Review The Big Mouth - Johannesburg

Tondani
I really enjoy Big Mouth, I’ve been here twice and both times were great. I love the sushi here, it’s fresh and so filling, the drinks are delicious. The dessert is perfect for everyone, they have really sweet options and just gelato for those who don’t enjoy sweet treats. The service is good but I do feel you can go a while without receiving attention.

Always packed but went during the quiet period otherwise I suggest making a reservation. My waitress was so sweet and checked on me regularly. I had the SUV and Chicago sushi. Was very nice. Beer was nice and cold. Service good. Atmosphere great.

We keep coming back to this place for their sushi. Every visit so far, they never disappointed. Easy to book a table online without a phone call. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great atmosphere and lighting for a dinner of any occasion. Be aware that in peak times you sometimes need to book in advance as it can be fully booked but they do offer seating at their sushi bar if it is full. We cannot wait for our next visit.

Oh my gosh! The food tastes amazing, and the portion sizes are more than enough for one person (We shared each meal amongst us 4, so you can imagine the total ration). The staff are very friendly and attentive, it didn’t take long to get our food. I love that you’re able to see the chefs making your food. The prices aren’t bad, it’s an affordable place.

Delicious food! Great service. Big mouth roll was very good. Seafood pasta is delicious( serves 3x people) Dumplings with cream cheese are weird interesting nice. Ask for Patience! She’s the best

My absolute favorite steak place in all of South Africa... And i have eaten at a lot. The fillet here is melt in your mouth delicious. Great service, beautiful atmosphere... Right on Nelson Mandela square. On a nice day get a table by the square. Also recommend the creamed spinach.

The food is very good and the poke bowl is so filling. I also love the bread they offer while we wait, it’s quite fresh and tasty. The staff is also very friendly, there has not been a time we felt neglected🙂. I just need them to work on the aesthetics of the place, the fish wall paper isn’t cute.

This place is always busy which is testament to their excellent food and service. The menu is really diverse (there's something for everyone),I had sushi which was really good. The cocktails are great as well. I recommend checking it out.

The best fillet steak I’ve ever had in my life! And the Parmesan mash was so good! Tried the Lobster roll as well. Service was good! Very busy so make sure you book in advance

Delicious food and amazing service at the Bigmouth. At some point we had 3 waiters clearing our table and our waiter promptly refilled our glasses of wine. The bread at the start was fresh and tasty, the sushi mains was heavenly and hubby had the tomahawk steak which was also good. We had the creme brulee and churros for dessert. Churros portion was huge! Definitely for sharing. The food is quite expensive so I expected abit more of a formal dress code however with it being so close to the mall, people generally dress casually.

We've been to big mouth a few times. Although I don't eat meat much, my husband loves the steak. Always tender and cooked perfectly. The sushi is always really tasty. They are generally really busy, particularly over weekends so definitely make a reservation and prepare to wait a while

I had visited three times so far. A quite decent place to hang out. The food was delicious. The seating arrangement is not so great, can’t have a private conversation. It is idle to book the seats early.

My favorite place to eat at when I don't know where to eat when I'm in Sandton City.
Every time i visit the place they have been consistent.
From the sushi to the cocktails, the service. I never leave unsatisfied.
I highly recommend it.
The only thing I can really critique is the loud neighbors from time to time. As well as avoid the restaurant around lunchtime if you want peace and quiet, after the lunch hour rush, the noise levels drop a bit.

Ambience: I love how open it is, and the elegant decor.

Service: We had the best waiter. Very attentive, his knowledge of the menu was extensive and he made great suggestions. He made sure not to neglect us.

Food: Tried dim sum for the first time and loved it so much! The cocktails are so amazing, and they're not stingy with the alcohol. I will definitely come back for the cocktails.
Yanga Nkonki
It was a wonderful night, the only thing is the tomahawk steak could have had more flavour. Everything else was wonderful, always a favourite! Bread and Butter pudding was amazing, out of this world.
Anesh Tonisi
The food here is great and Gina and Nomsa gave us the best service!! Definitely going back.
Michael Burger
Been here for lunch and dinner it is a busy viby place, the menu has someting for everyone and the food is well prepaired and tastey with consistent quality.
Robert
Good service. Fresh food well prepared. Highly recommend.

