Review The Raj - Johannesburg

Mohammed Abubakar
The Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg is the largest cable-stayed bridge in South Africa. The 284m-long bridge connects two significant business areas: Braamfontein and Newtown. The bridge starts at the end of Jan Smuts Avenue and links Braamfontein at Constitutional Hill and Newtown in the heart of the city. The 176m-long bridge carries two traffic lanes, a bicycle path and two pedestrian walkways, each 1.5m wide. The walkways feature continuous glass parapet for the safety of pedestrians. Steel brackets support the walkways.

I've been walking through that bridge, for some time now, and I have to say that it's safe and secure, it just needs to be refurbished

...only safer if you travelling in a vehicle, avoid walking due to high risk of street thugs that can pounce unaware.

This bridge is still so beautiful plus I enjoyed it properly when I did the 702 walk without cars, you can see JHB CBD nicely from the bridge.

Standard amount of security to insure safety against nyaope boys, quite scary if your afraid of heights. Beautiful atmosphere at night.

The bridge is really beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. One can take great pictures with the city of Johannesburg view. It lits up colors of rainbow at night and it’s really one of the striking Johannesburg attractions. The bridge spans the railway tracks which seperate Newtown and Braamfontain neighborhood in the Johannesburg city Centre . It is actually the largest cable stayed bridge in Southern Africa.

The iconic Nelson Mandela bridge over park station, one of the proud architecture of the Johannesburg metro. The bridge links Braamfontein to the Johannesburg city, there are other bridges linking the city but this bridge is special, not only because of the name but its architecture and what it represent, its a testament to the resilience of this nation and it bridges the peace in the post-apartheid South Africa. This bridge has to be seen after sunset when the colourful lights lis-up the bridge and the Johannesburg skylines in the backdrop, It's hard to Trump this spectacle.

This is the bridge that connects Braamfontein and the Johannesburg central business district. This bridge is named by the name of the icon of our struggle Tata Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela.
