Review Dolci Cafe - Johannesburg

Victor H.
For years, this restaurant has held its ground in JHB, consistently delivering authentic Italian tastes. If you're hunting for hand-made pasta – a rarity in this city – then this place is a must-visit. The Rosa green pasta is particularly noteworthy, and their gnocchi, especially the creamy napolitana version, is simply delectable. They've given their space a fresh twist with the addition of a new pizza oven and a stylish bar area. These additions undoubtedly enhance the dining atmosphere. That said, they have revamped the whole restaurant to make it look better, but still, classic family vibes. It's worth hoping for some upgrades in that regard. On the beverage front, they offer a decent range of beers on tap and a respectable wine selection. All things considered, for those in search of genuine Italian flavours in the heart of JHB, this establishment is a strong contender.

Takeaway for my 1st time everr trying this place that I've been trying to get to go forever! So decided I'd do a takeaway It was perfectly perfect. Been craving a Buffalo moz filled pasta since Italy in June and well only place iv seen that makes it. So today was the day. Outstanding and perfect. Can't wait to get the chance to come in and try everything on the menu

outstanding from top to toe, fresh delicious homey Italian and excellent service in a beautiful place. thank you

Friendly waiter, management was a bit aloof… nice light, decent size tables, tasty food. Portions are a bit small which made it feel a tad pricey… tasty though!

Food was good despite the order being slightly wrong. Would be a 5 star experience was it not for the service being quite tardy. Perhaps we had an inexperienced waitron. I ate the Gormet Salmon Avo, it was delicious and would certainly recommend.
Ève Smith
Had the squid, potato and tomato salad and it was truly delicious!

Flawless. The food, staff and ambiance at Dolci was amazing. The pizza are fresh with a crispy base and a slight chew in the dough. All desserts were top class. Can highly recommend

Great service, great breakfast - every dish with a twist. Staff with a sense of pride and ownership. Definitely going back!!!

My final luncheon with my Besty. Italian it was, we received wonderful service and enjoyed the cuisine.

Unexpectedly relaxing atmosphere. The coffee shop’s menu has a variety of traditional Italian dishes and many vegetarian options. Desserts are delicious too.

Truffle pasta and gnocchi is a must! Their signature dessert is out of this world. Great atmosphere and attention to detail

Veal is absolutely fantasic. Pizzas are authentic. Service attentive. Wonderful for a special occasion!
Nicky Jervis
Dolci is CONSISTENTLY good. It's the kind of consistency you want from your local Italian. Never disappoints.

Loved the ambiance; great place for a laid back Saturday. We had great breakfast and big sized cappuccinos & lattes.
Sally Reolon
Great coffee. Macaroon was stale and overpriced Underwhelming light breakfast and gluten-free anchovy toast.. overpriced!
Allison Swart
A huge thank you to Jackie for my daughter's birthday lunch on Saturday. The food was absolutely delicious and we all enjoyed it so much. The staff were great and the cupcakes were to die for!

A rare find in terms of reasonably priced genuine and authentic Italian fare. Owner/manager attendance makes for a personal and pleasant service experience, and general staff are well trained, friendly and efficient... Food is honest and delicious and exceptionally well priced.
You frankly will struggle to find better....

What a EXPENSIVE disappointment. Dolci was recommended by a friend and the food was bland and very boring. I have the Veal limone which has absolutely no lemon in it. The Steak Tatare meat was awful - tasted sweet? The three main meals were served about 5 mins apart. This was not the waiters fault but the kitchen. Wine expensive and food very expensive for the quality. All in all a absolute disappointment . Definitely won't ever go back.

Amazing food, excellent service 👍👍👍👍👍

Great spot hidden away (I have lived in Parktown North for a couple of years and never even knew of this place LOL)! Proper Italian food made the traditional way. Zucchini fries to die for as well as all the pasta dishes! They do homemade sorbet that is not to be missed! Loved the vibe! Great spot to take family and friends!
Yummy!
Delicious Pizza and pasta! We have followed this owners food wherever it has moved from Illovo to Blairgowrie and now Craighall, and the irresistible flavours and authenticity have remained. Staff and management are eager, friendly and keen to assist and make you feel comfortable. The food is amazing!

