Wow wow wow. I was super impressed by the menu. There is a bit of everything on the menu so whether you crave for pizza, pasta meat or seafood- they have them all. I shared the half chicken with a friend. It sounds like a lot but if a person is really hungry it is enough for one. The chicken was unlike any I experienced before. I ordered it hot- it was hot and tasty. As a nice add they have non alcoholic cocktails. I definitely will go again and have a taste of something...particularly their prawns. The service was good as well. The restaurant is slightly crowded but the service and taste of food trumps this.
If you looking for hearty delicious food, this is the place to visit. The portions are generous and the prices are in line with that. The starter platter for R99.95 is well worth it for your choice of 3 starters (excl prawns). The Portuguese chicken is spicy and saucy while th mushroom steak was so tender and delicious. The one downside is the waiting time for tables on Friday and Saturday nights. But they make up for it in the efficiency of the food arriving to you once you place your order
We have a weekly standard order from here for a full chicken, hot, well done, cut into 8 pieces; with chips, spinach & butternut , & 2 Portuguese rolls - Never ever disappoints.
Also love the ‘rump in the oven’. Prawns are also consistently good. I recommend sticking to these classics. Wasn’t too impressed by some of the more adventurous menu items.
Surprisingly, for a Thursday night, the restaurant was almost completely full.
The complementary bread was fresh and served with a peri-peri dip.
For starters we had chicken rissoles because the prawn ones were sold out, which was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, the chicken ones were delicious and crispy. My only other suggestion is that they should serve it with something other than a sweet-chilli sauce.
Main course was the 12 queen prawns. I decided to go with half lemon butter and half peri basting. The prawns were fresh and cooked to perfection.
Service was professional and fast even though they were extremely busy.
Loved the food at Calistos! Had the fillet steak and hubby had the fillet in the oven. Both dishes were perfectly cooked as we had requested. The flavoring was perfect. It is halal which is excellent for us looking for a good steak.
We’ve visited on more than one occasion and the high standard has been maintained which will ensure we keep visiting in the future.

If you're looking for good prawns, give them a try. The chicken is delicious with a spicy sauce. Sides are fresh. Service is good with managers being attentive. Give them a try.

