Review Craft Restaurant - Johannesburg

Laura Vizule
Amazing food - looked and tasted really great. Price wise a bit towards the upper end, but the quality, taste, service and overall atmosphere most definitely makes up for it. They have quite a few gluten-free options, including pastas and burgers. We really loved that they put such emphasis on conscious and healthy eating. Also, their dessert shakes are a MUST! I'd suggest sharing one, though, as they're enormous!

Met up with a friend here at Craft for breakfast at around 08h45 after a morning run through the area. What a delightful place, warm atmosphere and welcoming staff. Fortune was our waiter for the morning, and what a pleasant and helpful guy. We both had the scrambled eggs on avo with halloumi. It was well presented and very tasty. Super fresh tastes on the pallet, and well sized portions. They also do great coffee. There is an array of options and food choices on the menu and the place is well patronized. The manageress checked up on us regularly too. We were so comfortable that when the lunch patrons were arriving at around 12h00 we thought we should vacate our seats !!😂 Well worth a visit, I rate this place a 7.5 / 10

Craft has a well crafted menu of on trend food. My problem with on trend food is the sameness of it all. Despite its #sameness and #lack of #originality, they produced a good #prawn #chowder. It would've been nice if the dish had some acid and a little kick and texture too, but despite this, it was comforting on a cold day. I ordered some toast on the side, it should be standard with this dish. The fish cakes were OK, but over powered by the accompanying vegetables. With fish being such a subtle flavour, it pretty much ruined the dish. I loved the #cheesecake, the sweet, floral #Turkish #Delight perfectly balanced the #creamy, dense tang of the cheesecake. The crust added lovely texture to the slice. If you're looking for a #trendy spot, with average food and great service, #Craft is your place to head to.

The breakfast menu is interesting, with a choice of unusual meals offered, a change from the traditional bacon and eggs that we can make at home. The service is really good, a special thank you to Madonna who served us on Sunday morning, very professional waitress extremely pleasant and helpful.

I can't count how many times I've had good meals at Craft. They are always reinventing their menu and keeping it fresh. I celebrated my birthday here in the past. The cake selection is amazing, including salted caramel cheesecake and oreo cheesecake. The freakshakes are insane.

A brunch heaven nestled in the hip and happening 4th Street, Parkhurst. Craft brings a unique down to earth ambiance that pays homage to it's shop till you drop boutique surroundings with its open seating plan that's private without being secluded. Excellent menu options with mostly light but filling meals at reasonable prices. Accompanied by a variety of healthy, unique tea blends and juices - worth a taste.

I couldn't find much fault with Craft. It was a nice cozy environment with very decent food. The burger was cooked nicely but didn't have too much taste to the patty itself. The sweet potato chips were good. Overall, a worthwhile experience and I would go there again.

Their milkshakes are out of this world, I actually was filled. Their Mac and cheese could do better. Generally, the atmosphere is beautiful, I went there at night, it's a safe environment, helpful waiters.

Going to CRAFT is always an experience and a half! Food never disappoints, and the menu options are different. It has a lovely cafe bespoke cafe vibe, and the service is fantastic.

Friendly staff and great food. I had a homemade pita with chicken & salad and fried onion. The onion was too oily but the pita was great. I liked their espresso too! Friendly staff although the service was slow.

An amazing breakfast restaurant with friendly staff who are very attentive and prompt to deliver your orders. I enjoyed my waffles, eggs, bacon and beans breakfast. They also got Free Wifi for guests ... Will sure visit again 😊

After more than a 15-hour flight from ATL to JNB it's time to walk to the nearby neighborhood, where we find a vibrant restaurant with a huge opening to the sidewalk. It's Craft, at 33 4th Avenue, Parkhurst, Johannesburg 2193. We feel drawn in by the friendly, comfortable atmosphere. It's immediately clear to both of us that this was a very good find. The automotive metaphor for a complete success is "firing on all cylinders". Craft is firing on all cylinders. From the table density to the decor, from the open pizza oven to the dense but approachable spacing of the tables, it's clear the locals are feeling cared for by the friendly hospitality and wide menu. Besides the usual veg, chicken, seafood, and beef, there's marrow, lamb, and even ostrich on the menu. Seven varieties of sharing plates. Even a good selection of desserts. We were so tired and jet-lagged that my recollection as to what we ordered is fuzzy, but I suspect it was the lamb burger for me and the salmon for her. Several coffees seem to have been inevitable. What I do remember, unmistakably, is how satisfied I was, and what a great conversation we had with the owner about all topics ranging from the choice of restaurant name to the choices and challenges of delivering such quality and variety in a small kitchen. (This Craft has no relation to Chef Tom Colicchio, although they'd been made aware of its existence.) The staff were far past pleasant, to the point of being welcoming in a "family you've not seen in a while" sort of way. My grasp on the Rand was a bit shaky but I'm pretty sure that we were pleased with the value-fo-money proposition. I'm looking forward to returning to South Africa, and perhaps the first way I'll celebrate is returning to Craft.

The food here is absolutely delicious, and they cater for all types of eaters. The decor is well-done, and the food is also presented with thought & character. Overall, craft gives you a great experience. The service is also great, and there are small little quirks like the signs in the bathrooms.

Made the mistake of arriving during the lunchtime rush (avoid during peak times if you are in a rush). Had to flag down a waiter but once we had his attention, best service turned the experience right around! The milkshakes are slightly expensive but very much worth it. The Oreo milkshake was delicious and refreshing. Highly recommend the lamb burger and pulled pork burger.

Amazing food, insane range of cocktails, crafty ambiance, and impeccable service. We uber R350 each way to get here, and don't regret a cent. New update: still as good as ever. Cocktails just amazing too.

