The service was great, the gin cocktails were fabulous, the burger was perfect but the chicken was extremely dry, couldn't finish it. But really loved the atmosphere
An amazing restaurant with very cool decor. The ambience is amazing, it’s a very welcoming place with friendly staff. The gin menu is great! And so is the food! I had the spinach and feta stuffed chicken breasts on a bed of chili creme served with a side portion of chips with a crunchy exterior and a soft center which was fried a golden brown. My girlfriend had half a spatchcock chicken with fries.
Everytime I come here I never leave disappointed.
Seating arrangement is very accommodating for all type of settings. Nice ambiance.
The food is presented well, very tasty and the portions are served just right.
The cocktail selection is small but have that have a drink for every palate.
I give the wine list 10/10.
Great place for after work drinks / dinner for 2 or however many, you get the picture.

I am not much of a G&T girl but I had lovely one at this lovely restaurant. The service was great, our waitress really made sure that our wants and needs were catered for including my dietary requirements (gluten & lactose intolerant)

I’m rating it based on the Bottomless Champagne that I had with my friends.
I’m not sure what time is starts but I know its a weekday thing that ends at 9pm.
I had a good time and the champagne they use is tasty, I think they do need to be a bit more observant when it comes to the empty champagne glass. We had to ask them to refill it twice.
The staff is friendly and so is manager.
I’’ll be returning soon for food and more champagne.
What a treat! Sunday afternoon family lunch. Prawns and calamari shared by the kids were superb, the steak and chicken espetada were outstanding and my baby chicken was not only larger than baby, but tastier than my expectations. Craft beer and gins, attentive service and a modern, hippy-chic decor left nothing to be desired. Thanks guys, we'll be back.

This weekend I discovered a restaurant gem, 011 Dainfern by The Baron.

The décor is contemporary but still classic. There are tv screens everywhere showcasing the sport. The bar is certainly the focal point of the restaurant with a giant train station clock hanging in the center, complete with brass pipes, alluding to the front of a railway train – which gives the entire restaurant a 1930’s train station vibe. Quite edgy and contemporary.
They have been open since September 2016 and are growing in leaps and bounds. In fact, they are proud of the fact that they are constantly evolving and changing as they go. Their initial wine list had only 20 wines on it – now it is exponentially bigger as they grow.
More famously known for it’s gin bar with an assortment of craft gins. They serve up a wide variety of local beers on tap including many craft and varieties that I love.
The food menu still carries a wide variety of seafoods and meaty grills as well as the casual lunch time sandwiches.
Spoilt for choice I started with the calamari, then for mains I picked the house specialty of bone marrow fillet and ended things off with my all time fave crème brûlée. They were all delicious and good portion sizes.

I washed that all down with a “first lady cocktail” which was delicious (they actually have a promotion running where if you book a table on the 13th May for mothers day they will actually spoil your mom with a complimentary first lady cocktail).

We decided to try this restaurant after a lot of great feedback from friends. We all had the 011 burger and it was INCREDIBLE! The meat patty was proper and the onion rings were delicious! The service was great and the interior of this restaurant was super chic and wonderful. Will definitely be back!
An incredible food selection with excellent drinks. I went on a quiet lunch day but the vibe there armed amazing. The decoration is one of a kind, and the chairs are the most comfortable I've ever had a restaurant. The Sims are the highlight though. Even sometime who hates good will love these. And there's something in the price range for everyone. This place is a just visit for everyone
Amazing food, chicken burger was absolutely delicious with crispy chips and onion rings, better half had the lamb burger that he won’t stop talking about for a long time 😆, generous portion sizes, gotta head their with an appetite, very helpful staff and nice atmosphere... definitely will be back for more
Good vibes. I've been there with friends for a drink and to watch soccer. I think they need bigger screens if they want to be called a sports bar. Menu needs to be thickened. Excellent service. Food is good too. It's close to my place so I go there quite often.
FAN-TA-STIC! Friendly waitresses, well-priced wine and good music. But the winner is the gin bar. Something to enjoy for all gin lovers. And the fireplace makes it a great winter spot too
I’ve dined here a few times. I love gin cocktails and 011 has plenty. The gin collection is wide as well as the accompanying tonics.
There is a nice atmosphere and I enjoy the bands that sometimes play over the weekend. The service varies, sometimes good and sometimes bad but never completely terrible.
The most recent time I was there, I had the chicken livers, which were flavourful and spicy. The roll that was served with the livers was hard and not as soft as one would have liked, however, my overall experience was enjoyable and I will definitely be returning sometime soon.