I always have a great time when I'm eating out with my friends. This time we decided to try out a new restaurant which happened to be Calistos for that warm Saturday afternoon.
We were quite overwhelmed by the amount of restaurants around there, but got a warm welcome from the team at Calistos. It is a cozy restaurant, dimly lit which is quite relaxing overall. It is suitable for family and dating people but being more than two at a table there is quite nice.
We settled to share 2 pizzas amongst the four of us (our student budget didn't really allow much freedom cause we still have to get textbooks and that haha) we had the Calistos special(which I really enjoyed but listen if you don't like hot stuff don't do it, to me it wasn't tooo hot but some of my friends found it to be a bit much) we also had the Chicken Tikka which was a bit too lemony but with more bites and savouring I happened to really enjoy it. The pizza crust is real good
Before the Pizza we got some complimentary bread, which I love. I love free bread at restaurants (you can really tell that I'm a student) the two pizzas were enough amount us plus we'd had bread before.
Definitely one restaurant to frequent!
Being from Cape Town it was a treat to visit this Halaal Calisto's. It was buzzing for a Thursday evening. Full house. We received a friendly welcome from the manager on duty. The waitress was very knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations. The kiddies thoroughly enjoyed their prawns and chicken. My oven done fillet steak was hands down best ever, perfectly prepared. What appeared to be the owner popped around during our meal to greet and check up on us. He was considerate enough to greet us again as we left. Nice touch. Very warm and pleasant all round from both staff and management.
Firstly, this place is insanely busy on a Saturday evening. People would literally not stop pouring in.
Despite being busy the service was good and the food came quickly. We ordered some special which was a little bit of everything: meat, chicken and seafood.
The special came with a salad which was average and two signature mocktails- I opted for the mojito which to my surprise was blue when it arrived. I did not enjoy it, it was way too sweet.
First impressions foodwise, the presentation is unique but not amazing. The flavours are good. The chicken was by far my favourite, it literally was as soft as marshmallow! The steak was my second favourite but I felt the meat lacked colour and a sauce.
Overall it was a good meal. It is definitely not like the one we have in Cape Town.
Situated in what is presumably the Zone food court tucked away in the corner. What I thought would be a food court takeout joint turns out is actually a great sit down restaurant as well. The food is great and delicious. Service is top-notch too. Was a bit quiet midweek but have seen it packed over the weekends. Definitely a good addition to the Zone food scene.
We are regulars at Calisto's and usually opt for the family feast (because we move in hordes). I have no complaints about their food or service, always excellent. They really take care of their patrons preferences. Our waitrons are always helpful and smiling. The extra hot Portuguese chicken is unmatched and so is their butternut. I love the Mac and Cheese which i order off the kids menu. Everything I've eaten there has been 5 star quality. It's our first option for food at The Zone, regardless of the waiting list come Friday and Saturday night's.
So happy that they have a branch in rosebank. Its so much more convenient. The service and staff are truly amazing. Everyone is so friendly. We have eaten here a number of times. Their oven rump is literally the best. As well as their peri peri chicken. Great for families.
My first pick for spicy and really tasty chicken and prawns. I recommend going in the week as they are super busy on weekends and you'd have to wait a bit for a table. Chateaux Gateaux desserts are served here :)
I've been here before on a weekend and it gets extremely busy. Went for a weekday dinner and it was a lot quieter.
The menu is very diverse, there should be something for everyone. The food does take a while to come but as the saying goes, good food takes time. And You always have the house bread to nibble on.
Our waiter was able to tell us about the special for the day. I thought there would be one. She mentioned about five very very fast and it was hard to recall what she said when deciding what to order. It would be a good idea to have this written down somewhere. Unless it's only one special!
When our food did arrive, it looked and tasted really good. My mushroom steak was well done as requested. Easy to cut through and enjoy with the thick and creamy mushroom sauce. Others had rump in an oven and the half chicken and half prawns special. The chicken is absolutely Devine, better than nandos!
Atmosphere: extremely busy on the weekend. Expect to wait to be seated.
Food: best prawns, chicken and steak this side of Jhb. The food never disappoints.
Service: staff are friendly and efficient.
Disappointed that they don't take reservations on the weekend.
The food is good but the prises aren't
For example what they call 12 chicken wings is only 6 full chicken wings for over R70 and it has no sides it's just chicken! 😡
This restaurant was the best so far. We ordered a pepper steak and a Mozambican prawn curry. The steak had the perfect amount of pepper- not too spicy and not too bland but with a nice kick. The prawn curry was AMAZING. It was full of flavour and had a really unique taste to it. I would highly recommend this dish. I would love to visit again.
If you love portuguese flavours you have to stop by Calisto's.
Calisto's is definitely family friendly with lots of kids running around and it was very busy which I always take as a good sign. We were wait listed and in about 15 minutes we had a seat.
There is lots on the menu but we all three decided on the half LM piri-piri chicken which was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and the furthest thing from dry. I ordered my meal with half chips and half vegetables. The creamy spinach deserves a special mention as it was perfect.
We had very friendly and efficient waiters.
Definitely a fan of Calisto's and highly recommend it.
Went to Calistos with a party of 11 people on Sunday night being a very busy night we called an hour in advance for a table, when we got there we didn't wait long and our table was ready, the service was great, when we sat down they even had the decency to tell us that since they've been so busy they don't have complementary rolls(no other restaurants do that) the pizza was thin and crisp to perfection! The Beef prego roll was mouth watering and we ordered the full chicken and 24prawn combo which is a great deal.. Will definitely be back soon.
Very happy to see one of our favourite spots franchised, more of a fast food vibe and doesn't have the authentic Portugal atmosphere of the mother store in the South but the peri peri chicken is just as tasty

