Review Fishmonger Rosebank - Johannesburg

Mulisa Museri
Fishmonger completely supprised me, the Restaurant Is absolutely stunning from the inside, it feels like a Greek coastal restaurant. Service is top notch you are welcomed upon arrival by waiters who usher you to your table. And prepare you for your meal by placing napkins on you to protect your garments from the delicious seafood. My friend and I had dinner and did not go for the seafood boil but we enjoyed the sushi and wine, we had spicy livers as well which were awesome. Please go there if you want great food and and intimate dining experience.. 👌👌

Go here often, when I’m alone, with my family or friends. Mostly enjoy sitting outside, will probably move inside when the weather gets cooler. Seafood fresh and never a let-down. Sushi great, Chocolate Fondant a must have. Vibe great &exceptional service alwaysđŸ‘ŒđŸŸ Even though it’s a seafood restaurant the meat is amazing here as well.

Great vibe and very enjoyable food all round. Staff were excellent and gave us sufficient attention and kept our wine and water chilled on a hot evening. The quality of the fish and prawns seemed to be very good and the flavours were distinct - everyone enjoyed their meal. Very generous with the bread and sauce when we were seated as well.

Went for dinner with my friends. The service was lovely and the food was amazing! 👏

Good seafood place, I had it grilled and healthy, nice hot sauces. The seafood is fresh and testy. However, the grilled whole fish was overcooked. In case you go alone don't forget your smartphone, the atmosphere is a bit boring...

The food is amazing but very expensive. Service is excellent. Overall, a great experience.
Justine Abrahams
Enjoyed the dining experience, orders come out fast and service is great
Tshego Sebapu
Amazing experience, service and food. Reasonably priced food and wine. You'll love it! I had the crab hand roll as a starter and the lamb chops with Greek salad for my main. So delish!

Wow!! Great welcome by Reinios the Manager who picked us out of the wandering crowd as we had booked and it just got better, food is so good and a sensible but great menu so everything is fresh! Fair prices for what is Silver Service and frankly the best seafood experience that I have had World Wide in the last 12 months, baring in mind I have been on 50 flights in the last year to all corners of the world. Gibson was our waiter and super charming, professional and friendly and Reinios came over to check all was good. Now my number one fish restaurant globally!!
Taniya Mandal
Good food with friendly vibe. A bit expensive, but the best hangout place for fish lovers in the Rosebank mall area. Little inside from the main road. They have both indoor and outdoor sitting arrangements. Wide range of fish items from Sushi to Indian prawn curry.

We only ordered dessert and so I can't comment on the food. However, although the service was good in terms of how fast we were served, it was disappointing that they didn't have most dessert items available on the menu and it was a Friday night. The desserts that we did order were pretty good (very standard, not spectacular). What brings this rating down was how pushing the waitor was in terms of drinks. We order some drinks but he persistently tried to get us to order more. I understand the need to increase his tip etc but it was a bit too far

We had a business lunch. Food was good (4 star) but service was poor (2 stars), hence a 3 star rating. Waiter was nowhere. Not when we wanted to order drinks, order food, or the coffee or the bill. we waited long for everything, creating those uncomfortable moments when people want to get on with their days but a 60 minute business meeting turns into a 90 minute waiting ordeal.

Recently went to fishmonger and I must say I was really impressed, the staff was amazing the food was absolutely delicious....decor was decent and the ambiance wasn’t bad at all!

Wow what a brilliant spot to have a lovely meal. Waiters are so nice and helpful and attentive. We ordered the grilled squid heads as a starter which was delicious! Then we had the paella main as well as sushi, both excellent, the paella is a very generous portion size and loaded with seafood! Will be back for the paella a dozen times I can guarantee because it’s not easy to find a restuarant that makes one as good as this! Keep it up!

Acceptable service and tasty seafood. Our very first experience at Fishmonger was very pleasant and the food was really good. We enjoyed the Fishmonger seafood platter.

We had our team year-end lunch here on a very hot Friday afternoon. The restaurant was packed inside and out and the waiting staff were kept very busy. It was very noisy.

We were a table of 9 and the service was mostly efficient, although we had to remind them about outstanding drinks orders a few times. Even though I stated “no lemon” - the water arrived with lemon every time...

