always excellent curry, never disappointed with it. staff are also very friendly. I would highly recommend
This restaurant is just the best! The food is fantastic, the staff are friendly, service is super fast and their prices are so low. Can highly recommend their Paneer Masala, Chicken Madras and Vegetable Pakora starter. Our absolute favorite Indian restaurant.
A very well priced buffet on Saturday nights with many delicious options! Food is very tasty and the service is also good! Definitely would recommend
Situated just off the grant avenue in Norwood ,this came recommended by a friend of mine .Had chicken bota with garlic naan , chicken bota was so tender and succulent , garlic naan was tasty but could have little less oil, accompanying sauces were good but could be better. Please note this place closes between lunch and dinner as I previously come here in the past to find it closed.Prices are really affordable

I really enjoy getting takeaways from this restaurant, becoming a little ritual. I've never seen an Indian restaurant with such great value for money. Food is very yummy, hot lamb korma is a winner!
Surpringly wonderful food. Good quality and good prices. Had the meat platter starters, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo and lamb biryani. Couldn’t decide which was best. Defs worth checking this place out.
Best butter chicken I've had in my life...Give this hidden Gem a try...portions are large and reasonably priced. They also have a buffet which is great...waiters are friendly and service is good will definitely recommend eating here.
Would have received a 5 if I didn't find fluff in my naan. Meal wasn't too bad. First time I ordered the portion sizes were decent and second time was a little disappointed when I saw both quality and quantity dropped. Otherwise the taste is pretty good
I think you'll struggle to find a better value for money meal in Johannesburg. Specifically talking about the all you can eat buffet for R90. Massive variety of foods, dressings, dips and desserts. Food is outstanding, my only complaint is the amount of bones in the Chicken & Lamb curries. other than that it's probably some of the better Indian food available in the country. Interior and atmosphere is nothing exceptional, but it's volume of customers speaks for itself. Packed all evening, while the kitchen managed to keep up with the demand. Definitely worth trying . 4.5/5 🍛
Quick Service. Served nicely. Smiling staff. Medium spice is just right and sufficient enough to sa our all the fantastic flavors. Nothing served on the bone, but it still worked for me. We had the Mutton Korma and the Tandoori Masala Chicken, with garlic naan and rice (by default). Of moderately hungry, you will take away a doggy bag.
I’m so impressed with this place. It’s a really modest looking spot in Norwood, but there’s nothing modest about their food. Their butter chicken is heavenly, I just can’t get enough🙆🏽♀️. So rich and packed full of flavour and wonderful aromas. The guys there are so friendly and engaging and service is quick. Prices are ridiculously low and portions are decent with loads of meat. I paid R59 for my meal, which turned out to be 2 day’s worth of lunch, I mean really?? I urge you to try them out, you won’t be disappointed.
Honestly, this is probably the best value for money Indian food I’ve had. The portions are really generous, the food is delicious (chicken vindaloo mmmm) and I highly recommend you give them a try! As a bonus they’re on UberEATS! :)
Shahi Khana is a cute little Indian spot in Norwood :) the setting is nice but slightly dated; don't expect anything too fancy in general. The food is great and the prices are good for the portion sizes. What I like about this place is that they're able to accommodate all levels of spicy and prepare the dish to your preference. The service is good, too.
Shahi Khana is a delight for Vegetarians as in the lunch buffet they have around 9 types of snacks and some fish, chicken and lamb snacks too. You will definitely like any one of the snacks and that can easily fill in your stomach. The main course spread is also nice with one potato curry, daal makhni and some non vegetarian curries. The rice pudding in the end is awesome and so is gulab jaamun with ice cream. I also love the dahi vada or dahi bhalla at this place. It's really a place when you want to venture into different kinds of snacks in so much variety at such value for money prices. Thanks
We had a fantastic evening here. The place was the most well designed and ambient indian restaurant I've ever been to, although they could do with some authentic inrdian background music. For starters we ordered the deep fried prawn which was very yummy (awsome snack, perfectly crispy). For mains we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh with garlic Naan. I asked for hot, but I think my dish was mild...I had to add chillies and a little bit of salt to taste.
The service can be improved. The food portions are well priced and substantial. We had a wonderful time and ate more than we expected. Will definitely be going back to try their other dishes.
