Review Fournos Bakery Rosebank - Johannesburg

Love that they opened up the restaurant by taking down the wall. Place getting more natural light👌🏾 Breakfast always great with varied options. Only issue I have is that they strangely charge for hot water &lemon 😱😱😱

The food is just amazing together with the service. The best spot for breakfast in rosebank

Popped in for a birthday cake. Pleased. Also, Innocent is always an excellent host.

• Breakfast menu adapted to various tastes. • Various choice of generous pastries. • Personalized service for regular customers. • Good service in general. • Good value for money.

So tasty and for £3 it's a bargain. Obviously I'm comparing it to the UK prices. So not sure how it's like for locals

Nice bakery with wonderful and fresh breakfast options. The cheese griller sausages and the mustard chicken livers deserve special mention. They also have a large variety of breads, bakes and meats to try and takeaway. Service is polite and courteous.

One of my favourite brunch spots! The chocolate croissants are to die for!

I had the baked cheesecake a couple of years ago and since then became my indulgence whenever we visit in JHB. My husband had to go to JHB the past week and he brought back a freshly baked cheesecake. Its absolutely the best baked cheesecake ever. You deserve 10 stars but unfortunately the rating only allows for 5.

Fournos Rosebank consistently delights - great coffee, always good food and definitely my go-to-place for indulgent ice-cream treats. The combination of a sit-down restaurant (with good social distancing) and a busy bakery / deli has always worked and continues to be a strong attraction.

3.5 stars. I love Fournos. It's a great place to go and have a good breakfast or lunch. With yummy bakery goodies out on the displays to tease your tastebuds.

Bakery is good no doubt , but customised birthday cakes are more then worst. Please do not buy or order any customised birthday cakes as it will only make you unhappy on ur most beautiful day .

We decided to have coffee after church and this was the spot that caught my attention. My sister had been here before and she said good things about it. So we sat and had different things. I had a cappuccino and a chocolate mousse cake, tasted really good. Definitely a great spot to hang on a lazy Sunday afternoon🤗

I was craving croissants and went to Fournos. What a treat! Their portions are so generous and all the components of the salad were very fresh! Tasty burger and croissants. An overall good experience. I’ll definitely go back.
Dalton Lester
Amazing range of deserts at the bakery. Their breakfast menu is also great value for money. The portions are massive and all my breakfasts have been amazing so far. The chocolate croissants are my favorite to take home for a desert.

A friendly smile always greets us, be it early morning coffee stops or later in the day after a long exhausting cycle. Putting up with demands of ravenous sporty people is no easy task. Consistently good on all fronts from their illy coffee to my absolute fav, Petit Fours and many dozens of other colorful treats! The savory menu is varied and are respectable portions. Service is laid back but on point. The nearby site is under construction but this is improving daily and will be fantastic once the modernization is complete. Parking is unaffected and conveniently right outside their door.

Wonderful service, absolutely tasty food, and what a lovely day it was. Only the freshest ingredients used, and the bread OMG. Would recommend for sure.

Was delicious and such a warm feeling, both the food and the atmosphere!!! Me and my friend ordered pies from the freshly bakes on the stands, but had to go and have a look to see what they had, my suggestion would be to maybe print out a daily menu of the freshly baked good for customers who want something small, but still want to enjoy the vibe of a sit down breakfast or lunch. Other than that the service and food was top notch!!

I love the simplicity of this place. Great for those takeaways to the office. I love their juice bar. Croissants are heaven. Fab meeting spot.

Please update your trading hours.
I drove to the Rosebank outlet as it states this store opens at 6am and on arrival I was told ot only opens at 7am.

