Review Bellagio Illovo - Illovo

Stellar Frisby
The food is incredible - simple but sophisticated - the ingredients speak for themselves. The service was perfect. Alex was our waiter - very professional and attentive. Will keep coming back.

I am OBSESSED! I was SO excited to try Bellagio, because It had been recommended to me by SO many people, and when I finally had the opportunity to wine n’ dine I was absolutely in HEAVEN ! From the second I stepped inside I was greeted by the loveliest host who complimented my outfit and quickly sat us to the outdoor section which was picturesque and charming! The waiter brought out the most amazing breadsticks and zucchini straws which came with a dip that was to die for ! I ordered a mojito and a salmon tartar to start. Trust me, Do NOT skip out on the salmon tartar. 😍😍The portion is very generous and the flavors are Devine ! For main I ordered chicken stir fry with noodles, and I only wish my stomach was bigger because I didn’t want to stop eating. Of course you must keep room for desert because the home made baked cheesecake is actually the best I’ve ever had. I am a connoisseur of cheesecake, and this was unmatched (I even ordered a slice to go) we also ordered the millefeulle which was unique to anything I’ve ever had but was a gorgeous blend of flakey creamy goodness ! Easily one of my favorite fine dining experiences I’ve ever had and I will be back again and again and again! Thanks team Bellagio, I love you ❤️

Bellagio is perfect for all occasions. I love having lunch here. The food is delicious, and the service cannot be faulted. It has an atmosphere of class and old money. Highly recommended.

The greatest pasta in Johannesburg by far. My ultimate perfect service is a perfect setting. I am literally obsessed with this place. Can't get better for me than Bellagio. Everything we ate was outstanding, and portions were well worth the price. I'll keep going back as long as they stay open

One of the few remaining restaurants in town that is excellent. Fresh ingredients prepared masterfully. We had the three cheese soufflé, still excellent. Niçoise salad with tuna was wonderful. Fillet steak with cognac mushroom sauce. The only issue was that it had to be returned as the comis chief did not know how to cook a medium steak. Almost raw. Deserts were lemon tart, Mille Feuille, chocolate cake & cheesecake all of the highest quality almost went to heaven. Keep up the great work, looking forward to my return. BTW not cheap but worth every penny. Th

Great. Bellagio has been around for quite sometime, and there’s clear a reason why. Good food; we had excellent service, and it’s relatively well priced. The avocado salsa with the starter portion of calamari is simply sensational. Would certainly recommend you give it a try.

I have been a customer at Bellagio for many years, In my opinion it is remarkably consistent excellent food and service. Sure and very rarely there might be a disappointing dish but the staff will immediately take it back if it is below par or one is unhappy. Clearly all management and staff strive for perfection at all times and for the most part they achieve it. Customers who might consider a dish bland either don't know what they are talking about, or they don't bring it to the staff's attention.I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking to enjoy very good food (without any pretension) and wine at very good value for money prices.

The food was good. The service for is what really impressed me. Tried the chocolate pudding for dessert and it's worth every calorie.

They say ' the best moments are around a table' I can definitely attest to this. Besides the amazing food and great service, Bellagio has become one of my local favourite places for lunch. We are never dissappointed.

Made a last minute booking. Upmarket restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. However the outdoor seating is way below average compared to the smart fine dining seating inside. We were served with the most delish bread basket - complimentary. Starters was average. Found the marinated prawns too salty. Haloumi was a disappointment- there was absolutely no trace of chilli. Ministone soup was good. Gnocchi was good with the sauce. My husband loved his calamari. Long wait of 30minutes for most desserts so did not order any. Service way too slow if you sitting outside.

I ordered some food for my husband's birthday. When I called, the person who took my order was really friendly and helpful. I called at about 3pm and asked for the food to arrive at 6pm. And lo and behold, the food arrived at exactly 6pm. It was piping hot which was great on this icy night. There were so many additional things that made this experience really good: everything was wrapped in foil to prevent spillage, there was a liberal amount of complementary bread and bread sticks sent as well, and everything wad labeled. For starters, we ordered the chargrilled calamari which was well cooked and really fresh. We also order the marinated prawns which was the dish of the day! They were amazing. For mains we ordered the beef filler with baby potatoes and the spaghettini with salmon. The portions sizes were quite big and I could finish it all. However, I felt that the flavour of the pasta was just okay and the beef, although tasty, was over cooked (we asked for medium). This may have been due to the delivery time though!

Where to begin? The ambience is great, the waiters are great, the food is great. It is worth everything! We had off menu items, I had the steak, roast potato, tomato and salsa pesto(?) stack. It was cooked to perfection and was a melt in the mouth experience. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and her recommendations were appreciated. We shared dessert which was a chocolate pudding (?). It was so good.

My dinner date club and I ,were here a few weeks ago . <br/><br/>The area in which the restaurant is ,is quite dodgy . But inside it’s a cosy little haven . A very nice ,intimate spot especially ideal for romantic evening plans . <br/>It’s dimly lit ,lots of mirrors everywhere and my personal favorite thing is when the bathrooms of a place are clean . <br/>The service was really good and as it got more full ,it dipped a little . I also didn’t like how you don’t get one waiter throughout your meal . <br/><br/>I had done my own little research on the place and the most prominent dish thy everyone kept raving about was the seafood risotto . I’ve never regretted anything more in my life than ordering that dish . The sauce was way too rich and overwhelming . And before I tasted it ,I got the smart idea to sprinkle some Parmesan cheese . So it was just too much . <br/>The saving grace for my disgruntled tummy was the dessert . I ordered 3 scoops of homemade ice cream ,2 vanilla scoops and one chocolate scoop . I’m glad my instinct was right and let me order more of the vanilla because it was really good. And the wafer sticks that come with the ice cream are cute too . The breadsticks are really good ,I nibbled away on them while waiting for my order I was almost full from them .<br/><br/>A heads up would be to go check the prices of their specials of the day on the board before you order . Else you might get quite the surprise when you receive your bill lol . <br/><br/>Overall this place is really nice and would definitely recommend it .

I was extremely eager to visit Bellagio and the food did not disappoint! The fillet was grilled excellently. My Mille Feuille desert was gorgeously presented with the taste to match. I was really looking forward to trying the chocolate souffle but unfortunately Eskom dealt us a bad hand. It's not very often that I go to a restaurant and know instantly that I will be back a second time but Bellagio is an exception to that. Besides the great food, the atmosphere and decor were perfect for a romantic birthday dinner. See you again soon for that souffle :)

Did not know they moved into illovo, but definitely same great taste since they were in bluebird shopping center many years ago. <br/>Must try their seafood and pasta. <br/>Will come back again soon <br/>

Classy and understated <br/>Great vibe and ambience <br/>Seated at open door on a hot and steamy Johannesburg evening - marvelous <br/>For starters we had Japanese salmon tartare- delicious <br/>Mains we choose Bellagio signature dish - the salmon, prepared rare with delightful veggies<br/>Really enjoyed the atmosphere here <br/>Service was very good
Nadhiya
Upmarket fine dining establishment with an extensive menu that is well executed. Service is top notch, exactly what you would expect from a 5* place. However, the lack of veg options means they lose a point from me. It’s a pity cos I really did like everything else about this place.
Ashdesai5
Outstanding food and ambience. Great menu and even better quality of dishes. Love the fish pie and their risotto choices. Worth a visit for those special moments in life.

We went for a small work celebration / function. <br/><br/>As we arrived, we were greeted by a waiter who had the biggest smile and made you feel so welcome. <br/><br/>He knew the menu like the back of his hand and make great suggestions. <br/><br/>The starters, mains and desserts were all just exquisite! <br/><br/>A definite must try!

Take me back!<br/><br/>A lovely spot for an intimate date, the complimentary bread is the best I’ve had in Jozi. Maybe it was all thanks to my date but the team was accommodating and attentive, a special wine list as well!!
Stephanie Frank
Sublime Sunday Lunch <br/><br/><br/>Family Sunday lunch - could not fault a thing! Complementary bread which is honestly the best bread I’ve ever had! I had the Crab Capellini which was delicious. My husband had the 3 cheese soufflé which was out of this world! And all my kids had calamari and chips which they loved. Attentive service and great wine list. Will be back!

Nice pasta, cooked perfectly and tasty. Portion was slightly too small though.<br/>The waiter wasn't very attentive to the table, he would take some people's orders and leave without asking the rest of they want anything. We requested the wine list then he took it away after 3 people ordered their bottle of wine, so seemingly the rest of the people didn't matter...
Owen Swanson
Excellent service and fantastic food. Caprese salad and battered hake and chips superb. And yes, the bread basket lives up to others comments. Surprisingly, the first time there. Will be back.

