Review Pron - Johannesburg

Ann Khosa
One of the best experiences in Johannesburg. The best service I have had in a while, the lady who was assisting us ( assuming the manager ) was very friendly and recommended dishes to try. Basically helped us order! Not complaining because her recommendation was on point. Enjoyed every meal. All the dishes were great, I can’t even get to reviewing each of them.
Alex Muller
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. A new favorite spot for me and company. If you're looking for interesting and flavorful noodle soups, this place is worth checking out. Other than that, thier side dishes are also delicious. So far, everything is top quality.
Viroshnee Naicker
Everything about this place was perfect. The host is such a lovely person. She's welcoming and helpful. She curated our entire meal, and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing! From the starters to the mains, we enjoyed every dish. If you're in the area and you enjoy Asian food, then please give them a try.
Joanne du Toit
OMG the best meal ever. I can’t wait to go back. The small plates were mouthwatering- cumin lamb / beef short rib / dumplings - wow.
Eric Zacharie
The food here does not disappoint. We really enjoyed all the dishes so don't feel nervous to try something new. The service was a bit slow but adequate.
Jasmine
The food was amazing! Took a while before the waitress gave us our menus and then came to take our order. Other than that everything was perfect Can definitely recommend the Sweet and Sour Chicken as well as the dumplings! The manager is very lovely as well! Will definitely come back!

Delicious food and friendly service. I ordered the Kimchi and Pork Belly Noodle Soup, veg potstickers, and the milk drink. All so tasty! Highly recommend. The bubble tea was just okay. Nothing to write home about.

Best Asian food and noodles in all of Johannesburg. Beautiful setting. Delicious dishes. Friendly service. My favourite spot for noodles in the city. Beef flank noodles, break bread, and the potstickers are my personal favourite but everything I've tried has been fantastic.
Eleanore Viljoen
What a wonderful experience. The service is great and the food is delicious. We had chicken and pork dumplings, sticky chicken wings and green beans from the small plate section. All 3 dishes were super tasty. For mains we had beef noodles which are freshly made and the balance of the sauce is perfect. The food is served with the most tasty chilli oil. The restaurant was also almost full, which tells me that we are not the only people who loved the food. Highly recommended.
Irakli Rekhviashvili
Fantastic service and food. Would recommend their dumplings (their specialty. Heads up, it takes 20 minutes).
Lesedi “The Story Oracle” Mogoatlhe
I love it here. It's a down to earth place with great tasting food and an amazing host. They always make space for us even though we don't book. Just wish they had a bigger veg selection for my bae, otherwise divine - highly recommend
Jessica
Best sweet and sour chicken around! Had a great vibe, the friendliest staff and quick and delicious meal. Great restaurant full of authentic decor!
Victor
This place is magic, the hostess was brilliant and guided me into ordering delicious food. The atmosphere is unique and beautiful. I admire the way this restaurant is run and is one of my favourites for sure
Megan Miller
Oh my gosh! The food was amazing, the vibe was amazing, the owner has such a friendly and welcoming presence. There is a lot of food! 😂 One noodle bowl will fill you for a day! It’s so reasonably priced and so flavourful and there is SO. MUCH. FOOD ! 10/10 would recommend.
Angie
Absolutely amazing food. Friendly staff. And gorgeous venue. My favourite- Beef shank noodles which are to die for. That broth is life changing!
John Haenen
Chinese street food. There is a traditional menu, but it's the small plates that are the real thing here. Be warned that the noodle bowls are huge, enough for two people or a portion for tomorrow's lunch. Wide choice, and everything is good. Possibly the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in SA. Prices are on the upper end, but not overwhelming. Even mid-week they are pretty busy, so book ahead. On our last visit we had to wait a shirt while for a 4 seat table. Parking is plentiful and free. Do tip the street guard though.

What a lovely evening. The service was great and the waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. Just note the prices as it's not necessarily the best place to bring young kids.
Nokukhanya K
Food never disappoints. Attentive service and warm vibe.
Nikita Pillay
The food was so good & by far the best dumplings I’ve had. The decor was amazing & the service? Even better! 10/10
Ewert Snyman
Good service and great food. It was an experience that we will most definitely return for. All the different flavours were great without being too strange or overwhelming.
Gerald B Lau
Lovely setting to enjoy the food. Try the tapas dishes for starters before deciding from a wide variety of Noodle dishes. End off the meal with Sesame ice cream and Pron coffee (Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk). Will have to come back to try the Dian Xin (Dim sum) treats.
Teznee Pillay
Authentic restaurant, the owner was super friendly and gave us a few suggestions to try on the menu and we were not disappointed. We tried an assortment of dumplings, a spicy lamb dish with handbreak bread as well as the Dan Dan Noodles, it was all delish! Just the right amount of chilli and spice. Such a great setting with beautiful decor. The Martini I had was also really yum. Had a great evening, hope to be back soon!

