Review The Grind Coffee Company - Johannesburg

David Smythe
A great spot to observe the fashions and the high end motor vehicles passing bye. A multi utility spot with bike shop, remote working stations and coffee shop. All of the staff are friendly and passionate about their customers welfare. There are multiple levels, plenty of seating and even showers. A great experience and a unique atmosphere.

Loved it here! The staff is very friendly and helpful! The food is really good, the coffee is very good, we had a peanut smoothie bowl, the salted caramel smoothie and eggs Benedict. We sat at the working desks on the upper floor. Perfect place to sit and work too. We will definitely be back! Great place, you guys can be proud!

Stayed over the road for the night and wanted somewhere different for breakfast. We had walked passed the grind the night before and were a bit sceptical as it was inside a bicycle shop. Our worry was that it may be an after thought or not as good because their focus may be on bicycles. That didn't matter at all. It is a very good, stand alone restaurant and coffee shop. The coffee was superb and the food was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. The salted caramel smoothie was delicious!

Home to great Cappuccino and Chai Latte to die for! A chilled and relaxed atmosphere.

Walked in here for breakfast and coffee on a chilly morning. The staff are excellent and make you feel right at home. We had cauliflower wings, eggs and avocado croissant - they were super delicious. Would definitely visit again!

My new fav coffee spot in Melrose Arch! Great coffee that is expertly brewed and presented. Awesome space. Delicious menu. Great value for money. Brilliant as a coffice space with boardrooms to rent and desk space too! Easy space for your bike to park across the street makes it great for my needs too.

The Grind Coffee Company @melrosearch.This place is so beautiful and gorgeous. The decor is amazing. It has downstairs and upstairs. It also has amazing board rooms were you can have your meetings. They also offer well balanced meals including healthy meals. Their Cappuccino was so good. @thegrindza

Had heard a lot about the coffee in a cone. Gimmicky? You best believe is but with a full flavoured espresso it could not be faulted..A delectable delight of quality coffee and finished off with some rich chocolate. Colleagues had capuccino and were equally pleased. Tip don't eat the cone until you are Done with your coffee. Will be back to try coffee in a cup and I'm confident that I'll not be disappointed.

Great food and beautiful restaurant with friendly staff. Good variety of vegetarian and vegan food.

This place is delightful. What a find. Apart from anything else, the food and the coffee are amazing…. The vibe is perfect - relaxing and chilled…
Given Selepe
Amazing place. Love the ambiance and the food. Also have vegan muffins which are to die for. I also love the cycle shop . It’s like a candy store.
Robert Uys
Cool setting (inside a cycling shop). Good coffee. Somewhat overpriced but that seems to be the trend amongst coffee places in Johannesburg. Easy and comfortable setting.

I love to go to The Grind with my friends to catch up with some coffee and their healthy and veg options. Food is yummy. They have vegan option, too. 😋❤️. I highly recommend it.

Apart from restrooms that are never clean, the place is definitely a gem. Good food, good coffee
Andrea Junge
Delicious food! Quick service! And such a cool vibe, love coming here to work ☺️

Great Service, the staff are very friendly and always take pride in their craft... Great Coffee always and worth every drop!!! Highly recommended!!!

Awesome coffee in a different way! Very friendly service!

Cafe with good service, tasty menu options, great coffee and smoothies
Kevin Naidoo
Just a really great place, great people and a good place, with proper work stations (a boardrooms if you need some privacy). Menu is predominantly vegan, which is fantastic for those inclined. A well thought out menu with lots of quality, love it because it's also quite healthy.
Nevolan Reddy
Quite and interesting and quaint little place. Easy to miss if you not looking for it. Once inside you get the smell of really good coffee. The magic happens when you have that coffee or even a got chocolate in a cone. And you really need not add sugar as the chocolate from the cone flavours the coffee. Great idea and great execution...remember, 45 degrees is key.
Kate Marriott
Just got takeaway cappuccinos & they are the yummiest I have ever tasted! Thanks for making this random chilly day way better!
Patricia Hutchison
I absolutely loved the coffee in a cone. the staff were phenomenal and made me feel so welcome. definitely worth it!!!
Nikhil ॐ Solanki
Nice small cafe. Only go for the coffee in a cone. Unique. The tea was lovely. The place is quite small but there is a seating area outside in the lovely Melrose Arch streets.
Lynette Penny
Great decor, loved my reusable Coffee cup, made of glass, came with a great latte too, will def be using it for a long time.
Mandy Heyman
What GREAT coffee , what a brilliant concept !! Just added to my return experience to SA !!! Am back in Canada n suggesting to all "returning" to go to The Coffee Grind !!!
Anna Suzzi Surmon
Amazing coffee ☕️ in a chocolate coated sugar cone and fabulous service too! Thank you!
Paige Lacroix
Great service, amazing coffee and the banana bread is to die for
Rochelle Starr Singram
It was an amazing experience - loved the coffee in cone. Also situated at one of my favourite places Melrose Arch so I will be back