I went to the Bellagio after hearing rave reviews about it for years. I was a little disappointed, although the food was generally good. Our waiter was busy so there was quite a long wait between courses. I had the ginger and chilli calamari to start and followed it up with Thai kingclip and creme brulee. My husband had the seafood mixed grill. Everything was cooked well but it was rather boring and there was no wow factor to bring me back.
Johnny Teixeira
I ordered the seafood risotto and my wife the char grilled calamari. Both meals were delicious and filling. The service was excellent and we loved the vibe. The strawberry phyllo millefeuille dessert was heavenly and to die for. We will definitely be back.
Zandi Phoshoko
Superb service! A+ for consistency - I hadn't been to this restaurant since they moved from the Blubird ShoppingCentre. Had the 200g seared salmon marinated in chili, ginger, honey, soya & orange. An expensive choice, but it was lovely nonetheless.
Valuescout
Faultless, thoroughly enjoyable evening at the restaurant. Not cheap but you could be forgiven for thinking you are eating at a top notch establishment in Italy.
Russel Roth
Nice atmosphere, the menu is really good, and desert options plentiful, ordered a starter but waiter said he thought it was a main and was coming with mains so I cancelled. The fillet on 3 x asparagus stalks with half an artichoke was very average, only the pesto really gave any real flavour. My guests sea bass was also good but not great, the fondant desert however was very good, all in I expected more flavours form such a diverse menu
Stephaniec
Seriously one of the most stylish restaurants In jhb ! Complimentary bread basket , Fresh flowers on all the tables , really reasonable prices and great specials board - shared the seafood risotto - was beyond delicious . Fantastic wine list and attentive service .
Andi Dill
Exceptional Setting, Exceptional Food, Exceptional Service. Bellagio certainly is one the best restaurants in JHB and I highly recommend it! Best Seafood in JHB!
Sharon
best fillet of beef served with porcini risotto and baby winter greens . My partner had the prawn stirfry -said it was ab divine . And the chocolate souffle beyond delicious ! Great vibe and slick service ! Best bread in jhb
Jonty Kay
Bellagio used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Couldn't be more disappointed with my recent experience. Poorly chosen steaks, badly overcooked. Burnt side dishes which arrived too late to be eaten with the main course. Overpriced prawn avocado starter served with shells on. Multiple attempts to engage with management met with classic stonewall tactics with phone calls as yet not returned. Avoid.
The Great Diner
Always nervous dining at a special place with a youngin. But, this was out of this world. The waiters accommodated us a table where we were close to the door if needed. He was quite happy trying the fish cakes with fries. We tried the beef carpaccio to start. So so good. The schnitzel was bang on. Tender tasty chicken with the perfect crumb. The Spaghettini looked amazing. My dining partner wouldn't even let go of a single fork full. Will definitely be back to go further through their menu.<br/>Great experience.
Kiran Korah Abraham
I took my wife there for her birthday and I specifically mentioned that it was for it and they had promised to make her feel special but none of that happened. Besides all of that, my wife had ordered the Thai style kingklip which was only ordinary to say the least. The kingklip was not fresh at all. I had ordered the Seabass special, which was fresh and was quite nice. However it wasn't exquisite.. The ambience was nice and the staff is accommodating. I did expect more...
Tam Loves Food
We had a great dinner celebration on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was quite full and had a lovely vibe. Service was excellent and our waiter was very attentive. Starter was a rich cheese souffle with an apple and candied walnut salad, it was superb! I had the seafood risotto for mains and it was delicious, real comfort food on a winter evening. I ended off with the chocolate truffle praline cake which was tasty but intensely chocolatey and rich (didn't manage to finish it). All in all a great experience!
Kirsty Morey
If I had to chose one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants in johannesburg - this would be it. Not only is the decor exquisite, the food is equally divine! Everything I have eaten here has been well presented and is always super fresh. I would definitely recommend the seafood dishes when dining at Bellagio. It is more on the pricier side but it is most definitely worth it for a special occasion.
Gary Greenberg
I have only visited this restaurant once and it is upmarket, priced a tad on the expensive side but it is in good position within the Illovo area. There is a good variety of pasta for vegetarians on the menu. I decided to try the Bellagio gnocchi with a sage & burnt butter sauce which was quite enjoyable and a good portion. I have however had a better gnocchi elsewhere in Joburg so this is not the best around. The service here is of a good standard and unfortunately not exceptional. I will definitely go back in the near future to try some other items on the menu.
Food Man
Good. Cozy and upmarket. Nicely located to give effect of a small hideaway. Seafood is comprable with the finest yet wouldn't quite call it the finest. I would say just slightly shy of Fishmonger at Thrupps
Melissa Marengo
went for a midweek dinner, service good and fast. shared the veal limone and chicken special (stuffed and wrapped in parma ham) very delicious, portion size good and great dunking experience. had he creme brûlée for dessert, tasted a little over cooked but still worth it<br/>id definitely go again for a special occasion!

Bellagio, tucked away in Oxford Manor, has a very quaint location and it wasn't long before I was settled for a good catch-up with a girlfriend and a bottle of Sophie te'Blanche on ice. <br/><br/>The interiors are comprised of two seating areas with a striped blue and white theme throughout and beautiful fresh pink roses on each table. Bellagio has lots of ambiance with its candlelit tables and a really intimate atmosphere. <br/><br/>Onto the food: I selected the Zucchini fritti, an oyster shooter (oyster, tobiko, sake, ponzu sauce, spring onion) and a 'Penne Tomato' for mains (which is a slow-cooked tomato, basil and mozzarella pasta). My oyster shoot was a little over-powering in taste but fresh and beautifully presented while my pasta in my penne very 'al dente' but still tasty. Their food is on the pricier side of the market, but the ambiance in the restaurant itself makes the visit worthwhile. <br/><br/>We were served by Ozia, who was very attentive throughout the evening and ensured that our wine glasses were never empty. <br/><br/>*Recommendation: For a quaint little Mediterranean dinner (or date night) with lots of ambiance in the heart of Illovo, you cannot go wrong with Bellagio.<br/> <br/><br/>For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

Great food, interesting wine list and very attentive service. Slightly pricier than other similar establishments, however portions are very generous. We shared the tuna ceviche (pretty massive - would suffice as a main course), then I had the crab capellini - best pasta I've had in ages - and my partner had the veal schnitzel, washed down with a Mulderbosch Rosé. Everything was sublime..and sitting outside, though facing a parking lot, is wonderful. We'll be back.
Linda Meyer
Absolutely fabulous! The food is "clean" Mediterranean - no creamy horrific accompanying sauces to overpower the complex and delicate flavors developed in this kitchen. The service is outstanding. The wine selection is average. The venue is tastefully decorated.

Lovely restaurant in illovo. We enjoyed the carpaccio for starters and the prawn linguine and mussel special for mains. All flavourful and delicious. We enjoyed everything. Service was ok. Decor simple and classic. I love their crockery. Their breadsticks are delicious! Definitely worth a visit.

Keep driving pass this restaurant , finally had a chance to have dinner here. My favourite oysters again ( pretty fresh) . The muscle starter were recommended by the chef it was Really good especially to those garlic lovers.

Had a lovely evening at Bellagio. The decor is elegant and welcoming. Fresh flowers and candles on the tables added to the ambience. The food was delicious and the service great. Look forward to another visit soon!

Really enjoy Bellagio. Excellent service and delicious food. The staff are always attentive. Never had a disappointing experience at this restaurant.

Good friend, Heather Hook, invited me  to dinner - it was her treat, so it was her choice, and I'm so glad that she chose Bellagio<br/> in Illovo. We have both been so busy and sorta gone separate ways, so it was an overdue catch-up session. <br/><br/>Neither of us are big on carbs, but we not only finished the bread basket, we requested a second. The bread basket included a selection of breads but the Salt Crusted Bread hit all the right spots for me. <br/><br/>We (obviously!) agreed to share starters. Heather's Ginger Calamari with Chilli & Lime was a surprisingly subtle dish that allowed the brightness of the ingredients to highlight the calamari, instead of overpowering it. If you were expecting fire & brimstone, you'd be sadly disappointed, but I prefer subtle flavours over harsh ones, so I was very pleased. Heather was too. I opted for the Mussel & Fish Soup, which was pleasant but way too large to be considered a starter. I thought the soup could have been a smaller portion with punchier flavours, but I enjoyed it nonetheless but made a mental note that I would order it again in future as a (light) main portion.<br/><br/>"They" say never order chicken in a restaurant when you can have it at home, but we both ordered chicken. My Chicken Schnitzel served with was chips was comfort food personified - and the grilled artichokes offered a welcome touch of astringency. Heather's Chargrilled Chicken with Rocket & Parmesan Shavings was a healthier option with a generous herb butter. <br/><br/>We both waxed and waned between dessert or Dom Pedros, but decided that following the generous portions - and double bread baskets, we had both enjoyed an elegant sufficiency, and that another morsel would have spoilt a wonderful dining experience at Bellagios. <br/><br/>Bellagios is touted as a fine-dining restaurant, but the truth is that you can expect Italian hospitality, generous portions, and seriously good food. You can even ask for that second bread basket without being frowned upon.  And that to me, is fine-dining indeed!
Bronwyn Esterhuizen
Beautifully relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Simple, authentic cuisine with an Italian flair. Bellagio serves fantastic seafood with a large menu offering of other dishes as well. White table cloths, freshly baked complimentary bread as bread on arrival, well trained waiters, candles, a very pleasant dining experience.
Justin Jay Rocca
All I can say is wow wow wow. The service we received was absolutely perfect exactly what you would expect from a restaurant of this standard. Food was unbelievably delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Melanie Meyers
Went to Bellagio the day after I went to Jamie's Italian and I have to say we have such fantastic local restaurants....we don't need to get all hysterical about all the new imports from overseas .....this was so much better than Jamie's from a food point of view...ginger calamari starter was Packed with flavours and main pastas were all fantastic. Service was excellent and I have to mention the generous complimentary bread baskets and zucchini fritters as nothing is free anymore these days .....fantastic restaurant that ticks all the boxes!
Kevin Purves
Took my management team to Bellagio for dinner last night. Was really impressed by all the dishes served; especially the Thai-style Kingklip and Tuna Cerviche.<br/>The service was also very warm, friendly and efficient - exactly what you would expect from a restaurant of that caliber.<br/><br/>My only criticism was the speed of service; we waited ages for every course to be served. We were seated at 18h30, and the main course was served after 21h00; not as a result of any delays caused by us.
Steve Sherman
I ended up at bellagio today for a business lunch.A fine dinning place indeed .Going to rate the food a 5/5.The venue 4/5 and the service from the waiter Adrian 5/5.I can recommend the marinated salmon and Char grilled calamari.it has to be the tastiest and freshest seafood in Gauteng.Pricese are a bit steep but worth every cent.l will definitely be back.Well done bellagio<br/><br/>
Mweli Mzizi
Fabulous!  Possibly the most stylish restaurant in town!  Slick service and great seafood!  Specials change weekly so you are never bored.  Fantastic wine list.
Wesley Mark Aitchison
Sublime! Service, food, and atmosphere all stunning. Making a booking was easy, the service was warm and friendly throughout, and the variety and presentation of food was amazing. Highly recommend!

