The absolute best chops I have ever had at a restaurant... add to that a stunning atmosphere and extremely friendly and competent staff headed by James who is the epitome of what a manager should be and you have yourself a 5 star experience. The owner is very friendly and hands on. The subtle fusion of Greek and traditional south african braai make it an experience worth while.

The octupus starter was tasty but too small a portion for the price. The corn wrap is too over powering. Takes the the other flavours away.

Service is good and the food is great. We shared chicken and ribs and I wished I hadn’t. The ribs are delicious. Chicken can do with a little less lemon but still tasty. Ice creams are also very nice

Can't help but not post about the vaflaki at bbq workshop... 12 squares of perfection with warm chocolate sauce... absolute heaven in a bite, so delicate and airy! Went especially for the vaflaki and was not disappointed. Sorry for the lack of photos gobbled it all down in a matter of minutes.
I got a chicken gyro and chips for takeaway. The gyro was fantastic. It was packed full of filling and their signature pita was outstanding. Sadly the chips were amongst the worst I have ever had. They were dry to the point where I could not eat them.
Best mini waffles with chocolate sauce. We tried the chocolate duo (milk and white chocolate sauce). It's best eaten at the restaurant with a scoop of ice cream
I really loved the zucchini fries - more batter than veg though so don't be fooled into thinking this is a healthy option ! The feta and chilli dip was also amazing.
Went for a quick dinner with a friend a few nights ago. I have always had a good experience at this Rivonia branch. The staff are great, our waiter this time was particularly outstanding!
We both had gyros, which were delicious as always. I had the sweet potato fries for a change, will get normal fries in future.
They have an array of icecream flavours which all look absolutely delicious!

My partner and I visited BBQ workshop rivonia on Saturday and the food and service was nothing short of amazing. We both had calamari for starters which was cooked to perfection. For mains we had the Gyro chicken wrap which I absolutely loved especially since it was cooked on open fire and to end the night we shared the ferrero rocher ice cream. It's a very relaxing environment and the heaters are always on keep us warm which I loved since I was feeling very cold.

Shared the 1kg pork ribs Sunday special. Sauce was amazing. Best ribs I’ve had in a very long time. Service was friendly and good. Would be pricey if not on special.

Definitely better than it's direct rival - rocomamas. Value for money with amazing waffles. Service is great too. Our waffles was taking a while due to a so with the machine, we canceled our order and manager very speedily apologised and gave us the waffles for take away - ex gratis. Keep up the good service.
Great service, great ribs and a great rib special (we went on Sunday) I mistakenly ordered the special as well and couldn’t finish it but it was great. And the ice cream is always lovely so are the milkshakes.
Food was tasty and there was lots of it. The greek salad was perfect, but the hidden gem was the waffle with white chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream and the salted caramel ice cream which I put into my coffee.. Our waitress Sipho, was great!!

Relaxed atmosphere for all times of day. Good for a quick meal. Friendly staff who know the menu well. We had gyro in pita which was very well prepared and an enjoyable meal. Would have been better in a traditional pita, however this establishment has opted for corn pita for their gyros.

Ate here again recently and it was just as good. Service is excellent. I had the bifteki. I should've asked for it medium as it was well done but that was my fault for not checking first. Other than that an excellent meal. Do try the feta chilli dip. It was delicious

Lunch on Friday, tried the pickled octopus as a starter a total rip off at R80 tiny portion and not great, ribs, beef/lamb Jero rolls and chips good but wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
This is a regular spot for me a my family. Service is great and the food is amazing !!! Love the waffles too!!! The staff are friendly and my favourite has to be the chicken souvlaki in pita !

Absolutely love the food at BBQ Workshop. My favorite has to be the hummus and pitas. The restaurant has a Rocomama's vibe with the same menu process. The lamb sliders and pulled pork sliders were very tasty and the zuchini fries crunchy and fresh. I didnt really like the lamb souvlaki, tasted like it needed some marinade but this is more a personal preference. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Zanele and James, a great combination. This is our third full sit down meal after countless visits for pistachio gelato....and James was our first interaction with Management - he set a great tone. Our meals were as good as always. BBQ Workshop is in the heart of Rivonia in the #RivoniaVillage Shopping Centre.

This meaty local in Rivonia seems very popular with the locals, but my food wasn't amazing on this first visit.
Service: We were served by Sharon, who was helpful and friendly.
Food: My meatballs were burnt (but tasty) and my other tapas dishes were okay.
I can't really rave about anything sadly on this first visit, but instead will let the photos speak for themselves.

