Review La Boqueria - Johannesburg

Jeraldene Pillay
An absolutely outstanding experience. The food was just divine. Excellent atmosphere. Our waitress was so attentive and present throughout our sitting. She was so knowledgeable and gave me great recommendations for drinks. The overall vibe of the restaurant is very chilled and welcoming. Definitely a 5* experience

This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere and vibe to it. It gets busy very quickly so it is advisable to reserve a table. The decor is aesthetic and the facilities are clean. The staff here were friendly, however we did have to ask for our table to be cleared each time, since our waiter would just bring new stuff and leave. Most of the food was good and arrived quickly. The food is pricey, and I was disappointed with the seafood fideua as it was very fishy. The bread was also hard and didn't seem fresh.

We hosted my Mom's 60th Birthday party here and it was an amazing success. The food really stood out. Every dish is different from your run of the mill set menu items, very tasty and added interest to the event as a whole because the food ultimately became a talking point amongst the guests. Everyone loved the food. We had a few guests with dietary requirements who were very well catered for. The menu was also more than reasonably priced. The service was really good. From the moment I arrived with boxes of flowers and vases and an enormous cake. The staff rallied around to help and lend a hand. They did an outstanding job. I put the function together from the other side of the world and this would not have gone so well without the help of the wonderful Suku! She was an absolute gem through this process. The ambience in the restaurant is also amazing. The decor is very colourful and busy. There was a band playing in the restaurant which added a little touch of magic as well. All round, a magical day. Thanks to a fabulous restaurant and a group of wonderful staff. Thank you La Boqueria!

Best zucchini fries in town . The place get packed and busy but the atmosphere is worth it , parking is a bit of a hassle, Food and drinks were affordable and decent. I love it when restaurants incorporate plenty of plants inside and out . A definite must visit

I enjoyed the food but I cannot say the same for the guests I was with. One had to send their steak back due to there being to much fat and two others had to send their oxtail back due to it being to salty. My food was great even though the portion was smaller than I expected. The waiters are friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is nice but there was a live DJ their unnecessarily since the music he was playing was just basic lo-fi hip hop which could've just been played off my phone while we ate and still have had less repetitive beats than he was playing. The music was starting to irritate the people I was eating with and they even felt that it was too loud.

Lovely place, fantastic atmosphere, amazing food and wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Not cheap, but absolutely worth saving for.

Absolutely gorgeous venue. Love the repurposed pieces of furniture. 5 stars for the decor and design layout. The only thing that can be suggested is the outside seating area. The IBR roof is a heat trap, creating a sauna effect. The leather chairs and my dress pressed against each other was not comfortable as it got drenched. It was super uncomfortable. Maybe invest in the mist spray to cool your guests down. The service was good and the food was delicious.
Weslee “Aunty Wes” Lauder
Had a wonderful birthday dinner party here. Atmosphere is lovely, staff are lovely. Food is really good. On my hunt for the best Aperol Spritz and, unfortunately, it doesn’t go to La Boqueria because it was incredibly watered down, but luckily there is a myriad of other delicious things to drink ☺️

A nice place. Food is average. Waiters are a bit slow but friendly. Served us a seafood paella that was basically porridge. Manager was not too happy to remove it from the bill but at least the place is beautiful and nice for pictures.

It was an all round great experience. The food was bursting with different flavors. The service was on point. And it is an amazing restaurant to go to if you're celebrating a special occasion, they gave us a personalised card for our anniversary, simple but thoughtful gesture. Their cocktails are also sublime.
Tendani Ramanugu
The food and service was good. My aperol spritz could have had more flavour.

The place is good for groups, this was my second time here came with colleagues then came back with a friend.

Awesome Mexican food restaurant, loved the variety of tacos. The portions are good, filling, and oh so delicious. Also tried the potato & beef soup, which they so kindly blended for me. It's a really gorgeous restaurant, located in vibey Parktown North, perfect for family outings, spacious, and the service is absolutely world class. Impressive cocktail list, will definitely go back.
Nicole Themistocleous
Visited this restaurant many years ago and was hoping it was still as good. Much to my delight, it is even better than I remembered! We had various tapas with each plate being better than the next, flavours were insanely good! This is literally the only restaurant I have been to in Johannesburg that actually knows how to make a cocktail, wow! Excellent service, beautiful decor and a lovely atmosphere. Overall a very memorable occasion.

