Review Mike's Kitchen - Johannesburg

Patrick Claassens
Probably the most beautiful Mikes Kitchen in the city. The old architecture and well kept outside area gives this place a homely feel. The milkshakes are heavenly and the food just as good. Only complain I have is that my steak was very unevenly cooked. The one side was medium going onto well done and the other rare and I asked for medium rare. The staff that helped us was very friendly and sparked great conversation with us. I will definitely recommend to give this place a visit, even if it is just to give the house it is built in a good look at.

We were seated at a table in a lovely garden setting under a gazebo. Excellent service from Lesedi she was very friendly and efficient. The food was fresh and served in large portions as well as delicious milkshakes. I was served a complimentary cheesecake for my birthday which was a pleasant bonus. Great place to have lunch.

Booking was easy, Table was ready upon arrival. We were greeted with smiles from the minute we walked in . All staff members were friendly and welcoming. Our waiter, Aphelele, was absolutely fantastic! He was attentive and added to our enjoyment of the evening with witty banter. The food was absolutely out of this world! All round a lovely birthday celebration was enjoyed by all. Thank you. 🌟 No wonder that this remains a favourite spot.

The food was really great. It's value for money because the portion sizes are big. I suggest when you really crave a burger try the jaw breaker. Our waitress also gave great service. The place is cozy.
Kamohelo Lefuma
Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere eating outside. Our table was under the shade of trees and the umbrella as well, the air was so refreshing there considering the heatwave going on now.

The service was good we didn’t wait long for the food and the lady who served us was amazing. I had the kingklip and grilled calamari which was great. We also had the shack burger which was nice. My child ordered the chicken and mushroom pizza from the kids menu. Family friendly restaurant with a great outdoor area.

From the moment we walked into the door we had an incredible experience. The manager welcomed us in. They quickly took our drinks orders. The children played on the lawn outside because unfortunately there is no longer a kiddies play area as in the online picture. However that doesn't steer away from fun. Crayons and pictures to colour and a kiddies menu are available. They made a spud for me even though it's no longer on the new menu. The food is so fresh. It's delicious and a unique menu. The service was so attentive and with some forethought. Well done Mike's Kitchen.

Great food, service was OK and could be better. No enthusiasm or assistance with menu unless we specified. But always loved the place so yes it was good to be back.

A beautiful and serene dining experience. Delicious food that's served with a smile. Lots and lots of options to choose from, including a ton of options of vegetarians and vegans. Service is unparalleled, everyone has a smile and everyone's attentive. Loved the experience. Will definitely be back for more. P.S the mushroom + spinach + tofu toastie with a hint of hot red chillies is highly recommended.

Nice chilled vibes. Food portions good and looks as it does on pics. Service quick and efficient.

There was a very friendly cat that kept the kids entertained by his antics. The staff were very friendly. The milkshakes looked great and were very nice. We had a side of onion rings, chicken schnitzel and burgers. The food was very nice and perfectly prepared. The onion rings that came with the burgers were completely different to the side portion of onion rings. The onion rings that came with the burgers were not nice. There were some amazing sounding drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) that sounded very appealing

I attended a birthday party of a dear friend. The food was scrumptious, service outstanding and the portions good value for money. My starter of garlic mushrooms, spinach and cheese with bacon was enough as a main meal. I appreciate the care provided to the cat 🐈‍⬛ 😃 I visited again, and am glad to say… I support my previous review… I can add that the crème brûlée is a múst! 😃

Fabulous food and excellent service in a very pleasant environment in the garden.

My husband took me here earlier this year and we went back recently. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. The food and beverage is great (no complaints), an ideal place for Christmas lunches (companies). Mike's kitchen as a whole brings back childhood memories 🤍🙏 Hi Manny, I was there yesterday and the service was disgusting. My husband waited 45 minutes for a glass of tap water, we had 4 waiters taking our very simple order. We were treated very poorly (I am not sure if this is a result of my husband and I not spending excruciatingly amounts of money for a snack before we went to a market?!)

my girlfriend took me there for lunch on my birthday. The food was very good, i tried the T-bone and wings and their salmon. great service from our waiter cant remember his name properly i believe it was Methe something but when where were about to leave he come with a birthday dessert which was on the house. You guys made my birthday worth remembering.
Eloize Mellet
What a lovely evening out. Great food, ample portions and a lovely Chardonnay paired

Nice place for breakfast. Friendly staff, plenty of parking and beautiful architecture
Melissa Griesel
Visited Mikes Kitchen for my birthday this year and had the best experience. Beautiful outdoor tables. The food was great as was excellent with classics like steak and burgers. But, they have updated their menu to have more modern/healthy meal options too. Always a treat to have a sparkler and slice of cake and ice cream on your special day. Waiters and manager were all attentive, friendly and helpful. My

A wonderful time out and welcoming, friendly staff. We arrived without booking during load shedding and it doesn't present the slightest bit of hassle to them. They accommodated our modified meal requests brought us a food experience to die for! Even the portion sizes were beyond expectations! Thanks Mike's. We are truly your fans ever since the first take away we got from you!

