Review Fournos Bakery Benmore - Johannesburg

Went there for brunch. Nice food, good servuce, delicious bakery goods to take home.

The Fournos franchise is renowned all over Jozi for serving great bakes and cafe food. I'm just going to be blunt and say that this branch doesn't meet up to the standards of others I've been to and here's why. Stores like to offer you a variety, but if you're known for Mediterranean style eats and drinks why follow trends and offer something as baffling as a bowl of ramen? And if you do offer it, at the very least make it delicious. My companions were rather underwhelmed by their ramen in its entirety. What I ate (Half roast chicken with a side salad) was just OK. It tasted good but when even the breast is on the dry side, that's a problem. Service was brisk, friendly and courteous enough to offer me substitutions because the juice I wanted was unavailable. I would like to suggest to all franchisees to have the consistency of your franchise, but also to step it up a bit when it comes to your individual store. Small differences keep your regulars very happy indeed and recommendations flow from them.

Pretty is such a friendly waitress, she already knows I have a cappuccino in the mornings and won’t even wait for me to order. She has it ready in a few minutes. She is attentive and efficient.

Fresh food, their muffins are tasty and the service is excellent. The atmosphere is nice and warm. I really enjoy buying food there

Fresh food. Service is a little shaky but only because everyone loves it so much. But they are friendly will help you politely and kindly. The food looks great before you even taste it 😋

I really loved the pasta, will definitely go back to exposure other meals

Morning i didn't like the response i was getting from the cashier this morning when i ask her if they will bring my tea to me.. she said go and fetch it yourself when you buy from pick n pay you do all these things by yourselves now that you at fournos you expecting me to around for you like a headless chicken "in isiZulu"... hhayi bo that's me..was not expecting that from you i will rate you.. she said with pleasure... hhayi bo.. didn't even drink that tea it was leaking all the way because of anger from the cashier i just throw it out the window.

Awesome place for grabbing a breakfast and coffee. Always have freshly made cakes and breads. It's a must visit if you have not been

Always a good breakfast or brunch outing, the omelette served is always good value for money.

Always have them supply the platters for our work functions. Excellent quality

Woman at till is always infectiously friendly and happy. Great pies and muffins at this branch.

More than just a bakery....nice spot to grab a decent breakfast and/or lunch. Breakfast options varied and taste good. Service was prompt, and everything was fresh.

The breakfast is normal. Not a big fan for their Benedict, the egg taste strange. The tart is great though. The fresh juice is nice but avoid the ginger flavor.

Love the freshly baked chocolate croissants here. They also have a great spread of Deli during lunch hours . The service is usually good but could slow down during break hours and over the weekend . The seating arrangement is a bit cramped . I wish they could work on it and keep it more spacious and ventilated.

Been going there for years. Always had good food at reasonable prices. All changed now. Used to include certain extras like fries with meals-now apply extra charge. Salads were generous servings. Now much smaller helpings at increased prices. Last time I went there it was pretty empty. Can’t management figure out why?

Really have nothing bad to say an amazing Bakery nothing is better then fresh bread,i love what i do as a chef but we all need a Fournos Bakery now and then.👍

With my experience at Fournos, this one has not let me down. I had the bacon, avocado and feta wrap and it was tasty though about fifty percent was greens such as lettuce. Feta was moist and creamy and bacon was crispy but not fatty. Avocado was nutty and ripe. I highly recommend the bakery and deli which serves some delicious pastries, samosas and artisan breads.

I went here for breakfast and was so impressed with the Shakshouka, honestly one of the best that I have had in Johannesburg!! The prices are also reasonable.

Unfortunately the construction doesn’t make breakfast to pleasant at the moment and the service was a bit slow.

I went to this place to actually check if they had WiFi but I ended up eating there. Their pastas are out of this world! I hear that the custard tarts are a thing here but I wasn't feeling like dessert so I didn't try it. I would definitely go back since it's a really nice and quiet place after the lunch hour rush.

I often drop by to buy their freshly baked olive bread & chocolate croissants. I have eaten many of their pastries - apple tarts, pecan nut - they are really delicious. Nice place to stop by for breakfast, it does get a bit noisy but a nice atmosphere. Good for quick takeaway treats or a sit down meal if you do have time. Service is good.

Lunch has never been so quick and convenient. I love Fournos Benmore for their buffet and good service. It’s always nice to sit down and enjoy your meal but when you have deadlines, want something on the go or are being antisocial (like I was today 🙊🙈), this is definitely your go-to spot
Base Morekure
There is so much variety by way of the menu. The freshly baked croissants are always a treat. For fresh baked treats and scrumptious sandwiches this is your go to place

I enjoy fournos. It's the closest to a Greek bakery that you will get in this country. Fresh bread, pastries and daily meals....its a good place for a good meal. The coffee is good too.. always hot, never burnt. Breakfasts can very from good tongreat, really depends what day you catch them on. A nice spot if you in the area and want a quick meal.