Such bad service, and this visit the food wasn’t up to it’s usual great standard. Very disappointed

This is quite literally my favourite spot in Sandton. Every time I am in town I make sure I go grab a bite.

They have delicious cocktails and their food portions are very generous. I think I’ve taken a to-go bag each time I’ve been there, because the portions were too big to finish.

The atmosphere is also something to write home about, the tables are close together but the service each table gets makes everyone feel like they’re in their own little bubble.

I cannot recommend The Big Mouth enough. Go for a date, go with your friends for a relaxed catch up, go with your family who just got into town. It’s perfect for everything.

I had the pleasure of experiencing the Rugby World Cup 2019 at this chic and sleek restaurant. The menu is filled with simple dishes, their tastes amplified with the freshest ingredients and their presentation on point. The portions are quite generous too. They have an exotic varieties of cocktails to quench all sorts of thirsts. I also give thanks for the complimentary bread which is the softest cloud from up above☁️ Le compangnon and I indulged in the small plate of Hummus served with Pretzel Bread🥨 and the Grill Chicken Paillard served with a Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette and Sweet Potato🍠 (I opted for their Parmesan Mash instead which was to.die.for) Friends that joined the table loved their sushi option. Definitely try the Blush cocktail ☺️. I will return for the Joseph Bread & Butter Pudding which I caught a glimpse of and regretted my opt for savoury over sweet! #ThankYouBigMouth #foodphotography #foodofinstagram #foodography #foodiesofinstagram #foodielife #throwbackthursday #nelsonmandelasquare #thebigmouth #hummus #chickenpaillard #sushi #southafricanfood #southafrica #southafricarugbyworldcup #foodiesofsa #southafricanfoodie

Fantastic sushi, great atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Chicago rolls were outstanding, fish and chips sushi rolls not so much. Could improve on the on tap beer offerings.
Yolanda Zunde
Made a reservation because it’s a busy restaurant. Greeted by friendly staff. Our waitress was friendly, quick service, great sushi the only thing that was a let down was the lobster bun, it was more like 8 little pieces of shrimp on a very thick toasted piece of bread. Not worth R208 for the lobster bun.
Thapi
I really enjoyed my time here. I loved the sushi and the staff is amazing. I really recommend this place.

Sunday lunch with the family at The Big Mouth was lovely. The service was great and the staff members were so friendly. We ordered the pull portion of ribs and chips and The S.U.V sushi. Everything tasted great and the portion was sufficient. One of the best sushi that I have had to date. Really great. Definitely a must visit.

Went for dinner last night to a place that makes probably the best calamari I’ve ever had in my life 🤤 The Big Mouth...
Their sushi was amazing and all in all it was an a great evening of delicious food and the service from our waiter, Tony, was nothing short of superb...
I now know why everyone goes on about this restaurant 💪🏼👍🏼
Kerusha Chettiar
Atmosphere was great, food was awesome

Service okay, ordered the rib eye which you could tell was a cut of meat that was defrosted and cooked, disgusting is actually describing it nicely.
Lauren
The perfect spot for lunch on the Nelson Mandela Square. Always a good vibe, great service and amazing sushi! I’ve heard that their from the grill options are great too - definitely will try next time!
Rita
Our favourite go-to restaurants. The sushi and other dishes are always so tasty. Great service as well. My favourite is definitely their fried squid heads, it’s a must have.
Barend Jakobus Van Wyk
I literally always recommend them to people going to Sandton , their sushi is really good and they have a good wine selection! They also have nice touches to make the experience better!
Joyce Keung
One of my favourite sushi places. I absolutely love their Rock Shrimp Tempura Roll. The place does get quite busy so try and book beforehand or go there early.
Update: Their crispy rice poke bowl is also one of my favourite. It comes in a generous portion and is really filling and healthy!
Christy Lee Edmunds
Everything on this menu is delicious. Their sushi is amazing and probably some of the best sushi I have ever tried. Service was good. We usually hate sitting at the sushi bar but it’s really comfortable and quite nice when you feel like a quick sushi lunch
Raichi Pianahama5%
Great sushi, the issue with the sushi is that we're forced to order like 8 pieces of the same thing from the menu. Thats a problem if you eating alone and you want some variety. I hope that can be fixed somehow.

