Review Moroccan Lifestyle - Johannesburg

Moroccan Lifestyle is an oasis situated inside the Lifestyle Garden Centre. The service is good and the food fresh, delicious and we enjoyed every bite. I opted for the chicken, feta and caramelized onion quiche with salad. My hubby enjoyed the big boy burger. The onion rings are fresh, crispy and yummy. We opted for smoothies as they had no wine or spirits available and according to the waitress they are awaiting the renewal of the liquor license. Worth a visit!

This lovely little shop along Beyers is amazing. The service is excellent. The look and feel is also very well done. The food and presentation is very inviting, tastes great and looks great. Don't leave without having something from their bakery -- They are great!

Went through this lovely spot for Mother's Day. The coffee is rich and lovely. Scones are fresh, soft and fluffy. The lemon meringue is a must. And the quiche selection is rather interesting (had the broccoli, bacon and mushroom quiche).

An interesting combination of a moroccan-inspired menu with moroccan goods on sale in the store. The menu is extensive - from breakfast to light meals, baked goods and more. I had the moroccan tomato soup - a lovely meal on a chilly winters afternoon They offer baked goods on sale for take-away, from cakes to quiches and more

Good, interesting food. Good service, but don't go if you're in a hurry.

Nice venue for breakfast or a light lunch. Food quality is good, portions reasonable, so too prices. Service is good and there is a good selection of deserts. Inside as well as outside open seating. Chairs not the most comfortable and there is a lack of intimacy. All in all a good destination to try.

Great food. Good service. Love the new menu with picture of the moroccan market in the background.

One of the best restaurants ever! The flavour and food is absolutely amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in exotic flavours and value for money. Staff is great but after paying they discussed the tip out loud which made one feel a bit uncomfortable.

Absolutely love this restaurant! Every time we have been, the experience has always been great. The coffee and cake is always a reason to return and their quiche is delicious as well. The waitresses are friendly and helpful - definitely a restaurant i would recommend .

I really enjoy coming here as they have quite a few unique items on the menu. I enjoy the range of cheeses that they offer on the menu as well as the combination of sweet sauces that go along with it. Their pastries and desserts are delicious too!

This restaurant offers something quite different with its Moroccan theme and relaxed ambience. The service is good and the food interesting offering a good variety of salads, hot foods and smaller meals. We went for breakfast and enjoyed their version of eggs benedict and eggs cooked in a tagine with sausages bacon and a tomato based sauce. If you looking for somewhere quiet and different this place is certainly worth a visit

I had the beef curry tagine with yellow rice which was amazingly tasteful. The rice portion was a little small and I would have liked to have the choice of cous cous over rice, though I did not ask. The curry was piping hot which is rare at restaurants these days. Its a coffee shop atmosphere so perfect for breakfast and lunch. We took the lamb pies as a takeaway and they were delicious.

This place is a gem! I cant believe how many times I have walked passed this little cafe and not notice it was there. Took my lady there and it was just perfect. Great service, food and beverages. Will definitely go again

Situated inside the Lifestyle Garden Centre, this restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. The menu provides a lot of choices and the food is tasty. As the name suggests, the decor is Moroccan.

The staff are all really friendly and attentive. The food has a creative twist - definitely worth the visit.

great place for sunday breakfast, any day lunch or just coffee and cake. Some delicious moroccan style food, but also more everyday items. Great value and excellent service. One of our favorites.

It’s so nice to taste exotic flavors right on my doorstep, with great menu options. I’m looking forward to going back to try some of the other stuff. It’s a pity they run the restaurant from that funny corner at Lifestyle - as it would be perfect in a candle lit courtyard under the stars. Location aside it’s a lovely lunch spot. The meze platter has a nice combination of tastes, which was perfect for my Libra lunch guest. I had the Banting Moroccan burger - which was interesting but not that filling. The salty caramel hot drink took the cake.

