Review Saigon Suzy Parkwood - Johannesburg

This is really a gem with a great vibe! The decorations are superb and aesthetic however the food wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.

Hoya Vision new product launch. What a splendid evening. Staff at Saigon Suzy is so attentative, friendly & eager to share their knowledge of the authentic snacks & food. Love the decor & ambiance. We parked in Jan Smuts Avenue & to be safe, we were accompanied by security to our vehicle at the end of the evening. Thank you very much.

Gloriously Jozi-vibes and retro-pop Asian aesthetic infuses the superbly cooked and plated dishes with a quirky tongue-in-cheeky homage by Africa of Asia: deliciously edgy and I'll-keep-going-back gastronomic adventurism!

A great Vietnamese restaurant! Food is excellent quality and delicious. Affordable prices. Great interior design. Creates a vibrant, modern feel. Attentive staff. Free parking nearby. A private karaoke room is available for booking.

This restaurant us stunning decorated. There are a couple of spaces one can choose to be seated. The food was impeccable. The menu is generally a bit pricey but the food is surprisingly filling for the sizes of the dishes. Unless you're ordering noodles, it's likely that you'll need to order more than one thing. The cocktails are beautiful and taste lovely, most of them of are upwards of R80 so just be aware of that. I will certainly be going again.

I had to redo my review because we recently went back and tried other dishes on the menu. The food was amazing yet again! We even rented out a karaoke room for an hour and had a blast, love that you can still order drinks in the room.

We had a great end of year function at Saigon Suzy in the outside area upstairs. The vibe was great, the food was great, and the service was excellent. Definitely would be back again!

Such a fantastic experience! The atmosphere, vibe and delicious food adds to the 5 stars given. We were gifted with excellent service from Fatima - her attention to detail and warm welcome is truly appreciated and definitely didn’t go unnoticed! Will 100% be coming back soon!

Great restaurant! The food is delicious and the service is great. The karaoke booths are clean and very fun!

Food and service by Queen was great! Will definitely come back!

Incredible. The food is so fresh, and so full of flavour, great portions to have a starter and a main. Their Home Brew Rice beer is deliciously, and uniquely, tasty. There is so much attention to detail to the decor, from the stunning wall paintings, to the china-plate lightcovers and ceiling wallpaper. They really created an authenticly unique environment. Downside though, the service was a bit slow. We had to wait quite a bit for cutlery for our main course and our 2nd round of drinks were warmer than ideal by the time they got to our table, having been ready at the counter several minutes before being collected. They appear to be a bit understaffed. The music was too loud. It took away from the experience. The place is small and crowded already, the very loud music makes it nearly impossible to have a conversation without shouting and missing a couple of words with one's fellow diners. The music choice itself, although not in line with the restaurant theme, was still pleasant enough. Our table was in the first isle, close to the windows, and wafts of unpleasant smoke, not just regular, but what smelt alot like weed-smoke, would come in every so often. This is a very difficult thing for a restaurant to deal with, and they can't really be blamed for this, as the massive windows really help prevent that the small space gets too stuffy, one can only do _so_ much when it comes to expecting and asking for considerate smoking etiquette from smokers. By far though, the food and beer really made the visit worthwhile and worth the recommendation. Would like to try the Fourways branch next and see how it compares.

FABULOUS WAS FABULOUS! Great vibe and trendy place for my mates and I to come for a cocktail after a long day writing exams.

Food was fantastic. Pertus was amazing and gave fabulous tips on what to eat

Good food, great karaoke booths. Nice vibe. Pleasant and accomodating staff makes this place a must visit. Good location. Parking can be an issue as you will have to park at the side of the street. It's safe, just can be busy at times.

We went to Saigon Suzy based on a friend's recommendation and loved it. Yes, the pricing is a bit steeper than similar places, but, in our opinion, well worth the "splurge". I had the Korean BBQ style pork belly with rice and kimchi (it was a massive portion and absolutely delicious, full of flavour), while my partner had the signature dish - Pork Belly Pho (the broth was authentic and the entire dish was goodness in a bowl). The starters we ordered were also great - Pandan chicken, which was tender and flavourful (and the first time I've seen this ingredient in SA), as well as the fried chicken bao (OMG - so good). They also have a great selection of Asian beers and other imported alcohol, which we really liked, as this isn't common. Their cocktail menu also has Asian style versions, which I am keen to go back and try (I did have the Pandan litchi cocktail, which I loved, though there could have been a bit less of it, as it's quite sweet). Service was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Definitely going back!

I came here for my birthday last night. We got there at around 7pm on a Wednesday night. I wasn’t able to book a table, but wasn’t too worried, because it was the middle of the week, so I thought it wouldn’t be too full. Well, I was wrong. We ended up waiting about an hour for a table, but it was worth the wait. Our waiter was so friendly and the service was excellent. The food came out so fast and nothing was missing or wrong. The food was divine. There were 6 of us, so we really ordered a variety of food and got to taste a lot of different things. This is definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a while and I will definitely be back. From the service, to the delicious food, to the ambience. It’s all worth it.
Nathan King
Soooo overpriced... like unbelievably. High way robbery!!! The quality of food is at best mediocre but unfortunately the price of the food makes this a shocker. For these prices you’re paying for the look and location of the restaurant-so you look cool and happening but with just a bad taste in your mouth (literally). Vibe and restaurant look are cool. But the service is underwhelming. They believe in serving food as it comes leaving some patrons with no food while others are finished. On top of it the people with no food ordered the sashimi (not something that should have taken a lot of time to prepare), especially for those teeny tiny pieces of fish which hardly taste premium. This place is not to be taken seriously as a foodie spot. If you want to look like you’re in hip and happening place, with extraordinary less money in your pocket then this is your place!