Good steak
Ribs were a little too much on the sweet side for me.

Nice food overall. Manager is a nice guy

Every visit to the Big Mouth is always pleasurable. The staff are friendly and always on the ball. The ambiance is great too with the restaurant set right in the heart of Nelson Mandela Square. The sushi and cocktails we got were absolutely incredible.

We had the watermelon basil cooler and pina colada - really good.
For sushi, we ordered the Philadelphia Roll, Rick Shrimp Tempura and the Aburi Salmon California Roll, which were really tasty.

All in all 5/5.
Tanika Moodley
Outstanding! I highly reccomend The Big Mouth. It is great for Lunches and Dinners with friends. Cocktails are tasty but what amazed me was the sushi. From all the resturants I've been to The Big Mouth Tops it all, best sushi I have ever had, it was absolutely delicious, mouth watering, I just wanted more! Service was excellent and we didn't wait long for the food, however this could be because we went for lunch.

Oh hunny, the food....
Big Mouth is always busy and for good reason. From appetizers to dessert - all incredibly mouth watering.
The salmon taco is one of my favourites - the ingredients all magically mixed together that becomes one tangy swirl of sweet and delectable savoury inbetween the crunching of taco and soft breaking of salmon. Its really one hell if a symphony. Their Spicy Salmon Pokè Bowls is also one tantalising meal that demands not to be underestimated.
Their churros are amazing too ... but I need to tribute their Josper Bread and Butter Pudding dessert. At first sceptical - fearing unnecessarily rich especially after a tummy-full and already having ordered the churros, my partner and the waiter insisted we try this. How I almost missed out! When it arrived it looked rather intimidating and screamed (RICH!) but the unexpectedly light flavours of the warm custard was an epic hug to your tongue - a comfort for any wet moods in future plus its topped with vanilla ice cream to counter balance the richness - a delightful cold and warm at the same time.
Service was attentive and speedy despite the crowd.

Even though the restaurant is constantly full and busy, the service is phenomenal.

Great location, friendly service, delicious food... but be prepared to pay for what you receive.

But it’s worth every cent.
Foodies.and.Coe
Excellent variety of food at reasonable prices in a lovely location. We visited onna Saturday night in which it was very busy, however service was still sufficient and we were attended too quickly. The sushi was fantastic, whilst sharing a few smalls was a good idea. We enjoyed the giant mushrooms, crispy squid and parmessan mash.
Pashnee Naidoo
Saturday night dinner on the square and Big Mouth was very busy, we had to wait at the bar for a table. After we promptly got a table, the service was fantastic. I ordered the spinach and cheese dim sum and the tempura corn sushi(vegetarian). This is my new favorite sushi spot. Hubby and friends shared salmon roses and peri peri chicken and the verdict was delicious.

I've been wanting to try The Big Mouth for months now, and when my husband and I were invited to a family birthday dinner, I was super excited.

We were a large table of 11 people, however everything went off smoothly. Our drinks and main meals arrived appropriately and our waiter was efficient and hardworking.

The sushi was absolutely delicious. I chose from their signature sushi and was totally satisfied. The cocktails are also pretty amazing. My husband had the calamari dish and loved it. Our table also chose to indulge in the deep fried Oreos, ice cream sandwiches and Oreo jar. What a treat! These desserts are absolutely incredible.

The attention to detail paid on special requests, was incredible. This is something not often seen at restaurants in South Africa.

Thank you for a wonderful evening.

