Review Clay Cafe - Hout Bay

This place is fantastic! Excellent kids area with plenty of variety. The clay painting thing is a great idea, creates a pretty unique experience. There is a lot of variety in the clay items and plenty of colours to choose from, so lots of fun there. The place overall is also great. Really nicely laid out and lots of energy. They’ve created a really great vibe there. The staff were also friendly and did a great job. The pizza is really great, but some of the other dishes, while they do look great, are a little bland, and they don’t have many sauce options, but it’s all very nicely prepared

This place is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This was such a fun time out! Firstly the service is phenomenal- very friendly and professional. We were basically walk-ins on an extremely busy Saturday. It was my daughters birthday and as we are from Joeys we did not know about this place until the last minute so did not make a booking. However the staff went out of their way to make a plan and it ended up being such a wonderful experience. They have an excellent and wide variety of clay objects you can paint. You order food and drinks while you paint. It is so relaxing and so much fun for both adults and children. I will definitely come again! There was even a gentleman who walked people to their cars with umbrellas because of the rain. Make sure you book!

It's one of the most relaxing and calming places I've been to. We ordered from the halaal menu and the food was amazing. The staff were so accommodating, friendly and helpful. Due to the calming nature of The Clay Cafe, while painting, I literally blocked out everything. Will definitely be going back again and will recommend this place to everyone.

We had a lovely time at Clay Cafe in Hout Bay. We came on a Sunday at 12:30pm and it was packed! Make sure to make a reservation upfront, not a place to go to spontaneously. It was very well organized. After we’ve been guided to our table. We received an introduction on the different techniques and our waiter took his time and wasn’t rushed at all. Food was super yummy, recommend the Toasties and Buddha Bowl for sure. Didn’t take long for it to be brought out either. In general I’d probably recommend to plan to be there for 3 hours. We got there at 12:30 and left at 15:15. All three of us chose to pain a mug. Tip: One thing I’d advise is, make a plan what you’d like to do in advance which will save you a lot of time. Pinterest is definitely the best source for it. Looking forward to pick up our items :)

It was our first time visiting and we loved everything. We cannot wait to go back. Girls couldn't play outside due to the rain but it looked beautiful. Pizza was great. Painting was so much fun and wine was good. Will definitely be back in the summer months.

I had such a fun time and lots of fun catching up with friends while painting my clay piece. The place is quite spacious and you don't feel crowded even when it is busy. The range of clay figures is much larger than the city cafe. The food was tasty and the wait was relatively short. My only issue was the payment process, we had to wait in a long line to pay which was a little frustrating as you typically expect the payment process to be faster.

The clay sculpture painting is truly a unique experience in Cape Town that my family love. We've been there twice now and both times we had a great time. Not all of us are naturally artistic, but none the less have great fun creating a memorable piece that I can keep forever on my bookshelf. My wife painted a serving plate which is awesome as we can actually get practical use out of some of the options. I was pleased to see young and old, men and women all enjoy the experience. They operate on reservations, but both times we were promptly assisted as walk-ins when a table opened up. They've got a secure kids play area with jumping castles and some exciting, unordinary kids playground equipment while you wait (or if your kids need a little break between painting you can let them run around). Its a tranquil experience taking a stroll around in their beautiful garden area, having a look inside the warehouse with all the complete sculptures and walking about seeing what other great ideas/art, other patrons have created. The first time we went (over a year ago) we only had dessert but were disappointed in both items. This time round, we were ecstatic to hear that they have a completely separate Halaal Menu and many more options for us to choose from. I can't comment on the meals, but the desert we had this time was better... still a 4/5 in my books though. Unfortunately, the only disadvantage to this experience, is that you have to head back again in about 3 weeks to go fetch the baked product. It's totally worth it though as they have to heat the sculpture which transforms your art into a glossy, colourful, solid masterpiece (see attached pics for before and after the baking process is done). The Clay Cafe has become an activity I look forward to indulging in over and over again in the future. The Cafe show many improvements since our last visit, boasting their success and popularity and as you can tell, a highly recommended activity in my books.

Very nice place, family friendly, food was amazing, and had so much fun painting our items. The service was a bit slow, our waiter seemed very busy, but will definitely visit again 😍.

Truly enjoyed the experience. Really helps you reflect and improves your concentration skills. Could sit and paint for hours without getting bored 💯💯

Clay Cafe is adorable. It allows adults to enjoy themselves and offers the messy option for the kids as well. It's fun for the entire family. They have a variety of items to choose from, a shelf filled with colours and they leave you with your imagination to do what you please. Once completed, it gets baked in the massive storeroom. It's so hot in there. There's ample space for everyone. Even if you're not going to paint an item, you can grab something to eat. Service was great and the vibe is just mellow. A total experience for one and all. The outdoors is fantastic. I absolutely love the view.