Service could be much better, food is good, although which cafe these days still serves canderel aspertame as a sweetener, please serve one that is not poison, just for this reason I will avoid going here again until the owner realizes this simple thing

Fournos has always been a breakfast favourite for us. We've been to this particular Fournos on many occasions. We had some shopping to do at Benmore so we decided to pop into Fournos for a quick breakfast.

The place was packed as usual but we managed to get a table inside. To drink, I ordered a cappuccino, which really good. I loved the small piece or biscotti they serve with their coffees. I wasn't too sure what I wanted to eat but finally settled on ordering the Fournos Benedict with spinach and feta. My eggs were cooked medium just like I asked for and the English muffin was delicious but I did find that there was a little too much spinach on the plate, which made the overall dish a little bitter.

The service was good and despite the restaurant been quite busy, our waitress managed to speed up our order as we had told her that we were in a bit of a hurry. Fournos is a great breakfast place and has the most amazing baked goodies to offer! I'm sure we'll be back.

Fournos is dependablen for when a craving for the sweet stuff hits. Visited and was attractive to this mountain of Greek shortbread...it was so fresh and the almonds were roasted perfectly. Also had a chocolate hazelnut croissant...this is new to the menu...it's gonna become a favourite 🥐🥐🥐

I don't have high expectations of a toasted sandwhich, and the chicken mayo on brown bread was just that, pretty average. It comes with a decent side salad. Yay!, I thought, but it arrived covered in a yellowish salad dressing :(
Dear restaurants, do not assume that customers want salad dressing on their salad! I often forget to ask to have dressing on the side. Dressing adds flavour and calories and as such should not automatically be part of a salad. The server should at least remind one that there will be a dressing and ask if one would like to have it. Less food will be wasted when fewer side salads are discarded because they taste like nondescript dressing from a bottle.

Had a lunch meeting at Fournos today, and had a very positive experience. Coffee was good, service was also very pleasant.

The menu had some great options and eventually settled on the quinoa oats with blueberries and pecans which was very tasty. Our waiter Patrick was fantastic and made for an enjoyable lunch...

Love that Fournos is open from 6am :) had a great healthy vegan breakfast - toasted rye bread with avocado, olives, artichokes and chili drizzled with olive oil. All ingredients were fresh, so reasonably priced and beautiful service. The restaurant is so close to the parking which makes it so accessible.

An above average Fournos, really love the breakfasts here. They seem to do just do breakfasts so much better here.
Well worth a stop.

Top tip like all Fournos they get crazy Busy. So go early

Looking for a good breakfast spot? This is defs the best place to go if you're in the Benmore area and are not feeling the buzz of busy Sandton City. They offer a variety of baked goods from savory to sweet which you can either browse and choose at your own discretion or ask your waiter for a recommendation. They also have a menu which you can order hot food. This is also a bakery so if you just want to pop in for some bread don't be shy cause they will definitely help you and you won't feel like you're intruding on people's dining experiences.

Nice breakfast spot for deli type open sandwiches with toppings of your choice or a classic 3 egg omelette and toppings served with fresh cut fries. It's a hearty breakfast that will keep you going throughout your business day.
The freshly baked croissants are always a winner to pick up for office meetings or to enjoy with a nice cup of coffee
In the morning. Plain or cheese are my regular morning pick ups along with a filter coffee to go.

I came across this "not so little" gem by pure accident, I was just gonna have a cappuccino but after checking out the menu I settled on the Portuguese chicken wrap and boy was I blown away, so much so I had another to go. It was absolutely delicious. The service was superb too!!
Natasha Fryer
This was one of the most unpleasant lunches I have ever had.
The service was not good at all- our waitress seemed totally uninterested and continuously forgot what we had ordered.
We had toasted sandwiches which were nice. However we were DISGUSTED to find a big, live worm in our side salad!!!
The manager sincerely apologised and offered us coffee and a pastry on the house. This meal was also not charged to us. She did handle the situation very well but it did not help with the terrible surprise we found on the plate.
To put the cherry on top, the staff started to pack up and clean for the day- pretty much mopping over our feet and removing the sugar from our table while we still had coffee in front of us. This was a good 30minutes before their indicated closing time.
I was heavily unimpressed with the whole experience and I will definitely not return to this Fournos. I would suggest you do the same.
Sushi-Sue
excellent manager and floor staff- WOW WOW WOW you make this centre worth coming too and the food selection is fresh and fantastic. You should be very proud of yourselves xx

This place is always busy and we have coffees here a number of time. We decided to go for breakfast this time. The restaurant is at the entrance between parking lot and shopping center and gets very busy but it's great for people watching and they open the sliding Windows so it feels like you are seated in the walkway - great. We ordered the eggs Benedict and the normal breakfast with eggs & sausage. All good and service is very good.