A friend brought me here for their Tuesday eat-as-much-as-you-like buffet (for only R85!) I love Indian food so I was super keen on going.
The restaurant has an "at-home" feeling, so I immediately enjoyed the look and feel. I basically tried a little bit of everything (and there was a lot), and I truly enjoyed all of the dishes. The lamb curry and butter chicken were my favourites of the evening.
After being stuffed, I decided to try their desserts and tried the jalebi for the first time. It tasted a lot like South African koeksisters, which is way too sweet for me, but my friend loved it.
Service was relatively good, but it got confusing at times trying to find a waiter because they didn't really have a uniform. Some of them even wore chef's coats.
But I would definitely recommend this spot for great authentic Indian food.

Went here last night and we were pleasantly surprised after reading the less than emphatic previous reviews on Zomato. In fact this place immediately rises to the upper reaches of our rather extensive Indian food list. Had the Lamb and Spinach and Lamb and Yellow Lentils and they were both very very good but the stars were the remarkable Naan (really) and delicious Sorgi. Really worth a try based on this evidence. We will definitely be back soon to try more on the menu. (Found their samoosas to be only so so, just for completeness).
Went to Shahi Khana last night with some friends. We arrived to find they were having a Saturday night buffet , and at R85 p/p it was really great value for money! Lovely selection of starters , mains as well as desserts!
Authentic Indian food is on offer here at extremely low prices. The decor is very basic, but the food is wonderful.
On Tuesday evenings (and I believe Saturdays as well) they have a buffet offering at R75 per person, which offers great dishes from starters all the way to desserts.
This is definitely a great place for some Indian cuisine. They offer quick service and delicious, flavourful food as well as a buffet on Tuesdays.
Good food. The service is great. Extensive vegetarian options. The restaurant has a small private parking lot just past the front door. Decor is basic. Limited wine options. Dirt cheap.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have visited. We have been around 5 times in total and the food is consistently good. I normally have the paneer dishes (palak or tikka) with a garlic naan. I normally order Medium but have tried hot and although I can handle hot food it was really hot so will stick to medium from now on!! Friendly and quick service.
Went here for lunch with a friend, and I was pleasantly delighted. The menu is large for an Indian restaurant, with many variations to suit just about anyone's tastes! I had the mild butter chicken, which was delicious, and my friend had a vegetarian dish with cheese and tomato, which she raved about.
The service was very friendly and warm, although I will say that our waiter took a long time to see to us and our food took a long time to arrive, considering we were one of two tables if two people in the entire restaurant at the time. Otherwise, a very pleasant experience!
Taste was very authentic and dishes were favorable.. Though the number of dishes and variety is very limited, they make sure that they serve those ones appropriately..
The rotis could have been better, but still not bad..
Great value for money! they have a buffet on a Tuesday - they put out a selection of starters, mains, veges, salads, naan and desserts - it allows you to try bits of everything! They make an aromatic rice dessert that is incredible!
The service is great, with very friendly waiters who attend to your every need. Great variety of vegetarian dishes. Loved eating all vegetarian dishes. Well priced and the buffet on Tuesdays is a real treat!
Came here randomly after perusing Grant street on a Saturday night. Pleasantly surprised. Authentic northern indian food with a range of spice levels. Friendly staff.
Also happened to be a buffet evening. Starters are highly recommended.
Ventilation could also be improved.
So .....booked here on the back of excellent Zomato reviews !!
Our experience:
Service : 3/10 - Seriously lacking
Food : 8/10 - we had chicken and veggie Samoosa to start !! Mains - we really trawled the menu - korma 's , vindaloo's , butter chicken, tikka masala and naan breads - so much of YUM ....kept warm by the authentic Indian burners 😂😂😂 !!
Wine glasses - BRING YOUR OWN
And skip the pudding - rice pudding - eeeeuw !!!
All in all a fun evening and our tummies are full on this freezing spring evening 🍃🍃🍃

Great little place. I've only had take aways from here but they're always friendly and fast. The food is decent and cheap. Very solid restaurant.
We decided to go for the Tuesday night buffet. The restaurant was busy and the service was good. Very attentive and also friendly toward the kids at our table.
They continuously topped up the buffet with a wide range on offer from lovely fresh starters to a good variety of main meals with chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes.