Love everything about this place, the staff are so wonderful and welcoming, the food absolutely divine, wonderful place to chill with family and friends

It's a 4 star lunching place, well prepared meal, hospitality was so great as well, safe parking bay,,,, hey a place to be revisited

Food was great! Their 45th birthday special made it value for money with the R45 Steak. Service very good and the staff needs to be complimented. I was just irritated by the mandatory 10% service charge added to the bill. It should be my option how much I want to tip and I would have given 20%. With them "enforcing" it - I almost decided not to tip any extra.

There was no one outside looking out for patrons arriving and sitting outside. We sat down for long before I eventually went inside to get someone to come and assist us. The lady who came with me then was unfriendly and didn't even greet my sister, but thank heavens, the waiter who served us from then on was great, had a sharp sense of humour and he was quick with orders. The food was good, but the last bite of my omelette...egg shell ...not pleasant. The reason why I don't make my own omelette is because I don't like chewing egg shells. I doubt I'll be back there soon.

Not a great experience, took my girls and opted for kiddies pizza. Was disappointed the pizza was on a frozen base a-la-pick n pay! Burger was decent though, so OK experience. I think a quality kiddies burger should replace cardboard pizza! Maitre-d did offer toys to the girls which were accepted with glee... good save sweetie ;)

Full marks to Mike's Kitchen Parktown for bringing me a whole new plate of food after I found the patty to be just a little too much on the pink side. (And not just another patty on its own!) And the delightful Pinkie who just handled everything in her stride. And they even boxed my original order . Thanks guys.
Angel Patrick
My experience there has always been great, the waitress are always good and the food are very delicious, it was indeed a happy hour that got happier all the time. Thank you Mike's Kitchen Parktown for always making my day

We celebrated our son's first term results. Very good service and the food was delicious. Also not have very long for either the drinks or food.
Mashudu Sinthumule
It was perfect Food was very nice loved everything...The Waitress was on point cumin back this Friday nite for dinner.I wish u can have more place to sit outside though...
Futhi Gumede
The worst place I’ve ever had the misfortune of dining at. They overbooked the venue , drinks take +30 minutes. Food, let’s not even go there.
Patrick Sokhulu
Everything was excellent, I really had a good time with my best team members, Bravo!!!

What a blast from the past<br/>Hadn’t been here for many years Still pretty much the same though <br/>Met a colleague for brunch<br/>Food was fresh and the presentation was good<br/>Coffee was good quality <br/>Service as with most restaurants was haphazard <br/>
A.sengane
My experience was great! The food was mouthwatering, portions were generous and they knocked the presentation out the park. Staff was pleasant.
Rashalia Pather
Great breakfasts and friendly, attentive staff. There is a large outdoor seating area with lovely gardens, and plenty of space inside as well. Parking is gated and secure. The place is family friendly. Be sure to cuddle one of the resident cats if you see them!
Deborah Bukasa
The food took an hour and a half to arrive, and the steak was rancid and smelt like rotten fish. The smell of the steak was so awful that it attracted flies. It is horrific that the chef prepared a rotten steak.
Hena B
Firstly it is wonderful that this establishment offers Banting friendly meals (burgers in particular)... however some research is definitely required regarding Banting as their "Banting" burgers were served with Potato fries and there were no other side dish options... also Chickepeas are Not Banting friendly so I believe the "Banting" Chickpea/falafel burger should not be marketed as Banting friendly... <br/>With that being my only complaint the meals were well prepared and tasty nonetheless.
Kea Rapitsi
Always get the best service here when with my collegues. Not always the case when I’m with lesser people. Nonetheless the food is and will always be great.
Justin Leach
It's got a good look, but unfortunately the service and quality of food is terrible. The waitress did not seem interested in taking my order. I eventually ordered a draught beer which came with floaters which I returned - the manager then brought a "new beer" and explained that the beer lines had just been cleaned. I used to work in a bar and I know that when you clean the lines you pull some beer through to make sure you don't end up with gunk in the first beer you serve - anyway I then noticed that the beer was flat and had no head, so it was obvious they had just cleaned out the floaters and poured the original beer into another glass. lastly I ordered the banting burger which tasted of nothing and the burger patties were evidently factory made and rock hard. I will never eat here again.

We have started a ritual of having supper every Thursday at Mikes Kitchen and without a doubt the food is always on point. highlight is the steaks and desert. <br/>And its worth the money spent.
Valentine Bilankulu
This is a great family restaurant. With a wide variety of comfort food to suit most peoples palates.<br/><br/>It gets busy on some days with morning and afternoon meetings but the service, even then, is not compromised.<br/><br/>Loved the malva pudding (would have appreciated homemade custard instead though)!<br/><br/>Their portions are huge. Well worth every penny. I had a main, dessert, a soft drink and cuppacino with cream... which is what I usually have. All for 250 ZAR, tip included.<br/><br/>The out door seating is great too. On a sunny day.
Jillian Nyakane
I gave it a decent rating because it used to be one of my favorite restaurant whilst I worked in Parktown.<br/>I had the Mozambican peri peri chicken livers (which I heard was a breakfast favourite for people). I think it is nice but mine was so hot, I couldn’t not finish my food even though I was still hungry😞<br/><br/>It was a great family spot though coz hubby and I had to wait till my daughter had satisfied herself on the jumping castle. She loved it! And there were ladies watching kids so that parents can enjoy their food inside. So that’s really great of the establishment😜
Mr. Family Man
Just normal dinner with my family and kids and this place just make the day. Prompt service, nothing special, but good. Great milkshakes that the kids really enjoyed. And their burgers are quite good. Keep this place going as it is a fantastic heritage house.
Bianca
Beautiful and relaxing environment with great service. Food was delish and came timeously. Thank you for a memorable experience..definitely would recommend