The established restaurant is such a golden gem 💎 in Johannesburg & almost need no recommendation at all. The food, staff & ambiance all scores a gold medal 🥇 but the icing on the cake MUST be the strawberry what what dairy free ice cream dessert 😍😍 All priced and excellent execution 👌

Loved it. We'll be back here for our company's year end function, 2023.
Marve Tesa
We hosted a friend's baby shower recently. The service was amazing. We booked a private room and it was super cute. Food is good, a little pricey l would say, but a variety. Sadly they don't serve lamb. The ribs are to die for. Next time I will try their tacos or their platters
Zane Bezuidenhout
Excellent food and atmosphere. Would definitely go again. Nice place to go on a date or friends.
Amanda Kaburise
Really had a lovely experience. The restaurant is beautiful. Our waitress was delightful and so was the food. I need to go back and experience more of their menu and I certainly will. I went back and tried the tapas. I enjoyed the experience. Still a lovely restaurant but I didn't love all the dishes I tried.
KM
Food is far from outstanding. A few dishes were bought cold. Presented well but croquettes were stodgy, prawns were dry and tasted stale (@R350), mushroom fideua was cold and lacked seasoning so had to be sent back but even then at best it tasted like a creamy mushroom pasta. Felt my money could have been better spent elsewhere, sadly.

I have eaten here 3 times before, all times I found the food vary from delicious to average. After having the seafood Paella on my last occasion, I got really ill due to food poisoning.

Load shedding brought me to this spot after wanting to try it after a very long time. The ambience is amazing and right up my alley - very modern Spanish inspired with open space, boutique lighting and a beautiful eco ambience with the foliage. We had a selection of tapas and most were good. The red meat ones (short rib and beef strips) weren’t bad but didn’t live up to my expectation or the level of the other tapas. Absolutely fantastic Waiter (Godfrey) - super professional, attentive and passionate about service and food. Definitely going again. Would love to check this place out for sundowners!
Rakhil Sewpersadh
Booked for the Valentine's dinner. Promised the chef special of a Lobster Paella. On arrival we were told by wonderful waiter that such special does not exist. We we then forced to order the Chicken Paella which was in my honest opinion not up to standard. My wife and I both found the chicken to be "couchy". Tapas and dessert were good however they were not able to help us forget the unfavourable main meal.

Excellent food and vibe! One of the best meals I’ve had in a while
Cobus Swart
Excellent service and a delicious food gem.

Great Service, Wonderful waitress, however,i unfortunately don't have anything good to say. I ordered the nachos (I am vegetarian) expecting..well.. cheesy nachos but instead i was given 3 round potato chips & 3 round 'charcoal chips' and a bowl of what looked like vegetable paella, to dip the potato chips in... I asked the manager if these were in fact nachos as I was certain they gave me the wrong meal, but no, the manager then said this is their home made Nachos.. all I'm asking for is for the staff to inform the customers properly. I landed up paying R180 for the "nachos" and left the restaurant as starving as I was upon arrival.

We visited La Boqueira for lunch over the weekend and it was a great experience, the food and service was great. They're reasonably priced as well for good quality, authentic food. We had their tapas, paella, churros and sorbet. All were delicious!
Vincent Bezuidenhout
Great atmosphere, tapas are exceptional and mains overall were satisfying and flavorful. Extensive wine list and inviting bar area. Well worth a visit!
Ktmdias
Loved everything right from the unique cocktails Mojito Fresca & Miss Deamenor to the dishes like Lamb empanada etc!! Will surely visit again!!
Kamogelo Ramaphakela
Ambience was great - perfect for hubby and I's date night.<br/>Service from our waiter Godfrey was exceptional 👌🏿<br/>We appreciated the extensive selection of drinks but we were , however confused when the waiter advised that the D'Usse Cognac was only avaible in single shots ( after my husband had been having about 2 or 3 servings of double shots ).<br/>I personally found the paella to have too much black pepper in it so resorted to having another helping of the pork tacos.<br/>The whoopie pie was Devine!!! That cookie was super yum ( crunchy but still soft)..<br/>Overall lovely night out ♥️
Khosi Hlongwane
Ahhh-mazing! Great service! Fantastic setting! The food is to die for! We had the Chipotle Chicken (Smokey jalapeño and paprika thighs) with sweet potato. Really worth the hype. We’re definitely going back there soon!
Boshoffgary
We had dinner there recently and the service was excellent and the food as always outstanding! The waiters were efficient and very friendly and accommodating. A great experience as always
Neeta Raga-D
Love this spot, delicious food, great service, relaxed vibe! A great space to meet friends and family or for eventing @foodiewhippedsa @laboqueria
Frank_Cadillac
The MOST overpriced and overrated establishment I have EVER been to. Worst paella I’ve ever had. Steak was tough and almost double the price of turn n tender. However the service was good, our waiter was great. Personally, for the price you pay I would go to the local grill, turn n tender and the foundry over this overpriced mess of a restaurant.
Nazir Kathrada
I ordered the FILLETED YELLOWTAIL baked fish. HOWEVER, there were at least 15 FISHBONES that I had to remove! I showed my plate to the waiter. Also, I mentioned it to the MANAGER & 2 other people as we left the place. We were a group of 8 diners!Response was totally unacceptable and ALL BLAME PLACED ONTO THE CHEF. Shame on Management. Won't go back again. Pity there's no zero star rating
Thabang
Great place(spanish), sharing meals were very delicious(Tapas). Would definitely recommend🔥Writing this makes me realise that I need to go back.
Raeesa Sarlie
I’ve been there twice. The first time we thoroughly enjoyed the Blistered Edamame starter and the Paella and Whole Fish was so tasty and utterly amazing! 😍<br/>The second time we had the Croquettas to start and maaaan were they magnificent! The Santa Maria Oysters were quite different to anything I’ve tasted and they were marvelous. <br/>I wasn’t too happy with my main which was the Mushroom Fideua so I wouldn’t recommend ordering it. However, I shared of everyone else’s food and left satisfied anyway. The Mexicola Chicken Kabob was oh so tasty and memorably tender! The prawns and the sauce they came in were divine! The Whoopie Pie is always the best dessert to have - in my humble opinion. ☺️
James Mayer
Devine, devine, devine. The food, the service, the interior and the atmosphere all just amazing! Try the edemame beans. The somelier is very knowledgeable. Always a delight!
FriesBeforeGuys
What a gem! My family organized a surprise graduation dinner for me and couldn’t have chosen a better place. Ambience, food and service were all top-notch! Definitely will be going back there soon
Melissa Marengo
Very friendly and efficient service, my friend wasn’t happy about the seating and felt a draft and on. Full night they were very accommodating. Food great, oysters fresh and delicious, cocktails fantastic. Overall I’d go again and highly recommend