The food was fabulous! And the portions were ridiculously large. In fact, after the Halloumi starter, I battled to make a dent in my calamari, even though it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Everyone at the table rated their food very highly.

The frozen margaritas were a little disappointing as they seemed to have been made with a premix, but they were nice and cool in an otherwise hot environment.

I would like to come back here again on a normal trading day when it is a lot less hectic. The prawns looked awesome and I had serious FOMO.
If you’re look for impeccable seafood, service and taste! This is the place to be . I’ve been here so many times and I’ve never been disappointed. I love how big the portions are and the platter for 2 is my fave ♄

😍Love love love!

Another delicious meal at this fine dining restaurant. Good service, welcoming waitrons and lovely ambiance! Had to ask for a finger bowl for my prawns, though!
Gabriella Rosen
Delicious food and drinks especially for my likes of fish except sushi. Otherwise nice people who serve but wish the restaurant could be bigger and served quick but good.

If you come here- ask for Ocean
Super attentive and we came on the 7 year special which was epic! 7 king prawns food r R177 which is usually R390. We know a deal when we see one! Thank you

It’s a cool place in Rosebank definitely, the music & the ambiance nice. Concerning the food, I ordered for starters lobster bisque, garlic snails & squid heads the first two were above average but to try once the squid heads were perfectly done & one of my straightforward dishes. My main course was the Sushi which was below par. Not bad for a restaurant but wouldn't really recommend.
Kgothatso
Platter for 2 is amazing, enough food for 3 ladies. They also have nice baked pie fish items. Nice atmosphere and service. They gave us this ice cream in a wine glass, which I assume is a palette cleanser

I’m not quite the sea food person; so when I say seafood is good, believe me, it’s good. And if you’re like me and have friends who want dinner at a sea food restaurant, and you don’t want seafood, well there’s a little variety that won’t force you to have fish. Let’s start with the ambiance; from the moment you walk in, the environment tells you, you’re about to have a good time. Add to that a friendly waiter who makes it his business to make sure you’re happy. The food is out of this world (you have to experience it yourself). The cherry on top, is the palate cleanser; where you’d usually get mints wrapped in your bill, Fishmonger gives you frozen yoghurt - I’m not a mints person, so I particularly appreciate this unique gesture - call it a “on the House” dessert.

We have visited this restaurant quite a bit and received superb service and delicious food every time. Their Beira prawns and Prawns Nationale are our absolute favourite. Waiters are friendly and on top of their game and management has, on more than 1 occasion, brought us a palate cleansing sorbet (free of charge) in between our courses.

A place set up for a fine dining experience, had quite an enjoyable time here. The wine menu is extensive and vast - great choices. They are a bit pricy but I suppose its all part of the setting and service.I enjoyed the sushi here very much and it was presented and served with care. The combinations of flavours were the clear highlight and this is place to visit for a seafood craving :)
Gerhardt Van Niekerk
Service? really not good. Food.. ok. The owner/manager seams to be very motivated to deliver great food and service however.. devil is in the details.. Sorry - its a miss.
Hulie Malie
First of all, the fish odour when you passing by isn't pleasant at all. However, the inside smells nothing like fish, which is great!

Asked their waiter what i should have and he chose this amazing hake and prawns for me with a side of spinach and potatoes and pumpkin. WOW! I was extremely impressed. The presentation needs a bit of work but the burst of flavours, WOW WOW WOW! Totally worth visiting again!

As for the red wine and fish, I'm personally not fond of white wine đŸ€ŠđŸŸâ€â™€ïž_ and also, that one, WEEEENT IIIIIIIIIIINNNNNN đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ˜đŸ™ŒđŸŸđŸ™ŒđŸŸđŸ™ŒđŸŸđŸ™ŒđŸŸ

Came here with a large group of friends for dinner.Overall the service was friendly and efficient for a large group .I had a greek salad with microherbs which was nice and the rest of group enjoyed their meals

Good location, well run spot normally won't let you down. Quite franchise like (you always get the same), good for fairly priced, good seafood. They usually have a "fish of the day" special that is fresh and really good. The wine list is mainstream (most of the usual favourites are on the wine list). Generally the staff are well trained although I have had a couple of mishaps recently (language/ not listening?) so have had to return dishes a couple of times. generally a good offering, especially if you are in a hurry and don't have time to travel too far. Good sushi too.
Mbali Msimang
To be quite honest I wasn't very pleased with the restaurant choice at first but I'm so glad my company persisted, I was quite wrong.

