Review Nice On 4th - Johannesburg

Ludwig Ehrke
One of the very best Coffee Shops in the world! The atmosphere transports me to a little coffee shop somewhere in Europe. They are famous for their Egg baskets and Crumpets. I suggest trying the Half and Half Egg Benedict Basket with Crumpets. Their freshly baked cakes and treats are out of this world. My favourite coffee shop and bakery ❤️

Literally my favorite place on 4th Avenue, no wonder they’re always packed. Large and variate food menu, with lots of sweet and sour sour options, vegetarian and vegan options. Good portions too. Can’t wait to be back.

Absolutely great food and great service. The wait was short and the price was right. Came here after leaving another restaurant that had horrible service and this restaurant made up for our bad experience at the other restaurant. Thank you.

Food is typical cafe style but we find the spicy bacon penne with avocado an interesting dish. Didn't really gel taste-wise but the spicy sauce alone was really good though! Their bread basket is essentially bread made into a basket shape and grilled/toasted. Nothing mindblowing tbh. Service is friendly without being intrusive and the interior is charming!

Brilliant spot for brunch! The lovely team at Nice even specially set the table beautifully for us and brought cupcakes to the table for a birthday we were celebrating. Incredible customer service and delicious brekkie. Definitely recommend the egg baskets! Will 100% be back and recommend this spot to all we know.

We had such a lovely brunch here. The waiters were quick and attentive and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend it 👌🏾

What a fantastic place! Excellent breakfast with lots of choices. Great service and vibe. Can strongly recommend.

Such a gorgeous cafe! Great service from Dudu, divine food, and cosy atmosphere. You can’t go wrong visiting this spot. Also, their baked goods are to die for!

More than Nice, this lovely little establishment is a delicious eatery parked away in Parkhurst. I highly recommend their half and half breakfast to get a real power duo of flavours! Really enjoyed their take on both “halves”. Service is great and the interior decorations are cozy.

Went there for breakfast and it was nice. As a cheesecake fan, I just had to try it and it wasn’t nice (hence the 4⭐️). Our waiter was very lovely, recommended the half & half and just gave us the best service. Definitely recommend for breakfast, just don’t have the cheesecake.

This is a great breakfast spot. Good fast service and a sweet and savoury breakfast. Perfect 🤩

Had a Delicious breakfasts that was a surprising change from all the "normal" breakfasts available at restaurants. I had a Half and Half, which is exactly how I love my breakfast. Some healthy followed by some naughty. Food was perfectly done and the service was spot on. Very busy on a Saturday morning but the attention from the server was perfectly timed. We will definitely be back.

I feel like Nice is overrated because I find the egg baskets that everyone raves about to be a bit dry and underseasoned. But I enjoyed this particular meal - smashed avo on health bread. Avo was a well-seaspned guacamole with more tomatoes and other bits in it than expected. The waitstaff are forgetful and inattentive - had to remind them for a cushion for my chair and our bill and they didn't check on us much. It was hard to get their attention. The setting delivers most of what makes this place worth it - a curbside, rustic artistic feel.

Been to this Resturant trice already and Still Love this antique themed, sweet little cosy restaurant every single time like it's my first time there.🤭 The half and Half breakfast with Egg baskets and crumpets are the MUST HAVES! 😍 Mimosa's on Point! 👌

Hosted my friend baby shower at this beautiful venue, beautiful set-up for 21 people, loved the long lunch of delicious pies with salad. The welcome bites were amazing, now the mini tarts just cherry on top. Pricing great value for money, the scenery was beautiful social and just relaxing. Thank you so much Vicki and kitchen staff. I'm coming back for breakfast soon

Had such a wonderful brunch experience at this beautiful place. It was quite busy as we got there and so we had to wait like 10 minutes before we got a seat. Ordered the half and half - crumpets and the banting breakfast, and a glass of yummy orange juice 💯 I absolutely love the half and half option for breakfast as you get the best of both worlds. The crumpets were amazing - so light and fluffy with so much flavour. The banting breakfast was just as tasty with one of the best hollandaise sauces I have had. Even though the place was packed to the brim while we ordered, the food came very quickly and there was no compromise on taste or presentation! Kudos to the kitchen staff 👏🏽 They also have a great selection of cakes and other bakery items available with daily specials. I got a chocolate brownie and the strawberry roulade as takeaway - both were in sufficient portions and extremely flavourful. 😍 It was a lovely experience overall even though the waitress on the day was a bit sub par. Will definitely go back and try the other items they have in store 🤩. Absolutely recommend for brunches with family, friends and even dates 🌻.

I may have had too high expectations for this place, because from the reviews most of them have been positive but I’m disappointed with the food here.

There aren’t as many vegetarian options available as I though, especially in the afternoon after breakfast is not served anymore. I ordered the panini with basil pesto and it was very oily. Food tasted quite average.