Always good for a social event such as meeting up with friends for a conversation. The service here is the best I have received from the Mikes Kitchens I have visited.Great food portions and good drinks menu with lots of variety as well as twists on classics such as cocktails and after dinner drinks like dom pedros which I am a huge fan of - the burgers are always great value and on the odd occasion their seafood is quite delicious. Will definitely continue to visit,
PJ Fourie
What an experience. Extremely quick and efficient service. Massive, perfectly made omelette. Om top of that I am sitting in a beautiful heritage building. This place really made my day!
Justin Jay Rocca
Great area for a business lunch. I must say I like Mikes kitchens new menu and food options. Service wasn’t outstanding but wasn’t dreadful. Draught beer was perfectly poured which is always a plus.
Vanessa Manugu
Very lovely setup. Has a homely feel. Very spacious and the menu has more than enough options to choose from.<br/>I went on a Thursday evening. Ordered the sirloin steak and ribs. Steak was delicious, the ribs on the other hand lacked proper basting. There just wasn't enough flavour.<br/>Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. <br/>I'd like to come back again for a Sunday breakfast just to experience it in the morning time.

Visited this beautiful building on the 3rd for a quick coffee before a meeting next door ........... was not quick . Asked the waiter as i approached the door if i could sit outside for a coffee . ordered used the bathroom and waited  20 min only to be approached and asked if i had not received my coffee .<br/>Waiter went inside presumably to order the coffee he had forgotten and waited again ..... as i was about to get up and leave to go to my meeting .....yay coffee arrived . First sip ..... funny tastes like perfume ..... second sip hummm yup tastes like  perfume....... now despite the profile i am actually a guy and this is my wife's profile for zomato and no i don't wear perfume .<br/>Asked for the bill it came promptly 24 rand gave the waiter 30 rand , did not say keep the change as i wasn't really planning on tipping for a 25 minute wait for a coffee  , however never saw the waiter again , got up and left out of frustration.<br/>wont be going back !!<br/>Also find it funny that there were at lest 10 wait staff on and still waited for a coffee obviously my 24 rand wasn't worth the effort  .<br/>Its a pity as well because the building is beautiful and would have liked to have sat outside and had lunch  at another time but no wont be doing that .

Amazing service, friendly staff. . .the manager actually came to check If we enjoyed our meal which was great. All in all thumbs up to everything.
Tlotlo Letlape
Dinner out with my friends and I must say that the food was amazing. As per normal we all had different plates and from what I tasted from all our plates, the Mike 's kitchen kitchen really knows their stuff. One pointer would be basic etiquette. Waiter was all over the place and left us stranded for a good 20 min. Although the staff needs a bit more hands on training I would return for the great food.
Nerissa
I came here a while back and the food was pretty average. Staff were friendly however not professional. I came here with a crowd of friends. After a few of us had ordered lamb chops that were on the menu we were presented with a bill that did not add up. After querying this the waitress had said she thought we had ordered the special on the lamb chops. Upon enquiring about this special which was absolutely no where to be found on the menu nor on any sign anywhere (we had asked to be shown and the waitress could not show us where this special was mentioned) we paid the bill and left. Bad service due to the fact that we pointed to the menu when ordering the lamb that was on the menu and ended up with a very large bill for something we did not ask for nor could we identify the error when the meals arrived as they were simply lamb chops. Management did not come to speak to us either. Definitely will not revisit this branch.

What a disappointing evening at Mike's Kitchen Parktown. Terrible, terrible good. <br/><br/>This place used to be my default restaurant for any occasion, I have hosted clients and friends to good cheers. Tonight, I brought my Mrs for a quick sit down dinner, had a rib eye steak and she had the famous Tbone. The standard has fallen, the food lacked flavor and the classic zest of Mike's Kitchen dishes. Please fix whatever is not working, this is a great place and needs to live up to that great standard.
Jimmy Ramokgopa
This rating is based on the prawns. The prawns at Mike's Kitchen (spicy) are the best prawns I've ever had. They make better prawns than seafood restaurants.
Tsepiso Mbali
This place does not disappoint. I went after university for dessert. I wanted something lighter than cake, but all they had was a waffle which is usually for kids. They waitress promised she would make a plan and minutes little I received my waffle. I was pretty chuffed. It was cooling because it had ice cream and overall sugary. I usually come here for food because it is close to university and res and the food is always top notch. A little pricey, but top notch

Shout out to my waiter Falami who was great through out the evening, the meals were to die for the atmosphere to my liking....though we didn't see a manager at our table...above it all keep it up guys what a great dinner I had on Saturday evening w my man@ Mike's kitchen parktown

Our go to spot for family outings, dinner dates and weekend lunches. Amazing menu and great ambiance.<br/>Very friendly waiters. Also great for children with their child friendly menu. The indoor setting is always a highlight.<br/>I love it.