The sushi at Big Mouth is delicious. It’s quite a busy restaurant and the menu is big with many many options but I would highly recommend the sushi. The only issue, is that the service is rather lackluster, we had to constantly wave for some attention.
Nicola Spingies
Went here yesterday for the first time and I was not disappointed. Although the sushi was a bit pricey, the taste made up for it. I ordered the Philadelphia rolls & prawn maki, would definitely recommend. Service was good & staff were friendly despite it being very busy.
Sonja Strauss
Fantastic spot for lunch and sushi. Fresh and tasty. Love the cocktail selection. It can get very busy, but worth the wait, the staff are always friendly and willing to make you feel attended to.
Flemingadamson
The establishment, food and service excellent however paying R200 for a so called lobster roll leaves a lot to be desired. The roll was old the lobster is pieces chopped up and disguised in mayonnaise. This dish requires serious refinement or I would remove it from the menu - only let down.
Regards Fleming Adamson

We ordered the rock shrimp tempura for starters and it was very tasty and fresh. You won't go wrong with ordering their sushi. For mains, my partner and I shared the 500g T bone steak and it was absolutely delicious and filling. We opted for the BBQ basting which gave it a very strong meaty flavour. They are extremely busy on weekends and put your name on a waiting list. They don't take your cellphone number to call you when your table is ready so you have to wait there till a table is free. We waited for about 20 minutes

Great evening out to spoil someone for that special occasion. The seafood pot is excellent and well worth the price that you pay. The salmon dish was a bit over priced for the portion you received. Great vibe and atmosphere though catered more for the international tourist market .

Always fantastic coming here!! All my zimbo friends adore it and loved having my moms birthday here ;) great dinner pre drinks and then head up stairs to one of Jozis favoured nightclubs.
Radha Chhita-Nathoo
Really good quality food, exceptional exceptional exceptional desserts. Very good selection of wines. Not many vegetarian options, however I will be back for the desserts.

We had a conference at Sandton Convention Centre for the week, so this place was recommended. I was feeling like fish, so ordered the fish and chips dish, I didn't enjoy the fish batter, it was far to thick, oily and tasteless. the potions are big so you won't leave hungry.
Katlego Serero
Amazing Salmon and parmesan mash and their sushi is exceptional... loved the oysters too... it was just very busy and the seating was a but uncomfortable followed by our waiter not being attentive to us. Otherwise they have great food.

I went to check this place as it is located centrally within the mall. Very strategically located, well maintained place which will attract everyones eye. Took one beer along with some salad. Since I was alone probably I couldn't spend more time.

Book your table ahead. Ordered Seafood pasta, lamb chops & T-bone. The proportion for the seafood pasta was humongous. I couldn't finish 30% of it. The lamb chops was delicious as well. The cocktails were pretty good as well.

Taste: Amazing king prawns, to die for!
Price: well it's SANDTON City, Mandela square, so Above average
Service: Very good
Overall: a must try, I will be a regular.

My friend and I came here and had the SUV the tacos the spicy tuna maki. The sushi was tasty although the shrimp tempura rolls did keep falling apart in the soy. Despite this - which I feel is the sign of a badly rolled piece of sushi - the service was great and I had one of my favourite waitresses who has moved across from Allora. Mike the manager came to check on us -previously of Primi Rosebank and Melrose - to make sure everything was good. The lonely roll in the picture was all that we had left after a great night out

This place was packed on a Tuesday lunchtime. The hostess was so sweet and made sure we were comfortable with our table. We had our main waitress (Laura), who was fantastic but everyone worked as a team to serve us. The bread they served on the table was crispy on the outside with roasted garlic and the inside was soft and warm. We ordered two glasses of wine and got given ice immediately as it was a hot day. We then ordered a platter of sushi to share. The rainbow reloaded was our favourite and I could see it being served a lot. Great spot to have a meal!

Ambience- 9/10
Food- 8/10
Service- 9/10

Love this restaurant in Sandton and the vibe is really awesome, especially on a weekend. The sushi was divine and the service was superb, definitely worth a try...

