Value & Flavour. Best way to describe ‘2 Thai 4’. Great options, especially the duck options. The ambience is very authentic, personally I would prefer a slightly ‘tidier’ venue but this is just personal preference. Great food — definitely recommended.
Lovely place, great food and very accommodating staff! The sarter platter and whole fish in red curry and coconut are definitely worth a try!
It’s not 100% authentic thai so don’t get excited, it is Southafricanized Thai.
Nevertheless, it’s nice, the place is not very lively but comes on top of what you can find as Thai food in the area.
I’ve been visiting this restaurant for many years. Decor is very fitting and at times it feels like you could actually be in Thailand. Their Green Thai Curry never disappoints and is great value for money. Waiters are friendly and service is good.
I don't know why I waited so long to try this place!!!
Let me start off by commending the staff on their efficient and friendly service. Well done!!!
Now for the food... YUM!
We ordered the chicken green Thai curry.
It. Was. Delicious. In addition to that we ordered a vegetarian red Thai curry, which was also tasty!!!
Both were accompanied by steamed rice which was fragrant and perfectly cooked.
We also ordered the green papaya salad - which transported me straight back to Thailand.
Everything was mouthwatering and I couldn't get enough!
I will be back!!
❤️👌🏻 fondest memories of my meals at "2 thai 4" the food was delicious and authentic but I appreciated the silver "western" cutlery. The atmosphere is romantic..
Chicken satay and curries are too die for
We always have a good experience when visiting 2 Thai 4 based on the service and quality of food. It is a little pricey in comparison to the likes of Simply Asia and Thai Cafe however the portions are big and the menu extensive.
Due to being a big space that is relatively quiet it does sometimes lack ambience but it's a great place to go with a group.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Johannesburg. We go back again and again for the excellent food, relaxing ambience and good service. Okay, I have never been to Thailand so can't comment on authenticity, but everything I have eaten has been good. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
I rated 2 Thai 4 - top marks because it's everything I remembered it would be. The Tom yam goon soup and the deep fried pork Ribs as starters were superb. Then we had the crispy duck and the pork mince glass noodle salad.... yum yum yum.
The service is amazing. Action took care of us from beginning to end and we wanted for nothing!!!
Definitely coming back at least once a week!!!
A lovely quiet restaurant for those who like various taste sensations to tickle your taste buds.
Ambience: Quiet, relaxed, clean restaurant with appropriate music and decor. All crockery is branded and presented well.
Menu: A wide variety of options are offered, including vegetarian food and they do warn which items contain nuts.
Service: Good. Not many waiters available.
Management: Thd manager came to check on us - thank you.
Drinks: They promote a very nice Thai beer on the tables. Worth a try!
Food: Excellent, tasty, cooked to perfection - you cannot go wrong. If you are sensitive to hot food, some of the mild options might be even too hot for you. But it is clear that the chef knows what he is doing.
Price: Very reasonable!
I would most certainly recommend this restautant upon my experience there.
This is the kind of place I need to go to a few times to form an accurate opinion. But what i do love is that they do a Green Papaya Salad - not many places here serve it... and it's TASTY :) :) I love that stuff. Their green curry is a bit bland for me, but maybe that's just my taste buds, so I will order something else next time and update this review accordingly :) Very nice location, ambience and decor :) The rice is charged for as an extra. Wine menu and pricing is standard.
We went to 2Thai4 for lunch last Monday with some colleagues, and having not been there for a couple of years I was pleasantly surprised to see that things are still as I remembered them. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and seated inside as it was very hot outside.
When you step into the restaurant you are immediately transported to Thailand- the decor is bright and cheerful, and the vibe is casual. We chose to share a few starters and mains so that we could get a taste of a couple of different options on the menu.
For starters we ordered the green papaya salad and the sharing platter. I must say that the green papaya salad was absolutely delicious and exactly as I remember it from my travels in Thailand- crisp, tart, sour and sweet at the same time. Absolutely delicious! The starters sharing plate was also very good, the highlight being the fishcakes which tasted strongly of lemongrass, my favourite!
For mains we ordered the Jungle Curry, Chicken Green Curry, Crispy Duck with bok choi, and the Yellow Prawn curry with rice on the side. All really delicious and authentic! My definite favourite was the chicken Green Curry- really sweet and rich with good heat, I could not get enough and have been craving it since! The duck was also great- not overly fatty and crisp yet still tender.
