Review Donatellas - Johannesburg

Delicious food as usual at Donatellas. Abit disappointed that the vegan menu was unavailable although the website and physical menus stated that is available upon request. The reason was that it was not popular or in demand. Service started out great but had to look for the waiter for dessert menus and the bill, seemed like he'd forgotten about us midway. Still rating it a 4 since the food was great for the huge portions.

Amazing restaurant, the food was phenomenal and the service was great, we didn't even wait 20 minutes before our food arrived. The paella is a must try dish. Beautiful restaurant.

Great atmosphere and great service, the meat option seemed nice and from what I've heard, but if you're going there for vegiterian dishes it's kinda average with comparison to the price .They didn't have some of there vegiterian options as well... they also didn't have alot of they're dessert options.

Excellent value for money and a restaurant that has a lovely, calming ambiance. The pastas and pizzas are delicious, packed with flavour and the portions are big. We consider this to be our favourite restaurant at Monte and we highly recommend it.

A pasta place in Montecasino, need I say more? Lovely setting in a section of Montecasino without too much foot traffic David, our waiter, was attentive friendly and professional with us. Excellent foods! Starters, main and dessert, all delicious. Foods came quick. Service was outstanding; everybody there is prepared to help you! Special commends to our waiter Nkosi, for being knowledgable and pleasant. If I stayed closer, I'd be here every week!

A lovely Italian restaurant based within Monte Casino. Most of the main meals vary between 130-250 rand. Went on a very busy evening and were treated with very welcoming service. Meals were brought to our tables surprisingly fast and were delicious. I highly recommend ordering a strawberry daiquiri, the alcohol wasn't too strong and was just the right amount of sweet.

Fabulous atmosphere. Comfortable seating, including couches. Delicious food. Menu is wide-ranging, from pastas and pizzas, to seafood and grills. Attentive, but not intrusive, service. We spent two and a half hours here, having a leisurely dinner before the ballet. It was really enjoyable.

Very friendly staff, warm and cozy atmosphere. Ruth was a good server to us. The food was excellent. My wife and I both had fillet steaks which were done to the perfect temperature as ordered and had excellent flavour. The card machine does struggle to pick up signal and I had to go to the atm to draw cash so just be aware of that but there are more inconveniences in life than that so it wasnt really a problem. I can definately recommened this restaurant for a dining experience.

Donatellas has been around for many years and with good reason. They are exceptional. Their food is always top quality. Service always quick and efficient. They are our go to place hands down. With many signature dishes still going strong, and new dishes regularly added they have managed to remain both consistent and relevant through the years. This is an amazing feat for a restaurant.

Food is amazing. Service is really good. This place is in a quiet corner, but it should just be placed on a podium for we are not worthy of food this good. Try the prawns...

I'm visiting South Africa from London, and I must be honest, this is the best steak I've had the whole year! My family ate pizzas and pastas and they absolutely loved their food too! The service was incredible too. I can't recommend Donatella's highly enough.. A gem of Joburg

I believe that service is just as important as the food and given that there was an effort to rectify the issue, I will leave my review at a 4 star until I visit again. <br/><br/> Food was very tasteless. However, the service was great. The manager came over to ask how our food was and when telling him how bland the food was, he apologized. Unfortunately will not be returning here.

Service was good. Food took a bit long to come out but was very worth the wait. Ordered pasta which was delicious. Portions are very large. Average about R140 a pasta.

Good liver starter and polite service, order mains as there teck and prawns combo with peri peri, was good. Generic portion and well maintained restaurant.