Came to Fournos for a quick bite to eat in my work lunch break. I went for their pre-prepared selection of meals -they have salads, antipasti type ingredients, pastas as well as some hot prepared meals. They also have a sandwich area where you can pick and choose your own ingredients and build your own sandwich. I chose some Greek salad, artichokes and Melanzane which were all good. Their service was quite quick and efficient behind the deli counter but I'm not sure how the sit down service is as I didn't have time for this today. There were a couple flies flying around here and there so I would suggest in the future to maybe keep the meals covered.

They also have a wide variety of sweet treats such as chocolate and nutella croissants-which are to die for, shortbread, swissrolls, florentines, pecan pies, and freshly baked daily bread!

I also often come here to get large platters for some business meetings that we have on VERY short notice (which are meant to be ordered at least a day in advance), and the manager/owner always goes the extra mile to provide to my needs in the quickest time possible- sometimes even within an hour they have managed to fill a large platter order.

Fournos is a great place to pop in to grab some freshly baked treats. They offer a vast selection of breads, pastries and desserts that fill the room like exquisite pieces of culinary art.

If there's one thing I can say with certainty from sampling foods from more than one Fournos bakery is that they are very consistent with their goods. Another thing to point out is that they have to make the best chocolate croissant's in Joburg!

This Benmore branch has served me well so far with only a handful of little hiccups when it comes to service and a slightly unflattering fly problem.

Their chocolate croissants are of the standard that Fournos has come to be known for and they also have some really delicious sorbet and ice cream varieties to grab on the go.

I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and order a meal here yet but I can definitely see that happening in the near future.

Breakfasts at Fournos are my favourite, followed very closely by their Chicken Mayo Double Toasted Croissants! Their menu in general covers a lot and I still sometimes struggle to decide what to eat. I can happily say I have eat here more than 50 times and never had a bad meal. The restaurant tends to get very busy around weekday lunch time and on weekends but they have perfected their service and the wait is never long. I love the baked good everywhere and always leave with a bags full of breads and treats for home. If I am on the go the build-your-own-sandwich bar is a massive winner in my books! There is nothing like a fresh sandwich, the quality of their freshly made breads and cold meats is fantastic. The only bad thing I have to say is that I do not enjoy the atmosphere created from sitting in a "basement" parking lot - especially on weekends when there are tons of cars coming and going.

Sept 13 late morning: Breakfast at Fournos is always welcome. After visiting Rosebank, we went to the outlet at Benmore. This time, decided to have a salad to start with. There is a selection of salads and you pay by weight. The salad was fresh and tasty and needed after a drinks night out. My wife had a sandwich. Again, you have a choice of breads and fillings and then pay by weight. Alongwith that, ordered for fresh orange juice. This has to be one of the best orange juice we have had. We repeated our order for orange juice - it was so good. The others had the light breakfast - sausage, fried egg and bread. Though the service was good, somehow, the server forgot to get the bill and we had to wait for sometime to get our bill. However, breakfast was good and hearty.

Often come to the fournos in Benmore and order the Double Croissant filled with Chicken Mayo. The croissants are generously filled and the flavours are good, a nice twist is to add crispy bacon. We then normally move on to the pastry section and choose a few items to eat. I would recommend their pecan tarts and their custard slices.

I had the odd breakfast here in December for a business meeting. This place was quite busy on the weekend and service a good and hearty breakfast. Their bread selection is always fresh and their fresh food is of a good standard. Unfortunately the service is not the best but I will be back again when I am in the area. I haven't had a chocolate croissant at this branch but I am sure they are if the same standard as other branches - one of the best around. There is a good variety of items here for vegetarians and they are quite accommodating.

The perfect place for a quick breakfast in the morning. They open at 6:30 for the very early birds but soon after this bakery gets packed! There are quite a few tables but they feel a little cramped and on top of one another. Despite this the service is spectacular and the food is good value for money. It's always wonderful sitting amongst the smell of freshly baked goods :)

The menu here is really good and I always struggle to decide on what to eat.
The 3 Bruscetta (with optional extra slice for R16) is a great choice to share with a friend when you are hungry, but not famished.
The toppings are very generous and the meal even comes with a small side salad.

I ordered the bacon, tomato and mozzarella cheese and the roast beef and red onion marmalade toppings on olive bread, and enjoyed every mouthful.