What a stunning, modern rustic place, absolute awesome ambiance, stunning modern menu with to die for cocktails they focus on craft gin cocktails with flavour combinations that tantalise the soul and mind very well thought out menu and the bathroom is a calming walk through a water feature, staff is helpful and understanding....a place definitely to visit ....food is excellent...well done Craft...!!!!!

Rant alert... So this morning I thought I'd slip out one block down to Craft for a quick breakfast. A waiter takes me to a seat I picked and hands me 2 horribly worn out impractically assembled (and probably disgustingly filthy) menus. Without a word he walks away... I scan through the drinks menu at leisure. Waiter who brought me to my seat doesn't even look in my direction again... I eventually manage to flag him down only for him to tell me he's not my waiter, pointing to a waiter who was busy attending to a couple that walked in 5 minutes after me. He eventually graces me with his presence as if I had just sat down. Agitation catalist engages... I decided on the French toast and asked him if the bacon was doused in syrup because I don't like that. He tells me no, the bacon is served separately. I say that's fine then - I'll have the French toast... I finish my cup of Java. The food arrives and he immediately walks away. This is where my moermeter starts rev'ing... All you get for R85 is 3x medium sized bacon rashers and 2x thick cut slices of normal off-the-shelf white loaf French toast. That's all!! For 85 bucks!!!! Then I notice the lack of maple syrup... I flag down the waiter who is walking around the shop floor chewing on mouthful of whatever it is. I point out the lack of maple syrup. He starts talking, spitting whatever he is eating all over my table (if it hit my food, no one knows) - moermeter now in the red... I receive the syrup. While consuming my overpriced underwhelming breakfast I contemplate the BS of serving food on a horrible piece of 2x4 in stead of a plate, with only a printed piece of wax paper as barrier between your food and this horrible piece of wood, paid the bill and walked out for the very last time. Craft is but one of the MANY hyped-up, overpriced, underwhelming, BS establishments in our awesome city, and I'm sure there are more people than just me who only get caught once... Mediocrity dressed up in hype has to go.

I normally avoid craft as i find much of their food blunt even if fancy to look at... Im not a saltloving person but Craft is the only place where I salt a pizza. And according to management its their style, fine I avoid as its not mine. But today, new years day, it was far below any standard We order 3 cups of coffee in their glasscups, it shouldn't be able to go wrong? The coffee looked like tea and the cups was dirty Calling the waiter he said it was craft normal coffee and the cups was just dirty on the outside... We didn't even cared to call management as if that waiter even got thru the door with that attitude its no hope for management! What you run Craft? A low class shabeen? Maybe 4th isnt the right place for you then...

Craft never disappoints! Incredible food, no matter what I try (this time: Salmon rosti, scotch egg with mince and breakfast pizza for kids - all fabulous). And service is always above and beyond. Today, my son knocked over his entire milkshake onto the pavement and not an annoyed eyebrow in sight, only too accommodating helping with the mess and Ntombi brought a replacement in a takeaway cup to boot.

My wife got food poisoning from your pulled pork burger. I will be sure to inform all my friends to never go near your over priced pub menu and off food. I feel ashamed spending my money at your pigsty posing as a restaurant. Don't eat the pulled pork burger people, unless you want your body to purge out of every orifice and lose your soul to over priced crafted beer and leather aprons. Peace out !

Love this place. Cocktails are big, strong and delicious. The melted cheese pot is to die for. Service was great Super impressed!

Had the worst experience at Craft Parkhurst on Thursday evening (21st June). The evening began with a waitress who handed my boyfriend one food menu and then promptly left. Eventually we waived her over and I asked for the wine menu to which she replied that it was not part of Craft to provide a wine menu , rather you are required to go and pick a bottle from a rack that is situated directly next to another couple trying to have dinner. After awkwardly standing next to the couple trying to peer over them and their meals to see the wines I went back to my table and requested the House wine. The waitress was unsure if they even provided a house wine and left, coming back a long time later with an unidentified glass of red. Deciding to go onto mains my boyfriend and I both ordered the same dish; "Pork Fillet in a Jacket". My boyfriend ordered mash as a side and I root veg. His came with potato wedges instead and my vegetables were undercooked - crunchy all the way through. The pork was horrendously dry with the cheese congeled in a cold lump on top of it. Niether of us could finish it. Eventually the third waiter we had had for the evening cleared the unfinished mains asking us how it was. Upon filling him in the manager was called over. She listened to everything and upon hearing that the pork was dry replied "yea unfortunately the pork is often dry, that's the thing with pork , its not like fillet you know." Before airily saying "let me see what I can do". Thirty minutes passed with nothing and eventually we paid the bill that came to close on R600- desperate to go and find something to eat. When the payment went through the manager rushed over and said "oh I didn't intend for you to pay for that." She then took down our names, numbers and email address promising that she would phone the next day to properly sort out the situation and to offer us a meal on the house. That was last week Thursday- absolutely no effort has been made to contact us. Clearly that is how they value their buisness.

There seems to be small mistakes creeping in that i hadn't noticed before. Yesterday we had two mistakes hit our table. Unusual for a restaurant of thos stature and price range. Still yum food and staff are helpful and friendly, but not quite as strong as it was initially. Still got love for you!

Craft is a cozy restaurant on a winter evening. We tried their craft ciders which were lovely. Unfortunately our main course was a total let down. My pork fillet in a jacket was burnt and tasteless R160. My friend had the Kingklip which was also nothing spectacular R170. Desserts looked amazing but also ridiculously priced and after unsatisfactory main courses I was not going to pay R80+ for dessert that might be another let down.

Take your own tomatoe sauce........ asked for tomatoe sauce and the waiter returned saying the kitchen says the customer isn't allowed tomatoe sauce . WTF ??? An appologetic manageress eventually brought tomatoe sauce (burger cold by this stage) but I didn't stay for coffe just in case the kitchen said I couldn't have sugar.
Daniel Anthony Oosthuyse
Changing my review after a great meal and the manager did his best to resolve my previous issue.

