Review Olivia's Coffee Bake - Johannesburg

The food is excellent, just look at the picture of my chicken, avo, halloumi and bacon toastie. Excellent service and atmosphere. One of the upsides was the amount of options they have!

First time visit to Olivia's and loved the warm atmosphere. The food was fresh and flavourful. Our waitress was attentive and gave us great service despite it being a really busy morning. The bakery is so tempting with all its delights. Great potential to becoming a regular breakfast spot ♡

My husband and I absolutely love everything about this place. Everything is absolutely delicious, well priced and you can tell that everyone employed here takes pride in what they do. An absolutely stunning bakery and restaurant that we can't recommend enough!

Love this place. Excellent service. Fantastic food. So many options for vegetarians. Wonderful. One of our all time favourite breakfast hangouts.

Was there for brunch. Had a sense that any of the patrons are regulars. Immediate service and pleasant waitress. Manager walking walking around. Nice menu with good options. Had as a starter 😉 the flapjacks with maple syrup and cream - highly recommended! Mains well presented, good portion sizes and very tasty, you can tell that fresh ingredients were used.

Was and will always be a great place. Great owner. Mannered and efficient staff. Quality food. Well done Olivia's!

Always a lovely time at Olivia’s with wonderful baked goods. Honey glazed chicken with sesame seeds was delicious. Bread and chicken on the stacker was unfortunately very tough this time.

Lovely bakery/restaurant. Food fresh and portions ample, top-notch. Hamburger patty pure beef 🥩. Staff friendly and attentive. Must visit

Nice setting , very lively. Croissant and flapjacks very good. Lots of waiters, but service could be more attentive.

What a superb experience!! A small family group (4) for breakfast - with personal and attentive service from Viola, great food beautifully presented and served quickly, loads of choices on an impressive menu, and fully compliant but unobtrusive Covid-19 protocols with plenty of outdoor space. My first visit to Olivia's... I'm already looking forward to my next!!

My friend and I decided to have brunch at this lovely cafe today. We had an inside table right next to the yummy looking spread of their bakery goodies.

The coffee was good and didn’t have that burnt bitter taste. We ordered our breakfast and I had the Anchovy Topper whilst he had the Deluxe with the bottomless coffee.

The cafe was very busy and had a continual stream of patrons who came for baked goods. The diners also were a continued stream.

Our food arrived after an 15 minutes wait and I dived straight in. While I really enjoyed the taste I regret to say that it came out lukewarm. Just a personal pet peeve of mine I guess.

I would have scored this cafe 4stars if not for the lukewarm food and non complimentary WiFi.

However we will be back in a few weeks for our vegetable shopping at the excellently stocked next door Impala Food & Vegetables.

Always busy and vibey. Sandwiches are crazy delicious and they offer a wide variety of interesting combinations. Portions are huge. I do feel it's a bit pricey for a cafe. Cheesecake was soggy.

I was surprised to find this lovely restaurant and bakery, right next to Impala Fruit&Veg in Northcliff. A good, varied menu; free wifi; excellent coffee; and attentive service; all set in a light, clean and appealing venue. My food was a bit too oily, but all in all, I'll definitely go back again, when I'm in the neighbourhood.

I've been here for meetings a lot of times and finally came here for Saturday morning breakfast. Obviously ordered the eggs benedict /royale with smoke salmon. Ordered the toasted bacon and cheese for my daughter and my friend had a chicken wrap. Quality food. Creamy hollandaise sauce, and perfectly executed eggs. One thing that stood out for me was their chips. Stole one off my child's plate and before you knew it, I was eating the whole plate, plus my friends plate. Got a very special visit from the manager who landed up giving my daughter a dipped biscuit from their selection of home industries.

Well... it was a nice vibey lil place. I did enjoy my food... well for the most parts. I ordered the eggs Benedict with ‘crab meat’ .... which turned out to be some thing akin to crabstick. ... that was not pleasant. It would have been nice if the menu referred to what they actually used in the dish as opposed to saying “Diced Crab”.

It’s also a health risk, especially if people are allergic to the kind of stuff that goes into making crab sticks or artificial crab meat like products. Unfortunately that’s not impressive and the price is not justifiable given that they used imitation crab meat or processed crab produce.