I am a Rocomamas fanatic and was actually planning on having dinner there when I noticed the BBQ Workshop and decided to try it out. The food was surprisingly good - I had a steak and fries and my boyfriend had their generous rib+chicken option. Both meals were well prepared and although the staff was friendly, the service was pretty slow. Their ice cream bar looks appetising and it seems to be very popular; people even come late at night just to have dessert with their kids. I really wanted to try it but I was WAY too full to go for it...
Next time, I am definitely going for the ice cream first.overall, it was a great vibe.

This place is one of my new found favorites. The meat lovers are in heaven here I am sure, however being a veggie, there is plenty on the menu for me too. I highly recommend the halloumi/ falafel wrapped pita for fellow veggies. It is delicious, boasting with hummus/guacamole flavors that you just can't get enough of! Their ice creams are also simply delicious and they have a wide range of flavors from pistachio to lemon sorbet. Service is good and food comes quickly. Definitely recommend for dinner with friends or even a chilled date night.
First visit...very similar to rocomamas in that you tick your choice on the menu. Loved the falafel in hummus and the pita bread was delicious, I'm sure it's home made! Didn't like the zucchini fries...too much batter. The highlight was the gelato, especially the cookies flavour. And the illy iced coffee was refreshing! Friendly staff and attentive service!
Bbq workshop is certainly my favorite place to go whenever I am in the area. Everything is good about this restaurant .. Food is delicious , service is fabulous , ambience is good.
Really great service. Had the jalapeño and cheese starter, the jalapeños were seriously deadly, ended up ordering a strawberry milkshake to calm my palette. The strawberry milkshake was surprisingly light (just the jar it was served in was quite leaky). Had the chicken pita wrap - it was average.
We finally made it here after doing some admin nearby. Service was great to begin with but slowed down as the afternoon progressed. It wasn't that busy though. The drinks took a while as well as the food. The beers were reasonably cold though. The lamb sliders were good as were the fries, which were nicely seasoned. I'm told the basting on the wings was delicious.

The food: So delicious! The ribs were very soft and had a smoky flavour which set off the BBQ sticky sauce very well. The wrapped pita was delicious. Had the lamb and beef one and added some peri mayo, bacon and avo spread. The combination worked very well. The side salad I had was also pretty decent.
Corn pita bread: Loved this! Usually pita bread is very flaky, very floury and then it ends up breaking off or soaking up fillings. The corn pita was a delightful surprise. It had a lovely texture and remained sturdy until the last bite.
The gelato: I had 3 scoops of ice cream. Mango, Ferrero and hazelnut. Enjoyed the ferrero and hazelnut immensely because of the nutty flavour. I probably would've enjoyed the mango more in a trio of other fruity flavours. All of them were incredibly tasty and smoothe. Perfect treat.
The quality of the service: Lovely staff. The food can get pretty messy. The waiters are aware of that and keep the serviettes coming! 😂

Can't fault the place for much and this rating was purely based on the food which was super yummy. We got there at an awkward time (between afternoon quick bite and dinner) so the service was a tad bit slow but it picked up as the night continued.
Best ribs I've had in a long time & love the ambience.. Their dessert is to die for 😬. Definitely coming back very very soon for other offerings & my friends also loved the place as it was our first time here.
Taste buds have been blessed today. This restaurant was so great. From the most tasty cappuccinos, the stringy halloumi cheese, the flavor packed hummus and tzaztiki dips, to the exceptional yiros and then ending it off with a creamy chocolatey waffle dessert. If I must say so myself, pretty successful night.

Was walking by and the picture of the double chocolate mini waffles caught my eye... had to try it... BEST EVER! probably what heaven feels like.. warm chocolate over freshly baked warm bite sized waffle pieces, with a dollop of fresh cream! Mamma Mia was is amazing!!! The only downside was the unfriendly staff who didn't greet, didn't even acknowledge we were there, wanted to give us a crumpled packet, made it seem like asking for cutlery was a crime but worst of all, spoke about me in their native language and laughed at me for asking for the dessert in the picture - because yes I understand the language. Great dessert, worst staff, you decide.

The perfect adaptation of a take-away concept, that also offers a sit down option. The quality of the food cannot be faulted. A really brilliant selection, something for everyone. A simple selection of drinks is also available, they even serve a great cup of coffee.
We finished off with a gelato. Really brilliant. Can't wait for one to open in Cape Town.