If you are a vegetarian or if you like chickpeas you must try the chickpea and avocado burger. It was so darn good!!!! Great vibe and atmosphere.
Gillian Weedman De Klerk
Excellent meal “bunless burger”, waiters extremely pleasant and helpful! Staff brought a delicious milkshake as a surprise for one of our party whose 90th birthday it was and sang “Happy Birthday” beautifully! “ Birthday boy” said it was the best birthday ever. Thank you!🥤We’ll be back😊

Let me get the bad out the way: how on earth you’ve allowed your menus to reach the torn, sticky-taped, dog-eared manly state that they’re in, is actually inexcusable. They look so gross it almost ruined my appetite. I say this with love. Really guys... not lekker, in any town any place any time for an establishment of your caliber. This review is dedicated not only to your food, which is just sumptuous, but also to Joe, the waitron who attended me. Your reputation is completely safe in his hands. It certainly was the case for me. Dutiful, responsive, immensely respectful with a such a gentle, kind and professional, unassuming ATTENTIVE touch! Thanks Joe! You made my evening.

Love Craft. Food is interesting and service is friendly. Always busy and vibey there. The dog friendliness of the place is great. Even serve them water ďż˝

Terrible! first restaurant I have even been to that my girlfriend found 5 scales in her deep fried Hake and there service was well below par.

Craft is a laid back restaurant with a friendly feel. It seems quite popular and was really full. Despite this, we were served within a fair amount of time. I think what stood out the most for us was the truly extensive menu. It continued for ages! There's truly something for everyone! Their milkshakes are also very Instagram worthy! The food was presented rather decently but it lacked flavour, and I think that's why we never went back. With all the other options just next door, Caft needs to step up the flavour.

Ordered a medium rare burger, what I got was a rare burgher still frozen on the inside, the chicken drum sticks were tasteless and dry. Worst meal. Last time we going there. Would not recommend this place.

There are only a very few restaurants in Johannesburg I'd give a full five too.  Craft is one.  Whatever they make, they make well.  Excellent burgers, excellent salads, excellent milkshakes, some of them very elaborate, excellent deserts, excellent starters.  All around everything excellent and not bad prices considering the sizable portions you get.  Very attentive service, very well versed in the menu.  Seating is very comfortable.   Great atmosphere and you can go there as smart or as casual as you like (which is how restaurants should be.  It never made sense to me to pay arm and leg and be told you have to dress up.).  Great place to go for a birthday celebration or for a casual night out.  Staff is more than happy to make you happy.  All around great place!

Delicious food. Lots of vegetarian options. Lovely and pleasant atmosphere and vibe. Friendly and professional staff. Will definitely be revisiting.

My boyfriend and I had twwo different pizzas. A frozen pizza could have easily beaten either of them without even trying. Would not go back there to eat. I did see people order amazing looking milkshakes. I would possibly go try one of those in the future.
Sesh
Craft is still all about the milkshakes since Roxannes's has closed was hoping they add on the alcohol versions but not, nevertheless good freakshakes.<br/><br/>We opted for the paella and chorizo prawn chowder, both delicious though a bit salty so had to be sent back to adjust. Service was slow for a friday night seemed to have only 3 waiters and everyone trying to get their attention. Finished off with a oreo waffle, dough was quite blonde and loaded with cream and ice cream, a bit average on taste.
Kgothatso
Had the chicken curry, which was great but didn't agree with my stomach. Anyway, the ambience is great, the portions are generous. My dates had the ribs and the other had a seafood platter. The dessert was amazing, the Oreo cheesecake

We had dinner on a Wednesday night. It was quiet and the waiters were all apprentices and so our drinks were not served properly, they took a long time and the service was awkward. The food was great but there didn’t seem to be anyone in charge of the service.

Sunday morning breakfast stop over at craft proved to be exactly what we needed... lattes were perfect and the dispenser on the table with xylitol was a pleasant surprise... the chef was more than accommodating in preparing me a waffle and poached egg as nothing on the menu tickled my fancy... I did find that the waffle was a tad sweet and thought I should have selected their flat bread option... my date had the full breakfast and all was perfectly prepared... amazing company completed a stunning meal

Went there for tea & cake after dinner this week.. needless to say Craft is overpriced and overrated (as in R90 for a slice of cake!!!) Nothing grand if im to be honest..
Hansley Jugar
Hai. So Craft was a bit of a disappointment. Having heard of their kickass burgers I obviously went for one, the basic craft burger. The patty was dry and basically 60% salt, the only positive were the fries.

So I've been wanting to try craft for a while now. They are the only winners that I haven't tried. And I thought we should start 2019 off with the 2017 winner for best burger.<br/><br/>The atmosphere and vibe in craft is really homely and relaxed. Everyone seems happy and chilled. You will never feel under or over dressed. You will never feel left out of judged. And for that alone this is an amazing spot. Well unless I'm there , I judge everyone<br/><br/>So we order a pulled pork burger and a sriracha fillet pizza. With high expectations the wait begins. Their gin cocktails are amazing and they have a range of beer for us that prefer it.<br/><br/>The food arrives and it looks good but I'm a little underwhelmed. The pizza looks like they put one small slice of steak on each slice of pizza and then just drenched it in yogurt. The base itself was nice but you hardly taste any sriracha fillet. It might as well be called the yogurt pizza because it's all you really taste. It wasn't terrible. I just expected more.<br/><br/>The burger was good. They don't ask how you prefer your burger and thus mine was a little overcooked but still tasty. One criticism I have is the pulled pork. I expect a soft melt in your melt pork and what I got was tough and hard shredded pork. So everytime i bite into the burger i pull all the pork out instead of just getting a nice bite of it. Maybe that's why it's called the pulled pork. But anyway.<br/><br/>Venue is great , Service is good, food is okay<br/><br/>All in all it was a bit of a let down but maybe my expectations were set to high.