Boys Dinner done right! Absolute cracker of a Tapas & Chill kinda place. Highly recommend their Seafood Paella & Steak combination (the waiters normally recommend it to you). The prawns also looked amazing; you could literally just have the prawns on their own and it would be quite filling. Enjoyed the vibe, the decor and the art that they have on display. Very El Burro (Cape town) in nature. <br/><br/>Only criticism would be the wine & MCC list; not sure if they think that people don’t know wine prices in Johannesburg but asking for R420 for a bottle of Graham Beck and R280 for a Darlings Cellar level of Sauv Blanc is a little cheeky & out of line at the same time. Bit of a gamble.
Mawatle Mpuru
The menu is a bit on the pricier side of things but wow the cocktails are amazing. Really good vibe and the food is tasty. Genuinely enjoyed my first dining experience here🤘
Jess Cleenverck
This place is incredible! Service from arrival to sitting down and ordering food was amazing. Our waiter was exceptional with food recommendations and starters that paired with my glass of rose. Food was out extremely quickly regardless of the restaurant being full! Every starter, main and dessert was perfection. Definitely my new favorite restaurant in Johannesburg! Will come back often.
Shubh Saha 🇮🇱
A lively place near Rosebank, serving a small collection of food n a great collection of wine. The ambience is vibrant, people throng this place, while all other restaurants around run empty. We tried a few starters, veggie croquettes we're great. The aubergine - quinoa was not good. The veg pallela was extremely good. Over all great
Dominique
Amazing cocktails and craft shooter options! Can not fault any of the dishes we had, an array of tapas and oysters! Definitely leave space for dessert though!! Awesome vibe on a Friday night. Will definitely be back!
Cláudio M.
Pleasantly surprised by the place.<br/><br/>I had been told countless times, "you must visit this place". Finally I did and what a joy it was.<br/><br/>Oliva, our waiter, was on top of his game. And that Mercado whole fish, takes you on a "orgasmic food trip".<br/><br/>I wouldn't define it as a Mexican or Peruvian restaurant, but definitely as a Latin American. You go from Peruvian to Brazilian and to Mexico in just a few bites.<br/><br/>Would I recommend the place, absolutely.<br/>Service, price and food go hand in hand.<br/>

We had a really great experience at La Boqueria on a Sunday afternoon. The service was amazing as well as the food. The sea food paella was delicious as well as the chicken chipotle.
Food Loving 101
I was there for a friends birthday party and overall the food wasn’t bad considering we didn’t order any main courses, the staff was definitely friendly.
Mpho Mokhoane
This establishment has easily become my favourite restaurant. My goodness, I've been here twice in two weeks!! The first time, was a girl's night out and a week later I went with my fiancé. What makes this place awesome? EVERYTHING! It's a gorgeous restaurant with friendly staff, amazing vibe, decor and more importantly, the food! So far, I've had the chicken chipotle and the lomo saltado pan of prawns. Cooked to perfection! Generous portions and flavourful!! Definitely great value for money. I'm already planning my next meal experience here and I want to experience their tapas menu. See you soon La Boqueria🍷
Morgan
Had a absolutely wonderful experience here. The atmosphere is cozy and beautiful. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The food is incredible. Couldn't have been happier.

