Review Cafe Del Sol Classico - Johannesburg

Kaylen Cowan
Such an AMAZING PLACE! My best friend and I went there for lunch and I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. The food was fantastic and our waiter was so kind and friendly. It is also run by a good manager who made sure our food was good enough and treated us with kindness. Thank you guys, for a wonderful afternoon.

Simply spectacular! The food was amazing, the service was impeccable and thoughtful and the decor is timeless. Now for the food, the pastsa was so delicious and tasty. The creamy sauce was so flavourful with succulent chicken piece. Definitely a winner. Then the pozza was perfection, thin crispy base, delightful toppings and no shortness of toppings. Finally the dessert was mouth-watering .so deep in flavours but not overly rich. A chocolate lover's dream.

A Delightful Italian Culinary Journey at Café del Sol Classico I recently had the pleasure of dining at Café del Sol Classico, nestled in the charming Blueberry Square. From start to finish, my experience at this Italian gem left me thoroughly satisfied and eager to return for more culinary delights. To begin the evening, I savored the bruschetta, a classic Italian appetizer. The combination of perfectly toasted bread, ripe tomatoes, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of rich olive oil was a true delight for the taste buds. It set the stage for the remarkable meal that followed. For the main course, I opted for the Fruti Di Mare, a seafood lover's dream. The dish was a masterpiece of flavors, with a medley of fresh seafood - succulent prawns, tender mussels, and delicate calamari - all bathed in a luscious sauce. Each bite was a symphony of tastes, and I couldn't help but savor every moment. The Pizza Margherita was another highlight of the evening. Simplicity at its finest, the pizza boasted a thin, crispy crust topped with vibrant tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil leaves. It was a true testament to the restaurant's commitment to authentic Italian flavors. Throughout my dining experience, the service at Café del Sol Classico was impeccable, our waiter was TK. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the cuisine they served. Their recommendations and warm hospitality enhanced my overall enjoyment of the meal. In conclusion, Café del Sol Classico is a culinary gem that captures the essence of Italian cuisine.

Visited Cafe Del Sol In HoneyDew Randburg. My partner and I had a chicken sesame stir-fry and stuffed calamari. The food was exquisite to say the least. Only down side was the decor of the place, it’s quite underwhelming and plain compared to other restaurants in the city. The Customer service was phenomenal, unlike anything I’ve experienced in Johannesburg. When you talk to the waiter it’s as though you are talking to the chef, well informed and impeccable with attention to detail. The desert was also breathtaking.

Updating my review after visiting for the second time. We received outstanding service from Joubert and Chirac. Joubert had us giggling evertime he came around to check on us. We ordered the chefs special fillet and the pepper corn fillet and the flavor was amazing. The Salted Caramel Crème Brûlée is a must try for dessert!

My wife and I have been regulars at Classico. As we always celebrate our anniversary here!I sent a mail through to make a booking at the new location as it would be our first time there.Though we need to try the Botanico branch.Classio is quite sentimental to us having had our first date there! The service was impeccable as usual, they really did go out of their way to make us feel truly special! What can I say about the food to be honest I’ve never had a disappointing meal here always exceptional! See you guys soon!

Fantastic service and amazing food!! Definitely will be back

Food is top notch. The Sea Bass cooked to perfection. Service is great and it wasn't too full which was lovely. Definitely a foodie restaurant.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Johannesburg. The food is fantastic and service is great with an excellent selection of wines. It's great for date nights or an up market dinner with friends and family. Every visit to Cafe Del Sol is a great experience especially in the new location in Blueberry. The now have pizza which is a great addition to the already brilliant menu.

What a lovely experience! The booking of a table was seamless and the amount of care provided on my booking and table being to my liking was impeccable. The staff were friendly, attentive and kind. The food was wonderful, plated beautifully and portions were well suited. Overall, we had a fantastic dining experience.
David Perrett
Love their stuffed calamari and calamari limoncello. Just so tasty 😋
Krishin Stephen Pillay
If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. The food is Soo incredible. Service was impeccable. And amazing place for a date. Go here you won't be disappointed! Someone , I presume to be the owner or manager , was carefully inspecting all the food coming out of the kitchen and I did see her send some plates back to the chef's. This was brilliant to see one of the reasons that makes this place incredible.

Beautiful meal. Unassuming spot with amazing food. We ate the fresh butternut ravioli special, the pork roll, chocolate tart and pavlova - all 10/10. A wonderful last night of our holiday. Thank you.
Kayleigh Spanidis
Absolutely stunning! Perfect anniversary restaurant - also such delicious dishes.. the decor is beautiful. Save for special occasions . Quite pricey but understandably so.
Mario Fazekas
Date night is a great concept. Focaccia starter, ragu with fettuccine and stuffed calamari for mains, a bottle of sauvignon blanc vino and hazelnut icecream.

Squisito! The whole experience was perfect. From the booking to the last morsel. Just wow. The quotes on the walls are very inspiring, and one particular will always guide my path. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” Marianne Williamson.