We waited about 20 mins to be attended to when we arrived. And Waited over 40 mins for a juice and tea. First we were told there’s no orange juice and there’s only watermelon. The waiters kept asking us if we had our drinks when our tables were empty. Then after 30mins we were told there’s no watermelon. And then another two waiters came after and said there’s no watermelon. Food took about and hour to arrive. It basically took us about 2hrs30mins to have breakfast: there was absolutely no remorse about or care for our situation shown by staff.

Excellent breakfast menu & atmosphere

This is quite a cool pet friendly place which offers the outside cafè experience. The food is pretty decent and I did enjoy the bread basket setting with the actual bread. Other than that, there was not much to write home about other than this being a decent place to eat.
DD
Meals were prepared in an unhygienic manner with unhygienic staff. When u take a look at the kitchen you will not want to eat. The food doesn't taste good. The baskets are very small, not worth being called a main meal. Don't wast your time going to Nice as it's Not so Nice afterall!

Met up with an old friend at this Nice cosy spot, and upon my arrival the staff were fairly warm. The waiter offered me a glass of water while I waited for my table, and five minutes later I was seated. My friend and I both ordered the half and half. This consisted of half a portion of crumpets and half a serving of eggs benedict, with a side of avo. Both my friend and I were still not entirely satisfied after our meals, so we went on to share a pasta that had chicken, button mushrooms and covered with garlic cream. Both meals were okay, slightly bland but they were nice.

First time at Nice on 4th and it instantly became my favorite breakfast place. The only breakfast spot I will wake up early for. If you’re like me and find it difficult to make decisions then the half and half is the way to go. The half and half includes half a portion of strawberry and cream crumpets which is absolutely delicious as well as a choice of between half egg basket (that’s shaped in an actual basket by the way!) and half salmon basket. What I love about this place:* The set up is very cute and it’s in a great neighborhood so you’re able to take a relaxing stroll down 4th street after your brunch. * The food is yum and the presentation is great. * The prices are very affordable so it won’t break your budget. * The staff is super friendly as well which is a big bonus in my eyes.
Lee Anne Letcher
Disappointing breakfast. Hubby had health bread that was burnt and bacon ice cold. Daughter ordered crumpets. Ice cold to the touch and cold bacon sent it back and obviously put in microwave and then as tough as nails. Service good but food HORRBLE
Christelle
Cute place on a vibey street. Has a beautiful interior which is devided in three parts which makes it private and interesting. The food was as pretty as a picture and very yummy aswell. There was good client service and I would come again.

Parkhurst certainly has become a coffee shop/ restaurant haven So many choices
We settled on Nice Colleagues suggestion
Small quaint place Suppose trendy maybe a better word
We had the Banting breakfast and the half and half
This was half portion egg basket half portion crumpets
Intriguing
Excellent cappuccino
Attentive service
A real gem
Valentine Bilankulu
Food - below expectations (maybe I was a little too excited about the place). Had the half and half. Nothing like I had imagined. The idea is good but the execution is lacking. My bread pocket was soggy and the "salmon" was overpowered by the tomatoes. Could not go beyond one bite. I enjoyed the crumpets. Would have preferred them with a lot less butter on them. Cream cheese would actually work great. My bacon was biltong. It was very dry.

If you are fan of chocolate cake, their flourless chocolate cake is a must try. It was delicious and rich.

Location - great
Food - fair
Value for money - poorly fair (if such exists)
Service - good

I visited Nice this morning for a catch up breakfast with friends. The service was good and the staff were friendly. We were never kept waiting and our waitress was so accommodating to our needs.

I had the half salmon and half crispy breakfast and I was not sorry. The salmon and eggs were cooked well and the crumpets were delicious. I paired it with a frozen chocolate latte. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely be heading back.

Nice on 4th is a really nice place for a chilled catch up session with a friend. The restaurant is located in parkhurst..it was larger than i anticipated .. with an indoor and outside area. I enjoyed the food , it was served rather quickly which was good. If you looking for a cosy place to take a friend out for a casual breakfast..go to nice on 4th. It won't disappoint.
Izelle De Jager
Lovely with outdoor pavement seating which gives that European people-watching feel. Service is good. Breakfast was alright but I'm not a fan of their bread/toast cups as it's way too hard to eat and ruins the meal.
Little Miss Rabbit 🐇
Beautiful place. The pancake was divine. The presentation of food and details was on point. Food was tasty and service was great . Must try!

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant a 3 is because of the service that I received. The manager was kind enough to tell us we will be seated in about 9 minutes and he was spot on. We had a seat and we ordered immediately with our waitress. The restaurant was busy but dishes seemed to have been moving out fast to tables that were seated after us ... 50 minutes into been seated , our food was not served as yet. The waitress came by after 53 minutes and said “Sorry you can see we are busy , but your food will be ready in 5 minutes” .. yet it was not. Eventually the food arrived and my order was placed incorrectly- so the food had to be sent back. The food was tasty but the service was not up to standard and that was quite disappointing for me.

