Review Conscious 108 - Johannesburg

Alena Osina
Wholesome, nutritious, mouthwatering, fresh and totally vegan food with enormous portions. Great variety of meals. An urban ambience and relaxing environment. Very friendly and accommodating staff. They do take their commitment to the environment seriously and use steel straws that help reduce plastic. “Feel Good Bowl” and “Red Lentil Stew” and “Seriously Good Salad” were excellent! Amazing smoothies. I will definitely be back.

What an amazing, flavourful, vegetarian experience! Will definitely be back! Kids were busy with the board games that were lying around! Win- win all round! Great change from vegetarian Indian cuisine that is the only other flavourful option.

The fully vegan menu is delicious! I've had four dishes including a bowl, a burger and a stew. Also...I'm not vegan. The food is just that good! The portions are sizeable;you'll be full. I've lso had their red velvet cake;yummy!

Very nice and friendly crowd. Relaxing environment. Great variety of meals. Very helpful staff, they can also custom their dishes for you and your preferences. Simple but tasty! With portions on the big side.

The place is small, the staff is ok. Makes for a great lunch spot. The food was quite good. I enjoyed everything. I will definitely be back.

Yummy food and the best milkshakes. Nice to sit down and not worry about how your food was cooked.

A very relaxed and open atmosphere with the best vegan food imaginable. You could bring all your friends and family here, vegan or not. There is something for everyone, from burgers and pizzas to health bowls and salads. For desert you can try their delicious cakes, milkshakes (best I ever had, including non-vegan ones) and all kinds of other treats including my personal favourite, their divine tiramisu. They also sell kefir, kombucha, vegan yoghurt, vegan biltong and other vegan products. If you are vegan and don't want to take your friends to a place that is too "in your face" vegan and show them foods that would not be too strange for them, this is the place. Parking is a bit of a mission, but it is totally worth it.

If you are Vegan, vegetarian, or just conscious about the food you put in your body, you will love it here. They have a large menu and everything I've had there so far has been flavourful, tasty and filling 👍
Nicola Kritzinger
Delicious fresh food and awesome vegan desserts. Large menu and everything I've tried is really yummy. The service is friendly and food is prepared quickly. Nice atmosphere, space to sit inside and outside. They don't have a great wine selection so if you want something decent take your own.

Vegan food so good, even then carnivores can't wait for more. Don't let the simple street-side setup fool you: the dishes are intricately flavoured and absolutely delicious. Our group had pizza and burgers; all delicious, and with a choice of patty types. The no-milk shakes were rich and thick, and the chocolate cake moist and super-chocolatey.

What an amazing place ! I'm feeling so inspired Absolutely loved every bite.🔥 & just proves how deeeelicious and nutritious veganism can be ! First on my list of places to eat from now on 😍 Those Bhudda Bowls are out of this world ! Can't wait to conquer this menu!!!
Graham Schultz
Great venue and vibe. Good menu but we were not informed of the pizza or alcohol menu inside. Certain items over priced for portion size (karmic bowl). We weren't told when we booked of a private screening in the indoor section of the restaurant so had to sit outside.
Lynette Naiker
Amazing food and excellent service , I love the new menu , such variety . Love taking guests there . Though I am not vegetarian or vegan the food never disappoints

Had the Conscious 108 Burger. It was, by far, the most delicious thing I have eaten in my whole vegan life. And the chocolate cake... absolute perfection. Yum
Alicia Steyn
Very cozy place, food was great and the lady who helped us last night with the long braids was a treat👌🔥
Kelly Pearce
Best pizza ever!! Your food is so tasty and delicious and healthy...who knew vegetarian food was this delicious. We will be back soon.
Renee Godinho
The Karmic Bowl was divine!! Loved the chilled vibe. Would definitely recommend it for all! Its great choice for vegans as you can chose anything on the menu knowing the theres no dairy or animal products!

Thulisa invited my fiancé and I back for dinner on the house after our little misadventure the first time. Really impressed with the customer service, out waitress Bianca was great! Even though we couldn’t get through it all the food was fantastic, will definitely be back!
Paula Plit
Yum yum yum 😋 so happy to have discovered this little gem ...see you soon

Excellent vegan food. Their Buddha Bowls are delicious. I'm going to try their burgers over the weekend.
Carmen Roberts
Great atmosphere, yummy food and friendly staff!! Will definitely dine there again*

The Karmic Bowl and choc peanutbuteer milshake is fire!!! thanks for the amazing food and beautiful restaurant!

As a newly turned Vegan. This place has really given me hope for eating healthy, sustainably and deliciously!

Edit: This was handled so well and so quickly I'm very happy with the outcome <3 thank you We went here last night for my birthday. I was so excited to be able to order anything from the menu! We get there and we're seated, our drink order was taken and we waited 15min to receive it, it wasn't particularly busy. We then asked if we could order (when the waiter finally came back) and he said he was just going to get a pad and paper... He came back to get our order 30min later... Then we waited and waited and waited for the food, another table came and sat and got their starter AND main while we waited... I really wanted to give my non vegan friends and family a good experience, this was NOT it

Absolutely loved every bite of food! We started off with chocolate milkshakes, something I've missed like crazy. Had a selection of starters- ALL delicious. Fave was the beer battered tofu! Mains were shepards pie (so comforting and homely), the veggie burger and a seitan and caramalised onion mash. Had to have dessert as a takeaway because we were so full. New favourite place.
Candice
So disappointed to change this from a five to a one, this is the tecond time I’ve ubered all the way here and it’s closed when it says it’s open. So disappointing.