Went to Bellagio for a catch up dinner with a friend. So I have a habit of stalking the restaurant on zomato a few times before heading there. I am not a fan of the decor, it screams beach side restaurant, hated the chairs, really wasn't sure about what they were going for with this interior. Which made my outfit choice difficult because is it more casual or formal. Anyway, we had a table by the corner which was great. Our waiter Thabo (not sure) was really great and patient because my friend was really undecided. After stalking this place on Zomato I had decided to go with the risotto, when I got there I ordered the queen prawns but quickly changed to sushi (big mistake). I really did not enjoy the sushi not because the ingredients were not fresh but because it wasn't well put together. The rice was far too thin. We later had dessert which was the baked cheesecake (ok so there is no menu for the dessert it was written on a board on the other side of the restaurant so it's either you get up to look or give the waiter your phone so he takes a picture. Umm....). The service was great I think that's the one thing that deserves a 5. The rest I was not impressed by.
Jill Nudelman
I've eaten here often and never had a bad meal. The salmon, mussels and stir fries are all very good. The Ricardo's' salad is amazing and the complementary bread irresistible. Low carb alternatives are available as in zucchini spaghetti. Don't forget to turn the menu over for the pastas. The service is slick and the wine list good. The ambience is also very nice - it's quiet but not staid and the decor is fresh and upmarket. It's especially pleasant to sit at an outside table on a hot summer night, although you will be looking out on a parking lot. You're strongly advised to book - there've been many a time when I've phoned only to be told there's no available table.
Franca Le Roy
Incredibly romantic setting - the restaurant is well situated and beautifully furnished. The food was enjoyable and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Our waiter was efficient and very helpful. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a visit.
Bridget Meyer
A beautiful restaurant - perfect for a romantic meal for two or to entertain business clients. Food is fresh, delicious and service impeccable. We enjoyed our Tuna Tartare and Ginger Calamari starters before having Prawn Linguine and Salmon Tarragon Cakes which we equally enjoyed. Portions are generous so we couldn't fit dessert in, but will certainly be back to try them.
Heather Hook
What a great evening spent catching up with a friend at this beautiful restaurant. Indoor and outdoor seating, with clean and fresh decor and feel. Starched white linen and elegant art, make this the perfect spot for a romantic meal, or place to entertain clients.<br/><br/>The wine list is extensive and we the service perfect - the right amount of attention, but also enough space to chat and enjoy our evening, without being over the top.<br/><br/>The homemade breads are delicious and a great something to nibble on, while you decide what to order.<br/>In fact we took quite a while to order due to all the delicious starter options, from soup and an oyster "shooter" to the three cheese souffle. We finally settled on the ginger calamari with chilli and lime (which was mouth wateringly superb) and the mussel and fish soup, which was big enough to be a main course.<br/><br/>For mains my chargrilled chicken breasts with rocket and parmesan shavings was a sure fire hit and my dining partner enjoyed his chicken schnitzel with chips immensely  - the chicken was so tender. The pasta selection and sushi menu were also super tempting.<br/><br/>We did not have space to try one of the wonderful desserts on offer - but I would certainly return to try the "Bloody delicious desserts" highlighted on the black board.<br/><br/>Prices are not cheap, for two our meal, including the wine came to R 840 without tip - but would certainly bring someone special back here for a romantic meal.
Khuthala Worx
I've been to this establishment a few times and I've never been disappointed. Some friends and I had dinner last night and as always, the food, service, ambiance - everything - was just right. I regret not taking pictures but it's ok, I'll be back soon enough 😄
Nadz
Wowzers! I drive by the little gem so so often and never knew it existed! I wasn't particularly hungry so I just had the Three Cheese Soufflé starter and followed that with Pink Champagne Sorbet! ..... #Delish!
Ray Wise
Food is fab and the setting is perfect. Tonight will be the third time I'm eating there this week. If you are looking for an enjoyable eating experience, look no further.👍😋😋😋

Had a meal herewith my wife, and somehow left disappointed.  In talking it over we decided the place lacks the passion for food that makes for a good restaurant - they have settled for OK.  The food was great - I had scallops and tagliatelle with tomato bacon and chilli.  My wife had chicken livers and a prawn stir fry.  There are only two Italian wines on the menu - a somewhat sweet San Leo prosecco and a Lady Lola Pinot Grigio.  A nice chianti would have been good.    The loudspeaker was not working in the room we were in but drifted in from next door.  Service was good but not excellent - like the restaurant itself.
Ilovefood
Still a top restaurant in Joburg! Much broader menu than the newer kids on the block and everything executed really well. Stylish, good service and overall an enjoyable meal and experience. Zucchini fritti are the best I've had anywhere.
Sage Gillan Waddacor
Amazing restaurant!!! My girlfriend and I had an amazing dinner. The food was excellent and the service from our waiter Alex was great. We will definitely be coming to dine here again. 5 stars!!!
Adriaan Wepener
Great all round restaurant. Good food and the atmosphere is great too. Must try the oyster shooter, they really great. Give it a try if you in the area.
Christian Nenkov
Fantastic food and wonderful service makes this well established restaurant well worth a visit! My meal was simply delicious and prepared to perfection!
Zainab
I would give the food a rating of 5/5, however I was disappointed by the service. Our waiter lacked friendliness and efficiency from the start. It was a struggle to get his attention despite the restaurant being fairly quiet. I am hoping for a better experience in future.

Oh My Goodness 🍴🙌 the food , ambiance service is all worth every cent you can spend at Bellagio. <br/>We had a team lunch and it was absolutely amazing From the selection of starters to desserts , was mouth watering 😋 My personal favorite was the Salmon tartar 🙌👌🏻 it was off the hook . <br/>Thank you for an amazing experience..
Pratika Pillay
Went here for dinner on a cold winter's evening for my husband's birthday. The ambience was quiet and romantic, the food was delicious (we both had pastas) and service was wonderful too. Great for a romantic dinner. I love that this restaurant is tucked away just off Oxford road.
Devin Sage
What an excellent restaurant! It has such a relaxed atmosphere, very tranquil. Every dish was absolutely perfect, I can't criticize one thing. The service was exemplary, very friendly and fast. Orders came out in that kind of perfect amount of time, not too quickly and not slow. I really loved the Scallops and the Veal Marsala was excellent! Perfect dining experience!

For a classy night out with great food and service, Bellagio is the place. From starters to dessert, everything was full of flavor with good portion sizes. <br/>Make a booking

First time at Bellagio and very impressed. Not many places you can go to and find such a quality plate of pasta. I'll definately be back soon!
Nicci 🌟
Really was outstanding. Went first the fish were all embed up having pasta. My husband had the seafood rissito it was unbelievable I had the prawn pasta was ok quite tasteless with no flavor .. found myself adding salt chilli..otherwise service was incredible and i just loved the vibe. Definitely be back to try everything else i wanted.
Noni Demetriou
Nice restaurant. delicious for seafood. Really enjoyed the baby marrow pasta with salmon. Once i went though I did have a bug crawling on my salad and was told they had a bad lettuce supplier which wasn't really good enough but received good see if to rectify
Emily Smith
Bellagio is a great high end Italian dining experience. I had the minestrone starter which was packed with delicious fresh flavour followed by the veal schnitzel which was wonderfully tender. One of the best Italian joints in Jozi.
Margeaux Swartz
One of my favourite spots in Illovo. The dishes are always prepared to perfection and the menu caters for everyone's palate! My mission is to try every thing! I love the setting indoors and outdoor. Perfect for a business or weekend lunch. Service is on point! Well deserving of 5 stars!
Mark Kuess

Another date night with my wife lead us to this amazing restaurant. I ordered the seared salmon and my wife ordered the fish pie. It's not cheap, but it was worth every penny we paid. It was just perfect. The service was also out of the ordinary. I would come back here anyday.