So I quickly wanted to grab a bite before going to the theatre.<br/><br/>Sometimes I like to go to a restaurant that has a huge variety on their menu, because then I can decide in the moment what I’m craving.<br/><br/>And I must say, great variety... I couldn’t make up my mind, all the food sounded amazing. But I decided to go with the healthier option.<br/><br/>The food was delicious, very tasty, well prepared and I would say quality and quantity.<br/><br/>As I left for the theatre, the table next to mine got served their food. Most of them ordered seafood dishes, and even though I just ate, my mouth was watering for that seafood. The portions looked amazing.<br/><br/>So I’ll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Phoned at 17;00 to reserve a table, and on arrival the management made a great effort to seat us at a table that we were comfortable at, despite the fact that they were almost filled to capacity and that there was a huge show on at the Teatro, they did their  very best to make sure there was a relaxed atmosphere and wonderful food> The pasta I had with Chorizo was excellent and the Kleftiko lamb my wife ordered was magnificent. We do not often frequent Monte Casino and only go there for the odd musical show, and have to say that  next time we go we will without doubt return to Donatella's. Very pleasant experience altogether. Thank you gentlemen.

I would’ve loved to have written a positive review as the food was good. However, whilst eating my meal a cockroach was crawling next to me on the blue couch. This is really unacceptable. Upon calling the waiter, I was told that yesterday pest control came in and now “all the insects are probably running out from the kitchen”. No response or apology from management. I heard really good reviews about this restaurant and was eager to try it out. It was a pity the experience was so poor.

Good dining experience, ambience and decor is stunning. My partner and I both ordered the rump steak which was cooked perfectly. The accompanying vegetables were a slight disappointment as they turned out to be a stir fry made up of mostly cabbage (which neither of us eat) but we now know to ask the waiter to specify next time.

We had a wonderful experience at Donatella’s over the weekend! The food was amazing and the service was great. <br/><br/>The stand out dishes for me included the Hake and calamari combo, which was a massive portion of fish served with calamari, chips and vegetables. The petti di polo in prego sauce was tender and packed with flavour and the Gnocchi in Dona’s sauce was absolutely delicious as the gnocchi was light and fluffy!! <br/>

Lovely food with a warm atmosphere and a laided back feel. However I had a problem with the service, waiters aren’t working up to standard. The food is also a bit pricey but delicious. Definitely recommend to anyone who’s at Monte!

I am so disappointed with this place's food. I ordered 2 oxtail dishes as a takeaway. My order came in 2 heavy and hot pizza boxes with no paper bag/plastic to carry them. The oxtail is the worst I have ever tasted. The meat was tough, underseasoned and really bland. The creamy spinach and stir fry was oily and also tasted of absolutely nothing. This was my first time eating from your restaurant and I spent R390 on food I ended up giving away to the needy on the side of the road. I wouldn't recommend this dish to anyone. It wouldnt hurt to use herbs and spices to enhance the taste of food Donatella's team! Lovely staff and service though even tipped the waitron even though I was getting a takeaway.

“Eat, drink and be merry” is a saying we all know well and this is the ideal way to describe my evening of dining at Montecasino. I had the opportunity to indulge in a delicious meal at the beautifully renovated Donatella’s Italian Seafood and Grillhouse.<br/><br/>Choosing which of Donatella’s dishes to try wasn’t an easy task but as recommended by manager Steve Demos, I opted for a starter of Haloumi Montecasino followed by the signature oven baked Kleftiko – tender lamb with lemon, garlic and secret mountain herbs.<br/><br/>Our waiter, Major, was a joy and tended to our every whim whilst keeping a keen eye on the time to ensure we made it to the theatre on time. Whilst waiting for our meal, we sipped one of my favourite red wines, Beyerskloof Pinotage. Being a cheese fan, I was impressed by the tasty fried haloumi and it is clear why the Kleftiko is Steve’s pride and joy, slow cooked overnight, it literally fell off the bone. This has to be one of our go-to places at Montecasino. It's an all-round good place, with decent wines, good food, service, position and staff. I can recommend the calamari special with feta cheese. Their steaks and pizzas are also good.