The food is amazing, friendly service. I wouldn’t really recommend the pizza but the So Yum Bowl is unbelievably delicious and huge portions. I am dying to try their desserts and their new Gourmet Milkshakes 😍 my non-vegan friends love it too so that’s a bonus. I would recommend a different kitchen set up and nicer toilet situation though.
FatCake101
Amazing experience!! In the beginning, I was slightly confused as the waiter never came to serve us, shortly after he came. The food came very quickly which I was not expecting due to what happened in the beginning! I really enjoyed the food !! I had the peanut butter ginger wrap! And that sauce is amazing wow! The balance in peanut butter and ginger was done very well. The portions are huge and filling too! It also felt very homely , will definitely be back!
Zailimbada
Honestly really delicious food and good service too. I really love their chocolate milkshake and hot chocolate, as well as their veggie burgers (all are super yum!). Love bringing friends who are wary of vegan food to this place to change their minds. Not a vegan myself, but love the food anyway. Keep up the great work! xoxo

Conscious 108 is a regular favourite of ours. Food is consistently good. We love the rainbow rolls, the English scramble breakfast and dukkah dippers. Service is a bit on the slow side and needs to be improved, but food makes it worth it.
Izelle De Jager
I always enjoy Conscious 108. Service is friendly and informative. The ambiance is chilled and I like the look and feel of the place. The food is good and the cakes are out of this world!

I was really excited to try this place - I love that more and more vegan and vegetarian places are popping up all over! It was a perfect day today so we headed over for lunch and sat on the veranda.

I ordered the BCLT wrap. Our friendly waitress told us when we ordered that the kitchen was running 10 minutes behind which we were totally cool with initially but after waiting for over an hour for our wraps, our food had still not arrived with no explanation which was upsetting.

The tofu in the wrap had a lovely texture but that is all I can say about it. There was way too much mayonaise and overall, it was very bland. The side salad was like something I shove together on a monday night when I just don't have much time. I was very dissappointed and the food is not cheap at around 80 bucks for a wrap.

To be fair though, we were offered free drinks to make up for the long wait. The almond banana smoothie was really good but I don't think we will be back.

Conscious is a little vegan cafe in Greenside. The conscious burger is very good but I found the BLCT wrap and the Yum Bowl average. The service is quite slow.
Lucy Wu
From my experience, vegan restaurants tend to take very long to serve food but Conscious really surprised me! Our starter was served under 10 minutes and our mains followed closely. The food was divine, came in decent portions and looked very appetising too, something that not many vegan restaurants tend to uphold. Definitely try end your meal off with their chocolate cake and a pot of conscious speciality tea!
Anny B
This is the kinda place you take your carnivore friends if you want them to rip vegans apart for eating bland food. The butter bean curry bunny was so bland and tasteless that not even salt, chili or pepper could help it. It was 80% brown bread and the bleak, flavorless filling wasn’t even enough to wet the bread. The seasonal fruit smoothie bowl was given to me after I explicitly asked for a fruit salad (which was not on the menu, but was said to me that they can easily make one). The smoothie bowl was room temperature on the one side, and warm on the other side, as if the bowl was left near a warm surface. I generally don’t mind paying for good food (or even mediocre food for that matter) but this meal was just unsatisfying and bad. It pained me to pay for this meal. Even though the food was horrid, the waiter that helped us was very sweet and tried his best to make our visit worth while.
Georgia Hartmann
Wow wow wow! The Conscious 108 Burger is possibly the most delicious thing I have eaten in my whole vegan life. Ordered lunch on UberEats and what fantastic service. Absolutely blown away by that burger 🍔😍 Yum! And the chocolate cake was perfection.
Kirsten Siebert
I popped in for a quick bite with my mom and we both decided to have the waffles. Firstly it took very long to get our food and when it did arrive it was very disappointing. The waffles were thin and flavorless and we had only a few pieces of banana and strawberries on top of a mound of cream. There was no chocolate syrup and when I asked I was told they no longer serve it like that. I then asked for honey as I could see the waffles were dry and chewy but they didn’t have honey. It was probably just a bad choice but I won’t be rushing back for that experience:

Very nice spot to sit and work and enjoy a refreshing drink. The fresh juice is very refreshing. Their food looks really good and tasteful.

Greenside is absolutely a gem with nice little restaurants to visit.
Reinhard Dembskey
I am a carnivore or so this was a pleasant experience. Quite a good variety of food, the tofu starter was excellent and I had difficulty finishing my bowl and it was delicious. My wife had the pizza which was also very tasty. Prices are fair. Coffee was great as well.
I think only waiter for a busy friday night is not enough but he did well enough.
Jacqueline Sampson
Such a delicious little spot. Really cute decor and a very extensive menu for vegans. We visited for breakfast and tried the conscious fry up and the French toast. So delicious. I really can’t wait to visit for lunch!
Adrian Ziller
We were very much looking forward to going to conscious 108 as it's one of the few vegan restaurants in Joey's. We left with a distinct feeling of... Eeeeagh?

The service is friendly but slow. The decor is best described as "sterile hippie".