What a fantastic evening out. The ambience, food and service was exceptional. Thank you for going out of your way to make the evening special for us. The roses and lighting were perfect. Compliments to the owners, management and staff on a superbly run dining establishment.

Cafe del sol is my go to for genuinely always good fine dining food. The dishes are always fantastic and tasty. The ambience is modern and clean. The service is brilliant. Really a place to try.

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants hands down.my wife and I had our first date here l.you can’t go wrong with anything you order.the service and food is impeccable!!!!i prefer this to the bryanston location only because I think it’s a bit more intimate.

Amazing food, drinks, and ambiance. Excellent services friendly staff and manager we were greeted with a smile. I will definitely call in again.

Thank you!
Loveroffood
Went there for a romantic evening, and although we booked last minute, they still managed to find a space for us, the atmosphere was lovely, the staff amazing and super friendly made us smile all the time and the food absolutely mouth watering delicious. Will definitely go back.
Kamini N
After so long wanting to try Cafe del Sol we finally did and wow, food was amazing, the restaurant is pricey but the food is definitely worth it. I had the Aurora gnocchi and hubby the arabiatta, and a lemon curd cheesecake takeaway. Food was amazing and we will definitely be back.
Marco Distefano
First time I did not enjoy
Only 3 specials on offer which were boring
Starters not great
Had seafood pasta had no taste what’s so ever
Had chocolate tart seems half the size I normally get
Restaurant very cold ( winter)
Sorry for the price seems very average
I have been there many times first time it was this poor
Pooja Bagrath
Recently celebrated a birthday here; lovely & friendly service.
Food was fresh, delicious and well prepared with good sized portions.
Will definitely be back to try some of the other things on the menu.
We had a recent anniversary dinner at Cafe Del Sol, and they did not disappoint.

Our waiter had a fantastic sense of humour and was always attentive eithout being intrusive - I've never experienced such excellent service before.

The food is utterly amazing, with a fantastic variety and mouth watering flavours.

Cafe Del Sol Classico should be a must visit for everyone, at least once - and then again!
Marc Gower
Always a great option although the menu could be updated to keep regular clientele.
Shared the Parma spring rolls - seem pre-prepared and could have been a little warmer.
2 Chicken breasts on risotto. Great suprem cuts on a slight stodgy risotto - a good and very generous meal. Rack of lamb, pretty pricy, a little over done considered we orders medium. Served with risotto. All in all a very generous and good meal.
Ambiance clean and light although a little noisy.
Nina Randleff-Rasmussen
We used to enjoy coming here. It's been five years, and the menu has stagnated apart from the prices. The calamari is excellent and the fillets are great, but that's it. The wine list clearly caters to the international market as you're unlikely to find more than two wines under R500 a bottle, and every time I try something new I'm disappointed and flabbergasted at the price. While I am continuously overwhelmed by the bill, I am too often underwhelmed by the food.
Jason Coates
The best Alfredo I have ever had. 5/4 For that alone I give the 5 star experience. Fresh Tagliatelle beautifully and delicately crafted. Then the dark chocolate gelato and almond semi freddo stood out. The other pasta dishes needed an extra finesse. Authentic Italian management and owners and training Johannesburg chefs and staff must be an epic act of love. I'm writing this 30.minutes from leaving so my impressions are fresh and raw. You can see that the owners have put in passion and attention to detail. Put down your smartphones and soak in the ambience of a vibrantly natural social environment. Good for couples and adult groups. Leave the rugrats at home. An impressive sampling of French Champagne, Italian bubbles and a high class range of South African MCCs and other wines. Go for the best and enjoy. I had 2 desserts due to greed and enthusiasm. Save up. Take friends and get happy raucous.
Jessica Notelo
Once again an outstanding experience. The service is professional and friendly, and the food is amazing. We all shared all the starters on the menu, my favorite being the Italian Springrolls. The ravioli did not disappoint, with a light truffle cream sauce. We look forward to our next visit.

How i did not make my way to Cafe del Sol after living literally around the corner for 2 years. So i finally got around to it and my experience was really good.

I love the open space feeling and the fact that you can see what is cooking in the kitchen, it gives a very homely feel and you are relaxed the moment you sit down. Also a big shout out to the hostess, se was amazing and really made us feel so welcome.

We started of with fried squid and the ravioli of the day. The garlic aioli that came with the squid was creamy and rich, but it was the ravioli filled with porchini and ricotta that really blowed me away.

We ordered mains, i was in the mood for some just good honest pasta so went with the arrabiata sauce, it was nice and the pea shoots added a nice flavour. We also had the crispy chicken breast with porchini and truffle sauce, and it was WOW!