Donatella's is always mine and my husband's go to restaurant for a meal where we do not want to browse through the menu because we know exactly what we're going to order and it is delivered with the same amazing flavour every single time. <br/>The setting is simple elegance, black and white with turquoise couches. The friendly old man is always welcoming and<br/> he remembers his regular customers which makes a huge difference. <br/>Our go-to dish is the Petti Di Pollo - Prego, either with stir fried veggies, chips, rice or mash. The prego sauce does not change and is perfect every single time. <br/>We've tried the Focaccia, Chicken Livers, Pizzas, Paella and Marsala Chicken which are all very tasty, but we always <br/>go back to the Prego chicken. It doesn't even matter that we both order the same meal, it is THAT GOOD!

A lovely restaurant situated in Monte Casino and a great place to enjoy a meal with your family. The owner is so welcoming and warm which makes the experience worthwhile. As a family we ordered the minestrone soup , the Panzarotti which was stuffed with ricotta and peppadews - it was slightly overcooked but the rich sauce made up for it. We also tried the fish and chips and that was a hit! The complimentary bread was fresh and melted in your mouth. Prices are pocket friendly.

I really like it here. The staff service is excellent. When we complained about the saltiness of the food they resolved it immediately. Very nice indeed. The Portugesa pizza is excellent. Definitely worth to come back!

During my visit to South Africa I visited Donatellas and loved the pasta I ordered and their selection of wine ...the portion was really huge and the ambience is really nice ...not to forget the very good cuatomer service

Had the chicken alredo fettuccine and fillet steak which was enjoyable but very basic. A good experience but not enough to return for a second visit.

Average. Fair offer of mains. Sorrento salad with chicken had too much lettuce. Regina classico pizza too close to microwave taste. Nice service, easy cheap parking. 10-15€/pax. One shot.

From the view to the the taste of the food, I cannot complain.<br/>It is really beautiful inside, the lighting, beautiful couches, and the service is great.<br/>I also enjoyed the way we were treated.<br/>We will definitely go back there.

We visit Donatellas about once a month. We come for the Portuguesa pizza - fresh seafood on the pizza.. not the usual frozen stuff. Same with the paella which is nice and saucy. Fresh oysters are great. The tiramisu is really nice - made with mascarpone, not cream. The kids usually have pasta which is always a winner and tasty. The dessert portions are big enough to share, especially after a large meal. Service varies. The staff and owners know us by now and it's always great when they go out of their way to greet us.

My favorite place to recommend in monte casino simply because there is something for everyone when it comes to a wide variety and reasonable prices. Service is always great. Has a great feel, like you sitting on the streets in Europe.

One of my favorite go to restaurants. A very wide choice of menu which includes delicious pizza and pasta, Mediterranean food, grills, seafood and stir fries. I usually opt for the Marsala chicken breast, Kingklip or lamb chops. Very attentive and friendly waiters and management team.

Fairly average. I had a yemen pastry which seemed extremely oily, but the pizza was good with a nice freshly made base. The waiter was really friendly; was able to make jokes and laugh, something that is pretty rare these days.<br/>Upon going to the restroom, the initial look of it was nice, almost had a French style, but having to use the toilet was gross. They were messy and the floors wet so not such pleasant experience there...

Good, but not great. It has a lovely setting, the decor is simplistic yet elegant. The menue really caters for all, from pizza and pasta to a bit of greek, seafood and something for the carnivores. But as thy say, jack of all trades master of none. All dishes were good but nothing that really said hello! I had the kuftas, the mince was really flavoursome but it was really dry, the tzatsiki was awesomly garlicky but still bit watery so not the right yoghurt.

We had a fantastic time! The restaurant was packed and still the service was quick and professional. We had the freshest, cleanest oysters ever! The springbok carpaccio was tender and we were surprised how well the sliced mushrooms went with it. We had the Mediterranean Kinglip and seared salmon, which was both cooked to perfection. All over a brilliant dinner and experience, thank you.

We have visited this restaurant twice in a period of 4 days! It was a Show on Thursday night and today we went to the very much disappointing holiday expo - done within a hour so off ventured to our fav eating place.  Since we are on a health kick and trying to avoid the heavy meals and no carbs we went back to Donatellas today - the healthy option on the menu were so great!  Today we had the mango/chicken salad and we were not disappointed.  On Thursday we had the Chicken breasts with Quinoa/Veg and Salad.  Steve was most accommodating, Ivo checked in on us regularly and no complaints with both waiters we had.   Thank you - we enjoyed both meals on both occassions.