They recommended a couple of Buddha bowls, so we took them up on that and had a potato croquette starter. The starter was decent but uninspired, the Buddha bowls were very much a hit and miss:

The first was a bland mix of mashed potato, spinach, and seitan. The spinach was delicious. The potato tasted like a Dostoyevsky novel. The seitan was plainly awful: hard, bland, and flowery.

The second was rather delicious. The roast veg was sublime. The noodles were delicious. It was a taste adventure.

We opted for one of their vegan ice creams for dessert. (They did not have stock of the vanilla so we shared a chocolate). It's great.

We had some major order envy when we saw the burgers and pizza brought to the table next to ours. It looked amazing.

All in all... It's worth a visit. But choose wisely young padiwan!
Nicholas Ryan Gertenbach
Um that's a big NO on conscious. Went with my mother who is vegan. I understand that's a reason to be eating here but I don't understand why they can't do the simple stuff right. The service was terrible, we ordered off the menu but they didn't have in stock and the potato I ordered was terrible. I won't be back
Michelle Du Plessis
I love this place!! This is my second time eating here and I will keep coming back. Really enjoy the menu- so much to choose from! The service can be a bit slow however the food and the vibe of the place is worth it to me. My mom and I shared the beer battered tofu (highly recommend !!!) as well as the So Yum Buddha bowl. The kombucha, fresh juices and the milkshakes are worth a mention and I could easily have all 3 during my meal hahaha.
Stefan Van Wyk
Great selection of vegan food, which was also delicious and well priced! Friendly and good service accompanied by a nice relaxing atomsphere with nice rustic decor. A must for vegans and veggie lovers!
Liswa
I absolutely love this place and have dined here quite a few times. Whether you're looking to have something fresh and light or dig into a super comforting meal - Conscious 108 has got you covered!
My meat-eater friends (almost converted one of them) gush over the burgers and wraps; while my favorite order is a Buddha bowl.

Intimate and homely setup. Friendly service. Be prepared to wait a tad for your meal, however.
Michael Williams
The service and food preparation were extremely slow. The waitron was inattentive.

The menu has something for everyone, but the food is bland. I had the butter bean bunny chow. It lacked flavour, spice and heat.

Man, I really wanted to be blown away by this restaurant I've heard so much about, but it didn't quite hit the mark. The menu is vast, which at first seems exciting, and then overwhelming. I chose the So Yum Bowl, which was so close to being delicious, but lacked seasoning and didn't have enough sauce. My companion had a red bean wrap, which sadly wasn't much more than that. We also had the dukkah dippers to start, and I felt underwhelmed by those too; they were just pretty un-special.

The service wasn't super, if I'm honest. It was a little inattentive and the waiters didn't seem very proud of what they were serving. The atmosphere was nice though.

I'd go back to try more dishes, and I really hope some of them impress me a little more than the ones I tried this evening. Needless to say, I have deep respect for the fact that it's an all vegan restaurant!

Great place, great location; there's a case to be made about safe spaces for people who want to eat healthy even when they're out. I have issues with Conscious still serving (and including) products with refined sugar on their menu, why? why? with so many healthy alternatives and a low barrier of entry you'd think they'd just pull the plug and cut out refined sugar from their menu...I personally don't separate conscious eating and healthy eating, having freshly squeezed juice along side Coke is an insult to their brand and frankly to us (passionate advocates of the restaurant)...anyways I hope they'll consider making this change, meanwhile to anyone else: not everything you order from their menu is healthy!
Jess Berger
I was so impressed with this restaurant!! I hadn't been back in a while because I found the portions were too small for the prices but I recently visited again and it was amazing!!! I had the waffles with fresh fruit and my boyfriend had the conscious breakfast which was so huge and delicious!! Well done on making the change! 👌🏻

I just ate like a pig, without one (or any other sentient creature) having to be offed for me to do so. It feels good to have food in my gut without blood on my hands for a change. The portions are generous and the food has loads of flavour for chow that has no meat or cheese or egg in it. The side of sweet potato chips I had were scrumpsh and the carrot cake and vegan chocolate ice cream after served as a very satisfying happy ending (almost as satisfying as the ones that punctuate a naughty massage, but not quite.) It was so yum and well-priced I may even consider going plant-based full time again. Lots of people think that vegan food makes you gassy, but I think that's just a whole bunch of hot hair. 😝😋

Relaxed atmosphere. Love the decor very modern awesome food. A little expensive. However it's a great place to go for a breakfast date with friends

I love this little restaurant although it is quite small yet it is cosy. It is the prefect place for all vegans/vegetarians and meat eaters! (They are a strictly vegan restuarant). They have a wide variety of delicious bhudda bowels to choose from. This is perfect for anybody on a healthy diet too. The portions are generous and it is a great idea to share meals so as to taste most of their food.
They have scrumptious desserts that are both egg and dairy free which I love!
The taste of their dairy free milkshakes was not comprimised due to the alternative milk options used and this is perfect for any lactose intolerant people.
I tried their chimichanga which was delicious and their chickpea bunny chow which was average due to the fact that I am not a fan of chickpeas.
I highly recommend their rainbow roll too.
I am not a vegetarian yet did not feel that I was missing out on anything. Great experience although staff were quite busy yet they are very friendly.