I had the trout, someone ordered the the stuffed kingclip and another orders snapper. I tasted all 3 and couldn't fault a single one on the table, all the fish was cooked to perfection.

My side dish (potatoes) was unexpectedly bland though but all I did was swop them in for sweet potatoes and it made for a stunning meal.
Rigard & Jeanine
Our favorite seafood restaurant in Johannesburg. Wonderful service. Good selection of meals of a high standard. Popular so be sure to make a reservation. Ideal place for a lunch as well.

This fishmonger is located in the FIRS, alongside many other restaurants which gives it a great atmosphere.
Inside it is well decorated.
The sushi is fresh and of good quality.
The fish is always well cooked and seasoned and makes for a lovely dinner experience.
Not the best place for cocktails, however their cocktails aren't bad.
Ismail Moola
Love coming here. Yummy food as always. Everything is consistent and tasty with really good ingredients. Staff are receptive to small children as well( at least for lunch,) I will be back soon. The new menu with addition of the Malaysian prawn is a welcome change. Miss the seared salmon with soy and honey though

Six of us had a great family supper at The Fishmonger Illovo. Great food, attentive service, lovely wine by the glass, and the best prawns I've had for years. Not cheap, but a memorable evening.
David Wolpert
Surprisingly disappointing. Large restaurant with great setting.
We ordered a Greek salad to share. It was very good but pricey at R85 for a relatively small dish.
Then came two "medium "soles .
My wife's was fine but on the small side.
Mine was minute and definitely not medium.
It was also tasteless.
Pointing this out to the waiter elicited an apology but nothing further. There was no visible maitre'd to speak to.
Sadly,I will not return although I am a fan of the Fishmonger group.
Greg Wilson
Venue is good having an outside seating location. Service is attentive and professional. The actual food was the let down, had a platter, prawns and sole were over cooked, chips undercooked. Disappointing especially as their pricing sets an expectation of excellence.

First time to this particular branch. Love the location and how I feel like I'm not even Johannesburg when I'm at The Firs. Had a lunch date with my mom, our waiter was Mbuso and he was 11 out of 10 in terms of service and personality. The food really quick I wasn't even done with the break basket which was fresh and warm and all things great. We ordered the Prawn and calamari combo was consisted of 5 queen prawns and calamari. I also had a virgin strawberry daiquiri. All the waiters were really friendly and were quick to clear our table. I also had a peppermint dessert which was everything omw that was delicious. Will definitely recommend this place

I cannot fault this restaurant at all. The waiter was fantastic and very attentive. We all received our meals in good time and we were all very satisfied with the our choices. Everything was fresh and very tasty.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I will definitely be back for more.
Totally awesome đŸ‘đŸŒ

This is probably one of my favourite seafood places in gauteng. I love the variety they have to offer as well as the innovative ways the cook and present the dishes. The stuff kingklip I would say is one of my favourite dishes, stuffed with tomato onion and baked in an oven to perfection. It's succulent juicy and full of flavour. Just writing about it makes my mouth watering.

Staff is super friendly and if you making your way there for Sunday lunch make sure you reserve a table. This place gets very busy. Great seafood.

Good lunch we had today at FishMongerRosebank .. Service was excellent ..
Took my Chinese friends with my sis for a treat they loved it ..
The only issue I had was with their Red Snapper , it was NOT FRESH couldn't even finish it . Usually that's their best fish and certainly my fav in the Nicole way branch that I frequent ....
Efficient service for lunch ...
What a delicious way to start the weekend! We went to Fishmonger on Friday for lunch.

I feel the complimentary bread sets the tone for the rest of your lunch/dinner. And how delicious were those. The one guy actually asked for more right after he finished his starter.

For starters we had the Lobster Bisque, Oysters and Squid Heads. Finished everything and couldn't wait for our mains.

For our mains we had Lobster, Line fish, and the Calamari trio. Can't believe I forgot to take pictures. The food presentation and portion sizes- just perfect.
I tasted everything and my only complaint, is the fried calamari tasted a bit too much like a fast food restaurants' calamari and overall they can add more flavours to the calamari.