Fresh bread, rolls and damn good pies. Perfect little neighbourhood bakery and Sunday family brekkie spot. Packed on the weekends. The rest of the Impala shops are a must visit - the butchery is decent AF.

I always like to find new breakfast paces wherever I visit and decided to visit Olivia’s Coffee Bake. The place was packed but the staff managed to find us a table very quickly. The menu was diverse with tons of items to choose from including pastries and bread that could ordered for take away. I ordered my usual eggs Benedict (perfect to test out any breakfast place) and my friend ordered the supreme breakfast (eggs, chourico, baked beads, toast and hash browns). We both had the bottomless coffee. The food arrived pretty quickly among the chaos of the other diners. I really enjoyed my eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was smooth and creamy and well spiced. The supreme breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Both breakfasts had the eggs cooked as we asked. The service continued to be top notch even in a busy environment. Will definitely be back to try more items on the menu.

Olivia’s is one of our favourite restaurants and bakeries in Jozi. The food is always fresh and delicious. They are always willing to make adjustments to the ingredients, to accommodate our dietary restrictions and preferences. The coffee is perfect.

The service is very good. I appreciate the humour and professionalism of the waiters and waiters. I’ve honestly never had a bad experience here.

Go, you won’t be disappointed.
Kyra
Very nice ambiance, busy but with quick and friendly service! Food was enjoyable but not spectacular, could have a little more flavor. Slightly pricey but the portions were good.
Overall a pleasant experience and a nice brunch vibe!

Olivia’s is always busy which is why we thought we’d try it during the festive season when everyone was away. And boy were we wrong, it was just as busy this Sunday morning.

We were greeted by genuine smiles and welcoming staff even through the busy morning. It has quite a buzz to it and kid friendly as well.

The coffee is decent, hard to compete with all the coffee stores doing great coffee. There is an ample section for breakfast, like a whole page fill!
It covers a range of appetites.
The food portions are more than generous and tasted good. It’s homely food, with a bakery that sells out quickly. And the smell of fresh bread, croissants and a range of baked goods fills the air.
If your looking for trendy, this is not the place for you, the food and ambience is homely.

First Impressions
This bakery styled cafe situated off Beyers Naudé has a warm feeling when you enter it with friendly staff.

The Decor
This open plan bakery/cafe has the smell of freshly baked goods while you sit and sip your coffee. With its modern upmarket styling and comfy chairs for your family or the bar stools if you want to read the paper and sip a coffee.

The Menu
The menu has all sorts of dishes from breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, salads and much more to choose from. Anything you can expect from a cafe and more.

The Food Itself
I have been coming here for years and my go to meal is the signature sandwich the Roma. This has grilled chicken, avo, parmesan cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and a dash of sweet chili sauce on a choice of breads which I usually choose the French baguette. Delicious and definitely worth trying.

Final Thoughts
This in my opinion is still the best cafe in Johannesburg and if you haven’t tried it you should definitely give it a go. With friendly staff and great food you can’t go wrong.
Jenn Greenwood
Such a lovely little place.
For starters the minute you walk in it smells so delicious.
One of the very few places that serve holicks.
The staff are lovely.
The food is amazing and served aesthetically.
Anny
I’ve never been here that it hasn’t been really busy, but that’s part of the charm. Loads of people come here for their breakfasts for a reason. The service is always friendly even if it isn’t the fastest (but also bare in mind that each waitron has to serve loads of tables at a time). I’ve never had a meal here that I didn’t enjoy. They’re always happy to substitute components of the meal to accommodate me being vegetarian- at no extra charge. They could do with a better coffee (being a coffee bake and all) but it’s really not the end of the world.
Pieter
Olivia’s
Lasting impression, busy , but average, nothing to write home about

Food average, nothing exceptional, no wow
Service slow, average
Setting another street cafe in the neighborhood

Visit again ?, not sure why ?
Gareth
Love the waitresses and waiters here. So friendly.

The food is pretty good. The only issue I have is that the quality of the food used to be great and has reduced in the past couple of years.

