Riverside cafe is a fairly regular takeaway spot for us! The food is delicious (we love their pizzas) and have never been disappointed. The main reason we don’t eat at the restaurant often is because it gets fairly chaotic on a busy night. Even collecting our takeaways is a bit of a mission - always feel like we are in the way of all the waiters. But definitely a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Another excellent meal and experience at Riverside Caffe & Bistro. My wife and I popped in for a nibble and some cocktails. The place was fully packed, but we were greeted immediately and given the last table. Our waitress attended to us quickly and the cocktails arrived much sooner than expected and were nice and potent. We shared Calamari heads and chips, and then a piece of the divine Russian cake. With excellent service and food a well deserved 5 stars.
A very nice bistro that I have been going to since the very beginning. The haloumi pasta with napoletana sauce is what I order every time. Their Russian cake is one of my all time favorite desserts.
Awesome yummy food with friendly service. A great Milano breakfast: spinach, asparagus, hollandaise source, eggs, Parmesan shavings. My 12 year old’s bar one croissant got rave reviews.
Went for lunch on a busy sunny Saturday when the place was buzzing. It made for a great 'pavement' cafe experience. I enjoyed the laid back vibe - it was great for a casual catch up with friends. The decor is tasteful and trendy - clean and crisp (!).
The wine list was adequate and the food menu contained what I expected from this sort of cafe. Quality was great and I enjoyed my prego (arguably one of Jhb's better). Importantly the coffee was good too!

I've had breakfasts here a few times, always delicious, plenty to choose from and I've always had good service. Food servings are huge! Never left unhappy.
Maybe one of the better chicken prego's I have ever had, a little bit pricey, but I suppose the size is definitely value for money, the sauce on the prego is great, will def be back for another.
Consistently good. Always busy and bustling. Nice and warm inside in winter and cool outside in summer. Steak salad with feta is great for a lunch and the chicken milanese with vegetable is a health treat. Cakes are very very good!
Look i can see that this place have massive potential but they lack execution. First of all the table that we booked werent set up so we had to wait, bad move on their side. When everything was sorted it went well, drinks were served in minutes of ordering which was impressive, and they gave our table just the right amount of attention. Around the table we ordered a wide assortment, from chicken livers, burgers and pasta, but i have to rate on my dish, i had the pasta with veal, red wine and cream sauce, to be honest i was not impressed. The sauce was pure cream, bland and no trace of red wine, the veal was surprisingly tuff and scarce. I notices the burger next to me, it was ordered medium to rare and it was cooked perfectly. So hit and miss for riverside, will give it another go.
I can't believe that I haven't been here. It's a classic restaurant and it's yummy. Simple and bistro type menu, portions are generously sized and the food is just delicious. Try their famous need prego paired with a glass of chardonnay, on a Saturday lunch sitting outside to soak up the winter sun. The bacon, brie and cranberry burger is stunning. French fries were a little oily but overall great experience.
Staple part of Riverside shopping centre, great for breakfast - I had the traditional breakfast - perfectly poached eggs and crispy bacon done as per my request. Our party also ordered the Athens which went down a treat. Sitting inside was a bit loud and bustling for my taste but didn't spoil the experience.
It's in a modern complex and easily accessible. Slightly cramped inside but not totally uncomfortable. Service was above average. Our drinks came quickly and we went straight onto mains. My beef prego and chips was probably the best I've had in Jozi. I'm told the lamb chops were quite tasty too. The seafood pasta was nothing to write home about I'm told - no basil, chilli or garlic and the seafood tasted like it had been in the freezer for a long time, and, this was a bit weird, with crumbed fish strips. A big disappointment, I'm afraid. The desserts, apple crumble and chocolate fondant, both with ice cream, were absolutely delicious. Definitely a nice spot, but we may skip the pasta next time. At every visit, the food had been divine. Their salads are fresh and yummy. Others with me have had chicken livers and said it's one of the best they've ever had. Their juices are fresh and coffee is great. Waiters are attentive, accurate and friendly - obviously experienced. I like sitting outside - it has a bit of a European feel. Definitely worth visiting (a few times)
Often pop in here for a meal. Service always excellent regardless of how busy they are. Hands on management and amazing food whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. My personal favourite here is their chicken, avo and almond salad. Fillets are fabulous and their chicken milanese amazing. Good, hearty, home-style cooking.
Really nice spot with a range of good food. I can recommend their Prego roll, calamari and the calamari and bacon pizza. These dishes all have their creamy Peri Peri. It's not very hot but full of flavour.