Wow. Just wow. Decided to be a little adventurous on my visit to Joburg, and I'm glad I did. This place is amazing - both sad and happy I don't live here as if I did I'd be here ALL the time. Pork belly bao was possibly the best thing I've ever eaten - or was until I tried the broken rice bbq pork belly... Then the brownie somehow came along and stole that spot. The food here gets a 15/10 The staff were friendly and attentive (Reese was particularly amazing as he recommended the godly dishes I had). The manager was hands on and really impressed me. I will definitely be back on my next visit to Jozi - if I don't it'd be a crime!

Very trendy and vibey spot. The address on their Facebook is a bit inaccurate as it takes you a block before the restaurant. The food was OK - maybe I'm just picky with Asian food as I know what it should taste like. The food is very pricey for what we received. We ordered the pork belly ramen bowls, wok fried calamari (tasty) and chicken mayo bao which wasn't really like bao at all. A bit disappointing and bank breaking. However, their selection of imported Asian beers is great albeit expensive. If you're into bitter beers rather opt for Singha beer which is the tastiest and cheapest beer on their list. The cherry blossom cocktail was tasty. Overall it was meh. Plenty flies around too which made eating a multi tasking activity. Probably won't go back.
Joanne Lurie
What a fun and unique experience. Just what Joburg needed. I had my 40th at Saigon Suzy and it couldn’t possibly have been a better decision. The food is amazing. The cocktails are gorgeous. The decor is beautiful. The service is amazing. The karaoke pods are magic. I highly recommend it. And for those complaining about the portion sizes, it’s quite clear on the menu that the small plates are tasting sizes. The big plates are huge portions. I highly recommend Saigon Suzy!

Place and atmosphere is amazing, staff very friendly and loved their interior but was disappointed with my food. Everybody else food arrived and mine they forgot about. It came late and had to ask for a doggy bag at the end.. Looking at it this morning. NO chicken as I've ordered in the food plus I have asked for rice but got a pasta rice mix..... obviously a scrape of left overs added to make my dish. That's not on
Chris Sawyer
I’ve been driving past this place for ages and finally got the chance to experience it last night.. the service, the decor, the drinks, the food, the branding.. everything is spot on. Such s great vibe and the food is incredi-bao! Can’t wait to return. the one and only thing I don’t like, is that they don’t take reservations..
Malusi Mbulwana
Food was way overpriced. I had Phò soup and Chinese omelette, and a little bubbles...over R400 in total!! never returning to this place again! sorry guys I was looking forward to the only viatnamesse place in town and this was an absolute let down, I've had better. do better.
Charmaine Marchesi
Now this is an asian fusion experience . Hectic vibe buts adds to the ambience , service and quality supreme. Best boa from consistency to taste and presentation and variety immense . My suggestion start from the top and just keep going . Awesome HAPPY PLACE . And they have a well kept gorgeous secret they have a inner garden area shooooweeeeee . Top class

We decided to try out your restaurant last night (not knowing exactly what to expect) and boy were we blown away! The food was absolutely sensational and the cocktails are to die for! The decor is amazing and what an absolute vibe. Compliments to the chef and to the extremely friendly and accommodating staff. We will definitely be returning soon! It was definitely one for the books.

The spot is perfect, cool and vibey. The drinks were on point but food wasn't that great.

What an amazing mind-blowing place!! We visited Saigon Suzy for the first time on Friday. From the waiters, to management to the food - great!! Unfortunately my phone was stolen by 2 ladies who just walked in - grab mine and another one from another table (was all planed as their get-away car waited outside). The management handled it sooooo well! We sat at the bar/kitchen where Tom, part of management, who also sends out the food, treated his staff so well. They got extremely busy at one stage, and it was great seeing him handle everything like a pro. Our waiter, Fortune, was great!! Such an awesome guy. It says a lot about a place, if you'll go back time and time again, even though your phone was stolen at that exact same spot :) Well done guys - see you soon! I still dream about that house teriyaki!!

Had dinner with a friend at Saigon Suzy and it was an all round amazing experience! The vibe and set up was awesome, our waiters service was 10/10 & the food was flavorful and delish. We started with the roast duck pancakes and wok fried calamari, the duck was a little dry but the calamari was so tasty 😋 For mains we had the Pork Belly broken rice BBQ and the Wok n Roll. I chose the Red Hot Dragon sauce with the Wok n Roll because I was told it was spicy but was a bit disappointed when there was no heat at all! We also tried the Hanoi Hannah cocktail and we were blown away ! Never had such an awesome cocktail only bummer is it costs R80 each ! Saigon Suzy is a great experience the only reason why I am giving it 4 stars is because we ordered a bottle of wine and was told they were out of stock. We then ordered our 2nd choice which they had ... wonderful! After we finished the wine we ordered a 2nd bottle but then was told they were now out of stock on our 2nd choice. We asked for our 3rd choice and was told that was out of stock too.... very disappointed about that , surely if you are a very busy establishment you need to ensure you have stock? Overall we loved the experience, it was very expensive but we will definitely be back!

Excellent food. Great service!! The best Vietnamese Restaurant! A must visit when in Johannesburg.
Daniel Sage
Visited for the first time for a birthday meal. Received amazing service, friendly, efficient and insightful. Ordered most of the starters and they were served quickly and were absolutely delicious. Many vegetarian options and the bang bang cauliflower was great!<br/><br/>Got the tofu Pho and broken rice BBQ for our mains with an alcohol cocktail to boot. All amazing! Can honestly say I have no complaints... great experience. Decor is also awesome and adds to the meal.