My husband and I heard about Dolce, and was advised to make a reservation, we did however not listen to the advice and tried our luck at just pitching up. The restaurant was busy, but the Manager went out of his way to ensure we have a table. Wat an amazing evening! The live music (apparently its played every Friday evening) was amazing. The wine sommelier was spot on with her recommendations and the food was close to perfect. I can not fault their service either. It felt, for a short second, like I was in the heart of Chianti Italy. We will definitely be going back.

Delicious true authentic Italian restaurant.

Nice location, calm romantic setting, tasty and scrumptious food. Prices are good for the quality of food. Great variety of food on the menu.

Would definitely be back to try the other dishes on the menu.

I would’ve appreciated more attention from my waiter. It was a Friday evening and the live music was a treat to hear while having dinner.

Arrived to a warm, welcoming restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff, fantastic service and delicious food with plenty of options. Will definitely return in future

Absolutely loooooooved the ambience, definitely a hidden gem! Coming back to unwind without a doubt. All I had was dessert after a long and stressful day, took a little long but was well worth it.

I have lived in the area for a decade and watched one restaurant, yoga studio and fighting gym after the other fail in this centre. How wonderful then that this pitch perfect Italian restaurant has arrived and appeared to defy the odds.

The selling point here is the food. I’m not Italian so I can’t tell you whether it deserves the label ‘authentic’ but like Assaggi (with which it shares DNA) it all comes across as home-cooked with the best available fresh ingredients.

The wine list includes extensive by-the-glass options which are all great choices. And the vibe is simple, friendly and welcoming.

A real treat.

Read about this place in Lifestyle(Sunday Times) and always keen to try new places. Was really disappointed. Ordered 3 slices of Anchovie Toast, only got 2 but it was charged for 3. It was expensive and hardly had any anchovies on it! Service was not great either.
Robyn Lin
Definitely one of gems in Joburg. Service is good, staff are really friendly but not all over you kind, never really disappointed with the food (though pasta could be a bit warmer?), beautiful desserts too. hope they keep the standard, cause so far so good.

Yay, yay o yay!! I was so sad when Amacord closed its doors and I thought I would never have Luciano’s to die for, Canneloni again. I was so happy to hear that her signature dishes had been added to the Dolci cafe menu and I finally got to go this Friday. It was even better than I remembered and I loved the quaint cafe and atmosphere and had fantastic service from Ayanda. Dolci Cafe has been added to my list of favourite s and I might just add it to my regular visiting list too.

This charming little cafe is a gem. We decided to try it after it was mentioned in a list of places with the best cheesecake in Johannesburg.
There is an al fresco area over some astro to give the impression of a little garden. Lovely on a sunny day.
We tried their risotto dishes. Delicious, perfectly cooked risotto with layers of flavour.
Their baked cheesecake (plain New York baked) was excellent with a lovely smooth creaminess.
Recommended!

This truly is a hidden gem! Went for breakfast and Dolci’s delivered on food, service and ambiance. Staff is very attentive without being over bearing, rest rooms nice and clean.
Tristan Cornew
My wife and I tried out Dolci for the first time this evening (takeaways through OrderIn). We had a hankering for pasta and the menu looked great. The experience was rather underwhelming, the portions were small and of the two dishes we ordered the chicken pasta had virtually no chicken and the gnocchi with walnuts was gloopy and had absolutely no walnuts. I don't think we will be getting food from here again.
Vandan Modi
Ordered food for delivery - the jalapeño poppers were swimming in oil, the falafel were raw from inside and the batter was completely uncooked . The tiramisu came all melted and the can of coke was straight out of the furnace - thoroughly
disappointed and appalled by such poor food.

More a 3.5 rating than a 3.