Still a nice outing and I am a regular.

Would be great if they got rid if the smoking section that is outside. Walking in you're walking through smoke and you can't sit outside and enjoy the sunshine due to all the smoke.

I went there on a Thursday morning at about 1030 after dping some shopping. As i had my laptop with me, I decided to go in for a coffee and do some work. They have a nice table designed for this purpose allowing you to charge your laptop and work - so practical. I ordered lamb mint for 75 rands - truly amazing. The place is quite busy. The owner is cool. Highly recommended. ✌

Wanted to visit but always busy so got there early on a cold morning and was not disappointed , nice atmosphere and quite creative breakfast menu which forced me out of my comfort zone for my "normal order" also some nice lunch options , normally like americano with cold milk but their coffee ultra strong and not enjoyable, not sure if I am the only one with this view ? Maybe management need to check their blend ? ☕️
Nicole Kayley Langsford
Absolutely love Olivia's. Their breakfasts are delicious and there's a wide variety of options. The croissants are to die for, especially the chocolate. Their cakes always look delicious and their shelves are never empty. The service can be a little slow when they get busy, but that's to be expected. The staff are all very friendly, polite and helpful.

Right next to Impala so this is a perfect Saturday morning farmstall 'like' experience as I get to buy my meat at Impala butchery, but veggies at Impala veggies and some booze the naughty shop then have a big fat breakfast at Olivia's before I head back home having replenished home supplies. Great location and good food. Even have a flower shop next door.

A lot of lycra on the weekend as it is a popular spot for cyclists .. but I usually pop in with friends for coffee and every time have the toasted chelsea bun - I can't help myself - it always takes me back to our tuck shop school days. They are delicious dripping in butter and so not good for one's waistline but together with coffee it is a worthy treat ! Love them .. and find myself looking for reasons to visit the centre for a quick catch up and it isn't usually busy morning / afternoon tea time mid-week and if I'm alone it gives me time to sit in the sunshine for a little while. It can get a little noisy with cars and trucks and people as the centre is always busy but not unbearable.
Rina
Olivia's used to be super special but the quality of their coffee is a bit shocking now as the blend really taste burned and I did not even finish it! They should also think of reinventing their menu
Tersia Booyzen
A favourite brunch spot over weekends or having coffee with friends during the week. Relax, tasty food cooked while you're waiting at reasonable prices, added to that is friendly and efficient service 😊
Victoria Modise
Despite living in the area and passing by this restaurant regularly, last week was the first time that we actually decided to have a meal here. We were a large table and they seated us upstairs. It was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle downstairs but the service was slightly lacking with waiters having to come up and down repeatedly. I ordered a tramezzini and chips. It was very nice. And hubby had the Catania sandwich on a french baguette. Both delicious choices. Next time we'll be sure to have tea and cake from the delectable selection they have on offer.
Chris De Beer
Very busy shop . Especially on sat and sundays . The breakfast and brunch crowd luv's this place . Gud variety of meals that is well prepared . You can also take away a lot of the baked sweet goods . Their cronuts is awesome .
Jacques Wentzel
Went here for breakfast the other day and despite being super busy we still had good service. The classic breakfast was all around good and well.. classic. Can't complain about anything on the plate and overall good value for money. Good clean decor and feels very comfy. Would definitely come here more often .
Cuppycake
I absolutely love this place!
We came here this morning for a breakfast, I had my usual favourite which is the Cypriot breakfast which is scrambeled eggs with feta and black olives on rye bread with a homemade tomato relish.
The service was great even though the place was packed and the food is always tasty and fresh. I've never had a disappointing experience when coming here!
Taskeen Moolla
Nothing beats a delicious breakfast, friendly service and a breezy ambience. Absolutely loved Olivia's. I had scrambled eggs tossed with olives and feta on ciabatta- yummy combination- while my brekkie companion had the regal Benedict with salmon- also very yummy! Will definitely return soon
Kurt Baden Cairns
Not very comfortable when I see so many old men in way too tight tights, but that's my fault for arriving at 7 on a Saturday morning. Obviously cyclists love this place and who could blame them. Breakfast was amazing and crispy bacon done the way you did them only deserves applause. Great breakfast spot and great vibe. Loving your work Olivia's .... improve on the mushrooms and get and another point five...
Naomi De Carvalho
They do breakfast well! I love the salmon and scrambled eggs on croissant. The food is super tasty, the coffee is good and the servings are generous. Get there early as this is a popular spot.