Went there for one of the events and this place is a bit isolated compared to the one at Cedar square. The night was pretty cool. Only thing that kind of put a dampener on the night was that mice were running around and a few diners saw them on a couple of occasions. Other than that, the Karaoke experience was pleasant and all the other things mentioned was good as well.
Michaela Kupsamy
Service and ambiance was great except the noodles were over cooked.
Keith Reddy
I've been here a few times and it never disappoints. Saigon Suzy is an absolute treat and a must visit for any foodie or lover of Asian food. Mouthwatering meals, devilishly delicious cocktails, decadent desserts and a vibe like no other! <br/><br/>You wont be sorry.
Brittany Teasdale
The food was amazing - well prepared with a wide variety of flavours. And the service from Sibuniso Nkomo was excellent.
Olivier Letraix
A very pleasant evening with good atmosphere and service. The food was fine, but certainly not worth the very steep asking price. Plates were stingy with the good bits (pork patties were awesome) and way too generous with the broth. Avoid the brownies.
Vijay Ghanshamdas
It's a nice venue for a drink and snacks with helpful and knowledgeable staff but I found the vast majority of food had too much oil. As an Asian restaurant you expect to eat a lot of the food by hand but it isn't a pleasant experience having grease running down your hands.
Samantha L. Jack
Update of review from 4 stars 1 star: We paid R800 for a karaoke room at 11pm on a Saturday night out, but was then later told at 11:25pm that we will have to wait until 12:15am for the room that we paid for. So we asked for a refund, but then they tried to negotiate with us to give us R400 back for no services rendered. This is very bad business. I am extremely disappointed in how a very good place can be ruined by this bad practice. I can not in good faith recommend this place for a good night out. You can see how far this place has fallen by reading my previous review written on Google maps in November 2018 where I came here for new years and a birthday party.
Tracy.a.ashton
Asked them to turn heavy loud rock music down about 5 times but unfortunately we had to leave eventually !
Tracey Smorenburg
Saigon Suzy has the most fantastic decor and worth a visit for the atmosphere. The staff and managers are very attentive. Sadly the food lets it down - just misses the mark and when you look at the cost (it’s not cheap), we left a bit disappointed. Definitely stay away from the roasted pineapple with coconut ice cream. Really bad ice cream - it’s just ice crystals.
Vincent Bezuidenhout
Small plates are a definite must! Prawn toast was exceptional. Mains not as impressive but still good <br/>
Dominique
Celebrated my birthday here recently, great vibe early evening and unusual food! <br/>Gets a little crowd but will definitely be back! <br/>Loved the flying tiger shooter and cocktails as well!
Mustapha Ezzeddine
By far the best Asian restaurant in Joberg, if not of all time. Do not miss out on the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) it is a “chef d’oeuvre”<br/>Decoration: Korean street feel with neo traditional vibes<br/>Service: very friendly and attentive<br/>Hygiene: nothing to complain about + kitchen is open, that is always a good sign
Suzette
I was a little disappointed here. I had been looking forward to going here for ages and went for a friend’s birthday. The food was very expensive considering it’s quality. I love Asian food and have had much better food elsewhere. One dish was inedible but luckily when we brought this to the attention of the hostess it was removed from our bill. <br/><br/>We went upstairs for the karaoke experience which was lots of fun despite the one mic giving terrible feedback and the touchscreen being very difficult to operate because it’s reception to touch was offset. <br/><br/>The cocktails were great and the place has potential for more.
Dennis Naidoo
Kinda defeats the purpose of “build a meal” custom menus when you run out of menus 🤦‍♂️. <br/>Waiter was awesome.. restaurant was poor. My noodles with red hot dragon sauce tasted like the spices were not cooked properly. Edamame was poorly seasoned. Ice cream was melted (in winter). Ridiculously overpriced.
Nabila Hendricks
The restaurant is so different and it’s an exciting experience! However, I must admit the portions were abnormally small & it was 100% NOT value for money! I usually eat one main meal but had to order more food. Their customer service wasn’t great either. And another issue I had was the fact that they didn’t take the order down properly - for which I paid for the extra because they failed to let me know about the extra drinks given.
Andile
I finally went to Saigon Suzy and I LOVED it, next time I go I’m taking a group of friends for the full experience (karaoke night too)! My fav cocktail is the Mango Margarita, we also ordered a few small dishes which were great. Great spot for a Friday night buzz!
Natalie Lazaris
What can I say, other than YES!!! The food to the service, to the ambiance is just 5 star. An incredible foodie experience. The tempura soft shell crab is delicious. Try the spicy pork broken rice bowl it's a mix between spicy and sweet. Just delicious. Book in advance cause it's fully booked and you will understand why.
A Foodie Travels
Was looking for lunch Takeaway so choose the Chicken Satay skewers, quite pricey and small portions  half a stick for satay and satay was not really as tasty as i have had hoped .Perhaps they should show this as starter meal or small plate option .
Mariska Meyer
After recently visiting Vietnam the food was very authentic and delicious. The Vietnamese coffee was a let down it wasn’t strong enough. The coffee beans we bought there are really nice to make egg coffee or brown coffee with at home.
Tamara De Kock
I went to meet up with a friend from NZ and catch up and because of the noise outside and the music we had to talk pretty loudly but that said, it was such a great vibe. The food was delicious! I would have preferred a little more guidance from the waiter on how to put together the make your own dish... like advice on the most popular choices. Beautiful decor and food. Just an awesome spot in Jozi. Can’t wait to take friends there.
Desire Greenberg
First time and what a pleasant surprise! Cozy, vibey and quite noisy, but oh, the food! Delicious to sum it up. We ordered 4 small bowls of starters for the 2 of us as we didn't know what to expect... They were not small and we could have shared one. Our mains arrived... Each enough to fill 2 bellies! Fabulous presentation and great flavors. The service was as good as the food! We will be back, next time with a group of fun friends that will appreciate the vibe.<br/>
Akie Chhabra