The venue is big enough so one wasn't feel cramped up in a venue, it's got nice open spaces and lots of specials too.
If you're a sports lover, it has a pub vibe, which you would love.
An amazing place with amazing gin and stunning food... always go back for more. The manager and staff are very pleasant and their Sunday Jazz events are the best.

011 is certainly a favourite of mine - great cocktails (try the elderflower g&t), delicious steaks and pretty awesome service! The restaurant/ bar has a fun vibe and makes for a lovely night out with friends or even with a partner. They have great entertainment on a weekend with a live band on Sundays - perfect way to end off a good week.
If you're looking for a cosy night out with amazing food, this is the place for you! I've got to admit I was never a soup person, but this place had definitely changed my perspective completely. A quick heads up for all you Gin fans.. I certainly have had one of the best gin cocktails at this gem.
Awesome gin experience, pricy evening but worth a visit if you are interested in different gins and craft tonic. Would preferably only come here for drinks although I have eaten here once and food was very tasty.

Awesome bar and fantastic food! We have had many meals here and my fav has to be their calamari. The steaks are amazing and it goes without saying we have always had great service. You won't be disappointed. It does get busy so booking over the weekend is a good idea.

WOW! Had a birthday dinner last night and it was fantastic! Everyone order meat and it was made to perfection, we were a very happy table. Loved that the onion rings are not think and floury, their thin and done just right. The choice of music is not only suitable to the rustic look but it sure had everyone at the table bobbling their heads and tapping their feet. More than once our table would bust with excitement as we'd hear a golden oldie that brought back good memories.
I was surprised at how warm it is inside, didn't feel like a winter night to anyone.

This place has the potential of being an excellent restaurant, however they are falling short. The decor and ambience is awesome, the waiters are knowledgeable which is rare these days, the management are there to rectify any complaints and to make you happy. However the food seems to have dropped in size and quality. Not what you would expect from an upmarket Bar/diner. I have had their burgers on few occasions and they were good. The last time I was sorely disappointed for the price I paid. My girlfriend paid R110 for a starter portion of calamari which consisted of 6 tiny pieces of calamari.Doesn't seem right. Come on guys, we like your place and want it to succeed but we won't come back if we are being ripped off. Alisha Corbett
Been twice and have really enjoyed it! Love the Sunday arvie vibe with the live music on the square, which allows for kids to run around a bit. Think it's more for adults over dinner time so will give it a try when (and if) I ever get to go out without the little ones for some grown up time out. Food is lovely and service was excellent. Will definitely be back and add a bit more to the review ....
011 is such a lovely establishment, it's ideal for checking out the game or chilling with friends or family. Was invited for a Gin event when I was there, the service was a bit slow, the food and the vibe of the place is pretty cool.

This review is a few months after our visit! Yes, it happens when you have 1000s of photos on your phone and a short attention span! But alas, rather late than never! We visited 011 Dainfern on St Paddy's day, after I was lucky enough to win a voucher as part of their St Patrick's promotion. Been wanting to visit 011 Dainfern for a while now, because 1) I heard they've got a great collection of gin and 2) we're still looking for proper English pub style experience! As you can imagine, it was quite busy, but the vibe and energy was great - without being too noisy/overwhelming. We started off with few Guinness beers of course, and also tried a few green cocktails. The service was good and the beer cold! We ordered burgers and it was really good! This is a great casual spot to catch up with some friends, have a few drinks, listen to live music (offered regularly on weekends) and have a delicious pub lunch. They've got a good wine list, and true to their reputation, a fabulous variety of gins and gin cocktails. Oh, and I really liked the decor! Just check out the bar - stunning, huh?? 26.04.2017 Friends and i decided to book here for dinner and a catchup. Quite impressed with the decor, setup and vibe. Absolutely loved their fire places inside. It was quite busy but not overcrowded.
The menu is slightly limited, but sufficient if you not a very fussy eater. For starters we had the Beef and Chicken Sliders and the grilled Calamari with Peri sauce. The portions are quite reasonable, hence for mains we were not as hungry, so we shared the Sirloin and Wasabi Mayo open sandwhich, and they were kind enough to bring it on 2 plates ( bonus for them) my steak was a little under done, but edible and we ordered the Calamari again as it was delicious.
They have a good selection of Gin options, if you a Gin lover, I had the Joubert Park Swizzle which consists of Bulldog Gin, Mint, Lime, Sugar, Aromatic Bitters served in a tall glass with crushed ice. Quite refreshing.
Definitely a spot i would go to again, as its got an older crowd and a nice vibe.
I really love the vibe and concept of 011 Dainfern. The eclectic mix of industrial warehouse come elegant chic make it an ideal venue for a number of occasions. Casual enough for drinks with friends and elegant enough for a romantic dinner.
I had the Hake Goujons with veggies, which was delicious, and my sister enjoyed the Napoletana Pasta. Both complimented by the lovely 'Life From Stone' sauvignon blanc.
We did, however, feel a little neglected by our waiter who only visited our table to deliver the wine or food. We had to top our own glasses up and wave down the attention of other staff to bring more lemon for my fish.
Definitely worth a visit if you haven't yet been.