First time in this restaurant in Linden and sure we’ll be back again , the beef potstickers were amazing and the pork and prawn dumplings fabulous , then we had the noodles wonderful! Try also the hand bread ! 10/10
Usha
Pron is authentic Chinese after eating there I know what we eat at the local Chinese places are not the authentic Chinese food... Love it being there twice.
Chris De Beer
It's all about the noodles, the DanDan noodles was amazing, great falvours. The szechaun chicken noodles was also very tasty, the pickles bought the balance to the dish. Service was good.

I walked in early tonight and thought it is real quiet.
Grabbed a seat in the gas heated front and were immediately greeted by the friendly waiters.
Received the menus and thought ok, not a large selection, but I willl give the dumplings a go!
I had the sweet and sour pork dumplings and were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic taste and the beauty of the hand made, freshly prepared starter!
I ordered the hand brake bread and the Kim chi from the tapas next. What an amazing taste experience. Freshly baked bread from a pan, delicately tearing apart and beautifully balanced in flavour. The Kim chi were fresh, crispy and just amazing! The Hostess were constantly available and making great suggestions!
My main were the noodles with pork mince? A recommendation by the Hostess, and I thought the Angel's were singing in my mouth! It were perfectly balanced on the spices, greeting you at the entrance with a slight zing on the lips and a dance of flavours on the tong. The noodles were freshly prepared on the premises and the pork were not mince but rather pork belly chopped by knife and the spiced.
The desert, O my!!
I am a true chocolate fanatic and...
I had the chilli chocolate tart.
Once brought out I thought it is a disappointment in size, because everything else were generous portions, but when I tried to use the cake fork to cut in ro the tart I realised it is pure ganache heaven. It is just the perfect size and yes it were a perfect end to an amazing meal.
I thought I'd order the in house coffee and again it were perfectly strong coffee with a great addition of the condensed milk!
For anyone who loves food, yes food in general, Pron is a must visit place. Be open minded and plunge in to the experience of cuisine prepared with love and care!

Was a bit disappointed with our visit to Pron. Read the reviews prior to getting there and thought would be worth our while to try it out. The owner was super friendly and suggested we try a few items from the menu. The only good choice was the fried greenbeans. Lol.Setting is very cold. Not a dinner restaurant in winter.
Lulu
Owner run with fantastic service. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Food was fresh and tasty. Loved the bread and the chilli on the table since we like spicier food.
Thabiso Camilo Christopher
Brilliant food, a proactive manager, and a great looking restaurant - all of which make PRON the most genuine and delicious Chinese restaurant in the Randburg area 😁
Megtruter
Had a wonderful time.
Their tapas are tasty, especially the beans thing, and this weird bread dipped in the ramen is incredible.
Waiters were friendly and efficient.
Defs going back
Annika Forsberg Langa
This is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in Johannesburg. It has an authentic and genuine feel. Love the decor - and the spicy Sichuan chicken noodles. The bread from Northern China is a delight with chili sauce. I’m also a fan of the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. I would have given Pron five stars if there was one or two children’s dishes on the menu.
Nick Song
Visited on a Monday night and was pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant sufficiently busy. You will be welcomed and treated with the best service with staff that are knowledgable about the dishes. You dining experience really feels cared for. The dishes are simple yet have distinct and delicious flavours. Well worth visiting!
Tebogo Ngodela
Great service, great experience very cozy resturaunt and the owner is friendly too. I ordered 3 different dishes and they were all good . 😊😊😊
Angelo Aquilano
Emma Chen, you've done it again. What a fine establishment! Fantastic starters for a variety of tastes: the hand-break bread and the green beans are grand. The Sechuan Chili chicken is a firm favourite. The decor is quirky and stylish without being gimmicky. Highly recommended as we always leave with a smile.
Francois Marais Van Zyl
As the name suggest -Peoples Republic of Noodles - delicious and homemade noodles are the main theme and ingredient.
Chinese restaurant in Linden across Louw Geldenhuys Primary School.
Very friendly welcome by Emma the owner and hostess.
Simple menu but contains delicious tapas and main dishes.
Mouthwatering flavours although same are a bit bland.
Well worth a visit.
Tonight we tried Pron. I’m quiet the broth addict at the moment, so the beef flank noodle soup attracted me.