Superb service from Innocent and Accute. When they didn't have the item I ordered, they went out of their way to make something amazing, fresh and delicious. Will certainly be returning. Both men are an asset to the business!
Megan Thomas
Delicious fresh croissants and a coffee to go has never been so accessible! I'd highly recommend the custard filled croissant, or some fresh bread. There's also free parking for an hour - so easy to pop in and out.
Abel Mukwevho
Love the idea of getting a proper cooked meal from the buffet without having to wait for it to be prepared. Very convenient if it's lunch time and you only have 20minutes to get to the office.
Russel Roth
Possibly the best chocolate croissants available , crisp and full of chocolate , the pre-made foods are excellent and the breakfast very good.

I go here often and generally the service is good and the baked hoodies are delicious...what I was highly disappointed by is that they charged R22 for extra bacon on a chicken mayonnaise...that is almost the price of a packet of bacon? They don't have extras on the menu so you can't even check pricing...This is a Fournos why the need to rip customers off?

This is one of my favourite places to brunch. It was one of the first places I went to when I first arrived in Johannesburg last year. It has lovely sweet treats, fresh bread and savory pastries on display for sale. I love the open planned set up. The place is so well lit and warm. My friends and I are regulars here. The staff always greets us and welcomes us back and questions our whereabouts when we have been away for too long. I recently went with friends. The food was good, can't complain. We experienced a problem with people who were in the restaurant and decided to sit across the way from us. They were being very mean to us when we didn't even notice them. The manager came and without taking sides he apologized and gave us free croissants to apologize for what we had to deal with. He was very professional and open to listen to what both sides had to say. Above all, I loved the food and the managers tone when speaking to us. He spoke to us as paying adult customers and not trouble causing students. Love the customer care here. I don't even have to announce that I'll be back because they know I will be. I can't resist the the delicious scones that I usually order

Went for a work/business breakfast. The atmosphere was warm. The staff was very friendly. The food was good, reasonably priced and filling. The smell of fresh bread when I entered was just heartwarming.

Highly disappointed with my experience here. I came after a busy night shift and couldn't wait for a delicious hot breakfast on a rainy morning to sink my teeth into. I ordered a vegetarian Benedict with extra mushrooms. The service was prompt and the staff friendly but that's where the positives end. My hollandaise sauce was pasty and sour. I asked for it to be changed (I had ordered it on the side) and the second attempt was not much better. The roll was the worst part, very stale! How this is possible in a bakery is beyond me. I had asked for soft eggs but they were mostly raw. I had to leave most on my plate. The spinach and feta was tasty as were the grilled mushrooms but the rest of the meal left me hungry and sad.

Fournos usually sees me twice a week because I either pick up a bacon, egg & avo croissant for breakfast or build my own salad for lunch in the office. Their ready made sandwiches are also a good option. If I feel like something sweet I grab one of their pastries. If I'm feeling indulgent I'll grab three of their cheese & corn samoosas. If I want good bread or a ready cooked chicken to take home for dinner ... I grab it at Fournos.

Their food is consistently good but I find a bit too busy and noisy for long sit down lunch, although I meet suggest them for a quick coffee with clients (mid-morning or mid-afternoon) because the service is fast and friendly - and everybody can find them from the parking lot.

The majority of my colleagues in Rosebank and I usually buy a birthday coffee for the office from Fournos - and generally always been impressed.

Fournos have consistently offered consistency & quality for over ten years - doesn't get better than that!
Junior
One of the best cheesecakes that I've had in a minute. The baked goods are quite fresh here and I'm pretty sure they'll be seeing a lot more of me.
The Restaurant Phantom
Always a fantastic family meal experience for breakfast or lunch.

We have been coming here for a many years now and the latest revamped restaurant hasn't disappointed at all.

The service is always humble and attentive yet unobtrusive. The menu selection is amazing for a "bakery" and there is always something which is new or that you haven't tried yet.

I tried the chicken livers breakfast and considering myself a bit of a liver connoisseur I can state they were excellent and topped with a perfectly done (for me) poached egg!

The kids had the pancakes with beautiful fresh strawberries, bananas and honey and mom had the French toast which also went down a real treat with fresh berries and honey as well.

The coffee is always superb and a single cup is never enough although it packs a significant punch.