I just started working near the Grind and the coffee is awesome. A must try. # bucket list.
Zaidi Sabtu-Ramli
Had my first Matcha Cone and an awesomazing bowl of Acai..!! Totally value for money...
Anthea Smith
Had to try the "most photographed coffee on instagram" and I certainly was NOT disappointed. Loved the decor, the coffee and the experience.

Best ☕️ in South Africa- period. The number of Cyclists 🚴 there says it all😀
Elijah Dajn Djan
#magicgrind Theee best coffee I have ever had. This may very well convert me to a coffee person
Baron Marshall
Very impressed with the Coffie and that gluten free banana bread... I will be back for more!
Anastasia Vorisek
Best coffee in JHB!
Loveroffood
We decided to do coffee hopping (going to different coffee shops in one day within the area) and this was definitely one of the top ones. Tried all the options there and all I’m saying if you like coffee like I do, you will keep going back every time you in the area. the only downer is that they close early. But I mean it’s okay :)
Tarryn
nice to have something different....a small coffee shop that you can pop into and get great coffee. I had coffee in a cone, very tasty but not for people who like a big cup of coffee, it's more like an espresso shot
Little Miss Rabbit 🐇
Great coffee must try!! Coffee in a Cone!! Cappuccino and Matcha ☕️ gets valuable for money with this option. The coffee shop is situated in a cycling store with creative decor
Mukhtar Dharsey
Interesting concept store. Cycling and coffee. Just tried out their basic cappuccino and not the coffee in a cone. Great tasting and quality coffee. Not particularly happy with the service received behind the counter though, hence the average score from me. Small venue with limited seating outside, a few outside tables complement the venue.
Ashley Krige
Great from start to finish! Loved the enthusiasm of the employees and the relaxed vibe. I really enjoyed the coffee in a cone, never seen or had that before and it was delicious. The smoothie bowls also tasted great.
Kylie Jade Botes
The coffee is fantastic, tasty and nice and strong. I had a cappuccino in a cone. I wouldn't add sugar as there is a delicious amount of chocolate coating the cone and at the bottom. It's fun and tasty to nibble on the cone
Prasantha Bisetty
Finally had my coffee in a cone!! I like how chilled and laid back the place is. The cone definately needs a second shot of coffee, but I loved the idea and the experience. Also tried the sweet potato brownie, it was way to dry for me.
Theresekruger01
Amazing coffee in cone, covered with chocolate on the inside. Cycling atmosphere with friendly staff. Quick stop shop for a morning chocolate coffee during a bike ride
Renata Kara
Cute quirky coffee place ... had an express but later only saw this interesting concept of coffee/cappuccino/hot chocolate in a cone ... definitely going to try the next time ... looks really yummy <br/>Expresso was different from usual places must be the type of coffee used ... enjoyed it thoroughly waiters were alert and in the go ... lively<br/>Vibe will be back
FatCake101
Very unique shop, I love the idea of the coffee in a cone. Even the cone itself tasted amazing with the chocolate melted inside. Definitely will be back again.
Marcio Lopes
Stopped by to see what all the fuss was about. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The coffee in a cone works out really nicely as a dessert. Felt cheated that soy is +8 and almond milk +10 (given that realistically probably only 30ml milk fits into the cone, after coffee)
Decclan Lawrence
The cone was delicious, the cappuccino on the other hand was very unbalanced but that's to be expected from the volume of the cone. The cone was extremely interesting and the chocolate was tasty.
Ameera Sackoor
Such a cute place, a little small and easy to miss it is inside a cycle store. But cozy, chilled vibes, friendly people. All in all a pleasant visit
Talia Lee Cohen
This Açia bowl I will come for every morning when I'm in town! 😬 their strawberry bowl is good too! And even better is their display of healthy type treats (gluten- & sugar-free brownies, chickpea fudge, sweet potato cookies...). Personally I found their espresso to have a slight burnt sweetness but the cappuccino is good!
The Hungry Blonde
Definitely worth the trip. <br/>The chocolate in the cone is on it's own incredible the genius behind this concoction deserves some other kind of award. <br/>The coffee was packed with flavor and had the perfect strong coffee to milk ratio. <br/>The store itself is a bit easy to miss if you're not paying attentions however if you as determined as I am for a perfectly instagramable coffee then you will locate it. <br/>Tucked away in the entrance of a bicycle shop, adds to the gorgeous decor of the store. <br/>Extremely friendly staff making you feel super at home.
Robyn Hewitt
One of the best coffee shops around! Their signature #coffeeinacone is a delightful combination of chocolate and coffee. My matcha green tea latte in a cone was also great - they even brought me the rest of the latte in a small jug to fill up my cone as I went. The breakfast smoothie bowls are massive and full of flavor! Their acai berry bowl fares well in comparison to the original treat in Brazil. I will be back to try the other options they have to offer!
Samantha Walker
Love the coffee in a cone idea! Really good coffee and a unique concept! Very small space so it's understandable that the menu is limited. Staff could be a bit more welcoming and friendly.
Diana Mak