So after debating where we should go for breakfast and viewing the 'Great Breakfasts' collection on Zomato. We decided to give this place a go

It's a cute and quaint restaurant that has quite a big menu. So big that it took quite a while to pick what to order. We eventually opted for the Italian and Louis Choice.
To drink I almost ordered a smoothie until they had told me that they use flavoured powder rather than fresh fruit, which is a bit odd considering there's a fruit and veg literally right next door.

The food was quite mediocre as it required quite a bit of salt, and the rye bread on the side was drenched in oil.

All in all, I probably wouldn't return

Having been to NYC, bagels was once upon a time my thing. But Olivias has brought bagels back.
Wonderfully set for a cup of coffee and a good book or a catchup session with the girls. Upstairs for privacy and downstairs to bask in the sun with a good chai latte -either way you'll feel hungry with the smell of freshly baked bread lingering in the air.
Waiters are good and food is amazing. Do give their bagels a try.
Megan Porter
As always, Olivias was pumping and turning tables at a great pace. Despite how busy it was the food was delicious and the service was good. This is always a winner for a brilliant cup of coffee and filling breakfast.

1 - The aesthetics and place itself. This has a perfect cafe styling with tables for families or if you just want to come read the paper and have a coffee by yourself. You have the aroma of baked bread and coffee in the air as well.

2 - The staff. Very friendly staff and they were always there checking up on us with a smile on their face. The owner is also a very great person who checks up on his customers and has a talk with them.

3 - The menu selection. There is a good selection of food and drinks to choose from on the menu and you can even get some cakes to go (those prices aren't on the menu though).

4 - The meal. I had a Roma sandwich on a French baguette with a side of salad. The food was amazing (as it always is at this cafe). Also the freshly squeezed orange juice was a great refreshment. The breakfast and papaya and yoghurt meals my guests had were also delicious I am told.

I go here very often because the experience is consistent and the food is always good which is a rare trait for an eating place in South Africa. I shall continue to come here every time I am in SA.

Really nice place ,gets filled up fast and is busy ,ordered a breakfast which was good and quite big so did not finish it all, lovely ambience
Zoe
I usually absolutely love this place because their food is always great and veggies are always fresh. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I decided to get takeaways from Olivia's. We ordered 2 club sandwiches, mine with mushroom instead of bacon, and my boyfriend had his with bacon. When we got home from fetching the food, all the bacon pieces on his sandwich were all raw. He had to then re-fry his bacon before he could carry on eating. Really disappointing

Tucked away in between fresh veg and fruit shops just off busy Bayers lys this piece of bliss. It so happened to be my sisters birthday and we arrived as a party of 8 on a public holiday morning, you can imagine how busy it was. Johnny(owner)and Nick(son) went out of their way to accommodate us! Making a plan to seat us all comfortably and going as far to offer myself a jacket as I was getting a bit cold. Their service stayed constant and their breakfasts are delicious! From a wide range of options throughout the menu there is somthing for everyone!!! We really had great service and a wonderful meal. Olivia's will be highly recommend by me to all friends and family. Thank you!
Sean Jackson
The finest coffee shop in Johannesburg. It's like coming home every Sunday. Consistently fabulous food and the best service in town. For the freshest and tastiest breakfasts. Coffee never lets you down and the vibe is always homely and friendly. Sunday's are never complete without a visit to Olivias.
Darren Baetu
Really bad milkshake and supposed rare roast beef sandwich, that was explained and ordered completely differently that how it arrived. I won't be back, ever!!
Tersea Gouws
@Olivias_Bakery Without a doubt the most delicious baklava cheesecake in Johannesburg - you were spot-on, Johnny :-). Must be the rose water.
HungryLamb
I visit Olivias most Sunday's for breakfast. Their portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Next door is the Impala fruit and veg centre which has the largest and meanest selection of fruit and veg at really cheap. The centre is well worth a visit if you don't know it already!