As you can see from my photos, the food was superbly presented- you could see that great care had been taken to present the food beautifully, which I appreciate. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. All in all I will definitely be back, apparently they have a curry special on Sundays which I'm keen to check out. We didn't drink so can't comment on the wine list selection, I will have to go back in the evening to update my review.
I order take away from here and it's been one of the better Thai food places in the area. I haven't eaten at the restaurant but soon plan to visit for a sit down meal.
My family seems to love 2Thai4. Meals are tasty and I loved the chocolate spring rolls with Strawberry ice-cream. Mothers day buffet was a good value for money.
Hidden gem in the heart of Illovo. Spring Rolls were delicious and the Crispy Beef amazing. On a rainy Joburg evening this was a great choice for a bite to eat. Looking forward to trying some of their other dishes. Hidden, but definitely a winner!
Memories at this place leave me in silly giggles...
If you're looking for the perfect - hide-out? This is it.
If you're looking for great service? You'll be sorted here.
If you're looking for some amazing Thai food? This is your answer!!!
Now, good luck finding it off that often traffic-contested Corlett Drive... But when you finally do, do come back to me and share your great memory.
It will never disappoint - this I promise.
Pleasant dining experience all round. Excels in its simplicity. Would be sure to return.
Amazing, authentic dinner at this littler restaurant tucked into the back streets of Illovo (just off Corlett Drive)
We had the Thai Green Curry and a chicken/cashew nut dish. Both were absolutely delicious!
Had a really lovely dinner at 2 Thai 4 tonight. This was the 3rd time I've been here, and I can't say I have any complaints. The staff are always friendly, the menu is big but not overwhelming, and the decor is lovely. The lanterns, fairy lights and ornamental Thai fans on the walls are a gorgeous touch.
Now, the FOOD. I have never been disappointed by a dish here. The soups are varied and tasty, the noodle dishes are available in chicken, pork or prawns, and the curries are highly recommend. My personal favourite is the crab curry, which is simple and mild with veggies, and not to mention an entire, large crab. Don't be put off by the prices! The meals are large and definitely good value for money.
Some of the best Thai food in JHB! It is often quiet but the staff are friendly and attentive. The portions are quite large. Their Phad Thai is to die for.
I've driven past so many times and finally decided to go. There is a lovely outside area and parking. The service is efficient and the waiters know the menu. The food was wonderful. The green curry took me back to Thailand and the duck with spinach and pickled ginger was full of flavour. The spring rolls were a large portion good for sharing and crispy!
Lovely setting with private tables. We sat out on the deck on a summer evening and really enjoyed our time. Great food in generous portions! The staff are attentive and friendly! Only criticism is that both wines we ordered were no longer available on the menu.
We're currently on a detox diet, and Friday allowed us to have anything we wanted. We decided Thai food would be a good idea. The restaurant was quiet for a Friday evening with a few tables occupied on the outside deck.
For mains I ordered the "Plah Nung Si-Eow" which is whole fish steamed with ginger, garlic, basil, soy sauce and lemon, with the option of either Red Roman or Kingklip. I opted for the Red Roman option; the fish was perfectly cooked and packed full of flavour, it was also served with crunchy vegetables.
The other mains that were ordered were "Gaeng Keow Wan" - Greeny curry with coconut milk, prawns, and vegetables - it was possibly one of the best green curries I've tasted; & "Phed Lad Sauce" - Roast duck with spinach , bean sprouts and pickled ginger - the duck was well cooked and delicious.
All in all a fantastic restaurant, that I will be returning to.
I absolutely love Thai food and I was pretty excited to try out 2 Thai 4. The restaurant is huge and offers both outdoor and indoor seating. For starters, I tried the deep-fried spicy fish cakes which were really tasty. I ordered a hot prawn green curry with coconut milk and vegetables and egg fried rice. This was probably one of the best green curries I've had in Joburg. There was a generous amount of prawns in the dish and they were cooked perfectly. The dish was also well seasoned with just the right amount of bite. A friend ordered a duck dish which was just as delicious. We ordered the Bar-One Brownie Cake and Fudge Picasso for dessert. Both were delicious which is not surprising as they are supplied by Chateau Gâteaux. All in all, a great restaurant with delicious food and good service.
Always skeptical about thai food but these guys have the best spring rolls I have ever had - tried them at the taste of Joburg and would definitely go to the restaurant
This was another Taste of Joburg hit for me. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, which were really light and fresh. I loved that the veggies were almost still crunchy inside, and they went very well with the sweet chilli dipping sauce. My friend ordered the crispy beef and raved about it, although she said it could've been a liiiiittle bit crispier. Everything else on the menu looked tasty and the service was efficient.