For dessert I had the creme brûlée. The best way to finish. The test of a good crÚme brûlée is a creamy interior and a hard caramel shell. The consistency is really what makes it, or what doesn't make it in some cases. They passed the crÚme brûlée test with flying colours.

The staff were professional, quick and well informed. Only issue with regards to the staff is that you can see they have a tactic of persuading you to order more and more. It's irritating. Also, we initially went to have lunch at another restaurant but they literally pushed us in when we walked past the restaurant. It's just a bit too much.

This restaurant deserves a 4 but it loses points for the sushi, which wasn't fabulous tonight. But otherwise, the (cooked) food here is consistently good and the service excellent.
The Cajun style kingklip was nice enough. A Greek side salad was especially fresh, crispy and delicious.
I still prefer the nearby Illovo branch though. There, you not only get the Portuguese complementary rolls to start but also sometimes fried halloumi cheese and an Italian kiss or a frozen yoghurt to end. The Rosebank branch has a pleasant outside seating area which looks out into a piazza with a fountain but the ambience is better in Illovo - it's busier - and the service somehow slicker.
Sam
I have visited the Illovo branch and thought it was just okay but this fares worse of than that. Definitely visit the Illovo branch rather.

The decor was very generic and unmemorable. To start we had complimentary Portuguese rolls. Not my favorite as the flour always goes everywhere.

Firstly the food is expensive so I expect a high standard. Our food was served cold, only slightly warm. There are no lemon butter or garlic sauces, only chilli sauce. Perhaps you order this separately but this was never pointed out by the waiter. The prawns were not fully cooked, and were very bland. The calamari rubbery and overpowered by the dry Cajun spice. The hake was bland and not appetizing. You can seriously get better hake at Ocean Basket. There is also no point in paying more for the queen prawns and they are the practically the same size as the medium ones.

At R500 for just mains for two people this was not a meal worth its price. First and last time I will be eating there.

Ove
Met a couple people for a business meeting & had their halloumi salad as a starter, it was good, nothing spectacular & their salmon main. Yip, sigh. Maybe I'm too picky but for those prices it certainly was NOT worth it.
Mike Rosholt
Appallingly slow service today. Firm favorite and we come a lot. Not sure what happened but 40 minutes for a platter, with two little kids in tow, is simply unacceptable. Management usual story "it's coming" but for 20 minutes now. Very poor and as I type we are still waiting.
Carla15
I was invited to a dinner at the Fishmonger. It was my first time there and I really enjoyed it! It was quite pumping for a Wednesday night and the all white decor is simplistic and stylish. Our waiter was an absolute delight and the service was efficient and friendly. I had sushi which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be back.

This branch always serves amazing fish and has excellent service. I love their kingklip thermidor and their sushi menu is fantastic. Love the atmosphere on the square. The food is reasonably priced. An enjoyable night out!
Wessel Van Wyk
As I'm sitting here, waiting for our dishes to be cleared more then 10 minutes after finishing our food-I can't help but fighting the urge to take it to the kitchen myself. The food itself is of good standard and have enjoyed this restaurant's friendly vibe many time before. But my oh my, has the service fallen short this evening. For an establishment with so many SQ items and "when available" items on their menu- how does one warrant not taking tour guests through the basic info they would need to make an informed meal choice. Please STEP IT UP to the levels it's been before!
Palesa Moahloli
Well for a good Saturday night, with family and friends. We were well fed and I must say I LOVE their Kingklip Thermidorâ€ïžđŸŽ‰
Thank you for a lovely nightđŸ·

We made a reservation for a friend birthday and it was a great night we had. I ordered the grilled trout almondine, it was exquisite. The service was superb and by the end of the night, we were not rushed to leave as were the last patrons to leave the place.
Stefan Janssens
In general not a bad experience. The service by our waiter was quite friendly, but I must admit that I find the Fishmonger situated @ Thrupps to be better. I had a combo of Calamari, sole and queen prawns. Pricey, but average tasting. The location is great though. One thing did irritate me: if your guest is still busy eating prawns, please don't remove the side plate (where empty shells are placed) - and then completely ignore the table afterwards (not the waiter, but one of the managers did this, in passing). This is extremely rude. I would truly hesitate to return here.
Nicola Slyper
We had a lovely end of year meal here. The service was good and friendly.