I generally like this place. My boyfriend and I come here all the time. In fact, there was a time in 2014 when we came here twice a week for supper. It remains our go to for a traditional grill and it never disappoints. Ribs, steak or burger - I keep it simple. A higher score would have been awarded if the service was outstanding, especially when you come here so often.
Thami Rodgers
Great service from Belinda, great food and ambience too bad all the managers seemed to ignore our table other than that we enjoyed the experience. Definitely coming back
Janice Kelvin Leibowitz
Not quite in the vein of the well-remembered family restaurant of days gone by, where the amazing salad bar dominated! But still not all bad. We've eaten here a couple of times in past months. Service is friendly but could be slightly faster. Fried onion rings and crumbled mushrooms remain firm favourites. Duck spring rolls are also popular. On our last visit, both my companion and someone at a neighbouring table had a problem with their food and it had to be sent back and replaced with a different order. Although it was taken care of, it could have been handled more timeously. There's nothing really appealing that would entice us to come back unfortunately.
Jaco Van Zyl
Had lunch there yesterday. I ordered a Ribeye steak. What I got was definitely not a ribeye steak - looked more like sirloin. They tried to convince me otherwise. I then had the option of chosing something else. I chose the T-bone - a disappointment. I will not recommend this place for their steaks. My family enjoyed their meals - not steak. I was not impressed with the way the situation was handled.
Jacques Wentzel
Usually quite popular among young and old corporates that work in the area. Good for a beer after work. The Restuarant itself has a good feel to it since it's a heritage site and a lot of the old decor has been well mantained. Would recommend their Avo and Biltong Steak and poppers! Simply amazing.
Helen De Chalain
Food was good & service not bad. But do note that a 10% service charge is automatically added to any table of 4 or more. A bit unusual so be careful not to double tip!
Freedom Tlou
The portions are generous and definitely worth the price and the ambiance is perfect, definitely plan on going back soon.Totally lived up to its reputation
Boitumelo Tumi Lebona
Came with the kids and my little one is rowdy. Not once have I been made to feel my kids are a nuisance. Although the waiter wasn't paying much attention to us, everything else about this place is awesome!

When you're feeling a little fancy and want great food without the 5 star prices... Mike's Kitchen Parktown is your spot!<br/><br/>This is my favourite and best Mike's Kitchen in Johannesburg. It has a different vibe to it. Very private, yet romantic, classic and inviting. You can come here for any occasion.<br/><br/>Very good service too.<br/><br/>Mike's Kitchen rarely disappoints. The portions are generous, the food is great and there is always something new to try on their menu. You have to try the pepper poppers and loaded potatoes. <br/><br/>Also try the Malawain Shandy. Very refreshing and interesting drink!<br/><br/>We'll definitely be back! 😁😁😁<br/>
Daryl Chirnside
Great ambience, wonderful place to meet colleagues at lunchtime in summer, and sit in the garden. Great salads, and chips. Truly appalling burger patties, You know those grey, solid, very compact things that have been supplemented with lots of breadcrumbs / flour whatever, to make them cheaper. What a pity. The burgers used to be really good here<br/>BUT have to compliment the manager, who really tried to address the issue, and went out of his way to sort this out, but burger patties were beyond his control, as they had already all been mass assembled in this same unappealing style - Well done for your great attitude to the Manager, a young Afrikaans guy who really tried hard!
Vishal Mistry
Came through to Mike's Kitchen for lunch and ordered the chicken mayo sandwich. Unfortunately it's not the greatest of sandwiches, the chicken was more of chunks and the Mayo had a water like consistency so it oozed every where and there was more filling on my plate than in the sandwich.
Marcio Lopes
This was my first visit to Mike's Kitchen. The menu is large and there is plenty to choose from - but there are noticeable errors. Some vegetarian dishes are marked with a 'v', other vegetarian dishes are unmarked with a 'v' making you question if they're not vegetarian (African Peppadew Poppers). And then of course, you have dishes with meat marked as vegetarian ('Corizo' Salad). (Quite a few more errors than that, but I'm sure nobody cares about this)<br/><br/>The food was great, but unfortunately I'm unlikely to return here due to the (lack of) service. The waiters consistently ignored the table, and took really long for basic things which ruined the experience. (The table is missing some cutlery; wait 10 minutes for cutlery to arrive). In addition, the managers were rude and unfriendly. It's a pity the great food was let down by such bad service.