Deserts were the chocolate fondant, loved the caramalised orange peel, and added lovely contrasting flavours. Will definitely return to try the other menu items

The food is fine. It really is fine. But when you combine the wildly high prices and the TINY portions, it just isn’t remotely worth it. I’ve been once in person and ordered 3 times. Today was my last order - I should have learned my lesson. Time to order a pizza...I’m still starving after that tiny salmon a la vodka
Zandisile Nhlapo
The food here is always great. Unfortunately what makes a restaurant is beyond food, it’s the experience. The waiters are quite friendly but the owner is a cold racist! She went to the tables with Caucasian people only to ask if they enjoyed their meals & literally passed me like I was part of the help yet I came to spend my money in her expensive establishment. Here’s a piece of advise, when you run a restaurant or any business for that matter, ALL customers matter. Surely I don’t have to tell you this seeing that the establishment has been around for long time. My ‘black’ money matters & it’s also worthy of courtesy.

My first experience at a cafe del sol was at the parkhurt branch for their out of this world risotto. That visit could possibly have spoilt me. Alas, I came here and found the service and food both to be great but still not as amazing as parkhurst. I had the steak which was lovely but not something you can’t get anywhere else.
Gergana Young
The service was really good, our waiter had a great sense of humour and made our night quite entertaining. The food was nice, especially the pasta, but some of it was a little bit expensive (like the steak).
Tarrin Jacobs
We had a lovely time. The oxtail risotto was incredibly delicious and the steak was good as well. The service was great and the ambience was just perfect.
Natalie Lazaris
There is nothing better than a classic old school Italian restaurant. With mama in the kitchen, the attention to detail and quantity of the food is exceptional. A delicious mix of taste and authenticity. This restaurant is a must for any meal, remember to book as its a busy spot. Worth going back again and again.
Gerhard
Have been there a couple of times since opening and it is the first time that we had to send back food because it was not to the usual standard. The managers did not worry about it.
Very disappointing
André Zahnue Smit
Great experience. Sercice was exceptional. Did a 3 course. Starters was good, main was good, but pairing was interesting. Desert was the highlight.
Frans Sauermann
We went here for our first anniversary. In the booking I mentioned it and they went out of their way to make it special. Rose petals on the table and custom desert. Great place, great food!
Kegs.farrow
Amazing food, great service, stunning ambience!!! Somewhere we would love to bring our family back to to impress them too! You can’t go wrong!
Peter
What a great experience. Service friendly and attentive. As a family we shared our meals which in order of excellence; peppered fillet ordered rare which it was to perfection, great taste; duck ragu with tagliatelle, also wonderful flavor and finally chorizo with Napoletana sauce, also good but not in the same league as the other two. Deserts, also shared and in order of delight: chocolate tart (OMG), lemon merengue pie and creme brûlée. All round a great experience. I will be back.
Jess Cleenverck
I came here for my birthday and it was fantastic. Food was incredible and brilliant wine list. Only problem was the price of wines per a bottle was extremely expensive which was a bit of a let down. But the wine by the glass was generous and served in a beautiful glass. Starters of mussels was amazing and the home made pasta was think and beautiful 😍 overall a lovely experience with amazing service.