Making a reservation is best for this space as it gets quite busy. We called an hour ahead and got lucky.

Upon being seated we were provided with menus - we proceeded to order drinks. I had the green tea - from China, it had a rose water and honey flavour to it. Very refreshing.

For starters my husband and I shared the brinjal salad and hand break bread (it’s like having a malabar paratha from Chennai). It was my favourite dish. Absolutely loved the flavours.

My husband had the Sichuan chilli chicken. It was not very spicy. I like the pickles that accompanied it. However, for me it wasn’t a favourite. He enjoyed it tons.

The beef flank noodle soup had really tasty beef, perfectly cooked soba style noodles and a great broth. I highly recommend it.

I look forward to my next Peron eat out.

Great service, fantastic food, lekka ambiance! We felt really welcome and the food was explained to us with the same passion that it was made 10/10!
Amith Bhudram
The service was good but the food took 40 minutes to arrive. The flavours in the Kimchi somehow didn't manage to infuse into the ingredients. Each ingredient tasted amazing like itself with no spice being transfered into the meat or the noodles
Niel Knoblauch
Great spot for Northern Chinese food (especially noodles). We love their spicy dishes! And the atmosphere and service add to the authentic experience. The food might not be everyone's taste, so be open to something different. The owner is great at recommending a tailored combination of dishes. #Linden
Nicole Rossouw
We love the beef noodles here. The menu is short and sweet but food is really delicious. Service is great as well. Have recommended it to several people and everyone usually raves about it.
Ashdesai5
Pron is a great little find with an alternative Schezuan menu. The menu has some very different dishes, such as their chilli Tofu dish. Overall a great find, for a different Chinese experience.
Maja
Great restaurant with a great atmosphere! And the food is phenomenal. Portions are nice and big, so they are well worth the price. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and the owner is involved and pleasant. Will definitely return.
Good service, lovely atmosphere. The owner, Emma, is very friendly and makes suggestions based on your preferences.
We ordered a few tapas plates with their hand break bread for starters and then a few noodle bowls to share for mains.
The tapas were an interesting mix of unusual ingredients and flavours. That hand break bread was tasty (It's basically a fried roti)
The noodles were quite filling but I felt they lacked depth of flavour. I enjoyed the sweet potato noodles in broth, they were quite satisfying.
Chiara Louis
Quaint Asian eatery close enough to Sandton. Nice for Winter with its cost interiors and heart-warming dishes. Very reasonably priced too! Had just about every starter on the menu shared with friends, all were tasty! Loved the dandan noodles for mains! Could do with a wider wine selection though...

Ah. PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF NOODLES
I'd emigrate here if it was an option.
Its highly recommended by some people. We arrived for lunch on Saturday. The place was packed to the rafters, but we walked into almost no greeting, someone says hello from a table, there appears to be no staff... we wander in. The woman who greeted us from the table turned out to be the owner we think.. she seats us and gives menus.
There's 2 halves to the menu, small dishes and noodle dishes. We get 2 and 2. Our starters arrive 1 at a time. That's actually better for us but I'm not sure it works for everyone.
We have Wood ear salad, its so weird to the western pallet. The wood ears are a strange glassy crunchy jelly like mushroom. I'm not kidding. Its served with snap peas and a mustard dressing... at first i was like "what the hell is this?!" ... then i had another one... and i was like "I'm not so keen on this... " then we polished the plate.
We got fish 5 spice, its very fishy. I can't place the fish but i think it's a pilchard type fish. Again, i started out not really liking it and it grew on me.
On the noodle front i had dandan noodles. It's a drier noodle dish, its soba style noodles with minced pork, green onion and Japanese spinach with a little broth. I thought it was meant to be really spicy but it was not. It is tasty. Ginger and light green chili. The noodles themselves are near to perfect. A good chew on em.
I'm a little in love.
Partner had a duck ramen. The broth is really sweet, its unusually sweet but somehow it works.

I left wanting to go back inside for more. Not because i was hungry but because every passing moment without these noodles is a moment away from my calling.