Decided to stop and have a "last vacation" lunch and I was craving a decent burger. We've been to Craft in the past, and while the service is generally hit and miss, the food and drink has always been great. <br/><br/>We arrived at 13h11 and immediately ordered drinks which arrived promptly (great to see that Craft has ditched plastic straws). We ordered food as the drinks arrived - I would guess between 13h15 and 13h20.  The restaurant was busy, but nowhere near full (I would guess about 50% - 60%). We ordered a pulled pork burger and the hake goujonnes.<br/><br/>Firstly the food arrived at around 14h00 (that's 40 - 45 minutes) which given the restaurant wasn't particularly busy is not acceptable in my opinion. We were about to question our waiter on where the food was, when it arrived. I joked and said, "the kitchen is slow today" to which I received a shrug.<br/><br/>The pulled pork burger was superb; very tasty and the potato wedges the right level of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.<br/><br/>The hake unfortunately was a disaster. I quietly asked for the manager and very calmly and quietly asked him if it was fresh to which he confirmed that this was one of their best sellers on the menu and that the goujonnes are frozen. They were rubbery and tasteless (almost as if they had been microwaved). The manager agreed that it looked like the hake had been cooked at the wrong temperature.  He kindly offered to remake the meal himself, or substitute from the menu. We asked for a replacement being nachos as we had seen another table's order go by (with what looked like, and we assumed, was a portion of yummy-looking nachos). The manager left our table at this point saying he would remove the hake from the bill. I continued with the burger while we waited for the nachos to make an appearance; which it never did.<br/><br/>At around 14h30 - and now pretty upset and grumpy - we requested our bill from our waiter as the nachos had still not arrived and we needed to leave. On settling the bill I again spoke to the manager and said to him that we needed to leave and that the nachos had not arrived. It was ONLY AT THIS POINT that he informed me that Craft does not serve nachos. As we do not frequent Craft often and were not given a menu to look at we went with what we had seen. At no point did our waiter, or the manager, clearly state that nachos were not on the menu and therfore we had been mistaken. The manager then informed me that he had offered us a substitute and that we had declined this. I am struggling to understand this attitude as we clearly did indicate we wanted a second meal; despite being mistaken for whatever the meal that went past us was.<br/><br/>Overall then we (as a couple) spent 90 mins for 2 drinks and 1 meal... disappointing to say the least... I'm afraid that we will not be back. I do feel that the manager could have handled the situation in a very different way in order to save a customer.
Nikita Smith
The food was absolutely horrid, all the meat was overcooked and too dry to even eat... My pasta was soaked in oil and the manager said that Mac and cheese is oily bear in mind I did not order max and cheese.. Absolutely disgusting

Craft has been on my to visit list for a while - a sociable, place to visit if you're looking for "craft food"<br/>. It's very popular, so make a reservation before you go.<br/><br/>Really enjoyed the option of dining on the sidewalk at one of the tables; not only was it ideal given the warm weather but it also helped with the noise levels. The restaurant has a nice feel to it and the decor has unique touches.<br/><br/>Food generally lacked some flavour and service was average.

Best food experience in Johannesburg!!! Amazed by the Wagu beef burgers! Pricing is fair and the staff are incredibly friendly! A must if you love food! Can’t wait to see them expand!!!

Cool place in the heart of Parkhurst.. really good food and great ambience, like their selection of stoking different brands and not just the usual stuff!

Today we came here for birthday celebrations, at first glance the place looks great, however we were a bit disappointed with the food, it was very average and also quite oily. The prices are too steep for the quality of food. <br/><br/>That being said, it’s a great atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon and our waiter (Sylvia) was lovely.

I've heard about this restaurant several times and I was not disappointed when I finally got to try it! The food was good, the ambience was great. Although the place is a bit cramped, the open plan of the restaurant that extends to the outside made it a bit better. Price a bit on the high end though but so many trendy food on the menu, they were delicious and definitely insta-worthy!

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! I came here with my family and it was an absolutely amazing meal. The management was friends and we landed up coming back the very next day.

I could say alot about craft, I have been there a couple of times and I love it. It's one of my favourite restaurant, I mean the food is amazing. I could go on and on about the different meals I have tried. Their service is excellent.

Very trendy and busy when we went but we managed to get a table outside. The menu is extensive but on the pricey side. We decided to order a milkshake which was huge! 3 people shared this one milkshake and we were all stuffed

Really good food, I haven’t been disappointed by this place yet! In my opinion they have one of the best cheesecakes and milkshakes in joburg. Really nice location too.

Amazing beers<br/>Will definitely recommend this place for a few drinks and a lazy afternoon snack.<br/>Staff very friendly and great vibe<br/><br/>A bit on the pricy side

I had so much fun with my friends this day. The food is amazing so amazing! Definitely not overhyped. We came on a Sunday and it was quite full so go early or during the week. The waffle and chicken was so yummy, I had Mac and cheese with pulled pork and it was nothing short of perfects. I’m not a fan of burgers but this burger was good. And the Long Island ice tea got me tipsy real quick! The three gins are cute to look at

Expensive, there are better places to go for more value... always full and viby. Friendly waiters. Basic cocktails. Food was okay, nothing great

Stopped by for drinks and dessert. There were 6 of us at the table but we were handed one menu to share. The service was non-existent as we constantly had to look for our waiter. The waiting time for drinks was also unacceptable.

I could have easily given it a 5/5. Situated in Parkhurst, a very beautiful area and a relaxing atmosphere and surroundings, much like 44 Stanley(my favourite place in joburg) . I came here for my birthday on a lovely sunny afternoon and it was the first time. It's my kind of place so I definitely felt very comfortable and eager to try the food. Staff is friendly, and the restaurant has an open plan. The menu had a great range of food so I decided to have the waffles and fried chicken. Before that though, I had a large milkshake, so I don't know if this was the reason why I didn't finish my meal, but I had higher expectations to be honest. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, it was nice, but maybe it's because I had a different thought in my head, afterall, it was the first time I had waffles with fried chicken. I know very well that this place serves up good quality food and I wouldn't hesitate coming back. I recommend this place to any foodie out there that's looking for a good meal in a picturesque setting.