Hands down, BEST steak I’ve ever had in my LIFE!

Love the vibe and setting, super trendy. Service is efficient and quick.

Grilled edemame beans, so delicious. And the steak, like marshmallow.

Keen to go back to explore more of the menu. Note: go hungry!

It's quite a high class place (even looking at the prices of dishes suggests that this is a high class place) but they delivered. The seafood pasta had a generous portion and pretty good flavours. Mussel tasted a bit weird but overall, wasn't too bad. Service was okay and effecient. The cocktail drink was pretty refreshing and I liked it.

If you're looking for a celebration of food and to be transported to another world. Had Great service. Food is well presented and made fresh. Best sushi in Johannesburg. Most decadent chocolate milkshakes.

Reservations are crucial as the restaurant is busy all the time.

There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the halaal status of the restaurant. The manager claims that they are “halaal friendly” as their supplies are certified halaal and they do not serve pork. However, it was impossible to find conclusive proof that those suppliers are halaal. This was highly disappointing.

Other than the above, the food was exquisite! Their sushi was expensive but I could rank it up there with the best that I’ve had.

Overall, a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a modern, flavorful meal.
Zimkita Sidumo
The food is delicious...they have an irresistible deep friend Oreo dessert 😋. The staff is friendly and the restaurant has a buzzing ambience, even on a Monday evening.

The booths are the fun seat 😉

I absolutely love The Big Mouth. I have been here on numerous occasions, from the time this place was established and I have never been disappointed. It is slightly costly but you won’t regret it. The waiters are friendly and the service is good but there’s definitely room for improvement.

I came here with my friend who’s never been to Johannesburg and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

The ambience is very trendy and modern. Very lovely deco with lots of light bulbs. You can enjoy the view of the Square while you wait for your food.

We ordered salmon roses, Philadelphia rolls and the popular S.U.V (comprising of rainbow reloaded and prawn). Everything was delicious and I’d definitely recommend our selection.

I cannot get enough of the sushi here, easily now one of my go to spots. The SUV is a must try when you visit the Big Mouth! Went the "small plates" route so that we could sample a bit of everything and we were not disappointed. Worth a visit!
Simone Constançon
Amazing Sushi and Cocktails. A bit pricey but well worth it. A good trendy vibe. Ideal for a date night. Would highly recommend the Chicago Sushi and Pink Gin and Litchi Cocktail!

Ate at Big Mouth for a business dinner. Not many dishes for vegetarians and none for vegans. The Big Mouth needs to cater for vegans as I don't think they understand the meaning. Busy restaurant with good vibe. Settled for veg pasta which was very generous and ended up being tasty. My colleagues relished the meal.
Janet
The food is excellent in quality, taste and presentation. With its warm and relaxed vibe, this is a great place to dine. Recommended for South Africans and visitors to South Africa!
Tam Loves Food
What's not to love about the Big Mouth! Excellent service and delicious food! I was a bit disappointed with my portion size for my mains (grilled kingklip) but nevertheless less food was very tasty. Dessert was a highlight, peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake.. Pity it wasn't a larger slice!
Aarti
It was a busy night. Party of 3 to be seated in 20 min. We were seated in under 6 min.

The food was delicious and the service slightly overbearing cause they wanted us out to seat more people.

We ordered tapas and some sushi. All was well worth it.

On average I would budget R350 a person. Including a dessert to share. We were so stuffed we unfortunately didn't have any dessert.
Thabang Mabala
The food was amazing. My go to place for sushi moving forward. I felt the restaurant set up is a bit clustered which gives minimal room for private conversations. It was very packed, had to wait to get a table but the service was great nonetheless.
Sashin Naidoo
Went on Saturday afternoon for a late-ish lunch with friends. It was quite busy but the waitress made a plan to place a table with chairs to accommodate us. The area we sat in was warm and cosy which made it a very comfortable environment for us to converse and eat. The grilled calamari with chips was really good considering that I did not feel for a full-on meal. Definitely recommended however, I felt that the bill didn’t arrive when asked the first time, we had to ask a few times and ask multiple waiters for our bill to be brought to our table.

