Delicious meals and speedy service within a clean and neat restaurant. The meals were a 10/10 and were so impressive that we asked to speak to the chefs and thank them directly after our meal. The menu has a variety of meat and veg dishes - the paneer chutney, aloo mattar, chicken tikka and butter naans are a must try! The restaurant also has a generator to cater for loadshedding - however it is advisable to take cash as the card machines may lose signal due to loadshedding.

Bombay Crush was just the way I like it... with all the bits... Butter chicken and garlic naan never disappoints. Chicken chilli dry was really good. Not oily like other places I've been.

Food is very great! But the staff must learn customer skills. They very eager for a tip which is already included in their bill they present you so watch out for that!

Great efficient service. The food tastes good, the portion size is big, for an affordable place.

I had a chance to visit this restaurant with my friend who suggested me for Chicken Chili. So I ordered chicken chili with Chicken fried rice. The quantity was enough for two person and the taste was not chinese but desi chinese with alot of spice.
I loved the dish while to kill burning mouth, I ordered Mango Lassi which was ok.
Overall it was a nice place with not very good service.
At the end tried their icecream which was again ok in taste.

Service: 3/5
Food: 4/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value for money: 4/5

Not very appealing by appearance but the food is tasty. Beef kharai my favorite with butter naan and rice. Never order the butter chicken, it's shocking. The staff are friendly and hardworking. The food is prepared quickly and everything is tasty.

Attended a family member's function at the Bismillah Restaurant's hall for a buffet supper. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised and highly impressed with all the food! Everything I tasted was DELICIOUS 😋
Been craving their food ever since!

The food is a blast of flavour! I'm never dissatisfied when I go there! The ambiance is simple though, but I don't mind. Parking is also an issue.

Had an amazing supper here last night. Tried a few dishes and all were amazing. The prawn manchurian was especially outstanding. My wife had the butter chicken and it was by far the best I have ever tasted, rich with flavour. The naan bread as well was hot and delicious and perfectly complemented our meals. We enjoyed our meals so much we decided to both order chicken tikka to take away. The chicken tikka as well was AMAZING definitely the best I have tasted yet.

If you feel for Indian food then this is the place to go if you on a budget. Great food and awesome service. The food portions are amazing and 2 to 3 people can share a meal. I was disappointed with the chicken biryani as I expected a lot more chicken but got a load of rice and a tiny piece if chicken leg.

Overall great place.

Been there about 2 years ago. Lots of my Indian friends talk about this place. Food was good. Setting not so great. Will go again when I can

Authentic Indian and Pakistani cuisine served with delicious fresh rogni or garlic naan. The decor needs work and the walls are beginning to look shabby, but the food is tasty and makes it worth the visit. Indian desserts are not my favourite so cannot recommend them here.

Always a winner. Haha. I love Bismillah with my heart and soul. And stomach.
I've celebrated my graduation here, had a few dinners and lunches with loved ones. And it's always a winner. Glorious food, and great for groups.

My introducing to Indian cuisine. I always go for the Aloo Paratha for starters as well as Beef Sheesh Kebab. My favourites are the Butter Chicken and Prawn Manchurian from their sizzlers. Good service and great taste.

Not the best curry I've ever had... The medium was a bit mild for my liking.
The starters we had were REALLY good.
The overall feel of the restaurant is a bit odd, very open and almost canteen like.
Also - pretty good milkshakes!

Went to get take out ta Bismillah after a colleague recommended it. GEEZ😨, I got butter chicken. it tasted last it had been frozen for the longest time.Didnt even finish half of the portion.
My partner got mutton curry it was also a let down not rich enough.

Positive thing: the person taking our order was very friendly.

I don't like Bismillah, personally. I went there cos a friend of mine wanted to go. I had their butter chicken which was mediocre, if anything.
On a positive note, they have a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes.

We went with friends of ours who love the place so we agreed to try it out with them. I ended up sharing a platter with tikka chicken, sheesh kebab and chicken boti. All hot. Comes with chips, roti and salad. It was hot which was good but that was about it. Food is average and service was good. Not worth coming all the way just to eat here.

A real hidden gem this restaurant is... With a variety from Chinese to pakistani they have them all! The hot and sour soup or chicken corn soup all help to fight the winter blues! And a rasmalaai for dessert who's complaining... a little secret from India on your door step

First time tasting roti ( butter naan) this good , this has got to the the best roti I have ever had , and the the mutton masala is real good .....

I am here at least once a month.
I've read other people's reviews and their complaints but i love it here.

There are 2 Bismillah restaurants on Mint Street so make sure you get it right. I've made the mistake and walked away mad.

What to order from here:
Butter chicken!!!! And it's not what you expect, it is not chicken in a butter tomatoe sauce. It is chicken in a butter sauce. I'm talking the best comfort food in this dimension. Calories for what? You're here for a mouth orgasm! Order it with naan bread I prefer the garlic naan bread.

Order the breyani, oh boy, it's delicious. Whether lamb, chicken or seafood. It's delicious and they make great chicken tikka.