The service is very good and the waiter constantly checked on us to make sure we were happy.

Sitting outside, you overlook a parking basement, so you lose some of the atmosphere, I would suggest sitting inside for a nicer experience, but it does get very busy over lunchtime - be warned!

Whenever I walk into this Fournos, it feels like I walked into a European coffee shop. It has a warm feeling, you are greeted by a smile and very helpful staff. Apart from their pastries, their food is divine and you get real value for money. This is my favourite outlet. Try the chocolate croissants! The breakfasts are really good and service is good.

I visit this Fournos at least every week, and I am always satisfied with their service in particular. If I stand around for one minute, a waitress or even the manager is around to assist with whatever I need. Popped in there once, just before 5 and they ran out of samoosas. And they insisted on frying fresh ones for me. And of course, the chocolate croissants are divine. Keep up the good service!

I just love their self service kiosk . . It's my kitchen away from home... Always offers a great variety of healthy appetizing veggies. You can never go wrong

Fournos in Benmore Gardens has been around as long as I can remember, and is famous for its delicious breads and coffees. Another positive that I love about them is that they adhere to their: "NO preservatives, NO flavourants, NO colourants" policy! Whats not to love about this bakery & eatery?

*Recommendation: You simply cannot go wrong with Fournos in Benmore, if you are in the area and looking for a good breakfast!

For more, find me on Twitter: LaurasW0rld

An awesome place for baked delicacies and breakfast. The one at Benmore is always crowded on a Sunday, you will have to wait to get a place. We have always ordered cakes at furnos during birthdays and its been an amazing experience. I just love their Croissants and muffins.

If it is the nicest cake or confectionary for the office birthday this is the place.
The chocolate ganash cake is to die for.
Convenient and close to office to pop in for quick lunch.
Enjoy their fresh made on the spot smoothies

Perfect for breakfast or a quick lunch. Average pricing.
I always have the fournos breakfast-see picture
They are always buzzing.
Id recommend their special made juice. R30 each
Super healthy and very delicious.

Took my colleague from out of town here one lunchtime as she goes mad for croissants in SA and i insisted they make the best chocolate croissants. This branch happened to be the closest to our offices.

We ordered the spinach and feta ravioli to share and 2 croissants with coffee. The service was extremely slow. The ravioli was not cooked properly it was raw and the filling was dry and tasteless even after adding salt and pepper etc. The croissant was disappointing it didnt taste like the usual fournos quality. I felt so bad.
Think i will stick to the airport branch or Dunkeld as their quality hasnt failed me yet :-( the only interesting thing was these cakes in the window

I don't know why it took me so long to stumble into this delicious bakery. Having been out of Brasil for so long now, I didn't realize how much I really missed the 'kilo' restaurants. Fournos has just that, a delicious buffett of fresh salads, meats... you simply pay for what you eat! They also have a monstrous selection of bakery delights and fresh juices :-)
Nafisa Akabor
When you go to a bakery, you expect the staff working on the floor to know exactly what's on the display tables that they're selling. Not so at this branch. I popped in to get some samoosas, and when I asked the waitress at the table what flavours were currently on sale, she told me she didn't know! And she didn't seem to care. I didn't bother with anything else, just left the store, very annoyed. Service levels desperately need to be stepped up.
Satish Ajodha
I really enjoy the buffet, good variety, Melanzane is awesome. Service is excellent, even when very busy during lunch on weekdays. Pastry options always a winner.

The Fournos at Benmore Gardens gets really busy on Sunday mornings for breakfast so you end up waiting for a while to get a table and then you wait some more before being served. Their meals are tasty and I generally opt to swop out the bread in my meal with a fresh croissant. You can't not buy some breads or pastries on your way out and again service is slow because of the number of patrons but the croissants alone are well worth the wait.
Fatima
This week I decided to actually enjoy a sit-down breakfast here. I had the smoked salmon and avocado rosti. I found it quite nice. A small change from my favorite Sunday breakfast of choice which is eggs benedict with salmon. This had a rosti which was quite different, but I found it a bit salty. The avocado salsa was quite good and matched the salmon and cream cheese perfectly.

My husband had the veggie bagel breakfast which he rated as, 'OK.' Clearly he is a man of many words when it comes to meal reviews ;)

If you don't want to sit down for a meal, you can always purchase the delicious breads on offer. I normally like to grab a few chocolate croissants, french bread and go on my way.

I think this place is the star of the Benmore Garden -atleast on Sunday morning.

They have a huge place - still gets very hard to get a seat on Sunday mornings. Wide range of bakery items are spread out in the table and you can go and choose as per your liking.

Breakfast items are great - try the pancakes or the french toast. Try picking up the croissants and muffins. :)