Olivias gets quite busy during the weekends but this doesn't take away from the restaurants ability to provide excellent service. Dishes still come out at an exceptionally fast rate and all the waiters are extremely well trained.

Food is beyond good! Real wholesome and hearty dishes. My absolute favorite are their croissants. So yummy you could probably eat ten! Their coffees are exceptional as well. Olivias also has a bakery section which you can purchase fresh breads and various baked goods.

Parking can be quite a nightmare sometimes as the centre can get very busy during peak times due to the popularity of the fruit and veg centre, flower shop and of course Olivias!
Went to Olivias on Saturday morning on Easter weekend. It was busy. We ordered coffees and a red latte. No soy milk option available. And then we waited. And waited. Finally our drinks came n we were able to order breakfast. Drinks were long gone by the time the waitress came back to us. We ordered the Royal Croissant w scrambled egg and smoked salmon. After what felt like forever the waitress came to inform us that there were no more croissants so we'll have to have a panini instead. The bread was fresh, but the salmon was ice cold out the fridge, with scrambled egg on top that kept rolling off the plate. The dish was dry and the egg was cold because it was put on top of cold salmon. Disappointing. Iur friend ordered the haloumi wrap w spinach inside. Turned out the spinach was cooked and warm when put in the wrap, which ruined the tzatziki inside. Haloumi spinach and tzatziki sounds like a cold summery wrap. Tzatziki is not meant to be consumed warm right? Overall the wrap was a bit tasteless and the textures not satisfying. I don't mind waiting that much, as long as the food is good, but this was meh.
Sweet Tooth
I had the red velvet and cheese cake. The marshmallow topping is delightful and the cheese cake mouthwatering but the red velvet is quite disappointing, the bicarbonate aftertaste is heavy . Overall was an ok experience .
TerseaG
Oh. Wow. The baklava cheesecake... to die for. Picked up 1000kg, no doubt, but 150% worth it. Chicken breasts, coffee, fillet - all delicious ☺
Jack & Jill
Went for breakfast with a friend who suggested this place I didn't know was there even though I drove past it a zillion times. Getting a parking spot was the only issue after that it was all just fabulous. Loved the place the breakfast was hearty and delicious as was the coffee. Definitely will be going back.
😊😊😊 - ambience
😊😊😊 - service
😊😊😊 - food

I do have a fondness for a good breakfast after a morning swim. Olivias did not disappoint. Crispy bacon, fresh toast (not the usual hard as nails pressed flat barely brown slice that some establishments consider acceptable) and perfectly done eggs. Great cappuccino albeit in a cup that is way too small...

Nice touch to have all of the daily papers available to peruse..makes you feel rather on top of what's happening in the world..and it beats pawing through last month's well thumbed Huisgenoot.
Alister Hay
Part of the group Mark mentioned earlier. We went back again on Saturday and probably a bit of a let down compared to first impressions. Still worth another visit later. Service reasonable, food nicely presented and good value for loot. No pressure to move us on although we probably overstayed our welcome
Alastair Botes
Sunday morning breakfast for two at Olivia's was a great!

Greeted with a friendly smile and some jokes and quickly arranged a table for us.

Service was friendly and prompt and the food very nice.

Nice selection of breakfast and other healthy meals on the menu.