I was a bit disappointed with this coffee in a cone. I've heard so much rave about it and finally decided to try it. Ordered a cappuccino & when I had it the coffee was very strong (and not a lot) ... the cone was coated heavily with chocolate so that it doesn't break - so it was quite hard to eat it.
Melani Leigh
Visited Grind today for the first time, this place is totally out of my way as I live in Alberton but with all the hype on social media I made the drive. Only to be served the most disgusting and appalling service and attitude from the barista. He was extremely argumentative and condescending towards me. I did not mention it to management as I did not feel like a scene, left a very bitter taste in my mouth, the barista that was on duty at around 12pm-12:30 today
Tamlyn Pillay
Hot chocolate in a cone , is always good here :). I tried the matcha latte today, it was okay and average didnt enjoy the cinnamon sprinkle with it though.
Fabio Chieregati Passarelli
I don't understand how people can really like this place and rate it low.<br/><br/>There is no kitchen, but there are snacks to have with your coffee. The ambiance is great. Service is very friendly. The espresso here is consistently amazing. Rich and sweet. I've had the espresso on a cone a few times as well, and it's amazing. Cappuccino is good as well, but I prefer not to add milk to such a great blend!<br/><br/>I used to go on a daily basis. Unfortunately I'm no longer in the area. Open a shop in Clearwater Mall! =)
The Cutlery Chronicles
Great coffee and smoothie bowls. Was disappointed that they did not have any of their healthy banana bread at 9am on a Saturday morning as this was the reason I was stopping by. Will have to try and make the trip again some other time in the hope of trying the banana bread and almond butter.
Simon Spurr
Great coffee, with a nice selection of different variations. The banana bread is a must, served with macadamia nut butter. Great place in summer to sit outside in the morning
Grant & Sam
The coffee is quite good - strong yet smooth. The cone is a novelty we wouldn't repeat; we like the idea, but the chocolate lining is quite sweet and there's a lot of it. <br/>Friendly service and pleasing-to-the-eye decor.
Rachelle
I have been dying to try the coffee in a cone concept. I took a friend from the States with me. She had the Matcha which she wasn't impressed with and I had the cappuccino. It was delicious but there needs to be a free refill for the coffee not only the tea. I will return. I was surprised to see if was in a cycling store. The next time I am definately going to get coffee and check out the store!
Nicole Vermeulen
One of the most disappointing experiences I have had in a long time. <br/>Ordered 2 cappuccinos in a cone ( what Grind is internationally famous for)<br/>I was happy to pay the inflated price due to the hype.<br/>We had received one cone and then was told, very unapologetically, they were out of stock.<br/>No refund was offered and we had to request to be refunded to which we received attitude. <br/>If you are known for a certain speciality on your menu then you should be stocked to meet demand.<br/>The attitude of the staff ruined the experience.<br/>Coffee was average, but cone delicious.
Deepa Daya
Heard alot about #coffeeinacone so I had to try it out. I must say it's overpriced and overrated. There's approximately 2 sips of coffee in the cone and it's an absolute mission to eat. I'd prefer to stick to my #coffeeinacup.
Tam Loves Food
This store is located inside a cycling shop. Really lovely coffee and iced coffee available and an unusual concept with fun decor. I wasn't too taken by any of the pastries on offer as they were very healthy, but this is probably a pro for most people frequenting this place!
Kineta Hari
The entire experience of having coffee in a cone is awesome. Not many people enjoy coffee that was. Some enjoy it room temperature, one down and out. But if you one to sit and experiment the experience. You should try it.
Glynn Allen
Solid cup of coffee and great service. Nice place to just go and chill, especially if you enjoy cycling. Would give it a higher rating if there were more food options though.
Claudia McGregor
I love the whole concept of coffee in a cone! The cone was delicious just a pity the coffee was really terrible. Not sure what went wrong today but I will give it another try for that cone!
Raine Alexis Sterley
Nope. Nope nope nope nope. Just, nope. Overpriced, undersized, bad coffee. I would much rather walk on over to Naked coffee and have a cuppa, at least their staff make people smile and the coffee is worth it.
Sally Downie
So everyone likes something new and coffee in a cone is a brilliant idea & as I had been before I thought I should treat my son - the cones are small but chocolate and cone are amazing, coffee understandably cool rather than warm .. BUT today I was outraged that I ordered coffee in a takeaway size cup but sat down only to receive a thimble size cup of luke warm coffee and to add to this there was no sign on the banana bread which I discovered they were charging R30 a slice for .. I do realise it is Melrose Arch but felt taken advantage of with these prices and the size of my coffee .. I have giant slices of cake elsewhere for R40 so do feel this is unacceptable for banana bread .. soooo disappointed !
Irfaan
Great coffee spot part of a cycling store. Menu has an extensive list of the different coffees. The coffee is absolutely spot on. They are famous for the coffee in a cone, which is really just coffee in a chocolate coated cone - cool concept. They also have a few snacks and smoothies on the menu. If you're in the area and in need of a an excellent cup of coffee, this is the place.