I enjoyed each meal and the service was spot on. The food was delicious and I enjoyed the sweet and sour flavours of the meal I ordered. S/O to 2 Thai 4
Throughly enjoyed the amazing Thai Green Chicken curry with veggies! Perfect blend of spic and flavour! Authentic and delicious. Yum yum!!!
Spring rolls to die for! I ordered some and then I ordered some more and I'm going to order some more a bit later.
Really friendly staff and fast service. This is somewhere that I would recommend and visit again.
I just want to bow down and praise the Gods of amazing prawns for creating this lovely DEVINE establishment. Amazing? Understatement. BRING. ME. MORE.

I tried the fried rice, with beef at @tasteofjoburg
Delicious! Went back for the Chicken Thai curry, best! Shame there are only three dishes... Certainly date night idea!
It was a great experience, the food was fresh and full of flavour! I received great service. A true representation of thai food! I Will definitely go again !

Awesome food, waited in the line at Monte Casino (Taste of Joburg) !! Service is a bit disappointing but the food as always tasted amazing...
Vegetable spring rolls with Thai sweet chilli. It was divine. Tasty and crunchy. Thai crispy beef with vegetables mouth watering as always. Definitely will be back for seconds
The praen spring rolls and dumpling was very tasty. Very clean..the spices used made us come back for more and we actually took all of the prawn spring rolls left.
The most delicious spingrolls and fried beef and vegetables , great service and the most beautiful day at the taste of joburg. #TasteJoburg
Great crispy beef. Excellent food and really recommend. It's flavourful and delicious. Will definitely come back to this place. What are you waiting for?
Wasn't entirely impressed but also not my style of cuisine. Staff was very friendly and the service was quick. The ques went quickly and they tried their best to get peopled served as quick as possible. Not as spicy as I thought it might be
Very delicious, very elegantly spiced and balanced in an incredibly mouthwatering, tantalisingly beautiful flavour filled with heartfelt serenity.
I had the Thai crispy beef with vegetables. What can I say absolutely delicious. Crispy crispy beef fresh vegetables and the most awesome flavour in the sauce. A must for me again. Will definitely visit this restaurant again.
Thai green curry with egg fried rice @tasteofjoburg very tasty with a bit of a kick. Worth a try to anyone who can handle a nice thai green curry.
The prawn and cheese spring rold combination was explosive . It has a nice atmosphere would be perfect for 1st date, with very affordable places
I couldnt help but the smell from the incredible dishes just oozes through to invite you in. Once settled you cannot but help yourself to their great dishes.

Great vegetable spring rolls. Delicious sauces and good size. Highly recommended. A must for all visitors to illovo Johannesburg. My whole family loved them.
Had a first taste of Crispy Beef with Fried Rice from 2 Thai 4 at the Taste of Joburg and it is an absolute must have for all Thai Lovers all around Joburg on this hot summer day! I'm loving it!!!
I was fortunate enough to win tickets to the Taste of Joburg festival. Being an avid addict of any Asian cuisine- my natural instinct was to go to this gem after seeing all the amazing reviews on Zomato. I was craving spring rolls, as I always am. And being vegetarian, this is one of the only places that caters for vegetarians at this event. The service was extremely fast. For 4 crowns (R20), I was given 2 spring rolls. They were pretty good, although the mixture was a little bland compared to other spring rolls I've eaten before. Nonetheless, I'm quite thankful I got to eat them since the sweet and sour sauce that accompanied them has left a nice tingle in my mouth.
I have a chilli obsession, so when I went to a Thai restaurant I asked the waitress what is the hottest on the menu and I was told it’s the green curry. This is my choice at any Thai restaurant. I had the green prawn curry with jasmine rice. It was delicious. Coconut milk has a way of soothing your palate and then the chilli explodes. The prawns are plump and juicy and plentiful. The venue is relaxed with Thai touches and friendly (shy) waitresses. I also had a delicious chardonnay to wash this down:) good combo I must add.
2 Thai 4 on Corlett Drive has been a staple on the well established Rosebank / Illove dining scene. They are well priced and the food is delicious. I would recommend 2 Thai 4 to any Thai cuisine fan. I recommend the Phad Thai.
After a divine massage at Kai Thai we went to have dinner next door.
We shared the starters - Chicken Satay's and Spring Rolls - fresh and delicious.