Amazing!! Not a foot in the wrong direction! <br/><br/>Our waiters guided us to the upstairs terrace area where we chose to sit; in hindsight it would be better to sit downstairs because there’s a ton of flies when you go get your food upstairs which can be annoying! <br/><br/>We had quite a large variety of their food and everything was great! The Bao Buns (Korean KFC) are absolutely amazing and so is the red curry & the chicken brown rice kimchi medley. A friend had the tempura soft shell crab starter and it looked great! <br/><br/>Looking forward to having the Phu on a colder day alongside some Vietnamese Coffee. That’s definitely next on the list! <br/><br/>One thing though; this place is NOT cheap so it cannot be a regular for most people. With mains priced at anything between 155-185 and international beers priced at R55 upwards; you’re definitely looking at around R700 for two people
Daniela
I ordered the veg option bao. Extremely disappointed with the whole dish. I only had 1 small piece of ginger, 1 piece of pumpkin tempura and a small amount of sauce on each bao.
Darrell Engelbrecht
Amazing place! Great vibe, and the food is awesome! Little bit expensive, but worth the visit. Parking is a bit of a challenge when it's busy, but one street up, turn left and on the right is a safe parking area. A bit of a walk to the restaurant, but not to bad.
Dipna Lala
Great place, awesome food and lovely atmosphere 👍<br/><br/>Food was amazing, and the service was great. Will definitely recommend this place to everyone!
Lerato Thuthuka Kumalo
We had entered Saigon Suzy on a sunny Sunday afternoon and I must say it is such a beautiful restaurant, the cute Asian detail with the multiple umbrella decor. I had the Pandan’s envy cocktail and it was too sweet with ALOT of coconut syrup in it. I honestly didn’t enjoy it. The pork belly ramen was quite delicious with interesting garnishing which makes the dish different. The service was a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn’t full at all. But the ambience made it worth it nonetheless
Kim Chi
Friendly service, quiet creative Fusion meals, just the parking is a bit different, the best thing about this place is they have 3 or 4 hidden kareroke rooms upstairs, must pay a visit one day
Shannon Correia
Well to begin with, it’s beautiful! What a great place for a drink - drinks are good & the waiters are also able to stay on top of everything, even when it’s busy. Good music! Excited to return for some of the delicious looking food and the karaoke upstairs. Social media responses are super quick too!
Jairaj Chetty
Went there with my family for a meal. On the whole we found the food to be bland, lacking the flavours we were expecting (and craving). The decor is quite nice though.
AJ
Nice staff. Cool decor. Ordered some baos. They were tiny and lacked sauce. Very dry and hard to swallow. However walking past some other tables the bowls were huge and looked appetizing.
Jade Adair
This is one of my current favourite places in Joburg. I keep coming back and inevitably have an amazing time every time. Without fail.<br/>The decor and vibe.<br/>The karaoke.<br/>The food.<br/>The friendly waiters.<br/>The cocktails.<br/>It ticks all the right boxes.<br/>
Bryan Vally
Cape Town’s mid-price restaurants could learn a lot from places like Saigon Suzy! One of my favourite dining experiences was sitting on their roof for dinner. The open air surrounded by oldish building was a great setting for a relaxed Asian meal. The food was all very good and excellent value. The service was also good, readily available with good recommendations. If Saigon Suzy was in Cape Town, it would be my local.
O-Mizu Satori
Amazing amazing! Food is outstanding and bursts with flavour, service was impeccable and the decor something unique from the usual we see at other restaurants
Nina Mancha
The first thing you notice when you walk into Saigon Suzy is the quirky and fun decor. The ceiling is covered in upside down painted paper umbrellas, there are Neon lights pointing the way to the karaoke rooms and there's a rather large painting of a Suzy on the side of the room. <br/><br/>We usually order little plates of food when we're there - I am vegetarian and there are quite a few dishes for me to choose from which is always a plus :) The food is yum and the vibe is always good.<br/><br/>They also have a large selection of alcoholic beverages including some imported Thai beers. <br/><br/>The only downside is that they do not take bookings, so it's luck of the draw for seating. <br/><br/>The waitrons are super friendly and always ready with suggestions. If you're looking for a relaxed lunch or vibey supper, this is your place to be!
Sidney Robson
What a great surprise. We came here for our anniversary after spending our honeymoon in Vietnam. Brought all the great memories back. Food was as good as in Vietnam. A must try for anybody. Well done. The food was amazing. The Japanese beer was great and the cocktail excellent.
Ruth Simone Gray
We went here for a close friend's birthday the other day and we were definitely not disappointed! Service was excellent, food came timeously after we had ordered and was all well presented, delicious and tasty. The decor is interesting and combines a bunch of different Asian aspects which create the atmosphere of a Chinese garden. Would also highly recommend ordering the China girl cocktail, delicious and beautifully presented, will definitely be back for more!
Tegan Turner
Awesome food awesome selection on drinks and the atmosphere is amazing all keeping to the theme. They got a unusual and fun selection on drinks and sake. Definitely pop by if you looking for a fun Vietnamese experience.
Chris De Beer
Funky joint, decorations are on point. Decent menu covering a gud variety of dishes. The beef skewers was soft and tender with a great sauce. The beef pho was OK. Broth was good but noddles was avg. The bun cha was smoky, tasty and just a winner all round. Gud venue. Will be back.
Stefan
Great place to be... because of the food which is excellent.... but also because of an excellent service.... thanks to Zanele... a great waitress who truly loves what she does... you will figure out!!!
Jaco Steyn
Great place and very very good and friendly service. (Thank you Zanele you are brilliant). Food is amazing.!! ( Especially like the peanut butter part). We will be visiting a lot more!<br/>
Lilian Du Plessis
What a cool relatively new restaurant! Lovely share plates and the food is filled with amazing flavour. Especially enjoyed the Chicken Sate and the wok fried calamari! Definitely a new favourite!
Athacia Chandar
