Good, authentic Thai food. Unpretentious setup, but the food makes the trip worth it. Service slow but very friendly.
I went to Anong for the first time for a friend's birthday dinner and was so pleasantly surprised! Looks-wise, it's a very simple and modest place with very casual service but the authentic Thai food is why you should come here. I ordered the larb (beef) and a bottle of Singha, which took me right back to Chiang Mai. Although I haven't been to many Thai restaurants around Johannesburg (I always assume that the food will be some watered-down, Westernized version), Anong is about as authentic as you're going to get!
Also, the staff went above and beyond to add their own thoughtful touches to the birthday dinner (no special requests were made when booking), which made it that much more special.
Probably the best place to have great Thai food in Joburg. Pad Thai, Som Tum and Yum Woon Sen are always good, kids loved the Satay. There is also fresh tiger prawns grilled on coal fire, just brace yourself when you dip the juicy prawn into their original sauce... mouth on fire but will be back for more.
Very friendly and welcoming owners. Humble place but delicious food. Service is quick.
The most authentic Thai food I have had so far in Johannesburg.
Very highly recommended.
Been a while folks, but I’m glad to be back.
My good friend and I met two other friends for lunch at this restaurant last Sunday. It had a rustic look, reminiscent of many Thai restaurants in Thailand. But knowing that the owner of Anong is Thai herself I knew we would be in for a treat!
I decided to keep it simple and ordered the soup noodles. Which I assured you that when the waitress came to collect the bowl at the end of the meal they would have thought I licked it clean! Lol
My noodle’s broth was the clear kind and it was deceptively good. The bowl was loaded with minced pork and pork balls and also various veggies. It hit the spot well and good for me! The others at the table also ordered the pork pineapple rice, pad Thai and a deep fried whole fish. My friend ordered also a noodle soup but was the tom yum flavored. I snuck a try of the pineapple rice and it was really good too.
This is a really lovely restaurant as it also has a Thai massage adjoining to it and in the restaurant it had a whole fridge stocked full of Thai biased veggies.
I would definitely be back for a return visit and soon I hope!
This is a real Thai restaurant.
We love their mango with sticky rice.
Just like I had in Thailand. Food is great, owner is so friendly to greet to us and make sure we are happy with our food.
I was pleasantly surprised by this thai cuisine. Their Tom yum with coconut milk and prawns - super good quality. They also clean the prawns properly.
The pad Thai was very yummy.
The egg fried rice with prawns is incredible. It looked bland but it was super tasty.
Highly recommend
This must be one of the great hidden restaurants in Cyrildene. Setting wise, the place looks neat and as for the food, it couldn't have been more authentic Thai food. The best dish was the seafood fried rice. The prawns were fresh and I this tasted way better than most Chinese fried rice.
One of the best Thai restaurants in Johannesburg
Not ostentatious or pretentious but good is genuine Thai made by Thai's served by Thai's and owned by Thai's
Menu is authentic and not the westernized version we are used to
Treat yourself to great food at very reasonable prices.
Never tried wine here but the Singha beer is great
Service is a bit disjointed ( mains arrived before starters) but food was yummy
Great new find, we have made it our Sunday treat for 3 weeks in a row. The Panang curry and Tom Yum Ka soup are must tries!! The owners are friendly and food delicious.