Abdullah Mahamed
This place is just beautiful. Located in melrose arch inside/near a bike store. They flaunt their take on a coffee. What's amazing about it is that it's filled in a chocolate coated sugar cone. Literally coffee in a cone. I guess it's perfect because it goes in like with recycling because once you're done with your coffee you can just eat your 'cup'
Raeesa_e
Coffee in a cone !! Or my version -- hot chocolate in a cone -- aside from the quantity being too small -- i love the concept !! The cone is lined with the most perfect chocolaty chocolate.. chocoholics will rejoice !! I initially found Grind a bit difficult to locate (it inside the cycle store) but once you know.. you will never forget, guess its like riding a bike haha:)
Fatima Kamrudin Mamod
Wow wow wow..my favourite things all in one coffee, chocolate, sugar cone...need I say more..u have to go try this its fabulous absolutely loved it..you will not regret..
TheVisualFox
Coffee in a chocolate ice cream cone - that is all! Great coffee and a lonely spot for meetings - order tea or get a health drink! The shop is in a bike store and super trendy.
Pascale Prinsloo
Pure magic concept for anyone looking for something unique and trendy in Joburg. Coffee in a cone was delicious can definitely say I will be back for more .<br/><br/>Ps:It's open early 7:30 be there before the queues <br/><br/>Yours truly <br/>Coffee and chocolate addict <br/><br/>#ImNotRecoveringAnyTimeSoon<br/>#BornThisWay
Neelaм
I liked the coffee in a cone concept but it's not really practical. You have to gulp down the coffee so that the cone doesn't get soggy and leak. Didn't even really get a chance to decide if I enjoyed the coffee so for R40 I'm not really convinced that it's worth it.
Christiaan Strydom
Really good coffee in a chocolate covered waffle cone, something to really get excited about!<br/><br/>Id definitely go back really soon Johann Rossouw
Rachelle Walsh
Fantastic coffees, from delicious cappuccinos to awesome draught coffee. Their gluten free banana bread with almond butter is definitely a must have!
Binita Mistry
My husband visited The Grind a while back and was one of the first to try their specialty of Coffee in a Cone. He kept raving about it and finally I got to try it out myself last week. The guys serving us were super awesome and even remembered my husband. The Coffee in a Cone was so good. At R40 a pop it is pricey but so worth it.
Jenny Louw
I'm not a coffee lover but when I went along with friends I was intrigued by their coffee in a cone- which was quite good. The service and branding is great.
Annie Hodes
Next to the Fire & Ice hotel, this gem of a spot does the best banana bread and honey and has amazing coffee, highly recommended and the banana bread, muffins and sandwiches are kosher too
Stacey Norsworthy
Absolutely love the concept of this place, coffee in a cone has surely taken off and made these guys famous. The machiatto in a cone was devine. The cones are lines with a thick layer of absolutely to die for chocolate. Would love to go back and try the hot chocolate in a cone. They also have a fridge where you can pick up some Paul's homemade ice-cream, or some fresh fruit & veg juices. <br/>Be sure to post your pics to instagram and hashtag the appropriate #'s to get your photo printed on their in-store printer.
Kev0's Food Adventures!
So I thought why not try the new coffee In a cone craze? Cappuccino in a chocolate sugar cone 😋 Not quite a full cup of coffee but it's def worth a try!
Kyla Meyerson
The Grind is a vibey place to hang out any day of the week. The coffee in the cone is a unique idea and something fun to enjoy with friends.
Azrah Kadwa
The grind coffee company is famous for its Gourmet "Coffee in a cone" drink. There are 4 Flavors to choose from such as Cappuccino , Double Espresso Shot , Hot Chocolate & a Matcha Latte that is served in a cone centered with rich milk chocolate. I had the Cappuccino which had a taste of roastiness and mild hints of chocolate. Strong coffee is definitely an acquired taste and isn't for everyone. The only disappointing element is that the cafe is too small and can not accommodate more than 20 people on a whole. However a great concept and a lovely experience.
Smelly Celly
Go for the cappuccino cone!! It is so worth it and delicious!!! It's a small cappuccino in an ice cream cone that is lined with rich and tasty chocolate. My mouth is watering for it while writing this review. It's around the corner from Grand Central, just keep walking around towards the back and you'll find it in the cycle shop :)
Björn Luciano Salsone
I visited The Grind Coffee Company when I first arrived In Jozi few months ago. It's easy to find, free parking & simply different. The staff are willing and the Owner/Manager is a great Barista. I had my first ever Green Mate Latte. It's definitely an acquired taste but so good for you! Simply blown away by my local coffee space, situated in a Bike Shop!
Ivone Da Silva
For a different vibe and an amazing coffee experience this is the place to go. Don't normally drink expresso but this was an experience of a lifetime. Definitely going back for more 😉
Wilmari Bosman
This was a coffee bucket list experience! I was so excited to drink a my favourite drink out of a cone filled with chocolate. The service was fast en friendly. The shop is small and cozy and we can not wait to share another cone Cappachino one day!
Nkateko Nkuna