Great restaurant with great service from the waiters who have been there a while. Food is always good. Tends to be on the more expensive side though and you struggle to get a table on a Friday night (they don't do bookings). It would be nice to see a couple of new things on the menu, they do now have a 'specials board' but again, for a neighborhood type bistro I find them rather overpriced compared to other similar restaurants in the area.
Just great! excellent choice for a quality breaky or casual dinner. The menu is old school and nothing overly fancy or compllicated. They are sure to have a dish to perfectly suit your needs.

The Riverside Café is a nice place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. A feeling of home is felt as soon as you walk in due to the waiters being welcoming and the comfy furniture.
The waiters are great as they check on you to make sure everything is okay. The service is also great because the food does not take long to come - but considering I went when it was not that busy, you would probably wait a little longer.
For the main course I had the Chicken Avocado & Roasted Almonds with additional feta cheese. The salad had basic components which all tasted really good together summed up with their homemade dressing that gave the salad a complete change. It was not rich or basic but just the type of salad you crave when you're too lazy to make your own.
For desert I had a layered cake that was on display. It was topped with this delicious chocolate sauce that helped the cake melt in your mouth. I'm not a huge fan of cake but this one has vanilla & chocolate elements & an unique texture of crunchy on top and soft below. I do suggest you order this with lemon tea as the cake alone can become rich without anything to soothe your taste buds for a moment. But definitely my favorite cake of all time!
There's very minor things they could've done better like making sure the dishes look perfect in appearance but the amazing taste made up for it.
I suggest anyone who is struggling to find a casual family friendly restaurant - with simple yet delicious food, I'd suggest The Riverside Caffe Bistro!
Favourite meeting place. I have tried most of the dishes and would recommend them all. Family run with hosts chatting to patrons, there is always someone ready to help, not to mention well trained staff who remember you by name and favourite dish!!
We eat here very often and have many different dishes - apart from one or two, everything else on their menu is brilliant - the salads and pastas are excellent and the hamburgers the best in town !
Riverside Caffe & Bistro was a convenience stop for me - I had time to kill and they had free wifi, so it was simple. I didn't expect much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Their service must be highlighted, perhaps the quickest from order to drink for both a rock shandy and a (decent) flat white. I also nibbled their Calamari starter which was tasty and huge for the price. I'll be back to try their breakfasts next time I'm in JHB.
Great service here, love the Frittata options, very tasty, breakfast menu ends at 12 but the manager was kind enough to allow my friend and i to have our breakfast menu at 1... thanks guys for the lovely service...
The pasta Butternut Agnalotti and sweet potato gnocchi are delicious. The dessert Russian Cake is yummy and covered in bar one sauce. The food is very good here.
Relaxed environment with good food choices. Given that we are vegetarians, we found options little limited. Overall a good brunch place. Took little one who had fun too. Staff is friendly
My boyfriend and I were referred to Riverside Cafe on Saturday night by another restaurant owner, which in my book says a lot for the quality of dining at RC as well as the integrity of the other owner. Needless to say he was spot on! We had a delicious and extremely satisfying meal. My bf had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection, and I had the panzerotti macchiato which was creamy and tomato-y and just all round heavenly. We also started with popcorn halloumi which was enough to fill us both and also cooked beautifully. We were too full for desserts and coffees but I would love to return to sample the delicious treats on display on the centre table. If you're in Bryanston and want to spoil yourself pop in and make sure you ask for Baggio. He is the best waiter in the entire northern suburbs, full of character and charm but professional through and through.

Great quality at a fair price. Had the eggs augratin with came with a larger than expected helping of fries and good coffee. Will look at it as an alternative to the usual Morningside breakfast spots.
Great spot for breakfast, was there with a large group and the service was great despite the sizeof the group. I had the smoked salmon and avo on toast and it was delicious and a decent sized portion. I will definitely return for breakfast.
We stopped by this morning for some coffee and breakfast. Their cappuccinos were good and the fresh orange juice was amazing. For breakfast I had the Milano breakfast, which was fantastic! Everything was fresh and all the other breakfast options around the table were also thoroughly enjoyed. Great service as well.
Grabbed lunch at Riverside Caffe on a whim and we were treated to some really tasty food. My boyfriend and I tried the BBC and Mexican burgers which were really juicy and delicious and incredibly filling. I glad to have found this little gem of a spot and I will definitely be back.