Mike's Kitchen is a restaurant I remember from my childhood. While the menu has changed since then it overall is quite similar. Big portions and comfort food is something that hasn't changed.<br/><br/>If you a big group you will probably sit in a booth. Ours was situated near the kitchen so we constantly had the waiters bounding up and down. The inside of the restaurant is quite dark. There is also plenty of space to sit outside.<br/><br/>Starters were great all round. The cheese garlic roll is delicious and perfect for sharing, the chicken livers had great flavour and the jalepeno poppers were a huge portion. I do feel for the poppers they should reduce the portion and hence also the price.<br/><br/>For mains I had the calamari, which was just okay. The flavour was very average and the portion of chips was gigantic.<br/><br/>The salmon was good although a little burnt on top. The caper sauce served with it had no taste.<br/><br/>We also tried the chicken and mushroom spud, there wasn't enough sauce and the potato easily collapse which doesn't make for appetizing eating.<br/><br/>The lamb chops was served not well done. It was sent back and more sauce was thrown on but it wasn't cooked more. <br/><br/>Service was okay for a busy day but nothing special. I enjoyed the starters here but the mains were average. While the portions might be huge, the flavours can be bland.
TheHungryKat
Decided to take a break from work and head here for breakfast on Friday morning. The place is beautiful with its outside garden and views within the busy city. It was quite busy for a Friday morning. A friend and I ordered poached eggs with bacon and the chicken livers. Sad to say the eggs were not done the way we liked and the chicken livers were massive and not cut up but the sauce was good. We've been here for lunch before and that has never disappointed.
Bene Katabua
Been here on several occasions, nothing in particular stands out. But by portions, so it's definitely value for money. <br/>On my most recent trip, I had the bacon and avo burger. I also got to taste the lamb chops. Mt favourite burger has to be the blue cheese, and the camembert looks really good too. The lamb chops are very basically seasoned, with some thyme and maybe salt. If you like to really taste the meat, you'd enjoy it.
Kevin Simon
My favorite restaurant for ribs! No one can beat Mikes Ribs! There food is amazing! Except for there cheese burgers, did not like it at all! The service is is always excellent! And the vibe is awesome! I would recommend Mikes Kitchen to everyone!
Andrea Altgayer
Hi everyone, this is not really food-related, but......I heard that this restaurant is haunted:) Is it true? Has anyone had any strange experiences while eating there?I'm really curious!:)Please post pics if possible!
Vera The Wine Snob
It was a delight going to the original mikes kitchen. Their outside eating area takes yiu away from the big city and places you in the most tranquil environment. I obviously had their eggs benedict and was a little disappointed in their hollandaise sauce which tasted like butter and lemon. Otherwise all the ladies enjoyed their meals. Thank you to the staff who were courteous.

Visited Mike's Kitchen for some Friday lunch, and boy was of bustling. The hub of corporate lunches and I'm sure many a deal has been sealed at this establishment. <br/><br/>The restaurant is situated in a historical landmark home of old Johannesburg and offers a wide array of various choices on the menu. We decided to enjoy a burger for lunch, of which I chose the Parma ham burger. Healthy portion, flavoursome and satisfying. The others enjoyed the classic burger and jumping jack which were also both of a similar high quality. <br/><br/>The staff were neither very friendly nor aloof, so I think there may be room for some improvement there. But otherwise, we were seen to promptly and I have no other complaints. <br/><br/>Definitely a spot if you're looking for a lunch meeting.
Santhuri
Yes this is probably one of the nicest settings of all the Mike's Kitchens in the country but the food was a total disappointment. We were a group of ten and had to squash into one of the booths. It was quite uncomfortable to eat our meals. I ordered the pork chops and they were extremely tough with a lot of fat and I battled to cut through it while elbowing my colleagues. I filled my stomach with the chips. Soekie's malva pudding was dry but at least came with custard and ice cream. The service though was friendly and attentive. Would I go here again? Probably but it's not my first restaurant choice in the area.
Mmaphuti Morolong
Absolutely lovely place. The service was great and the food was even better. It went above all of my expectations. Definitely the place to go if you're looking for a chilled night out surrounded by nature.

As a nice family end of the year function, my parents and I decided to grab lunch here. The old building where it's located is honestly stunning. From stained-glass windows to late 1800s/early 1900s finishing. It's definitely something to look at. The staff are very friendly and very accommodating. <br/><br/>As for the food, both my parents ordered fish and chips. The portions were nothing short of generous! They even gave a whole side plate of fries as well as some lovely lemon butter. As for me, I ordered the veggie burger. Despite it initially being undercooked and having to send it back, it was delicious. Once again, I was also given a massive portion of fries as well as some fried onion. Needless to say, there was another for some takeaway too.

Original Mike's Kitchen(available across Joburg tho) started as a small take away zone years back and turned out to be a busiest restaurant throughout the week. Cool ambience with lip smacking menu! Try veg and non stir fry, lamb chops , calamari or prawns with fruit cocktail! Rating:9/10

The ultimate stop for wholesome good meal. You can never go wrong with Mikes. The service and food was beyond phenomenal. Ordered ribs, the platting, taste was extraordinary. From the first bite, you can tell a lot of care went into the preparation of the meal. <br/><br/>Mikes is my all time favorite restaurant.

A nice place to go for team lunch from office. Sunny outdoor seating is really good. The food is nice, and the service is awesome. The waiters will make you feel welcome.