Booked a table for 12 for my daughters birthday at 6.30pm on Saturday. My wife, her sister and I were told we couldn’t book a separate table for 3 because they don’t take 2 bookings in one day??? We must therefore wait for a table. And so we did, despite there being another table that had been there since 12pm. Surely the lunch guests get told to maybe move to the bar to make way for dinner guests?? We sat outside in the freezing cold for 2 hrs before eventually finding ourselves a table inside!! To top it all we waited for over an hour for our dinner!!! I spent over R3,000 and got treated like scum!! Not even a complimentary drink or something to say sorry!! The manager didn’t even say goodbye, nothing!! I will NEVER go back. The attitude seemed to be “we are so busy we don’t really need your business ever again”. Karma is real.

My girlfriend and I came to craft this past Saturday and unfortunately, we did not have a very good experience. we got there and were seated quite quickly which I was very happy about. but unfortunately, that was all the good experience that we had. our waitress was hardly every available for us when we wanted to call her, and when she was available she was to busy chatting with other waitresses for us to be able to get her attention.<br/><br/>Our reason for coming to craft was because we specifically wanted to try your new milkybar oreo cheesecake that had been advertised. We had even asked the waitress to keep a slice aside for us as we were sure it was going to be in high demand. She said she would. we had seen other people receiving this dessert as well and we were so excited to try it because it looked as advertised. When we got our piece though we were informed that there was no more milkybar sauce to go over it and to top it all off our cheesecake was burnt. it was not very enjoyable at all.<br/><br/>I feel that with the prices that are being paid at this restaurant the quality should be held to a higher standard. We were very disappointed with our meal and overall experience I'm afraid. it is a pity because our past experiences have been quite pleasant.

I used to love Craft but after the way I was treated today, I'm unlikely to come back. The restaurant was so full the waiter put me in the corner by the bar next to a table of screaming children with broken, dirty menus and never came back. I tried to wave down a number of waiters and they looked me in the eye and ignored me. After flagging down a waitress who was doing nothing, she took her sweet time to come to me, I left.<br/><br/>I drove 20 minutes especially for the food and was treated like they were doing me a favour.

I often pop into Craft for some fab comfort food 🤭 I’m celiac, which means I can’t eat anything that contains gluten! They now have introduced Gluten Free Pasta Dishes! So... today for lunch I decided to try the Gluten Free pasta with chicken and exotic mushrooms in cream - I can honestly say this is definitely one of the best Gluten Free pasta dishes I’ve ever had! Too delicious and perfect comfort eat!

How could you not love Craft? Great pizzas, great craft beers and craft teas and most of all just sitting there and people watching whilst you enjoy your meal.

Shepherd was a fantastic waiter! Couldn’t have asked for better recommendations. He even understood that we wanted to keep the cheese from our hot cheese pot. Loved that you could select wine bottles off a rack and the atmosphere was buzzing. The cheese from the cheese hot pot was delicious, with a generous portion of dipping bread. The pulled pork burger was massive and juicy ( the person eating this would recommend if you eat pork). The salads are so beautiful here, actually all the presentation is beautiful! You get your money’s worth with these portions. A great lunchtime spot and possibly a bit of a jol in the evenings with their bar area.

One of my favourite places in Parkhurst... This year I have been about 4 times and never disappointed with any of the meals I chose from menu..oh and their gin cocktails are out of this world.. Best I've tasted so far

A cool joint in Parkhurst but the food menu didn’t quite hit the spot for me. The coffee wasn’t great to be honest. I would recommend this place for those who are craving something cheesy or looking for American style cuisine. Not much for vegetarians.

I was so excited to come here coz well the food pictures were amazing. Until I went, the ambience is great but the food is just okay. I dont like okay food

I went for a date night on a busy Saturday night. We had no problem waiting for a table at the bar as we were told we would be placed on the waiting list. At the bar we were not even given a menu until we eventually got a waiters attention. After waiting a long time for our drinks we noticed that people who clearly arrived after us were seated before us. When we were eventually seated the service improved as our waiter was friendly. but the hostess was extremely rude when we asked her about our table and the waiting list. <br/><br/>The food was good, we had burgers. <br/><br/>They need to improve their managerial skills and service. <br/><br/>Wouldn’t go back in a hurry!

Craft is exceptional. I found out about it through a friend, and I've been going back since 2015. The food is outstanding, and the service is even better, such a friendly clientele. Craft used to be number 1 on my list for my top 3 favorite restaurants - it now covers the number one, two and three spot. If money was no object, I'd happily spend every weekend here. Fantastic.

Just love this place. Great atmosphere, pasta and pizza is amazing. Their milkshake is to die for. We shared the freak waffles 😍, it was AMAZING. Great selection of food and drinks.
Lani Smith
Absolutely amazing! Must try the creative milkshakes and my favourite the chicken and waffles. Great service and friendly staff..............
Judith Simon
Great service from the time I called to the time we finished our meal. The meals were carefully prepared and delicious. It is the second birthday that we have celebrated there and we will be back.

I finally made it to Craft for dinner... What was I thinking, taking so long!? The usual "sundowner drinks and snack crowd" had started to clear - and some of the most amazing food came out the kitchen. We doubled down of a variety of honey & sesame seed grilled Salmon on avo mash and a warm Mediterranean salad (all excellent), but there's some serious food-envy on the pizza's, burgers ad fillet that came past... We'll be back - there's a gastronomic adventure ahead...