I have been to the restaurant several times since they reopened in the new location and I have yet to be disappointed.<br/><br/>The food is outstanding and if you are a fan of seafood pasta's the Linguini Lobster is unbelievable. The service is attentive yet unobtrusive and the friendly owner is always near to ensure that all her guests are happy.<br/><br/>The ambience is unique, warm and welcoming, whether it be for a lunch, large gathering or an intimate dinner.<br/><br/>A definite favourite of mine and my friends and I would highly recommend it.
Mmule
I've been wanting to try out Bellagio & boy I was impressed! It's a perfect for weekend lunch time dates or business lunches around Illovo. <br/><br/>We had a seafood rissoto & pasta, both were great and quite filling. The waiters are friendly & attentive, the ambience was great too! Can't wait to try their steak.
NazmiraS
The setting feels very homely and the service makes you feel right so comfortable that you forget where you are. It feels very much like a seaside venue with fresh fish that is delicious. Awesome location.
Magda Oosthuysen
We had dinner at this wonderful and cosy restaurant after seeing a couple of great reviews. The vibe inside is comforting and friendly and inviting and I can see why people come here often. It feels a lot like home. We had the Bellagio Gnocchi and the Beer battered fish and chips. Both dishes were full of flavour and so well prepared. And you can have a conversation with the guests around the table without having to shout - I really appreciate that. Great restaurant - worth while to visit.

Very nice and laid back vibe. Had pepper crusted seared tuna with a side of spinach and parmesan. Absolutely beautiful. The prices on wines and champagne are the lowest I've seen in a restaurant.

Nothing like Bellagio. This is where me and my mom go whenever we need some bonding time. The food is always fabulous and the waiters are friendly and kind. The head chef is absolutely outstanding and will make anything your heart desires. Obviously it's better to order off the menu, but I'm a bit of a picky eater. Bellagio's freshly made bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar always hits the spot. I can't go to Bellagio without having a dessert. From their chocolate praline cake to their chocolate fondant pudding. Consistently great food and service. Would recommend to anyone, especially my girlfriends who feel like having a glass of wine and a lovely lunch and chill.<br/><br/>(October 2016) 6 months since my initial review. Still a regular customer! The food is still outstanding and the service is still impeccable. It's obvious to me that consistency is key.
ML
Consistently fine, good selection of food & wine, good service - clean & neat!! <br/>It's smarter than your average restaurant. <br/>All round a safe option.
Pearl Shongwe
Amazing spot! Everything was on par! From the food, to the service, to the wine menu!!! I had an incredible evening and would recommend it to anyone. Not very easy on the pocket, but worth every cent! No qualms! Clean plates! Salmon pasta is a must try! Kept digging in my besties food when my own meal was equally scrumptious. Thoroughly impressed
Raymond Flint
The food may be good however this Restuarant has unfortunately become incredibly expensive. Conservatively their prices have increased by at least 30%
Marlini Naidoo
I simply loved the food and this restaurant. Lovely ambiance and quaint for a special romantic dinner. Most delicious breads and beautiful wine bar. The pasta was marvelously rich and decadently coated properly in white wine, vodka and sour cream sauce topped with caviar and dill with salmon. We opted for linguine instead of spaghetti. My creme Brule was the best I've ever eaten on my life and trust me I've tried many a creme Brule, the vanilla bean ice cream was mediocre. In my opinion considering the prices of desserts elsewhere I think they're overpriced however the creme Brule was very tasty. 10/10 for Great service!

Booked here for my 40th birthday - looking for a quiet, relaxed dinner with friends thanks to being heavily preggie :) the setting is lovely on a summers' Eve and the table decor gives a feeling you're in for something special. Service was adequate and the food was also nice - but nothing to particularly rave about. It was a pleasant evening but perhaps a bit less special than the prices may suggest.
Sam Huxham
Good food, service was fine, but UNETHICAL PRACTICES when it comes to pricing. Three of us went for lunch today. The waiter took us through the specials board, most of which have prices displayed. Then he announced that there was an additional special, not on the board (steak with scallop topping). One of our party ordered this special, and the other 2 of us ordered of the menu. On receiving the bill, we noted with horror that the  price of this special was R295! Considering the average main course is in the region of R160, it is highly unethical not to bring the price to diners' attention at the time the order is placed. We certainly would not have ordered the dish if we had known upfront that it would be almost R300.We left with a bad taste in our mouths. A pity

This has to be one of the nicest restaurants I've been to in a while. Good food, great service, nice atmosphere. Had the avo, prawn and salmon starter which I enjoyed. The veal with brinjal, Parmesan and mash was really good. The chocolate brownie with cognac dessert was to die for. Highly recommended!
Jasmin Sewdial
Shocked for days! Just called in to make a booking for 5pm only to be asked what time do I think I will be out of there because restaurant is fully booked from 7pm. <br/>Who speaks to a customer that way.
Kerry
Went on a Saturday for lunch, food was nice I find it an old folks spot, I had parked my car in front of the Restaurant I saw the waiter go up to my car and put a table cloth on my windscreen because there was a reflection that was worrying a table of old folks inside, the part that I couldn't believe is that the waiter never informed me!!! Not going back there again!!!
Martina Domenichini
I believe cooking is something else...they have no idea about how fish is supposed to be cooked. First and last time I come here.:........,,,,,,,,,,,,,...............

Fantastic service with excellent food. We have been a few times and they have never disappointed. I go specifically for the soufflé which not many restaurants are prepared to risk serving. Very convenient parking in the evenings and weekends. Definitely worth a whirl.
Marcelle Bolus
Really good food and good Service. Parking is a pleasure as it's right outside of the restaurant. I had the tuna and it really was superb. Decor is elegant and I love the crisp white tablecloths