Finally got to try the coffee in a cone and boy what a delightful experience. The pairing of good quality strong coffee with equally as amazing chocolate is a genius idea! The space is way too small though but I only stayed downstairs and I saw some people going upstairs so perhaps there is more seating. Nonetheless I'm sure to try their entire coffee selection!
Michael Morton
Went on a Sunday afternoon, and it was packed! Didn't get the quiet coffee I was hoping for.. But that is no fault of theirs! There was limited seating but managed to get a table and enjoyed a good coffee. Didn't try their specialty (coffee in a cone), because they had a fridge full of Pauls homemade ice cream which is a big favourite of mine! So I opted for that instead... Cool spot! Will be back..
Valery Mthunywa
A tiny but beautiful space.<br/>The service; teller/owner not really friendly or mean but rather just straight forward.. Maybe it was just a bad day for him.<br/>The coffee in a cone, great concept really really strong :/ expresso couldn't finish it <br/><br/>Overall?.. Tried it, didn't love it but I'll definitely go back to try something different
Sarah
Delicious coffee! We love the gluten free banana bread with honey and nut butter.<br/>The coffee in a cone is novel and delicious. However we prefer to go for the flat whites.<br/>The staff are friendly and informative. We have seen the manager being rude to his staff a few times but the staff seem happy and do a good job.<br/>Worth a visit!
Jayden Bigfish Wright
The Grind is more than just a coffee shop, its a coffee experience. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly and tailor made service invites you go back for more. The coffee is ground with perfection and the perfect ratios send your taste buds exploring and wanting more from the Magic Grind. From a tall Cup to the signature Coffee In A Cone, this coffee shop is in a world of its own.
Nafisa Akabor
I love the Grind only for their coffee in a cone! I tried the espresso earlier this year, and then subsequently the hot chocolate in a cone (very rich as the cone itself is coated with chocolate) and most recently, last week, the matcha latte in a cone. They also take orders via whatsapp if you're in a hurry and want to just grab and go. Yes it is R40 a pop for anything in the cone, and you get a refill bottle if you sit down. It got me 2x cone refills for my matcha latte. So not cheap but definitely a unique experience, and a tasty one! If you tag your photos on Instagram with #coffeeinacone you get a free print out of it, in store! It is inside a concept cycle store, and the tables are made with bicycle wheels; a nice unusual touch.
Your Taste Buds
An amazing little spot with energetic staff and awesome coffee. A little confusing with their different types of coffee. I went for the traditional cappuccino as I wanted to compare. It was amazing and perfectly made. <br/><br/>I really want to try their other ones. Need to visit again soooon. <br/><br/>
Sam Imot
Nice ambiance, OK coffee. Somehow Starbucks' coffees are more exciting, but it's always good to have a cup of joe from a small establishment. Plus it's a cool 13°c outside.
Brandon Pham
All novelty. I had the draught and it must have been the most bland nitro cold brew that I've ever had. It's not worth the money.<br/><br/>Also, wifi doesn't work here! For all the hype, it's a big disappointment. Better off going to Naked Coffee just around the block if you want quality coffee.
Willem Du Plessis
Great place for a coffee. Love the decor. Excellent coffee. Friendly service. I quite enjoyed their coffee in a cone. The Grind Coffee Company is highly recommended.
Roueshka
A must try! The chocolate coffee cone is a definite winner. Definitely for those who are in dire need of a pick me up. Quick shot of coffee inside an indulgent chocolate coffee cone...#absolutebliss
Genevieve Law
We had to try this coffee shop because of its popular coffee in a cone. Macchiato paired with dark chocolate is a delicious combination and they don't skimp on the chocolate. <br/><br/>This is the go-to place for cyclists who have just had a workout. The coffee shop itself has limited space so it can get crowded at times. I just wish they had a wider food variety.
Daniel Wiggill
Went cause of all the rave reviews and comments the place is getting? <br/>The cone capuchino is an awesome concept but the quality of the coffee let's it down. <br/>Roast and extraction leads to a heavy ruff very bitter coffee not to my taste at all.<br/><br/>But big props to another coffee shop fighting it's way to awesomeness in joburg.
Minkys
Delicious coffee and the baristas know their stuff. As a coffee connoisseur, it's always nice visiting a coffee spot where their passion is what they do. I also love the absolute instagram worthy pictures these coffee cups make ... But that's not the point ;) Because the coffee is delicious too!
Kevin Barrie Levy
A small coffee shop within a cycle shop (close to the Fire and Ice hotel) - a unique way to have your coffee...in a cone! Service is friendly however the drinks take a long time to come out (with chaos seeming to reign the coffee station) - when the coffee is eventually ready the experience is one of fun and joy - like eating a hot ice cream. The coffee is good and overall experience a joy. However, once tried and paid the excessive cost for the unique experience, not sure worth the R40 for a double espresso.
Tay
#GRINDCONE .. Absolutely LOVE this coffee concept !! Perfect start to a chilly Sunday morning !! Delicious Cappuccino in a chocolate sugar cone ♥️☕️ such friendly staff and a lovely active vibe as cyclists motion about the shop after a morning ride !!
Michael