Have been wanting to try out this neighborhood restaurant for a while now. And it certainly is a neighborhood “local” hangout. Seems like the owner knew most of the patrons. The waiter was attentive, helpful and not intrusive. Just what one wants.

Our pasta was a little dry, but full of flavor. The zucchini fries were to die for. The wine list has something for everyone.

This restaurant has been on my radar for a while as it keeps popping up on my Zomato feed and i kept noticing how high the rating is. I was meeting a friend for breakfast and I suggested that we try it out.

There is both indoor and outdoor seating but we decided to sit inside as it was a little chilly outside. Our waiter was friendly and the service was good.

I ordered a latte to drink. It was pretty good and the temperature was just right. Deciding what to eat was tough because the menu is huge and I was feeling for something sweet and savoury. I saw pancakes on the menu and pancakes are my absolute favourite so I ended up ordering the cinnamon and sugar pancakes as well as the small breakfast with a soft poached egg and ciabatta toast. The pancakes were nothing short of delicious and so was the small breakfast. My egg was perfectly poached, the bacon was delicious and my ciabatta toast was crispy on the outside but still nice and soft on the inside. I really enjoyed the food. My friend ordered the French toast, which looked equally as delicious.

I'm really glad I tried this restaurant. It's the perfect breakfast spot and a great place to grab a quick coffee. I'll definitely be back!

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to pay this charming eatery a visit! I popped in for a working lunch. Enjoying the recently extended and renovated space, comfort and warmth was top of mind for a truly chilly July day. Wilson took excellent care of me, first seating me on a plump blue velvety couch, in the mood for a pasta, he recommended the gnocchi pasticiatta, has a creamy twist (just add chillies) and Greek salad to balance the meal. An aromatic Americano to top it all off, got me through the rest of my work day. Checking out other reviews, will definitely be back to try out their tantalizing brekkies.

We came here 1 morning for breakfast. Nothing wakes you up like a yummy poached eggs from hell! It was what fueled and fired my soul. Thank you for bringing me back to life!

Dolci cafe is quaint place in Craighall. The setting is sunny and open. It perfect place for a late breakfast after a late night out. I had the egg white and oats griddle cakes (healthy option :)). The breakfast means were tasty, well portioned and reasonable priced. The desserts were just ok with the pastry being a bit on the thick side. Will visit again though to try some of the other great looking items on the menu.
Paul Vermaak
Always a great visit - was encouraged to try the bree & asparagus lasagne... what a win!?

Coffee was great, service better and setting, is a little French-cottage style hidden in the 'burb's.

They also have a brilliant Prosecco on tap, for an easy afternoon buzz...
Luciana Matsuda
Food is great and pastries are amazing!
The food is real and you can see that the ingredients are fresh. Really nice place for breakfast, coffee or lunch.
Please try the pastries. :)

I will give this restaurant 4 stars for food. The food is outstanding the French toast is spectacular, scrambled egg and salmon is tasty. My one daughter had the omelette it was devine. The food is well presented and well spiced.

The service is shocking, we had to keep calling someone to help us. I got my tea with no milk and I had to ask twice for it. We also asked for more toast to be told they had no more bread. As we were there for breakfast I found this unexceptable.

This restaurant is situated in a pretty setting.
Lisa Lumley
I always enjoy visiting this cute place. It reminds me of a ladies tea room.

The breakfast selection is good and the portion sizes and prices are reasonable.

Perfect place to grab a quick no fuss breakfast and coffee and maybe even a Nutella horn on the way out.
Carel Frederik Kallie
Finally ! Stopped for a quick breakfast and from the word “Go” it was amazing

Had small breakfast and value for its money

Definitely will come back again x

This cafe is a very sweet spot nestled in Craighall.

I find the parking s little bit nightmarish and their prices a skittle steep.

The service is good, there baked items superb. The dinner menu, however, is sometimes brilliant and sometimes awful depending on the night.

Yummy avo & toast, great espresso, lovely restaurant and great staff! Really enjoyed this little spot! .....................................