I love this place!!! Makes you feel like you're in the comfort of your own home. They have an open kitchen so you can see how the food is cooked. The waiters were very friendly the food was really good, definitely going back. What an amazing Sunday morning experience 👌
Mukhtar Dharsey
Nice relaxing setting in parkhurst. Very very busy for breakfast. Had the half salmon basket and half crumpets. Salmon basket was quite flavourful with the chilli tomato salsa. Nice but a little small. Friendly staff. Lovely fresh orange juice. Nice and functional decor fits into parkhurst well. Recommend u get there early.

I haven’t been here in quite a while so when I saw the new decor I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived for brunch and ended up staying until 4pm due to the fantastic atmosphere. We ended up ordering lunch and we were all adequately satisfied with our meals. The coffee is strong and the wine was great. I think our waitress being so wonderful made our Sunday even better! I didn’t catch her name but she has short/shaved hair and the biggest smile. We probably would’ve stayed for dinner if it wasn’t closing
Samkelo Sabela
It's a very vibrant place to have breakfast at, service is great and the menu is great. The crumpets were good but the bacon in the crumpets is not very tasty and wasn't cooked well. Had the roulade and I didn't like it much.
Stavros Souvlakis
Had a horrible breakfast at Nice yesterday. R78 for a floppy and flat croissant with ham and cheese, and some old rocket. Really badly assembled, and very poorly presented. A complete rip off at that price. The service was the only saving grace.
Muller.don
Our favorite breakfast spot on the trendy 4th Ave. The flapjacks are the best I’ve had, and their signature breakfast baskets are a firm favorite. We also love the banging breakfast. Do yourself a favor and pop in.
Tsenge
Amazing food and atmosphere. Had the Banting breakfast and it was delicious and filling. Staff seemed slightly overwhelmed and distracted looking after a lot of tables but otherwise great experience.
Trisan Reddy
The higher marks are for great service and presentation. Food portions are quite small though. Cakes and pastries are hit and miss, some being wonderful, others merely average.

The crumpets and egg basket combo caused a party on my taste buds🤗🤗 Service was great and I got my food fast!
Love the style/decor and vibe of this restaurant, will definitely return❤

I had never seen or heard of this place but it caught me by surprise. Nice was a nice lunch option for our group of friends who were keen to catch up after a while on a cold Saturday afternoon in Jozi. The Cafe itself is very cozy but it has a nice inviting atmosphere.

Food selections were varied - with breakfast options (ending at 2pm), and a variety of salad and main options. I had the steak pie - which was plated very nicely. The pie was a bit dry inside (I expected a little more gravy from a homemade pie) but the accompanying baby potatoes and vegetables complemented the meal well. Other options that were enjoyed at our table included the haloumi salad and the beef fillet.

For dessert we shared the cheesecake which was OK - I have had better cheesecake. Service was great and our waiter was prompt and very attentive. Will definitely try this place again, to try something else.

I tried Nice on 4th out a few weeks ago for breakfast. I had been wanting to go for ages and finally got the chance. The flapjacks were my initial order, but I went for the salmon basket instead. I didn’t know what to expect when I ordered this. When it arrived it looked very interesting. I probably should have asked what they meant by basket before I ordered. The basket was bread that has been shaped as a basket with egg, salmon etc inside. It really was not bad, I just found it to be too wet for my liking. I could not finish it because of this. I was still a bit hungry after so I ordered rye bread with strawberry jam. The jam was very good and I left the restaurant very chuffed with myself. My friend enjoyed his breakfast so I think I just made a wrong decision. Next time I go I’ll keen an open mind and order something else or the half and half option. The restaurant itself is very relaxed and open. It was pretty full when we arrived so it is obviously the place to be for breakfast. I cannot wait to go back and try more of the food options.
Food: I tried as many dishes as I could, and I was very impressed. There's everything for everyone, and the food sure does tickle the taste buds. I absolutely loved the veggies that came with the beef fillet! So delicious!
Service: Had great service from Vuya. She was attentive, polite and very lovely.
Ambience: I love how relaxed the place is. Felt like home. I also love how you can see as they make the food, which was refreshing.

I love this place, and will definitely visit again. Everyone there is so warm and accommodating.

We went to Nice on 4th and really enjoyed their breakfast. The 'half and half' option is a great idea for anyone who can't decide between savoury and sweet. The flapjacks were absolutely amazing. Also had the salmon speciality breakfast and it was great, except for the capers that was not mentioned on the menu description and kind of overpowered the dish. Delicious baked cheesecake. Mimosas were good too. All and all a pleasant experience.
Kerry Garden
Had a champagne breakfast there this morning
Staff are really attentive and great.
Food looks amazing and tastes fantastic. Crepes and eggs and soup and scones with jam, cream and strawberries. All yummy
Taahira Kimmie
The most charming breakfast spot. Their half and half is always a winner and their pastries are delicious. When in season, the watermelon juice is too yummy. The service from time to time isn’t always best but everything else makes up for it. Ideal spot for a breakfast date!
Rella Suskin
Nice setting, nice tea, but not so nice 'salmon' pasta. Just a heads up, the salmon pasta is a soupy tomato sauce and if you really search you may find some flakes of salmon hidden.
Megz Mackintosh
I was invited to a birthday brunch at this spot and was so excited to try it! It was very quaint and had that typical Parkhurst vibe inside.

Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I opted to try the French toast muffin and was pleasantly surprised (it was definitely not what I was expecting!). I wouldn’t have described it as French toast but it was rather delicious (just wish the banana on the side was slightly more grilled?). The other guests also enjoyed their breakfasts and the birthday girl was treated to a birthday plate with an assortment of cupcakes and fudge treats (delicious and so thoughtful!)

I will definitely be back to try the lunches on offer!
Pei-Lin Chen
What a cute coffee shop? I remember I wrote my CIA Part 2 exam and came out here just to celebrate my passing! I celebrated with the decadent chicken mayo sandwich and I was happy as a clam.
Kirti_unbound
Average vegetarian options, subpar service, we often had to try flag a waitress down. Often it sounded like the music was in competition with the sound of people chatting. The prices were unreasonable for the quality (average) and quantity of the food presented to us.
Reshma
Had breakfast here with friends on a week day morning. The welcome was warm and friendly.
The coffee was served promptly and was good.
Water already available on the table so no need to ask. I really like that!
Recommendations for the menu were on point and tailor made for me. I can definitely recommend the veg half and half, I’m sure the non-veg version is equally good. The portion size ample and I finished it all comfortably.
My only negative is that the tables are on the small side so by the time you put your wallet and keys down there not sufficient space on the table.
No pictures this time, but will definitely go back!
Quinton Monyake
There seems to be a lot of competition on 4th Avenue in Parkhurst, but this place knows how to stay in its own lane and that way, it's on par with the top. Delicious desserts are on offer and for someone like me with a massive sweet tooth, I'd come here every day after work if possible. Exceptional.
Claire Michelle Lawrence
This is the second time I visited this cosy yet beautiful restaurant. I am a sucker for restaurants with beautiful light and spaces and this one achieves it so well!

They have a added a new section which definitely alleviates the previous overcrowded feel - and I love the updated greenery decor they have added.

I ordered the mushroom pasta which was delicious and I love that they did it al dente! Those who came with me ordered croissants and a deli sandwich. The croissants were great but not filling enough and the sandwich was good yet bland.

I love the detail of serving tea in a cup and saucer - a lovely detail which is appreciated by tea lovers such as myself!
The service was great and manger very attentive!
I would definitely go back!

The 3/5 is due to only one out of the four of us loving our meal.
Sean William
Amazingly beautiful restaurant, true to their roots.

Food was delicious and very quick to get to the table. The owner regularly came to ask if everything was good.

Just think they are very overpriced. For one slice of rye bread with avo is R50 (Which I think is insane, you can buy a loaf of rye bread and 2 avocados for that price).
Chipo Garwe
Had my birthday brunch which turned into lunch and then afternoon tea at this fabulous establishment. The food, the ambiance, the service all 5 Star. Thank you team. Keep up the great work. I’ll certainly be back, and i will be spreading the word about how fantastic Nice is.
Mignon Crouse
Came here for breakfast- the presentation of the food was different which was quite refreshing. The food was delicious and the portions were just the right size. This place was quite a pleasant find.
Lizelle Brink
It's lovely sitting outside in the morning sun while sipping on one of their cappuccinos! I was rather pleased to see that they still have the Egg Basket on the menu. We ordered a Salmon Basket and a ‘Half and half’. Both dishes were delicious. Service was great and the manager was also very attentive and friendly. I’m looking forward to going back to try their lunch and dinner menu.
Ntombenhle Bridget Radebe
I was quite dumbfounded to have my request to you the waitron to have a fried egg declined. I was informed I can only have my eggs poached or scrambled. When you have a breakfast menu my first thought would be optionality on how you have your eggs right?

I asked to see the manager. She was very apologetic and agreed to meet my request. Nice is still GREAT!
Safee-Naaz Siddiqi
Nice was one of my favorite brunch spots in the city because I can brunch all day here. The food is good and I have introduced most of my friends to this space. Part of the reason this was great was because of service.

Unfortunately, this seems to be changing. There aren’t too many meat-free options on the menu, which has never been an issue. I’d usually just ask to sub meat with haloumi. This can’t be done anymore. You also still pay the same price.

They’ve also started including weird plastic fish in the water they place on the table.

There seems to be a shift away from the comforting but still nourishing vibe that I used to associate with the place.

Notwithstanding, still a great spot if you’re keen on brunch at 2pm. Not sure I’ll frequent the spot anymore voluntarily though.