It was a gorgeous blue sky summers day, so finding a restaurant that had chairs outside under the trees & gazebo's, was a great find. It was so relaxing & enjoyable, sitting outside, being surrounded by tall beautiful trees & green lawns. <br/>This Heritage site Mikes Kitchen has lots of secure inside parking with a security boom at the entrance. <br/>The waitron who served us was friendly, helpful & on the ball but then all the servers were courteous & amicable. <br/>We had the pepperdew poppers for starters & they were yummy, especially when coated in sweet chilli sauce. <br/>I had the pork ribs & my wife the fish & chips. Both dishes were delicious. The chips were fresh & golden brown, the salad crispy & very tasty & the onion rings, large, juicy & finger licking good. <br/>We had a very pleasant visit & experience & really enjoyed the whole package deal presented by this Mike's Kitchen.

Really love this Mikes Kitchen, the setting of it is really cool and not like any other. The staff are really friendly and are always checking up on the customers, as well as the manager. The food is good, I had the peri peri chicken and it was tasty. It's a really cool place to have drinks at :)

Visited Mike's Kitchen in Parktown for Saturday Breakfast.  Enjoyed the great relaxing venue, professional service, and healthy portions.  Totally relaxed and enjoyed my meal.
Jon Gunning
Fantastic service by a lot of waiters. And I'm glad my wife's food was good. But my Jumping Jack burger was awful. Cold patty, hardly any jalapeños, cold melted cheese. A disappointing evening out.
Marcus Swanepoel
A great spot for a quick drink after work. The food is also great. Place to sit inside or outside. Great for work lunches aswell. I did have "shares" in the olace when i was doing my MBA. 😀
Diederik Van 't Hof
Had a breakfast there. Beautiful setting in an old Parktown Mansion. Seating is in the gardens, on a light and airy terrace, or in the restaurant itself. The breakfast was well presented, the eggs done as ordered, the meat patty had an interesting and tasty sauce, the boerewors was delicious. The coffee was not great - tasted a bit too "instant" - just did not give the "filter coffee" taste.<br/><br/>Been back - had a business lunch - food really good, and the coffee sorted!
Deon Louw
This is close to the office so it's an easy and quick escape. It generally has a nice vibe and the waitrons are friendly and try and help where possible. <br/><br/>Unfortunately the food isn't anything to write home about and takes forever to prepared.<br/><br/>Overall it's a great spot and I really hope they are able to sort the food out

An institution in Johannnesburg ~ have find memories of the memories we created here in the 80's. <br/>Visited a few weeks back and sometimes memories should just stay where they belong.<br/>Service was slow , my steak was very tough and sinewy - the prices are a little steep for what you get. Given that the area is prolific with excellent restaurants - they may have to up their game to attract more than just the office crowd Monday to Friday.

A relaxed family restaurant that doesn't disappoint! With an extensive menu, there is something for everyone and with such large options even the hungriest family member will leave satisfied

Went o Mike's kitchen parktown, nice and cosy, food was amazing and well cooked and served on time, waitrons available and ready to help, the manager is very friendly and comes to the tables to check if all is well, safe parking as well. It felt like home.

We ordered take away burgers and were severely disappointed! We were told the order would take 10 to 15 minutes maximum and we landed up waiting over 30 minutes. The burgers were the most disappointing - the patty was not fresh and tasted like fake mince or if lucky mince that had been frozen for a long time before being cooked! Chips were horrible and clearly fried with very old oil! For an establishment which I grew up loving this was a disappointing return and will be my last!

This Mike's kitchen is fantastic! The menu offers a great selection to food, our waitress was amazing and the manager was incredibly friendly

Firstly the venue is fantastic. The old converted house in Parktown is a heritage building and looks beautiful. My favourite place to sit is outside in the large garden. The restaurant does a good job of catering to their younger patrons by frequently having a jumping castle on the front lawn within easy sight of the parents sitting in the garden. The food is simple and great. It goes beyond the traditional steakhouse. I always enjoy their ribs. The portion sizes are enormous so try resist the urge to order all of their delicious side courses. I love the paptert side.<br/><br/>The service is friendly and I genuinely enjoy coming to this restaurant. I will be back to sit in your garden with a cold beer (they've got a good selection of craft) and some ribs (especially in the summer months)Nicola Slyper

I remembered going to this Mikes Kitchen as a kid and thought it would be a good idea to try it out. It's got that great family restaurant vibe in a historical building with lots of character, parking was easy and secure. With regards to the meal it's priced at upmarket steakhouse prices without the quality that is expected. The meat and the flavor was great, the veggies and onion rings not so good! Was something different glad I have it a try.

Based in a heritage building, this is a lovely spot to come for lunch. We sat outside in the gardens as it was a beautiful day. The service was friendly and quick.<br/><br/>We had the peppadew poppers to start, these were yum. This was followed by ribs for Stuart and the bangers and mash for myself. We ordered an assortment of sides to go with our meal. We discovered that all these servings are quite large so definitely keep that in mind when you order. It's good food and great value for money. They also had a jumping castle for all the kids. I can see how Mikes Kitchen has remained a firm favourite for many over the years.