Finally visited this very popular restaurant in Parktown North. sad to say i didnt enjoy my food but maybe i chose the wrong meal. the Paella is excellent , easily one of my favorites while the calamari lacked flavour . The pork belly is a fair choice whilst the Chipotle chicken was a healthy portion just not too keen on the garnish. However i would love to give it another try.
Tony Hulme
Nice vibe and great cocktails.<br/>Cheese board was a great sharing starter.<br/>The tapas looked great but made the mistake of ordering a steak.<br/>The Son of Butcher Man meat was tough even though only cooked medium. <br/>Stick to tapas. <br/>If you want steak go next door. <br/>
Theloveofgoodfood
First impression: PACKED (even on a Wednesday) which is almost always a good sign but also a heads-up to rather reserve a table to not be disappointed. Even though we did not book, the manager played a bit of musical chairs and made an effort to get us a great table!<br/><br/>Bar menu is extensive and up to date with everything that’s up and coming. Gins, whiskeys, tequilas, cocktails etc. <br/><br/>But. The. Food. Wow. Everything reads beyond delicious, different and flavour-focused. I had the lamb rump kebab which was out of this world tender and beautifully spiced and flavoured with interesting, well-complementing condiments such as whipped feta, chimichurri and pomegranate rubies. The desserts are also yummy and all the hazelnut ice-cream that comes with the whoopie pie is top-notch. <br/><br/>Lively, warm, exotic atmosphere with gorgeous décor. <br/><br/>So yes, the PACKED, was a great sign. I’ll be back for the paella. <br/>
Gary
Fantastic experience. Excellent service, viby place and awesome food! The chipotle chicken dish is the absolute best I ever tasted! We will definitely go back soon.<br/>

We went to La Boqueria for my fiancés’ 30th.<br/>What an awesome experience. We were all very impressed with the food. All the dishes were amazing, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Candy, who was attending to our table was fantastic and her recommendations were spot on!<br/>We will be back soon!
Lebo Chabana-Kubheka
Great place, lovely food, good vibe. We didn’t order mains but had a bit of everything from the tapas and starter menu, everything was beautiful. Our waiter Cassius was fantastic. Overall a good experience. will definitely be back.

Love the ambience. Service is tops - very attentive waitrons. Food is delish - yip highly impressed and will definitely recommend La Boqueria<br/><br/>Only problem we had was parking