Edit: involuntarily attended at Nice again. Food was average; no longer affordable AND filling. Worst though: ordered a croissant because i was still hungry - croissant was cold and rubbery! I was (perhaps unduly) irritable but the owner / manager (whomever he was) would not let it rest - even tried to chastise the waiter in front of me. Absolutely mortifying. Not sure what went wrong with this place. The saddest.
Cheyen
Lovely vibe for a quick breakfast and catch up . Not too crazy about the flavour profiles of the bread basket and crumpets combo . Presentation and staff were outstanding.
The decor is what attracted me to Nice.
Casey K
Nice as the name suggests.
Nothing amazing for the main meals but desserts were probably the highlight of the whole experience.
Nice watermelon juice on offer. Not sure what people rave about though as we have been here 3 x and not really impressive.
Inge Nefdt
I went here for breakfast, as most of you know I’m a breakfast nut in search of restaurants who know what a soft poached egg is. Well this is one of my top breakfast spots. Presentation is amazing with a great variety on the menu.
The atmosphere gets a 10 from me because I love little restaurants with great service.
Claire Frost
Breakfast was sad....cold coffee; cold toast (wrong bread); cold plates (I’ve never understood that!). Great poached eggs though.
Not for me.....but it’s a shame cos it’s a nice spot.
Wikus Du Toit
Great little place on the main Parkhurst drag. Excellent breakfasts and outstanding service. The breakfast baskets made with bread is a winner. Great option.
JR
Just like the name NICE, not great, not amazing...just nice.
Went for lunch, was very empty... so empty the waitress took so long to greet and hand us a menu. All the kitchen staff were updating their Facebook status to "bored," hope they wash their hands after using their phones in the kitchen leaning on the cooking counter. Drinks took so long we decided to leave. Looks like such a nice place but a pity the attitude of lethargy is blinding. They also don't have craft beer, and my wife went there in December and the service was so aphauling but she wanted to give them a second chance.
Pieter
Been To Nice on Saturday
Festive atmosphere, hustle & bustle most enjoyable
Breakfast offerings tasty and innovative
Service ok for a Saturday
Overall great experience
Meagan
Lovely breakfast spot. Given lemon orange water jug as soon as we sat down. Cappachino is really good. Ordered the egg basket and the vegetarian basket. Eggs were exactly as requested. The tomato salsa inside is amazing. Lots of food so I only managed to eat one of my 2 baskets. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try something different and new
Divia Riga
Absolutely amazing food. Try the bread baskets with the salmon. Some great honest flavours. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good for a weekend brunch date.
Ddgarrow
No service received. Kept waiting , menus handed out but no one came back to get a simple order. Oh well I guess Nice is not as nice as it used to be
Ameera Sackoor
Great little spot. Slightly hidden almost missed it but beautiful atmosphere , yummy food and friendly staff. I will definitely be back!!!!!!
Will Kleyn
it’s been a while since I’ve visited this little gem. had the most pleasant experience... exceptional service, amazing breakfast and great cappuccinos. menu hasn’t changed much since the last visit but the flavours and service makes up for it... will definitely be back more frequent.

Best pie, scones and crumpets in JHB!
Great value for money
Top tier service
Chilled, friendly, welcoming vibe
Mobile payments accepted
.........................................................
Manuel Feliciano Gomez-Arrones Egido
The place needs to reinvent itself. It is not acceptable that they use standard brown/white sliced bread for their breakfast.
There are other places in the same street that put more effort into their dishes
Gabriella Jordaan
Stunning breakfast spot for an early morning post-run coffee or a catch up breakfast with the squad. Not a fan of eggs but they are always willing to accommodate with my favorite, French toast.
James Marsh
This is such a cute little spot, and I must say I was very impressed. The staff are very friendly, and the service very good! The menu is great and has something for everyone. The food was very good! And came out very fast! Love the ambience and vibe.
Mignon Baines
I've been for breakfast and for coffee. The poached eggs are great and the strawberry roulade is light and creamy. Service is very friendly.
Gabriella Maxine Abrahams
A lovely little coffee shop nestled away is a great spot for a copper and some breakfast or a light lunch.

They are super dog friendly which is always a pleasure.
Divan Van Der Merwe
My absolute favourite place to eat breakfast in Joburg, hands down. Breakfast basket (basket made from toast and filled with poached egg and spicy tomato relish) every time. Cakes, coffees and juices (including carrot and watermelon when in season) all really good.
Santana De Melo
Some things just shouldn't be complicated. Ordered a toasted bacon, egg & cheese today and was really disappointed. Received 1.5 slices of bread open faced up with bacon bits (very hard & fatty). There was a huge hump of lettuce in the middle of the plate soaked in balsamic vinegar - which also went over the sandwich - gross. Really not what I wanted when I ordered a toasted sandwich to go & definitely not what I've experienced here before. Not worth R65 for some drowned lettuce with some bread.
A Foodie Travels
Came here with some friends for breakfast, they are known for egg or salmon baskets and the crumpets.Had a half egg basket with crumpets and really enjoyed the crumpets with strawberries was divine, dishes beautifully presented ,service was good for a packed restaurant
The Hungry Blonde
As far as Cafes go this one is nothing to write home about.
Came in here at 12 midday to a not overly busy restaurant and waiting at least 15 minutes before we were even severed.
Not sure if the young lady serving us was a trainee but she didn't seem very confident in her menu knowledge or very interested in serving us.
The coffee was bang average and didn't enjoy it al all.
Definitely won't be rushing back
Danieljake
Somewhat of a hidden gem, the understated outside decor makes for a please tell surprise when entering this little wonderland of treats!