Been to the Lifestyle Business Park a couple of times but never been to the Moroccan Cafe. Met up with some friends who recommended we go there. Warm welcome and shown to our table. Drinks orders were taken and not wasting time, we placed our orders. Ranged from Quiche to Curries and salads. I ordered the Moroccan Curry - medium. With the heat strength, I could’ve ordered the Hot, since it was a tad bit mild. The food was tasty and aromatic. Took me back when I went to Marrakech a few years back. Good value for money!

Terrible service. Our drinks were provided in reasonable time but it was downhill from there. From the time we sat down and placed our order after 45 mins we decided to leave after still not receiving our food. We wanted to pay for our drinks then all of a sudden our food is now ready and the manager wants to split hairs over how long we have waited and still made us pay for ur drinks. 1 star rating is too high for this place.

Had a mango salad and the pavlova and it was delicious. The pear and blue cheese salad is the best. We could not order any cocktails on the menu because according to the waitress the "bar person" is new and still in training?! Staff were friendly and service was good. Manageress/owner can smile a bit she doesnt seem accommodating or happy

Please don't try to visit this restaurant for lunch or coffee with a pram or little one. All the tables taken by elderly people reading books. I found the waitresses not at all helpful. Not a nice experience.

We frequently pass the Moroccan Cafe whenever we browse through Lifestyle Garden Centre and for quite a long time, we were under the impression that it was just a shop. The dècor is very pretty (and about the only thing Moroccan about them) and their baked items always look enticing, so we decided to give the Moroccan Cafe a go for lunch.

We ordered the quiche of the day and the chicken pie. We were quite surprised to see both of them being fetched from the display of baked items in the display fridge at the front of the restaurant.

The quiche of the day was a smoked chicken, feta, and caramelized onion quiche. It was quite sweet for a quiche, which seemed to be as a result of the caramelized onion which was more of a caramelized onion marmalade. The accompanying sauce seemed to be a watered down paste of powdered paprika and water.

The chicken pie was generous in filling and flavourful, and the accompanying mushroom sauce was delicious.

Both pies, however, had a lot of phyllo pastry which seemed a bit unnecessary especially if it's just for presentation.

The service was good, just a bit slow. They seemed a bit understaffed for the amount of tables occupied.

The Moroccan Cafe is a bit pricey for their portion sizes and not really a place we would frequent.

I'm not usually one to find fault but this cafe is particularly overpriced. I loved the Moroccan theme but when you get charged R6 for water with lemon you have to question the value. I've been here a few times as I enjoy the convenience of the car wash which is excellent while you relax at the cafe but even the Food has been average on all occasions -- so definitely not to be revisited from my view.

Delightful lunch spot. Good service, management hands on.
Good menu variety. Lovely bold flavours. Will visit again. Overheard other patrons very complimentary about their meals.
This is a bit of a difficult one to review... is it Moroccan for all the odds and sods it sells or is it meant to be the restaurant???

Well the pastries make me think of a continental deli and the menu a mix of cultures... so let me stick to my meal and not complicate matters...

We both had the caprese breakfast... with health bread... stunning, the eggs were perfect on both orders and it was seasoned exceptionally well. It was a delight to have such a nice light meal...

Awesome as always , food was so delicious and tasty,Moroccan lamb pie and carrot cake still the best in the ....world , don't miss it, yo will not be disappointed
It is really sad to know that there are still restaurants that think their customers are dumb, with this one possibly being one of them. Before I go into too much detail, it is important to note that up to date most of the reviews and the rating of this restaurant is based upon cakes, savouries, and breakfasts at this restaurant.

Location: This restaurant is located very conveniently in the lifestyle center, close to the nursery.

Ambience: This restaurant has an "outside" feel, due to the location and patio furniture of the restaurant. Unfortunately the many coloured lanterns and mosaic tables does not do the trick to create a Moroccan feeling. They offer blankets for colder days.

Drinks menu: Most "foreign" restaurants that I know of and reviewed before offers at least one imported drink on their menu. Morocco offers some really good wine like Thalvin's Cuvée du Président and beer like Spéciale Flag or Stork. If not, why not make their own avocado juice, green tea with mint or khoudenjal tea? Instead you get ONLY local drinks, Five Roses, Rooibos etc. here.