Our hostess was OK.. We were 4 and wanted to sit by the couches there was a table and 2 we preferred the two table with kids however she was not too happy with that..we settled for the 1 table..next to us were 4 guests on 2 tables that annoyed me..our waiter was fabulous..the complimentary bread was AMAZING warm soft true comfort food..i had a starter portion of calamari and the portion size was great for a starter came with rice, the taste was average though..the pizza was rubbery and tasted like store bought base I was not impressed and couldn't even finish my slice..decor feels a bit old and needs some refreshing..

We decided to try Donatella's over all the other restaurants in Monte Casino as we thought that according to the menu it would be the restaurant to satisfy everyone's food cravings! The owner is great and very accommodating. We tried many different dishes of the menu. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, however I had the gnocchi and was disappointed. It was mostly tomato rather than any gnocchi at all. However, over all not an overwhelming experience but a good one nonetheless.

Hubby and i ventured out to Monte on a spontaneous date night which led us to Donatella's. What a romantic gem.<br/><br/>For starters we ordered the peri peri livers and a garlic foccacia. It was very flavorful However...the livers were a huge portion which only came with one piece of toasted bread.<br/><br/>The mains were seafood linguine and a seafood paella. Food is good but is is overshadowed by painfully slow service. Pity because if you have a large group it detracts from the important thing which is the food.

We went to watch a show a the theatre over the weekend and wanted to go for burgers (our favourite place was closed) so we landed up here :) to have some pizza and pasta.<br/><br/>The owner was very friendly as were his staff. We sat outside at a large table and the received very good service including complimentary focaccia. There is a great variety of vegetarian items on the menu. I ordered the ricotta panzerotti which was prepared in a not overly creamy but tasty napoletana sauce - which was a generous portion. Everyone at our table had a good meal.<br/><br/>The menu items are well priced for the quality of food. I will definitely be back in the near future to try the melezane pizza. If you ever in Monte casino I would recommend popping in for a hearty meal.

Donatella's is ideally located in Monte Casino close to the Pieter Toerien theatre. So if you are watching a show why not add dinner in as well.<br/><br/>Service was good, the waiter was there when we needed him. Our Food was really well prepared I had the Pollo alla Donatella and my partner the Salmon. Other people I was with did not particularly enjoy their meals. It has a great ambiance, perfect for dinner with a group of people.

I can't believe it been ages since going back here, I am definitely going to frequent more often. I loved my steak, cooked perfectly medium and here you get 2 sides. The ribs and lamb chops were also good. Service was prompt, friendly and also noted restaurant was busy for a Tuesday night. My little side salad as part of my sides had enough feta and olives and was not just a bowl of lettuce. Wine selection is good as it had my usual favourites. Menu is vast with loads of options and all the tables around us seemed happy. Sit inside as its very pretty with some hints of turquoise, golds, black and interesting chandeliers.

I walked past this restaurant for many years and never once thought about sitting down for a meal, until now. I am not sure why, but this time I did and I was pleasantly surprised. I decided on a light meal because we were going to watch a theatre show afterwards and I also did not want to have to deal with burps or farts while sitting and watching the show. I ordered their Chicken Livers which was prepared with wine, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and peri-cream sauce and served with olive ciabatta bread. <br/><br/>The livers tasted lovely and was not dry and the portion size was well worth the R65 price tag. The only criticism of this dish is that it was not creamy enough. It was more or a smoor.<br/><br/>Other than that, the restaurant looks beautiful and the service was good. I will go back for a three course meal sometime soon.

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Service was outstanding and the food was even better. Attention to detail is impeccable; I said something to my mom at the table about it being my birthday, and just when we asked for the bill, the waiter brought complementary ice cream. Definitely going back to try a lot more on the menu. Superb dining!