So we tried out this place based on their 4.8 star rating, we thought it must be good in comparison to their competitors with the same rating. Were we not wrong?! Their napolitana and arabiatta sauce was just bland, I’m not sure if we should’ve tried different dishes. We were underwhelmed to say the least, these guys need to do better. The service was cool though.
Nadine Garcia
Excellent mains, I had the Bacon and Brie Fillet. It was buttery smooth and cooked to perfection. For desert I ordered the salted caramel creme brûlée with popcorn ice cream, it wasn’t quite set and the accompanying ice cream flavor wasn’t available, creme brûlée was still good. Will be back to try the fresh pasta dishes made daily.
Taz
Excellent food, excellent service... Thank you.
Seems like there is a different menu in summer and winter - which I totally appreciate. The Avocado Ritz was awesome, partner ordered the Springbok Carpaccio - lovely! Ordered the Aglio Olio e Pepperoncino and the Bacon and Brie Fillet for mains - both meals were devine. Service was excellent
GTM
As always food was truly excellent and absolutely tasty with generous portions. From the moment we walked in all staff was welcoming and very helpful.
Leigh Ann Cox
Our first experience dining here was every bit as good if not better than all the reviews we had heard. Fantastic food, fantastic professional staff, We will definitely be back to try every item on the menu. Highly recommended.
Bianca
Food, service, atmosphere... everything was amazing! No complaints at all, best food i have had so far in Johannesburg. Staff makes you feel so welcome and they are so friendly
Hanlie Preller
Seafood risotto was the best seafood dish we ever had. Pork belly special was very tasty but a bit too dry and lacked depth of flavour - swallowed it down with wine; if it was more juicy would have rated it 4.5
Talya Basche
Was disappointed this time. We ordered a spaghetti bolognaise take away and it arrived in a child’s portion size. For R140 this was a real disappointment. The spaghetti was over cooked. I feel your delivery customers should be treated the same way as your sit down customers when it comes to effort. We have been to eat many times at cafe del sol Classico and have never been disappointed but this will be the last time we order or go to cafe del sol. We did call the manager and but nothing came of it. I enjoyed the sauce.
Ansa Kruger-Staudinger
I think might have ordered the wrong dishes. Food was really average. Decor is lovely and staff very friendly. The rest of my family enjoyed their food. Just be aware that their alcohol prices are ridiculously high and it works out cheaper to take your own and pay corkage
Lizelle Bendall
We visited this establishment as it is the first of the Cafe del Sol series of very successful restaurants. The setting at a very casual shopping centre is not great and is not the best premise to the great food and service you can expect therefore not a 5 rating. Hubby and I both opted for the risotto. The aroma filled the air as it was freshly prepared. Portions were big and the flavours exceptional. We can highly recommended the seafood risotto for a hearty meal and the mushroom for a more subtle comfort meal. Both delicious! Service exceptional.
Craig Amos
Very, very good. Celebrated a birthday here recently, the whole experience was memorable. Service was great and the food was exceptional. I enjoyed their no compromise attitude to quality produce. Food was seasoned properly and well presented. Certainly a place for special occasions.
Sashin Naidoo
Really great establishment for fine dining. The chorizo pasta was really good with a cooked tomato & onion pasta sauce with just enough sliced spicy chorizo. The choice of penne pasta was boiled to perfection, el dente to be precise, the way pasta should be prepared in my opinion. All this goodness was washed down with a glass of a red, Tokara Sauvignon Cabernet 2014 wine. The restaurant can be quite noisy as tables are closely spaced but all in all I would definitely have another good meal from here.
Andile
I absolutely loved this one! Before eating the divine food, we had excellent service from the owner as well as our waiter. I can’t wait to go back :)
Sonia Pereira
Unexpected Gem in the middle of an unassuming shopping center. Food was fantastic from the stuffed calamari and light gnocchi. The desserts were a 10 out of 10. Service friendly and quick. Will definitely come back.
Lisa Van Vuuren
Still the favourite of the Cafe Del Sols! The original and best. The food is unerringly excellent and the atmosphere is lovely and unpretentious. If you haven’t been here you should definitely go.
Errin Brits
Came here for my anniversary with my boyfriend. The ambience, service and food was sublime. Highly recommend Nonna’s Ragu and the Brie and Bacon Fillet was the best fillet I have tasted. Perfect for a special occasion.
Sushi-Sue
5 stars because: the food never changes 👌 always exceeds expectations 👌 the variety 👌, friendly chefs 👌location 👌angel prawn starter was delicate and amazing
Ria Fraser @CityFlavours
This is the original of the Cafe del sol franchise. It is situated in an unpretentious shopping center and unfortunately overlooks a parking lot, but that is where the disappointment ends. The food is out of this world, perfectly balanced sauces compliment their handmade pasta, the wine is amazing and the service excellent.
Buff D
Food is fantastic 😍😍😍😍

Ordered for delivery & honestly, it knocked my socks off.

Stuffed Calamari, absolutley amazing!
Sesame chicken with angel pasta is amazing
Lemon meringue is perfection

10/10 Highly recommend!!
Jaco De Wet
Awesome restaurant with great decor! If you're bored with your date you can read the quotes on the wall. The food is really something special! Expertly prepared and presented. Really one of the best culinary experiences in Johannesburg!
Carol Stewart
Having eaten at Olivedale Cafe Del Sol many times in the past, I was excited to take some guests from the US to one of my favourite restaurants in Johannesburg in December. I was so disappointed with the food this time. The service was fairly good, but the food was underseasoned, cold, and lacked the visual finesse I was expecting. We ordered some of the same dishes we’ve eaten before, and sadly it just felt like the standards have slipped - possibly indicated by the ease of getting a booking the day before, and a number of empty tables, which I’ve also not seen before at this restaurant
Reshma
Been here at least on 3 different occasions and each time I have never been disappointed.
The welcome warm and there is quite a buzz when the restaurant fills up. It’s not a quite place if that’s what you are looking for and expect a few families as well.
My favorites are the Limoncello cocktail and the porcini risotto with chicken breast.
I have tried the ravioli dish and calamari with limoncello sauce and they are equally as good.
I will continue to be a patron here as it offers quality and value for money.
Johan-vr1
Excellent meal out with my wife. We started with the Springbok Carpaccio and crumbed squid heads which were both delicious. Next I had the lamb pasta special and my wife had the fillet which was devine. We washed it all down with the pavlova. Excellent meal, great service. The meal was quite expensive - our bill came to R700 without drinks so only for an occasional treat.
Linda Notelo
I think this restaurant might serve the best food in the world.
If I could afford it I would eat there once a week.
Service and staff also incredible.
I have never had a dish that disappointed me there and I’ve eaten there 4 times now.
Chloë Hagemann
I was excited to try the original cafe Del Sol on Saturday night, but I left seriously disappointed after having visited the other two branches in Parkhurst and Bryanston. Mussels were cold when they arrived and service was slow. Not worth going back.
Braam Grové
Had an awesome time again.
Had the Avo Ritz for starter. Well presented and very tasty. Wife had the chicken liver starter. Best I've tasted. So so soft.
Daughter had the crumbed squid heads with mayo on side. Squid didn't taste like anything and the homemade mayo also lacked taste.
As always the seafood risotto was the hero of the main courses.
Service excellent, wine good but overall very pricey.
Andrew Lu
Let me start by saying this is the best god damn restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. No I’m not exaggerating. Atmosphere was warm and cozy, not too intimate but seatings were far enough to keep conversations private. Service was on point, waiters were professional and friendly. We ordered the fried mozzarella ball starter, light and very well put together. Main course arrived not long after we ordered: lamb pasta special and fillet steak served with gnocchi. Now you think you know steak, but you don’t know a damn thing, not until you’ve had this 250gram of grass fed perfection. And you think you know pasta, but you still don’t know a damn thing, beetroot infused pasta cooked with tender off the bone lamb, very light but delicious af, leaving you with just enough stomach for dessert. I’m not even gonna finish writing this my dessert has arrived, y’all are fools if you don’t try it out.
Stacey Norsworthy
Located in a small shopping center in Northriding. Great service & great food. Food is not only beautifully plated but delish! Would defs recommend this one👌🏽
Nicole Kruger
Wonderful restaurant with fantastic service.