Took my boyfriend here for his bday lunch in October. Our first time at Bbq workshop. Food was really good. Very unqiue and flavourful. We had the open plated meal the chicken skewers and the chicken gryo. Both was fresh and delicious and portions were generous. Service could have been better but overall this is a lovely place to try. Was too full for dessert but defnitely want to try the much talked about vaflaki waffles next time.
This was an amazing experience here. Loved the uniqueness of this place. Just the way you order your food makes you feel really important. You tick your order off on the menu and hand in your menu to the waiter. Loved the food and drinks. Great chill out place and great vibey atmosphere.

Finally got the chance to sink my teeth into these famous waffles... went for dessert to BBQ Workshop and over indulged in their amazing waffles.... the variety is great and offers a selection of pre-arranged concoctions and also offers a "pick your own" suited to your personal taste experience... I would definitely recommend a sweet treat at this restaurant :)

Been wanting to try this place out for ages now and I was not disappointed! Crispy calamari, cheesy croquettes, delicious gyro but the star of the meal was the melt in your mouth, fall off the bone ribs! We finished with the most delectable "waffle", I'm not sure what their technical term is and creamy, chocolate Gelato. Services was a little slow as there were some difficult patrons and the waiter did apologise for the mishap but it didn't put a damper on the evening. Over all Matthew Kapp and I had a great date night and will definitely be back.

This place is great! Nice outside tables that get a nice mix of sun and shade. Good service. The spatchcock chicken was one of the bests I've ever had!! The peri peri basting isn't very hot but it's full of flavour and the chicken was perfectly cooked and moist. I will definitely be back for more soon!

The entree, Ribeye chimchurri, was very disappointing. Chewy, tough, tasteless and practically inedible. Yep - I absolutely know my fillets from sirloins, brisket or any other cuts - so hold the lecture !
I did enjoy the salted butter gelato - very yummy indeed !
I had the beef pita with feta, streaky bacon, hummus and tzatziki which was really good. The milkshakes are a must, they turn a gelato of your choice into it. I had the Ferraro Rocher milkshake. The chips with feta give a unique twist on a regular plate of chips. Overall a really nice meal and I will definitely come back.

Joined my colleagues for our very first bbq workshop experience on Thursday.
They have a lovely large ice cream selection which is transformed to a milkshake of your choice. I firstly sampled the cookies and cream ice cream and asked for it to be transformed to a milkshake. The actual ice cream was great but the milkshake was just ok, it tasted somewhat watered down. I then wanted some cranberry juice was unfortunately unavailable as they only have 2 freshly squeezed juices. We were a group of 14 and I ordered the calamari with tzatzaki as a starter and it was absolutely delicious. My main was a t-bone with fries and although I asked for my Meat to be medium it came out very dry and had a lot of hard fat around so I couldn't finish it as it was too dry for my liking.
We had their renowned vlavaki for dessert which is cubed waffles with ice cream, fresh cream, a touch of Strawberry and some syrup. I had a few but they just tasted like an ordinary waffle and I did not enjoy the ice cream they paired it with.
The ambience is great but the mains take forever to be served.

So incredibly happy with the food at BBQ restaurant. I really like the customizable aspect of the menus (since I can be a picky eater at times). I ordered the beef and lamb gyro (adding some hummus and eggplant too), and my partner had the peri peri spatchcock chicken, which was cooked very well. Come hungry because their ice-cream bar has so many delicious flavours to choose from. I had a scoop of watermelon and a scoop of salted caramel , while my partner choose strawberry and lemon. Everything was delicious
Similar concept to roccommamas, GBC, Andiccio etc where you custom make your meal - this time it's Greek style. Hubby had trio of sliders. I went with open plated Karoo lamb souvlaki served with chips and pita. Lamb was prepared perfectly as medium to well and was very tasty - complemented well by tzatziki. The chips are nicely spiced. They have a selection of mouthwatering ice creams that can be made into milkshakes- had a delicious snickers one. Staff are super friendly and efficient and I will definitely be returning
Dinner a few nights ago (6 September 2016) with some friends. I was going to give this place a 3.5 rating but they truly saved themselves with their food.
The reason why the rating was going to be lower is although when we were served the waiters were nice and friendly- the overall service was so slow and the food took a very long time to come out.
So we arrived at 18:45 and got seated. We then proceeded to order some drinks.
Our drinks came around 20 minutes or so later.
We then ordered our food. Our food took about 45 minutes to come out of the kitchen.
Although I don't generally mind waiting, I just feel that for what we ordered it took an extraordinarily long time to be made.
However, in their favor when we did eat the food was exceptional. It was tasty, flavorsome and quite fantastic.
Their iced cream is also so delicious. Their selection is so huge and so worth the calories.
The prices are really affordable and I'll definitely be back soon.
Have seen the mini waffles (vaflaki) on Facebook a number of times and often suggested it to others so needed to visit ourselves, and was not disappointed. Food was really tastey, all 4 of us had pitas. But hands down the dessert was amazing. With little or no space we managed to finish the chocolate smothered waffles, which are light and fresh. Website states 9am as opening time, we arrived at 9:45 to be told only open at 10:30 but we were allowed to sit and have coffee at least. Service was fantastic
Celebrated my birthday at BBQ Workshop about two weeks ago. I was honestly a bit nervous as to how good the service would be because I had about 25 guests at my table (with a few more gatecrashers!). Needless-to-say the service was exceptional. Karabo and Giorgio took care of us from beginning to end and were friendly, fast and enthusiastic. All our food arrived at the same time and everyone was really happy with their meals. I highly recommend BBQ Workshop to anyone looking celebrate any special occasion. Food gets a 4.5 :) love this place (but more of a takeaway place) - and the amount of takeaways there were taking place proves its a popular one for more takeout than sit down. Had the saganaki - yum! and very generous with the feta in the dish. Friends had the pulled pork gyro and bunny hugger. All very tasty and fresh and full of flavour. Had ice creams for dinner - pistachio wasn't the best. but the snickers one was great! overall, would go back for gyros and perhaps try an assortment of their dips and starters to share with friends. Friendly service too!