I loved the attention to detail at Dolci Cafe. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and my cappuccino came in the prettiest mugs I've ever been served a cappuccino in. Because I am still trying to shed the extra Christmas kilos, I went for a plain and simple boiled eggs and soldiers.
Anthony Sabbagh
An amazing restaurant. Definitely beats the corner cafe for me. A lot more spacious and waiters are incredibly well mannered. Food was really good and will definitely be coming back!
Tahnee Anne Naidoo
Amazing food, amazing service from our waiter, Ayanda. The menu has a lot of great (affordable) options to choose from and the setting was very pretty.

What a great find for the end of the year! I have driven past so many times - to my detriment. Wonderful venue, superb service, delicious food and very acceptable prices. My friend and I shared a delicious steak tartare (just maybe a touch more brandy?) followed by a magnificent chicken breast dish for me and a really special prawn kebab dish for her. Very reasonable wine prices, too! I shall be back.

I really like Dolci Cafe. Simple yet effectively decorated with interesting art on the walls (that you can buy). The food is what drives me back. It’s great, simple, tasty Italian food. If you like a bit of spice then the Eggs in Hell should be your breakfast of choice. The melanzane and all the pastas are great. A very chilled spot with great food.

What a lovely little hidden gem. Looks tiny from the outside, but when you go inside the restaurant, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Lovely outside seating area.

We had breakfast and it was delicious. Not too many people can make poached eggs the way I like it (medium), served wth crispy toasted sour dough toast. My friend has the scrambled eggs - and it looked mouth watering also. Coffee is good - and they have mega sizes served EXTRA hot. Just like I like it! I hate cold coffee...

The waiter was on point and friendly. Great little place!

Clayton hosted our event for The Last Sacrament auditions. An awesome host with the most delicious tarts. Loved the look, feel and great service. Cannot wait to take family there for a delicious dinner.

I went here for lunch on (8 August 2017)

The service was top notch! Absolutely exceptional. Great and attentive waiting staff. Nothing was too much. Super friendly.

The food was very nice. It was very fresh and very flavoursome. I tried the soupli (the fried risotto croquettes) and a side portion of fries. Both dishes were truly lovely.

My stepsister had the sticky beef and step mom had the spaghetti bolognese and they both loved their food too.

Also, I had a skinny red latte. Probably one of the best ones I have had in Joburg!

Will certainly be back soon and highly recommend if you are in the Craighall area.
Alex Wright
My girlfriend and I love this place. Such incredible food and hospitality, with live jazz on Fridays, a real suburban gem. We hope that support pours in because we want this one to stay.
Coffee and breakfast = amazing
Melanzane and lasagna are the signature dishes and are just delicious.
Great vibes and really the most amazing waiters to boot; super attentive and just really really on the ball 10/10

Dolci Cafe is indeed a hidden gem 👌🏻🔥
This is officially my new found brunch spot and I can't wait to try their main meals .
I thoroughly enjoyed my freshly baked croissant with cheesy eggs and bacon ...
My friend had the antipasto and she enjoyed it . We will surely be back ; the waiters were so friendly and efficient. Thanks to Ayanda our waiter he was great !
Great cosy spot ! I loved it !

For an almost new restaurant the building it is in is not so ‘new’. In saying this I think it does bring character that everything is not newly built/renovated. I was greeted immediately as I got out of my car and again by the waiter inside. The décor is nice, it just not quite has a ‘100% cosy’ feel yet that one is looking for especially if you go for dinner.
Went for high tea. Having been for high tea at all the fancy places which I will not mention I can honestly say that the food was great and in abundance. The bread was fresh, the quiches fresh. The scones a little dry but Ive never had a not dry scones and that is was the tea is for. The sweet selection was delightful and as a person not really eating sweet stuff even I had 2 or 3 of the deserts and I loved every single one of them. I was super impressed when they asked if we wanted to take the leftovers on the tray home and this showed class as I already paid for them so why not? Other restaurants don’t let you take the left overs home. They do not fill the trays up as you finish them but I found that this was not necessary as every single person at the table had one of each thing on the tray and like I said there was even leftover. The only thing that bugged me slightly that our actual tea was not included in the price of R245 person and we had to pay extra.
The service was very attentive and the place looks clean and you feel like you are eating good quality food made by good quality ingredients. This will definitely be my high tea place from now on. They also do cakes and if the sweets at tea were so delicious I can only imagine the cakes. Will definitely consider going for lunch/dinner some time as the menu looked interesting. Now if only they can get the ‘cosy’ a notch higher, the place will be perfect in my books.