Great food and great atmosphere. I had a the chick pea bunny chow and my friend had the ginger peanut tofu wrap. Both dishes were delicious, well presented and wholesome! Its awesome having a restaurant that serves such great plant based meals in Jhb. I would definitely recommend this establishment to people who follow a plant based diet or people looking to just try something different. wonderful staff as well. I'm sure going to be visiting regularly!
Heidi Mitchell
Visited this quaint little restaurant for lunch and was blown away by their amazing vegan menu and even more excited when I tasted their delicious feel good Buddha bowl. The portion was perfect and the taste absolutely delicious! My friend enjoyed their Conscious 108 burger made from beetroot, mushroom and chickpeas. Their fresh juices are made there and then and were amazing. The almond milk cappuccino was the perfect end to a fantastic meal. Will definitely be back to try the other options on their menu!
Sherwin Khojane
Besides my girlfriend accidentally spilling wine all over the beautiful wood tables lol #embarrassing i absolutely love this place, the food is amazing and prepared with love with many great fully vegan options on the menu, the staff is really friendly and the spot has a great ambience, if you're vegan and haven't been here yet; step out the forest!
Kholiswa Mqina
Decided to try this with a couple friends as we were doing the Daniel Fast. Thoroughly enjoyed our food! Because I'm not actually vegan, I was very sceptic & worried that I wouldn't enjoy the food - but boy did they prove me wrong! I had the butter bean curry which comes with brown rice - it was absolutely amazing & can see myself coming here to eat it on any normal day. My friends had the chickpea bunny chow and the 'conscious cheese beef burger'. The overall setup of the restaurant is lovely - service is very good. Our waiter was very helpful in helping us choose our meals & was also very attentive. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a healthy, vegan meal!
Faith Abrahams
We had an absolutely divine anniversary dinner here. From start to finish! Rainbow Rolls for starters and So Yum Bowl for mains, utterly satisfied!
Gerlind
Enjoyable lunch treat- great menu for Vegans and non vegans. The Rainbow roll was colorful and delicious, the 'really good salad' lived up to its name. The Veggie Burger was tasty and satisfying and the sweet potato crisps were tasty but the skins were not well-scrubbed and a bit gritty. Desserts were yummy!
Bean
First visit on our continuing quest to be more vegetarian but more so conscious of what we consume and put into our bodies...

Unassuming spot, great for scenery if sitting on the deck, really fresh, many options to try, only able to sample the burrito bowl and the blossom bowl... both really good and filling.

Not cheap but sourced produce isn't.

Will be back asap !

The cake was so nice we had to order a pizza just to make sure the 5 was justified. The score says the rest. Bookmarked under...top 5 places to go eat.
Feb 20 lunch: Previous night was a bit heavy on liqour. So, tried to find out healthy places for lunch. Finally, decided on this place. This place is opp Woolworths. The place is open and airy. The juices are freshly prepared. Today's special is different varities of apple/pear. We had the one with cucumber and once with beetroot. Both were really nice and refreshing. The crispy tofu with ginger peanut sauce wrap but very good. The wrap comes with salad or potato or sweet potato fries. My recommendation - go for the salad. It's just too good or as they say seriously good. They have a seriously good salad. So, the one with the wrap is a version of the same. Just sprinkle some salt and pepper and eat. The cashews and sunflower seeds give it a super taste. Coming to the wrap, the crispy tofu, carrots, red pepper and onions tasted fresh - very important for a place that claims to serve healthy food. However, one suggestion is to give the wrap with another sauce - maybe hotter/ spicier as not everyone may like peanut sauce. Also, had the Tofu mushroom stroganoff. Since, this was for my daughter as well, asked them to not put wine. Otherwise, this is a whole wheat pasta in white sauce. Even this was really good. The ingredients were fresh and healthy. I am going back for sure.

Absolutely love Conscious 108. All the food that I've had here has been really delicious! The owner and staff are lovely people. I love supporting them!
Laura Brewer
We didn't get a chance to eat a meal here but we did have some fresh juices and cake. We had a slice of chocolate and carrot cake and had to hold ourselves back from being over-indulgent and ordering more. Such a stunning place with a great owner who was happy to chat and teach us more about a plant-based lifestyle. We will be back soon.
Lauren Michelle Strydom
Although I am by no means vegan, we took some vegan family from the U.K. here and it was lovely. I had the burrito bowl and tasted a few the other orders and it was all delish. The highlight was the chocolate peanut butter cupcakes for sure! Would definitely visit again with vegan/veggie friends 😊👍🏻
Kris H
This is a simple little restaurant which usually has wholesome food. We've been here a couple of times, and although the food is good, the service is lacking. The staff could definitely be more helpful, and did a smile ever kill anybody? The service is slow and I am just not sure if our deep fried tofu and lentil bowl were really worth the one hour wait...
Lisa Pi
Minimal, simple, clean - three words to describe the food, and the decor.
Although not 100% vegan, there are plenty of options for everyone. I had a pizza- and it was exceedingly tasty. Will there go there again? For sure!

Jan 2018 - update to my review above, we returned there on Sunday, and wowzers, all the food was super tasty.
I had the quinoa croquettes. And these I can highly recommend, packed with flavour and creaminess. I also had a bowl of sweet potato chips and Soya dippers coveted I'm Dukkha, with a nice dipping g sauce. The rest at the table had the rainbow rolls, spicy red bean burrito bowl, and bean burger - all very tasty!
Lidija Damjanović
The menu is well-priced, extensive in quality and quantity. The peanut butter cake is to die for! And the hot chocolate is scrumptious. Not only is the food decent, the ambiance is pleasant and comfortable. Definitely recommend.

