Review Kai Thai - Johannesburg

Melanie Van Dyk
Mary is amazing ! I am spoilt for life - the love , care and concern she puts into those 60 minutes. My body is extremely grateful
Melissa Sibindi
Privilege really saved my sanity! Back spasms from hell were massaged to smoothness during a very stringent Deep Tissue massage. And only R500 for 60 minutes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Kai Thai.

The massage was so good, the lady was able to click my whole entire body. I left the spa feeling so light

It was my first time going for a massage, but I will definitely take others with me next time, my body feels so great I feel so fresh and light thank you so much for your work I really loved it.thank you thank you Thandi😊

Great place to get foot massages after a long day at Fourways mall. Really miss them being at Monte Casino but at least they are not that far.

The spa is absolutely amazing. The decor really does a lot to make you feel like you've escaped the fast paced jhb life and entered into serene, original Thai surroundings. I honestly received the best massage I have ever had, be prepared for firm pressure, effective bends and stretches and a thorough kneading out of knots and tension in various stress areas. I would go back in a heart beat👌

One of the best Thai spa’s I have been to. The ladies there know exactly what they are doing and the setup of the place is just beautiful and calm. When you are around you should give them a try.

This is one of the best Thai massages in Joburg I've been experienced. The lady is good at what she's doing. My husband and I both satisfied with one hour traditional thai and one hour neck and shoulder massage. Will come back soon :)

The service is great, and the premises is kept neat and clean. The staff are professional and friendly. The treatments are good value for money. The spa has a tranquil atmosphere. It's a great way to relax and unwind. I would recommend this spa.
Candice Antonie
Professional massages. Good service. Difficult to get hold of though (phone always unavailable or out of network). We are very happy with Kai Thai Spa and love to go for a massage before or after date night.

I found it strange that the restaurant is attached to the spa but I do have to say I received the best massage I have ever had in my life. Ask for Kung. She was amazing. Worked all the knots out of my back and legs, and unlike other places she didn’t seem to be caught up with the time. She went over time in order to fix me right up and didn’t charge extra. Fantastic experience with and excellent and knowledgable practitioner.

Had an amazing full body massage at a very reasonable price, definitely going back

Great spa, clean with stunning Thai decor, the masseuse understood her assignment I booked 90min aromatherapy. The down part is the oil they are using has no aroma at all. (At some spa or previously with them, they make you inhale the beautiful scent of the oil) The beauty of having an aromatherapy massage is having to smell the whole room with the beautiful fragrant of the oil and something I always look forward to. Less the oil it was lovely

Thank you for the great massage Privelage is really Profesional and skilled, I can really recommend this spa any day.
Rory DOWNING
The best massage and relaxation. Love it here.

Absolutely awesome. The therapists know what they are doing and make you feel like a million bucks. The decor and setting is beautiful

Spontaneously decided to kill 15 minutes before going to see James Morrison live at Teatro at Monte casino, mom and I popped into Kai Thai spa and restaurant. We where ushered upstairs to a private massage area which over looked the restaurant. After relaxing on the recliner seats our masseuses walked in and attended to our treatments Zanele promptly started massaging my mother Neck and shoulders and Zama began with my foot massage. Both treatment where a little longer than the 15 minutes which was to our advantage. My mother was “ooing and aahing” in ecstasy, and I was in complete bliss. My mother has been suffering with a shoulder injury for some time now and had been in great agony, her masseuse manipulated her shoulder to such an extent, zanele elevated the majority of her pain. Midway through our massages our cocktails had arrived, that we had previously ordered on arrival of booking the treatments, and oh my golly gosh how tasty these delights where. Me opting for a pina colada which was thick and creamy, maybe one of the tastiest I’ve experienced, and I like my cocktails, mom chose a shaken margarita which was tangy to the taste with a dash of sour. Definitely recommend swinging past for quick treatment.

Great value for money. Thorough massage and chilled atmosphere.

One of the best spas I've visited in a while. The ladies were amazing. The foot and neck massage was on point. The staff is very professional and they know what they are doing.

So fast, friendly staff and that Duck curry with Litchis is so delicious
Cinnamon Pancake
Lovely time out. The place is decorated beautifully. We got complimentary mini spring rolls on arrival and a complimentary tom yum soup as we sat down. Both were divine. We had the crispy duck and the Thai green curry with noodles. Both were delicious. The duck was cooked to perfection and the spices on it were amazing. The fried ice cream was nice. The service a bit slow. But a really good dinner.

Was very excited to eat thai food after a while and heard kai thai was a good place. Service is poor- no one came to ask us if we needed anything. Ordered the green curry and it looked like it was made from a packet powdered sauce it was artificially green and thick. The egg fried rice was also very average looked like it was made with froze veg. Was disappointed esp with the staff being asian shocked they can serve something like this. Very bad experience.