It is impossible to leave without a freshly baked bread with a superbly crispy crust and some goodies for the kids.

Definitely an excellent Neighbourhood eatery and is not as crazy busy as the dunkeld store which makes for a better sit down atmosphere.

Been coming here for years and will continue as long as they remain in business 👌🏻

Never actually sat down here for a meal -but their baked goods are pretty delicious ; especially their croissants. However, I had a bit of trouble trying to find someone who could advise me on any dairy free fare they had, as some of the staff were not sure what that meant and were unsure of the ingredients of their products.

Ordered a birthday cake 🎂from them when my person dropped me at the last minute! They Fournos was extremely helpful and created a delicious masterpiece 👌🏽 for my mum! On my way out from picking up the cake, I grabbed a few treats to munch on in the car 😍 best choice!! Fresh and full of flavor. Need to come back, sit down and have a meal👍🏽.

So whenever I pull through, I always just get a sandwich to take on the go. The service is always efficient, while the breads and ingredients are always fresh. Never really got anything else there but the other breads and pastries look brilliant. Very reccomended

I have to say, Fournos never disappoints with this dish that serves as a breakfast/brunch/lunch option for me. It's the Aloo Tiki Salad (little devilishly good potato and spinach balls) with salad, hummus, beetroot and lentils with basil pesto. I always ask for the extra haloumi addition as I don't do the Parmesan "shavings".

It's seriously delicious!

Finished work early and decided to go to Fournos for a quick lunch. My husband and I shared a chicken mayo croissant and a chicken prego roll. Food arrived within 10 minutes. The chicken mayo was great, however the chicken prego had no flavour and the chicken was slightly tough. Our waiter was friendly and attentive.
Vishal Mistry
Went to Fournos for lunch on Friday and ordered a Chicken Mayo Croissant, and a chicken prego to share. The croissant was good, but there was something lacking compared to other times I have eaten them. The Prego on the other hand didn't really taste like a prego, and lacked that classic prego flavour.

Fournos is great for a quick business lunch. The harvest table includes the protein meal of the day, a healthy salad bar and an antipasti corner. Food is reasonably priced and service is quick and efficient.
Arne Swanepoel
Popped in quickly for a take away snack. The shop was impeccably clean and hygienic. Even though they were busy packing up, it took seconds for someone to assist us. The lady ringing up our goods was so friendly that I regretted not buying more. The food was great!

After seeing all the good reviews we decided to stop here for breakfast. The portions are good but the taste, not so much. We ordered the French toast and Fournos Benedict with ham and mushroom. The French toast wasn't sweet at all, it was quite eggy. The eggs Benedict lacked taste. The only thing that saved this dish was the hollandaise sauce on top. Perhaps the bakery section is better than the restaurant.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a Bloggers Breakfast with Fournos Bakery and taken on a tour of their main store to see the day to day operations, until I walked past this display and I said “oh yes, ice-cream!!!” and someone whispered “no, it’s actually Gelati and Sorbet”. I’ve never been so embarrassed to look like a fool in front of an expert foodie.

I was left confused because it all looks the same, but I decided to do some research on the difference between Ice Cream, Gelati and Sorbet. I found out that the main difference is in the ingredients:

Sorbet is basically icy because it contains water, sugar and fruit.
Whereas ice cream/gelati is more creamy because it contains milk/cream, sugar and fruit.
I fell in love with sorbet on the day.

One of those days where you rush out without grabbing a brekkie - but come lunch time you just feel like that morning grub. That was me when I walked into Fournos Rosebank.

Just like the breakfast bandit I am - couldn't resist the heavenly smell of those freshly baked croissants but felt guilty as well - so decided on their Light Breakfast - which is supposed to be bacon, 2 beef sausages, egg, tomato and toast. When my order rocked up - it was a behemoth that could feed Hercules 😅. Downed that with some fine cappuccino that I had to ask a second on. Now that's what coffee should taste like...