Kids menu: If you wish to expose your children to anything Moroccan from this menu, you are in for a surprise! You will get Italian penne & cheese or fettuccini & meat balls, a toasted cheese sandwich, German potato wedges and pork sausage or French toast. Nothing Moroccan.

Menu: When I looked at the menu, I was wondering if the owners of this restaurant ever visited Morocco? You are hardly going to find quiche, scones, or muffins in Morocco, not to mention rye bread with pastrami! If it was khobz or flat bread, yes - but no! Sweet chilli mayonaisse in a tortilla!? Bean and bacon soup!? BACON! Although there are many pig farms, whose gonna eat that pork? Wait...they have a Moroccan Lifestyle Pasta on the menu. Ingridients: roasted cherry tomatoes, olives, feta, basil pesto, and parmesan cheese. You must be joking!? I could locate some kofta balls and a Moroccan curry on the menu. Further on you find Bobotie, chicken roullade, Cape Malay Chicken curry... Where is the couscous, Pastilla, tanjia and khobz??? No one minds other dishes on a menu, but you cannot call this place a Moroccan cuisine restaurant. Both that classification and the name of the place is very misleading in this regard.

I ordered a "Moroccan curry" and was quite surprised to see that it was served in a tagine. My experience of tagines is that they were steaming the food for a long time, are very hot, and steamy when the lid is lifted. Sadly, the waitress lifted it with her bare hands, no steam, and although the food was hot, the bottom of the tagine was cold. Thus, no doubt that the food was just dished in there. This is really disappointing, because the tagine plays an important role in the taste of the food. That perhaps explain why the food was tasteless and tough. Also, beef is way more consumed in Morocco than lamb, so why not that option? The meat was not properly marinated and therefore did not compliment the meal as a whole. The sambals, containing bananas, was quite a strange addition to it all. It is clear that the chef who was preparing the food has no idea what they were doing, and obviously believes that they can fool their customers. Not on!

Service: The waitress was okay and attentive.

Management: No manager came to our table. Although they mention on their website how important greetings are in Morocco, we did not experience this. There were two ladies who made it very prominent that they are exalted there, keeping a hawk's eye on the waiters and marching up and down. Unfortunately none of them thought it well to extend a smile or come and check on us at our table.

Price: Reasonable.

Recommendation: I will not recommend this restaurant at all, whether you want Moroccan food or not. I will further recommend that the management and staff go do their homework on what is Moroccan and incorporate this going forward. What is really scary is that you offer cooking classes. Not being the epitome of Moroccan food, I would be horrified to know what you teach people at those classes!

Great little cafe for catch ups and casual meetings. Sitting outside is the best as you great a great view of Lifestyle Nursery - I suggest the cheesecake!

Delightful! This little Moroccan style cafe is so quaint and serves the most delicious, breakfast, cakes and pastries - it's a winner every time

From the outside Moroccan Cafe is beautiful. The colours and decor are exotic and transport you to a different world. We selected a table outside so we would still be able to view the nursery at the Lifestyle Centre while we ate.
Our waitress was sweet and quick to take our orders and offer us blankets as it was chilly that morning. They also have a no-smoking policy for outside which I really enjoy.
I ordered the Essaouira Breakfast with extra mushrooms. While the breakfast was quite average the mushrooms I ordered extra were delicious. They had been fried so they were still tasty but slightly crispy which was absolutely perfect for me.
Overall the service was good, as was the food but it is the calm and exotic atmosphere that really makes Moroccan Cafe stand out. Hopefully next time I will be more adventurous and try one of their Moroccan inspired meals!

We've been to Moroccan Cafe a few times. Mostly for coffee, and the kids have had toasted sarmies here.

The coffee is great, as are the cakes... I absolutely love their carrot cake.

The reason for the 3 though, is their breakfasts. As someone else said in their review, you get 2 measly pieces of bacon for a whopping price of R16 (as an extra to a meal)... and they use shoulder bacon, so it's thick, stringy and tasteless.
Overall, the breakfast is pretty tasteless.
We won't be having breakfast there again.