Absolutely delicious food, great service, great portions!!! Always make the effort to go here even if it’s during lunch hour to get a take away!!! Thank you guys!! Just need to up the vibe and probably give people a cultural experience to match the decor and crockery.
Alok Patro
Great thai ambience. Service is good.<br/>But the food is just average.<br/>Pad thai was non traditional and very spicy.<br/>The quantity is quite big for single serving.

Kai Thai, always a winner.<br/><br/>At a difficult time of the year for a Jewish diner, I was in need of something delicious and Passover friendly and Kai Thai was a great option.<br/><br/>A healthy portion of crispy duck and pineapple red curry hit the spot. Having always taken the safer option of chicken curry, I'm glad I chose something a little different. The textures of the duck and the not too overpowering curry make this a tasty and satisfying dish.<br/><br/>I'll certainly be back to explore more delicious curry options!<br/><br/>For more follow dazz1210 on Twitter and Instagram and visit www.morethanfoodmag.com<br/><br/>#JoziFoodie #ThisFoodieLife #MoreThanFoodMag #RealPeopleRealTalk

Had dinner here last night with family and friends before the Illusionist show. I had the crispy duck and lichi curry. Was fantastic. Would recommend it to everyone.

The service was a little strange. My  waitress was a bit of a lurker and wouldn't leave me with the menu to make a choice in peace. Then, there were items on the menu that she said were not available as she had never seen there before? I still don't understand why they were on the menu. With that being said, she was fairly efficient. The atmosphere of the restaurant is as you would imagine it to be. a bit dark though. The menu is quite broad, though the vegetarian options were quite limited. I had the green curry with noodles, and it was actually pretty good. and the spring rolls seemed fresh. <br/>Next time I am Monte to watch a show and have a hankering for Thai food, I may consider again.
Zama Sand
Ordered beef pad Thai and wasn't very impressed with the serving/ plating and the overall taste of the meal. Maybe it was just a bad day.<br/><br/>Service was okay. The ambience of the place was also pretty average. Maybe not my kinda vibe. But was worth the try.
Ria
Always good quality fresh food. Possibly my favourite restaurant!<br/><br/>Chilli cashew chicken, garlic stir prawns and tom yum soup are my favourites.<br/>Have the best margerita too! Tried out the fish with prawn top up, fantastic aromatic flavours!<br/><br/>Service is good as well. Its new location on Monte casino is a bit deserted but the food is still amazing. The spa is pretty good for quick massage as well.
Ashveer Deepnarrain
Kai Thai has much to offer in terms of taste and textures. A really good Thai Spot with really comfortable and warm decor. Friendly staff adds to the good rating. I had the chicken and cashew nut stir fry (my favorite Thai dish) with noodles - it was really pleasant. Just too less cashew nuts then expected from a stir fry meal. Overall, a good experience!

You can't get better Thai food than this in johannesburg. The duck and litchi curry is something I wouldn't normally try but is my favorite on their menu. Go next door for a great massage before as well. I'd go after but you might still be too full
Akash
Absolutely love this restaurant, I have tried all the outlets and the quality of food has been perfect every single time. I have tried almost everything on the menu but the firm favourites are the angry duck and the prawn green curry. The savoury mince starter is my regular choice and it never disappoints. The coconut ice cream is also a must try. Service is always good and efficient, so I will keep going back.

Kai Thai has moved to a different section in monte casino which is where Vaca use to be. The decor is still the same and the service was good. We had the chicken satay for starters with the peanut sauce. The chicken was a little stringy but the peanut sauce made up for that! For the main I had the crispy duck with litchis and wow what a flavorful combination!!! The duck was succulent and the litchis were surprisingly subtle. The portion sizes are big and definitely satisfying.

Sjo, not sure what went wrong but tonight was really not a great experience.<br/><br/>My chicken Masuman curry wasn't bad, but my partner's sweet & sour pork was dreadful. Meat was either completely overcooked or very old.<br/><br/>And then the service.... without being nasty, it felt like we walked into a scene of a zombie movie.<br/><br/>Definitely NOT a happy restaurant which is sad as I used to love it here.
Sesh
Definitely my favourite Thai place. Its been around for forever, but recently they relocated to the spot by the Pieter Torien theatre. I love that it was just a move and not a revamp, maintaining the original decor elements of gold statues, reds and browns. <br/><br/>On the food, when you order hot you get just that and added chilli condiments with a jug of water too. For starters the ribs and prawn in crispy blanket are my go to. My favourite mains are the stir fry cashew chilli chicken, the crispy basil pork and the green curry. You can add rices or noodles to the selection. The sauces and broths are flavorful and delicious. Portions are substantial as well.<br/><br/>They also do a variety of cocktails. Never had dessert here as nothing caught my eye.
Gabrielzaidman02
Used to be one of my favourite places to go to, but over the years, the service has dropped extremely low!!! Went there, we had 3 disgusting meals and then to top it all of, we saw a mouse running a round in the restaurant. I dread to think of what is in that kitchen! Would recommend to anyone to go there.
Shayna Yardley
Went with my mom for dinner before a show. Really a lovely ambiance with awesome food and great service. I would really recommend the vegetarian spring rolls that come with sweet chilli sauce and peanut butter sauce. Really a thin outer pastry...My mom had the red curry with coconut milk and I had the cashew chilli chicken! Such great food and service. Would really recommend this if you are looking for Authentic tasty Thai food!