Good all round!
Amy Heydenrych
Us Joburgers are big on brunch, and while many popular brunch spots deliver on a great vibe, their menus are often the same rotation of rich, buttery, eggy dishes. I adore Olivia's for it's extensive breakfast menu, especially The Veggie, which is an awesome egg-free option for vegetarians (and can easily be made vegan by removing the haloumi) . It's a completely unpretentious spot, with great food and an awesome bakery. It's homely setting has been the background to many great memories for my husband and I, and many more to come.
Ebeth
What a pleasant experience!
This was my first time at Olivia's and it will most certainly not be the last! We had a great breakfast there!
Loved the vibe, the look! The service was good and the food was wonderful!
Nads
- Great vibe and location.
- We had breakfast and the meal took 45 minutes to arrive.
- There's variety of breakfast to pick from.
- Prices of most meals are great.
Isabella Leslie-Miller
Really lovely cafe. The ambiance is great, there are lots of well priced menu items and the food is good. There is also a fruit market and flower shop next door which makes the whole cafe smell really good.
Aruna Mohan
As Indulgence Cafe was closed we ended up here for breakfast on Sunday morning.
The place was busy and had a very european vibe. The outdoor, indoor and upstairs seating all combined well into one buzzy, but not loud, space.
I t was difficult to choose between all the interesting dishes on the menu but I went for one of the sandwiches and enjoyed it very much. Fresh ingredients and the combination was well put together. My partner also enjoyed his more traditional breakfast. Service was pleasant and efficient despite it being so busy.
We will definitely be back to try some of the other things on offer.
Maxwell Gauld
Met a friend here after he had suggested this place. Must say I do have a weakness for any eatery that boasts a bakery as part of the establishment.

Ambience = 4. The place leaves one with a nostalgic feeling of sorts. Quite refreshing, although I must admit it's for the quite "matured" crowd...

Food = 3. The menu is quite extensive and very well priced, with quite catchy dishes from my observation. Decided to go with Chourico salad - served with greens, chicken livers, rosa tomatoes, feta cheese and pita bread - not quite something to write home about.

Service = 3. Service is okay - that service which is just present but not wow!
Rachel
I have tried many a time to give this place a chance. But I find that every time I go there, I'm just really annoyed and disappointed in the food. A few days ago I tried Olivia's again and ordered the Raz (it's muesli, yoghurt, berries, nuts and honey). Besides the fact that there was no honey, and although the waiter said he would bring 'sauces', none ever arrived. The biggest problem was the "berries" part. It's absolutely ridiculous that if you order a breakfast with "berries" that a paltry 7 pieces of STRAWBERRY (nothing else) is delivered to you. It sounds like such a small thing, but why falsely advertise? Honestly? Other times I've been here, my food has been off, or it has tasted disgusting and faaaaar too salty (Katie's Frenchie - don't try).

Anyway, I'm officially done :')
Nicola Veitch
Olivia's has been a family favourite for Sunday brekkie since childhood. Throughout the years it has remained consistently delish!
It always smells Devine thanks to their freshly baked breads and is conveniently located next to a butcher and a veggie store. A Weekly shop and lovely meal all in one. Absolute winner!
Carole Craggs
Olivia's serves great coffee and delicious breakfasts. I've been there a couple of times and have enjoyed every meal. The service is good too, always friendly.
Nicci 🌟
Great breakfasts each and every time 🌝 always have the same thing but it's always good. My husband had the eggs benedict royal was unbelievable! Fresh baked bread and bakery awesome location!
Mariska Meyer
The service was a little slow but the food was worth the wait.
Decor is very good makes a small space look open and fresh.
We will definitely go again
LuluFromJozi
Olivias is always packed and thats a good thing. Fresh ingredients are their motto and with Impala Fruit and Veg right next door, they have anything available you need. Their cream is 100% cows milk dairy and awesome. Their Illy coffee out of this world. Staff always friendly and attentive. Booths upstairs a real treat. The owner outside always looks grumpy, but he might just have RBF. (Takes one to know one). I am a regular customer and go back all the time.
Mark Teichmann
We are a group of 5 guys who have breakfast every Saturday for 15 years now ! Olivia's must be in our top 5 places for breakfast. Reasons being good service and a decent size serving. Well prepared and as asked for . And the real good part of it all is the value !! Big Bang for your buck !
Theresa Offwood-le Roux
I had breakfast here on Sunday, what a lovely place. It is right on Beyer's Naude, but they have shielded the seating area from the sun and hence also from the road, so you don't really notice. It gets very full, so I suggest coming early. The menu is very long - lots of choice! And the prices are really reasonable. The coffee is good. I had the pawpaw breakfast with almonds, yogurt and honey. Simple but good and healthy! my friend had the Italian breakfast - it looked very nice! I would without hesitation go to Olivia's again.
Liza
This Is the best little place for breakfast. Comfortable setting both indoors or outdoors. They also have freshly baked biscuits, cakes, tarts. Coffee is great. Service can be slow.
Jeanette Raletooane
Very nice branch and the best hotdog ever! Nice menu with plenty options to choose from. A definate must try out and the best part... it has beautiful open space.
Debbie Kree
Very nice atmosphere, and spacious. Food was devine and very fresh, didn't take long. Service was good and friendly. Love the bakery attached so you can take some of Olivia's home with you. Prices were good, so will definitely go back.
Candice Richards
Best value for money yummy breakfast in jhb in my opinion. Always good. Excellent coffee. But go early as you WILL queue for a table. Which isn't actually a bad thing as you can just pop into Impala fruit and veg while you wait!
El Pistolero
It's not often that one can comment on great service first in a restaurant. Especially a "local" coffee shop and bakery. Somehow the staff here pull it off. Everyone is keen to look after you. I have been here in manic times and brunch and service is consistent.