Bookings were quick and simple. This restaurant gets busy, so bookings are critical.
Upon arrival we were welcomed and taken to our reserved seats. Gentleman by the name if Mike happily explained the wonderful specials on the menu. (I love restaurant's that still do this)
Foods included fresh pasta specials, chicken stir fry and calamari. Food was well presented and full of flavour.
They did a very special desert for my Mother's birthday surprise, they brought a delious sorbet which was an awesome touch.
Lots of food and wines to try, we will definitely be back.
Lili-Ann Papania
This is one of my favorite restaurants and Sunday lunch was no exception. The food was absolutely fantastic. The entire experience was wonderful.
MelC
Our favorite restaurant in Johannesburg by far. Consistently great food and service for the past three years we've been regulars there. Try the aglio pastas, rack of lamb with mushroom risotto or the ravioli offering. Dessert, pavlova or sorbet. To drink, the limoncello is perfection.
Dani Gama
One of my favorite restaurants in Joburg. From the get go you are welcomed into the Cafe Del Sol family. When booking you are introduced to the concept and the experience is followed through until the last bite.
The wine list is extensive and each meal has a specific glass suited to the meal. Ask your waitron for advise before ordering.
This is a great restaurant to have a celebration.
Candistripe
Known for their gnocchi. And it was just what I expected. Their signature gnocchi walnut and Gorgonzola. Their pasta best in town. Homemade to the core. Lovely you can get a booking on the day but with the upmost quality of food. I come here anytime for a treat. Classico is more understated and is not overhyped like Botanico.
Sesh
Dinner here was not what I expected, having been frequenting the other two branches, expectations were high. On the decor and setup it certainly isn't as posh and stylish, it has a coffee shop feel with a view of an open kitchen.

The intention was mains and dessert but ended up just being a main. The lamb with risotto lacked flavour, just a grilled piece of meat on an average risotto. The porcini chicken read well on the menu, but it was a boiled flavourless chicken slightly seared in a pan with not much crispy chicken skin and a bit of chicken hair still visible. The dish was sent back and due to us attending a show, the wait for a replacement meal took abit long, we got the bill and left. Service was average.

On the plus side they keep the same cocktail and good wine selection as their other branches. Will stick to those.
Ezelda
Was hesitant to try this as the shopping centre seems a bit deserted. Went for dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. Food was well prepared and fresh. Will definitely be back.
Joshua De Wit
We are frequent visitors to your restaurant and would just like to say that not once have we been disappointed. Except that one time where we tried to book half an hour before arriving and you were fully booked.... But that's me. Leaving things until the last minute.