I came here for brunch with a friend and had the half and half crumpets with vegetarian basket.

The crumpets are warm, soft and fluffy, and the egg basket was packed full of fresh avo and a soft poached egg.

The service was good and the staff were friendly.

I'll definitely come back here
Nicole Kruger
Wonderful cosy restaurant. On arrival we had to wait in a line to be seated. This restaurant gets so busy but tables turn very fast, so the wait wasn't too bad especially with the complimentary freshly squeezed orange juice.
Girls breakfast was great with sidewalk seats watching the world go by.

Food included the famous salmon breakfast baskets as well as the famous crumpets.
Portions were so worth it and delious.🍳🍴
We will be back for more!
Georgie De Meillon
Amazing breakfasts! I've only visited Nice a couple times for a sit down meal and I always order the same thing, the half & half with the egg basket, you just can't go wrong with it. Now and again though, I will pop in for their strawberry roulade.. if you want something sweet (but not too sweet) and delicious in every way, that's the dessert to order!
Teekay Mhlongo
If I could give it more I would . I've just had thee most amazing breakfast which tastes as good as it looks. Ordered the half and half oh yummy yumm , I was skeptical that it wouldn't be filling so technically I was worried about nun the portions are perfect . I also love how reasonable it is and the weather is stunning for outdoor seating

Nice.... is nice. As nice as the word "nice". Breakfast was good. Nice. Noice. Noice.
Had scrambled eggs and bacon on a verging on soggy croissant. It was nice... like cliff richard is nice.
Partner had a toast basket (kudos, its pretty sweet) with some eggy thing and stuff and a crumpet stack (my mom called them pancakes when i was growing up, much confusion suffered by me as an adult). They looked grand with strawberries and mascarpone and bacon and ... uh honey? Maple? Dono. Some sweet golden goo.
She won, but i got eggs so thats rad.

It tries hard to be quaint. Does champagne breakfasts till 2 in the arvie. Service was ok. Kitchen was fast. Nobody asked why i had a sip of my coffee and then just let it congeal in the middle of the table.

Its nice, like hansen, or Disney movies from the 80s

Wth is with coffee in jhb? Why is it sour? I'm sure "vinegary burnt sour almond gravy" is not the flavour profile that made coffee the international sensation that it has become.

Descaler perhaps?

Revisit- we went back, i wasn't so keen but they were ok the first time.

I had another coffee. It was sour. So its not a once off, the coffee here is consistent.
I had a toastedcheese and tomato on rye

Let me tell you, if you ever want to make a toasted cheese and tomato, go to nice, and try figure out what they do. Disect the sandwich, really get a feel for it.

Then make sure you don't do it like that.

There's almost no cheese on it, and its not melted, and there are big chunks of cold tomato smashed in there. The whole thing is topped off with some runny white split sauce they call french mayo. The bread is soggy.

If I'm in parkhurst and i want a light lunch, i would literally go anywhere else.

K
Popped into Nice for breakfast. I tried the half crumpets, half salmon basket. Delicious! Great coffee and service too. Little bit busy, but that's the Parkhurst vibe. I'd love to go back and try the lunch menu.
Hugo Kaminski
Favorite breakfast location. In a warm sunny morning to be seated outside and to enjoy the coffee, fresh drinks and the highlight of the place the breakfast baskets and combos! Absolute favorite for a relaxed start into the day

Love the breakfast and the run crew loved the restaurant. Best service by far even & the manager was hecticly involved. Loved it, the egg basket too

Been there on Saturday 1 July 2017. Must say I was disappointed in the food. Really overprized as well. The breadbasket was dry and to hard to eat. Good vibe and friendly staff.

Cutest little spot on trendy 4th avenue!
Hubs and I strolled in on Sunday with thoughts of a lazy brunch. The place was brimming but despite this, we were seated pretty quickly. One look at the menu and it was settled - Half & Half Vegetarian Basket for me and Homemade Chicken Pie for him. Whilst both the bread basket and chicken pie were delish, the crumpets took all the glory on that plate. The only way to describe them would be soft pillows of heaven layered in mascarpone and strawberries with drizzles of maple syrup. Yum! Service was on point and all in all a truly lovely experience. Will be back to try the roulade and other goodies!

Loved the watermelon juice 👌🏾it is quite refreshing, especially on a summer afternoon. Great place to catch nibbles with friends. Can easily go back there.

Visited this place on a Tuesday mid morning. It's a true gem this place. Great food and a calm relaxing vibe. I ordered the salmon bread basket which was divine! I will definitely be back

Went to Nice on Sunday for breakfast. They were packed to the brim. The staff greeted us at the door and mad space for us by getting smaller tables all around the store and putting them together. Our waitress was friendly and smiling and happy to serve us. The owner was all over checking up in everybody and taking time out to chat and explain the concept behind the breakfast basket. I can honestly say you cannot go wrong. The food was phenomenal and the staff and owner were fantastic. Def going back.... for lunch next time because the lunch menu looked just as yummy.