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants. I haven't wanted to write a review as to keep this place a secret. But this is really a must go!
It is always buzzing with people and for good reason. The Greek food here is insanely delicious and so far the closest to the authentic Giro's in Greece.
The managers and staff are always so helpful and friendly. We, without fail, order the chicken Giros and we add chips inside (to get the authentic Greece touch). And without fail, we are never disappointed.
The wrap itself is absolutely delicious and the chicken which is cooked on imported Greece machinery is tender and tasty. Their chips are also absolutely delicious!
Then finally, you cannot come here without ordering their vaflaki (waffles). We always order the double trouble which is waffles drizzled in milk and white chocolate. The waffles are like airy goodness!
Their ice cream is top notch as well as their milkshakes.
We have brought many people here who have then brought more people here so it is definitely one of those restaurants you want to introduce everyone to because of how delicious the food is.
Catch up lunch with friends... when we arrived it was a little busy. Manager helped us right away.. we did move 3 times... hehe. yes one of those customers.. but after settling down with my first glass of wine. we all decided on diffrent types of Gyro,I went for the beef/lamb option...yummiest ever Bee went for chicken, with extra tzatziki. For dessert was the lemon sorbet to finish off another amazing afternoon with good company.

One of the best Greek places in Joburg! A must go and highly recommended. From the ambience to music to service and of course food is out of the world. The waitron who helped us was very knowledgeable and gave us suggestions and whatever she suggested was spot on. Although it was a bit cold as none of the heaters were working but the food & service compensated for that. On the dessert side, their ice creams (Gelatos) to their waffles are mind blowing and the food is great ranging from their burgers to souvlaki and Gyros. Shall he visiting again soon!!

Good; It's an easy place to grab a light lunch during working hours. We've eaten here twice and we haven't had anything bad to say. The lamb and beef in a pita was pretty good, and the chicken burgers weren't bad (although they could have been a bit more juicy). The service both times was great; I noticed both times the manager came over to check on us.
Lovely restaurant to enjoy a family meal at. They always satisfy your expectations. Well worth it.

I must say that the quality of service here is of a very high level. They are placed in a very competitive restaurant area. In terms of value for money in regard to their food and drinks they are really very reasonable. Give them a go if you are looking for a different meal to the norm. Their desserts by the way are on a completely different level their ice cream waffles pastry tarts are seriously good. Promise you won't be disappointed

Always a pleasant ambiance, work, pleasure or with family! Nick the Manager is forever welcoming and great service all the time!! It’s my favorite spot whenever I’m around. The food is also awesome and something special with those mini waffles with chocolate sauce!
We had their BBQ chicken special which was a whole chicken and a side doe R89. The chicken was grilled perfectly and so juicy. The sauce was delicious as well. We ordered extra coleslaw which was creamy and tasty. The food here is really good and there's a great vibe. Their chicken special is more than enough for 2 people to share. Would definitely recommend it!
Was happy that this spot opened for sit in dining recently. Everything I have eaten has been good. Recently had the whole grilled chicken on special - great value for money. Fresh, good taste, juicey and well seasoned. Was a little disappointed with the vaflaki this time - golden on the outside but undercooked on the inside and the batter lacked sugar. Good service but the waiter was a little distracted and didn't notice i didn't have a plate. Manager was friendly and on hand to assist. Definitely worth a visit - great menu with lots to choose from.