Your food has always been perfect. Each meal has impeccable quality and taste and not once have I been disappointed. To all the chefs and service people, thank you for all your hard work and great service. See you soon.
Tilen Chetty
The lamb and pea risotto is one of the best dishes on the menu. Service is always superior and staff members are quite efficient even when servicing larger groups.
Kirsty Morey
Lovely restaurant in all respects! Great atmosphere and food. Pastas here are excellent as are the seafood options and fillet steak. Starters are also a must, I especially enjoyed the crispy calamari. A great option for a romantic evening out with a dose of decadent italian cuisine.
Adrian Ziller
Amazing. Simply amazing. Deliciousness in every morsel. If you're a meat eater you simply have to try their beef Wellington. De-liciousness.
Rene Van Rensburg
I had the most incredible meal at Cafe the Sol... the Chicken dish was absolutely delish and not too overpriced. The wines are a tad expensive. Tye waiters were friendly and there when one needed them.
A fab experience!!!
Brian Coetzee
Had birthday dinner here last night for my wife Carol and family and friends. Great meal as usual. Every one enjoyed it. The service was excellent and food was promptly delivered. I started with fried Houlumi and gnocchi in burnt butter sage sauce. Delish.
Nomtha Makhanya
The food here is absolutely divine. I had the beef wellington which was part of the specials and the Mammas pavlova for dessert. Amazing. The service was good and the atmosphere is great. Would definitely recommend it for an evening of fine dining.
Dallace Rickson Jolly
Never had a bad meal here - ravioli is exceptional and the desserts are worth leaving space for. My only complaint would be that they close a bit early so if you want to make a night of it, you may be disappointed. I have even ordered from Uber Eats to satisfy my Cafe del Sol craving!
Kevin Purves
Haven't been back for a while now, so decided to have dinner there last night. As usual, the service, food and overall charm of the place was amazing. The lamb ravioli special was phenomenal, and their baked cheesecake has to be one of the best in Gauteng! Another 5-star experience; thanks mostly to Mike, our attentive and witty server
Desirée Buchanan
Cafe Del Sol Classico is a great restaurant that delivers consistency with their food. I have been there a few times and only had one bad experience where the gluten-free pasta wasn't cooked well. The manager remedied this asap however.Service wise you sometimes wait a bit long for a waiter to attend to your table, but it is manageable and not too bad.My last experience was a special occasion and despite my boyfriend booking late, they made a plan and seated us inside. When we arrived, the maitre d' wished us happy anniversary, as did our waiter upon arriving at the table, and the manager came after our meal to wish us well too. We were even served a mini dessert treat on the house, for the occasion.I had the Porcini Whisky with gluten-free rice pasta and my boyfriend had the Chicken Sesame Stir-Fry. Both were very tasty and filling.Dessert-wise Cafe Del Sol is a treat, as they're always serving delectable dishes. So it's a great place for a cud of coffee and a yummy dessert. The restaurant has great ambience and decor, so I would recommend it as a place for a romantic dinner or a special occasion.I would have rated it a bit higher, but I do feel like certain elements of the service could be a bit quicker - like serving drinks to the table faster, and visiting the table sooner after the patrons have finished eating - so that their empty plates aren't in the way for so long.
Chinell
Being a book worm and self proclaimed chic-nerd, the decor of Cafe Del Sol completely appealed to me.
I absolutely enjoyed having something "philosophical" to talk about over a delicious meal.

The stuff calamari was delicious: just the right amount of everything. Wish I'd ordered two portions so I could have some the next day.

Th service was great. Joubert (our lovely waiter) so patient and attentive.

A "must visit" to everyone who loves a good meal made fabulously.
Joe Gama
Nice modern decor, windows frosted, plus bamboo screening to block out carpark. Friendly staff and really great food. A surprising discovery in a simple centre.
Hein Lubbe
Most certainly one of the best restaurants I have ever visited! I have been here a few times and every aspect of my experience has always been spot on. The pastas are my favorite - the pulled beef and red wine pasta is divine! Quality ingredients. Freshly prepared. Very tasty! A three course meal will set you back quite a bit, but it is absolutely worth it!
Dale
Amazingly fresh, home made pasta! Cooked perfectly! Staff were very friendly and professional. dessert was delicious. Most of the items on the menu are made in small batches so be sure to order as quickly as you can! Will be frequenting this establishment
Bridget Meyer
They say you are only disappointed when your expectations are too high. Sadly, this was the case for me and Cafe del Sol.

It had been bookmarked and on my bucket list for ages and I'd spoken to people who absolutely raved about their food, so I was expecting to be wowed. Not to mention its impressive Zomato rating of 4.7!

Its decor and location is less desirable than its sibling restaurants but that didn't affect my rating. Our waiter recommended the Pastella Prawns (which were under-seasoned and just tempura battered)...nothing to rave about. I thoroughly enjoyed the Primevera Rolls but whats not to like about melted cheese and ham wrapped in pastry and deep-fried!?

For mains we opted for the Balsamico Fillet and Calamari Limoncello which our waiter informed us were among their signature dishes. Neither of these really impressed me. They were satisfactory, but definitely not wowing.

Have to say I've had better Italian meals and dining experiences in the city and won't return here.
Yolisa PN Malaba
Yummy, yummy, yummy. To the beef Wellington to the various pasta dishes, 10/10. I had the Amatriciana with tagliatelle. The sauce was exquisite. The pasta fresh 👌🏾. My friend ordered a strawberry daiquiri. Best I've ever had. I generally steer away from cocktails 🍹 & stick to vino, but that cocktail was dessert on steroids. Great ambiance! Great service. I was on my medical elective when the surgeon I was working with took me to this absolute gem. It's hidden so well in a little shopping complex.

The food - I had chicken skewers with a really amazing sauce and for mains, I had the seafood risotto. IT BLEW MY MIND! If you're ever heading there, please try it. It's life changing.

They make all their pasta from scratch and once the pasta is gone, it's gone.

Thanks for a lovely lunch!

Best mushroom risotto in town! A classic place in a dingy supermarket setting. Still popular despite another version opening in Bryanston. Good wholesome Italian fare. Guaranteed a good time and a good meal .