So we left our Mother's day plans a little late this year and by chance managed to secure a breakfast reservation at Nice. The restaurant was fully booked with a long queue outside so we were very lucky as we were a group of twelve people.

I've been wanting to try out this restaurant for quite awhile so I was pretty excited. What's really great is that the owner is really friendly and on top of her game. She checked up on us several times and made sure that we were well taken care of despite the restaurant being so busy. It was such a lovely gesture when all the mothers were served a pretty little cupcake for Mother's Day.

When I had a look at the menu, I couldn't decide whether I wanted something sweet or savoury. Another thing that's great with this restaurant is that you can order what's called a Half and Half, which is half a portion of the egg basket and half a portion of the crumpets. The egg basket is a clever idea and is made up of a toast basket with a poached egg, crispy bacon and a spicy tomato relish. The crumpets were light and fluffy and were served with layered mascarpone, bacon, strawberries and maple syrup - an absolutely winning combination, if you ask me! I really enjoyed the crumpets. I also had a taste of my boyfriend's toasted chicken mayo sandwich and it was also delicious.

The one thing that I didn't really enjoy was the latte that I ordered. I've had better lattes elsewhere but this wasn't a major issue as the food more than made up for it. The cherry on top of the whole experience were the amazing Nutella crossaints with fresh strawberries that we all shared after our breakfast. These were so delicious and I'd go back just for that.

It turned out to be a great Mother's Day and I'm really glad I got to try out this restaurant. I will definitely be back!

Nice is in a great location. Very quirky decor, and loads of seating space. My mom and I went for breakfast, the service was quick and food enjoyable.

I had the veg half n half. I enjoyed the crumpets, they were fresh and not too sweet for breakfast. The egg basket was a little underwhelming for me but I did like that they had a vegetarian option for this dish. I enjoyed my food but service was at best average. I don't know if it was because I was doing some work but after I received I didn't see my waitress again. I wanted to ask her for the wifi password and something to drink but before I knew it I had finished my work anyway. I don't mind that she didn't check on me, assuming it's because she didn't want to disturb me but waitresses aren't in sight at all, I had to go and ask for my bill.

Last week Sunday my husband and I treated my Mum, Gran and Aunt to Mother's Day breakfast at Nice and all I can say is, I'm so glad we chose this delightful place. My husband called for a booking 2 days before and we were very lucky to secure a booking for 12 people as they don't normally do bookings. When we got there our table wasn't ready but they quickly got 4 tables together and seated us. I ordered the small chicken pie and it was delicious. The veggies that were served with the pie were beautifully cooked. All 12 of us really enjoyed the breakfast. This restaurant is a success because the owner is so hands on and pleasant. She also added a nice Mother's day touch by serving all the Mums a mini cupcake. Our waitress was such a gem running up and down taking our orders and managing to keep sane with all our demands. The highlight of the breakfast were the mouth watering Nutella crossiants with strawberries that we shared. Never have I ever tasted such awesome crossiants. Thank you Nice for making Mother's Day so special.

This restaurant embodies its name - its absolutely nice!
If there was anywhere I am taking my Granny or Mom in Johannesburg for a high tea or a quick bite, this is the place to go :) You don't get nicer than Nice!

Nice was such a quaint and intimate setting, which I really admired. It truly captures the buzz of 4th street, whilst retaining its own softer energy.

I absolutely loved my poached egg basket and couldn't help but have a nibble or two of my moms chicken and mushroom pie 🌾🍂

Nice on 4th is the perfect restaurant for a light, but appetizing meal.

Perfect Birthday Breakfast at Nice on 4th!

I went to Nice on 4th in Parkhurst for an amazing birthday breakfast last Saturday with my friends. I felt so special from the time I arrived. We were not able to book a table in advance, and at 09h30 the place was completely packed. My heart sank when I saw all the tables were taken but we only waited for about 5 minutes for a table. The waiters and the manager were so friendly and helpful, and made sure that there was space for us. The service was incredible!

I ordered the vegetarian half and half breakfast. Half of the plate has a delicious toasted bread basket with a perfect, poached egg, mushrooms, tomato and avocado. So unique and delicious! The other half is a small stack of buttery, fluffy crumpets with strawberries. I also ordered a chai latte.

The restaurant surprised me with the cutest pink cupcake, sparklers and brownies. It honestly made my day.

I loved my birthday breakfast and this is officially my new favourite breakfast spot.

I have been to Nice a time or two to drown my sorrows in their delicious flour less chocolate cake. It really does make your worries disappear. The roulade is also spectacular. Their half and half breakfast is fantastic, the crispiest bacon. I have also really enjoyed their chicken curry, which is a huge portion. Their chicken pie is another favourite. Basically everything you eat at Nice is fantastic. It can get very busy on the weekends so I usually stick to early mornings or weekdays.