So glad to see that Kai Thai are back to their roots. ( Tried to Westernize everything at some point). Great setting in their new spot as well.<br/><br/>Green papaya salad a firm favourite. Extensive menu with great curry choices. Sawadee ka! Feels like we are back in Thailand.
Nikz Paul
Awesome place. Been here a few times now, different occasions, always been a winner. Great setting, with really yum food. Definitely try the angry duck. Service is good, quick, and the food is full of flavor.

Just spend an evening in absolute ambiance and cuisine HEAVEN!<br/><br/>I went with my whole family (9 of us) and we were so stuffed by the end (due to lack of self control and overeating - the food was too good) that we couldn't even fit in desert.<br/>I've never been a fan of Thai food, but tonight's experience changed my mind completely... I might just be their newest most regular customer.<br/><br/>I enjoyed a multiple platter starter; spring rolls, chicken, and miniature pie looking goodies. With absolutely mouthwatering Peanut sauce and sweet chili sauce. I then basically swallowed my entire plate of crispy sweet and sour duck stir fry with egg fried rice!<br/><br/>WOW. <br/>I would recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE I know. The staff is friendly and efficient and the entire vibe and atmosphere is so beautiful and calm.
Robyn Louw
Ok, so the new location is quite obviously not as great as the old spot. The service was top notch though with authentic staff and themes throughout. The food was delicious. The Angry Duck a definite must... it's probably the best meal on the menu. Deep fried banana with ice-cream and peanut sauce takes you straight to heaven! Yum!!! Lovely place to go with friends for a quiet evening

Visited Kai Thai for dinner last night at their new spot. The restaurant has moved and is now situated at the old Cafe Vacca Mata. Our waitress was delightful and so good with us. Our food was delicious and of such large portions. We were a table of 4 and we ordered various dishes to try them all out. Our table tried the calamari basil, crispy pork, khao pad seafood and pad thai dish. Food is sent out quickly so if you're hungry you don't have to wait. The decor isn't anything spectacular but the food is definitely a hit for us.

Have been here two or three times...its been good considering i have gone back for me...it is a very aquired taste....the service was good and very relaxed conservative environment..

The Monte Casino Kai Thai has moved next to The Pieter Toerien Theatre. The new venue is nice but it lacks the balcony view that made the other venure different. <br/><br/>The presentation of the food seems to have taken a knock as well as a lot of the finishing touches seem to have been lost in the move.<br/><br/>The food is still great; and with great friendly service; it's just a pity some slthings look like they have been sacrificed for profitability.

A girlfriend and I enjoyed our first meal at Kai Thai together before an evening show ar monte. With our strong margaritas rimmed with salt already being enjoyed we decided to dive straight into mains. We ordered the Gaeng Musuman Chicken curry, mild, with rice and the Crispy Pork Basil and vegetables with noodles, to share.<br/><br/>Both dishes delicious and flavourful, while the Musuman was good we both agreed that the crispy pork was the winner for the evening. That pork was simply scrumptious crisped to perfection, the veg fresh and alive with colour. All complimented in the oyster sauce. I would definitely recommended it!<br/><br/>The Musuman has potato in which I feel is unnecessary, I would prefer other veg or more chicken. If you don't want too many carbs you may want to avoid ordering a side with this dish. You can not however faulted them on the flavour of both dishes. They were great!<br/><br/>You immediately step into an oriental world with the smell of insense waftling about and ornate decor makes it feel authentically Thai and reminds you of a visit to Thailand.<br/><br/>Service was average, waitress didn't introduce herself or ask if we had been before or make any recommendations which would of all taken the service to the next level. So not bad service but not wow. Nothing to complain about though.<br/><br/>A memorable evening started with great meal shared with a friend. We are still talking about that crispy pork today.