Tonight we decided to try this hidden gem in Illovo called Bellagio. Upon arrival we were told that the restaurant was fully booked but we were seated anyway by the friendly and kind natured staff. (P.S Chat to Thabo, he's our fav!) We promised to indulge our tastebuds in only under an hour! <br/><br/>Ordered a bottle of Tokara which was a perfect accompaniment to our meals. I ordered the chicken shnitzel as per my mothers numerous recommendations and was not disappointed! In fact, the lady dining next to me even queried my meal and said she was "going to order that as well" Proving that the food not only tasted good, but looked good too <br/><br/>Last but certainly not least I had to try my most FAVOURITE dish of all time, The Chocolate Fondant. It was as decadent as a great fondant should be, and was worth every calorie ;) <br/><br/>Needless to say, we have booked to bring the rest of our family this Friday night! Definitely a winner for Illovo!
KarmaZebra
This is definitely a 1st class establishment, from the beautiful pin-stripe blinds and matching cushions to the sparkly wine glasses and freshly cut roses on each table. Even the trees outside appear to be standing ceremony on ones' arrival. I therefore had high expectations for the entire experience to be first class too...<br/>All our meals were delicious, beautifully presented and charmingly served. The owner, however, was far less graceful when asking how we were enjoying our meals, and got very defensive when we had the most minor of constructive criticism. We were given our liqueurs & coffees on the house, not our intention at all, which we sheepishly enjoyed, but next time I think it will be safer to just "nod & smile"...
Kenosi Buzzkill Matsebatlela
Definitely a gem. Tucked away inside a quiet complex just off of a bustling Oxford road. In between the charismatic Thrupps centre and vibey Bellinis restaurant in Illovo.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is cheery and the food absolutely amazing. Our table ordered the following hearty feast: Grilled lemon and chilli calamari with thin fries, beef stirfy, thai style kingklip with roasted veg, chicken breast with onion rings and thai style kingklip with rice and stirfry.<br/><br/>All the food was very tasty and full of flavour. I'd definitely recommend for a most satisfying meal.<br/><br/>While I couldn't find fault in the feast, the service is the only reason I've not gone the whole way on the rating. Our waiter was quite forgetful, we had to keep reminding him to bring our drinks and the food took so long I was convinced that they were making it from scratch... well worth the wait though.
Claudia McGregor
I was quite sad to see they had moved as I liked their Blubird spot it was so light and airy. I am thrilled to say the food has stayed as delicious as always. We tend to order their beer battered fish and the zucchini fritte whenever we come here.
Pamela Pierce
Went there last week Monday night for my birthday. What a lovely place! Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff, comfortable, upmarket decor and ambiance, and very good food. I had the chicken pie main course with matchstick fries - while the pie was very generous, fresh and piping hot, it was a smidge bland, but the fries were amazing! And the trio of ice-cream for dessert was delightful! Chocolate nougat, coconut, and honeycomb flavours! Yes please! :) We'll definitely be back.
Miguel Dos Santos
We came for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was relaxing and classy. Our table had pasta and veal. Everyone tried a different dessert and they were all amazing to say the least. Would definitely come here again.
Talitha Alink
Great ambience, and the waiters are very knowledgeable about the menu. The salmon fish cakes with taragon sauce is delicious and worth every cent.
Emma Pook
Bellagio was absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. The salmon is a must as well as the mixed seafood grill. A brilliant first restaurant to go to on arriving in Joburg!
Roy Mathieu Borole
Spectacularly poor in almost every way.<br/>I was forced to wait 45 mins with a booking scheduled a week in advance. <br/>The food was acceptable and wine list was their saving grace.<br/><br/>Proceed with caution.
Uraysha Ramrachia
Bellagio is one of those charming little gems in Illovo- classy and sophisticated, with beautiful decor. We had items off the 'Specials' board, including a prawn in garlic sauce starter, scallop starter, calamari mains and a BEAUTIFUL dessert of layered pastry and custard. The plating was stunning, however I did find the calamari to be a little lacklustre. Not a lot of flavour, slightly tough, and definitely needing a sauce of some kind. <br/><br/>The menu is pricey, but worth it! Great service as well.
Jimmy Nicolaou
I had heard that this is a fantastic restaurant and read some very good reviews about it so eventually got to go. <br/>We were a party of 10, and as we arrived there was a power failure and we were immediately told that their generator was not working and we would be limited with our menu choices. <br/>We took the decision to stay and eat anyway.<br/>So, probably not the best way to give a fair rating considering the circumstances, so am happy give Bellagio another try some other time.<br/>I am giving them a 4 rating because they were able to deliver decent food given the situation <br/>
Erhardkk
Soooo nice.... from the moment you set foot in the restaurant you are well looked after. Great service and knowledgeable staff. The wine list is top notch and every plate of food around the table looked and tasted delicious. Could not fault a single thing albeit a bit pricey.
Lyle Julius
First time. Great food - well prepared, tasty seafood. Cosy setting. Wonderful service. 2 things bothered me. 1 - one clam in the seafood risotto failed to open. The chef or manager did not come over to see us about it. 2 - R60 for a 1lt of still water! Other than that I would recommend this resturant to anyone.
Julia Louise Domanski
What a gorgeous restaurant; in every way! The decor makes you feel like you're at a breezy restaurant by the sea. The service is fast and efficient. The wine list is extensive and the food is absolutely wonderful. <br/>I had the salmon tare tare to start which was fresh and tasty. We all had pasta for mains and all of us loved our choices. The clam pasta was so well flavoured, as was the prawn pasta. My grandfather's tomato, avo and bacon pasta was also divine- and he isn't even a huge pasta lover.<br/>The star of the meal was my dessert. Everyone else had various ice creams (my mom said it was better than any ice cream she's had in SA or in Italy!) But I had the sublime orange soufflé. It was honestly the best dessert I've ever eaten. <br/>I cannot wait to come back!
Heinz Althaus
Lovely setting - always excellent fare. Saturday lunch was only marred by an amazing horde of waiters moving around aimlessly. Never seen so many anywhere. Perhaps the aim is to have one for every guest? Totally unnecessary surely and highly irritating. In a Paris eatery of similar size 2 to 3 garcons would suffice for even better service. <br/>
Nicole Olwagen
First experience here and all that is missing is a view of the ocean. The restaurant had that almost beachy feel to it. We were there to celebrate two birthdays and it was the perfect setting. The service was excellent and everyone's food was prepared exactly to their liking. I had the seared salmon with soy, orange and something or other glaze. It was cooked to absolute perfection (rare) and had nice flavouring. I think the glaze could have been punchier and the side of seasonal vegetables was underwhelming. There were a couple sides shared around the table and the skinny fries, zucchini fritti and onion rings were all delicious. We didn't stay for dessert so no comment on that.<br/><br/>All in all lovely for a Sunday lunch with family or friends.
Yvonne Bastion
We love Bellagios, in fact we are there at least once a week. It is a lovely venue, with great staff and superb food. My husband adores the Linguine Lobster, in fact he orders it every visit - it is delicious and really good value for the money. We have been patrons of theirs for years.
Bruce Hont
Overpriced. <br/>Consistently underwhelming. <br/>Lobster pasta at 250 for minimal amount of lobster rip off. <br/>Scallops overcooked. A restaurant at this price should deliver at least good food.
Wethu
Ambience was good. The food was tasty (but nothing special) and fairly priced. The restaurant is well positioned with plenty of secure parking.
Vicky Gross
Food was absolutely delicious, all three courses. The service was good too; however we waited about 45 minutes for the food to arrive on Thursday which slightly ruined the evening. Other than that, definitely recommended.
Robbie Newham
Insanely delicious food nested in a great restaurant just off Oxford road. The setting of the Resturaunt really makes you feel out of touch with reality. The food - absolutely phenomenal. Anyone who loves good food should be a permanent resident at this spot
Tarin
My absolute BEST restaurant in Jo'burg... always have a wonderful time. Food is delicious and the service is excellent!! We had oysters to start and calamari for mains.
Mike Varney
Sometime a bit hit and miss. The staff are a constant and it's nice to be recognised on arrival. Large menu with some delicious options but generally go for the fish.
Gretchen Rudolph
Love the romantic ambience! Definitely a restaurant that will impress on a date ! Good food, good wine, great lighting, lovely background music! Definitely one of my Joburg favorites!
Manfred Mullers
The ambience, food & service which my wife & I ,family and guests have enjoyed over many years ,when frequenting this restaurant, has been enjoyable & courteous. The quality of the food deserves the highest recognition.Looking forward to many future enjoyable occasions at Bellagio.