I had the duck ...10/10 !
Have been back for take out since and was just as good !!!
Thus restaurant is really massive in a good location. Went on a saturday night and it was pretty empty. The food is decent, with good size portions and we'll priced.
Amazing, well-priced food. A lovely cultural experience. Great service. Lots of variety. Fresh ingredients. We sat by a lovely fire. It's a pity the restaurant was so quiet!
2 Thai 4 welcomed us into their cozy eating room at around 7pm last night. We ordered the crab curry and was delightfully surprised by the delicious tastes and textures that the meal provided. It was a bit of a nightmare trying to get to the meat of the crab without making a complete mess of it before, but we prevailed and our intent to enjoy the meal was stronger than the shells of those crabs!
The crab curry is a definite must try when going to 2 Thai 4, along with the friendly and good service, as well as the charming interiors of the restaurant, you won't be disappointed in this authentic Thai cuisine.
We went out to 2 Thai 4 for supper, and the food and ambience was absolutely lovely. The entire restaurant seems to be made from wood, and we opted to sit inside to avoid the cold. They had fire places heating up inside, and the whole mood was just so peaceful and enjoyable. Of the dishes we tried (crispy chicken in sweet and sour sauce, green curry with chicken, beef in black bean sauce, and a prawn stir fry) all of the food was spectacular. A vibrant mix of flavors in every single dish, and the quantities were really generous.
We decided to try one of their Thai desserts, their mango and rice pudding, and it really was amazing haha. So different and refreshing.
I highly recommend 2 Thai for, because we will definitely be going back.
Good never disappoints
Cost efficient pricing as well
Chicken streaks & sesame seeds was amazing
Veg red curry was better than the normal green curry that we order
Amazing food great drinks superb waiters and waitresses love the old cart and two story place to eat gorgious in side brilliant service ??
Love this place. Every time we've been they've delivered awesome service, generous and amazingly tasty food. Prices are fair and the ambience is relaxing and romantic - reminds us of being in Thailand again!
For me it is the ideal restaurant as there is ample parking, the service is fast and efficient and I do not have to wait in ques or beg for a table. I like the various flavours and especially enjoy the curries which are creamy and I can choose if I want hot, medium or mild. The staff are friendly and when I do have take aways, they are always ready when I arrive and still warm. I like the fresh food and the amount of vegetables in it as it is like a meal in one for me. Portion sizes are ample and sometimes I take some to the office as well. For a quick healthy meal, 2 Thai 4 will be my restaurant of choice.
Quiet on weekends. The location is not prime, but the food is good, but I was not blown away.. Reminds me of Simply Asia or Saigon.
Absolutely love this place! Quiet & intimate. Their Crispy Chicken dish is phenomenal! Will definitely be back to try their signature Green Curry, that I've been hearing about. Now I know they have Wifi as well, so might as well do the mobile office thing next time over a Thai lunch break. Brilliant.
This is by far the best and most affordable Thai restaurant in Johannesburg. The menu is diverse and caters to vegetarians and meat lovers alike :) It is the perfect place to have dinner with friends, family or your partner.
When you step into the restaurant who feel like you’ve stepped into a piece of beautiful Thailand. The staff are friendly and the service is brilliant; and the chefs are Thai which is always a bonus! I love this place as you don't often need to book and the crab is amazing!!
My favourite dishes are the lightly fried chicken wings- you have to try them. The spring rolls and Moo satay chicken are also great. For mains I'd suggest the Thai Green Curry (chicken or the veggie version), the Prawn or chicken Pad Thai, the stir fried pork with basil, garlic and fresh chili, and if you love crab you have to give it a try; it does require quite a bit of effort, but it is so worth it! I share it and order an extra serving of rice to mop up the delicious sauce.
I really suggest you give this lovely restaurant a try, it is a memorable experience.
BEST Thai in Gauteng
This is a MUST TRY restaurant. Great for families and couples. The food is out of this world, as is the service. Authentic Thai dishes with a broad cater-for-all menu. The sushi was out of this world, definitely some of the best I've had. We will most definitely be back - can't wait.
We got takeaways from here. We got the chicken spring rolls and Tom Yum soup to start. These were very tasty. The spring rolls were crispy and the dipping sauce was delicious. The soup was very spicy. This was a bit too spicy for my husband but I thought it was great.
For main we shared the chicken red curry with noodles. It was quite tasty. It was a little bit oily but not bad. It had the right amount of heat for bith of us.
The staff were evry helpful when ordering and collecting.