I think a rating of 3.5 would be more accurate as there were things that were really good and then some parts were very average. The decor and vibe is good for a night out with friends or even a chilled date night. The service was great, a guy named SK was our waiter for the night...very attentive and pleasant. I enjoyed that he could make recommendations. We ordered a few plates from the small plates section of the menu. The calamari and soft shell crab was very flavorful. The chicken/prawn dim sum was neatly presented and tasted great. The KFC bao was underwhelming....just didnt have that burst of flavour and needed more sauce. We then ordered a udon noodle wok dish. The noodles were too soft, I didnt enjoy the texture. Taste was average. The only reason I would go back there is for the pineapple sundae!! I am not really a dessert person, but this was AMAZING!! Super creamy and fresh! Overall, the portions were too small and in my opinion, highly priced for average food.
Linda Bobbert
Loved the food, can’t wait to go back. Enjoyed the open air area but the walk down the dingy passage past the loos could be improved - bright paint or something! Service excellent.
Lauren Harper
Saigon Suzy is always a lovely place to have lunch. I absolutely love the vibe here and our waitress Cissy (Ciolonso) always keeps us happy.
Fay Samodien
I have been wanting to visit this spot for a very long time and it was the best foodie experience I’ve had in a while!<br/><br/>The staff are wonderful. The food is incredibly tasty. The ambiance is alluring. <br/><br/>Definitely 5 stars
Aviwe Palesa Mgobozi
What a lovely Asian restaurant in parkwood. The place has been decorated excellently with Korean themed wall art and roof deco. It's a must see!
Tamra Jones
Cool, trendy, artsy spot with interesting decor. However I feel quite overpriced for the amount and type of food that is served. I've definitely eaten better for less. The food lacked the depth of flavour that you'd expect for Vietnamese inspired food.<br/>Additionally I personally like going to a restaurant where the dish is planned and executed in a way that suits the ingredients/style of the dish. I don't really want to have to choose the ingredients off a list and hope for the best.<br/>Our waitress was really attentive and friendly, so our tip was generous.<br/>Very noisy inside and parking was difficult.
Dan Scott
Absolutely fantastic food and vibe for an easy dinner out. <br/>Was there on Saturday evening and it was PACKED! Do call ahead and make a reservation. Otherwise you’ll be left waiting quite some time. <br/>First time eating there? <br/><br/>The waiters are super friendly and helpful explaining everything even when its super busy. <br/>Remember to look up!
Marco Arcangeli
Seriously let down by this place. Great decor and service, but man was the food a let down. I had the beef noodle dish, which consisted of some slices or sirloin and some noodles in an average broth - that’s it, for R150. My fiancé ordered the Vietnamese pancake which was essentially an oily, slightly bitter pancake filled with mung beans and some prawns - think about that for a moment, filled with mung beans and 6 prawns (which were not deveined), nothing else. We were super disappointed, the bao buns were good though, but we definitely won’t be back.
Ornella Scarpellini
Finally got to go to Saigon Suzy and I was not disappointed! The food is exceptional, staff friendly and the vibe fantastic! The decor is reminiscent of a bygone era and is absolutely beautiful. I had a wonderful time there, as did all of my mates. We ended the evening with karaoke, which was so fun! Will definitely go back to explore more of their delicious dishes!
Theloveofgoodfood
For the LONGEST TIME I have eyed Saigon Suzy and all of my quirky, high, Asian cuisine expectations were met!<br/><br/>The decor is eclectic, clean, well thought out and plain gorgeous. Especially the murals and the ceiling. <br/><br/>Service was quick and the waitress was extremely helpful with recommendations. <br/><br/>Food was amazing! Our entire party enjoyed the wok n roll bowls and every combination was huge and every bit so damn tasty. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back and recommend it to all lovers of quirky and the Asian food scene.
Stuart Thomson
First time visit, and was impressed with the layout and decor, gave the place a great vibe, especially for a Saturday afternoon lunch. Onto food, shared a starter platter for our table, at ZAR 290 the platter would have been great at ZAR 100, but just way too over priced at ZAR 290. The mains were a mixed bag from above average to poor. Service was good. So would we go again, possibly if it was a local, but the food and the prices hasn’t made it a destination place for us.
Christinejorid
Walking in promised a great vibe and energy. Yes it is cool and conceptual in menu but the food did not deliver. Boas were basically sliders...and those were the best dishes of the night. Needed to stop at Momo Bauhaus on the way home. Very disappointing.
Broni Theresa Azar
Saigon Suzy is truly a beautiful restaurant! The whole time I was there, I was obsessing over the decor. It's so unique!<br/><br/>Decor aside, the food here is lovely and also has a unique twist to it. I didn't order any mains, but rather a variety of starters. All of it was simply delicious, with the perfect blend of flavours. I especially enjoyed the potstickers 🥟 (still day dream about them).<br/><br/>Food aside, after our meals and some yummy raspberry cocktails, we booked for karaoke! Best time... Ever!<br/><br/>My only complaint is that the food is quite pricey for the portion size. It also tends to get very noisy, especially on a weekend night. Great for celebration with friends, but if you're looking to go on a date, rather go in for lunch.<br/><br/>All in all definitely a good choice to celebrate a special occasion. Can't wait to go again!
Nico Van Der Westhuizen
A few months ago this place was amazing, the food was great and service was speedy. However, tonight was the exact opposite, portion sizes are halved, service was non-existent and the glasses were dirty. Quite disappointed.
Luva Mbungela
My experience at the restaurant was amazing. We did not order any food, however I did spend 2 hours in the karaoke booth with 13 other people. The booth was well maintained, the staff was friendly and the drinks were top as well. Every single one of my friends thought the night was lovely. I am very grateful for the help I received from Ayesha (one of the employees) throughout the whole experience- from booking the booth to meeting us at the restaurant on our arrival. I would 100% recommend her services to anyone who is planning to have fun night of karaoke at the restaurant . Thank you Ayesha!! ❤️
No Time To Waste
The noodles were seriously overcooked and felt like mashed carbs despite nice flavors.<br/>I am also not sure about the concept of exploiting the "Suzys" who couldn't speak English in Vietnam, with signs of "no tell" motels leading the patrons to karaoke bars.