I landed up at Conscious by pure accident yesterday. I was looking for a restaurant that would serve something hearty and healthy and because it looked so attractive from outside, I stepped right in. When looking at the menu I couldn't find anything meaty or fishy until the waitress told me that this is in fact a vegan restaurant. I was nervous at first but decided to go with the flow and try the not so chicken may wrap and salad. DELICIOUS! I was so impressed by the taste of the food, the presentation, atmosphere and service. I am definitely coming back here soon!
Beth Anne Mendelowitz
It's so refreshing to visit an establishment where I can eat everything on the menu. There is a lovely atmosphere created here and to top it all off they even have board games! I had the chocolate milkshake and 'cheese'burger, both mouthwatering and flavourful. To end off I had a slice of their carrot cake which was delicious yet not too sweet. Everything on the menu looks fantastic. Great location too.
Monique Theron-Whiting
Loooooove this place,we drove 40km just to try this place out, been looking for a vegan place since we've relocated here. Atmosphere and staff 5/5. Food is good 3.5/5 . Loved that I could order anything off the menu. Dessert was so welcoming.
Lisa Van Wyk
I think I may have just been converted into a vegan? I just had the most amazing breakfast and it was so tasty. Honestly loved it all, the banana, almond and cocoa smoothie was probably the best smoothie I have ever had. I would solely go back just for that smoothie! My sister in law had the mushroom pizza and I swear you would never have known it was vegan. I had the "French-ishy" french toast (obviously omitted the eggs) and my word it was so delicious. I will definitely be back!!
Hannah
My absolute favourite place! Have had many items off the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Large and delicious variety of food, friendly people and even has such a creative and trendy look. It's vegan, but have taken friends (and my father!) who are not even vegetarian and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Keep up the awesomeness Conscious 108 :)

PS the only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the service is a bit slow and we usually have to wave around to get our waiter's attention! But that can be fixed. Otherwise, it is pretty close to a 5 star rating, in my opinion
Mitesh Popat
Very simple and welcoming ambience, creative vegan dishes, friendly staff and very "Conscious vibe". Food was fresh and tasty, healthy and well presented
Brooklyn J. Pakathi
The atmosphere and look and feel was quite nice but the food offering although vast was a but on the average side. The waitresses also need a crash course on dining etiquette as they are in your space and face and crossing over the table etc. The cake was AMAZING though.
Francesca Favero
I had heard great things about this restaurant so I had very high expectations. I ordered the Chickpea bunny chow and it was nice, but a little bit disappointing. I personally preferred the eggplant and potato curry that came on one of the rolls, and would have enjoyed it better if it was all with that curry instead. I had a taste of my friend's pineapple mojito green smoothie, and it was quite bad. It was incredibly sour from the lemon juice and overpowered the other flavours that we would have hoped to be more prominent (like the mint). My one friend ordered the seriously good salad - he said it was good, but did not give very enthusiastic feedback. My other friend ordered the veggie dog which was alright , but disappointing that it looked like a Fry's frozen hot dog that you could have easily made yourself.
Lexi Monzeglio
I am a super loyal regular here. I absolutely LOVE Conscious108. I am not 100% vegan, but in terms of finding good clean food I still struggle - but the dishes at Conscious108 are really amazing. I recommend the Feel Good Bowl (my usual) but also the Almost Perfect Veggie Burger and the Shepherds Pie are also fantastic.

Ever since Darsh took over (the change in management happened in February 2016 I think), the improvement is definitely apparent - so if you had a bad experience before then, I suggest giving it a second chance!
Ricardo Jorge Fernandes Marques
This is one of my favourite restaurants. The atmosphere is great, the people are friendly and the food is delicious. I definitely recommend that everyone go and grab something delicious to eat and drink!
Smelly Celly
I loved this place when I went! I had the lentil cottage pie and it was so delicious, fresh and healthy. All the items on the menu looked great and I can't wait to go back and try more! The peanut butter chocolate cake is to die for!!!
Gerrie.hadders
Great healthy meal and experience. Had healthy wrap. Carrot Cake dessert! Make the time and enjoy this cosy great place!
Bienie
Love this healthy food concept restaurant! Had the breakfast scramble wrap made of tofu and vegetarian sausages (with mushrooms, onions etc) and it was tasty and looked exactly like scrambled eggs. (although a tad of chilli/some more seasoning would have made the dish stand out more). Friends had the Blossom bowl and Feel Good bowl which were heaped with healthy goodness. Friendly service!
Cherise Vogt
This is a cute vegan restaurant with nice comfort food. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. A new owner took over this year and I feel like not all the changes are good as corners are being cut. The recipes are not the same anymore and I was disappointed recently when I got a dish very differently to what I has grown accustomed. I hope these are just growing pains as it would be a pity to lose this great restaurant.
Madherbz
Really tasty and healthy menu. Fresh new ownership so I'm sure a couple of things will change over the next while. Serve good juices and the service is very friendly and helpful. Slightly hidden on Greenway Ave so keep a keen look out. Perfect for healthy eaters who hate menus that go on forever.
Arthur Thorne
As a meat eater I was pleasantly surprised - the food was great! Had a "cheese burger" and divine sweet potato chips. Atmosphere was good and staff friendly. For all those skeptic meat eaters out there... Give Conscious 108 a try, you will not be disappointed
El Broide
Looking to enjoy some vegan food? This is the place! Their menu is on point and the service is better than any other restaurant I have been too. I love the spot and I can't wait to go back every time.
Shlosh
Superb dinner. As a meat lover, i highly recommend the veggie burger. Tasty starters too and a wonderully made cappuccino. The oreo cake was also delicious. Looking forward to returning to try some more menu options. Highly recommended to all!
Genya Beulah Gluckman
Incredible vegan food that is not only up to the highest standard but also impeccably priced with great portions. My non-vegan family LOVED it. I highly recommend the 'cheese' burger and the oreo-vanilla cake.
Gary Greenberg
Visited here for the first time and had high hopes with the food and service. The latter was unfortunately quite disappointing to say the least. When trying to order a meal my third option was only available which was a Shepard's pie. The food was a very generous portion (enough for two) which was under spiced but not bad. I must add that I also tasted the wrap which had very little BBQ sauce on the tofu however the sweet potato is probably the best I have had in Jo'burg! The food is priced well and the starters are really well prepared and tasty. I will most definitely pop in again in the near future for a hearty vegi meal.
Kelly
The food is nice, flavoursome and fresh.
Had a lovely dinner!
The salads are amazing and their dressing is delicious.