The Flat White is one of the best I've had.<br/><br/>Seems to me that the coffee is fresh and the baristas know what they are doing.<br/><br/>The taste reminded me of Woolworth's coffee (which is great as Woolworth's coffee is of a high quality)<br/><br/>For those who like it stronger I recommend the Flat white ordered short with 2 shots of espresso as I imagine the Flat white being weak ordered long or with only 1 shot.<br/><br/>Will definitely be back.
Justin Andrew Dingwall
Great coffee, and they offer soya and almond milk. I really love that they sale Paul's Ice Cream. A great way to start the day with a delicious coffee.
Wendy
Brilliant idea to serve coffee in a chocolate coated cone! I've never tried it, so my anticipation and curiosity finally got answers. If you love coffee and you love ice cream without icy cream then here's the place to be! Especially in winter time, this place is cosy to pop in and grab a hot beverage OTG.
Jolene
Would definitely recommend the 'coffee in a cone'. It's a bit pricey (at 40 bucks for a coffee), but I think that it's something every coffee-loving Joburger should try at least one. Plus, it makes for a great Instagram photo ;)
The Pretoria Explorer
Looking for something new? Want to be part of the cool kids? 😎 Look no further.. The Grind Coffee Company has brought something new to the table, Coffee in a cone!! Yes, coffee in a CONE! You can have either a macchiato, a hot chocolate or an espressos, this is a caffeine heaven for all you coffee lovers out there. Not forgetting all the sweet tooths, the cone is inside fully coated in chocolate as well as a chocolate shot kind of thing at the end of the coffee. Finish the coffee and enjoy eating the cone, delish is an understatement 🍦☕
Ess07
So after seeing many pictures of the famous "Grind cup", we decided that we had to go and try it out for ourselves. The actually coffee shop is very quaint and artsy in its own way, which is very pleasant. So my boyfriend and I both ordered a Macchiato in a Grind cup and awaited to see the verdict. In all honesty it was actually really good. Warning: it was very bitter and it's best to wait a little while until the chocolate on the inside of the cup melts and blends into the coffee thereby sweetening it☺️<br/>
Thameenah Vadi
This is the second time I've visited The Grind in the last week and I think it's safe to say that this fantastic spot is quickly climbing up in my rankings of favourite coffee spot! The vibe is fantastic and the owner, Dayne, is so friendly and always available for a chat. Their famous Grind Coffee Cone is obviously a hit (coffee in a cone layered with chocolate), but their coffee is also top class. Definitely worth a visit!
Laura-Ashley
My friend suggested we meet at The Grind Coffee Company for a catch up to try their famed coffee cone! Until then I had not heard of them or such delishiousness but what a treat it was! Having previously tried Motherland's Eggspresso, I have to say the winner is definitely The Grind Cone! I will definitely be back to try the regular coffee!<br/><br/>Price: The cone sets you back R40 so a little on the pricey side. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: Set in a bike shop and with the big breakfast culture amongst cyclists these days, the coffee shop is real vibey and inviting. You can also enjoy outdoor seating if the weather is good but this is limited to a few tables.
Julia Louise Domanski
Chances are that I was totally hyped up by the amazing pictures of The Cone and their awesome Instagram page, because sadly this charming little coffee shop didn't quite meet my expectations.<br/>Don't get me wrong, it's a really warm, inviting cafe (inside a bigger cycle shop which was a bit strange but no biggie) and the service is fantastic. The guys seem to be really passionate about coffee.<br/>My friend had the mythical Grind Cone and she said it was absolutely divine.<br/>I have been wanting to try a matcha latte for literally years and was devastated to find that it tasted like pond water to me. This could obviously just be personal taste though.<br/>However, the guys were kind enough to replace my untouched latte with a cappuccino free of charge which I thought was super nice of them. Sadly the cappuccino was quite weak and didn't quite hit the spot.<br/>I did however buy some of their vegan, gluten and refined sugar-free chocolate at the counter and it is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend a mini slab with your coffee. <br/><br/>EDIT: <br/>Spent a lovely, informative morning here with Dane, the owner of Grind, and it was really awesome to be around someone with such a passion for what they do. My double shot flat white was divine, as was my friend's crushed ice latte which was made on special request. My brother tried the matcha latte and said that while he wasn't mad about the flavour, he did quite enjoy it bearing the health benefits of matcha in mind.
Andrea Herman
What a great concept. Coffee is absolutely great! The service is always friendly and warm. I have yet still to try the coffee in a cone but the rest of the coffee menu is still great! Excellent flat whites and the matcha latte is amazing
Kelly Ansara
I am a coffee fiend. There is a lot about Grind that really makes me feel like they are innovating how they deliver/make coffee. Firstly, you can whattsapp your order for delivery. Secondly, they are situated in a cycling shop - something refreshing. I had the Cafe Mocha, made with real chocolate and hot coffee poured over it. What a delight. Prices aren't cheap, but you aren't getting cheap coffee. Service wasn't great, but it's quick coffee.