I was here a month ago and loved it, service was quick and food delicious, after today i feel the opposite, service was extremely slow and my noodles were over cooked, they also got my order wrong after i waited a bit. It seems like the standard drops when they are busy. Disappointed.

We went on a Thursday night and it was very busy. Which, I guess, explains why it took staff half an hour to serve us, our drinks took forever to arrive and then they forgot a part of what we had ordered. Service was poor and the food was truly overpriced for its quantity and taste. Flavors were basic and one dimensional, with the cocktails being more interesting than the actual dishes we ordered. When it came to the bill, they gave us the wrong bill which took another half hour to rectify. It was hard to take in the vibey atmosphere when it was paired with bad service and underwhelming food.

Great vibe and tasty food! The small plates are well presented and tastes great.  The pork belly on the BOA was just a bit tough to eat.  I could not really bite into it... I ended up taking the pork out of the bun.  The rest was great! I had the duck pancakes as well as the prawn toast.  The standard bottle of sriracha on the table is a great touch!

Excellent service ❤️ such amazing food , such an amazing vibe - definitely a must visit whilst in Joburg. All together a great experience, especially with our waiter Tendai❤️

Saigon Suzy doesnt take reservations so we had to sit in the court yard as it was already full by 7pm. we decided to share a couple of small plates instead and enjoyed majority of them ! wouldnt recommend the sweetcorn tempura cause of the texture. the short rib was loooovely as well as the duck pancakes. the calamari was also a favorite ! Lovely experience and great food

Its a 2.5 really. Closer to fine than poor, but i wouldn't reccomend it to anyone.<br/>For example i would never say "you should go to saigon suzy for food, the food is original, good, and well crafted", instead i would say "be very selective about what you order, don't have the ramen, don't have the katsi curry, the bao are almost passable, maybe stick to the starter menu."<br/>We didn't have a wok or whatever they call it here, so maybe thats a safe option. The softshell crab is pretty novel, nice too.<br/><br/>I dono. I was not impressed. Its pricey and mediocre. Maybe its more of a hip to be seen place for the youth, I'm not a youth, I'm not hip with the times.<br/><br/>The beer is mental expensive too.<br/><br/>Meh.<br/>I hear they have a menu consultant in so maybe its gotten better<br/><br/>

Super loooove this place! Food & decor simple refreshing....but i must say table booking is essential, doesn't matter if it a wensday or sunday the place is always packed.

Saigon Suzy serves flavorful delicious food with great options. I had the Ramen with pork belly which was crunchy, hot, salty and had the right amount of fresh crunchy ingredients. My friend had ramen noodles with a selection of fresh vege and the hot sauce. The hot sauce was a bit timid but the food delicious. Sunday our waiter was attentive and looked after all our needs

The interior decoration and vibe is quite nice. The table setting and menu is unique in that you choose what you want by writing it down. The waiters also learn your names which adds a personal touch. However, the food is not great. The ramen bowls are flavorless and the katsu curry is lumpy and lacks any punch. The small plates are edible but the stand out was the roast duck pot sticker. We also went to karaoke which was fun but all in all not my favorite spot to eat.
Marina Patuel
We loved the vibe and the fitting decor. The murals are just so beautiful. Our food was amazing, the soft shell crab was so moreish. Loved the duck pot stickers and the bao buns. The fresh pineapple dessert was so light and delicious to end off the meal. The cocktails were just one after the other better and better. The tables are a nice size for sharing a few plates. Thanks VK you were awesome. Would totally recommend it for a fun night with friends. They don’t take bookings so either get there early or have a drink at the bar.
Kyle
I absolutely loved the experience we had at saigon Suzy. The staff is great, food is awesome and especially the vibe has been something to experience. You get a real feel of being overseas with the interior of all the umbrellas and great wall art. The drink also was great with some traditional drink from SA as well as local overseas drink like Sake from Japan and traditional beers from Thailand. Really enjoyed the overall experience.

Great place with awesome food! We came for lunch and were "Wow'd " by the service. The food came out quickly and although I was apprehensive at first because it was so quick, I was stunned by the quality! My favourite was the pork belly bao which (if you like fatty meat) was just devine! I will be back.... again....and again....and again....and again....

Amazing food! Great warm atmosphere! Service was pleasant and quick! I definitely recommend this gem, especially if you’re looking for delicious Asian cuisine. I will definitely be back.