Dessert on offer was a rice pudding and ice cream.
It would have been easier for us and the kids if they could somehow indicate which dishes were hot or mild.
Overall a very affordable evening which we all enjoyed.
A lovely place in Norwood which is always crowded on a Tuesday evening, reason begin their value for money buffets served only on Tuesdays for dinner. I have been a frequent visitor here especially for Tuesday buffet. We used to land up at this place most of the Tuesdays while driving back home from work, reason being why to struggle with cooking at home after a tiring day at work, and also when its not going to be heavy on your pockets. They have nice starters, recommended one being their idlis and crispy vada's. Buffet has a nice spread of veg and non veg delicacies with variety of chutneys. Ambience is decent with an outdoor seating option as well.
A must visit for good Indian food especially on Tuesdays :)
Been here on Saturday and it had buffet. It was simply amazing. Super food. Super staff. The owner Kailesh, himself prepares food for people who come to his restaurant. I have been many times to Shahi Khana n never have I been disappointed. In fact I hv always tried new recipe and enjoyed them totally
While I'm not mad about sitting in the restaurant as it lacks some vibe, I come here weekly for brilliant curry takeaways. Prices are great too - it costs around R45 for a veg briyani which is two meals it's so big (and I'm not one to shy away from big portions).
I don't really eat very creamy Indian dishes, so can only highly recommend the briyani and vindaloo meals.
They have a buffet on Tuesday nights where you can help yourself to as much as you want, for around R75.
I’m not a fan of Indian food because of how hot it gets, but THIS place has
me. I first came here about 6 years ago when I used to work with a record
label that was 2 floors above them. They always used to eat there on
Fridays or on special occasions. I enjoyed their service, and they
generally serve great food. Really good place.
Great food, great service, great vibe, affordable. Love this place. We went for a quick lunch and ordered two dished to share. The food is of an exeptional standard. Comfortable and delicious.
The Tuesday buffet is the best! There is a wide variety for veg and the price is totally worth it. They do tend get full so do book before you get there.
Tuesday night buffet - need I say more! Great value for money, excellent selection of starters and mains and it was fresh. The restaurant was busy which meant that the Naans were warm, the rice was fresh (not dried out) and the deep fried options for starters were still crispy. I hear they offer this buffet on a Saturday night which is a great idea!
Got a Mutton Rogan Josh and Paneer Korma takeaway. Both were great with authentic taste and good seasoning. Korma was a little spicy for my wife, so just ask for extra mild if you have a soft pallet but for me the flavor was spot on. Add a Naan and some rice and it's a great meal in.
Takeaway packaging was silver foil dishes so food arrived fresh and hot too.
Fantastic and very reasonable buffet on a Tuesday evening. Great service and completely authentic. Highly recommended .. Great place to come with friends!

Just had some take away #butterchicken curry from Shahi Khana in Norwood, and I have to say it is actually very good. The spice is just right and it's exceptionally good from a value-for-money point of view. I have yet to eat at the actual restaurant, so once I've done that I will be able to give a full rating, but for now it's getting 3.5/5, with the potential to get another point of the experience matches the food.
Shahi Khana is a quaint restaurant with a homely atmosphere which, despite serving excellent food, is seldom busy owing to a rather obscure location when compared to other restaurants in the area.
The staff is friendly and attends to you almost immediately whether grabbing some take out or sitting down to eat.
On this occasion I ordered the lamb tikka masala with a butter naan bread which was fantastic. I was so hungry that I forgot to take pictures until I had eaten it all but I'm sure I'll be back soon enough.
Delicious, freshly prepared food. Sat in their makeshift outdoor area. Best lamb Biriyani we've had in ages. Perfect naan. Tasty palak paneer. Thank you for a lovely summer evening!
A lovely Indian spot in Norwood that my friends and I order takeaways often for our boardgame evenings. The menu is well priced and all dishes come with rice! We tend to order butter naan and stuffed naan additionally. Last night I called and placed an order which was ready in 20 minutes. I'd recommend the butter chicken and paneer masala (delicious) - this is the dish that tends to get polished off first! The order was placed in an easy to carry flat cardboard container. Highly recommended.
Really great Indian food. One of our favourite restaurants.
Very good service and tasty food. Not the best I have ever had but great for a nice quick good meal