A big disappointment. Had a fabulous meal once before before and recommended cafe De Sol to all my friends. Last Friday night the service was slow and the main meals were average to nothing special, especially considering the price. Lamb shank, very ordinary. Stuffed fillet, nothing special, Thai chicken, very amateur. Guys, WHATS GOING ON! BTW average price pp R350.

"Classico" it is! This is undoubtedly my favourite of the trio...mainly due to the "surprise factor" of the most elegant, decadent meal disguised in the most unassuming little shopping centre. The food is always sublime, the service charming and the ambience unbeatable - the ultimate date night venue ❤
Called in to make a booking a hour before dinner and got the unfortunate news that they were fully booked. 5 minutes later I get a call back saying that they made a plan for a table outside. I would of loved to sit inside however the awesome pasta and great service gives this place a 5 out of 5!

Cafe Del Sol is located in a dodgy center but the minute you walk in at the Resturant you literally forget where you are as the food is just so amazing ..
It is not my first time to dine here and have previously tried their pasta dishes and their food never disappoints
Today I thought a review was long overdue

For starters we had the Ravioli and Pastella prawns.
For mains we had the Amatrociana Smokey bacon with Gnocchi
Lamb rack with pea risotto
Vanilla Gelato for desserts
Everything was beautifully played and tasted amazing.
The lamb rack with pea risotto is my absolute favorite 👌🏻
Definitely my fav Cafe Del Sol amongst all the other branches that recently opened
I'm not sure what's going on with the three Cafe Del Sols. Bryanston has always felt a bit too snooty for its own good, Parkhurst has a beautiful interior, but dead average food.
The original Northriding one used to be a real destination, but we had a dud experience there too yesterday. Prices for some dishes are over the top. Mains took almost an hour to come. And when they did were patchy: average or above average, none were great. And portions were small. It was a 15-person table admittedly. Still, the restaurant was only 60% full. The hostess/maitre d' came to make amends, which was appreciated, but just kind of apologized and said they were under-staffed.

It's always been noisy, no different yesterday. The interior was a bit cheap and cheerful before, but looks tired and dated now. Overall, a big (overpriced) disappointment.

It's taken me a while to write this review of Café Del Sol (Olivedale) as I have been contemplating the right words to bring the full experience home.

In a nutshell. The food was delicious (not just sommer your average delicious, like cry a little on the first bite delicious). Hubbs had the fresh steamed mussels with a creamy sauce that had me personally compliment the chef as a little part of my soul died when I scooped up the last bit of sauce (with my fingers) - please note this was not even MY starter. I had the Parma ham wrapped in fresh rocket with strawberries and it was fresh and beautiful..

We went with the waiter's recommendation of the specials/signature dishes - I had the seafood risotto and Dave had the stuffed calamari. The risotto was perfectly cooked and saucy with generous amounts of prawn, calamari and fish, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. The stuffed calamari served with lime spaghetti was was well.. Just wonderful, again perfectly seasoned, fresh and absolutely to die for.

The deserts at Cafe Del Sol is... I'm trying to find words here... Mouthwatering, delectable, exquisite??? Nah none of them will do but you get the idea! We had the cheesecake and the pavlova and I honestly can't say which was better.

We were served by Blitz who was attentive, very well informed, friendly and we'll deserving of a good tip.

An excellent wine selection of both local and international wines and bubbles make it difficult to decide. We went for the Ataraxia Sauvignon Blanc at around R200 a bottle. Really great wine, as we finished 2 bottles between the 2 of us...

Our bill came to around R1300 including the tip which - we were warned it was pricey but to be honest I don't think it really is.

All in all a great experience! Thanks Cafe Del Sol :)

As a serious foodie whose done all the frou frou super-trendy spots there are, as well as everything inbetween - I find myself going back to Cafe del Sol time and time again.

First off, there are only two things in the world that I don't like to eat - salmon and olives. Salmon is too fishy for my palate and olives are nasty, salty and vrot.

HOWEVER - at Cafe del Sol - I will stuff my face FULL with the crispy, chewy, garlicky bruschetta loaded with their homemade black olive tapenade. And one of my favourite main dishes is their black sesame crusted salmon with grapefruit and avo mash. And happily pay top price for both - their food is THAT good!

Tonight's meal consisted of the beef wellington special - medium beef fillet covered in creamy mushrooms, pancetta and puff pastry and served with a thick wine gravy that tasted like it came from Mama's beef stew pot that had been simmering all day. (all 4 of us had our fingers in the ramekin licking out the last bits - soooo good). I had the salmon - see above - and it was as good as I remembered - and only because my first choice of the Butternut Ravioli with parmesan, amaretti biscuits and sage special was sold out *hhhmmpf. Ladies 3 and 4 had the Brie and bacon fillet with parmesan polenta fingers, and the roast chicken supreme with porcini mushroom risotto. YUM YUM YUM.