I went to Nice for brunch on a Saturday morning. The place was packed, with a line of people waiting to be seated. Unfortunately this place is really popular and doesn't take reservations, so be prepared to wait.

I had the egg basket, which was really delicious, but the portion size was a bit small, especially if you're going there expecting a massive brunch.

The outdoor seating was also a bit cramped, and it was quite uncomfortable sitting on the edge of the sidewalk in the way of everyone trying to walk past. We also sat right by the line of eager patrons waiting on the next open table, which was less than ideal.

The service was excellent, and I have to say that the staff do a great job of providing great service at a place that does get really busy.

The resturant is situated on a nice quiet part of Parkhurst and I struggled to find parking at also had to wait but when we sat down I realised that it was worth the wait. The staff was friendly and very attentive and the food was very good. Great place to have brunch on your own or with friends and family.

Will most definitely be coming back. ..

Lovely atmosphere, service and food!
Well thought out yet simple menu that works well. It's got a lovely cafe vibe that pulls through in the menu and plating.
Perfect for a relaxed breakfast with friends or family.

P.S. must try: Belgian chocolate cake, absolutely amazing

I saw great reviews on this, but it wasn't what I expected. Food was nice but nothing out of the ordinary, besides the way it looks. The flourless cake however was delicious.

Nice is a cute little spot for brunch. I love that they don't stop serving breakfast at 12, it makes a lazy Sunday that much better. I often go for the vegetarian half and half - so that's half savoury and half sweet. It is the ideal balance of eating something wholesome and still being able to enjoy a smaller portion of something deliciously sweet. The flapjacks are outstanding. The service is excellent too. 💕

Used to be one of my favourite spots. Sadly in my view the quality went down. Noticed that the half & half is popular and that pre-prepping affects quality. Portions seems smaller or less. Presentation also less appealing. Never had good coffee here... Flourless chocolate cake is still the best is town! Great atmosphere (especially pet friendly) and good service. Nice that the owner is on site - please just keep a check on the kitchen staff.

Cute little brunch and lunch place on the popular 4th Avenue. We managed to get the early enough to snag a table outside but it got progressively busier while we were there so I would definitely recommend getting there earlier if you want to side on the pavement. Brunch options are standard that you would expect to find at most other brunch places. The menu does offer half and half where you can have two different meals in one dish. The crumpets are good, but fairly standard. The egg baskets are amazing and I would recommend going for those! Friendly service, well priced restaurant - I'll definitely be back to try some of the lunch and tea options.

Such a great spot for breakfast! We arrived on Saturday morning and it was brimming full of people. To keep us satisfied whilst we waited for a table, we were given freshly squeezed juices which was such a nice touch and we ended up ordering full glasses of the watermelon and orange juice as soon as we sat down.

We both had the half and half option (one egg basket and two crumpets) which was absolutely perfect. This way you get the best of both and mix sweet and savoury. Our waitress was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.

Was eager to try out their infamous half and half breakfast and quite enjoyed it! :) It's a beautiful cozy space and the Saturday morning atmosphere was warm and sunny with friendly service and a happy vibe. The cappuccino was disappointing but we enjoyed our breakfast of an egg basket and crumpets. The egg basket comes in your choice of bread with a perfectly poached egg, bacon bits and a tomato relish. The crumpets were fresh and fluffy, layered with bacon inside, marscarpone and strawberries on top, drizzled over with some maple syrup.

The perfect breakfast spot!!!

I was really impressed by Nice on 4th. They have everything to perfection. I'm not sure what they actually do that's mediocre. I'm continuously thoroughly impressed.

Nice place but not fabulous although it was really a case of the company being so nice that I barely noticed the food. Had a salad with strawberries, feta, avo and bacon which I swopped for chicken. Nice presentation but the chicken was dry and tasteless. I can't remember there being any avo. There were swirls of balsamic glaze decorating the rim of the plate which I managed to get onto my hands. Otherwise no other dressing on this rather bland salad and we weren't offered any. I could have/ should have asked but I didn't. Service was unobtrusive and fast and the cappuccino delicious but tepid.

This is one of my favorite spots for tea and cake - I do know where to find lovely cake 😀 So decided it would be a brilliant spot to take my sister for breakfast one earlyish Sunday morning - it wasn't yet busy so we didn't have to wait long although people did begin to linger for a table soon after that ! We had coffee and egg baskets - these are slices of bread cooked in muffin tins with tomato salsa topped with eggs and bacon - these were mostly delicious although the toast was neither crisp or soggy but just not quite right -perhaps a little more salsa needed but such a lovely spot to spend an hour catching up with my sis that it didn't really matter ! Carla the owner is always around and knows loads of her customers by sight and is a terrific hostess .. can't help but go back again and again and again ..

Ideal breakfast setting in beautiful Parkhurst with great coffee (would be great if there was a non-dairy milk option). Amazing and friendly staff and the food was of a high quality. As a vegan I was able to work around the vegetarian baskets by replacing eggs with mushrooms. This breakfast was a real treat and I'll definitely be back here.