Now the food. An extensive menu of mostly non traditional breakfast items leaves you stressed in a good way. My firm favorite or something unique to them? Come here to shake off your habits of eggs and toast or a Benedict. The smell of fresh baked goods helps you linger a little longer, constantly wondering if you can fit in a warm butter croissant with the 3rd half decent coffee coffee.

This is definitely a firm favorite for locals and it's a casual environment. Yet for those work horses or work-from-home people, there are plug points and free wifi to keep you going. Prices are reasonable.

My only problem with here? I haven't been for lunch. Maybe I'll stay another 4 hours.
Melinda
Incredible fresh bread selection not to mention that you can grab a mini old-school Coka Cola in glass. The restaurant is always busting on weekends and is great for early breakfasts.
Craig Wilson
Olivia's offers an incredibly varied and comprehensive breakfast menu and sells a wide selection of breads for the take-home crowd. I've yet to have a breakfast that wasn't excellent (and yet to have anything else, for that matter). For added reason to visit, Olivia's is sandwiched between Impala Meats and Impala Fruit & Veg, making it ideal for a quick bite or coffee before a little weekend shopping.
Taryska
I went to Olivias a few weeks back for brunch and had the french toast with blue cheese, bacon and fig preserve upon my aunt's recommendation. I love blue cheese everything and this dish delivered. YUM. Nice coffee shop vibe too.
Brooklyn J. Pakathi
Amazing view of northcliff when sitting on the upstairs deck and the food is wonderfully prepared, presented and tasty. Hearty meals and great atmosphere. A breakfast must.
Pepler La Cock
Really loved this place! The food menu is huge and I must say it was the best wrap that I have ever eaten! The only problem I would have to say is that the food take forever to be prepared and that I was starving at the time when I got it. And also a must try is the red velvet cupcakes it's sooo good!
Food Lover Deluxe
Great breakfast venue with attentive service and an extensive, well priced menu. One of the few places that cook the eggs the way you order them. Very popular and not always guaranteed to have an available table, but seldom a long wait and, bonus, one can while away the time at Impala florist or vegetable shop. I've only tried lunch time once and was not as impressed. Definitely a breakfast venue for me.
Gisele Engelbrecht
The best for an early morning hot chocolate - a lazy Sunday breakfast or an anytime snack - cakes, breads and croissants are unbeatable - service is great and the ambience unique
Dolls & Dan
This wonderful little spot is no secret! It's always full and with good reason, the service is great and the staff are so friendly. To top it off the menu is extensive and the food is delicious. The paninis are soft and fresh and everything else on the menu is great too. I would highly recommend the Melty breakfast, although I swapped out my English muffin for a croissant. The portions are generous and you can see all the yummy baked goods are made on the premises.

Perfect spot for breakfast or lunch!
Jenni Doyle Sutherland
I am a local that frequents Olivias weekly and it must be that some people can never be satisfied (based on the previous review) as it cannot be faulted. The food, service, atmosphere and free wi-Fi is a winner and i would recommend it to anyone! Keep up the awesomeness :)

Olivias Coffee Bake - We were really disappointed by a cake bought from the highly overrated bakery in Northcliff.
Worse Red Velvet Cake in Johannesburg. Highly disappointed ! Dry, Bicarbonate Smelling cake.

