Review Amarcord Italian Food - Illovo

Had a wonderful evening at this quaint neighbourhood eatery. The owner/manager was friendly, hands-on and visible, but more importantly, the food was delish! I was especially impressed by their dessert and would return for Dolce Nonna something alone - it's reminiscent of a really good tiramisu minus the coffee but plus chocolate (unfortunately not pictured here)

One of the few really good restaurants in Johannesburg that offer BYO and don't charge corkage. Excellent Italian restaurant, extremely attentive waiting staff, food is great and presentation is also done very well. Mama Luciana walks around the restaurant constantly making sure that everything meets her high standards of excellence. If there's not enough parking in front of the restaurant, just park by the Blairgowrie Spar.

This is classic Italian at its best. A must if you like the real thing. Now in Blairgowrie and in a friendly 'bring your own' setting. It remains one of the best in Johannesburg and is still a classic!

Delicious food with the menu written with original Italian names. Food portions are quite small for the price, but I felt very full and happy at the end of it. No liquor license, so bring your own booze. Waiter was very helpful and friendly, although service was a bit slow towards the end of the meal when it came to desserts. Would go again.

Fantastic family owned restaurant with quality dishes. Always love eating here when visiting Joburg. The zucchini chips are legendary, and another great thing about this restaurant is that it's BYO so you can always enjoy your favourite wine with delish food. Oh and let's not forget the mouthwatering della nonna or tiramisu for dessert. You won't be disappointed!!

Proper italian vibes. Nice ambiance. No liquor license so could bring own wine so thats great. Food was very tasteful but portions slightly skimpy. But thats forgivable due to the quality of the food. Sadly no pizzas which was what I was hoping for.

Better than average Italian food. Has a seriously good reputation so it is essential to book. Not cheap but still excellent value for the excellent quality of the food.

Rustic, authentic Italian food. Owner/chef managed. Everything I have eaten there is excellent. The location isn't great and parking awful, but the food makes up for it

The welcoming owner cooks delicious and different Italian food. Try the Asparagus Lasagne, Veal, Falkland Baby Calamari and Zucchini ribbons!

Excellent food ... the best Spaghetti Cozze I ever had, better than in Italy and the tartare as a starter is just delicious. We'll be back soon. Grazie mille.

Great food, nice ambience. Service needs a little work but there is always a manager present and making sure everyone is on the ball