I’m not sure if the name suggests it is actually Moroccan cuisine being done? If that is the case besides for the ras al hanout and some chickpeas and one or 2 other Moroccan spices there is nothing Moroccan about this place or the food.
I find the seating extremely uncomfortable and putting items for sale around the shop that is “Moroccan’ is not my idea of Moroccan decor.
I find the oldish lady that works there quite unfriendly, she makes me think of the movies when you go to a fancy restaurant and you are greeted by this very upmarket snooty lady. She would slap the menu in front of you and immediately say a waiter will be around INSTEAD of just asking you what you want to drink so long instead of waiting 5 minutes for the waiter to arrive.
Had the sandwich with cream cheese, avo, camembert and avo on ciabatta. Firstly the bread looked like ciabatta but it did not taste like ciabatta. The proportions of the ingredients were totally wrong. There were big pieces of bacon which were fried to death and also had a funny taste. The lettuce were fresh and there was too little avo in relation with the cheese. There was A LOT of sliced cheese. Having inspected the dish I could not see how they were making any decent money on this sandwich. It was also a humongous portion. I only had a quarter of it then asked for the bill. The waiter wanted to know why I hadn’t eaten any of it and I explained to her in detail but she could not be bothered. I have been here quite a few times now and had different things from toasted sandwich to quiche (lazy quiche as it has no crust, phyllo pastry is used) and I can honestly say that I have not liked anything.

The Moroccan Cafe is beautifully located in the lifestyle garden centre, (right next to the book store), with both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor and the colours are very make the venue that much more authentic, and the blankets over the chairs are a lovely touch (and perfect for the slightly colder days). The decadent chocolate smoothie was a bit of a disappointment with nothing decadent about it. It tasted like powdery hot chocolate that obviously isn't hot. But the food that we had was delicious. The wraps are so full with flavour and stuffings that they practically bursting open . The menu allows for a variety of fussy eaters and the breakfast selection is probably one of the best, with multiple sides being added, so you can basically create your own breakfast and vary it up to your exact liking. Definitely a nice place to replenish after shopping through all that lifestyle centre has to offer. (For me it's after spending hours in the book store).

My husband and I discovered this little place for the first time today and decided we must try out some of the nice pies, quiches or cakes they display so enticingly in the fridge and kloshes.
They are rather pricy! But we really enjoyed the cakes. Carrot cake - moist and bursting with flavour. Salted caramel cheesecake - baked to perfection with a beautiful texture. We'd like to go back at some point and try the lunch menu...

Tried out this little gem of a place for a light lunch.I had a mezze platter & cappuccino. The food was amazing & the coffee superb. It's in the middle of the lifestyle garden centre.Beautifully decorated with Moroccan styled furniture.

Our office park is nearby so I often stop in for a quick bite. I can highly recommend the cakes. In fact, I would not be surprised if an ode was written about the baked cheesecake topped with salted caramel. It's that good.

I can't comment on the entire menu as I tend to stop by around breakfast time, but the omelette, potato rosti and toasted sandwiches are all pretty good.

Breakfast was very tasty had lovely poached eggs with bacon. The portion of bacon is very small for the price you pay, 2 slices of toast is the price of two loafs of bread. Otherwise service is good

Had a late breakfast with my wife here, this restaurant wins the award for no Smiles from staff, food was tasteless, I ordered a Soufflé 3 egg omelet. It had a burnt taste. 1 annoying thing was the guy that kept coming and ringing a bell, trying......tring..... tring. Cappuccino was weak and did not taste like coffee.

On the bright side the decor was pretty good.

Our regular breakfast spot in the chaotic Lifestyle centre. After a disastrous outing to a new restaurant -Piza e Vino-we went back to our regular weekend spot and wondered what possessed us to try anywhere else.

The service is somewhat slow (but in such a calm manner) and the waitress's are all quiet and shy but the friendly head chef/ manageress Daleen scuttles in and out the coffee shop, kitchen and while giving the occasional cooking class to make sure every table is happy.
While the nearby restaurant is geared toward children, the staff at the more "adult" cafe always welcome my toddler-and her mess-and most of them know her "standard" order.