We had dinner at Donatella's and enjoyed everything they had to offer. I had the 300gr steak with Bacon, Mushroom and cheese sauce with stir fry and chips. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce complimented the meal. My wife had the prawn and calamari combo. Both the prawns and calamari was prepared perfectly. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. We highly recommend Donatella's if you should visit Monte Casino.

Lovely resturant! Decor is beautiful. Service is friendly and prompt. Everyone looked happy with their meals in the restaurant. We were 4 at our table, 3 of the 4 having pastas which everyone enjoyed. I had the starter mussels and calamari, both delicious. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu

The food was amazing. I had the peri-peri prawns as a starter. Too die for. My wife had the lemon butter prawns once again outstanding. My rare rump steak was at perfection. Steve made sure to cater to our personal tastes. Had a wonderful time.

Hits and misses here. Portions reasonable, flavour amazing for most of the menu. But old school Italian - very little effort on presentation which can go terribly wrong. Staff are also too blazey...the waitress rushed us and forgot the order and the chef got my steak wrong after returning it twice. Overall - not the place to try and impress, other places can definitely offer more wow for the same price range.

Clearly, service is the top priority here. Good service, good food, good portions and at great prices. My friend recently developed an oyster obsession and after seeing how reasonable the prices are here she demanded that we come for dinner. They all loved the oysters especially at the reasonable price. <br/><br/>I appreciate the great variety especially when it comes to vegetarian options as well as the wine selection. A group of friends and I stopped by Donatella's before our show. Lovely decor and friendly staff. We ordered a bottle of Durbanville Hills Merlot. We had a variety of meals, from the seafood linguine and traditional Alfredo to kudu fillet and sole. All our meals were prepared well and served warm. My only critique is that there are no cloth napkins only paper serviettes and the table for 4 was pretty cramped considering all the extra items and condiments.

Had a wonderful evening at Donatellos, Monte Casino. The Oxtail was superb- the meat fell right off the bone. Not to mention the service (thank you Steve) that was even better than the meal! Our waiter was very friendly and prompt with his service. <br/><br/>I ordered the haloumi starter. I'm not a big fan of haloumi but my girlfriend enjoys it so we got it to share. Not being a haloumi fan, wow - this was some good haloumi. Not oily or chalky. Definitely worth a try. <br/><br/>For my main I order sole with chips and stir fry veggies. Sole is my favourite fish but it's difficult to come by a restaurant that serves good quality seafood and harder to find good quality sole. <br/><br/>The main was outstanding. My sole was cooked perfectly. Perfectly seasoned and everything on the plate was amazing. A very good sized piece of fish as well. I was full after my main and couldn't even consider dessert. <br/><br/>Overall the food was amazing. The staff are very well trained and their service can't be faulted. The management are friendly and involved hands on from what I could see. Will definitely be back!

Donatella's in Montecasino is a little Italian gem and I was surprised the other evening at how beautiful the interiors are with decadent lighting and colorful art pieces. <br/><br/>Met a friend here for an early bite to eat and catch up before a show the other evening, and I could not have been more impressed with both my service and traditional cheesy lasagne. Think layers of pasta, Bolognaise, Parmesan cheese, béchamel, garlic and mozzarella cheese. Had an early valentines dinner here tonight. Service and food was top notch. The waiter and manager kept on checking if we were okay. Food was fresh, prepared quick and tasty. Had the Masestro pizza and chicken schnitzel and haloumi for starters. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Servings were large. Will be back to try the other options on the menu.

You can't go wrong with them. I've tried many if their dishes and the last time we were there we tried peri peri chicken livers, lamp chops, oysters and seafood platter. The oyesters were fresh and properly served with lemon. The lamp chop werent really medium rare but they fixed it. The seafood platter was awesome with calamari heads and prawns. Highly recommended.

Great atmosphere. Great service. Best meal this fussy eater had in an extremely long time. I would recommend the oven baked lamb, or the beef Vima.