I have taken a while to write this review because it is both good & rather bad ! Booked 2 Friday nights ago for my husband's birthday - his parents were visiting from Glasgow & together with my son & friends there were 9 of us. We sat outside and the waiter was friendly & helpful. We ordered an assortment of drinks and starters including a sushi platter - which was yum - to share which all arrived quite quickly .. And then something went horribly wrong !! You know that feeling that you don't notice at first because everyone is chatting but eventually after about half an hour my in-laws started to look a little concerned & our waiter arrived to say our food would not be long. Sadly that was an understatement .. We must have easily waited another half an hour before our food arrived & although my fish cakes were really good I was aware of eating far too fast. The food around the table was all rated really good and to be totally fair we were offered dessert on the house which some of us took advantage of - unfortunately by then my in-laws were tired and my son took them home. Would have gotten a 4.5 but considering the prices the service was unacceptable and by the way, never explained !!!
Neesha Fakir
I find the seafood refreshing, creative and palatable. My first visit to Bellagio was in 2013 and my meal was absolutely scrumptious. <br/>I enjoyed the location of the restaurant and will definitely go back.
Theresa Griffiths
My favorite restaurant for a spoil. I have never had a bad meal at Bellagio. It is always the preferred restaurant to celebrate special occasions. The menu has plenty of variety as well as a good selection of daily specials. The salted complimentary homemade bread that arrives on your table is just too good to pass up. A good idea to book to avoid disappointment!
Cleo
Excellent evening with a group of friends. The setting is great - our table was outside/perfect on a hot summers eve. The waiter was attentive, knowledgable about all dishes and very professional. My 3 cheese soufflé with a walnut and pear salad was superb ( they did advise it would be a 30 minutes wait time). The mussels were good - perhaps too much fennel used. Veal and steak dishes were great. Cappucinos at the end were perfectly made - one of the best I'd had in a while. Definitely worth a re-visit. Beware the calamari with chilli - too potent for my palette
Lee-Anne Detert
First time visitor. <br/>Delicious smoky-flavour rump with gorgonzola sauce. <br/>Very tasty lemon tart. <br/>Lovely atmosphere and good service! <br/>Thank you
Georgina Katz
As always a great experience. Under the trees in the beautiful sunshine, feasted on Thai Kingclip infused with coconut milk, subtle hints of chilli and black sesame seeds, complimented by a delicious warm bed of rice and stir fry vegetables. Fine chilled wine and a beautiful day.
Una Van Der Merwe
Having almost no peers in its category, Bellagio nails Italian seafood 🍤 My success recipe goes: a starter from the specials or the mussels; on to any seafood pasta; ending with a souffle or the flourless chocolate praline cake (that thing is INSANE) <br/>Ambiance is classy relaxed - ideal for chilled weekend lunching outside under the umbrellas as well as for special occasions / celebrations👌<br/>Le good life 😎
Greg Arthur
This is the ultimate of fine dining. There are always so many tempting treats on the specials menu. <br/><br/>Your bill tends to be high at the end of the evening but it is worth it as a special treat.
Suzanne Briscoe
Salmon was tasteless and tough?, ginger and lime calamari was flavorless. A Seriously sub-par Friday night dinner. Waited for ages for food.
Jules
Really recommend this restaurant if you looking for a relaxed, sophisticated dinner! Food was really good, you must try the chocolate fondant!
Rich Torlage
Had such a great meal last night. Highly recommend the salmon and zucchini spaghetti, and if you order a side get the zucchini fries and pesto mayo! Chocolate fondant was terrific. The service was fantastic, will definitely be back.
Nicola
Bellagio always has a great ambience and their food is always fantastic, unfortunately, the last time we were there, they ran out of lemon soufflé. I cannot describe how amazing it looked as each lemon soufflé passed by while I was happily eating my salmon linguine. Definitely a great restaurant for either a casual weeknight dinner while your home is being load shed, or a celebratory dinner venue.
Warren Smith
What an amazing place. Small, intimate and some of the best seafood I have eaten in Joburg. Ambience is amazing staff are super friendly and they really cater to a needs. Highly recommended.
Leanne Alford
Had a delicious pie here but let me warn you ... If you do choose this meal expect to wait a good half an hour in particular for this one . The bread sticks served during starters were abit stale and hard but all in all that pie made up for everything :)
Jo
I recently had lunch at Bellagio for the first time, although I've been meaning to go for a long time. The ambience and decor is nice but I was upset to hear that not only could they not offer many of the things on the menu but they weren't able to serve sushi either. I'm sure this was an unusual circumstance but no explanation was given, which irritated me a little. Service wasn't much to write home about but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my seafood risotto. Although it wasn't what I'd wanted to order, it was well cooked and very pleasant.
Punita Pitamber
Good, unpretentious food. Just disappointed since the day we went there for supper, their deep fryer and oven was out of order so we were very limited to what we could order. Quite a cosy, quaint restaurant.
AG
Thoroughly enjoyed the entire genetics of Bellagio from the interior decor to the soft touches of finesse. It was random unplanned stop in the middle of the week and the staff were so very accommodating.<br/><br/>I never had scallops before and they were definitely something worth trying if you love fish, however it is slightly different in flavor from the norm.<br/> <br/>Ambience was calm and serene and it was perfect for a quiet dinner out after a long day.<br/>
Roland
This is a real gem in an unassuming office building in illovo. The decor has a lovely french feel to it with striped draped, metal chandeliers and crisp white label cloths. The restaurant is cleverly divided into two, giving it a smaller feel, but also allowing you to book up a whole section if the occasion had to arise. <br/><br/>The service is good and the waiters knowledgeable. The food was great with a nice variety. The wine list is good, with  good selection of wine by the glass. There are a number of daily specials, that are pretty great, so wait to hear these before deciding what to have. <br/><br/>In winter there are gas heaters dotted about that keep the ambient temperature up, although not toasty. Its a romantic venue, which would deb great for dinner with your partner. Expect an excellent and peaceful meal in a romantic setting.
Caroline Edey
Belagios food seldom disappoints. The seafood is the focus here, but they offer many other winners too. The cheese soufflé served with a crisp green, pear and pecorino salad is always excellent. And rich... So the starter portion is enough if you aren't ravenous. The sushi is also good. Burgers, both the meat and fish, are yum, but my salmon burger was overcooked the last time I ordered it. The decor is upmarket seaside bistro. There's always a buzz due to its popularity. The service is generally good, but can be a little slow when it's packed to capacity. The wine list is well chosen and offers something for everyone. Belagio is a good choice for a catch up dinner with friends or even a noisy birthday celebration. But if you chose it for a date night, make sure you don't go on a Friday or Saturday night as its too noisy to allow for intimate conversation. All-in-all I would recommend Belagio for lunch and dinner. It's versatile menu and laid back elegance makes it one of my go to choices in northern Jozi.
Bavani Katha
... warm ambience and good service. The seafood risotto was lovely( the flavours was on point)... The deep fried veal was average... no real flavour but the potatoe mash was amazing.
Mbali Msimang
Perfect food, quieter vibe and great service really just made for a Lovely lovely Sunday lunch.<br/><br/>Had the salmon sashimi starter (as a main) and loved it - will be coming back for the pear and parmesan salad. Had some of the one Mom ordered with extra chicken and it tasted so good. Turn around time was also quite impressive.<br/><br/>See you guys again soon x
Nhlamulo Tlakula
Bellagio exudes a very homey atmosphere and boasts a delicious yet unpretentious menu that tickles your taste buds. One of JHB's hidden gems.
Kali
Bellagio has AMAZING food with fabulous service! It's the perfect place to go for lunch or dinner and there is always something new to try from the specials board! I highly recommend it
Jess Capstickdale
Incredible atmosphere and even better service! Food is to die for, especially the freshly made bread! A definite for lunch or supper! Very accommodating for the banters with a great variety of tasty Banting meals. Will definitely be back soon!
Darryl W
It's a reasonably good spot. Has a great following by the looks of things. .Plenty busy and I get the sense that it's very much in vogue - lots of young beautiful people frequenting the joint. Honestly the meal was ok not marvelous.
Chantel
What a pretty setting in the day, feels like you in the country side<br/><br/>They serve the best bread ever !!!!<br/>The sushi is very good for a non sushi restaurant . <br/> The chicken salad is great not a fan of the tinned artichokes though , I wish they would charge more and buy good quality artichokes. <br/><br/>All the calamari dishes are good, the mussels are Devine with the bread. <br/><br/>The pie is also a winner . <br/><br/>The service is excellent and they even have a good wine list
Marisa Petra Singer
I loved the ambience, and had a delicious meal. The pistachio and feta stuffed Banting chicken was wonderful. The service was attentive. My meal deserved a 4 rating, however, the rest of my party (there were 10 of us) felt that their meals weren't anything special. I would go back just to have the bread again!
Diana
This restuarant is for people who have a palette for fine dining. Ambiance and service excellent.<br/>Scallops were as good as the ones at the <br/>Cipriani in Venice recently!<br/>Owner Louise Castle comes up with amazing combinations, interesting specials and seasonal dishes. There is even a banting menu. Chocolate fondant not to be missed.<br/>Booking would be wise. Treat yourself
Joanne Whittaker
Just had another stunning meal at Bellagio. I judge a restaurant on its consistency and I am never disappointed. Waiters always friendly and helpful, food excellent. I had the salmon, it was excellent, much better tasting and slightly more oily than the less sophisticated Norwegian salmon. I did read the previous review and there are no pot plants at Bellagio but there are always the most beautiful fresh flowers. Please do not be put off visiting this restaurant I think it is the best value for money in the area.
Vanessa Atanasov
Absolutely disappointed. Sorry.<br/><br/>My boyfriend and I firstly, made a booking well in advance, we had heard great things and we were quickly disappointed. <br/><br/>As we came in, we were seated at the doorway, with the table elongated so we could barely hear each other and let's not forget people running next to us and bumping us and trays swaying over our heads to get into the other room and a lovely pot plant tickling my boyfriend's neck. This shocked us as it would have been fine if we were walk ins, but no. We made a booking way in advance. <br/><br/>Luckily, WE took the initiative to ask to be seated at an empty table in the corner where there was a lot more space, candle lit, and we could put our glasses on the table without worry of someone walking past and bumping it. <br/><br/>We decided to try the specials for the night, being scallops, my boyfriend had a salmon and I had a pasta. <br/><br/>Scallops were awful, the fennel was too much and to this day I still think about how awful it was really. <br/>The salmon was smaller than my hand, drenched in oil, and nothing special to it. <br/>The pasta was good, actually. Luckily. But nothing I would go back for (and I'm a die-hard-any-seafood-fan).<br/>To top it off, the prices are crazy for the food we received. We honestly would rather go to another not-so-established restaurant, get a beautiful meal and size portion for half the price. <br/><br/>So unhappy. I had such high hopes.
Sharon
Had a family birthday lunch today, Fabulous food, slick service and they have a world class wine list, nothing was too much trouble. Their cakes are five star.
Isabella Tosh
Lovely deco and great service . Found the seafood platter bit pricey but it was tasty nevertheless . The fish cakes and kinglip were delicious. Great wine list .
Louise Alexandra Castle
Had a Fabulous family lunch today . Great food - ordered off the specials board which changes every week . Fantastic wine list . Slick service . Will be back @sharonsibanda

Went here for my bro's 30th. Really cool interior and setting and makes for a perfect lunch spot because most of the restaurant has the afternoon sun streaming in. A little pricey, quite shocked my calamari starter cost 85 but still really enjoyable none the less. And they have craft beer on tap, always a positive.
Valmay Aerts
Spoilt ourselves by trying this pricy restuarant, feeling like abit of seafood. The restuarant was fairly empty when we arrived. Had my majito and mmmm, so yummy. Then we ordered the seafood platter. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The presentation was awesome. My mouth waters every time I think of it. The menu isnt over expensive but the seafood platter was pricey. Our bill came to just over R1000.00 for 2 people. Can't afford to go every month but well worth the every now and then spoil.
Jodene Shaer
My second time only, but it's been a real experience both times, once for lunch and now for dinner. If you are a lover of seafood and an intimate, more refined experience, then this is it. Save space for dessert, and have a scoop of champagne ice cream.
Imtiaz Ahmad
After reading all the reviews, I went to the place with my colleagues. The place lived as per the expectations. Good food, good ambience. Must visit for seafood.
Nonkululeko Magi
Loved this restaurant. Lovely intimate place. Great for seafood lovers (I had a great plate of prawns after their salmon tartare starter -yummy!!) The restaurant also serves great wines & champagne for every palate.
Godfrey De Meyer
Vast menu deserving of many future visits . Staff are attentive but not too intrusive. Great breakfasts too . Their Oyster shots are the best!
Kelsy Moodley
Best ever salmon risotto! It was on the specials menu so they might not always serve it. You do have to eat looking out onto a parking lot but the food is amazing.
Daryl Chirnside
We went here when it was still at Blu Bird centre, and it's attraction was obviously the convenience of the shopping centre, and the "place to be seen by the ladies that shop". The pasta and calamari main meals were very average, and lacking flavour, and the service was also very average. However, it has since moved to Oxford rd and the food is getting better reviews, look forward to trying it to see
Thandi Mpanza
I have been here a few times and have always been impressed by the ambiance, food and overall service. I love how they redeem themselves after a complaint.
Zuziwe Magi
Lovely place. Been here a few times for lunch with friends and it never disappoints. Food is great & service is attentive. Definitely recommend the chilli ginger salmon & the zucchini fritters. Totally great place for lunch in the sun. Even though the outdoor seating is basically in the parking lot, that doesn't take away from the charm of the place. The inside decor is pretty welcoming too.
JR
Nice ambiance. Romantic and intimate. Perfect for a dinner for 2. Nice wine selection and good menu. Service is also good. The oyster shooters are power and the fried salmon skin is delicious. Been here 3 times. If I go to a place more than twice its good! Nice one!
Tania Ferreira Da Silva
A restaurant in a beautiful setting with wonderful management and staff. It does take sometime for your food to arrive, especially when they're busy, but always worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoy their wholesome meals and have the weakest of spots for their Chocolate Fondant. Definitely worth trying.
Stuart P
Having been told how great the food and service is, I was looking forward to celebrating my Nephew's birthday with him and 10 or 11 other family members on Easter Monday.<br/><br/>Perhaps my expectations were too high, but what a disappointment!<br/><br/>Firstly, the complimentary bread baskets never arrived. I would not have been aware of this had I not seen the bread "table" on my way to the restroom after dinner. I asked one of the waiters afterwards and he just shrugged and said "we forgot". Whilst on the subject, I found it a bit disturbing that the bread table is in close proximity to the restrooms and all the breads were uncovered and drying out! <br/><br/>The 3 Cheese Souffle I ordered for starters was the first to arrive. First impression - I admit it looked very appetizing. The top half of the souffle was really light and fluffy although a bit bland and not much of a cheese flavour. I realized as I dug deeper that most of the cheese was at the bottom of the ramekin and although very "cheesy", the texture was resembled curdled egg. The saving grace of this dish was the side salad, fresh and delicious!<br/><br/>The rest of my dinner companions only received their starters as I was finishing mine off! - Bad timing! Had I ordered a different starter, I would have waited for the rest of the table to be served but keeping a souffle waiting to be eaten... well that's just not cricket!<br/><br/>For main, I felt like a piece of good old fashioned fried fish (hake being the only option on the menu). I changed from chips to rocket mash as did the guest seated next to me. <br/><br/>At least the timing was better for the mains as we were all served within a minute or so.<br/><br/>When our meals arrived, my plate was ringed with greasy finger marks... not a good start. Then I noticed the fish. Three small strips... yes strips of fried hake and a good portion of mash. Perhaps this is the new trend in serving up an old favouite but really! Good news is that the rocket mash was lovely, creamy, buttery and just the right amount of seasoning and chopped rocket! My companion who had also ordered the rocket mash however, was served plain mash with 2 sprigs of rocket on top! <br/><br/>Although I could not fault the beer batter (light and crispy) the texture of the hake was akin to the mashed potatoes - mushy!! Very dissappointing yet again. I have had far better fried hake at Ocean Basket or even Fishaways for that matter and at a cheaper price even though it is one of the least expensive dishes. In hindsight, I should rather have gone for the fish pie.<br/><br/>Had it not been a birthday celebration and had I not been an invited guest, I would most certainly have expressed my dissatisfaction to the manager!<br/><br/>Would I return to Bellagio? I doubt it very much.