On every joburg visit , i eat at least twice in big mouth. Everything is excellent, the meat , the chicken , the sushi... top notch restaurant with a big choice
Zakiya Fareed
Sooooo... we call for a reservation and are told there is no need to reserve a table and that there wont be a wait... 30 minutes after arriving I'm still standing waiting... pretty annoying that after 25 minutes the manager offers for us to wait at the bar... sigh... the food had better be good.
Leish.duplessis
Absolutely love coming here! TBM is great for lunch, casual dining or a relaxed night for 2. I must admit that I haven’t tried a huge variety of the menu as I simply can’t get past the delicious sushi. Definitely a favourite
Love❤food
I love the decor unfortunately everything else was a bit disappointing!

The staff were all over the place rushing around and there was a different waiter/waitress every single time a course was served. I am not sure if it is always this way or it was just this one particular Sunday morning.

It was terribly noisy and the tables are too close to each other.
The sushi and dim sum were satisfying but the mussel pot was bland and tasteless (mussels are normally served in a red sauce but this was a white watery "sauce" ) and the calamari was overcooked!
Dessert was a complete let down so all in all... not a great experience!

Kiara
One of my all time favorite restaurants ! The food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and happy to help! I would highly recommend trying them out !
Akhil Abrol
I really want to give more than 5 stars rating to this restaurant. I do not need an explanation why this restaurant is always packed. I went with my wife for dinner and this was our first time. Well, we arrived JoBurg just 3 days back and have no idea about the restaurants and taste here. Since its near to Sandton Sun, we just went to have dinner. Ordered beers and Charcoal Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Grilled Sweet Corn and Lamb shank with parmesan mashed potatoes. The food arrived with a surprise. The quantity was huge. I wish someone had told us the one dish is enough for 2. The moment we both had our first bite we were like mmmmhh. Tastes divine. Extraordinary. Simple the best ever Grilled Chicken and Lamb shank we tasted so far. The sides were exceptional as well.
Definitely visiting again but will order 1 main and 1 small bite next time.
Cheers!

I had a really disappointing experience at The Big Mouth last night. I went for dinner with some friends, and I was looking forward to a good meal after reading the reviews on Zomato, but unfortunately my experience wasn't too great.

I ordered a crispy rice poke bowel and what I was served could probably be better described as a tiny edamame salad. It only had a few sad pieces of salmon in it, and barely any crispy rice. Honestly the meal was at least 90% edamame. The portion size and content of the meal was shocking compared to the food everyone else got, and it didn't come cheap.

Definitely never going back

Andrew Brand
Not only incredible sushi but amazing food throughout the entire menu.
Good selection of great wine and great cocktails and a very nice location !
Must visit !
Theodora Michaletos
Excellent place for a date night! Very busy and yet still great service! Food comes very fast!

The starters are an excellent choice. We had calamari and deep fried shrimp, both very tasty! For mains, sushi. Best sushi around! From classic sushi to some speciality sushi.