The food and the vibe is super awesome. The staff could be quick with the service though as they took a very loooong time to get the drinks done although there were a handful of people in the restaurant. The owner is super friendly and the food!! Oh the food is AMAZING!!!
Always a great experience! 011 have the best Gin and Tonic blends in town. Would recommend this for a leisurely experience with friends. A restaurant with a great atmosphere and good service.
Can't fault this restaurant. Best food we've eaten for ages, excellent service from our waiter (Mr Min) and amazing vibe. Food 10/10! Loved the courgette and charred corn salad. Pepper and jalapeno sauces together with the steak seriously divine. All done to perfection! Quite nosy so don't sit inside if you want a quiet dinner. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back!

011 Dainfern By the Baron is a chique, hip and contemporary bar situated in the Dainfern Square in Johannesburg. Stepping through their doors, it’s a buzz. The mix of luxury decor paired with unlikely elements like rusted corrugated iron and copper is a unique mix.
The team at 011 are all professional, from the barmen to waiting staff and service is prompt and efficient. Since we attended a tasting, Musgrave Gin was at the order of things. Beautifully garnished with strawberries, herbs and basil, this was a taste sensation par excellence. We enjoyed sliders, quesadillas and fries and were decadently prepared.
011 can be classified as a Gin & Beer lounge, but offer a lot more with regards to liquor and even more so with their menu. I will recommend 011 and be sure to check out and enjoy this trendy hotspot.
Stopped over on a hot Saturday afternoon...gin and tonic was the order of the day...Botanist Gin and Tanqueray #10. Being a brie lover I ordered the gourmet burger, but I was a bit skeptical cos I am a burger snob and I often struggle to find a well prepared burger. 011 did not disappoint, the burger came a perfect medium, succulent and full of flavour. Give that chef a Bell's. I had a taste of my partner's T-bone...another pleasant surprise; juicy, tender and very tasty...words that I've never used to describe a T-bone steak. For starters we shared the trio of carpaccio; beef, kudu and smoked springbok. The beef was disappointing and lacked flavour, the springbok and kudu were delicious. Looking forward to trying more of their menu.
The best thing about thus restaurant is the Gin menu! I like love gin....well I love most drinks, except whiskey, but gin is one of my favorites 😊. The gin menu was a great touch and the one I had was delicious. The service was good, nothing that sets them apart but nothing to complain either. We had the pan fried steak, sirloin, hake and calamari. The food was good again nothing that stands but we enjoyed our meals.
Great food at an affordable price, with a wide selection of gin. Really warm and inviting atmosphere with cosy yet spacious seating. I was thoroughly impressed by the linguini pasta dish with prawns, garlic and chilli, which I paired with a crisp Simonsig 2015 Chardonnay. The dish was fresh and flavourful with a generous amount of prawns. I would certainly return to this place!