I haven't been to Mike's Kitchen in forever. I am very happy to report that it is still wonderful and has even gotten better. The service was great and I had the Jozi fillet with blue cheese and bacon and made changes to every standard menu item and everything was done perfectly and was delish. Definitely won't wait so long to go back!

Who can ever get enough of this place....yummy like I love Mikes legends lol and I never finish my meal and my boyfriend loves their Jawbreaker burger lol that is huge...

What a cool, laid-back place with a HUGE selection of steakhouse classics. Some of it's kind of cheesy, but a fun range nonetheless. I got the Bilton Avo Rump with mashed potatoes and it was great, affordably priced, and very, very filling. Meat could've been better quality and more tender, but overall not too shabby. Would also recommend the vodka milkshakes, based on our group

Lovely lunch - had the chicken and halloumi salad. Could have done with a better salad dressing but otherwise very tasty and friendly staff - did not wait long for food.

Absolutely love Mike's Kitchen!! The food is always so well made, tasty and well presented! The decor and ambience is great. A good place to go for dinner or lunch with friends, family or a partner.

I love Mike's Kitchen in Parktown! Everytime I go there for dinner, I have their delicious burgers. When I first started going, I'd compliment the managers every time on the delicious food that I kept coming back for. However, lately I've noticed that Mike's quality and the amazing burgers that they're known for is sliding. I went last night and ordered my favorite bacon and avo burger. The food arrived and as always, it was presented really well. However, this was the third consecutive time that my burger was overdone and slightly burnt on the underside. It wasn't inedible but it left a bad sentiment and after I wondered whether I should have ordered something else. Although I didn't raise this with the manager at the time, I've always hoped that Miles maintained their quality control in the kitchen, despite being busy. I want to go back and give them another chance because I have had many great food experiences there. If the same situation occurs again, I'm definitely going to alert, the manager and chat to them about it. I love Mikes and have always raved about it to my friends who I've encouraged to try it out. However, if their quality continues to slide, I'll part ways with Mikes's go elsewhere.

Mikes kitchen is a highly versatile restaurant that is a suitable location for meetings, dinner dates, drinks with friends, and relaxed dining. Their menu changes regularly but always maintains the staples (steak, fish, salads). Quite a few vegetarian options too!

Oh memories! We used to go to Mike's Kitchen in Springs for every celebration in my childhood. It takes me back. <br/><br/>This restaurant is also a lovely Johannesburg heritage site so if you want yum classics and want to do something slightly cultural (emphasis on slightly) this is a good 2 for one deal. <br/><br/>I've ordered ribs since I was probably 8 years old so obviously I was going to order ribs again and it was delicious. <br/><br/>Great ambience, service is a bit dubious so go for the scenery, outdoors seating and decent pub like food. I'm sure they'd let you sit on the grass if that's your thing. They have a huge menu, pages on pages on pages.

Not very impressed. Waited an hour for a table even though we made a reservation. They had a limited menu that was only 1 page for that day which they didn't mention when we made the reservation. The peri peri chicken was actually more like plain roast chicken with chilli on the side. But they have pretty good supreme shakes and deserts. Maybe it was just a bad day...

The best Mike's Kitchen! Best is to get a table outside on a nice summers day! Good food - my favorite is the crispy onion rings yum! Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Also great location at a heritage site! Keep up the good work

Awesome place for lunch. Nice ambiance. Service also pretty good. It's mikes kitchen through and through, the ribs are good and burgers are too. Good place for a lunch with mates.

The food was perfect but the service a little slow. The veggies with my rump and with Lynn's chicken stir fry were perfectly done. We shared a Bar One dessert that was lovely.

We went there as a family and had a great afternoon. The food was freshly prepared and enjoyable, same with the environment. I would definitely go back for another lunch.

A classic Joburg restaurant which had kept is classic vibe but isn't coming into the 21st century anytime soon. The food is really good, the vibe is quite nice and the service is okay. Not anything AMAZING but certainly a nice trip down memory lane. Visit if you want to channel your inner child (or have children that need entertaining)

We have had several disappointing and very expensive experiences and won't go back. From steak that tasted like gas, to raw chips, undercooked calamari and wilted salad, it is sad that this restaurant has not maintained the standard it has upheld for years. This is so disappointing considering the setting and location.

My friends and I are university students and we often like to go for milkshakes at Mike's kitchen but this time were treated very poorly. We were seated and then asked if we were having a meal there and when we said that we were just having drinks they requested that we move to the bar, we were a group of 5, hence we refused. Then my friend and I ordered coffee milkshakes which they brought chocolate milkshakes so I sent mine back and they had not brought another friend's milkshake. Even after returning with the correct order they had not brought her milkshake until we asked where it was. The service was cold and an unpleasant experience which had completely defeated the point of going there. On top of it all the people next to us had also only ordered drinks but did not receive the same treatment as they were not students.

I have been here many times whether it be for drinks, a meal or both. The food is really good. The staff are very friendly. The students that go there create a vibe. It's very reasonably priced. The garden is really nice to chill in. The parking is secure. There are also power points to plug in your laptop and work.