As a bit of a foodie I always enjoy trying new places and experiences, so for my birthday this year I settled on Saigon Suzy. After contacting them I was notified that they do not take reservations - as it was a special occasion and a large guaranteed amount of guests I asked if they don't make exceptions. Unfortunately they were unable to but I was given some great advise from the hostess - she said that if we arrive early from 17h30 we would be able to secure a table for 19h00. Excellent...or so I thought. <br/><br/>So, I sent my brother and his friend at 17h00 to secure a table of 12. With numerous phone calls from him over the next hour it was clear that they were not giving him the table size that was requested. Im not sure why they chose not to listen to his request or felt that he wasn't a serious client but subsequently  I decided to head to the restaurant early to ensure that this problem get sorted out. On arrival I notified the waiter that the table of 8 we had been given would not suffice as we requested a table of 12 an hour ago. I asked if we could be moved to one of the other larger open tables that would accommodate my group - management refused as these tables were "taken". Strange for a place that doesn't take reservations.  As we were left to our own devices we began taking matters into our own hands and started joining a table nearby to ours to increase the numbers. <br/><br/>Subsequently this got the attention of the manager who snapped at us and told us that he can not accommodate this size table and walked off- as my guests began arriving we placed them at the table of 8, sitting on everything from pouffes to chairs we could salvage. <br/><br/>With some luck a new manager came on shift and attempted to rectify the situation by reserving the table next to us which was joined onto our current party 30 mins later when the guests had vacated it. <br/><br/>Food overall was good - not exceptional like Momo Soku but good. Cocktails were impressive but alcohol was excessively expensive ie an imported asian beer retails for R80.00. <br/><br/>Ambiance and decor was lovely and the waiters tried hard to please - pity their policies and some of the management have such a bad attitude.

If you’re looking for a vibey place for drinks or some delicious food and service with a smile, this is the place for you! <br/><br/>I had my birthday party here and had booked a karaoke pod (loads of fun!). Even though they don’t take bookings, the staff were all very accommodating in ensuring that my party had a table after our karaoke session. <br/><br/>The manager on duty (I am sorry that I didn’t catch his name) went above and beyond in order to find a way for my friend to get home with her car after having had more than the prescribed 2 beers. <br/><br/>Utterly great evening, delicious food, great service! Will be back again!

Amazing gem in Parkwood, really good Asian cuisine and an awesome atmosphere. A good selection of wines, a good and extensive menu too! Check out this restaurant when you’re in the area.

<br/>Our waiter was so friendly and the service was excellent. The food came out so fast and nothing was missing or wrong. <br/>The food was divine. There were 6 of us, so we really ordered a variety of food and got to taste a lot of different things. This is definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a while and I will definitely be back. <br/>From the service, to the delicious food, to the ambience. It’s all worth it.

I'm not sure what hypes this place at all. The decor is a mishmash of every East Asian aesthetic stereotype (Chinese Parasols? Why not! Lets name our resturant after a Vietnamese city's former name! For good measure lets just add 1920s Shanghai in it, because Asia is the same). It all culminates in bland and unimpressive food that is expensive (you only notice the price of bad food). Also lets add annoying puns to the menu, because ha ha. <br/><br/>Personally, the idea of building a meal is not something that has ever interested me outside of my own kitchen and so building a bowl just puts me off. It assumes too much on the behalf of the customer and if you're unaccustomed to ramen good luck deciding what should work and what shouldn't. Anyway my bowl was first brought with the wrong noodles, to which the waiter tried to convince me were the right noodles on some "Customers often confuse these two"... Spoke to the manager who agreed straight away that the noodles were wrong and immediately got them to work on the new dish which...they then brought out BURNT. The thing stank to high heaven.  Manager comes back, apologies immediately and says to me (get this) let them bring out the THIRD version of a simple  noodle bowl with bok choy and if I don't like it, he'll take care of the bill. I declined his offer because I didn't come to play a game of chance, I came to eat. <br/><br/>My view of this restaurant was like 80% scarred by this encounter but my partner and I didn't only try the bowls, we tried some plates and a chicken bao but nothing was good enough to get rid of the burnt ramen bowl. Don't get bamboozled by the "In the Mood for Love" aesthetic, it ain't worth it.

What a powerhouse little venue with the friendliest staff and snazziest decor! I loved sitting with a window view of outside, with warm heaters to keep things cozy. Literally the spiciest curry I have ever eaten IN MY LIFE 😂🙈 If you’re a spice lover, I couldn’t breathe for like an hour so definitely go for it. Can’t wait to be back!!

The first time I went to Saigon Suzy I didn’t really understand what the hype was about. I thought the food was good but that the portions were tiny and expensive.<br/><br/>Today I came back and I must admit that I have completely changed my view. Although the portions are pretty small for the price, the food was absolutely delicious!<br/><br/>We first ordered the edamame beans, I must say I previously thought that this was a pretty standard dish, however, the spice on them was delicious. The roast duck pot stickers and roast duck pancakes were out of this world. I thought the KFC Bao was ok, but not really special. The broken rice pork belly dish was amazing and I am pretty sure I could eat that as my staple.<br/><br/>The vibe and ambience is very cool and I must admit I love the option to buy a voucher for the restaurant as a gift.

The setting is great and I would imagine a great place to meet up with friends, if you are young and have good hearing. The food however was rather average and bland. A western attempt on Asian food. Very sweet and sticky without much flavour and very expensive for what you get.
Radha Chhita-Nathoo
Wow, this place is incredible. <br/>They had no electricity or lights when we went, however most of the menu was available. Service is great. Food was simply delicious. The Suzy Sundae was super yum. Can’t wait to go back.

I barely made it through my starters, so there was no chance I was going to order a main! Wow, the food was TERRIBLE! I’ve only ever heard bad reviews, but decided to try it out myself. I ordered the prawn toast, as well as the spicy tuna roll 🤢 the rice on the sushi was wet, and over cooked... and the prawn toast was very oily! Gosh everything was bad! The manager noticed that I didn’t eat my food, and came to ask what happened. He was very sweet, apologized, offered me a free meal to replace my order... but tbh, I just couldn’t stomach any more of. He took my order off the bill, we finished our drinks, and left. Staff was lovely! Decor is awesome! Unfortunately - I won’t be going back.