Lovely spot in Bryanston with a menu that suits most tastebuds and preferences. The calamari is a win as well as the pizzas and prego - if you like it hot. Always busy so book in advance. Food is homestyle and hearty.
The perfectly place to meet friends for lunch or to go have a nice easy dinner. Good wine list and very good food. Surprisingly one of the best pastas I have ever had. The service is good and a friendly welcome on arrival can always be guaranteed.
This is as good as it gets, for an outstanding breakfast. Love the setting of this restaurant it's one that you are not looking on to the car park there is a little garden you look on too. The food is fantastic you must have the frittata my favourite one is Danish feta my husband likes the chorizo sausage. There cappuccino are great wish they were double the size.

Had another great lunch in between seeing clients and always is good. I had the fillet baguette which is great. They also make the best bar-one sauce around which is evil to the core and completely authentic.

A popular local suburban venue , seems to have recovered from the renovations and have nice outside area , I like the breakfast menu and lunch good although I am personally not a fan of huge servings , seems to be well supported most times , service good and professional , will PPP in again when I am in the area 😀
Great little restaurant in Bryanston - perfect for a mid week dinner/lunch or a nice place to meet friends. Riverside Caffe has a large selection of meals and service is always friendly and fast. Pregos are great but pack a punch! Enjoy!!
Relaxed bistro with seriously huge portions. I had the salmon and avo on rye for breakfast and was surprised at the size of my meal - however for R98 it makes sense. I've also had halloumi popcorn starter which was also very big, and so tasty. They offer a range of interesting, filling salads as well as a bunch of treats to choose from. They atmosphere isn't really unique or quaint, but relaxed and suitable for a chilled breakfast or lunch spot.
Got to love a restaurant that serves calamari & fries for breakfast along with a salmon omelette.
Service was as quick as the freshness of my strawberry/orange juice blend. If they don't remember your name, you're still treated like they know you.

Very nice for casual dining. Their portions are generous and hearty. I think they have hiked their prices too much though post centre renovation. Good staff and service though.
What a fantastic restaurant. A very friendly warm welcoming atmosphere with a great vibe, the menu was very extensive and hard to choose from such a variety of great dishes. I ended up having a delicious Linguine Con Calamari, a very generous portion of saucy calamari linguine, filled with rich flavour and taste and was a perfect meal on a chilli evening. The pizzas were fantastic too, and the service was great.
The new riverside shopping centre has had a face lift and is fresh and welcoming. The riverside bistro has simple yet stylish decor perfectly suited to the bistro feel. I ordered the mushroom pasta which had a generous portion of mushrooms and the Chilli, garlic and Parmesan on the side was fresh and complemented the meal. A great place for good food and a relaxed vibe. The bistro also has an good selection of well priced wines.
Nice vibe on a Friday night, with cosy gasoline fire heater. Though being a vegetarian choices on menu is limited, one can still enjoy the Italian cuisine with hint of style. Like the pocket butternut pasta one will never expect. I do recommend the tiramisu dessert that is made to perfection.
I love when a restaurant is humming, always a good sign. The staff were friendly and looked after us, the food was creative and tasted awesome. We had the halloumi pop corn starter, chicken prego roll and sweet potatoe gnocchi with butter sage sauce. All of it delicious, can't wait to go back! :)
Our favourite local spot for chilled midweek dinners as well as lunches on the weekend. Service is consistently good. They have a quite an extensive menu and I haven't had a bad meal yet! Would recommend the squid heads, Chicken Lupini, Chicken Prego and the sweet potato gnocchi (see pic) is something special.
I had a lovely breakfast this morning with my partner. I had a salmon, avo & cottage cheese fritata. It was well presented. Fresh. Service was fast. My only gripe was that the acoustics are bad which makes the music inaudible and people's voices very loud.
Situated next to Jacksons Food Market, this is perfect for a lazy brunch. They make the best frittatas ever, and the coffee is alway good. The place has outdoor seating, so you can soak up some delicious winter sunshine.
I've always had the best meals at Riverside Cafe, whether it be meat and veg or pizza and pasta. The staff are friendly and the service is great making the atmosphere even better. Be sure to sit outside on a Summer's day.
I started going to Riverside when it was in Village Walk. The food and service have been consistently good. Although there are a number of tantalising options on the menu, I recommend the chicken, avo and almond salad, followed by the Russian Kiss - it's the most deliciously decadent...