Tucked away in a little area in Craighall. Owned by Itallians and continuing the assaggi and amacord style of food. This place has great itallian cusine. Freshly made pastas and enjoyable preseco on tap, this place caters well for your lazy Saturday lunch. Little deserts and treats are delicious to finish off your experience. The bathrooms need a bit of work , but overall the place is looking good.
The Great Diner
Found a hidden gem in Craighall Park. What a lovely little spot. Interior is pretty, spacious and so well decorated. Went in for a lazy Saturday brekkie. Wasn't too busy, so felt like we had the spot to ourselves. Food was amazing. Service was delightful. Nothing to fault, really. Gotta give the lunch or dinner menu a try.

Fantastic... Fantastic... Fantastic
Great value!!!
Bellissima
Had some baked risotto balls, which was brilliant. Great cake and fabulous coffee. One of the best Italian restaurants!!!
Melanie Meyers
Lovely little Italian deli...very friendly staff and amazing food. Melanzane was delicious and pasta cooked perfectly al dente. Nice wine list, and don't forget to pass the display fridge on your way out...delicate pretty tasty little pastries....

Dolci Cafe is a new neighbourhood favourite of mine! It's an absolute hidden gem that I cannot recommend highly enough. Quiet, tastefully decorated and with a lovely relaxed vibe- it's the ideal weekday or weekend spot.
The service is spot on and the owners are always around and involved which is great to see.
I've had both lunch and breakfast here in the last two weeks and both meals were fantastic.
For lunch I tried the steak and caramelised onion sandwich which was super tasty and really hit the spot. My mom's salami and Italian cheese sandwich was also delicious and bursting with fresh flavours.
You absolutely have to go inside to the patisserie counter and buy a few of the profiteroles- best I've ever had!
For breakfast this morning I had the freshly baked croissant with bacon and scrambled eggs which was generous and absolutely scrumptious. My friend had the special which was avo on toast- also yummy.
The coffee here is some of the best in town as well.
Can't wait to come try out the dinner menu!

We had heard good things about Dolci on various neighbourhood Facebook pages, so popped in for a quick lunch this week. We enjoyed sitting outside in the autumn sun and thought the Zucchini/ anchovy penne pasta and bruschetta were delicious. Service was really helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. We gathered that the cafe has just expanded and is now open at night so we booked for dinner. We were really impressed with our meal. Again service is friendly and the manager engaged and helpful. The space does seem a bit unfinished (and the manager explained that they are still working on this and getting used to their new space and kitchen). The food was fabulous - fresh and tasty and well presented and well priced. The mushroom risotto was excellent, the spaghetti with tuna was fresh, light and tasty and my fillet with mash and rocket, served perfectly medium rare as requested, was perfect. A choice of good wine and bubbles by the glass is useful. And a fantastic array of Italian pastries available for dessert allow for a small sweet mouthful to end the meal. Highly recommended.

Dolci has recently undergone a renovation and grown in size. I found the space a little "cold" and sparse, and the acoustics weren't great, whereas the restaurant used to have quite a cozy feel to it. I had scrambled eggs, bacon and rye toast the other morning. It was a generous portion and very tasty. Coffee was great too! The service from waitrons was a bit slow with the manager/owner doing most of the running around. He was very helpful and attentive. The menu looked extensive and I'd like to give it a try for lunch.
Daan Jacobs
One of the best spots for a wide variety of breakfasts and lunches. Great friendly service adds to the warm neighbourhood feel. The cookies served with coffee is delicious.

A lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere settled in the heart of Craighall Park. Came here for a late breakfast with some friends and we all loved it. The staff are friendly and treat their customers with a smile. Definitely worth a visit. Can't wait to come back here.

My in-laws were out from Scotland and we were looking for somewhere light for breakfast - my husband had read good reviews and so we decided to give Dolci a go ! What a delightful spot - we have been since and gave sat both inside and out - a mix of quaint tea shop meets cafe .. staff are lovely, management were visible and attentive on both visits. My hubby and sister-in-law had the griddle cakes which were not as expected, good but not great and quite big portions. The rest of us had either eggs and bacon or croissants which were all rated really good and very fresh! Coffee is hot and cups a nice size .. very important 😄 service was excellent and we will be back - it's great to sit outside in the sun and seems to be popular with runners and dog walkers alike.

Last night a fellow foodie friend and I went for dinner at Dolci Café in Craighall! Living in the area I have often done breakfast or lunch over a work meeting (how else do you do it). They recently started their new dinner menu and flip it's just so devine! I literally ate so slow I didn't want it to end!! I awoke this morning wishing it was last night again (don't laugh). Well done Dolci. So proud to have you in the hood, yay!

Find them on twitter & instagram: @dolci_sa

Ps this is NOT a paid advert. I posted it because if we want good places to stay we have to support them, not so?

#luxury #delicious #sublime #craighall

A quaint little restaurant in the heart of craighall that is ideal for a light lunch or brunch on a Sunday. For those of us who love dogs but can never seem to find a place for a good coffee AND a place for the pooches to relax, this place is an absolute gem. Brilliant service, good food, this place is really worth a visit!
Carien Jakovljevic
We stopped here for breakfast on a Sunday morning after reading good reviews. Husband had the Banting breakfast and I had the eggs from hell with a pork sausage.

Firstly, the cappuccinos are delicious! The food however was mind bogglingly bland. My eggs from hell has a note on the menu that it is spicy, it was not spicy at all. I added so much salt to my food, as did husband, but it just remained completely tasteless to the point where we thought it was weird. Husband's avo was mushy in spots and indoor and hard in other spots. Regarding my sausage, I was not sure whether it was pork or beef (again, completely tasteless) and it was very crumbly and dry. Savoury food an absolute disaster.

I tried a cream horn after breakfast and it was delicious, so my suspicions are this place is great for cake and coffee, but savoury is not their speciality.

I have been to Dolci Café a few times! Each time I go back it gets better and better! The Owners Clayton & Head Chef Jacqui constantly make me feel like part of the family. Food is just yummy and this Paleo High Protein breakfast is to die for. I'm just so in love with this place, I can't help myself but go back again and again! #welldone #thankyou

I visited this pretty little spot as part of an event that was held in collaboration with Zomato and Lanique. The owners were perfect hosts and the rest of the staff were warm, friendly and efficient.

We were a treated to a wide variety of savoury and sweet treats off their menu. Their cakes tasted as delicious as they looked and their chocolate brownies were my favourite! We had a variety of cocktails and coffees too. I tried a really great tasting Italian plum drink- yum!

I would love to visit again to try out their breakfast menu.
Deon Brummer
My wife's favourite place. A cosy, welcoming retreat, full of delicious meals and treats. Friendly, competent and efficient staff. We always leave more than satisfied. The owners are always on hand both in the kitchen and welcoming us on arrival. Free wifi and plug points make this an ideal out/in office experience. The "mocha" and Nutella & Strawberry pancakes are to-die-for!
The SA Food Guru
This is a charming, cute little neighborhood cafe in Craighall Park. Located close to the Spar, it's easy to miss if you don't know the area.

Anyway, they offer quite a large Italian inspired menu for such a tiny place, sporting some delicious breakfasts, salads, pastas and many home made sweet treats!

I had the poached eggs in Neapolitana sauce on sourdough with some extra bacon - nice and spicy!