We had some sushi, oysters and seafood risotto. The oysters were surprisingly decently priced and the sushi was amazing. The seafood risotto was fine, not the best part of our meal. It was a lovely evening.
Carly Sutton
Had a fantastic time there as always. Fish quality is some of the best I have ever had and service impeccable. Ask to be served by Khosie, she is amazing! Ambiance in the evening is lovely with the current weather if you are lucky enough to get a table outside close to the fountains
Claire Frost
You always get good service here and the managers are very hands-on. Love the table rolls. Beautiful oysters. Most delicious squid heads fried or grilled (really perfectly cooked) - it's a pity the mayo couldn't be more special as it's really not great. Great prawns and calamari. Sushi is always fresh, but this time the rice was over-cooked and a bit stodgy. I find it very pricey, but perhaps that's to be expected with seafood.
Yasmin
This restaurant is always full whenever I go and I understand why each time. They have a wide selection of seafood and everything is always very tasteful and well presented! Always happy to go back!
Stephanie Courtnage
Last night I visited Fishmonger for dinner with a large group of friends. Overall the dinner was a bit disappointing. Although the portions are generous, I feel as though the restaurant is a bit pricey for what you get.

For my main I ordered the medium prawn dish with chips. The prawns were slightly tough, although the flavouring was decent. Harry and Daniel had a pasta dish that was exceptionally bland. None of the dishes really stood out as being particularly impressive.

On a positive note, the service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and very diligently went through all the specials for us.
Jarred Michael Bell
This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Joburg. We go often and everyone, we have had a great experience. The staff are always attentive and the seafood very fresh. Seafood Chains like Ocean Basket may offer convenience, but Fishmonger offers good quality seafood. Wine list is also not too bad
Styleandtravel -
Great place to get your seafood fix! Ambiance is nice especially at night. Get a table outside on a warm night. Good atmosphere! Food is fresh. Ordered the baked red snapper with vegetables. Beautiful flavors! Fishmonger
Rishi Kasiram
Visited this place on Saturday and I must say the food was really great. The service was also good. Nothing negative to really say about this Restaurant , I will definitely be back!

Had a great meal here last night. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and everyone left stuffed! Portion sizes are generous and our waitron was very attentive.Claire Berry Melissa Press

Just had a wonderful lunch here. Had the prawn and squid head platter with veg. Absolutely divine!! There was live music in the square and the service was excellent. The plates with prawn shells were cleared quickly and the waitress, Connie, brought a bag for our left over wine...gasp. We also received complimentary Italian kisses. It is these small details that really sets restaurants apart.
Sharima Bramannan
Like all the restaurants in this vicinity, the ambience is awesome. However I find the fishmonger a bit pricy. Had the prawns which were good...but not value for more.
Zuko Nkumanda
What a disaster! Worst sushi & even worse service. It's like they're not aware of expected traffic & no clue what to do when volumes increase. Awful experience. Never again!
Dani
It okay here
I just think that a few of the staff could have a bit more training
It also smells very fishy inside (I know it's a fish restaurant but u don't want to smell what I'm eating)
Illovo one is much better
Andrea Van Wyk
This Fishmonger is situated in the lovely open square at The Firs Shopping Centre. The vibe is relaxed and easy. The oyster are a fresh and cool starter in summer. There are a number of fish and seafood dishes though I lean towards combos so you can have a taste of everything. The prawn and calamari combo was a winner. And we had a lovely free strawberry sorbet palette cleanser that replaced dessert.
Gugu McLaren
Generally a nice enjoyable place. I had the trout with almonds in butter which was delicious. I like the ambience and location in Rosebank, and we were treated to a thunderstorm.
However, our waiter, Thembalani was grumpy and unpleasant. Left a bad taste after an otherwise alright evening.
No Time To Waste
Maybe I had too high hopes for this place.
I had oysters to start with and my goodness, they were the worst I have ever had... Not fresh at all and chewy! I didn't even finish.

And some sort of line fish I had was flavorless. The manager and waitstaff were very attentive and polite. But the food was mediocre and lighting a bit too bright. Not a fan!
Geraldine
Probably the worst seafood I've ever eaten. Was expecting a lot more for the prices they charge.