I have probably come here once a week every week for drinks and every now and then for lunch - depends on how busy the week is - since January. Food is always enjoyable and staff are better than most. Management however has yet to show appreciation or make contact with us, as regular patrons. I would have thought with 11 months of business they would show some interest in their customers. Just a thought....

This has been my local for 13 years...so of course I love it!<br/><br/>Whenever I meet with old mates...we don't ask where should we go...Mike's it always is!<br/><br/>This building is a national heritage site with ample parking and garden space.<br/><br/>The staff all the way up to the manager are more like friends/family than restaurant staff. They pride themselves on service, friendliness, quality food and a relaxed dining experience. These days I don't have to order my favourite beer on tap...it's waiting for me as I arrive at the bar area!<br/><br/>Mike's is a place everybody should make their future local!

My friend and I were in search of a cute little restaurant where we could crack open a bottle of wine and just hang out.<br/><br/>We were in the Parktown vicinity and decided to check out Mike Kitchen. This cute 1900's style restaurant is nothing short of adorable. And fairly different to the rest of the Mikes Kitchen franchises I've come across. <br/><br/>We ordered on my fave red wines 'The Wolftrap' accompanied by blue cheese and bacon burgers. The bun was slowly leaning towards the dry side of life, I wish I could have been asked how I would have liked my burger as it was overdone. but overall the experience was amazing, we were nestled on a lil corner window table overlooking the garden and candles on the table. It was a picture perfect moment.

Good food, as always. The restaurant was busy with much hubbub which, though not the fault of the restauranteers, caused us to not opt for dessert. A very nice, quick dinner.

A classic place <br/>Often forgotten and overlooked by the northern suburbanites in search of something new. <br/>Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent value plus you are eating in a heritage home with a garden and lots of easy parking. Hard to beat !!!

YESYESYES!????????<br/>Great service, amazing food and friendly staff! There is enough place for the kids to play so you don't really have a problem with wrestles kids at the table... There is ample parking so that is also not a problem! Great in summer, for sitting outside and enjoying the sun and good food! ????

This is one of the best Mike's Kitchen restaurant in town.

I'm usually not a fan of franchises, but it was the closest restaurant as I was waiting for a job interview one day. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful early 1900s house, which is a historical landmark, and it seems pretty well preserved. We sat outside in the garden where we were served by more than one waiter. The prices seemed average, but once we saw the food we realised that it was truly value for your money. The portions were very big, I couldn't even eat half of mine, and the food was well prepared. Although I wouldn't say that it was the best food I 've ever had, it's definitely a restaurant I'd visit again soon.

For a relaxing feel, visit Mikes Kitchen Parktown, with dining iether indoors or outdoors its a great venue to host your meetings, birthday parties and even just a date. The vintage style building creates a homely feel and the interior is plain stunning. Go and experience Calm!

One of my favourite things about Mike's Kitchen is their baked potatoes. Massive and filled with scrumptious filling such as spinach and feta, chicken or mince ... <br/><br/>Their carvery looks big though I have not tried it to comment. <br/><br/>Service can be slow, and not always smiley, but I go back for the potatoes as I am a huge fan. Their ribs are also pretty amazing. <br/><br/>Memories of Mike's Kitchen from when I was a kid in Durban also make me loyal to the brand. Kiddies club and free meals for you and a friend on a birthday ... Great way to have built loyalty.

People have always raved about this Mikes Kitchen, I always had this image of a really cheap, dirty restaurant. When I went to this Mikes, I was pleasantly surprised, the branch is in an old converted house and is quite an upmarket version of Mikes. I have also heard some rumours about the place being haunted upstairs and apparently there is a ghost tour of Johannesburg that takes you to this place and explains the story. This gave me a bit of the creeps and I did feel a bit strange in this place as it does seem a bit eerie! (Have a read here for the tour you can go on http://www.mantality.co.za/experiences/group-and-teams/ghost-bus-and-pub-crawl-for-2-johannesburg-gauteng-.html ) <br/><br/>Anyways, this being said, I was not very keen to stay there long during the evening :) I was there for a birthday and could not be rude so we ate dinner, which was a very large serving. I could not finish the burger I ordered, I left the place feeling full and satisfied. Not my choice of restaurant but this Mikes is probably the best Mikes you are going to get.

When I think Mike's Kitchen, I think of family and comfort food. This is exactly what it is. Mike's takes me back to my childhood sipping those delicious strawberry milkshakes.<br/><br/>There is a good selection of food to keep most happy. I love the Chicken Schnitzel or the chicken breasts for a meal. I have not ever had a bad meal here. Give Mike's a try, you won't be disappointed.

Do not be fooled, this is not an ordinary Mike's Kitchen. This is a very special one. The atmosphere at this Mike's Kitchen is very business like and upper class. They converted an old house into a restaurant which gives it a nostalgic turn of the century kind of vibe. One can sit inside or on the lawn. I prefer inside in the winter, outside in summer. I always have a burger and the burgers are great. They also offer to do it man-size, that is with a bigger patty. The service is equally good and you won't be disappointed. This is not fine dining, it is just good comfort food in a relax environment!