Really nice restaurant to visit.<br/><br/>The owner was really friendly and helpful from the moment we got there.<br/><br/>On their menu they have huge milkshakes that looks out of this world!<br/><br/>Meal preparation/kitchen is extremely slow, waited really long for basic food that we ordered.
Janine
Great food pairings, filled with lots of exciting flavours. Really enjoyed the innovative and original menus, particularly with the drinks. Definitely a fun, festive vibe and somewhere fun to go with friends on a day off.

I went for dinner last night with some friends. This was not my first time there. The restaurant was quite packed and resulted in the service being very slow, however once we managed to get a waitress she was very friendly and kind. The menu caters for everyone as well as their drinks and dessert menu being super exciting and delicious. Craft makes one of my favourite hot chocolates in Joburg!! All food served was of good quality with a unique homemade touch.<br/>I will definitely be back again on a quieter night.

Okay okay , Craft you deserve a review. I’ve been here more times than I care to remember , it feels like breathing. That’s actually what this place becomes , the more times you go , the more you want to keep coming back . Very “my friend owns a spot in Parkhurst that we can go to “kind of place - except he doesn’t <br/><br/>On this particular day I chose the cheapest cocktail , turns out you really can’t put a price on the best things in life ! Wowza , that rosemary juju ma-bob was lovely. Ribs are ribs , what can I say , but it’s the burgers I’ve fallen in love with. <br/><br/>I like how this place feels , so casual and easy to become a regular in.
Duduetsang Mpshane
Staff is very friendly . The food was great ! We had a problem with one of the cocktails though, it’s called a frozen margarita but it’s not frozen and when we brought this to the attention of the waiter he said “ this is how craft makes it “ maybe just call it a margarita?

Had breakfast at Craft, having been here a couple of years back. Same great vibe and good service. I wasn't too pleased with the food though. Ordered the Huevos Rancheros and a cappuccino. My coffee was just warm when it arrived so drank it all up pretty quickly before my food even came. The eggs came and I wasn't happy because they were cooked hard and the waiter hadn't asked how I'd like my egg. The sauce was bland. They were kind enough to 're-make' my food when the whole peppercorn bottle poured over it (bottle not well closed) but tasted some whole pepper corns on its return. Not the best experience food wise and probably won't be rushing back.

Craft is my guilty pleasure. After every visit i tell myself never again BUT im always back. Tip: Please go there hungry, sharing is caring and wear loose pants. I go for the desserts but the food draws you in that you cannot help but order both. Cheat day everyday. Portion sizes are MASSIVE. Desserts are plated so beautifully. Definitely recommend if you not on a diet 😂 Would have been 5 but this branch is very tiny so seating is not the most comfortable

Had a filling and great lunch at Craft today. Our lovely waiter Nonci was attentive and happily gave us recommendations.<br/>My boyfriend had the pulled pork burger which he rated as "amazing and really well done"; the accompanying sweet potato fries were also delicious!<br/>I had the fried chicken and waffles - the waffle was super soft and delish, chicken was well done too however, I did find it a bit oily.<br/>I had come there to try the dessert, but was too full after lunch - will have to make another visit, looks creative and divine :)<br/>Tables turn quite quickly here, obviously a popular spot hence they don't take lunch reservations.<br/>Also love their little extra effort with the sweets when paying the bill.<br/>

What I appreciate the most about this place is the extensive menu - it has great options for vegetarians, and not just the two plain Greek salad or veggie burger items. I loved the ambience of the place, too!
Lizzete Terwin
Been waiting to go for ages... finally went and was mind blown on what to order so many choices and all amazing sounding. For drinks I choice House blend of lemonade- was disappointed when it arrived as it was mostly mint.... no where on menu did it state there be mint in. Then went with blueberry ice tee that was Amazing!!! More than made up for it. Good was delicious had the beetroot salad.
Sabeeha Dawood
Wonderfully presented food. The taste was okay. I ordered an Oreo cheesecake- this was excellently displayed however the taste was average. three ambience and service was average and acceptable.