Wow where do I start with this hidden gem of Johannesburg 😅went in a group of 6 , some veg and some non veg ... cause we were super starving we left it up to Emma the owner who was fab in putting a few dishes together , for tapas the green beans , brinjal and a lamb and chicken dish ... they were all divine the flavors were unusual and tasty ... we finished the plates ... then the noodle dishes arrived 3 veg options and 2 meat ( chicken dishes ) -again to die for .... the circle bread was fresh and delicious 😋

Discovered an underground private dining room ... lovely for a special occasion....

I will be back for sure and telling lots of people about this place .. service was excellent even from the waiters ( Gugu )

Emma was fab with all her suggestions...
thank u thank u !!!

Finally had a chance to have lunch @hot_at_pron in Linden!
Very simple menu with only tapas and noodles options. This restaurant has no frills when it comes to the set up and table decor however the meals are packed with flavor. We were hungry when arriving at the restaurant with no reservation so went straight to mains (noodles) and one tapas to share. We thoroughly enjoyed the noodles; Sichuan Chilli chicken for me and pepper chicken for my better half. You can taste the freshness of the noodles which are made fresh each day with beautiful veggies still crunchy and bright in color (the pics don’t do it justice). I was surprised with the brinjal salad - it was devine and cooked perfectly. This restaurant served a delicious meal and was good value for money; 3 dishes (2 x noodles + 1 x tapas) and 3 bottles of aloe juice @R289.00 #pron #asiancusine #noodles #flavorful #linden
Marina Patuel
We loved the food and the hostess was so helpful with explaining the menu. Can’t wait to go back! The chili oil and hand break bread are amazing! I could never cook brinjals as tasty as they do.
Jolene
Amazing little Asian spot with the tastiest noodles! It's a simple no-fuss noodle bar with HUGE portions, but extremely reasonably priced! The manager is so cute and always checks up on you, but the service can be quite slow sometimes. Love coming here nonetheless.

My friend and I went on a ramen restaurant finding taste adventure. We stumbled on PRON via reviews on Google.

So the noodles aren't ramen but udon noodles. Hey, we were hungry and we decided to go off path slightly.

So this delicious dish is called Beef Flank Noodle soup. It is a massive serving and worth the price. This dish has simple but tastey flavours. Really hits the spot. Heads up the noodles make you bloated but so worth it.

The only thing I can fault the restaurant on is the staff and owner pushing us to try different dishes. If you suggest it once it's absolutely fine. But once you start acting pushy almost forcing us to get two different dishes it gets really annoying. My friend and I wanted to try that specific dish and it's our choice haha. But anyho, it's all good.

Despite that little hiccup, the food and atmosphere was relaxed👍🏾
Blake
We tried 5 different dishes and all were unfortunately very average (and that is being generous).
The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful though
Janet Kilian
Wonderful experience.
Wonderful food.
Wonderful service
Friendly. Welcoming. Accommodating. Delicious.
A fresh taste of Chinese food. So glad we found this gem.

All that can be said.........is in the experience!!!
If you have not eaten at PRON, you are doing yourself an awful injustice!!

Excellent authentic food, delicate flavourful exquisite!
Excellent service
Excellent hostess
Excellent atmostphere
Excellent value
Excellent experience!!!!

Just get there .....and simply enjoy........

Gio
0765094590
Literally my favorite restaurant these days. No fancy, complicated menu or inflated prices. Just great hearty Asian food packed with flavour. The noodle bowls are huge- I recommend sharing one between two people and maybe getting a few starters/ tapas on the side. The service is great. The owner personally attends to each table to make sure everyone is satisfied. My favorite dish is the beef short ribs small plate... just great.
Prelene
Such an unassuming restaurant with amazing food, great service and viby ambience. You must try their handmade signature bread. Brinjal salad was outstanding. And beware the noodle soup feeds 3.
Hena B
Simply... sensational food and wonderful service.
Portions are massive as seven of us shared two starters (beef short ribs and spicy lamb) and 4 noodles (Beef flank, Spicy beef, Chashao pork and Sichuan Chilli chicken) for mains and still had some leftovers. All dishes were great and their hand-break bread is delicious as well.
Supervundu
Solid take on "authentic" Chinese. Will go back to explore more of the menu. A dash more seasoning will go a long way. But good for a Friday night out - noodle bowls are massive!
Megan
The food is just amazing here - I’ve loved everything.. chicken in red chili oil, dry fried beans, sichuan chili chicken noodles, dandan noodles, chashao noodles, hand break bread - All incredible! I love the decor. And the people are beyond incredible! Always friendly and smiley and so welcoming! I go there at least once a week if possible..
Recently went to get a takeaway with my dog in tow, and the lovely manager brought out a bowl of water while I waited. Just so thoughtful.