This is an amazing Thai restaurant which almost transports you to the far East. You'll struggle to find better service in any restaurant. From the owner right down to waiters and waitresses, every person was exceptionally welcoming and efficient. The food came quickly (really quickly), within 10 minutes of ordering. <br/><br/>The food was great, packed with all the colour and flavour you would come to expect of Thai food. However, forewarning must be given to chilli lovers that their 'hot' green curry can be, relative to other Thai restaurants in Johannesburg, easily handled as I had to order extra chillies on the side. <br/><br/>Overall an amazing ambience (albeit preferring the private feel of their old location), fantastic service and delightful food well worth the money.
KylieJDV
Everything about this reaturant is great. From the complementary neck massage to the delicious food and their oversized and well priced spring rolls!!! The food is on the more expensive side but very worth it. Would recommend sharing meals as they are quite large! Atmosphere is fabulous you feel transtported to Thailand.

Seldom I give 5/5. It was my first time trying a Thai Cuisine and I have to say I was not disappointed. I was worried about not liking the food. The experience was great. They have a decent list of alcoholic beverages. I truly enjoyed my meal and I am convinced my companions did too as we spoke about going back there again. They had a crispy duck and I had a Stir Fried Chilli Cashew served with pork. It was a pleasant meal.
Jolandi Engelbrecht
Djalita Butcher <br/>Was a fantastic dinner. The service was superb and the variety was huge. We received delicious welcome spring rolls
Charmaine
This is definitely my favourite thai restaurant. The egg fried noodles are so good I could easily eat them on their own. Service can be a bit slow sometimes but the food more than makes up for it.

We have been going to Kai Thai at Monte for many years and after a while away decided to go there tonight. What a wonderful experience! The food seems to have improved, the service was great and the value was excellent. An amazing experience all around!
Amy Lara Baxter
Kai Thai at Monte is situated upstairs with a lovely view. The decoration is amazing. It transports you into a thai-like world. <br/><br/>The peanut sauce with the spring rolls as a starter is my absolute favourite!<br/><br/>The phad thai is my favourite meal here! <br/>However, no matter what you order it will be delicious! I love this restaurant!
Arun
A great Thai restaurant at the Monte Casino. Good service. Large portions and authentic ingredients. A single dish is good enough for two. The crispy duck is especially good. Ask for extra spice for an extra kick! Decent collection of wines. Service is really fast. If authentic spicy Thai food rocks your boat, you will come back for more.

I love Thai food and this restaurant did not disappoint with serving a divine Thai dish. I ordered a prawn cashew curry with egg fried rice. The portion was full of flavor, however, having to order noodles or rice as an extra to your curry is really a turn off for me. I've been to plenty Thai restaurants all over the world and their stir fry and curry dishes automatically come with the choice of rice/noodles as part of the dish. <br/>Although the food was good, everything on the menu is over priced and the service is extremely slow. Had to wait 30 minutes for the waitress to serve us. Not sure if I will be eating here again.
Candi.smith@dimensiondata.com
Poor service, had to ask to be served drinks and serviettes thrown down, below average food - medium to hot ordered and was hardly mild and very insipid, premium prices charged.
Joydeep Majumdar
Had a great lunch the quality of food is quite good, but the quantities were a little disappointing . We have green curry prawns, red curry chicken and crispy fried pork in sweet and sour sauce, for main course and a starter platter. <br/><br/>The starter was quite good though mostly fried and stuff items like fried dumpling and spring rolls. The consistency of the fries were quite good as well as the flavor. <br/><br/>The main course was the killer, and the green curry prawns blew us apart, a sweet and a hint of hotness in the curry and the prawns succulent, was the best. The red curry was good too but the flavor of green curry was too overpowering for the senses. All the veggies were cooked to perfection. These paired excellent with both the egg noodles and the jasmine rice. <br/>The sweet and sour crispy pork was a damper. The sweet and sour balance was missing a bit to much of vinegar and pine apples. The crispy pork was way too crispy to the extend@ of being burned. <br/>The view of Casino and the bustle adds to an Asian ambiance. Overall a good Thai food restaurant.