Had a lovely dinner here tonight. Don't come to Johannesburg at all however during my one night stop I stayed at the Palazzo Montecasino and chose to have dinner one of the many fabulous restaurants at Montecasino. I had hake with Marsh and veg. It's was delicious and fresh.

What a beautiful restaurant and excellent service ... had a fantastic chicken liver and calamari as starters. mains i choose combo sirlon and prawns ... I felt only one thing that the peri peri taste has been changed slightly but still not bad . .!! Perfect place for a fantastic meal... will be back soon... !!

Another great italian spot. A bit pricey though, and  I'd  stick to their pastas only. <br/>I was underwhelmed by their other food items .<br/>If you get an outside seat you will be serenaded by the live band that plays on the corner usually .

Absolutely love this place! Always busy, friendly service, great food.. a large variety.. the set up is modern and vintage at the same time.. friendly management.. I love that there's such a large variety of vegetarian food! It is within monte casino which is an even bigger plus point! Always love eating here!

Donatella's is fantastic, their food is amazing and the service is good. Great location and atmosphere in the restaurant as well. Definitely a 10/10!

I haven't been to Donatella's in years but I had a craving for pasta so we visited. Had the chicken Alfredo fettuccine (with penne tho;-))...I enjoyed it but wish it had more cheese or more salt...something was missing.

The private dining area upstairs has an intimate feel and overlooks the below restaurant. If you are looking for a venue to host private events, this area is perfect. Had a lovely evening, with great service and fast expediting of food (considering the weekend crowds of Monte Casino as the restaurant was bustling with guests. Thank you Paris & team! After reading the great reviews of Donatellas on Zomato I had to go. Everything from service, starters to mains I could not fault. The calamari starter, mushroom & halloumi skewers and best of all Portuguesa pizza is a must try.

Great restaurant! Love the atmosphere - brings me back to Italy! Great food! Great service!! Portions are pretty generous, and the staff is very accomodating. <br/>Definitely a must try!!

Excellent meal enjoyed by all! The sangria was very nice, not too sweet and fruity. Great menu - something for everyone. One of the best pasta meals I've ever had. Will be back!

Had chicken with cheese sauce and avo, was very tasteful. My partner had peri peri prawns that were also delicious. Well priced. Fanatstic wine list. Manager was very friendly. Waitors were not that friendly but we received decent service. Overall we had a great night.

Had such a lovely evening here! <br/><br/>On arrival we were promptly greeted and asked where we wanted to sit. Friendly and quickly. <br/><br/>We could not decid on what wine to have, as the list was rather impressive so instead we decided to try the sangria. BUT to was white wine sangria ( we were warned) and it was absolutely divine! Rather sweet, but perfect. Such a good drink choice. <br/><br/>The starters are huge- so much so that it could be a main in my opinion. My mum had the black mushrooms and snails which she said we're divine but very rich, and could not finish the portion. I had the calamari- literally mouth watering and would go back just for it. <br/><br/>For mains my mom ordered the calamari ad my starter was so divine and I had one of the best seafood pastas I have had in years! (I had it with the creamy based sauce). <br/><br/>We shared a lovely creme brulee, it was divine. <br/><br/>I am so impressed with this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone.

We had a great dinner here everything was pretty good, the pita they bring is a must and the wine is always good here.<br/>I had a seafood platter for one which was very delious the the services was great.