We ordered the squid head and sushi to start. The squid was bizarre - we got grilled baby squid heads just toppled onto a plate without a dipping sauce or anything to compliment the dish! And the sushi is some of the worst I have ever eaten - extremely stodgy and poorly made - they should not offer sushi at all!

For mains we ordered the paella and baked pangasius. The paella was also just bizarre! Served in foil on a plate floating in oil - the seafood in it over-cooked and flavorless - I question whether it was fresh made to order as it was cold when it reach our table! As for the baked fish, it was so rich - too much butter/oil and poorly seasoned.

This was probably one of our worst dining experiences and I certainly won't be going back there. It was a total waste of money!
Sally Guthrie
Nice ambiance. Really tasty food and I shall certainly be visiting again soon. Slightly chilly but I think that was expected because of the very cold weather.
Tom
Terrible food. Had a sole that tasted like old socks. Complained about it t
o the waiter and was laughed at. Waste of money. Much better options available than this place.
Adrian Ciesielski
The stuffed kingklip is something out of this world, it is so bloody good and filling too. Myself and Nokuthula Vezi enjoyed an afternoon here after a hard day and we were not disappointed

The service was also really good to the point where the chef asked if the portions were good enough! A must, seriously, treat yourself
Natasha Sokolsky
What a fantastic evening at the Fishmonger. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. The Fishmonger is definitely the best fish restaurant in Joburg.
Ashley Truscott
One of the best seafood restaurants in Johannesburg. Delicious prawns, attentive service, lovely to sit outside on a warm evening. Will be back.
Vishal Mistry
Some friends and I went to Fishmonger, Rosebank, after work to catch up. I ordered the Line Fish El Greco which in certain parts was over cooked and other were perfect. But the major issue is the attentiveness of our waiter
Blasian Princess
Staff is super attentive and friendly. Food was served in good time even though it was a busy night. The experience was well worth the price
Cheryl Ndoro
We were greeted by friendly staff upon arrival. The primary purpose of dining there was to engage in business talk, which we managed to do in a conducive environment. Although it is a sea food restaurant, there is a variety of other meals customers can choose from. I had the ostrich fillet which was well complemented by the chardonnay we ordered.

The chocolate on a stick with the ice cream centre provided when you leave is a nice touch.
Stuninho
I work within walking distance and this is always a decent offering. The service is good although the prices are a tad high and there are limited meat dishes.
Philip Goosen
You know that this place use only the freshest fish. Had beautifull salman shasimi for starters, the quality was amazing. For mains i had the trout which was perfectly prepared in a hazelnut butter sauce. Great seafood place to visit
Steven Odendaal
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the service, quality and all round experience at the Fishmonger RoseBank! The sushi was fantastic and now we await the main course ?.
Shane De Lange
Baffles me, what is accepted as sushi in Johannesburg. This is appalling. The flavor, texture, and quality of the rice alone is mediocre. A joke, under cooked and too much vinegar. Ordered Futo Maki and got this, which is essentially a very small portion of ordinary salmon maki? The Inari sushi was okay, but one could get far better at a run-of-the-mill Thai-owned sushi restaurant with locally sourced chefs. Wine list is average, but you will find yourself paying R70 for a glass of the Pinot Noir/Chardonay Burgundy style blend from Haute Cabriere? Walked out spending R200 bucks for something that could be bettered by any corner Chinese restaurant in town at half the price (and one would get real Futo maki). This place is overpriced and overrated serving sub-standard sushi. Yet another spot in Johannesburg for people with a lot of money to spend, but they simply don't know better.
Mologadi
I did not enjoy the food at all. I regretted going there. I had the jalapeño steak, medium rare but it was so tough and had little to no flavour. It could just be my taste buds though because my friend who recommended it to me could not stop raving about the food and the service
Byron Goldberg
Food is good. It doesn't beat the fishmonger in Illovo but it's still worthwhile going.
It's weird but the prices at Rosebank are lower than Illovo. They also serve ribs here, however they are purchased from Pick n Pay (Those pre-cooked pre-marinated ones) which is terrible for a restaurant to do. Even though they're not a steak house, you don't do that, brings down your class.
Matthew Craig Geldenhuys
R200 for 2? Maybe if you are eating from the kids menu. Be prepared to part with at least R200 per person for various versions of fish and chips.
Moey Esmael
With out doubt one of the best restaurants I've been to, staff service is second to none as well. A little bit pricey but worth every rand.
St. John Leech
The service was outstanding, but the food disappointing. The lobster bisque lacked the distinct flavour of lobster and tasted more like a vegetable soup and the roquefort salad was mostly raw onion, lettuce and bottled blue cheese dressing with only a sniff of pear. The squid head starter however was a generous portion and very tasty. The fish goujons were also tasty but not spectacular. Wine list was sufficient but only one beer on tap. The service, as mentioned above, was fantastic and we would return if for that alone.