So when you see the exterior of La Boqueria you know it’s a place where a lot of thought went in, but wait till you see inside. The decor is absolutely stunning! Friendly and very knowledgeable staff. They have a drinks menu for the adventurous, I had an infused Gin & tonic (as recommended by the waitress) and loved it. Not to mention the food! Everything is “new and different”. Hubby & I shared the chicken&pork paella and it was beyond delicious with flavors to keep you going back for more! The Chirros with chilli-choc sauce was number one...a must have! We can’t wait to go back!!! Awesome spot!
Alesandro Ravera
We came here for dinner. We ordered the pork belly with tempura banana, calamari and croquets to start. They were all really good, though the calamari dish was a bit too smokey from something that tasted burnt.<br/><br/>We then ordered the salmon cerviche and son of butcher's man. I was told this was sold out early in the evening. Then ordered the butcher's daughter, medium rare. The salmon cerviche was good, but lacking in flavour. The steak instead came closer to medium well which was disappointing considering the hefty price of this steak.<br/><br/>Service was also fairly slow. We kept having to call and order from a different waiter and never knew where the waiter we met when we sat down was.
Kev0's Food Adventures!
Had a great night out with friends at La Boqueria, the Venue is really nice and well decorated, the post box bar was really cool. Our waiter, was friendly and attentive. We had some Oysters as starters, lamb chimichurri and salmon ceviche salad and rice bowl side as mains. The lamb was tender and tasty, being cooked over coals adds a nice taste to it. The cheesy bean rice was amazing. Salmon salad was nice, but the salmon was a a tad bit too salty. The edamame beans was a great addition. The only negative was that the food servers sent my side of rice to another table, so had to wait for a fresh one which was an annoyance. (Not our waiters fault though). Great selection of gins and cocktails. Lots of hostesses and managers walking around, but not one came past to check up on us and ask how the evening went. Overall a good dining experience.
Junior
Loved the tapas menu. I’d definitely recommend the short rib and the goat cheese. The food is really great and the ambience of the place is fantastic.
Aviwe Palesa Mgobozi
Warm lovely hidden gem in parkhurst. If you not into tapas tho I suggest you don't come here. Food is largely in tapas form..look and feel is great! I'd come again. :)
Ben Mendelson
Fantastic atmosphere, great cocktails and awesome paella. Would need to book on the weekends. Well worth a visit. Don’t miss out on the starters!
Mauro D. Cariano Nave
First time and blown away by exceptional food and service, even though there was not even one table to spare, food cooked to perfection and deliciously seasoned. Had the marisco paella and the kabob lamb. Thoroughly enjoyed the tapas starters too.
Felix Mthembu
Enjoyed their tapas menu. Wide selection with generous portions. The place has an electric Joburg buzz of business and casual diners with a few celebrities spotted on that night. Service was attentive, good wine selection but their flavored teas are the best. Will be back soon.
Philani Qwabe
I must say, La Boqueria could make it onto my top-10 list of restaurants that are aesthetically pleasing with excellent service and accommodating staff in Johannesburg. Small menu but the food was delightful, especially their mouth watering tapas. If you do visit this place, I recommend you try their albondigas and crispy prawn taco’s, you won’t regret it !
Catherine Nyathi
Great relaxed vibe, variety of options on the menu. We especially loved the coconut almond tea ☕...ideal catch up place with loved ones and hosting functions. Unfortunately they didn't have lactose free milk
Noluthando Lushozi
I give this place a 5 out of 5 immediately. Usually one struggles to get amazing vegetarian dishes at restaurants, and most are average at best. Bu t the angel hair mushroom pasta was absolutely AMAZING. I couldn't stop eating it and there was so much on the plate. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meat meals, one had chicken skewers and another had tempura prawns- which they all raved about. The ambience is also hundreds, great decor too. I must visit.
Rethabile
This space is visually pleasing to the eye - the deco is a haven for design inspiration - and its warm colour pallet and coziness was the right dose I needed for the August chill. It was fully booked inside the main restuarant so we were given a table in the patio area which was suprisingly warm.<br/><br/>The Mushroom Fideua I went for was baby spinach, mushrooms, peas and an Asiago cheese mixed in to a string pasta. The dish seemd small at first but was very filling so it's safe to say the portion fit the meal.<br/><br/>The only bother I had with the dish were the chopped spring onions that were sprinkled on top of the Fideua as a garnish of sort but it was an overkill of flavour which the meal actually could have done without.<br/><br/>Between them, my mother and brother had a Boqueria Bhudda and a Borracho Pork Belly respectively. Mom's went for a G+T, he went for a pear and lime flavoured virgin G+T. I had the "I met a strange lady" cocktail - it was fairly good, the ginger ale in the drink made it a bit more interesting and the barman was generous with the rum.<br/><br/>Our waitor was attentive and served us well. Overall a lovely evening out and a lovely first time experience. I will be back.
UrsulaD
Fabulous ambience and decor. The food was delicious and the cocktails yummy. Staff friendly Will definitely be visiting again. A wonderful experience
Nikita
We had a lovely experience. <br/>Our waiter , Moses, was incredible . He was super attentive , kind, and efficient. <br/>The food was lovely! <br/>They have a nice vegetarian selection, so we were happy. My only concern is that some dishes are not really value for money. But that’s okay, because the vibe & service makes up for it.
Ashdesai5
Good quality food. We had a rough experience with the service though, which when we complained their GM (Conrad) was kind enough to offer us a free meal whenever we returned. Not sure if he will still be there to honor it though. Our favourite is the Auvergne dish, the Lamb empanada dish, the baked fish and the Churros for dessert,
Kgahliso Molaba
One of my favorite spots in joburg! Love that they found a clever way of opening wines without decorking the wine, giving over 30 wines to drink by the glass.
Lenee Green
Fabulous place, friendly staff, interesting options on the menu, the lamb and ribeye were delicious, impressive wine list - good options by the glass, great experience overall
Vanessa Cooke
Please dont deny people seating space inside, seems you try force people to sit out front to make it look vibey from the road. There was plenty space inside.
Khwezi Ngcobo