We had a nice Human rights day dinner at Craft. The milkshakes are amazing and the food was nice as well. The burgers was well cooked and really tasty. The only negative was the service that was really not good where they took very long and brought the wrong stuff to the wrong tables. But besides that Craft is very nice and we had a good time.
Jillian Nyakane
Thank you Zomato for reminding me to be polite on my reviews😉 so I’ll start with the good stuff, the service was alright, the waiting staff was attentive and helpful since I went there with my 3 year old daughter. unfortunately I didn’t enjoy my breakfast here. It was my first time and the food just didn’t impress me.
Lindsay Shuttleworth
We stopped in for a drink early evening and I was pekish so asked for a side of wedges when I was refused and told that they wouldn’t help me. I was quite put out as they made no effort to make a plan for us. Won’t be going back.
Ian
We went to Craft on recommendation from friends. The vibe is good but that is where it ends. <br/>Food is over priced for what you get. Nothing that arrived at the table, other than the wine, was as described on the menu. <br/>Speaking of which, the menus are presented to you in leather covered skins but the actual menus are dirty and torn and seem uncared for.<br/><br/>Flies were in abundance, in fact in our seating area I think there may have been more flies than people.<br/><br/>Service was okay but given the abundance of restaurants in Parkhurst, Craft will never see my hard earned money again
Jessica Armstrong
Always a great place to eat. Love the theatrics in their food from their amazing milkshakes down to their burgers this place turns eating into an experience that can not be missed. Again the milkshakes wow! Best ever and so much fun. They turn simple dishes like Mac n cheese into an event. Love this place and sad they don’t take lunch reservations because they’re so busy and for good reason!
Tshepo Matsose
Great service and even better atmosphere! Food is on point and the beers flow! Michelle serviced my table and will request her by name next time.
Scott Murray
Great cocktails, excellent service. Food superb. Good vibes. Good spot to have a chilled time with friends or family. No bookings, so get there early to secure a spot
Keabetsoe Phello
Ambience was lovely.the service was excellent. On point and regular and close by if I need something extra from the menu. Menu was a bit concise but they had very interesting meals and a wide range on the menu. What I must speak about is their milkshake.out of this world. Extremely creative, and very yummy. I had the salted caramel. It was declined, and I shared it with great company 😍
Cayla Riley
Wow Craft is definitely a must try. I really had a wonderful day here . The food is crazy good and very creative . It’s always busy but the service is good . Love the atmosphere and they have the best milkshakes ever 👍🏻
Inge Nefdt
One thing .... go here hungry 😂!!! The portions are huge. I had the creamy mushrooms on waffle ❤️ fabulous ! They are really well known for their milkshakes so give that a try if you have space.
Suzanne Strydom
Went here for a quick lunch on Saturday...but because the vibe was so relaxed, there was water spray cooling me down on a hot summers day and they serve their wine in the most beautiful glasses, it turned into quite a long lunch. Service was on point, quick and friendly. I had the chicken and waffles- quite good, yummy sauces,, but I found the chicken itself a bit dry. Husband had the braai pizza (? think it was called that) which was AMAZING. I had a bit of food envy... Cool spot!
Anna Banana 🌻
The food is a little over the top for my liking but the service was excellent and it had a great vibe. It's true their milkshakes are delicious but they are so incredibly rich that I could only have them once in a while for a treat.
Gerlind
It's always great to see menus that cater to Vegan and Vegetarian in an interesting inventive way! We had the Crispy black bean burger with cauliflower RĂśsti instead of a bun, and with a side of yummy sweet potato fries. Totally delicious and with a portion size that had me save the second half for breakfast the next day. Will be back to try one of the decadent milkshakes I saw.
Lauren Faill
Love the atmosphere in this part of town. Always at the top of the list when asking where we should go. Freak shakes are definitely a massive highlight. Would love if you could book a table in advance- have tried a couple of time but told it's on a first come first serve basis. We went once and the wait was an hour so we went somewhere else but that just shows how popular it is :)
Nazir Kathrada
Poor service. Advertised drinks not on the menu and overpriced. Taste of the food was average. Wouldn't come back in a hurry again, unless huge changes are made. Manager completely unreceptive. Changed waiters twice. Service times very slow<br/>Ordered take away Mac & cheese for my daughter. Worst that she's had. Oily and tasteless; made her nauseous. Changed my mind. Won't ever go back again!
Kudzai Maeresa
Lovely place....great ambience, child friendly. Had the baked avo breakfast absolutely loved it. Across the table some not so happy faces had ordered the pulled pork but overall lovely experience.
Hannah
Menu with large variety. Enjoyed our breakfast (had the poached peaches and oats) there and good coffee too. Service not 100% on form but nothing too frustrating
Candice Fonelli
This is my go to place when i go to Parkhurst. Have always enjoyed the food and there is always a buzz in the place. I don't eat a lot of meat but when I'm in the mood this is where I have my steak. Service is always good too, but that may be because i've been there 12 million times and im part of the furniture.

I stumbled upon Craft one wintery night in 2017. Waiting for a mate to finish a work function I tucked into a shepherds pie (if I recall) and had the most amazing tomato soup. Found the menu and specials to be quite enticing and will definitely need to sample some more. But, yeah, that tomato soup was incredible... and it's a soup... just a plain ol soup.
Lloyd Blake
Craft is a great spot for sundowners or and easy catch up with friends. The menu is easy enough to work your way through and they have some great cocktails. For a name like craft I would expect a slightly larger selection of craft beers on tap and that selection to vary occasionally alas it stays the same. It can be a little pricey for what you are getting but it’s a busy little spot on the corner and a great place to shoot the breeze or watch the occasional passerby.

I love how this restaurant is situated on a street with many many shops and different restaurants around it. There is a fun, and lively vibe to the restaurant. We had a problem with a bee as we were seated close to the entrance/outside. Their citronella candles solved the problem after some time though.<br/>My friend ordered the chicken pita pockets and I had the chicken burger. The Chicken was perfectly cooked and tasty and we both liked our meals.<br/>She suggested the bubble tea which was probably the highlight of my day. It was absolutely bursting with flavor and being the first time I have ever had bubble tea, it was quite an experience.<br/>I love how their drinks menu is flooded and that we are spoilt for choice! We ended off with the chocolate cake which I found delicious with all the odds that accompanied it such as cream and a compote. It made the cake which I found somewhat dense much more enjoyable.<br/>They pay attention to presentation which is always a nice touch.<br/>With regards to service, food came quicker than expected. The only fault I have was that our waitor was not attentive and a bit forgetful with slow service.<br/>That aside, I had a great overall experience and would come back to try their freak milkshakes as they look absolutely divine and I hear that it is s must try!

Had heard a lot about the plAce so decided to go check it out.<br/>I loved the setting and deco of the plAce however found it very small as more people started arriving, nonetheless enjoyed my meal a lot and would definitely go back on a more quite day.

I chomped on a basic burger with the norm. No oooo or aaaahh moment. Service was good though, friendly people. In terms of the atmosphere, it’s trendy with a retro chic feel. The turning point for me was the prices, it’s way overpriced.