Dessert ... the cherry on the cake... we took approximately 15 minutes trying to decide which three scoops of homemade gelato to choose from basil, blackpepper, caramel, butternut, oreo, liquorice, coffee, limencello, dark choc, white choc (the list was actually longer). We settled on liquorice (my favourite), caramel and coffee. Gorgeous, creamy not-too-sweet perfection. As well as the berry pavlova (the proper stuff with squidgy sticky crisp and soft meringue, tart berries and sweet coulis) and vanilla panna cotta with fresh strawberry and mint salsa. A bottle of Bottega Fragolino Rosso (sparkling strawberry champagne from the Italian angels in heaven) and cuppachino's to end the meal added to the perfection that was our dinner experience. Amazing wait staff and brilliant service make the price tag ALL worth it. Best branch for food and service - Classico. Best branch with a gorgeous, more private (and quieter) setting - Botanica. Give them a try www.cafedelsol.co.za.
Note: sorry no pics , too busy eating and drinking

Our supper club has been to the Bryanston Cafe Del Sol and this was chosen as our last restaurant this year. In general, I preferred the food at the Bryanston restaurant, but this was still a good evening out. The service was attentive and Grahame kept our drinks topped up. Two of us chose the avo ritz for starters, not the traditional presentation, but very tasty. There was not a huge choice in the line of specials, but the Scottish Salmon with beetroot mash was a winner. The carbonara was AMAZE! Most of us couldn't bare to look at the desert menu, but I convinced my partner to order the trio of sorbets and they were a great end to the dinner.
Corkage is R80, so make sure that any wine you take is really special.

My much anticipated experience at Cafe Del Sol did not dissapoint. While the decor is not that if a typical Italian cafe, it's clean and fresh. The quotes on the wall are a great conversation piece, with us choosing which were our favourites. Friendly staff, who are excited to inform you about the days specials are just lovely. We enjoyed the Italian premevera rolls and smoked salmon parcel for starters. The crispy rolls simply melted in your mouth leaving the lingering smoky flavour or the parama ham. The smoked salmon parcel was fresh and flavourful and the apple sale the perfect accompaniment. Although one could always have more smoked salmon with the mountain of cream cheese they give you. All in all a great start to a wonderful dinner. We choose two of the evenings specials for our mains, a tough choice as the menu is packed with choices that will leave u making a booking for your next visit as you walk out the door. If you do chose a pasta for the evening, the waitron advises asking for home fresh pasta. It's made fresh each day and you can see the days batch so drying in the counter and know first hand how fresh and amazing it must be. I'll be back to try it for sure. Our mains; the double pepper crusted steak with mushroom sauce served with biltong mash and vegetables. Ordered medium rare, with the juices of the cut steak smoldering into the mash ... mmm so delicious. For my main I ordered the salmon, medium rare, accompanied with beetroot mash and crunchy vegetables of broccoli and carrots. It was delicious and filling. As it was a celebratory dinner we couldn't leave without ordering desert although stuffed at this point. The signature pavlova and special for the day a peanut butter cheese cake were the choice to finish off our dining experience. The peanut butter cheese cake is only for the true peanut butter fan, a generous slice is dense, rich, smooth and packed with flavour. Too rich to finish and so we took it home and just as good if not better the next day with a cuppa. Their signature pavlova while generous in size could be served with more fresh berries and more variety of berries. Especially given the season. It's lovely but not the best pavlova I have enjoyed. Nothing wrong with it, I have just been spoiled enough to enjoy the pavlova of Jeunene of Aux petit four and nothing comes close to hers. There is just something magical about her specific pavlova. I should of gone with my gut which was to order the Affogato. A great evening of fabulous food. We will be back. Our meal was not cheap but worth the dining experience for the celebration at hand. Highly recommendable.

A friend and I drove all the way from Sandton to confirm what everybody 'raved' about. The service was just right and the food...well, we didn't want to leave. Thank you very much to Mike for taking good care of us and to Larnia (sp) for being a great sport. We are definitely coming back soon

One of the best restaurants in jhb by far !!!! The steak with Gorgonzola is out of this world and for starters try the stuffed calamari!!! The service was great with the chef coming to the table to recommend dishes for each diner at our table .
Great service great vibe.... shot guys

I have heard so many amazing things about this place, i couldnt wait to go for dinner. The restaurant is in a very empty shopping centre. When we got there at 6 it looked like a ghost town. It slowly started filling up as the night went along. Cafe del sol is much smaller than i expected, it is a very intimate setting. The decor is beautiful. They get very busy and the noise levels are so loud you can barely hear yourself talk.

The service is really good. I love the fact that the kitchen is open plan and you can see whats going on.
I had the seafood risotto. The ingredients are so fresh and delicious and the portions are huge. I was a bit disappointed that there were only 3 prawns in the risotto though. My boyfriend had the limoncello pasta, he really enjoyed his meal. For dessert we had mamas pavlova. A giant piece of heaven. It was really amazing. A must have at this restaurant.

My husband and I had dinner at Cafe Del Sol Classico last night and wow... this little hidden gem is a must!! The service is absolutely superb and not mention the food. We started with the Halloumi special and it was delicious but the very best dish was the Ravioli of the day (Porcini Mushroom & Ricotta) freshly home made pasta. Mamma's Pavlova is a definite must to end it off.