Stunning breakfast spot, and although has a view of a parking lot, the food takes your mind off it :) always freshly baked and warm. Large selection of BUTTERY croissants, and that's a big deal to me!! Generous, fairly priced portions.

One of my favourite breakfast places around, especially for the delicious eggs benedict regal (smoked salmon)! Most of the staff are friendly. The ladies who work behind the cake and bread counter are very grumpy and sour. I have never experienced a good encounter with them. They do not greet or serve with any sort of manners, however the manager and other staff make up for that disappointment. The food is lovely, the prices are affordable and the environment is wonderful.

Delicious freshly baked breads, including Portuguese potato bread and German rye. Lovely spot, located between two great vegetable and meat stores.

Best coffee shop to sit and work, watch cricket, enjoy the best espresso coffee in JHB and also the tastiest cakes in the north. Owners always present, will spend a few minutes to take an interest and make sure you are looked after. Highly recommend this as a morning work spot to start your day

The place to be...to get some fresh breakfast/ brunch in your belly! :)
Enjoyed our breakfast from Olivia's, with the fragrance of freshly baked bread in the background.
Though in my neighbourhood- I've only been here once before. Now that it is revamped, I think we had a good experience with the friendly management and the 'just what we needed' meal!
Quiet an array on the menu, a couple of unique options.
Try this place out when you want to get away from the usual, yet enjoy a buzzing atmosphere during your day time meal!

Newly renovated, this restaurant continues to deliver outstanding food and exceptional service. The menu is extensive and hearty, there are favorites and surprises. Best of all there is off-menu, it's easy enough to ask Johnny who will happily make it happen. The new bakery addition is wonderful, fresh baked goodies that are generous and tasty. This is a lovely place to make a regular drop in to.

This coffee shop is one of the best in Johannesburg. The coffee is amazing and the food warms your stomach up. The waiters know every customers favourites and are attentive. The managers are friendly and are at your service if anything is needed. The owner makes you feel at home and is always on the floor. There is a homely vibe and the fresh smell of baked goods draws you in and the cakes are to die for. Love this shop. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in the area.

Over crowded. Over priced. Over rated. It seems they have more customers than they can handle, so the service is a bit of just to "get you served and done with". Not that it's bad for a café, but not good enough.
Food is ok. Went there for the hyped croix-nuts and was disappointed. Not only are they over priced but the quality is shoddy. Too custardy and generic in taste. Coffee and breakfast is average. Maybe it's just a place to be seen in.

Nice place for simple breakfast, big portion sizes. Gets quite busy on weekends. Be advised that service can be painfully slow at times - waiters are still friendly and try their best. Lots of freshly baked goods and good selection of pastries. Great coffee too. Good choice for a simple breakfast before your weekend grocery shopping.

Always dissapointed when eating here, took forever with toast and a toasted samie, and actually messed up my anchovy toast, didn't want tomato on it, yet there it was???

Really exquisite coffee and the breakfast menu is good. But it's the really chilled, open, relaxed vibe there that makes you want to come back. We chose to make Olivia's our Parkrun coffee place (from Albert's Farm) so you will see a bunch of people fresh and lively every Saturday morning coming to replenish their muscles on a well deserved delectable meal and yummy cappuccino.

Olivia's is a lovely little spot. The food and service is just above average, but the location and vibe makes it a great place for breakfast or brunch! Definitely a place to go if you enjoy croissants!

Olivia's has been around for a long time. For some reason I always took it to be a bakery with a small cafe side. Wow was I wrong. Saturday mornings clearly are very busy at Olivia's. The trade from impala fruit and veg and the butchery next door all make Olivia's into a very vibey place to be. Service was good with a manager always keeping an eye on the floor. The menu is substantial and varied and judging from what I saw around me - I think all very nice. I had eggs Benedict which I must be honest as nice as they were ,Melissa's in Parkhurst was tastier. I think Olivia's is awesome and will be going back again

A neighbourhood favourite. Good service, wonderful atmosphere and good, home-style cooking. We've been to other neighbourhood coffee shops-believe me, there is no competition for Olivia's!
