Excellent food, service and price. We go at least once every few weeks. Can’t fault it and they keep introducing new items on the days specials. Very good.
An awesome restaurant. Hidden away in Bryanston. Love this restaurant. I am often here cant wait for the next time
Beautiful atmosphere, lovely lighting , great service and the best seafood in johannesburg . Well run with managers and owners always present.
Best calamari in Johannesburg! Salad was amazing! Service was quick and the centre is quaint Look forward to going back to try other options.
Always good but with the revamp done it’s now great. food as usual is just as good. Come early or perhaps a little later and you won’t be disappointed in not getting a table
The Fisherman’s Kitchen has very fast service and serves delicious food. I had the Cape whiting and calamari combo with scampi with tartare sauce. The fish was juicy and had not a single bone! The scampi was crispy and the prawns were succulent. The rice was good and we were out of there in 45 mins.
A hidden gem ! Fresh fish served at its best ! Good sized portions - salads good - we just love the fried onions rings and usually have the the rice - with a shared portion of chips. Good value - friendly service - with a reasonably good selection of wine.
Probably the best hake and chips on this side of the world. Economical family evening out. Relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Good food service.
Took my Family there yesterday for Mother’s Day lunch.
The whole shop has had a revamp including a deck area which is lovely.
The food was delicious and the service fast and friendly even though they had a full house.
Pricing was very reasonable and the menu is superb.
I would definitely recommend a visit and will definitely be returning.
This review is based on satisfying the need for good old-fashioned comfort food. This is where fatty carbs, oil soaked chips, and batter are your friends. Good friends! If in need of said remedy this is the place for you. The fish is a total winner, I tried hard to stick to the grilled selection but lost all control once stepping up to the counter. The smells....I caved and ordered two value packs of hake, chips, and salad. Adding an extra coleslaw and beetroot (very sweet) salad. Had I known how succulent the fish was, I would rather have had an extra portion. Melts in your mouth and no bones to freak you out.
Great food. Absolutely excellent. And decent sized portions. However I would not recommend the chicken menu, and the hake is a bit on the dry side. The chicken burgers has too much of a sauce of what I only can describe as Big Mac sauce.
Perfect place to grab a light lunch. The battered hake is good, but their grilled garlic chicken is to die for, plus the best chips in town. The place is always packed so rather call in advance for takeaways.
The Fishermans Kitchen on Main Rd is a complete hidden gem and my go-to spot for fish & chips cravings!
Don't expect frills, fancy interiors or unnecessary extras. The interiors don't look like they have changed in over thirty years, but if you would like a decent fish & chips takeaway at a great price.. You cannot go wrong with giving this little spot a try.
*Recommendation: The Fishermans Kitchen's hake (in batter) and chips is melt-in-your-mouth!
The fishermans kitchen in Bryanston may not be your go to fine dining spot, it however a fantastic little spot for fresh, tasty and affordable seafood take always. I find their prices very affordable and their service consistently good. Give it a try if you are looking for fresh seafood without the price hike.
This place has been there for must be 30 years. They have survived by serving quality food and great value for money. Great for quick, simple lunch or dinner, and very convenient for seafood take out. They also serve delicious chicken for those who don't do seafood. Try the scampi or fried calamari you won't be disappointed. Don't expect fine dining decor, but you will enjoy the honest fresh produce
We've been here many times and not been disappointed. Casual, simple ambience and short but interesting menu. We found the special, a grilled East Coast Sole, as good as anywhere. Prawns were tasty, but the calamari was judged to be sub par - a bit tough and seemingly overcooked. The service needs to be tightened up a notch; we had to wave to attract attention too often. Perhaps just one waitron too few.
This place is truly a little gem...dont tell anyone about it. Let it remain as "old fashioned" as it is. Love it! ..............................................................................
An old school hidden gem! You would not believe from looking at this place from the outside that the fish is so fresh and delicious! It's like stepping back in time to a proper local fish shop, where the produce is fresh and the dishes never let you down. It is a quaint spot, with plastic table clothes and only necessary decor but don't be fooled! The menu is simple and consistent, and the fish is spiced perfectly. The fish is the star of the plate and prepare perfectly, which makes it easy to eat a healthy meal here. Value for money is amazing. Go for a super casual, old school dining experience - proof that you don't need to be on the seaside for a good seafood meal!
The food here is really amazing, but I find the ladies that service unprofessional and somewhat rude. 5 star for the food but the service needs to improve!!!!
I am very fond of this restaurant! They have divine meals with the best squid heads. Their fish is always perfect and they have such reasonable specials - just ask!
Occasionally the service is slow, but the food always comes out quickly!
They cater for all ages and occasionally you can sit with a much older crowd- which I think is so special.
The decor is very simple but that isn't the main attraction. It is the food.
I would recommend this restaurant to all sea food lovers. And a great place to try a new meal.
The restaurant has very basic decor but makes up for it with the quick service and quality food. When in doubt go for the very reasonably priced hake and chips which is delicious.
The best squid heads in town!
Visiting this place reminds me of how simple life can be. It's run with excellency and simplicity.
Nothing fancy but dam good fish and great service.