Beautiful restaurant. Our waiter was quite helpful when it came to cocktail suggestions although they really were not stingy with the alcohol in the cocktails, which I’m not mad about. We opted for tapas, they were tasty and full of flavor. Will be back soon!
Lungelo Mnguni
The hostess wasn’t friendly or patient with us. Besides that I love this place - we had a great waiter (Captain); great food; and the decor is great!!
Thabang Kgobe
Great and wonderful place great food enjoyed the linefish and place is exquisitely design and offers great atmosphere for catch and chat over great meal
Noluthando Zulu
Finally got to try this place. The setting is lovely and the staff is super friendly.<br/><br/>I tried the seafood paella...not cheap at R500 but hey...it's my birthday week. The flavors are incredible and the prawns and mussels are cooked really well. However...the rice is so over cooked it spoils the whole meal. If im paying that much...I shouldn't be eating stoggy rice
Laullie
Had lunch at La Boqueria for the first time this week. As expected the decor is beautiful. The food exceeded my expectations and so did the cocktails. <br/><br/>We had tapas for starters and only when ordering our main dishes did I realise that the service was phenomenal. Our waiter Captain was friendly, attentive, professional, punctilious and very knowledgeable about the menu and offered to help with a few suggestions should we not be sure about what to order. Captain went as far as asking if one of my friends was lactose intolerant because he noticed that she did not want any butter or cheese in her dishes. Wow!<br/><br/>Thank you for the hospitality ( Because I felt at home) and I can not wait to return!
Armand Coetzee
Had an amazing experience last night, what a great atmosphere friendly people all around.. Food was out of this world. Will have the mojo pork belly taco all day long.
Megon Norman
The food at this place was the best I’ve had in a very long time, cocktails were amazing too. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Definitely a must try!
Candice
Tonight was my second time at this beautiful restaurant. The decor is amazing, every detail is thought about carefully. The food is incredible, I highly recommend the Mushroom fideuá, it’s the best thing I’ve eaten in forever. The pork belly and chipotle chicken are delicious. The fried olives might be my favourite with a glass of the Bosman Sauvignon Blanc. What makes my night even better from beginning to end is the playlist. I can identify every song from my own library. A must is the chocolate nemesis for dessert. Yum. I’ll be visiting La Boqueria many times more. Thank you.
Penelope Mzimela
Beautiful place, service can be improved and table booking is very important. Only had cocktails as they couldn't get me a table an hour later😩
Zinzerella
The food the food the food!!! Honestly this is on my top 3 list simply for the food. Service is generally quite good as well, really worth a try.
Herro This Is Shitty Wok
Let me off start of by saying WOW!!! This place used to be the old Wombles in Parktown. And honestly the standards haven’t even dropped. This place from the decor to the staff and the amazing food that they serve here is so worth a night out in Jozi. I was skeptical at first trying out a new restaurant and all but boy am I mad at myself that I haven’t been by here sooner then last night. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you are welcomed not only with the hostess but the managers come around frequently to be sure that you are enjoying your evening and that everything is up to your standards. And the food not is it only properly cooked but it comes out in a timely matter. Trust me when I tell you I am a meat and potato guy all day but decided to try the Summer Harvest which is a vegan option and it was absolutely delicious. My wife tried the octopus ceviche and she couldn’t stop eating it. Had to order the calamari Tapas just to be sure that the 2 first meals weren’t a fluke and by no means where they. This place is a hidden Gem in Parktown and if you haven’t been I don’t know what you are waiting for if I could have given this restaurant a higher review I would have. My only complaint is I don’t live closer to the restaurant because I would be there Mon-Sun. Plan on visiting again next week for some more good eats!!!!
Nezabee
Cosy with great service. The wine selection is superb. I really enjoyed my night here. The only downside was the food. Limited menu and the food isn’t all that great which is unfortunate as the ambiance of the place is everything and more.
Richard Soldin
Great ambience. Great food. Great service.<br/>The trifecta of any great restaurant.<br/><br/>Bravas was very good. An unassuming little dish which might not have entirely emulated the traditional version, but may just have surpassed it.<br/><br/>Goat's cheese with pesto and tomatoes was a good mix. Very delicate balance of flavours.<br/><br/>The main with mushrooms and angel hair pasta (memory failing me on the name) was great. Rich, full flavour without being overpowering. The dish is similar to a mushroom risotto but much better for not being pumped full of truffle oil which can be far too rich for my tastes. Risotto is great dish but one can't eat their way through the size of portion that is usually found whereas the angel hair pasta is a lot less dense and you feel like you can eat your way through the whole dish and still have space for dessert.<br/><br/>The kabob was lovely; perfectly cooked and very tender. The accoutrements on the side didn't seem to pair too well for me. The kabob benefited from the flavours but I felt that something else might have done it for me. The diced salsa was hard to eat and I found myself looking for something to accompany it. There was a mix of peeled tomatoes and onion which I didn't love, although I'm not a fan of tomatoes for tomatoes' sake.<br/><br/>The Chipotle Chicken was sublime. Lovely mix of flavours and only a hint of warmth. Diced potatoes on the side were a bit much after opting for a Bravas before the main and would inevitably seem plain after the Bravas.<br/><br/>My only recommendation would be for better and more creative dressing for the mains. I would always forego a "normal" side dish in favour of tapas so while sides are available I imagine that some people wouldn't get them. A little bit of the angel hair pasta mixed with a sauce with some complimentary flavors to the kabob marinade would go a long way to making the plate itself more exciting.<br/><br/>Barring that, the food was superb.<br/><br/>Dessert menu was interesting. The gintonic tart was incredible. Not too sweet, but with a lovely citrus kick. Small portion but the perfect way to end. We inevitably went with Churros and while the chilli chocolate was great (exactly enough of a chilli hint) I've definitely had better Churros. Hard to put a finger on but they were just not quite as crispy or soft on the inside as I've been accustomed to. That said, I'd still rank the Churros as a dish an 8 + so try them for yourself!