This restaurant I visit every 3 weeks.  Why do you ask?  Because each member of the family chooses a restaurant each week and my son choose this one most of the time when it’s his turn.  Now, it is a typical Italian restaurant with the typical Italian dishes.  Having been there a few times now you and can report on the following: -<br/>The waiters are really not good.  We once received our drinks the same time as the starters came and once I had to leave half of my starter because my main was already waiting for me.  I think this is bad bad timing. I also once placed our order for food and when I was done the waiter said ‘okay can I take your order’. Not sure who he thought I was talking to for 5 minutes long as I was looking straight at him.  First you get a drink, a short while later you should get your starter and a short while later you should get your main.  I also absolutely cannot stand it when I am busy eating and my wine glass is empty and I can’t find the waiter anywhere.  There seem to be ‘managers’ standing in front to greet the customers but that is where they always are, never do I see them walking around checking if things are okay.  Has anyone seen the managers at Fishmonger Illovo?  They are basically staring at the tables making sure dishes get removed and if it even slightly looks like you are screening for a waiter they are on top of you!  This is how it is done.<br/>The food here is inconsistent, then I get really good snails with a nice sauce then it is crappy then good again.  What is consistent is the ‘oven baked lamb’ dish and the bread they give at the beginning of the meal.  The lamb is really flavourful and it melts in your mouth.  Then you get the waiter that hears chips after you said mash and then you are annoyed again.<br/>I will most probably be back unless I can convince my son otherwise.  I’ll stick with the lamb just to be safe.<br/>I’m rating 3 although I have rated other better restaurants also a 3.  It is merely because 2.5 seems a tad to low and unfair as the lamb dish is really nice.<br/>PS: don’t try the ice cream and chocolate sauce as my 8 year old refused to eat his as he said the chocolate sauce was awful.

Had a Donatella pasta, fantastico! The prego chicken, tender, nice and spicy. All that for a fair price! Bravo! Restaurant is on a " secondary road" in Monty so watch out for it!

Finally a chef that knows blue rear. This eatery was amazing. Cocktails, my kudu steak and our service. <br/>I'd highly recommend before a show or to wind down. But, reservations are esencial.

Popped in here for a quick dink before a show. The service was a bit slow. We had pasta and the surf and turf. Food wasn't the best it all we've had.

Met some friends for dinner tonite at this lovely Italian restaurant. The food was awesome,the ambience was lovely & their service was excellent. Everyone in party had a great meal. There was a few vegetarian options aswell which is quite unique.

Food and service was good. Their menu had a fair amount of vegetarian dishes. Tried the cannelloni, was pretty good. Love the decor of this restaurant.

My partner took me out for a great dinner at Donatella's that surpassed my expectations. What a beautiful setting with friendly, informative staff and amazing food. This was a lovely fine dining experience that I absolutely loved! For starters we had cocktails which were super tasty paired with fresh tasty oysters. My partner got the oven baked lamb whilst I opted for the seafood platter for 1 for our mains which was done to perfection! We unfortunately were too full for dessert :( but we will definitely be back soon!

Wanted to try something new before a night at the theatre and I went through all the menus of the places at Montecasino. Donatella's looked pretty impressive so we decided to join them for dinner.<br/><br/>Upon arrival it didn't look too busy, but it was still fairly early for dinner (7pm). They have a smoking section (who knew!) and their decor really lights up the restaurant.<br/><br/>Their waiting staff were really friendly - and we never waited long for food. The bread rolls that we received were unfortunately not fresh.<br/><br/>I started off with a cocktail which was great. Then we shared the Halloumi and the Grilled Calamari starters.<br/><br/>For mains I had the saucy mushroom steak with mash and stir-fry veg, and my friend had the Alfredo Chicken Penne. Both meals were fantastic and the portions were on point.<br/><br/>Rad little pre-theatre dinner spot indeed.

Nice Italian spot in Monte Casino, where there are an abundance of worldly tastes. They offer a great selection of pizzas and pastas, and good service.

I've been there numerous times now and have not once been disappointed. The setting and food is absolutely fantastic!!<br/><br/>The food is prepared timeously and tastes absolutely fantastic, no matter what you order This is usually not the case for restaurants with so many options on their menu. However, Donatella's seem to nail everything that we've ever ordered.<br/><br/>If you're a person that likes pizza, you should definitely order one if you do go there. They're fantastic.<br/><br/>Service is sometimes questionable, depending on who your server is, but for me, the number of times with good service outweighs the times with bad service.<br/><br/>All-in-all a great, affordable restaurant with a huge menu and above average service.