Finger food ans craft beers are the signature. <br/>Location is awesome and is family friendly. It is loud but not so that you can't have a conversation, but again; beers go with load. <br/><br/>Try it on a Friday evening just as the sun is going down or Saturday for a long lunch.
Bronwen Davies
The most innovative breakfast and dessert menu I've seen in a long time! I'm determined to visit again, to try other dishes. <br/>My husband had the Breakfast Sausage and Asian Greens - delicious! I had the Huevos Rancheros Breakfast Pan - a hearty egg, chorizo and tomato dish with Mexican flavours. <br/>My daughter ordered the steak ball breakfast and, sadly, it was overdone. The steak balls were rock hard and burned on the bottom and the egg was stuck to the baking dish. <br/>Our waiter, Shepherd, was excellent.
Gautam Rao
Always a great time here - the food is unique and very good. the drinks are also always great to explore and on occasion the chef will converse with the customers and talk about the magic they are up to in the kitchen. Great for a large gathering or an intimate time with a select individual.
Ria
Really good breakfast/drinks spot. Brilliant selection of gins and craft beers. I had the breadless chickpea burger served with a blooming onion. Highly recommended!
Matlala
Food selection is extremely limited with mostly pork options. Ambiance is ok. There was no sound on the television in order to watch sports, after I had called, with the silly excuse that a waiter took the remote home days ago. So how was this not solved days ago?!! Food is really average. Service is OK. Not returning any time soon!!!

My second visit to Craft and still super impressed! The service was quick and attentive and such a fun vibe - especially with the tables around you all gasping when they see the size of the milkshakes!!! <br/><br/>The drinks menu is super diverse so there was something to suit every taste bud! We had a great family birthday celebration with everyone ordering a variety of meals off the menus and everyone leaving full and happy! Unfortunately my boyfriend and I both received our meals a little cold, but the staff were wonderful and heated it up in no time and the manager gave his sincerest apologies. <br/><br/>And of course we couldn’t leave without ordering one of Craft’s famous milkshakes!! They are super huge and defeated us all (we had to eventually surrender to the mighty milkshake and get a take away😂). <br/><br/>Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Livashnee David
Milkshakes are sickeningly sweet but delicious. If you order the candy floss gourmet milkshake be ready to share or you will be sick. Restaurant is usually full. Book in advance or you may have to wait a while for a table.
Phat_Panda118
Supremely busy, even on a Thursday night. Stopped for coffee to try a recommended Black Latte (with activated charcoal as a curious additive), however this was out of stock! Despite this, our very friendly waiter (Radius, I think) was more than helpful in suggesting alternatives. I recommended trying out their milkshakes, especially the psychedelic and whimsical Candy Floss one.

Amazing breakfast @craft restaurant #CraftPhotos. Food was delicious. Service was great, especially Memory our waitress and Mbongi the manager. Coffee wasn’t quite to our liking but that didn’t detract from the meal. The “lasagne” was amazingly delicious. Salmon potato rosti was fresh and tasty with caviar that was like little morsels of heaven. The craft breakfast was fantastic value and scrumptious. Kids also enjoyed the Nutella French toast with marshmallows. Very rare to find a manager so on the ball, observant and hands on! A mere look from customers had him at the table without delay to check if anything was required. Brilliant service. What a great asset to a restaurant. Will definitely be back to try the milkshakes.

Not too shabby, not the best burger I have had either. They do however have a great selection of craft beers which makes the food a tad more tolerable. Descent service and great atmosphere...
Carol Nader
Friendly staff and good service. The med platter contained mainly cucumber<br/>and tomatoes, which was disappointing. Not easy for the frail and elderly get to the toilet as stairs steep and staff do not offer to help.
HapaTales
I had high hopes for this place. First off, the service was great. Very friendly and helpful. The presentation of the food was also well done and very unique. My hubs ordered the craft burger which he thought was pretty good. However, I ordered the chicken and waffles and was really disappointed. The chicken tasted okay, but only after I removed the excess fried batter. The waffle also didn’t have much flavor and was oddly difficult to cut and the syrup did not blend well with the meal.
Loveroffood
Been to this restaurant twice and both times didn’t disappoint. The food is quite big, very wholesome and tasty too. The milkshakes were HUGE but amazing. The atmosphere was lovely, and very busy, bookings is a must, unless you get there before the rush. And the staff were lovely and attentive.
Bjorn Linsin
Drinks were mediocre at best and the food tasteless, terrible and overpriced. My chicken wasn't cooked properly and my partner's burger was bland but they still expected us to pay for it. When I complained the manager didn't even have the decency to come over, instead he gave us dirty looks. Won't go back again. Over hyped and overrated. Pass.
Ryan Smith
Modern yet funky place. Extremely expensive considering that most drinks and food are commonly served all over the Parkhurst strip.<br/><br/>Service was good and quick. They have a somewhat large variety of craft gins and beers but nothing out of the ordinary.<br/><br/>Great place for a meetup and a quick drink and snack with a fancy'ish vibe to it.
Carel BĂśhmer
A firm favorite on the a Parkhurst strip. A spacious restaurant compared to most of its Neighbour's offering a good selection of beer and food paired with fantastic service. Lesser known secret is that they serve a great breakfast if you can avoid being seated to cyclist who do not shower before dining...

We haven't been back to Craft in ages, after averaging twice weekly visits, because the last time we went, we were made to stand in a queue only for a couple who arrived after us to just sit down and take the only available table. The waiter acknowledges that they weren't even in the queue and so, after a 'sorry, you'll just have to wait longer', we left. <br/>This time, we were left waiting for about 10 minutes while there were a whole lot of empty tables because only 1 person deals with seating. No manager in sight.<br/>After being seated, and ordering, we waited more than 45 minutes for food. The salad is R125 for a board of cucumber, tomato and feta which is vastly over-priced. The burger was just salty.<br/>The only item I can recommend is the matcha latte, which was really good.<br/>We will not be back nor can we recommend this place anymore.
Danielle Botha
Once I saw the famed freak-shakes on Craft's facebook page, I knew I would have to try out these opulent shakes. Initially, I was worried that the shakes could just be a garish mish-mash of sweets with no cohesive flavour.<br/><br/>Luckily, I was completely wrong. Each layer of sweet and sour made for a perfect experience. The milkshakes look sublime. The restaurant has a fantastic ambience. The service is somewhat slow, but understandably so as the restaurant seems filled to brim most of the time.<br/><br/>Although we just devoured some milkshakes, I wouldn't mind in the slightest to return to savour some the food served at Craft.