I never order from the menu, I have the standard "make-my-own-poached egg, avocado, balsamic onions and grilled cherry tomatoes and it's EXACTLY the same and perfectly executed each and every time.

The coffee is good-if you get a poorly made one, send it back again-they never complain and always make a stronger coffee with a firmer foam with a happy smile.

I recently persuaded a group of friends (very loyal Tasha's) to give them a bash for our monthly birthday breakfast.
The entire group loved the food, brought along their own bubbly, and remarked on the excellent value for money.
Lunches are as good and their Babotie and Tagines are delicious.

Located @ the Lifestyle Shopping centre, you are immediately attracted to the place with its delectable selection of cakes on display from the inside section of the centre.

The décor is of course Moroccan themed, and many of the items on display, also on sale too.

As for the food. Really good! Our veggie in the group raved about the Butternut bobotie (R60), while the Moroccan Curry (R95) was cooked really well and the Berber Salad (R68), full of flavour.

As for those aforementioned cakes, of course we had to try one out! The Salted Caramel Cheesecake (R48) was our pick, while a Peanut Butter Parfait (R35) was also calling my name. Both fantastic choices. I also tried the Ginger Beer Smoothie which went down rather well on the hot summer’s day.

Side note though, the menu as seen on their Zomato page is outdated. And when trying to take pics of the physical one on the day as to make sure I mentioned things correctly for this review, I was immediately chastised by the waiter, telling me that the owner doesn’t allow pics of it, something to do with stealing. Mmmkay, sure. So to the owners of the Morrocan, please note for people to have an understanding of what you offer, and of course the correct prices, please don’t only rely on reviews on Zomato alone as an up-to-date menu is pretty important too.

Always a good experience here! The food is truly Moroccan (I love the lamb pie) and if you land up there for breakfast you can create a breakfast to your liking - very cool! They have yummy savoury cheescakes and their main meals are all a must try! The little shop is full of inported goods and there are beautiful sweet treats on display! This Cafe is a must for a nice lunch or breakfast or even just a coffee and a delicious cake!

Quirky cute little hidden shop inside lifestyle shopping centre, got these beautiful Moroccan lights dangling from the ceiling definitely gives it a nice vibe, we sat down for some cake and tea, we decided on their salted caramel cheesecake which was absolutely mouth watering to look at and even better to eat, it was soft and creamy and if I'm not mistaken there was no gelatin added to it(which I hate in most cheesecakes) would have preferred the base to be harder but have to say it's one of the best I've ever had.

A group of us did a Moroccan cooking course with their head chef Daleen on Saturday morning. It was great to learn how to cook with a Tagine and best of all we got to eat all of the dishes we cooked. Love the flavours and was finally taught how to cook cous cous the traditional Moroccan way. I purchased my own tagine and will definately be putting my new skills to good use in my own kitchen.

What fun !! 8 of us went to Moroccan Masterclass with Daleen the amazing chef at Moroccan Cafe.
R400 gets you - a menu - a cooking table an eating table and the yummiest food 50% cooked by ourselves - she helps a lot or we would still be there .....wine at 10h00 is not a good idea ( hindsight and all that ....)
We cooked a breakfast tagine - spring rolls from scratch - couscous salad and the most divine chicken dish rounded off with rose cakes - so YUM !! Highly recommend this experience .....and YA - it starts at 10h00 so have a small nibble before you go - if you going to quaff wine at 10h00 !! Thank you Daleen for an awesome experience !! We visited on the weekend. The lamb pie is awesome. Great food, reasonably priced and efficient service. It was a great first experience. A great selection of meals to choose from.

This quaint café is beautifully decorated with all things Morrocan. Perfect for a quick brekkie or coffee and cake if you're in the area. Unfortunately being located inside Lifestyle centre means lots of passers-by, all in all however; good food, enticing sweet treats and great hospitality by both management and staff.