Will definitely return! Worth the money
Quinton Monyake
The big mouth in Sandton is a true fine dining experience. I remember trying their sushi once and it has stuck with me ever since. On my occasion I was joined by a lovely bird which of course I had no problem with. Their dim sum is equally as amazing. Awesome establishment.
Mukhtar Dharsey
Always super busy in the evening and ultra popular restaurant in sandton. Sushi is quite expensive. Have had the fish and chips and quite enjoyed this. When things are busy service can deteriorate somewhat but overall enjoyable experience.
AN
Flavourless, boring food. Tiny portions, considering the ridiculous prices. The drinks were average. The staff were very friendly. Overall, not an enjoyable experience because you just don't get what you pay for.
Chalapathi Rao Immidi
A restaurant that offers cuisine options from East to West. Good one, not necessarily everything they serve is authentic but tastes very good. A place where you can never get bored and can find something different to try every day. Nice place to be in Jo'burg.
Lee
Flavourless Sushi
Watered down pina colada and orange juice
Fully splintered chop sticks
Slow service, but friendly
If you want to charge high prices, deliver high quality
Leanne
5/5! Best place I’ve been for sushi! The quality of sushi was fantastic! Thick salmon pieces throughout which is a Sushi lovers dream. Also you got very interesting types of sushi to choose from - such variety. The steak was also fantastic as well as the burger. Making the whole experience great was also such a friendly helpful waiter. I will definitely be back here. Thanks for a great time and for making my tummy so happy
Reneilwe Letlonkane
Big mouth , meet even bigger mouth! My friend and I absolutely love this place , we are usually the loudest in the place , stay the longest and draaank. I’m not sure if it allows for that but we still haven’t been kicked out- yet.

Yesterday we had ... dhan dhan dhan... sushi🤦🏾‍♀️ after wanting to try something different. Next time. It’s always the rock shrimp and the reloaded rolls that we are yet to finish. We arrived to the circle 1 seater tables , yes those tables cannot seat us two and we were kindly offered another table by a sweet , well mannered man. The lemongrass mojito is a miss , the frozen sangria was ok and from our achievements at a previous restaurant , we went then for the cheapest cocktail and , Houston , we have a winner! The candy one!

It’s great to chill here!
Lily
Absolutely love the Big Mouth, I frequent them a lot. Their see food is great and their sushi is divine, I especially enjoy ordering their signature sushi called S.U.V definitely a favourite for me. I enjoy the views as well, being able to look on at the Square. Love love loooove.

Being in the heart of Sandton, you look for good dining with value for money. The food was absolutely amazing, we had ordered an array of gourmet sushi dishes... so big we couldn't finish! 😊 Good customer service, was warm and friendly. Atmosphere... it's Sandton City, so always bustling.
Melishni Achary
Everything tasted so delicious!Starter calamari, edamame beans and lovely sushi! The desserts were good too.Had the deep fried Oreo and churros

lovely vibe and delicious sushi and steak! we will definitely be back. amazingly quick service too. we were in and out in under an hour and still took 20mins to decide what we wanted. very impressed!
Mona Yao
My ultimate favourite restaurant to indulge in, the quality of food is just too damn high and delicious every time 😍

I still haven't found a better sushi place than the Big mouth and it's my go to restaurant when I'm out with my family.

Although it is a bit on the pricier side, you are definitely getting your money's worth. The portions are decent and really filling.

I always get the rainbow roll because it just melts in your mouth, it's packed with flavour and goodies.
Warren Begbie
Best sushi in town. Also do all other meat and fish dishes exceptionally well.
Service is always fast and efficient. Visit this place regularly and hardly get disappointed.
Lisa Lumley
The food and services is always consistently good here!

They sushi is always delicious and fresh. We ordered the Salmon roses, salmon California rolls and salmon and edamame poke bowl. All of which was delicious.

I also love the complimentary fresh bread and caramel popcorn that gets brought to the table. These little touches make a restaurant stand out for me.
Amy Read
This is one of my favorite places in Joburg. The sushi is fresh, filled with flavor and delicious. The service is consistently excellent. Great value for money. A must try!
Nadhiya
Big Mouth has the best sushi in my opinion. We always order to share here and on the most recent trip we had dim sum, prawn tempura and salmon california rolls. All three were delicious. Service was good and the food came really quickly. It’s a great lunch time spot.

Reasons why they didn’t get a 5 from me are:
- it is a little pricey
- it can get quite noisy, not the best place for deep conversation
- the tables for two are small and quite close together

Still a place you should try though 😊😊
Hungry Ronin
I can see why this place is so popular amongst the local. It has a big, myriad of items menu and dellighful list of cocktails at decent prices. My rainbow sushi and poke bowl of edamame and salmon was delicious and fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. With a table over looking the square amongst the hustle and bustle, TBM was a pleasure to visit.
The Schoeman Brothers
This place has seafood that rivals Koi! I love the food and service is quick. There is a large selection of fancy sushi you would not find at your usual outlets! I definitely recommend it for lunch or dinner.