This place is superb. If you love very good Thai food, Thai ambience with traditional Thai decor then this restaurant is definitely for you. Staff so welcoming and so warm. Service excellent. Love their personal touches, even in their lovely bathrooms. If you so wish, enjoy a Thai massage on your arrival. The food was superb. The attention to detail and presentation gives them a 10/10 score. The chilli wasn't as hot as I expected in fact come to think of it I don't think there was chilli in it at all! Despite this my food was delicious. The cashew nuts added to an enjoyable meal<br/>followed up with coconut ice cream. Loved their fried rice. We sat on a little balcony upstairs overlooking the Monte Casino cobbled streets. A lovely evening was shared by all and I'll definitely be back again.
Razmataz
Tucked away but recognizable by the tuk tuk outside. Good Thai food with lots of choice. I would not go there specially, but if you're at Monte and desire spicy food it is with a try
Anandie
Kai Thai is a firm favorite in our household. The food is absolutely stunning, especially the curries. With big portions,  big enough for two. The staff is very knowledgeable on the different dishes and flavours.
Thirusha Reddy
My first Thai food experience was at this very branch many years ago. The dishes I sampled on the night, a green thai curry, roast duck and a chicken pad thai were magnificent, so much so that it sparked within me a deep love for Thai cuisine.<br/><br/>I've expanded my culinary horizons a bit since then and have had the pleasure of dining at numerous other Thai establishments but sadly I now find Kai Thai's fare to be rather average in comparison. Overall KT is still a decent restaurant, but I would rather suggest the nearby Kong if you want to sample some truly exceptional Thai food.<br/><br/>PS: Request a table on the balcony when you visit, as the inside tables tend to be dark and a bit cramped.
MJ
Food was good! However not as good as Kai Thai in Parktown (which has a very thai flavour). The venue has a strange ambiance because its in a Casino.
Annabel
I always enjoy this Thai restaurant. The decor is authentic and when sitting on the balcony you feel as if you in Italy, so you get experience two countries at once in a way. The staff are always friendly and the food very good. One of the best restaurants at Monte
Neesha Fakir
Undoubtedly, this remains my favourite Thai restautant in Johannesburg. I normally frequent the one in Sunninghill. At face value, the decor was very fancy and kitch, however it was Monte Casino. We did not order starters though I wanted to try the chicken pops with chilli sauce and green beans since that is my favourite street food. The service was unquestionably friendly and the waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. For my main, I ordered the Red Curry with chicken which was perfect. Mango with sticky rice was out of season but when I cut through my banana fritters, it was delectable and melt on your mouth. A marvelous and fancy Thai cuisine experience.
Saiyuri
Delicious food, beautiful decor and great service! We came here for an early dinner this evening and was really impressed. They have an extensive menu, decided to have the angry duck and prawn cashew (medium for both dishes which is still quite hot!!!). Although the prices of the mains are quite pricey at R155 each, the serving size is very generous and the food is so good that it's worth it. Loved both dishes! The Angry Duck had crispy duck pieces combined with stir fry veg in a spicy curry - delicious! The Prawn Cashew had juicy queen prawns with stir fry veg in a rich coconut curry, the roasted cashews added an interesting texture to the dish and a lovely nutty flavour. All the staff were friendly and efficient! Will definitely return to try out more dishes from the menu.

Situated in the heart of Montecasino this restaurant is accessible via the basement or ground floor opposite our local radio station. The ambiance here is very welcoming, warm and authentic. <br/><br/>There is a wide variety of meals available that are freshly prepared for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. This visit was about the tenth time I have visited this branch. <br/><br/>Please note that fish sauce is used in a lot of the dishes here even in the vegetarian meals. You will need to check with the waiter if they can make you a yellow curry for example which contains no shrimp paste or fish sauce in the preperation of the meal.<br/><br/>I always find it a mission to try ascertain what is actually vegetarian or vegan at such as restaurant as the waiters are not well trained in this regard for special dietary requirements.<br/><br/>I have found that the spring rolls here are a bit too oily but the peanut sauce is very tasty and of a consistant quality. However, to complain, the vegetarian noodle dishes do not contain too much protein or a wide variety of vegetables as they are disguised in the noodles. I have had better dishes in Thailand so this was a bit disappointing. The curry was quite enjoable and tasty and spiced well but a bit overpriced.<br/><br/>The waiter did forget to bring the condiments for our table as well as some basic cutlery even though he was very pleasant.<br/><br/>The service was good except for the staff talking on the top of their voices across the restaurant which is unpleasant when you visit such a serene setting.
Jackied
The service was slow. The food was okay but nothing special which was rather disappointing since we have good food previously. The prices are about R20 more for a main than some of the other branches but definitely not R20 more value. We will go to the olive dale or randburg branch before we go back to the monte casino branch.
Philip Goosen
If you are looking for a place to satisfy your Thai craving search no further. The tom yum soo soup is amazing with clean flavours and the pork pad thai was a winner with the salty dried shrimps popping with the soft pork and crunchy peanuts...nice combination. However dining is not a one man band and although the food was good the service was not, worst of all was the plastic plates!!! For a place were you spend 500+ i would appreciate decent cutlery.
Jaime The Jambo
This restaurant is just luxurious. Just love the set up. So quaint and private. The food is so unbelievably good. Had the Tom Yum Goong soup, as our starter to share, just delicious. A Thai green curry with prawns, so succulent literally melt in your mouth. And the duck on a bed, could bring tears to your eyes if you appreciate good food. The manager/or owner is not even shy to get stuck in, in keeping her customers completely happy. Staff are on point and trained to a tee! Very impressive. Love. Jambo.
Chris Smyth
My crispy duck was average. Nice and crispy but bland. BH's mince in lettuce cups starter and crispy duck curry were superb. Worth a try.
Liza Richard
When the waiters are still brings out people's meals while others at the table are almost done totally ruins a dining experience. Tried having a birthday dinner here and what a horrible experience it was. Incorrect orders and just plain bad management. Don't have a function here!
Maulin Parekh
In one of the lanes of Montecasino, you have a small entrance to this place. I have been to Montecasino before and I didn't realise that a place exists. On entering, you need to climb the stairs to the restaurant. There is a beautiful Buddha statue in gold colour. Really good. Once you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with lot of red colour - ceiling and walls. A bit too much, thats what i felt. <br/>Coming to food, we ordered for 'Pak Tod' - deep fried vegetables and veg spring rolls. The spring rolls weren't that good. The filling was quite less compared to the outer layer. Pak Tod was okay - some of the vegetables tasted nice and some didn't. For the mains, we all wanted to taste the Thai red curry. With it, we had egg fried rice and jasmine rice. The red curry was super tasty. The vegetables inside the curry were well cooked and the curry was not overtly tasting of coconut milk. The egg fried rice was good but the jasmine rice tasted like normal steam rice. The service can be a bit slow and there were times, when there was no one around to serve us. The food quality is good and really liked the red curry.<br/> So 4 for the red curry but 0.5 less for the service and the jasmine rice.