Sunday lunch, always a relaxing experience and a time to prepare the mind and pace for the week ahead. My husband and myself ordered the wild oysters, for starters which were amazing. For mains he ordered the baby kingklip, with boiled potatoes, which was soft and grilled to perfection. I went for the prawn National, with fries, which was a little disappointing. The sauce was way too liquid and the chef could have added a touch more spice to meet the required flavor. The fries did not meet the expected standard. We have dined there before and my experience this time is what resulted in me scoring so low. You only as good as your last meal!
Nabila
This restaurant is nicely located in the courtyard with loads of outdoor seating which is fantastic on warmer evenings. The decor could do with some refreshing in the near future. Initially we were shown to a table just under the speakers which ordinarily would be fine but on that day the music was particularly loud so we had to be asked to change tables. The food portions were quite large and the food fresh and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the paella which was had lots of extra gravy and was quite flavourful. The trout had a lovely subtle flavour but my husband was slightly put off as he hadn't expected his supper to still have a head. The sole was also beautifully flavoured and cooked and the calamari was lovely but rich. The Sushi was average and there wasn't much in the way of vegetarian options. Overall the service was good and the meal hearty.

Once again as soon as staff see you have a child with you, you are given the odd table in the corner where you cant 'disrupt' any other patrons. I have been disrupted more by grownups having to much to drink in a restaurant than children.

I ordered oysters, 12 of them. When I got them they were not loosened from the shell so I had to struggle my way through them. I hate having to work for my food. I think it is a nice touch to loosen the oysters before sending them out as the kitchen staff have the right equipment to do so.

I also noticed that other guests were getting pink sorbet on the house as a palate cleanser. i too have been given this at previous visits but this time there was no such thing. Instead I had to pay for desert where other guests got theirs for free.

I also saw them carry frozen prawns in a box? I always thought that their seafood was fresh.

I had the Pangasius and Calamari combo, it was the most exquisite fish I have ever eaten. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. Had an awesome time and will definitely visit them again.

Great food at a great value for money and stunning service... Our waitron was personable and knowledgeable... One of the party is vegetarian and another on Banting... We were all pleased and had extra sides and a bottle of wine :)

Exhausted from shopping centres we needed a break & some food, so we stopped off here for late lunch.
We sat outside in the square under the umbrellas. Very pleasant setting.
We were well received by a friendly manager & waiter & seated in a great seat near the passage windows & water fountain. The waitress was great & contributed positively to our meal.
We only order mains today. My wife had the hake in a beer batter & I had the prawns & calamari platter.
Firstly our food arrived incredibly quickly & was very well presented on the plates.
I added a garlic butter sauce to my Cajun flavoured meal. It added such flavour to an absolutely delicious meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my food. It was juicy, very tasty, tender & filled with wonderful flavour. Delicious.
My wife thought her food was fantastic & even enjoyed most of the batter.
I've never had the urge to try this restaurant before but walking past, the smell of the garlic & prawns just lured me in. I'm very glad it did because we had a fabulous meal & a great lunch. We will be back. Annie Schmidt

We went as a large group on a Thursday night. The service was excellent considering the chaos that is a big, loud table. The orders were all spot on and the waiters were very attentive. The menu offered a good selection of standard seafood. Nothing new and exciting but that's not what we were looking for. The fish and calamari was cooked well. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely return.

Fishmonger always has excellent service! However the menu has now been in place for a number of years and needs updating! It's always good - but has become boring now! If you have never been there before - I suppose it will be a nice experience, but for regulars - I would say it's time for change! A change to the menu, that is!