Ambience = 4.vibrant business environment with great choice of beautiful food
Food = 5. Great variety of freshly prepared food - plus those heavenly artisanal breads....
Service = 4 my waitron Lindo - is cut for this industry. Courteous and always slyly pushing you for some more...

Overall - a comparative alternative choice to cafe culture around Rosebank - when you just want to chill down a bit whilst maintaining the ante.

Finally on a Sunday morning (Aug 2), decided to have breakfast at Fournos. Had a heard a lot about the bakery. We reached at around 9.45 am and were able to get a table. Service seemed a bit slow as the server kind of disappeared after making us sit at the table. However, the supervisor (it seemed) appeared to take our order. My wife and I ordered for the 'Omelettes' - a 3 egg omelette with mozzarella served with hand cut chips and toast. We added mushrooms as additional. They serve 2 slices of toast and must say, the toast were nice and crisp and perfectly toasted. The omelette was well done as we had wanted. However, the cheese was an overkill. I would have preferred the omelette without the cheese. Later on, while talking to our server, realised that we could have asked for the omelette without the cheese. We also had freshly squeezed citrus juice. Since it was freshly squeezed, it was a bit bitter. For my little daughter, they didn't charge for the doughnut. At the time of leaving, he even gave a ginger biscuit to my daughter. So, though the service was a bit slow, it was superb. I will definetly go back again.

Lovely food, too bad one has to pay about R34 for some French toast if you don't want ordinary toast with your breakfast. Fournos is one of those places that never get old. They make one of the best chai lattes too.

Ideal for a quick meal, sandwich bar allows you to build one from scratch. All looks very fresh and tastes good. American style bagel and cream cheese is a must. A bit pricey but for delicious, fresh food; its worth it.

You can't go wrong with Fournos, I mean who doesn't like a freshly baked croissant for breakfast, can you think of anything better? Something for everyone, good service, and a great place to go for breakfast after some morning exercise. Pity it looks onto the parking lot though ...

Yummy! Fresh bakery. Fresh salad. Great service. Really great wholesome food! Try not to get tempted on their sweets. They also offer little sweet pastries. Just had a good workout so I had to pass! Maybe in a couple of days during my cheat day! 😜

Fournos is my go-to for sweet treats anytime I need to do some last-minute catering. Their cheesecakes are pretty reliable, their baklava has yet to let me down, and their artisanal breads are a must-have for any picnic. Their service is pretty good and they've got loads of seating to cater for the Sunday brunch rush.
Hassan Cassim
Great food. Vegetarian breakfast bagel was outstanding. A little noisy but the good food and good service compensates for that inconvenience
Danielle Jaffit
Most revolting experience getting a used half chewed lemon served together with plate of toast. This really is unacceptable and the sign of a restaurant cutting corners

I've been going to this Fournos for baked treats and goodies since I was a child. Everyone's always so helpful and friendly. They greet us by name and are so so welcoming. All the baked goods like the croissants, muffins, petit fours, etc are delicious and I also tried out the sandwich bar recently. You can choose any bread from their bakery and then a variety of fresh toppings - it was amazing and so tasty. I also really enjoy the breakfasts here - great portions and good coffee.

My boyfriend was fortunate to have the morning off from work so we decided to have a little breakfast date at Fournos since we are both avid lovers of the franchise. Honestly, it was as amazing as we had expected! In fact, it was better.

We started our breakfast date with two coffee freezos- which were perfect for this summery heat and perfect for all coffee addicts out there.

As for our actual breakfasts, we couldn't choose what we wanted since everything sounded incredible. I opted for a grilled halloumi and vegetable sandwich with wholewheat bread. It was accompanied by some potato wedges and some salad. My boyfriend ordered a bagel with some scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato and cheese.

Honestly, both meals were amazing and the quality of the food was incredible.

The only slight complaint I had is that the plate where my food on was somewhat tiny and it made it impossible to cut the food without something nearly falling off the plate. But that's not all that serious :)

The ambience is incredible and the staff are friendly.

This is by far my favorite branch of the franchise.