Highly recommended in every way!
Nick
What a nice little place. Popped in the other day for supper. Really authentic Chinese flavours, well prepared food and very friendly and accommodating staff.
Amir Shneor
Delicious food!! Very tender and fresh beef.
Noodles were amazing.
Waitress was very insightful and so friendly.
Owner came round to recommend what to get and see how we were enjoying our meal.
Definitely coming back.
Shreyoshi Dey
Go there is you want to explore a different style of Chinese preparation..a very cosy ambiance and not so prompt service..the manager was running around everywhere..may be we just went on a wrong day..We din get one of the item's we ordered till we were done with our dinner,so we were compensated with a dessert
Varushka Padayachi
PRON is definitely a gem. The decor is beautiful, cosy and inviting. The service was fantastic, very attentive and our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered great advice when it came to choosing dishes. We started with the garlic ribs, which were very crispy and had a good flavor, as well as the wood ear mushrooms in a mustard sauce. The wood ears are incredible! For me, it's the best dish there but the flavor is quite strong and the texture is very interesting, so not for the non-adventurous eater. For mains my friend had the sweet potato noodles with pork mince which he enjoyed. I had the Chashao pork. I loved the pork which was flavorful and tender and the noodles were sensational however I found the broth to by cloyingly sweet, I think it just wasn't to my taste. In retrospect I would have asked for less broth as the portion was absolutely enormous. For two, I would recommend ordering starters but sharing a main.
Radha Chhita-Nathoo
Great food
Amazing service
Always consistent
Very well run
Cucumber salad is delicious
Great vegetarian options
Rainy day noodles is must
Hearty food
Dani Gama
One of my favorite little restaurants.
Incredibly comfortable and loving atmosphere.
Food wise the portions are big and keeping in tradition with its sharing culture.
The green beans are a must! I am a recently converted green bean lover because of this restaurant.
Cuppycake
Great place and great food!!!
Menu is a bit limited but i was very impressed with what i had. What i mostly appreciated is the fact that the manager makes an effort to explain the menu too you, she also gave possible options that we might enjoy, so we listened to her and chose the 3 dishes she recommended and it was damn good! Definately returning!
Ivan Huang
Awesome food and amazing flavor especially the chilly sauce ! The hand break bread is must have will definitely come again. The staff is so friendly and the owner will come personally give you good recommendations on what to eat for the first time customer.
Reema Vather
excellent service - the hostess explains the menu and made a great recommendation. we had the spicy chicken noodles which was good but the tapas fish dish was the best. My husband had the beef short ribs which was smoky and delicious. The house bread isn't all that great but worked well to mop up the flavorsome fish gravy. Interested to sample the other flavours so we will be back.
Bernard Ben Nel
Very interesting northern Chinese cuisine. Not your run of the mill Chinese restaurant. Noodles and bread being the main starch. Not a massive menu, but everything is very tasty. A small cut above the ordinary
Zané Aspinall
We had such a nice meal at Pron last night. I really enjoyed the Satay Beef and my husband had the Sichuan Chilli Chicken noodle bowl. Oh and the hand bread is a must! Good service, great authentic food, 5 stars! Thank you Emma & Team, we will be back.
Deez Beez
Pron is definitely one of my top 3 restaurants. The dry fried green beans, the tofu and cucumber salad and another menu item I had last summer, cold summer noodles, are definitely must haves. Vegetarian friendly and delicious. Emma Chen the owner is a wonderful woman. Thank you for sharing these authentic flavours with us, Emma.
Salmon22
Best restaurant for vegans and non vegans alike! This one is a favourite. Have the wood ear mushrooms, spicy brings, hand made bread and tofu soup with rice noodles! Yum
Jess Morris
Amazing restaurant! Authentic food, friendly service and awesome decor. I loved every minute of it. Definitely will be back! The hand bread is phenomenal.
Dagggers
Such an amazing experience. The hostess explained all the dishes to us first timers. The flavones were explosive and the service was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
Robert Nel
The service is great and the food is simple and delicious in flavoring! The hostess gives a really nice feel and happy to help choose from the menu!!