Service was on point. We had so much fun in the karaoke room. The food was absolutely delicious and inspired. The wait staff were charming, well informed on the menu and helpful. Highly recommended.

Great place for lunch or dinner and so beautifully done! Wine 7/10 as we found a drinkable red merlot at a good price. The ramen bowl was yummy and once I added chili sauce a winner. The starters are really small - duck pot stickers (4 in a portion) probably have only about a teaspoon of filling, very disappointing. The bao was also very small and served as sliders rather than the traditional steam bun - good flavours

Trendy deco, wonderful ambience and excellent service. We really enjoyed Saigon Suzy, even the kids. We tried Prawn Crackers, chicken and prawn dumplings, prawn toast, wok fried calamari wok and roll and ramen bowls. Desserts were excellent as well. I think the prices are high and the portions are not all that big. Brilliant dining experience though and definitely one of the better Asian fusion Restuarants that I have been to.

Saigon suzy offers a incredible fun and unique food experience. The restaurant is vibey, decor is artistic and the food exceptionally flavorful

Friends suggested trying this spot and I hadn’t had time to read any reviews, so I went in completely unaware. The atmosphere is electric and quite “hip vibey, bar-like” but it ain’t pub food! The food was delicious, although it took a while to get out the kitchen. Great spot for a party! As then you can book a karaoke room upstairs, for a friends sing along! It is not cheap, but a VIP experience with very attentive staff! So kind of like an extroverts best night out, and an introverts nightmare if you not prepared for it! Don’t choose this spot for a quiet dinner or catch up, unless you enjoy shouting your news across the table. But if you in the mood for good food and a party, this is your spot!!

Had a fabulous dinner at Saigon Suzy- starters, mains and dessert were all delicious! Choclate brownies were a perfect way to end 3 great courses. Service from SK also excellent, and the place has a really easy, fun vibe. I'll definitley be back again soon!

Absolutely incredible experience last night. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is amazing. You don’t feel like you are sitting in SA. The service of the staff was brilliant. Our waiter was attentive and knew what he was talking about with the food recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to return for another memorable evening! Hope they keep up this high level!

If you want to have fun and eat good food, then this is the perfect restaurant! Absolutely had a blast here. Service was friendly and accommodating. We decided to share a few plates of food and asked that they adjust the servings so we would always get a portion for each person. The food was delicious!! My favourite was the duck pancakes and the prawn toast, but honestly, everything was good. I finished my meal with one of their Vietnamese coffees, served with a bit of condensed milk at the bottom and a little kettle that drips into your cup. The coffee was very good and the added new experience a nice touch.

Went to Saigon Suzy last night for dinner and absolutely loved it. They don’t take reservations so we arrived at 6pm and were seated very quickly. We did have a small party of only three, if there are more of you, you will have to arrive very early to get a spot. For instance we saw a man arrive at 6pm and his friends only joined after 7 but he came early to make sure they got a table. <br/><br/>We ordered prawn toast, prawn crackers and the cheese and peanut spring rolls for starters and they were absolutely delicious! The prawn toast was phenomenal and starters arrived very fast. <br/><br/>For mains we all built our own wok and everyone loved it. The menu really caters for all taste and the waiters were very clued up on what sauces suit what proteins etc. <br/><br/>We didn’t have dessert as the options weren’t that extensive. <br/><br/>The food was delicious, it arrived quickly and the service was great. Will definitely be back! <br/>

I have been wanting to visit Saigon Suzy for a while due to all the hype around it and finally had a chance last night. It's a great, vibey venue to start your evening at. I had very high expectations and to be honest was let down slightly by the food. It was all good and unique, however nothing to rave about. The cocktail menu looks great! Our waitress as well as the service in general was exceptional.

Great food (the sweet corn tempura balls are delicious) and service! Beautifully decorated restaurant and the Cherry Blossom Garden is a must!
Carmen Purkiss
Very Vibey joint, great music, good place to start your night out. They do not take reservations so get there early. The staff are wonderful and very friendly and efficient. Portions are a little on the smaller side (consider when sharing plates) but the food is delicious. And for something fun after dinner, dry out the karaoke rooms upstairs.

Loved the freshness of the food, exquisite flavours and a fantastic variety. Service was excellent but we arrived early for lunch, I think the patrons who arrived later might have had much slower delivery of their food. Very nice vibe, pleasant service staff and incredible food, will definitely be back.

Amazeballs, yummo, outstanding food. Tasty and well prepared. Must try tempura soft shell crab and the wok experience. Not the cheapest but the flavor and experience was worth it. Loved the Vibey music and decor. Coolest waitress Phumi. Will definitely be back for a treat! Loved every bit of this of this meal.

I’ve been to Saigon Suzy on several occasions. The first time the service was absolutely incredible and the food was delicious. I quite enjoy being able to put whatever it is I would like to eat on my plate. <br/><br/>However the second time - we didn’t have the greatest service. Our waitress was great, however the kitchen stuffed up our orders twice. And we just accepted what we got on the third time because we were tired of complaining. As mentioned above, the food is always of great quality, but nobody wants to eat what they didn’t order. <br/><br/>I love the ambience there, the music is never too loud and they have interesting things all over the place to look at <br/><br/>I would definitely advise you give this place a visit, at least once!

Just had tapas which was good , not exceptional. Didn't have a main but the menu selection is so different to any other place. Awesome vibe, great concept! Definitely a place ill return to have a dinner, drinks and karaoke!