They have a few specials on Fridays :)

When it comes to the term "Value For Money"- few areas come closer to this concept than Fordsberg, and few restaurants in the area come closer than Bismillah! You definitely are t going for the scenery and atmosphere, but what they lack in looks they more than make up for in quality food!
Roger Sivuyile
Good food, efficient service and generous portions, and reasonable prices. Nothing more nothing less. I ordered the boneless mutton curry and the portion was large enough to share, and definitely one of the best I've had in a while.
The place is clean and the decor simple, not much of a vibe. Hop in eat and chuck.

Really overrated and the last place I would go for a good curry. It is dingy and dirty and the food is questionable. Definitely had many a better curry elsewhere.

A very special place. So many good memories from the first time I was introduced to this place in '07 an the free samoosa's they give me now whenever I go there. And as for the actual review - make sure you include the Tikka Chicken with any order you make - trust me!

Got introduced to this gem in 2008 and rediscovered it in 2011. Whenever I feel for good curry or tandoori chicken that won't make a dent to my budget I know where to go.

First off, let me say that this is not near the quality of other extremely good Indian restaurants in Joburg. Their food is not bad and a lot of the curries from what I understand are not made fresh to order which is extremely disappoiting. The food is not very flavourful and lacks that layer of TLC.

It feels as though you are just at another average restaurant which has very basic decor when you walk in that needs a lot of work. The korma curry is below average and lacks a lot of flavour and the correct balace of richness. There is a wide selection of vegetarian curries on the menu to try.The pricing of their meals is better than most Indian restaurants which is probably due to the lower quality of the ingredients. Their service does seem quite a bit of attention as they do not seem to follow what you order. On to dessert, the ice cream is not good and the sweet sauce they put over it spoils the dessert even more.

I would recommend trying other Indian cuisine restaurants in the area as there are two to three good ones.

This place is awesome. Authentic, delicious food, fantastic service :) I can't wait to come back again! What a great experience :)

Bismillah is recommended by all friends that frequent Fordsburg. I tend to think there's not much of a difference between any of the Indian restaurants in Fordsburg.

Bismillah's menu is extensive and if you're not sure of what the different meals are, the waiters will help you out. Try out a filled paratha for starters but make sure to leave space for the tastier mains. Tandoori chicken is always a winner and so is any of the curry-type dishes.

Go on. Order dessert. You can eat your heart out and pay a fraction of what you will at other Indian restaurants.

Simply delicious food and great service. Favorites are the grilled chicken tikka. Always request for extra emliy sauce and pour it over your chicken. Best combination by far.

Don't expect them to make good burgers or any traditional fast food. You'll be disappointed and quite frankly at the wrong restaurant.

Best price to Food Quality ratio you'll find in any restaurant in Fordsburg.

Not the most glamorous of setups but what magic they pull off in those kitchen remain to be tasted again and again.

Meal recommendations:
Chicken Tikka with extra emily sauce. Breast portion and garlic naan.
Chicken breyani with sour milk.
Mutton Curry with plain naan.
Chicken Curry with plain naan.
Chicken boti masala with garlic naan.

These guys won The Star Readers choice restaurant for a few consecutive years. Their waiters are some of the quickest and friendliest. Lacking ever so slightly on their English but understandable nonetheless.

Based simply on the enjoyment of their good I'd give them a 5. However the initial appearance of the place might deter a few people.

This is one place where the notion "Don't judge a book by its cover" comes fully into play.

Cheap and tacky might come to mind when you think of Bismillah but you'd actually be pretty far off the mark. The word you're looking for is authentic. I took my Indian mother-in-law there when we first moved to Johannesburg and the first thing she said when we walked in was "It's just like the restaurants in India!"

The menu is vast -- probably because most of it is precooked and frozen -- but don't let that deter you. What it lacks in swankiness it makes up in cheap, and the food is always deeply satisfying. Better yet, the food will arrive pretty much instantaneously once you've ordered it.

Bismillah is a great place to go with a big group of friends who like to make lots of noise. The setting is informal and you'll want to order a bunch of dishes and then pass them all around the table.

If you don't want to eat out, you always have the option of ordering over the phone for pick-up.

Lots of people like lots of different things at Bismillah -- the menu includes everything from soups and starters to grills, curries, briyanis and some Indianised chinese noodles, so there's something for everyone. But if you ask me there's only one thing to order -- the mutton karahi, and do order it "extra meat, no bones". I've tried mutton karahi at many places and none of them beats Bismillah's version.

The tandoori chicken with garlic naan is also a winner but even their medium is fairly hot so choose widely when they ask whether you'd like it "mild, medium or hot".

As a meal accompaniment, try a sweet or mango lassi. And don't leave without a nice cup of masala tea and some rass malai for dessert.

If you looking for Indian food at a reasonable price, the Bismilla is the place to go.

Dont expect smart decor and anything glamorous but the food will have you licking you fingers.

The cheese and aloo paratha is a great starter. Served with a spicy sour milk dip, brace yourself or you will be stuffed before mains arrive.

The butter chicken and chicken boti masala with butter naan is my favorites. If you not a fan a spicy, request mild or you will be steaming from your ears.

If you feeling for flame grilled tandoori try their seekh kebab which are juicy and tender or their chicken tikka which are served with chips and salad.