Amazing restaurant with a beautiful ambience and equally amazing food. <br/>I enjoyed my birthday there last night ?❤️?<br/>I will definitely be coming back

I have been wanting to visit the Bellagio after all the good things I heard about them. Finally got my chance and wow we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent. You got to try the kingklip with Thai stir fried veggies. The ambience and service was perfect for a romantic night out with my best girl

Bellagio's... What class! Such a fancy restaurant and such an amazing menu! The food is absolutely delicious. And the bread is just on another level.

Heard amazing things about Bellagio after its move from Blubird. I had the seared peppered tuna which was actually seared as I had ordered it but still warm all the way through which many places are unable to do. Our wine and water were always topped up and our waiter gave us a heads up that the kitchen was busy so we got our orders in early. Dessert had the chocolate fondant which was overlooked we also ordered a cheese plate which wasn't on the menu and I wouldn't suggest it. It was a lovely effort but not worth it!

I had heard lots of great comments about Bellagio and for good reason! Service was great, the food was simple but excellent and the wine list was fantastic. I really appreciated the number of good bottles of wine under R200. If you want to be sure to get a table, be sure to book. I will definitely be back!!

What a chic little place this is. Tucked away in a quiet office complex. Just the place for a quiet lunch. <br/>The staff was very efficient and quite friendly, definately a cut above the norm. <br/>Ambiance was good and the style was fresh and elegant. <br/>Excellent wine selection and lots of choices for wine by the glass. <br/>The menu is relatively limited, but augmented by a specials board that is comprehensive. <br/>I had a calamari starter which was a special item on the day. Lots of ginger - very nice. The complimentary bread basket was excellent! <br/>For mains I had a burger which really did not impress. <br/>I also ordered a crab pasta (with a similar sauce to the calamari) and this was delicious, the pasta was perfectly cooked.<br/>Dessert was a lovely chocolate ice cream with nuts also from the specials board. <br/>Some other dishes that came past me to other tables looked good and I suspect that seafood is a strong suite here. <br/><br/>I will definately go back to try some more of the specials and chill out in a relaxed atmosphere with a couple of glasses of wine. <br/>

This place is a hidden gem. Food was delicious & tasty, with a large variety of food to choose from. I definitely would recommend a visit to Bellagio.

The food was fantastic. The grilled calamari dish with ginger and lime was extremely tasty and well presented. My wife had the veal marsala which she thoroughly enjoyed. <br/>Really nice atmosphere and the service was great. Enjoyed the fact that most patrons were in shorts at Sunday lunch and the vibe was casual and relaxed.

Great food and friendly service! Product quality and presentation are excellent. Location is central and secure. Nice and unpretentious ambience with good background music. Watch the prices though...

The service we received at Bellagio was fantastic. Our waiter had a great sense of humour and was so pleasant. The prawn starter was amazing, if I could order that as a main meal I would definitely go back. The rest of the food was okay, however nothing to rave about. We had the seared tuna and the chicken pie and the chocolate fondant for dessert. I thought the general prices on the menu were slightly high for the meals but I am glad to have tried it out.

Carrying on it's good name from the original in Blu Bird centre. Been a few times and have never had a bad meal ----------------------------

We had never been to Bellagio but had seen it's fantastic rating on zomato so decided to come for my boyfriends birthday. We had a spectacular meal, very well presented and tasty. Our waiter was excellent and the food came quickly. I especially recommend the cheese cake for desert.

Wonderful ambience. Excellent service. Food beautifully presented. Baked cheesecake and honeycomb ice cream come highly recommended. Must book to avoid disappointment.

What a delicious meal! Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! <br/>I had the seared Salmon with veggies and it was exceptional and perfectly cooked! <br/>If you are a chocoholic ... You MUST try the chocolate praline cake... Oh my word... Amazing !! <br/>I will be back ! <br/>I give Bellagio a 4.0 rating purely because the service is a little slow. But other than that, I was extremely impressed! <br/><br/>

So disappointed. Had to find out own table, waited for 10 mins before we had to ask for the menu. Breadsticks taste like rubber. Served half a starter. Toilets out of order. Told that the fresh tuna is frozen and that if i want the fresh kingklip as opposed to the frozen i have to pay an extra r30 for my meal.! Really!!!!!!!!!!! Not acceptable. The food was really good though.

This is just an update, keep this restaurant for really special occassions as it hits your pocket real hard.  R275 for lobster linguini is a ridiculous price to pay.  The food is good but there is going to be a time when they are going to out price themselves completely.  One of the reasons I dont go to Fishmonger anymore as they charge R320 for salmon - who can afford these prices.  So special occassions only.<br/><br/>I would like to lower my rating of this restaurant as I am not sure what is going on but something has changed.  I often come here but I find that unless I order the same thing over and over again I seem to be disappointed.  Previously I thought let me try something else than my usual order and I ordered a fish dish, the fish was severely overcooked.  When I complained about this as this dish is definitely not cheap and to be so excited about a piece of dish and be so disappointed I felt I could not just let it go.  I was made the offer to go back and let them do the fish properly so that I can taste what it was meant to be like but when I went back and ordered the dish again it was again overcooked.  and I had to pay again for overcooked fish!  I also find that perhaps the cook in the kitchen has got too many things to remember as sometimes the waiter asks me how I want my mussels as the cook gets confused and don’t know what the special is or not sure what he is meant to be making.<br/><br/>So my rating has been lowered slightly as the decor and service is still the same, but I kind of feel that all the excitement is gone now because I have to stick the same old dishes that are always good and frankly it’s just too expensive to try something new that never works out.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Jhb. I come here a lot. The salmon is amazing. The chicken liver pasta which is sometimes a special is perfection, the tuna steak is also really taste. Never had a bad meal here. The chocolate fondant is okay, the inside is never quite melted enough tho. <br/>Love Bellagio. Love that it's not pretentious and showy. <br/>A favorite!

Good for an evening out with colleagues. Broad menu and very nice wine list. Good range of specials that seems to change reasonably often. Cheese souffle was especially good. Everything ordered was well received and no complaints. Service quite attentive. Lots of parking which is great. Pity that the outside seating area is reserved for smokers. Would have been great to be able to enjoy the fabulous Jozi weather.

It was my first time going to Bellagio and we'll it wasn't bad. But it wasn't exactly great either. The food was nice and the mood too but I felt like it was lacking something.