Great setting and awesome vibe. Attended a birthday dinner here with a group of friends. Unfortunately no lacto-veg options vegan options on the menu.
Ina
The food, service and atmosphere just excellent! With the Coal-fried Aubergine and the Mojo pork belly taco you cannot go wrong. Portions sizes very good; you can do starter, mains and dessert. Not cheap but you get value for your money.
Refilwe
The service was amazing, the paella was to die for. They have a really nice selection of wines. Great tasting cocktails. It was really a treat.
Pei-Lin Chen
Great place for a tapas experience. I had the prawns as my mains for lunch. The food was really tasty. The restaurant is spacious, our friends took a little baby with so the restaurant was family friendly. The price of the drinks and tapas are great for splurges.

This gem of a restaurant is located in Parktown, I love it to be honest! The vibe of this place is something else, the music and the friendly staff do justice to this place. The food was exceptional! I honestly love everything about this place.

Such amazing food and scrumptious combinations of different flavours! A group of us ordered only starters and light meals and all shared so that we could taste everything. I was not disappointed. My favourite dish was the pork wraps sprinkled with a kind of peanut butter crumble. To. Die. For.

Had a great evening at La Boqueria this week. Attentive staff, great ambience and excellent food. The tapas made me wanna hop in a plane to Barcelona. Loved it #love

Loved It here! <br/><br/>It’s where Wombles used to be but they have totally transformed the place. <br/>Food: <br/>Food actually disappointed me a bit the starter was over cooked we had edamame beans which they tried char grilling but ended up killing the taste and bean. The paella was over cooked and soggy. But all in all the ambience was amazing decor on point! I want to give the place a second chance, will defos go back. <br/>

Celebrated a friends 40th Birthday last night at La Boqueria. It was my second experience at the restaurant and the food menu was still a bit avant guarde for me, I ended up selecting the same dish- Butchers Daughter. My matured steak was cooking to perfection (I only have it medium rare). I ordered a plate of chips as a side but that was a bit ambitious because the steak was enough! The wine selection was okay. Not enough white wines by the glass were available so I went with the unwoody Fram. The service was excellent and the overall ambiance was charming. It's not a restaurant you frequent on the regular but the perfect option for a special evening!

I came specifically for the churros so you can imagine my disappointment when at 1pm on a Sunday, they say they’ve run out 🤯😞. Anyway, for mains we shared the seafood paella since it seemed to be a favourite on Zomato. I had one bite and almost gagged. The overwhelming fishy taste was too much for me - almost as if the squid and mussels weren’t cleaned. That may be a very personal opinion considering shellfish isn’t my absolute favourite thing in the world. There was also too much tumeric 🙅🏾‍♀️ The whoopie pie was nice, service was good and the restaurant is beautiful hence my score but the food itself, no thanks.

Perhaps my favorite restaurant in Johannesburg at the moment. Consistently excellent, I have been there 4 times and I am always impressed. If you are a meat lover the “son of a butcher” will speak to your soul

La Boqueria is one of the best places I have been to this year and, I think, will remain my top pick of 2018 unless someone else manages to change that. Although, so far, no luck.<br/><br/>Set in the lovely location of Parktown North (where the Nando's and Woolies centre is) it's location in impeccable. Easy to find and very lively. We went there on a Monday night and I was surprised that it was almost full - this is very unlike JHB. So this should already tell you how awesome the place is - patronage!<br/><br/>The decor is an eclectic mix of Central American artistry coupled with some South Africanisms, which I love! One of the coolest things for me is the bar. It's the centerpiece of this place and rightfully so. It's made out of old postboxes and just feels so well thought-out with the rest of the decor I just instantly fell in love.<br/><br/>For starters we ordered the goats cheese tapa. Now let me say that goats cheese is any easy one to screw up. It's got a very pungent taste and you need to be so careful about where and who you source it from, as well as about what you pair it with. I can honestly say this was the best dishes of the evening (only by a slight margin) and is the best goats cheese I have ever tasted! If you come to La Boqueria and do not have this dish then you have robbed yourself of a life changing food experience. It was beautifully paired with crisp bread, as well as cooked tomatoes and olives. Thank you La Boqueria for doing goats cheese justice!<br/><br/>For my main, I had the Lomo Saltado Kabob - which is apparently one of their signature dishes - which was also amazing! Once again, beautifully spiced, cooked to perfection (medium rare) and paired with an amazing salsa. I also ordered the "bravas" which were delicious on their own, but I did myself a disservice by ordering them together- it was a little too heavy for me. The only complaint I had about the mains were that they went cold very quickly, which leads me to believe that their service may have been a bit slow that evening. It would have been better hot, so perhaps something to work on?<br/><br/>Lastly, I had the churros for dessert. Now growing up in a traditional Portuguese household means I have tasted some good churros in my lifetime. Unfortunately these did not really blow me away. And with Workshop 55 just up the road serving some of the best churros I've had (or the closest to our family recipe) it's difficult to compete on this front. However, this hasn't really affected my scoring as La Boqueria were pretty much spot on in every other area.<br/><br/>Thank you for a great night for food!