I always enjoy the dining at Kai Thai. The food is always delicious. They also can serve quickly if asked, so it is a perfect restaurant to go to before a show.I was there last Thursday evening for supper. We shared the amazing spring rolls for starters. They come with a peanut and a sweet chili sauce, both of which are very tasty. As mains can become expensive, we shared the pork sweet and sour with basmati rice. It was more than enough and delicious. This was washed down with a margarita that was the perfect mix of sweet, salty and sour and a very generous glass of wine.I have had several of their curries and stir fries before, and I have to say they never disappoint.
TheOne
Well done Kai Thai, you have please the One. We've been here a few times now and the food is always good. The portions are generous and the decor reminds me of Thailand... The staff could be friendlier but with food this good, who cares?
ChrisDC
Whenever you go to a restaurant in a big group, you're never really sure how service will pan out. We were a table of 12, and the service was speedy and on point. The food was so so good. I had the crispy stir fry duck with egg fried rice, Really good flavors and cooked perfectly. Will be back soon!
Jane Van Blommestein
Wonderfully tasty Pad Thai (huge portion), well priced wine and attentive service from Lola😊 also known as Rora☺️ thanks for a lovely evening, we'll be back!

Great menu, experience, staff and efficiency. They deserve the best Thai Restaurant rating for all these years. The Khao Phad, Crispy Duck highly recommended.
Dolls & Dan
I love Kai Thai! It's a fuss-free thai dining experience. It's one of my favourite spots and is perfect for a quick sit-down or take-away (no matter which branch I go to).<br/><br/>My favourite branch is the Montecasino branch, because it's a great step away from Monte (if you sit inside), and it's a lovely option for a pre-movie or pre-teatro show. I'm a sucker for the Phad Thai, and always turn to that when I'm unsure, but my new favourite meal is the sweet and sour crispy pork. This HAS to be eaten fresh -- it goes a bit chewy on take-away or as leftovers -- and is SO yummy. The pork won tons are also some of my FAVOURITE things (in the whole wide world) and should never be passed up! The incense is a bit much and the prices may seem a tad unreasonable, but I'd recommend Kai Thai as a great spot if you're in the mood for authentic thai food. <br/><br/>Also... Their frozen margarita was perfection.
Chantelle Le Roux
From the busy walkway of Montecasino, you are transported into a serene setting which immediately makes you feel calm and relaxed. <br/><br/>On this particular occasion, we opted for light meals so that we could eat and go to be in time for the ballet.<br/>The staff are quiet, but efficient & very quick. We made the ballet on time!<br/><br/>An average chicken satay (chicken slightly on the dry side) with a tasty peanut sauce & a green papaya salad was sufficient to fill me up, but I can't say I was wowed. <br/><br/>I usually order a curry or a stir fry, and I highly recommend these dishes... Thai food at it's finest.<br/>The mild curries are actually mild enough without losing any flavour. <br/>I'll be back for a curry very soon!
Hana
Yay! I've found another great Thai restaurant. The service was quick and efficient without feeling hurried and the food was great. Started with a small chicken soup with glass noodles which was delicious. I didn't know I liked chicken mince until today. We went on to eat the pad thai and the starter platter for 2. We were so full and we just kept picking at the food it was so tasty. The veggies were perfectly cooked and not the soggy mess we have come to expect from Asian restaurants. The starters were not overly greasy and I did not walk away with a sore stomach which happens so often after a plate of spring rolls. My favourite would probably be the dumplings on the starter plate. Very light and crisp. It's worth the money and the portions are a good size and the service is fast. Will definitely come again.
Tables And Thyme
Good, reliable and consistent Thai food. The upstairs section feels more like a restaurant and less like you're inside a casino - part of the appeal for this location. Wine menu is a bit basic with mainly entry level wines. But order beer or fruity cocktail instead - much better with the chili! I recommend ordering a salad, soup, curry and stir fry and then sharing between you. Great way to balance food flavored and enjoy tastes of everything. Green papaya salad is delicious and this branch usually has it available. Good service from well trained staff.