We were in the mood to try somewhere new for dinner and came across this bistro.
The acoustics of the restaurant are shocking but that because I'm a stickler for such details (some soft furnishings should sort that out).
We ordered the spaghetti con pomodoro and the lamb shank el Greco. The servings are very generous and packed full of flavor although the lamb shank was a tad on the salty side.
The service was ok.
Loved the Milano breakfast, and what's more my poached eggs came exactly as I ordered... You'll be surprised how often restaurants get this wrong! Great coffee, quick, efficient service with a smile.... Definitely going back!
Perhaps unfair to rate without eating there but meet some business colleagues for drinks. Very convivial atmosphere.

A regular family hang-out for kids, friends and parents. We have enjoyed family meals here for years. Consistent cuisine and excellent service. A pity we have had to wait so long for a table, recently.
We had a lovely lunch on a Saturday. Our waiter was helpful and friendly. The haloumi ravioli was divine! Great fish too. Quite a few healthier options too. Fair prices for the quality and area. We will be back!

Breakfast after parkrun has never been this good. Lately we've taken a liking to poached eggs and here they make them good! The outside setting is very Mediterranean and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Although it was a busy Saturday morning we didn't have to wait for a table. A friendly and competent waiter served our table, but we did have to wait a while for the bill to come.
One of my local favourites, a tad expensive, but good food! Service is a bit inconsistent, and wine variety minimal. But with a recent upgrade in the shopping centre, the restaurant seems to have gone through a bit of a revamp with a fresh look and feel and level of service! A trendy, community hot spot for a cafe/bistro type meal and lovely way to spend an afternoon or dinner with friends. A HUGE PLUS FOR ME, the restaurant is dog friendly!
I have been wanting to try out Riverside for a while now, and finally went for lunch. When I looked at the menu I initially thought it was quite expensive but the portions that arrived were very decently sized. We tried 2 different salads and they both hit the spot. Our friend had a baguette which also looked delicious. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere for lunch and I will definitely go back to try other dishes on the menu.
One of our favorites for family dinner. I have never had a bad meal. My favorites are the calamari and the panzerotti pastas. Although the there isn't a specific kiddies menu, my daughter loves the pastas, and the portions are big enough that she usually has a take away for dinner the next night.
There is something for everyone, regardless of what you may feel like eating.
The service can be a little slow when the restaurant is full, but we have never had enough reason to complain.

If you’re unsure on what you feel like – this is a place for everyone. You can order pizza, pasta, baguettes, salads and a great prego. The prego is spicy and saucy served on a Portuguese flour dusted roll. It comes flowing with sauce which is perfect to dip the side portion of shoe lace fries. Its simply, Yum! Also their pasta always does me well when I’m in the mood for comfort food.
I went to Riverside for a breakfast and Riverside cafe and bistro is ideal for a nice breakfast and a very nice vibe to the restaurant. Nice variety of breakfasts availible and the frittata i had was great. They have some nice hot drinks and fresh fruit juices. It has a nice italian vibe and a touch of italian to the food. Very nice experience and i had a very nice meal. Would recommend it for a nice breakfast but they also have pizzas, pasta and a very nice salad menu. I would defintely return again.
Wow, what a gem! I had the most delicious grilled calamari here! Everything tasted so great, and everyone around the table agreed! We shared a chocolate fondant for dessert, and even though so tasty, wasn't the beat fondant I have had. Beautiful restaurant and can't wait to go back!
Awesome little spot for a quick pass by for coffee or a longer lunch affair. The iced coffee is great for a hot day. The staff are very friendly and the lunch menu has some great options! Love sitting here and enjoy good company.
Great food. Very generous portions of food. Slight mishap with the sangria... Focaccia light and tasty. Salad great but dressing should be on the side. Chicken medallions awesome! Waiters good but could be a little friendlier. Casual ambience. Will definitely be back.