.

So I'm not actually too sure what I was expecting from raw food, but I was pretty disappointed. We were the only people in the restaurant when we got there, but for some reason waited aaaages for drinks and food to arrive! My first meal choice wasn't available - bummer nr 1. We then waited nearly 50 minutes for our food - how long can it take to chop up veggies and chuck it in a bowl prettily and stuff some veggies in a wrap?! My salad was literally shredded beetroot, some carrots, and some other bits. I felt it is rather expensive for what i got, considering they don't have overheads on gas or much electricity as the food is raw? Maybe I'm not appreciating what Conscious 108 is truly about, but I won't be back in a hurry.

If I could give this place 0 rating I would. The only mentionable item is great menu, but completely worthless if not delivered on.

We walked in, seated ourselves and waited for around 30 minutes before eventually asking if we could get service. The waiter apologized and said that she didn't not know that the table we were sitting on was hers.

We ordered immediately (as we had lots of time to contemplate options) and proceeded to wait another hour before asking how long the food would still take. We were told that they had not yet started on our order.

We waited and waited and asked again where we were told just 7 more minutes. After 30 minutes and asking one more time we eventually asked for the bill.

We waited for nearly 2 hours and ended up leaving without being served any food. Utterly disappointed, will never return again and advise others as well.

I don't get the hype... Service is rather slow... Things seem simple enough to make at home I need a bit more from a eat out ... Much short of an orgasm on a plate

As a vegetarian, I was really excited to try the food here. The menu offers so much variety in terms of flavours and meal types. What let them down for me was the slow service and how lethargic our waiter was. We waited about 30 minutes for our food.

I had the 'cheese burger' and crunchy tofu & peanut sauce wrap to share. I really did enjoy the burger which didn't leave me feeling like I over ate. The wrap was tasty but there too much lettuce in it, and if the sauce wasn't as good as it was, I would have hated it. My friend also ordered the chimichanga which she liked. The sweet potato fries and side salads are yum.

Overall the portion sizes were generous but the food is not heavy. There is also a value for money element to eating here. Will definitely head back to try more things and hopefully the service would have improved.

Conscious 108 is probably one of the coolest vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Gauteng. Boasting with a fully vegan menu, the restaurant is popular among vegans and carnivores alike! M first experience was when ordering food for my skeptic co-workers in order to Celebrate World Vegan month. We had a combo of Burgers, Salads, Shakes and Bowls. Needless to say, the skeptics were surprised. I later tricked my meat loving father and brother into having dinner at Conscious 108. They weren't too impressed when they realised there's no meat on the menu, but they were won over by the frothy un-milkshakes, freshly squeezed juice, Vegan Chicken Burgers and Snap Bars. Another plus point is the board-games you can keep yourself busy with while waiting for your order. The staff is also exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Next step is to trick my boyfriend into a vegan night out!

As a non vegan my family and I enjoyed a lovely experience at Conscious 108.

I found the food interesting yet really enjoyable. The vibe was great with the live music.

Definitely a great restaurant for dedicated vegans.

I'm not a vegetarian by a long shot. But I am trying to eat a little more healthy, so I thought I'd give Conscious 108 a shot. I had the Chimichanga and swapped the wrap out for quinoa, and Kate had a Blossom Bowl. Both meals were tasty and refreshing, and the Blossom Bowl was massive, with enough to take home later as a snack. The service was great and we had a super experience.

Lovely place with amazing service and tasty treats . Enjoyed my 'cheese beef burger ' with my potatoes fries . Everything tasted like it was made with such love ! Will definitely go back ! 👍🏽

We were really looking forward to trying something different but unfortunately the service was so slow that by the time the food came we had almost all lost our appetites. The pineapple mojito was delicious and the food wasn't bad either but the experience was spoiled by the almost hour long wait.
Trish
Although the food was really good, the service was shocking even though it was quiet. Took half an hour to just get drinks. Starters never arrived. They then served mains only then telling us the kitchen staff missed the order. If you're willing to chance bad service, try the chocolate milkshake and the almost perfect veggie burger.

Honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Non vegetarians/vegans will even love this place! Sadly their blender wasn't working so I couldn't try their famous banana almond smoothie. Both my friend and I had the "cheese beef" burger. It was phenomenal in each and every way. I'm usually a bit cautious with vegan cheese, but their "cheese" sauce was out of this world. It also came with a delicious side salad! We ended off with their vegan chocolate peanut butter cake, which was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive! Overall perfect!

This is a vegan restaurant with healthy cafe style food like wraps and burgers (made with beans, soya and tofu). I had the best banana and almond smoothie (made with soy milk) here. Love the decor and the service is friendly and fast. We chose the beans bunny chow mains which was okay, the beans were prepared in a tomatoey chutney but was a bit disappointed that it was served on what looked like a store bought hamburger rolls. I think it would be better if they made their own bread, shaped in a mini loaf.. will give them another visit to try something else from the menu and have another smoothie!

Waited to be served for 10 mins and when I didn't even get a menu when an employee was sitting outside chatting I decided not to waste my time here

Great vegan food! A relaxed lunch date as the perfect setting or some good take home food. There is something for everyone on this menu. The food is lovely and tasty and of very good quality. The prices are great as you can eat for under R100! The service is a bit slow in taking your order and bringing the bill however the food was prepared promptly. Will definalty be a regular here!

Awesome vegan food - was pleasantly surprised at the delicious food that was presented! Awesome place to relax and enjoy some great vegan food

I was NOT expecting a vegan restaurant to blow my mind and this place proved me completely wrong. I love meat. I'm a ribs and steak kind of girl. But I literally didn't think about meat or dairy (not even cheese!) Once tonight. From start to finish it was a flawless dining experience. Our waitress was so lovely and knowledgeable and the owner stopped by for a nice chat. The decor and ambiance is really cozy but still modern and bright. Definitely recommend this place for anything from a brunch to a romantic dinner date!
The food was out of this world and so were the smoothies. My Very Berry smoothie was fresh and tasty and my friend's almond banana smoothie honestly tasted like the best banana milkshake I've had.
I had the Feel Good Bowl and it was packed with flavour! The chickpeas were especially tasty. My friend's spicy lentil cottage pie was creamy and also so delicious- perfect cold weather comfort food.
We shared the peanut butter chocolate cake for dessert and basically fought over the peanut butter frosting because it was so yummy.
Can't wait to come back and try everything on the menu!
Mandy
Brilliant 2 times over! What a fabulous vegan spot. Service was honest and good, Mishas personal attention was unexpected and comforting. Food was fabulous- even for my meat eating husband.
What an awesome place. The food is great, the venue is amazing and food is to die for! You can never get bored with the various options on the menu (even though I end up ordering the burger every week, because it's amazing). Don't forget to try some cake before you leave!

:: Probably one of the best places to eat if you are vegan/vegetarian. Huge portions at reasonable prices. Innovative dishes and nothing like you've had before. Just a good place to go, but probably not so great if you love meat with your food.
TONIPOLONI
I had huge expectations of this vegetarian restaurant after reading reviews. But I was disappointed with the dish I ordered - crispy tofu wrap with ginger peanut sauce. The gluten free wrap was heavy and tough to cut through with a knife. Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish.

Whenever I crave cake it's from Conscious 108. Their peanut butter chocolate cake is life changing! Also try their cupcakes and rice crispy treat slices.

Love eating here and wish I didn't live so far otherwise I would 100% be a regular.

Things I've loved eating here: the lentil cottage pie was delicious, hearty and a huge portion, the sweet potato and corn empanadas changed my life (the soy cream knocked my socks off),LOVED the beer battered tofu and the Karmic Bowl with seitan was the most surprising win (never having had it before). Could not get enough of it. Loved the bunny chow and hope to go back to try pretty much everything else on the menu.

Definitely have a chocolate milkshake but don't try to have one with a starter and a main. Too much fooooood.

My rating is solely for the food and nothing else. Had a BLCT wrap which consisted of BBQ tofu, lettuce, tomato and a home made mayo along with a side salad. All of this was just so delicious I could have eaten it three times over!
And now moving on to the service - huge disappointment. It is the second time I have visited the restaurant on a Wednesday and both times have been told that half the menu is not available due to the fact that the restaurant closes on Tuesdays and all the ingredients weren't ready etc. I got to the restaurant at 12.30 in the afternoon. This allows ample time for preparation before customers start arriving for lunch, never mind had they arrived for breakie.
No manager in sight. The poor staff in the kitchen were trying to juggle handling the tables, dealing with the heaters and welcoming customers into the restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended to me by friends and fellow vegans and I loved it. We met some decidedly non-vegan people there and they also loved their food. I had the English Breakfast Scramble which was delicious and filling, and the Very Vanilla milkshake which was exquisite! Food was a little bit slow but made up for by the joy of being able to order anything on the menu. The people are lovely and friendly and we had a great time. My greatest regret is that the main meal was too much for me and I couldn't have dessert :) but I will definitely be back!

Huge portions of amazing food, awesome even for a non-veg!

I took my vegetarian mom to Conscious 108 because of the amazing reviews on Zomato. I was skeptical at first, but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least! They may not look like much on the photos, but everything was flavourful and well-balanced. The three of us each ordered a meal, but none of us could finish. We will probably have leftovers even if we shared two dishes. My mom was really upset that she couldn't clean the plates because she ALWAYS does (says a lot about the portion!).