Definitely will be coming back
Danielle Botha
Pron is undoubtedly one of my favourite places to eat. The décor is striking, interesting and incredibly meticulously chosen.

The Char Sui Noodles are absolutely delicious. Sweet, smokey, carefully made and just generally delicious. The handmade bread is also delicious, though I haven't had an item there that didn't taste sublime.

The staff is friendly. The food is fantastic. The decor truly is intriguing and fun. It ticks off all the right boxes. If we only lived close by, I don't think I'd ever leave.
Sharima Bramannan
Let's just start by saying I'm a big Emma Chen fan. It took me a while to visit Pron but I finally did. I enjoyed it. The food was flavourful and fresh. I had the noodles with Sichuan chicken and some hand bread. Service is great and the waitress have a good knowledge of the items on the menu.
Karine Bezuidenhout
My first time here and I'm very impressed. I had the fish flakes as starter and Beef flank soup noodles as main. I can strongly recommend both, the flavors are great and the home made noodles you won't get in a packet . I won't recommend the Fire Water though, it's hectic!
Maria Mallick
Such a cute place tucked in Linden. I loved the decor ,so authentic. The owner is hands on, felt very welcomed :). We ended up sharing Tapas and the noodles. My favorite was the fried beans and black pepper chicken noodles, I could just eat the noodles on their own they were amazing. Although I must admit it is a big portion of noodles so sharing would be a better choice 👌🏻
Paul Scott
Very welcoming with great food. Great for ordering an assortment of the starters to share. No deep fried items dripping in oil or gelatinous sweet and sour sauces on the menu here, PRON has got way more class than that!
Taralyn Moodley
A bunch of my friends and I went here on a cold winter's night a few weeks ago and it was heart and belly warming. We ordered a variety of the tapas style dishes (many of which are vegan friendly). It was delicious. The tofu dishes were to die for as well as the brinjal and green bean dishes! Loved it! Great food especially if you enjoy the sharing vibe with tapas. The staff and owner are extremely sweet and welcoming. They even stayed open for us later than usual which was so accommodating and kind. We just couldn't get enough of it. Definitely recommendable
Cobus Berner
Extemely good food. The owner is passionate and involved and the service efficient. Just great food!
This is a place that can easily become your regular restaurant.
Nikolayenkostacy
We started with the authentic pig ear salad - slightly spicy, textural and utterly delicious. Spicy aubergine salad was a revelation in its simplicity, silky smooth with perfect seasoning. The signature pull-apart bread is almost like a paratha, but without the heaviness of the ghee. We tried two of the noodle dishes - Dandan noodles with pork were deeply savory, you can tell the noodles are freshly made and are the star of the show. The noodles with duck leg equally yummy. Setting is simple, service was warm and attentive - PRON is a great little gem, we will be back to try the rest of the menu!
Grant & Sam
We tried most of the vegetarian and pescatarian dishes. The dorado fish dish was a standout, and the others were pretty good too, and generally good portion sizes. The only disappointing dish was the green beans, because they were not crispy and hot. The scallion pancakes were quite a small portion for the price, so we probably wouldn't order this on a return visit.

The owner was very friendly and made recommendations on suitable dishes. The waiter was ok, a tad forgetful.
Nicole Kruger
Awesome!! Girls dinner filled with loads of different foods, wines and laughs and of course vanilla bean ice cream. Absolutely delicious food and happy friendly service ❤❤
Louise Perold
One of my favourite places .. unpretentious, everything consistently delicious (I have dreams about the bread and green beans), small winelist with great wines that are reasonably priced. Passion and care shine through in everything..
Wesley Hattingh
Had a FANTASTIC time at PRON, delicious Chinese style "tapas". The Thinly sliced pork was especially delicious, as were the green beans and garlic. Lovely setting and attentive, friendly service to boot!
Dewald Katzke
I had a great time at the people's republic of noodles. Definitely worth a visit try the black pepper chicken noodles and the fried green beans. If you only come for the green beans then the time will be well spent.
Steph Glover
I absolutely loved this place!
The decor is fabulous and our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The owner gave us some background about the food style and what was on the menu. Not being a huge fan of heavy Chinese food, I really enjoyed this place, everything is light, fresh and delicious. This is also mentioned on the back of menu, where you can read about the restaurant's story. For starters we had the hand break bread and red chilli chicken (I highly recommend this if you love chilli and coriander). For mains we shared the spicy beef noodles, which were fantastic. I will definitely come back here.