Have heard a lot about grind cafe and the coffee cone so had to try it out. The Grind is situated at the front of Concept cycle store. Ordered the coffee cone with macchiato, the coffee was lovely and went very well with the chocolate inside the cone - novel idea... Would like to return to have their matcha latte!

The Grind is difficult to find as it is hidden and located on the side of how is Melrose Arch next to BMW. <br/><br/>There is not a lot of ambiance as the coffee shop is very tiny. The bicycle theme is oddly tied in to the decor of the place although it has nothing to do with the cycling shop next door. There is however a small outside section. <br/><br/>We had the grind cone which is what we went for as the signature of the place. The overall experience was very sweet with a lot of chocolate. Dont expect a cappuccino as there is really only space for a macchiato. The combination of bitter espresso and sweet chocolate makes sense in theory but in reality it is just too sweet. <br/><br/>It is a fine balance to drink coffee and eat a cone. <br/><br/>Definitely an experience that is worth a try, but not something I would go back for. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

After seeing the wonderful photos I had to try one of their #thegrindcones. I had not realised that it was a bicycle shop/ cafe. Which does create a bustling vibe. The decor was very clever with lots of bicycle-related design.<br/><br/>The coffee cones are a sugarcone coated on the inside with chocolate and then filled with coffee. They were super yummy- especially when the chocolate started melting. However they were super pricey at R40 a pop.<br/><br/>Definitely worth the experience although at that price I will not be back in a hurry.