I like the fact that the owners are running this place themselves - and their passion for food is apparent.

The staff are helpful and their coffee is excellent!
Come here if you're tired of the Parkhurst crowds and feel like something uniquely different.
Definitely a place that will steal your heart.
Tables And Thyme
A taste of an Italian Cafe at this owner run spot in the heart of Craighall. It's a trip worth making if you're not in the 'hood. Pop in for an unpretentious but delightful breakfast, light lunch or high tea....complete with Procecco of course! The friendly husband and wife team share their hospitality experience and Italian passion. We tried the delights of the high tea. You can taste that every dish has been prepared by a pastry chef using quality ingredients.
We can't wait to return for breakfast
The Food Musketeer
09.07.2016 I recently attended a #zomatoxdolci function in conjuction with Dolci Cafe and Lanique. It's situated slightly off the beaten track as I'd call it, as I have never driven down that park of Craighall yet I frequent down Jan smuts all the time.

It's slightly hidden so for those in the know they will make their way to this quaint eatery as I discovered from an ex colleague I bumped into who is a regular there.

We were treated to a various array of sweet and savouries which were all beautifully presented and appetising and even the bowl of fruit just looked inviting. I could have sat with that alone. The cakes were stunning in presentation and I enjoyed a taste of their chocolate brownies.

We got to try out the Lanique brand in various ways, be it Cocktails, Coffee or Don Pedro's and it was quite a refreshing taste. Quite different to what I had expected in terms of flavours and taste.

I can imagine a Saturday morning sitting outside having a breakfast here and I must try add it to my " to eat" list soon. I saw a prosecco poached eggs and toast on Instagram and hinted they should give it a try and ill happily be the guinea pig 😉

Thanks to the Zomato / Dolci / Lanique and Brand Ambassadors teams for a lovely afternoon.

Jackie Righi-Boyd and Clayton Boyd make a mean team in this Italian eatery and welcomed everyone with warmth and a smile and it certainly showed in your food. I had a most enjoyable experience being hosted by both Lanique & Dolci this past Saturday and managed to sample quite a bit of both Dolci's sweet and savoury options.

Dolci Cafe's slogan "For the love of pastry" certainly doesn't mislead one. What a cute little Italian cafe complete with bubbly, and great service.

For me, the highlight of the day was seeing Pastry Chef Jackie Righi-Boyd's signature cakes for any occasion (pictures attached). They truly were creative (and edible) masterpieces which show a creative passion for all things baking.

I cannot wait to return to sample their breakfast offerings!!

*Recommendation: If, like me, you are happy to have some wine (or bubbly) with breakfast, Dolci is now also fully licensed to assist! Bring on girls brunches in Craighall!

This past Saturday, I attended a Dolci Cafe event, to introduce the media to the food they offer. It is a very small and quaint venue with their outside area offering guests a lovely spot in the afternoon Johannesburg sun. I only ate the lovely pastries on offer, with the highlight being the little custard tarts, as seen in the picture. This was the best tasting custard tart I have ever eaten, even better than the ones offered by Tasha’s. I was however very surprised to see all the other food they offer, after going through their menu on Zomato. I will definitely go back to try some of it.

A brilliant cafe, great food and atmosphere. Friendly staff, the owners are awesome people and it is pet friendly too! Will definitely go back!
Petra Laranjo Hourquebie
Lovely atmosphere, relaxing, owner-run, fresh and quality ingredients, pet friendly, freshest scones, friendly staff, accommodating and casual environment. Will definitely make this a regular spot for breakfast, high-tea and lunch!

Lovely cost atmosphere. Friendly and a delicious menu. I popped in for a quick cup of coffee and was immediately tempted by the pastries- just the right size too! Will definitely be back for breakfast or lunch.

Went back today with a group of 16 people. Service was excellent. Food was served hot and was delicious. Lovely spot and the owners pulled out all the stops to make it a special celebration! Thanks -you!