Was feeling for prawns, rice, cream spinach & butternut but as a take away. Was amazed at how each item was individually packed. All heated up in the microwave. Prawns where just perfect and prepared in lemon butter. Creamy spinach was creamy and well spiced, butternut was sweet, just as I like it!
Came to Calistos with one of the Rosebank regulars. Being a Thursday it wasn't very busy. I ordered the Chicken Prego for lunch. The rolls were very fresh, the prego fillet was well cooked and juicy. However the prego could have done with more prego sauce in it. For the chilli lovers have some of their in-house chilli sauce, but use with caution. The management are fantastic and kept checking in on us.
We had a team supper last night for about 25 people and the service was absolutely amazing. I have never been to a restaurant with more efficient service and friendly staff. Well done! All the meals were prepared fresh and the food was amazing as usual. We look forward to coming back:) This place is a must try!
I enjoyed the tapas style meal they prepared for us. The bread, chicken and beef sosaties were perfectly prepared and flavourful. I love me some fried haloumi cheese. The service was a little slack, but an enjoyable experience nevertheless.
Tried out this place hoping the quality food was as good as it's big brother in the South... And Yup, it definitely was! Great piri-piri prawns, best Half LM chicken and perfect Kingclip! Service was proper as well. I'll be back!!
I'm a huge fan of Calistos, so as soon as I heard they were opening in Rosebank I knew I had to try it out.
As per usual the LM Piri piri chicken was good. However, my brownie was not freshly prepared and was very hard which was very disappointing.
The service was average, but because they're new I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Calistos serves probably the best Portuguese grilled chicken I have tasted. The plate had a sizable portion of chicken that was well cooked and was drizzled in a hot spicy Portuguese killer sauce. Worth mentioning was the appetizer chilli mixture with bread. Absolutely delicious and not for the feint hearted if spicy food is not your thing.
Wonderful atmosphere. Very busy when I visited, so there was a wait to be seated. Food was served hot and was tasty.
OMG i Love this Restaurant. They always gives me favours by Secreat sauce of BBQ as thats my favorite and it brings my appetite 😋

Secondly, the manager is dressed so weirdly, I think if staff have uniform so should the manager, don't come dressed as a weirdo. No I don't care if it offends him, look like a manager, not a 16 year old that's rebelling.

The Rosebank Zone store is far more welcoming than Fordsburg or Atlas Road was, I still recall Fordsburg refused to install better lighting owing to their license agreements so I never went back, Atlas Road were not in tune with customer service.
Rosebank has redeemed the Callisto brand in my book. The seating is comfortable, good lighting, warm, tables are big enough for the massive platters they serve their delicious mix of fabulous food. Appetising roles & signature chutney/source on freshly baked roles with melting butter sets you off on a flavour journey. My starter was the crab curry, different to our Indian flavour but still okay, the crab legs should be cracked to allow the flavour to infuse but a definite try if you have time. Mussels, Halumi, crumbed calamari starters were on par. The beef pasta was mild, creamy & delicious. Our main comprised a steak trinchado & chicken livers starter again, a full chicken, plenty prawns, hake & 3 sides (legendary chips, butternut, spinach & more chips). The gassy wash down was chilled Coke in a 300ml glass bottle…of course.
No room for dessert after that feast. Our guy, Prince, was fabulous & service was on point. Prince was not on our heads but appeared magically when we did need, together with his colleagues to assist. The owner/ manager swung by at the right moment to check up and was not intrusive nor did he express that he’s the owner like some other places. Our waiter, Prince neatly packed the left-overs in a manner that I relived the taste & flavour the next day at work. Great teamwork guys. Overall, a great few hours in a great venue at a good price with good service. The platters are an absolute best bet.

The first sauce n bread roll is amazing. The sauce is so hot n spicy. Just loved it. N Callisto's chicken is an all time favorite. The crab curry n the peri peri chicken was also too good.
Really nice restaraunt however extremely crowded on weekends. Better to eat here during the week. The food is really good, especially the peri peri prawn and peri peri chicken pizza as well as their Portuguese chicken, love that the chicken is saucy and not dry. The rump in the oven is also really tasty and tender when ordered in medium to well, however you can choose your preference. I have ordered their chicken livers on one occasion, however it was sent back as it was under done. Overall. Really nice atmosphere, service is fairly good and the food is really tasty
Good Portuguese food, but they don't serve any alcohol, which is a bummer.

All of us here at Kwick Access Rentals are so impressed with Callistos at Rosebank , we had 18 People for a end of year function, we had a hiccup at the restaurant that we mae a reservation with and ended up at Callistos.