Had the most delicious macchiato in a chocolate lined sugar cone, it was the best combination of dessert/coffee. Will definitely be back for another!

Macchiato in a chocolate sugar cone!<br/>Doesn't get better👌<br/>Great service! Oh and the cool part is, as a patron you're allowed access to park just outside the shop instead of parking blocks away in the parkade

My rating of this place is based purely on what I had...a chocolate covered sugar cone with a shot of espresso in it...pure perfection. Wouldn't go there for breakfast with friends cos it is strangely located in a cycle shop; but I will return for the decadent coffee/ chocolate offering.

This guy Dayne is probably one of the most enthusiastic and passionate Baristas out there, with innovations like cold coffee on tap, coffee in a cone, and their magic grind, this is definitely an experience.<br/><br/>Check out their amazing espresso machine too, nothing says proudly South African quite like it, love it!

Oh wow, I have a love for trying new and unique things. They trended in south Africa with the #thegrindcone, and from the moment I heard of this coffee in a cone I had to try it. Where to begin? The coffee of course, it's the perfect blend, in aroma, taste and style. Then comes the cone and if the coffee was not enough to convince you the come will. It's stylish, sexy, stunning and simple pleasures with a great taste. The staff and concept are amazing!

Arguably the best cup of coffee in JHB backed up with great service.<br/>The allocated parking bays make this a great everyday experience.<br/><br/>Addiction will soon set in.

Fun little outting with friends. Worth the travels, the grind no doubt the highlight of the trip. Staff were friendly, a tad slow with ringing orders up but a positive experience overall.

Delicious new coffee shop and perfectly placed in the heart of Melrose Arch. Try the grind cone which is coffee in a chocolate iced cone. The thing that stands out the most is that they serve their coffee and drinking temperature, not too hot, just right. This is impressive as you know the beans haven't been burnt. Really good coffee, the taste is on point. This will be a local spot.

The Grind shares its space with a bicycle shop so the seating is limited but it's very trendy. The barista is helpful and the service is friendly and good. <br/><br/>I went here specifically to try the coffee in a cone. The idea is great and the actual coffee is delicious. I did feel like the cone was a bit small so you don't get much coffee so it becomes more about the chocolate and the cone. My friend enjoyed her coffee and liked that they serve unrefined sugar. <br/><br/>Overall, trendy little spot with good coffee and friendly people. Will definitely go back to try some other things on their menu.

What an experience! Been wanting to try #TheGrindCone for weeks now, and had such a lovely time! Novelty gourmet coffee at its best, the grind cone is either a macchiato or espresso in a chocolate lined sugar cone. I know right!? TAKE ALL MY MONEY, BARISTA! <br/><br/>Despite this amazing miracle of master chef proportion, they have coffee cards - 11th coffee is on them - love a little incentive to drink more coffee 😉 everything about this hidden gem says 'considered' and 'perfected'. Lovely staff, great coffee, beautiful design. LOVE.

Best coffee shop in Joburg - so original with all delicious healthy snacks and health drinks. Everything I have had there has been amazing from the coffee to the biscuits, banana bread, smoothies and muffins. Definitely worth a visit 😊

At its core The Grind is about speciality coffee but over the short time they've been open it has grown into so much more than that. With its ever growing group of regulars and it's trend setting specialities such as #thegrindcone & nitro cold brew it has quickly become the talk of the town. The owner & barista, Dayne, is as passionate as they come and he's always willing to engage in coffee talk with customers & all you need to do is ask and he'll hold your cup (or cone) for the perfect Instagram shot. Be sure to order a slice of delicious banana bread to go with your coffee order - you won't be disappointed. This coffee shop has quickly become one of our regular spots. #thejoburgfoodie

Popped in this morning to sample the much anticipated Grind Cone, and I found this little gem of a coffeeshop tucked away in the Melrose Cycle Shop. There are some healthy snack options available too (which didn't look that appetising), but I was here for the specialty coffee and it did not disappoint! <br/><br/>From the dark Belgium hot chocolate (which I am saving for wintry months) to the draught coffee, one is spoilt for choice and the creativity involved in the coffee options is inspiring. <br/><br/>The place was packed this morning, so I stood around watching the staff doing what they do best as I waited for my #thegrindcone. It was well worth the wait and a very patient Dayne even allowed me to photograph him as he created this masterpiece! The grind cone is a dessert coffee if there ever was one, and I thoroughly enjoyed the brief experience. I will be back!

Coffee in a cone, what an awesome concept! The cafe also offers great gluten free banana bread, cappuccino's and cold pressed juices. The service and staff interaction was also pretty good!