Another wonderful benefit is that they are really well priced considering the quality and quantity. And being vegetarian, I am so thankful that there is more than one option for me to eat! :D #TasteJoburg

This is one of our favourite breakfast spots in Jozi. Their service is great and the food delicious. They have a massive veriety on the menu and you can order anything off it; you won't be disappointed

13/09/2016: visited Fournos today for a sweet treat...simply love these sweet pretzels...with a jam, icing, almonds...delectable!

Got some treats delivered to the office...the quality of their baked goods is amazing!

How good is this Fournos? I luv it. I used to go there at 7am to get the chocolate croissants fresh out of the oven...one of my favourite things.
Now I like their breakfasts...wide variety and always made to perfection! I also like the ice cream section they have in summer.
Epicurean Republic
A well priced restaurant / bakery with great service and decent food. I'm a big fan of their croissants and wraps. If you pitch up just before they close on a Sunday you should be able to take get 12 croissants for the price of 6.

I've always ever bought bread from here, but decided to enjoy a lunch here with a dear friend.
It was really good, enjoyed the prego wrap, really enjoyed the feta. Hmm Yum

Will definitely be back, maybe for breakfast this time :)

Fournos Bakery in Rosebank remains a firm favourite of mine. The food is fresh, service a bit slow, variety of patrons and I never leave without buying something freshly heavenly to take home. It adds up quickly price wise however, as the baked goodies are extensive and delicious.

Great food. Chilled vibes. Croissaint freshas ever. Loving the omellete with avocado and bacon. Lemons looks dry in my water though. Awesome still!
Alexis Assimacopoulos
Yet another franchise which lost its soul when it sold out to the "man" (or in this case RMB). This is definitely the best Fournos of the bunch, but still a far cry from its former glory. Nice take away bakery but not as good as it once was.
Christine M
Whilst not as big as it's Dubkeld counter part, this Fournos is my favourite for breakfast. It is a lovely sunny spot, very well priced and has great service. I have been for breakfast on multiple occasions and have never been disappointed. I would definitely recommend it.
Michelle
This is Always a good breakfast or lunch spot. The food is fresh and delicious. The baked goods are very tempting and the service is efficient and friendly. Can't complain and will go back. Order your cappuccinos in a takeaway cup- you get a bigger serving for the same price!
Martijn Vreugde
Great coffee and vibe. Is packed in the mornings from the various professionals from the surrounding office blocks picking up their morning fix. Great for meeting people. Food is also good and reasonably priced for the fresh quality. The tables inside are a bit to close to each other though and it can be a bit noisy.
Bongi Mtobi
Very dissapointed by the staff who answer the phone. No phone etiquette whatsoever. Prudence and Thembie need to improve on how they speak to their customers. If you no longer offer a certain service, say it politely and make the customer understand. Extremely Bad
Monique Van Tonder
Had a coffee freezo and veggie juice, the green one. Great place with a nice toasty atmosphere! The bakery area is fully stocked with fresh bites, service was quick and the drinks were good. Caught a glimpse of food orders passing by - the hamburger smelt divine and looked like a decent portion! We'll definitely be back to try their food. Bit pricey though, R30 for a freezo in comparison to places like Mugg n Bean at R25 but the coffee flavour was great and not too sweet. Worth a visit!
Dee Delekisa-Koko
We visited Fournos Bakery Rosebank for Sunday brunch and I must say, it was quite a delightful experience! There's a wide variety of menu options and their Beef Prego Roll is delicious. Their portions are huge and I love that most meals come with a yummy salad - not a random lettuce and tomato garnish! The staff and owner were friendly and helpful. An overall great experience!

This is a great option when you are looking for a quick and easy breakfast or coffee. I go to Fournos regularly for breakfast and lunch. The food is excellent. You can order anything from the bakery as well and even watch them baking. You are always assured that it is fresh. My favourite from this bakery is the bacon quiche. I also love the chocolate croissants. Excellent value for money!