Amazing Crispy duck with Jasmine Rice, duck was tender on the inside and very crispy on the outside! Red Mixed seafood curry was "top notch". Service was fair and atmosphere on the outside terrace, rounded off the meal experience!!!

Absolutely amazing! Was a bit nervous to have the crispy pork - but was so surprised! It was like eating crackling... Yummy! Lovely atmosphere, wonderful food, can't wait to go back!<br/>

The food at Kai Thai is always absolutely delicious! No matter what you order, you can be guaranteed tasty amazing food, big portions and friendly staff. The prawn red curry comes highly recommended!

Generous portions and good food. My side plate was dirty/oily which was not a good start to the experience though. Music a little bit loud from time to time.<br/>

Really good food, awesome taste and experience. Went here on my birthday and I was very pleased with the course that I ordered. The phad thai and angry duck are definite musts. Good clean flavours and fresh ingredients. The service is good also. Some would complain about the few visits to the table but since our dinner was a quiet one, the waitress kept it that way but stayed in sight to attend to our requests.

Kai Thai (No matter which branch) always leaves me completely satisfied. The service is great and the food is absolutely delicious. It's no wonder that they won best Thai restaurant in JHB for so many consecutive years.

This restaurant is Thai heaven. My partner and i have to hold back from dining here more than once a week. The angry duck is amazing, so is the prawn red curry and the green curry with any of the protein options. The savoury mince starter is a must try, the lettuce is always crispy and fresh, the flavours are fantastic.  Other restaurants could learn volumes about the service and level of food preparations. I will keep going back for more.

Maybe just a bad evening but our dinner here was just not worth the price. Inferior wine by the glass straight from the box. No other options. Nobody to seat us once we got to the top floor. Standing around. Sweet and sour pork sauce tasted straight from the bottle. Crispy pork was deliciously crispy. Service was pretty intrusive with lots of armpit stretching over us. Overpriced. Over R100 for a mediocre fried rice us not fair. Pretty decor.

One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to. Amazing decor, excellent service and really delicious food!
Pieter Claassens
Love the décor and the menu made my mouth water. However, it wasn't the best crispy duck I ever had, it tasted a bit bland and the stir fry veggies could have done with a few extra minutes.

Food always of the same standard. Meals delivered super fast. ...which makes me wonder how much is pre prepared<br/><br/>Wine by the glass selection is out of the box. ..

A very good Thai restaurant. Food was really nice and the Red Curry is a definite must. The Phad Thai also a good choice though. Skip the deep fried ice cream-a bit soggy and not really the crunch you're after

Great atmosphere, the portions are huge.Food is tasty and the waiters very attentive and take time to explain the menu.I enjoyed the crispy duck with fried rice.

Love love this place forties themed thai food, and it's most wonderful dress code - admittedly have not tried the food, but fried ice cream will send you to heaven and back on the best cloud ever.... The delicous flavours will have you engulfed in this movie moment as you fly snuggly into heaven! Do I really need to say more - try it you won't regret it! <br/><br/>

Always love the Kai Thai Restaurants and Spa's! With reference to this one in particular, I absolutely love the Decor, it's stunning. Food is always good! Had to Tom Yum Goong last time and it was quite delicious. Service is also very good. So, definitely one of my favourite Thai restaurants.

There's a reason this place was voted top Thai restaurant 5yrs in a row. If you like it spicy as much as I do.....you wont be disappointed. The best Asian Crispy Duck to blow those taste buds out the water. Putting you in the most traditional Panang setting......food takes you 1000's of kms out of your seat

Absolutely amazing food, service and cocktails. What more can you ask for? This is definitely the best out of all the Kai Thai branches. Also, the setting is stunning both inside and outside with a lovely view of the casino without it being too noisy. A fantastic place to go for a delicious dinner with friends or for a more formal event such as a business dinner.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Kai Thai. The service was great but most of all the food was excellent. Best Thai food so far in JHB. The ambiance was also added to the experience. It is evident that a lot of time and effort goes into preparing each table with it's full jug of water and stunning linen. Definitely would recommend this restaurant. It is pricey but worth it!