We had our anniversary dinner here last night, and I chose this place as it looked like a romantic, restaurant with a good variety menu and good vibe. I booked in advance and asked for a nice quite (as possible) romantic table which I was promised, When we arrived we had a 2 seater in a doorway between the 2 parts of the restaurant, which means we may as well be at the entrance to the gautrain station. When asked to be moved, they said that there are only three 2 seaters in the entire restaurant, which were taken. It now seemed more of a larger table, pack them in type place....so much for the romantic ambiance.<br/><br/>The lemon butter Parmesan asparagus starter special was good but I guess it is not that difficult to get it right, lemon and butter and you are done. My Tuna sushi handroll's seaweed was soft, sticky and chewy as you may expect from a cheap Chinese takeaway, and it looked tired. It was stuffed however with 3 beautiful pieces of delicate tuna which seemed such a waste to put them into such a bad looking and tasting hand roll.<br/><br/>At the level of a Bellagio you would expect to bite into a bulging crispy seaweed handroll but it was not to be. I ordered the Kingklip and I have had bad experiences at other restaurants with Kingklip, where you get the cheaper tail end cut which is miserably thin and when cooked property is at best tasteless, falling apart and watery and if overcooked (which they mainly are to hide the bad quality cut) is like biting into car door rubber (I suspect)... At the time of ordering I specifically asked the waiter to please check and if it was not a good cut I would happily order something else.<br/><br/>Well it arrived as 2 fish finger size pieces which were tasteless and soo rubbery I could not even think to take more than 2 bites, and I was starving. The waiter did not even bother to ask about or check the cut on the way out. My wife had fish cakes which where fine but nothing better than you get out of a woolies 6 pack of fish cakes.<br/><br/>The Manager originally started badly by giving all sorts of excuses about "well this is how kingklip is now being sold in Johannesburg....you just cannot get good cuts anywhere at this point....." Ja right !! guaranteed if I go to fishmonger Illovo 1 block away, for the same price, I will get a beautiful, plump and tender well portioned piece of tasty kingklip (as I always do at fishmonger Illovo).<br/><br/>He then said he would check with the kitchen if there are better cuts available and maybe I just got served the "bad one in the lot". This second reason given totally contradicted his first reason and now it was just excuses.<br/><br/>Either way the food was returned and apologies given. I was offered something else, but it was now close to 10pm and I could not wait for a full new meal to be prepared and my wife by now had finished her meal and eating separately is my pet hate at restaurants as a result of mis- timed or botched meals. <br/><br/>We had average desserts I had a pink champagne sorbet, which was indeed pink and that was all that made it special. When we got the bill we were not charged for the Kingklip and I guess as a measure of goodwill the desserts were not charged for either.<br/><br/>The only factor of last nights experience that prevented me from giving Bellagio a 2 was the way the manager FINALLY handled the whole experience by not charging, but no charge does not make up for a bad meal, I will gladly pay full price for a good meal experience.<br/><br/>All restaurants can have an bad meal (or even night), it is all about how it is dealt with. Fishmonger Illovo is 100% tops at dealing with these types of situations, of which situations I have only had to experience ONCE in all the times I have been there (I guess owner run and managed may be the key).<br/><br/>Bellagio was average, not charging for an inedible meal is actually a bare minimum but the desserts where also a good gesture and the manager was apologetic had a good tone and kind in offering alternatives.<br/><br/>Bellagio has the ability to be up there with good restaurants but they are not there at the moment and they are heading down to an average to poor run of the mill not to be repeated experience place.<br/><br/>By the way....we had the Iona sauvignon blanc wine, superb, I have met the owner of the vineyard at a wine tasting, wonderful fellow and perhaps the personality comes out in their wines...maybe if it was not for the wonderful flavours of the wine lingering on my palate it would have been a far worse experience,<br/><br/>Bellagio, you CAN do better and I hopefully you will. I hope I will pluck up the courage to go back at some point in the not to near future, to find a turnaround and a wonderful experience as I had pictured in my mind when I made the first booking last week.

I thought it was outstanding ! One of the best joZi has to offer. Besides for the hair in the spinach .. It was delicious and I'll definitely be back !

Delicious meal, chicken pot pie and beer battered fish were amazing! Great service and classy ambiance.

We had an awesome lunch. Fresh mussels. Seafood risotto. Best risotto in Jhb. Wine selection great. Espresso was disappointing. They used to have illy now something else. Biscotti great. Price is good a little on the high side.
Ockert Snyman
A bit disappointing!!! Deep fried calamari was dry and chewy. I ordered the special main which was Beef Fillet served on porcini risotto. Fillet was dry and the risotto tasted of nothing. Not sure why the food was a bit of a miss, but really not worth the money!

I was really happy with a meal we had there last night! Super menu and excellent value for money given the quality of the food. Super service as well!

I had my birthday dinner here on Saturday and I was very happy with the evening. We were a table of 10 - which is always harder for restaurants. But the service was amazing. Bellagio somehow manages to get a real good balance between sophistication and casualness. The food was good, although our steak was overcooked. The dessert portions are huge - definitely a sharing opportunity! The menu is versatile and you can find decent mains for under R100. They also have a long wine list with pretty good prices. Although I was not completely blown away by the food, I would definitely go again!

Great vibe, achieving the balance between sophisticated high quality and nicely relaxed feel is not easy, and needs to be commended. Our waiter was 'Brilliant' and lived to his name. <br/><br/>I do need to mention I came late to a dinner their due to it being very hard to find, they have no signs and are situated in an office block that is all swiched off at night so I drove past thinking it (the office park) was closed. Also they are incorrectly placed in Google Maps. <br/><br/>The experience their was good though, the food was good, not great (for the price) but would go again due to the ambience and service.
Mark Wadley
Had a work lunch here, and for the life of me can't remember why it is that I haven't been to Bellagio for so long.<br/>The food was delicious, the service was good without being overly attentive, and the atmosphere very pleasant and not too noisy. Off street parking is a winner. All in all a great spot.
Vivian Casaletti
terrible food and service maybe because we were the only table with black people, who knows but one thing is for sure , ain't neva coming back again! don't believe the hype it was bad in blue bird, its worse in illovo!!!
Lisa
Went to Bellagio for a girl night last month and it was really good! All the food looked amazing and no one had any complaints. I had the calamari and it was great. The sauce was good and they gave me a good portion of chips. The other girls had steaks and they were cooked perfectly. <br/><br/>The wine selection is good and not over priced so that always helps. I would definitely go back again!
Anton Steyl
An enjoyable experience. The fondant is amazing.
Megan Saffy
Delicious ravioli and chocolate fondant!

Really enjoyed Bellagio. The restaurant is broken down into 2 sections which reduces the noise when compared to some large and open sitting areas, the chairs are comfortable and it's well decorated.<br/><br/>I think it's well priced for the quality of food provided; which is excellent. The salmon, chill and garlic starter was fantastic and chocolate fondant rounded the evening off well.<br/><br/>Can definitely recommend Bellagio, if you're looking for a 'smart dinner'or special occasion it's perfect.
Kallia Assonitis
I really enjoyed my dinner at Bellagio. It was a cold winter's night and Bellagio was the place to warm up. The ambiance was perfect, the waiter was attentive and the food was great. Best chocolate fondant I've tasted. They seem to have improved ten-fold since moving from Blu Bird.

Love the scallops and the Millie Full dessert is Scrumptious!

I've been there 10 times now and find it difficult to rate as it is so variable. Sometimes it's quite outstanding other times just good.<br/>The last time i went it was outstanding. The service has always been excellent.<br/>You can't beat it for ambience and the food and wine is reasonably price. In summer it's wonderful to sit outside under the trees. If it were consistently good it would be 4.5 and in my opinion one of the very top restaurants in Sandton if not Gauteng.<br/>It would be an added bonus if the one of the owners came around to enquire how the food/service was. ......they are a snooty pair.<br/>Nobody ever enquires. This could redound on them.<br/>Compliancy in the restaurant business can have its repercussions.

Love Bellagio's new venue and must say that it's one of my favourite places at the moment. Food is superb, staff are friendly and atmosphere is festive.

It is always a pleasure dining at Bellagio. Whether for a weekday lunch or weekend dinners, the atmosphere is well suited, casual yet classy. The waiters are exceptionally friendly and their service is professional. <br/><br/>The quality of the food is superb - the seared tuna salad is amazing as well as their other seafood dishes. Sushi is good and very fresh. All the pastas I've tried are delicious as well. But my favorite part remains the bread basket.<br/>The most scrumptious home baked bread with a sea salt crust. Amazing!

This is a great place for a romantic dinner/ dinner with your parents to celebrate something special. We were a rowdy group of tables celebrating a friends 30th, and we were very strategically placed in a private enclave. This was probably so that we wouldn't disturb the other dinners which comprised of older couples where the woman all have bobs and understated jewelry picked up on some exotic holiday/ from a family heirloom. All round though, the rowdy guests, and we'll traveled culinary connoisseurs were impressed by the food, and less begrudgingly paid the bill.
Zereth Kiregeya
Very intimate setting, the crowd is 'a bit older,' yet the service and the food were great
Barnes26manna
Great food, nice atmosphere. ... warm fires for the cold winter
Linguini
The Greek burger is great! As well as the penne pomodoro and tuna burger. This is a nice chilled restaurant with good food, friendly service and convenient parking. When you feel like going to a place that's relatively quiet with outdoor space, this is the ideal restaurant! We usually choose it for our Sunday lunches.

As regulars at Bellagio, we've always loved the food and enjoyed good service. Favorites include the crab capellini, line fish, sardines and zucchini fritters. The sushi and sashimi are better than any of the Japanese restaurants in Joburg. The salmon skin sushi is outstanding. Being a wine lover, I love that the waiters are well trained in this respect.
Ryno
This is a real down to earth restaurant that offers something between Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. If you sit down you are served with deep friend baby marrows which is absolutely delicious. The decor is interesting, a bit incoherent. This is definitely more a family restaurant than a first date restaurant. The food was satisfying, I had a bolognese pasta which was decent. The seafood is of high quality and looked appetizing. The service was good. I would recommend this place for a family dinner or just something casual.