I had the Roquefort salad. It was a rather uninspired and uninspiring iceberg-lettuce-based affair. The pears turned out to be 3 tiny slivers of poached pear perched on the top -- never to be seen again in the underlayers. Slightly too much roquefort cheese, and definitely too much sauce. Service was friendly and attentive but uncoordinated , which spoilt the overall effect and meant that I had literally about 6 different waiters in the course of 1.5 hrs. I had to ask twice for the WiFi code and it took ages to get it. Summary: wouldn't go there for salad!

Over cooked and over priced not a patch on Illovo Sad

The food is actually pretty good but it took over an hour to arrive. Additionally some peoples food at our table arrived half an hour before others. People had finished their meals before everybody had their food. Appalling service and massive disorganization. Could not recommend this place to anyone

Quite unexpectedly average...

I had the prawn and calamari combo. The calamari was cold and rubbery - everyone's calamari was rubbery.

The service was attentive though. And it's always nice to get hot, crispy rolls to start.

I'm not sure if this is a standard practice, but we got free Italian kisses for dessert. These were definitely the highlight of the meal! Maybe they knew that our meals weren't exactly best effort cooking?

Overpriced and poor service. We waited over an hour to receive our food, only for it to arrive ice cold. I must say that the food was tasty, however this did make up for their shortcomings. Overall very disappointing.

Fishmonger rosebank almost ruined my valentines day. Food was terrible. Ingredients were missing from dishes. The service was average. Will not be going back there!.

My wife and I dined here on 22 September and were not disappointed. The service was pretty good, the grilled calamari starter was done to perfection, not chewy and quite tasty - like few inland restaurants manage to do. My wife's seafood spaghettini with prawns, mussles and calamari in a cream and white wine sauce was a treat and the serving was quite generous. Thumbs up there.

I decided to try the pangasius - a very white, Asian fish, in Cajun style. The serving was generous and the fish was cooked to perfection. I had never tried this before and I must say I was not sorry. It turned out to be a very good meal.

We were in slightly too much of a hurry to order dessert but were treated to a superb complimentary strawberry sorbet each.

The one point of contention was the wine. We ordered a Fat Bastard Shiraz and when it was presented to us the temperature was sitting at somewhere between 20 and 23 degrees. When I mentioned this the waitress she said "Yes, it's room temperature sir". Sigh. Restaurants continue to do themselves a great disservice by both storing and serving their red wines at whatever room temperature happens to be. I duly asked for the wine to be placed into an ice bucket for a while. This is far from ideal but the only option available. Had it not been for the wine issue, my rating would have been higher.

The bill, tip excluded, came to R460 - reasonable I think for a starter, two mains and a bottle of Fat Bastard - especially considering the quality of the food. Hopefully they will learn with respect to their wine.

Attentive service, good food and nice ambience. Not a foodie destination, but reliable quality meal.

We had an excellent meal this evening. A fresh change from the Illovo Fishmonger (we frequent it often).

The service from our waiter was average but the food fantastic. The portion sizes are always generous and quality the of food is tops.

I am looking forward to Spring, will definitely return to an outside table facing the square. Great people watching spot !!

I enjoy Fishmongers generally and this one is no exception. Well prepared seafood at decent prices is always worth going back for. The service is good and while not my choice for a romantic lingering meal, it's a fine option for dinner before taking in a movie or something like that. I usually go for the simple fish and chips options, but the seafood combos are also good.

I love seafood so always keen to try a new place. With Fishmonger, it took quite a while to decide what to order because the menu didn't have anything that left you with a feeling of "absolutely have to try this". I also found it to be slightly expensive for a very average menu. I ended up trying the Cajun calamari as a "safe" option. It was ok, not something I'd return for. I had lunch with a friend here and it was quite busy, and the waiter kept coming back to us, almost as if she wanted us to leave once we were done. I didn't feel comfortable or relaxed.

For some reason I prefer the Illovo (Thrupps Centre) branch of this restaurant but the Rosebank one is still a good choice if you feel like seafood. To start i had the lobster bisque which I actually felt was far too big for a starter portion. The soup itself if very rich and creamy, so coupled with a giganic serving bowl, there isnt much room left for mains! They have a good variety of fish (most at some pretty hefty prices) and the service is good- although I prefer the slick service at the Thrupps branch, at this one the waitresses look a bit flustered and tend to hover. The trout almondine is a really delicious piece of fish, covered with buttery almonds...mmm!! Its a really big portion too so you don't mind the price.