So, as I live down the road from Sandton city, I’m always ordering the Poké bowls.... specifically Tuna. I can’t help it, but it’s bloody good. Not being an avid rice eater....(am a bit of a health nut) I’ve asked that my rice be replaced with edemame beans. I’m always impressed by the utter passion of the team who are always willing to accommodate. A big thanks to the waiter, Milé who always ensures I get a bowl.
Well deserved 5* from me

Good food and nice atmosphere. It was packed and lively. The staff was super nice and the location was great too with perfect on Nelson Mandela square

We went to The Big Mouth about two weeks ago, from the time I saw the menu all I wanted was their lobster roll, which is what I ordered, it was really tasty, fresh ingredients, the brioche bun was nice and warm, the size of the meal wasn’t overwhelming, it was the perfect size, the seafood was cooked really well and the chilli mayo it was paired with worked really well. Whether it’s worth R191 is debatable but it was something different than what you get in other restaurants. My friend had the crispy rice pokè bowl with salmon which she really enjoyed especially with all the chilli in it, there was an overload of edamame beans though.

For dessert I ordered the Jospers bread and butter pudding which was really too big for me to finish on my own, it was good but I wish I would have ordered something a little smaller 🙈 my friend had the Oreo jar which I tasted and OH MY WORD. It was so decadent and chocolatey and I was in heaven! It was so good, if you love Oreos and you love chocolate you have to order this😐

The service was really good, efficient and friendly.
The atmosphere was quite relaxed for a Friday afternoon. I loved the decor and the design of the lights, it gives the place a very nice rustic yet elegant feel.

I will definitely be back ...because I need to try their sushi next and their creme brûlée🤤

Best sushi I’ve ever had- and I’m from Cape Town so that’s saying a lot ! Prawns and dim sum was amazing too! Everything was fresh and delish!

We went on a Friday night (on pay day) and it was packed. It was noisy as a result but there is nothing the restaurant can do about that. I don't drink but on behalf of those I was with, the cocktails were great. We had the charcoal chicken, Ribs and lamb shank and that tasted great.

Love the black and white tiles n decor. It's an "instagrammable" place. 😂

The prices are fair. R1100 was spent for food and drinks (including alcohol) and a generous tip.

Love, love, love.
The sushi and dim sum I had was so fresh I can still taste it. The restaurant is in Nelson Mandela square so if you’re noise sensitive this isn’t the place for you but you should still go anyway because the food is great. It takes awhile to get to you, but it’s so good when it does! Perfect!

What a lovely experience, from the food, the waiters and the vibe.
We started off with some drinks, I’d recommend their cocktails to anyone and everyone.
Their starters were just the right size and so tasty.
The main courses were amazing and big portions , one cannot understand how good the food is until you’ve tried it yourself.
Let’s not even get started with the pudding. It’s just out of this world.
The decor and vibe is so lovely along with the amazing staff who were so friendly and caring

Superlative service, from Amanda ensuring a great table on the same day booking to Ifrahims' knowledge and sensitivity to my VIP clients needs, from Muslim to Vegetarian he went the extra mile explaining the Halaal choices and subsequent recommendations. A varied menu, the Boerewors and Hummus starters were heavenly. Poke bowls bursting with flavour and freshness. The Rib Eye is a truly generous portion. All portions of fish were succulent and moreish. Great vibe, well located in the Sandton business hub. Stylish and vibey all round!

Amazing place and brilliant food. It's got several cuisines from international to sushi but still does a very good job of serving top-notch food and the prices are not that expensive.

This is a nice, vibey and bustling restaurant which has a lovely view of the Mandela Square. The staff service is good and the menu has loads to choose from. I went for the lamb shank, not the best lamb shank I've had but it was still good, the cocktails were great too.