PRON is where noodle broth dreams come true. Having been on the hunt for simple, authentic, no-frills traditional broths and soups, PRON was a welcome find in an already impressive foodie neighborhood. Their servings are generous (please take note if you're any other restaurant in Joburg) and their menu is simple, with a handful of tried and tested failsafe comfort food dishes. Their prices are fairly reasonable (about an average of R85 for a main and R60 for a starter)- though the best thing on their menu- their bread- is by far overpriced (not that that stopped me from eating two in a row). Their location is great, the restaurant itself has that hard to come by homey feel, and even without a reservation they're willing to make a plan. Heads up, the waiters will ask you how you're doing every 4-7 seconds, but if you're willing to power through that you're in for a good time.
Foodie Lover
Lunch yesterday, lamb with cumin and the sea weed salad amazing the dry fried string beans very average, overall not bad, service friendly and good.
Lauren
PRON - People's Republic of Noodles, Linden. Authentic North Chinese cuisine. Like nothing we've ever experienced, absolutely delicious from beginning to end. Fish slices with five flavours, chicken with red chilli oil, hand-break bread, black pepper chicken noodles (freshly made), dark chocolate and chilli tart with dandelion tea. Yum yum yum. Sue the manager was outstanding explaining the dishes, spices and flavours, the staff and service excellent. Loved the bright colours and decor. Take pleasure in paying for really good food and service. We will most definitely be back!
Nicole Kayley Langsford
Absolutely loved PRON! The food was so delicious! I wanted to eat everything on the menu. Had a lovely bottle of wine to accompany the menu. The staff were extremely friendly and made it a really great experience.
Diana Mak
If you are looking for authentic chinese noodles then this is the place to visit! It's owned by a Chinese lady who was seating her guests, running up and down into the kitchen, serving the delicious noodles and asking all the tables if everything fine! She's really hands on. The Chinese pancakes for starters was great for sharing.
Gabriella Maxine Abrahams
The food as good but if you have fussy eaters with you this is a no go restaurant. If you like Asian food PRON is great and very seasonal.

I would recommend the chilly chicken as well as the Asian flatbread with green onion.
Pieter
PRON, what a disappointment as a first experience, not enjoyable at all.
Table ware far below standard for a supposedly up market joint
Food not what was expected, noodles and dishes, not enjoyable
Won't even be considered again, even at the outside
Emily Pun
Please let me know if you manage to find a restaurant more authentic than PRON, especially ones that are not catered just to the westernized south African taste palette.

Emma is attentive to her customers, and the food that is put on the table. If you want to grab Northern Chinese food to the T, then maybe you should go to China. For what it is, and for the limited ingredients south African markets manage to sell, it is beyond expectations.
Thembi Lizza Nazo Skele
I totally loved this restaurant.
the food tasted like genuine Chinese food the last time I tasted yummy food like this was definitely in china. .. it's one of those restaurants you have to visit with close friends. The owner 's suggested meals were absolutely amazing.. the chocolate cake was out of this world I totally recommend.

We had a Friday evening out at this quaint restaurant. Service was prompt, the hostess was great- gave good advice and took orders quickly. The noodles are absolutely yummy! We combined some tapas and noodles. Everything was tasty and good. The hand-break bread is a must. Will be back

We decided to come on Valentines which saw the service stretched to it limits however that did not affect the entire experience at all, and a great experience it was!

There was a certain authenticity about coming here that I've never felt at a Chinese restaurant before. PRON has just enough je ne sais quoi while still feeling homely.

The kitchen is open which meant we could see them preparing the strong and refreshing flavors we experienced with our chili chicken noodles and five flavour fish and shaved beef tapas.

The menu is curated to the owners culture and experience in the northern parts of China were she only ate Noodles and Tapas-like dishes. They not catering for everyone but that's what make PRON unique and special to submerge into. They do call it the People's Republic of Noodles after all.

A very small menu (which is great for indecisive people like myself) and everything on the menu is absolutely amazing. Great vibe. Amazing service. Wonderful food.

What a delightful dining experience - PRON was busy and buzzing on a rainy Thursday evening with lots of happy diners. We found the service to be attentive and good, with a couple of visits from Emma herself who happily shared her story and background to the different items on the small menu. We loved her hand-break bread and paired it with the dry friend beans and chashao pork slices tapas. On Emma's recommendation, we then shared a steaming bowl of the black pepper chicken noodles which packed a flavour munch and were more than enough for two to share. Dessert was a highlight with my husband savouring their homemade ice-cream and me enjoying their chilli dark chocolate tart (best to save space for this one - it is incredible, with the right balance of crumbling pastry and decadent chilli dark chocolate filling!). Thoroughly enjoyable and well-priced. We'll be back!