We were there on a quiet Saturday night, besides us maybe two others came in for dessert takeaway. As the only table there, I got quite frustrated as the food took forever to arrive. I love the deco and the ambiance, it's warm, wooden and welcoming.

Bottomline: A heaven for vegetarians, but seriously try it out even if you're not!

Pros: delicious food, massive portion, very good price/quality ratio
Cons: slow, the staff was a little cold
Love this place. Often drop by just for the amazing chocolate and peanut butter cake. But all the food is always great and the staff friendly. Tried the new bowls for the first time. Never tasted anything like the tofu and mushroom stroganoff before. It was tasty. And I might have a new favourite cake... The vanilla, Strawberry and chocolate cake was delicious. I hope it becomes a regular on the menu.

I am not a Vegan. Far from it.

I have been to Concious 108 3 times, and every time I am impressed.

If I could take the chefs there home and have them cook for me 24/7 I would go Vegan and never look back.

The food is delicious, especially the Chocolate/Peanut Butter cake, which is everything (Treat yo self!)
The burgers and sweet potato fries will have you drooling like 18 yr old boy at a Victoria Secrets photo shoot as well.

I must say though the coffee is bad, I now only have black Americano's if I do have coffee there which is OK, so I can only assume the other coffees are bad because of the milk (Almond/Soy/Hemp whatever whatever Milk substitutes do not good coffee make IMHO - You Vegans are really missing out here)

However the owners are amazing and friendly and I always leave feeling happy.
Definately a place to try if you want to be a bit healthier

Being a Hindu, we often fast for one month and that include on consumption of meat. So having a purely vegan restaurant is great, as other 100% vegetarian restaurants are difficult to find.

We had the bunny chow and the wrap which was so refreshing and different. Never had I enjoyed tofu, however their peanut sauce made all the difference, it was devine.
I loved how modern the food had looked, it complemented the beautiful decor of the place. Not to mention the endless board games which kept us busy while waiting for our food.
I had then visited for coffee and cake, one would never think these products are 100% vegan.

A real #HiddenGem.
Absolutely amazing is the only way I can describe this cute little vegan restaurant, their food was insane! I had their feel good bowl which was absolutely delicious and even big enough for me to take home, my friend had their vegan cheese burger and have to say for the first time the bun didn't stick to the palate of your mouth the way most wheat free buns usually do! We indulged in their peanut butter rice crispy treats which just got better after each bite and their lemon sponge cake which was as moist as ever! Service was impeccable, the sweet owner came and checked up on us on numerous occasions and was super friendly. Who ever thought vegan food wasn't tasty obviously has not been here, will definitely be back without a doubt.

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but I absolutely love the food here! Fresh, healthy and delicious :) I have only had good experiences and the staff are also very friendly! The peanut butter vegan cake, sweet potato fries and veggie burgers are a must try!

Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! Even for my hubby who was is as far from vegan as one can get! Lovely, filling and tasty food in a little restaurant with a warm welcoming vibe! With food like this, we may convert all carnivores yet - taste speaks louder than words!

Look, I like meat. But their Almost Perfect Veggie Burger (soy free) will change your life! I love the hospitality and the calm atmosphere at Conscious 108. As far as dessert goes: always try whatever is on offer. Lovely place for a date or catch-up with friends.

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, but this place is fantastic. Delicious, fresh juices made to order and great vegan food! I had the Karmic Bowl and the Seriously Good Salad and really enjoyed both of them. For desert there's a selection of raw cakes and brownies which are great!
Jon Scholtz
A small but comfortable venue for the vegans out there. Not a vegan myself, but must say I thoroughly enjoyed the wrap I ate. Been around for a year as far as I understand and had not noticed it at the time. Glad I checked it out!
Sarah Connolly
We had Milkshakes : Delicious yet a tad small.
A vegetarian burger : Devine :)
A cheese and beef burger : tasted like real meat and super awesome :)
Served with amazingness chips :)
Service & atmosphere is 10/10 and a real incredible place. A meat eater, could be really into vegan food! Try the cupcakes, they are incredible :)

I love coming here with my friends for a quick lunch. I recommend ordering the "Deliciously good salad " - Green salad with tomatoes, avo , cucumber, onions , carrots, roasted cashew nuts , crispy BBQ tofu pieces and sunflower seeds. Probably one of the best salads I have eaten.

And the Chocolate and peanut butter cake is to die for. Definitely a must try.

This place is really a must. Even if you are not vegan.

Tried this pretty little place last night. Everything we tried was good except the beer battered tofu, but that could also be because I don't really like tofu (I keep trying it in the hope I will grow to like it). The lentil loaded potato skins were delicious, my friends had the conscious cheese burger, veggie burgers and the BLCT and all were very happy. I loved the red lentil stew. The lime cupcake was ok. The service was good, my friend ordered a sparkling water which turned out to be flat and it was gladly exchanged. Overall a lovely night with delicious food. Hope to be back soon.

The best Vegan restaurant I have ever eaten at! The food is extremely flavor filled! Loved it! Try the Shepard pie and blossom bowl! Yum yum!

This is a nice little vegan restaurant. The place has a nice vibe and layout. The owners are very friendly. They also make amazing vegan cake.