This is a local favourite - basic decor, plastic table Otha et al. Service is quick and the food is good. Highly recommended for a 'load shedding' option or a quick bite en route to friends or a movie
Ordered take aways. Done super fast! I can really recommend the budget pack!! The calamari and hake are honestly the best in jhb! Service was good!
So this restaurant is your classic fish and chips restaurant, they do only the basics, but they do it well, I rate them only a 4 because they don't have a lot on the menu. But the staff are amazingly friendly and the food is amazing quality. It had reasonable prices and good quality food and friendly staff, and at the end of the day, you don't really want much more out of a restaurant.
We had another great meal there last night. It is our favourite seafood restaurant in Gauteng! It reminds us of seafood restuarants in Portugal, Spain , France and Italy. Very cozy. No loud music, and one can speak to your partner and guests. The quality of the food is always top class. Service is outstanding. We would like to recommend that you consider a Curry sauce over Fried fish as an option. It is very popular in East London and PE.The Curry sauce is mild, and is poured over the fish, immediately after it is fried.Kind regards, Ian and Brenda Masson
Great fresh fish meals at value for money prices!
Highly recommended!!
I love this homely restaurant with a loyal and regular clientele. It may be on the wrong side of Main Road as opposed to its brash neighbours in the Nicolway but offers fresh, deliciously cooked fish and seafood at very affordable prices. The special of the day (for example, a fish and seafood combo with chips/salad) is R79 and means a meal with a shared bottle of wine gives one a smug glow at little more than R100. There is a choice of seating offered in either the open-sided area in front of the serving counter or in the closed off more intimate area round the back. The service is friendly and efficient and the diners here dress for comfort rather than show. One can pre-order and pick up prepared whole fish for your oven and serve it up to house guests as your own work. On Fridays we have to get there early to get a table if we haven't pre-booked so despite it's location, it remains a popular local haunt and is definitely worth a visit.

I had some lunch from fisherman's kitchen one day as they are close to my office. What a treat! The portions are big and the fish is delicious. The batter was so scrumptious. The chips are also done really well. Fisherman's kitchen will satisfy any fish & chips craving you may have! Definitely worth popping in when the craving hits! The manager was really friendly as well. I think it is a perfect lunchtime spot.
A cute and homely spot, we had a seafood platter for 2. Their portions are very generous, the seafood was fresh and delicious and I was surprised by how cheap their wines are. The waiters that served us also gave us good service, I am definitely going back to try their sushi.

Popped in here for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised.
The food was excellent. My wife and I had different combos. Both of which were perfectly cooked and very tasty.
However ,we didn't enjoy the onion rings as they were fairly oily.
The service was also excellent.
Overall , we will definitely head back here!
Fisherman's Kitchen deserves full ratings in all areas! The fish and chips was excellent. We had an office lunch and even with the large order the meals came out right. Misr recommendable!
Wonderful experience at the Fisherman’s Kitchen. A small family owned Fishmonger and restaurant. Their fish is very good; fresh, and cooked well where the focus is on the produce. The menu is small but tasty and value for money. Service is also very good.
I had the hake and calamari combo, and prawn tempura. Both dishes were delicious.
Definitely recommended.
Highly recommended: convenient location, parking at the door, lovely decor and ambience, awesome food and good value portions. Try the fried calamari! Suggest chips as the best optional side (the salad was a bit plain).
Fresh slap chips... Yummy. Oh and their other dishes are wonderful too. We order take out regularly. Food is well cooked and served as requested.
Fantastic food, in relaxed environment, with great prices and service!
For my dad's 80th birthday lunch - couldn't have chosen a better place... Love the food, efficient service and a really enjoyable afternoon had by all... 😀
By far the best seafood resturant in the Jozi area. Food was outstanding, service was on point and managers really friendly and checkd on every table. Would 100% recommend for seafood.
By far the best seafood I've ever had. Service was quick, our waitress Percy was very polite and attentive even though the resturant was very busy we were looked after. The two managers Carol and the young man were on point and very busy keeping everything smooth. Will definitely come back again. Food was very good and very fresh. Chips were to die for and what a lovely sea side atmosphere!
Truly an amazing experience. Staff are very attentive. Managers are very good. Lovely atmosphere. Will definitely come back in the future. Highly recommend above ocean basket. Food is much fresher!
Truly an amazing experience, staff are friendly and professional and service was fast even though it was a full restaurant! Food was even better. Prawns were cooked to perfection and the chicken livers starter are to die for. What an amazing experience will be coming back again.
Service 5/5
Food 5/5
Atmosphere 5/5
No power working late hungry not knowing where to go just can't do pizza or pasta and driving up main road remembered fisherman's kitchen been a while but as good as ever deep fried hake and chips and prawns and chips awesome friendly staff all the best guys.
Really nice restaurant, generally old class of people who go there. The food was really really nice. No play area, so your kids would need to be at the table with you. I'd probably reorder the food but as a takeaway next time.
Always do the takeaway fish and chips and always a great meal. Family run, the staff recognize you and make you feel at home.
Not grand, but friendly service and excellent quality food at reasonable prices. A local favourite for good reasons.
Undoubtedly the best beer battered hake and chips outside of the UK!!