Friendly atmosphere, good service. Tried the healthy oats and egg white dish, was a bit dry. Enjoyed the omelette. Will definitely go again, maybe try dinner.

Sweet little Italian coffee shop with lovely decor and pleasant background music. The cakes and pastries on display look delicious. Service was good. Now for the food...my burger was raw and although it was cooked the second time around, the patty was dry and had shrunk to about the size of a golf ball - probably best to avoid the burger.

When you find a little hidden gem of an Italian coffee shop, you know you're in for a treat. We visited Dolci Cafe for the first time the other day, although they've been open since the end of last year, and what a charming little coffee shop it is. The decoration is so cozy, the menu has a variety, the coffee is good and the sweet treats are amazing! For breakfast I had egg and soldiers, which was perfect for a cold winters day, and then had a pastry for dessert. I honestly love finding little hidden coffee shops and know I will become a regular here!

Great little place for a nice, quiet weekend breakfast. Good personalised service with good food. Menu is smaller than that of a franchise but just as tasty.

This is the type of restaurant we need more of in Joburg. Real, cozy, great food and owner run. Haven't had such a pleasant experience in a long time. Don't hesitate to go. It's a little piece of cape town in Joburg...

Found this great little restaurant on Zomato. The restaurant is bright and cheerful . We had such an awesome open omelet breakfast and then cheated with some 'to die for ' sweet treats, the carrot cake was divine. Coffee was really good too. Overall a gorgeous little spot.

WOW!
Surprise! Best prawn pasta and tagliata di manzo (fillet +++) in Joburg !
Do yourself a favour: I thought we were in Italy but good VALUE and with a glass of Pinot Grigio and bottle of Sangiovese from Terra del Capo - we were!!
Stunning 'neighborhood' lunch and the ladies went mad for their cakes.
We are lucky in Joburg! Sorry Cape Town!

One of our favourite passtimes is to try new breakfast spots on a Saturday or Sunday morning. And so, it happened, that last Sunday morning I turned to hubby and said: “I feel like trying a new place for breakfast.” So, we hopped onto Zomato to source a new place in our area. Unfortunately, the restaurant app only suggested restaurants that we had been to many times before. So, it was time for some lateral thinking…

After hearing about this place spoken of on Twitter, we were excited to try this new cafe. However, it was really disappointing. The Blueberry and Oats flapjacks were surprisingly Blueberry free (only one of the four contained any), the honey served in packets had crystallized and all for a whopping R60. Service was very slow and disorganised.

We'll chalk this up to teething problems as they admittedly mentioned this was the busiest they had ever been.

The pastries in Dolci are amazing, every time I go there, I feel as though I'm back in Italy, such an awesome spot to relax, with a Cappuccino and a few bite sized cakes, seriously yummy pastries!!!

We had the most lovely breakfast here in this small but beautiful cafe. The whole vibe is so perfect, and really makes you feel as if you are in a little Italian cafe, with fresh patisserie and fresh goods. The poached egg and bacon I had was served on a perfectly roasted croissant and it was incredibly good. And the Bruschetta Mista was simply to die for :) loved this place and had the greatest and friendliest service Trinka Mynhardt

Noticed this spot appear next to Toni's recently and have been curious to try it out. So went for breakfast today. The owners are extremely friendly, the food was OK, - nice fresh squeezed orange juice and nice coffee. Pleasant alternative to the usual 4th avenue breakfast spots.

Lovely new coffee shop on this stretch of Clarence Ave. Very friendly owner-managed. Great coffees and free wifi! We had very tasty melanzane for lunch. Likely to become a local hangout.

Lovely little spot in the suburb, free wifi and pet friendly. Strawberry and Nutella Croissant fresh and super yummy, the parfait beautifully presented. Will be back

A gorgeous Café in Craighall Park with amazing pastries and a very tasty Lasagna. I'll be back for lunch again soon. I can't wait till they get their Liquor license and start doing process breakfasts ;)

Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in. If you are watching your figure don't go here. If not, order a coffee and a syrup and bacon glazed doughnut. You have been warned.
