Review Restaurant Vilakazi - Johannesburg

I had the mince pasta, it was very good. A nice atmosphere but the 'car guards' are rather pushy!

Great introduction to South African food whilst visiting Soweto. Staff are friendly and attentive, the owner wanted to make sure everything was ok. There’s something on the menu for everyone, so if you’ve got picky kids then they can still eat well while you try something local. Worth a visit.

Awesome experience. Very tasty food. Recommend stopping there if in the area. Do not be afraid to go out of your comfort zone and try something interesting on the menu.

I can’t really rate based on a sit down experience since we ordered take away. By far the best plate of mogodu and uJeqe. We usually interchange between the restaurants on Vilakazi but this plate right here is the winner👇🏽Special mention goes to the spinach, it was sublime.

Traditional African and restaurant food. Friendly service, spacious. Clean and trendy.

Newly established SUD restaurant. Beautiful place with a great ambience amd quality sound. The deep house DJ lineup was out of this world. A silly highlight for me was the 2 ply toilet paper in the bathroom, lol😁👌 ! Looking forward to more of Judy Jay's events at the venue.

The place was friendly and welcome, the manager also came to our table to greet. The food prices are very affordable. The only downside is the delay from the kitchen and the disappearance of the waiters for a long time. Maybe they were short staffed and the place was full that night.

Used to be called Nambitha’s and was always great so thought we should go back and get lunch after a long time of not visiting. Still a nice vibey place, it was a bit busy. This said to me that it was still a great place. However, service was slow.... food took over an hour and we got charged for a drink we did not have. Some stuff to work on:
Waiter training in relation to customer service. They need some energy and need to learn customer connection. People go there to spend money so some knowledge on upselling or suggestive selling.
Speed of service- food could come out faster- where is the bottleneck- people don’t want to wait that long for food especially if they are with kids.
Product quality- my sister ordered a medium steak and got dry well over done. My daughter ordered chowmein and it had very little soy sauce and very blend. The rest of the food was just average.

This place could be amazing! You have a great location so add a great experience and you will soar.
Good luck guys

Restaurant Vilakazi is one of the sophisticated restaurants in the most popular street in Soweto. It has a certain ambience that I can't put my finger on. On to the food, I was there with a friend. I had Mogodu with samp and some vegetables. It was a beautiful combination but the samp was rather dry. My friend had rump steak with vegetables, she requested that the steak be medium to well but that wasn't the case. But the meal was good and the ambience was on another level.

Took German visitor to Vilakazi street on sight seeing your.
Went to Vilakazi restaurant for lunch.
Wine list was very limited so we settled for water.
We ordered the vegetarian platter- rice, mash, mushroom, spinach, butternut, stir-fry and chakalaka.
Chicken breast grilled with lemon and butter.
Could not resist going traditional- boerwors chargrilled, served with pap, chakalaka and spinach.
Very reasonably priced at under R100
Service started out unfriendly and turned quite pleasant.
We were serenaded by four local lads with very pleasing voices. As South Africans we were only mildly impressed but our overseas guest was enthralled.
Can imagine quite a buzz when busy

Lovely and relaxed place to come on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I came with a couple friends & we enjoyed our time and food there. I ordered the oxtail which tasted like home - it was absolutely delicious. Overall good service and I would definitely come back again!

Pretty looking restaurant but the food is an absolute shame! Ordered 500g ribs and I received 4 riblets, I asked the waiter if that was 500g and with an attitude said yes. I asked her to call the manager, he took one look and realized that the portion was far less than 500g, he corrected this and brought it back cold. Terrible experience and not worth the money I paid!

I always have an awesome time when I come here the food is just cooked tee. This past weekend I ordered the samp, roast chicken that come with a creamed spinach and sweet pumpkin. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and I'd recommend this restaurant over all the other restaurants on vilakazi street....It's underrated.

My husband had the ox liver with dumpling and I had mogodu with pap, chakalaka and spinach! Let's just say my day was made. Great service and even better food. You will be definately be seeing me again, maybe this time with 2 kids in tow for Sunday lunch!

I finally went to Vilakazi Street, for a friend's birthday dinner. I probably set my expectations too high and was a bit disappointed by the experience as a whole. The food was good, no doubt and the service friendly and quick. However there was no vibe, which is really what one expects here, no?The prices are also catered to foreign tourists it seems. I can stay in Braamfontein or Rosebank and enjoy a cheaper meal and beers at the same quality.

This is the perfect place to come to if you're craving some good african food. The food was lovely but the service was a bit slow in the beginning.

Lovely African restaurant. Started off with the BBQ wings while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. They were tasty and sticky with sauce, very succulent and flavourful. For mains in opted for the Lamb stew served with dumpling and two hot veggies. The meal tasted really good, it was rich with African flavour and was good enough to bring up childhood memories and ignite good conversation. Would definitely go back there!!