Kai Thai MonteCasino was my first Thai experience and the food was truly special. My Thai cuisine virgin was broken with absolute bliss, the waitress was very attentive and the Museman Curry is an absolute must. My companion had drunken duck which was truly tasty. Do yourself a favor and try this place. ..

I love that food. But I was throughly disappointed. Didn't enjoy the food or the service. I wouldn't go back in any rush.

If you in the mood for Thai food then Kai Thai is the place to go. It could quite possible have the best Thai food in Johannesburg. This is why the have been winning the awards for so many years<br/><br/>I love Thai food so I always recommend that you try new thing on the menu as it is very easy to get stuck on one dish but they all delicious.

Relaxing ambiance. Some of the best Thai food in town. My favourite dish is the crispy duck stir fry. A table at the balcony is a plus.

Went for dinner with friends. Try get a seat on the balcony. Totally worth it! Food was great! Loved their starter platter. Always enjoy the coconut milk with my meal. Decor is super cool and the waiters are friendly. Portions are big.

Kai Thai in Monte is one of my favorites - their food is delicious and prices reasonable for what you get. I love the crab curry...a bit messy but super yum :-)

Please dont use the menu on this website as a pricing reference . It is extremely outdated and the real current prices at the restaurant are double , in some cases triple what you see here . Be warned .

The food was very average for this restaurant. I ordered the Thai green curry and spring rolls. The Waiters and decor was really good, but was not impressed with the food.

This Kai Thai is definitely my favourite for a sit down meal - the others do just fine for take-away. But the ambience at this Kai Thai is great, the decor is lovely and the set up is beautiful. I love to sit in the "outside" balcony section. The service hasn't ever really disappointed me (I did once wait quite a long time for food but once it arrived it was yummy so no complaints). The food has never disappointed me - I absolutely love the crispy pork main dish. Overall this is a lovely place to go out for dinner with some friends or with your partner. the atmosphere is nice and overall the experience is great. I have been here numerous times and will continue to go.

Definitely the nicest of the Kai Thai branches. Obviously the food is good, but the best is the stunning atmosphere.<br/><br/>Will be back many times.

Kai Thai in Monte is the best one around Johannesburg in my opinion. Its beautifully decorated and inside is well laid out will intimate sections and a great area out on the balcony. Their service is very good and you feel welcomed and at home from the minute you step inside. They do really amazing starters and their platters are so delicious and you get to have a little taste of all the favorites. They do a moreish delicious peanut butter sauce that just tastes so good with their chicken skewers. My favorite dish there is their Gaeng Panang curry. I've also tried their crispy duck main dish and it was pretty fabulous!! The food is quite pricey but definently on par with the excellent food and service you get here. This place is great to go for a romantic dinner or for a special dinner with family and friends. This place is a gem! Don't forget to book on weekends.
Rebecca Franks
One of my favourite places to eat out. It has a great atmosphere and the food is always great. The Chicken Stir Fry is not greasy like some other places that try to mimic it. The entrance is cool as you go up a lift to get into it. You might miss the place if you don't look for it. There are usually people sitting outside getting massages.<br/><br/>Lovely decorations and kind of makes you feel like you are in Thailand (not that I have ever been). Worth a visit.

If you like seafood then you must try the crab curry. This is the best seafood dish ever..however if you lack patience and don't like getting your fingers dirty then this is not the dish for you. <br/><br/>Not for the faint hearted a full crab is served with this and you have to pry the meat out of it. Absolutely delicious!<br/><br/>Staff are polite and efficient. A definite must try!

Don't let the tank of fish nibbling on crazy people's feet outside scare you off. Apparently, this is quite normal and the fish enjoy it. It is part of a spa treatment as the Kai Tai brand offer spa services as well.<br/><br/>I have two favorite Thai restaurants, this is one of them. Even though it's situated in the hustle bustle that is Monte Casino, the location of this restaurant (upstairs) actually allows you to distance yourself away from the casino madness and enjoy a delicious meal.<br/> <br/>All your traditional and favorite Thai dishes are on offer - from starters to mains and desserts, everything tastes fresh, authentic and delicious. Prices are very reasonable, service friendly and efficient.

I love Thai food and Kai Thai never disappoints. Of all the Kai Thai restaurants, this is the best. I would recommend getting a big group together and sharing dishes, there is just so much deliciousness on the menu:<br/><br/>The angry duck is sufficiently angry. The phad thai is perfect. And then there are so many yummy Thai curries and stir fries.