It was an exceptionally pleasant experience from the onset. The staff were very well versed with both the wine and food menus and we're around exactly when we needed them. They ensured the glasses were topped up and everyone was well taken care of. <br/><br/>The starter and main was absolutely delicious, well proportioned sizes and perfect in every respect. I had the Calamari and Chorizo starter and for the main, it was the prawns. The only let down for me was the dessert, but that just a personal preference. I had the Gin and Tonic tart for dessert. <br/><br/>The was a lovely ambience which allowed for conversation with a table of 6. This is a definite must try.

Great looking venue , service was on point , the paella was amazing , great flavour and a really good portion . The potatoes brava is seriously yummee. The puddings were just a great way to end a great night .

La Boqueria is a beautiful restaurant with enthusiastic and kind waiters.<br/><br/>Our table started of with gins which are served with fresh grapefruit slices. <br/><br/>We shared several tapas which were served quickly and simultaneously. My favorites were the perfectly cooked queen prawns, the flavorful croquettes and the zesty crab salad.<br/><br/>To end off a had a single scoop of the chocolate ice cream which was creamy and delicious! <br/><br/><br/>

Went for dinner and as it was a week night we didn't make a reservation - they were busy and thankfully managed to accommodate us. The decor is gorgeous, it was warm and cosy. The service was friendly and efficient. I had the mushroom paella and when it was served the smell was mouth watering. The food was flavoursone, with flavours that were delicious and worked superbly together. We had the chocolate tart for dessert and I liked it as it wasn't overly sweet and went well with the meringue. Great ambience. Will definitely be back. With Diana Mak

This restaurant was difficult to rate. The service was exceptional and the decor really beautiful, however, I did not particularly enjoy my meal, especially not for the price they charged. I had the smoked paprika and guava BBQ marinated pork loin chop, it sounded amazing but just didn't deliver, the pork was dry and the accompaniments such as the salsa didn't really add the flavour I expected. I will say that the side dishes were tasty. Ultimately eating out for me is about the food and value for money, and hence, I have settled on a 3.5

Awesome service. First started at the bar with a friend while waiting for a third friend. The bar staff treated us very well while serving our drinks. Menu was abit overwhelming to read and ended up settling for an average dish but the churros were absolutely delicious! I love the location and overall feel of the restaurant

Great food and service. From the tapas starters to the tasty mains to the dessert - amazing. Lemon tart a must! Spacious and comfortable interior. Highly recommend.

Had to see what this place is about- it’s the talk of Joburg! Love the decor here! We sat at the bar because of the construction across the street (on a Saturday). Drinks were good! My husband loved his Mexican chicken but I was not as enthusiastic about the “white fish” ceviche or oysters I had ordered. The bar servers were very nice!

On an overcast Saturday afternoon, this dedication to Hispanic street food boasts a mix and match menu for every party's tastebuds. <br/><br/>As you enter, there is a calm and cool buzz with warm lighting and light hearted decor to keep you cosy, comfy and always welcome.<br/><br/>The menu is very limited for non-beef and pork eaters. <br/><br/>The cocktails are quite pricey but tasty and worth the splurge for any occasion!<br/><br/>What was ordered:<br/><br/>WOOD-FIRED GOATS CHEESE: This was the best dish for me. I've got a thang for any tomato base with some good crispy, fresh bread. The goats cheese was light and not too rich or powerful. The pesto pulled it all together.<br/><br/>MEXICOLA CHICKEN KABOB: The chicken was beautifully cooked and seasoned perfectly. It was not too dry and not too oily. The corn salsa with it added a fresh element to the dish. <br/><br/>WHOOPIE PIE: Opted to have this without the marshmallows as those contain Gelatine which is made from Bovine, found in Beef. This dessert remained delicious even though an element was missing. The cookies weren't too hard to pierce into with the spoon, the gelato in the middle was not too rich and the almonds added crunch to the dish. <br/><br/>All in all, a happy days place with a great vibe and enough space for bigger crowds. <br/><br/>The bar is a sight!! <br/><br/>

Wow! After hearing about this restaurant for months, we decided to eat here for my mom's birthday. The decor is simply beautiful, with a very modern, yet distinctly European flair. The waiters were friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>The food was fantastic! The oysters were fresh and the tapas, paella and prawns were delicious. A warning to those who do not like spicy food: my husband didn't have many options, as almost everything had some sort of pepper or chili. For those who love the spice, I highly recommend the churros and chili chocolate dessert!