I had high expectations , based on my previous experience at Donatellas. The pizza and pasta arrived cold, and wasn't as yummy as I hopped for it to be. The only thing I can rave about , was the crem brûlée ... I ordered the gnocchi Arrabiata - the pasta tasted frozen and heavy , the sauce tasted canned and lacked the Italian touch.. Very disappointing ... The dessert was extremely yummy !!!

Our waiter was really friendly. We went there for lunch so luckily there wasnt many people. The atmosphere is good and romantic, perfect for a lunch or dinner date. <br/>Our food came quick and it was really yummy. <br/>Overall this restaurant gave me a good impression and will definitely come back!

Some food some not so good<br/><br/>I went to donantala yesterday with family let's start with the not so good. They put 4 of us in a small singal table. Where I had to insist on a bigger table . After refusing us twice they finally added a table ( and it was not like there was no tables available )<br/><br/>We ordered a margarita with pine and feta , a garlic fucashia, a panzaroti a arabiyata as well as a prawn and calamari platter<br/><br/>I'm gonna rather them out of 10<br/><br/>The pizza was ur average good run off the mill it wasn't bad it was good 6<br/><br/>The fuchsia crusty defiantly better out there 3<br/><br/>The panzaroti was really really good one of the best Iv had 10<br/> The arabiyata was good too 8<br/><br/>The prawn and calamari platter was good 7 prawns where a bit over done but the calamari was perfect <br/><br/>Over all if not for the seating issue it was pretty good my advice is say u 2 more people then u actually are it is one of the better restaurants at Monte casino so if you do go there and want some good food check it out <br/> <br/><br/>

It's easy to overlook Donatella's as it is tucked away in a rather obscure corner of Montecasino, however this little gem is definitely one of the better restaurants in the complex. I've visited Donatella's a few times over the years and have yet to be disappointed, their seafood dishes are particularly good. <br/><br/>Although Donatella's classifies itself as an Italian restaurant I would say their cuisine is more Mediterranean, as Spanish, Portuguese and even Greek dishes grace their menu. This newly renovated restaurant has a great ambience especially on weekends, when there's usually a basker positioned nearby to serenade diners.

Came here tonight to have dinner and what a wonderful experience eating here. Food was amazing and served in record time. Waitress was very friendly and overall I would recommend this restaurant

Food is great and is served very hot and quickly after ordering. Service was ok. Generally a good time out and decent value for money. Will definitely be back.

Been eating here for many years, always enjoy my meal, and makes for a great family outing. The steaks are amazing and they are known for their pizzas too.

My favorite thing about this restaurant is the gorgeous big terquoise leather couch! The halloumi starter was great, piping hot and cheese was soft, not hard and rubbery. The pasta dishes are generous and delicious. Good wine and coffee too. Our waitress, Ruth was so sweet and service was quick. What a lovely evening.

I recently indulged in restaurant hopping. It is quite the night because you sample many restaurants in a matter of hours. It is a must try! One of the places I went to was Donatella's at Montecasino. They are rather busy on a Saturday night but due to the fact that they have an upstairs section and a downstairs section, there is more than enough room. We managed to get an upstairs table and it almost feels as if you are in a VIP section. The restaurant has a contemporary theme, consisting of mostly black and white decor. They have magnificent overhanging lighting and widespread mirrors that gives the restaurant a sophisticated touch. <br/><br/>This place is definitely a family favourite as you can see scattered families having a jolly time. They have a wide variety to choose from which means no matter what your craving may be, you will be satisfied. They make sure that you have more than enough food to eat. The aesthetics of the restaurant really comes together and exerts an atmosphere which ensures that one has a superb evening.

Perfect seafoods, perfect meat! <br/>Ate prawn&calamari plate. It was so delicious, cheap and big plate. Like 125 rand!<br/>Ordered Nederburg Rose wine= 99 rand! It is nothing for this kind of wine. <br/>Love it!<br/>Good service&good staff.

All the crockery and cutlery was dirty and full of old food. Service is terrible. In accordance with Montecasino's quality, it is not up to par.