011 is a new concept for Baron, one of the most successful name's in 'pubbing' in JHB. Baron has been aiming at a higher LSM for a while now, and this is another move in that direction. Craft gin bar, set in the very up market Dainfern square.
The decor is great! It's sophisticated gentlemens club mixed with steam punk. Soothing blues with dark wood and a lot of exposed face brick. I also love the triple volume ceiling. It feels like an old train station bar.
It's clearly aimed at a trendy drinking crowd rather than an eat out crowd, so we will be sure to come back on a weekend night and check out the vibe. I don't think it is going to be a good choice for a quiet romantic dinner.
The craft gin selection is great, and they offer a range of craft tonics at about 3x the price of Schweppes. The rest of the menu seems like a slightly enhanced version of the Baron menus, I haven't eaten there in a while but all the old favorites are available.
We shared a Mediterranean starter and it was really delicious and well presented. Great simple flavor combinations well done.
I had the special prime rib for my main, and it was absolutely exceptional! One of the best steaks I have had in a long time! Huge thick generous well aged cut, perfectly medium rare, charred outside and melt in the mouth inside. It was so good I was tempted to pick it up and gnaw on the bone! Only small complaint would be slightly cold onion rings.
Fern had the Neapolitan pasta and it was well presented and tasty, I felt it could use a tiny bit more seasoning but otherwise great.
We had a great meal, and loved the ambiance, but without doubt the test of this place will be whether the standard of the food (and service) is maintained when the bar is buzzing. We will be back to test.

Absolutely awesome! The food selection is great , we had the gourmet burger which was delicious!! The gin selection is vast and perfect for gin lovers. They do make other cocktails which aren't on the menu and are both tasty and reasonably priced. Our waiter, Lucky, was great. All in all an amazing place and we will definitely be back.
Their salads are out of this world, the first time around I tried their Chicken Caesar Salad. They are incredibly generous with regards to portion size and the amount of fillings that go into the salads themselves. Did someone say Baecon...
The second time around, I tried their Fillet Salad with the Pomegranate Dressing (which hit the ball out the park) and to finish off I had their chocolate pudding with ganache. There are no words to precisely describe how velvety and rich this dessert was.
I also love how they're on uber eats which makes weekend nights in a 1000 times easier

We did go during the week and I can imagine that this place can get quite busy and the service was already quite slow.
Food is really good and the portion size is big. I had the prawn pasta and my husband had the 650 g of ribs. We used uber eats and got our food delivered to our door. The meals were perfectly packaged.
Wow. Mh first visit to the place was with a few friends a couple of weeks ago. We ordered some snack platters for the table and they were absolutely delicious.
Then today I registered on UberEats and saw they did take aways, so we order the same skewer platter for two remembering how good it was. Again I was super impressed. Take aways are normally nothing like the quality you get at the restaurant but this wasn't the case. Not a lot of food but it was super super tasty. I'll be back to frequent the venue and for takeaways.

Delicious cocktails and a great atmosphere the vibe was great and ended up staying quite a few hours longer than expected. Our waiter was funny and very attentive. Not the cheapest place around but overall a stunning restaurant.
Firstly this spot is getting a point for just being in a extremely close proximity to home! I love the decor and the space has openess that caters for the outdoors and indoors with a bar that creates a nice back drop. The idea was to stop over just for drinks before the night got started but the menu was so tempting that we had to try something. Opted for the skewer platter for 2 and as far as tapa style goes this was pretty good. They do speciality gin cocktails but make all cocktails as well. This place will be great for the after work drinks spot on route home!

I have visited 011 on a number of occasions and find the food, service, drinks menu etc all to be excellent. I highly recommend the platters as the range and quality of food is excellent. I will visit a lot more. 011 has quickly established themselves as the best restaurant/pub in the area and I expect it will remain so for a long time to come.

011 Dainfern (by The Baron) might sound like a mouthful because it is.. but this upmarket gin bar really does its cocktails tastefully and I loved my girls night out here recently. Their take on the Musgrave Gin garnished with strawberry and Rosemary was by far my favourite gin of the day!
Onto the food, I selected their Guinness Pot pie, which is one of the biggest pies that I have ever attempted to eat in just one sitting! Delicious.
*Recommendation: If you are a G&T drinker in the Dainfern area, this is a great spot to stop in at and get your gin on!

Great and warm place, welcoming vibes and delicious food.
I was there on a Friday evening for a birthday dinner and from the onset the place was aesthetically pleasing.
The food was absolutely delicious. I went for the bacon wrapped chicken breast and it was seasoned perfectly. My only issue was with the accompanying sauce that was a little too sweet for my liking.
I also had a taste of the calamari and it was decadent.
For dessert I had malva pudding and it was absolutely divine, melts in your mouth.
Wow, what a establishment!! Hats off to the best waiter service, food, and best ever GIN combinations fit for a King and Queen - Thank you Michael (Manager) and Anolia (Waitress) for the best experience ever!!! Will be back real soon. THANK YOU...