It's a nice spot in Linden, but with a terribly limited wine menu. As I don't drink red or white I had luckily brought out a half bottle of a wine I enjoy just in case. The owner agreed to this. The menu is pretty limited as well and the waitress was unable to explain what the dishes were. Service was really slow and waitress quite hopeless, took about 30min to get the drinks organised. Wouldn't recommend the fish tapas dish very horrible fishy taste. I wouldn't visit this restaurant again.

This place is really awesome... I might not have enjoyed the taste but I love the intentionality of the owner explaining the why behind the what. A place to enjoy different style of food and would go back to try other things.

If you are looking for something fresh and satiating at the same time, then this is the place. Had some stuff of the tapas menu (the irony is not lost on
me)-really good. Five spice fish was really good! This was followed by Spicy Beef Noodles! Yum! Very hearty! Look it's not wowzers!👀. But it was good food!

Fantastic restaurant with a great menu! We went for dinner and enjoyed the food and the vibe! Can definitely recommend the pork mince noodles and the home made chili sauce!

Chante Daries
Loved the food. Great portions.
Description of the menu would be useful although a sense of surprise is also good. Great cocktails.

We tried this place tonight and it was so unexpectedly good! The other reviews have been good but driving by it seemed a bit unassuming. How wrong that was. We tried a small selection of the tapas; the fish slices, Chashao pork, dry fried green beans, and the shaved beef. Each one was delicious - the beef and green beans being the favourites. Next, we had a noodle dish; the beef flank soup noodles, the Sichuan chili chicken noodles, and the pork mince noodles. The highlight for us were the beef flank soup noodles - meltingly tender beef cooked in a deeply flavourful Asian master stock with pak choy and noodles. With this dish slurping is highly recommended! Service was attentive, quick and very efficient. All in all, a wonderful first time experience! We shall definitely return.

Great food with amazing flavours. The staff know what's good, and will make good suggestions.
Pricing is decent, if you aren't big eaters, the main noodle dish is big, but you'll want to split it with most of the tapas. Everything compliments each other well, and I'm really happy I eat out there.

Noodles - wet your lips worthy ! Memories of Emma from Red Chamber. The hostess, one of Emma's peeps runs the place so well. Even made us try a different style of Tofu as we're not fans of the "usual" style.

Husband and I came for an impromptu late lunch on a Friday. The service was majorly slacking, but we got there after the lunch rush when the waiters were all breaking for lunch, so it was forgivable, especially since the manager took us over personally when she saw the waiters were absent.

We had the pork and the plum beef tapas, which was delicious, interesting, out of the ordinary. We also shared the Sichuan Chicken noodles which was tasty, but the balance of noodles to ingredients was maybe a bit off. The hand break bread was one of the highlights of the meal!!

All in all a good experience, would like to go back during a busier time to experience the atmosphere of the restaurant as the decor is stunning, understated but still undoubtedly Asian inspired.

From the owner of The Red Chamber in Hyde Park comes this great little noodle place in Linden. The menu is simple and limited to a few tasty small plates and glorious bowls of hot soupy noodles. On my last visit I tried the fish small plate which was fresh and tasty and for main I had the chili beef noodles which were spicy and delicious and my boyfriend had the chashao pork noodles which had a sweet and tasty broth. The staff are really friendly and the service is great.

Wonderful Szechuan food in a lovely bright setting. The owner is fantastic and will come right over and help you order. I think sticking to the tapas is actually best - the chilli chicken, the beans (perfect), and the bread are amazing, though the noodles are good too!

PRON is the perfect mix between good food, friendly service and beautiful, colourful decor.
The owner/manager is always extremely friendly and close by to take your order. This is however not
the place for you if you are looking to only drink something. We once made that mistake and the waiter
was really confused as to why we would come to PRON with no intention of eating there. That said, the food
is absolutely worth it. Take time to look around you and take in all the decor elements - from the patterns to the cans that will keep the English customers puzzled.

Pron is such an experience. From the music to the chopsticks and the food. It really challenges the idea that most of us know as Chinese cuisine and in my opinion it is exactly this that sets it apart. I will also add that it is good value for money.
