Friendly staff, good food. A bit pricy, but worth it. Service was great

I had the most tender and tasty steak here. The waitress was very helpful and quick with the orders. The only thing that bothered me was that so many people asked how we were doing? I understand that the intention was good but we started thinking that we may be looking a bit sickly to attract so muchattention

Awesome meal! The fillet was excellent (melt in your mouth) as were the lamb chops. Cooked to perfection. The Dijon sauce was so tasty too.. 100% recommend.

A fantastic superb MEAT experience. Excellent service lovely atmosphere and generous portions but the taste is marvellous. No need to compare. Just go on and try it. My first 5 star rating!

💯 💯 💯 top class Steakhouse. Our waiter Vincent was an absolute champion ! Asked for a personal meal with a rump instead of sirloin and rib combo and he made it happen! And it was perfect 👌🏼 Keep up the extraordinary service and food Butcher Boys Hillcrest .

Very disappointed, I realise it specializes in steaks, my husband happy with his meal my vegetarian aubergine stack topped with provolone cheese was absolutely minute..couldn't have cost more than R30 to make and charge was R135. Ludicrously over priced and aubergine swimming in oil. I had a choice of 2 starches to bulk it up?

Had lunch. Rump steak good but not exceptional. Chicken schnitzel good. Veggies average. Staff friendly and efficient. Restaurant very nicely appointed. Recommended

Well done Andrew and team.Good service and our meals were perfect.Booze a tad expensive and as the place was full it was rather noisy, but overall great value for money (and so much better than the butcher place up the road!) Always pleasing to see that the management team were fully "hands on" and setting an example...a rarity these days.

So last night, hubby and I decided to go on a double date with our beautiful friends The Bodils.. Restaurant of choice, the newly opened Butcher Block Hillcrest (Hillcrest square) . When we walked in I was really WOWED (is that even a word?) The interior is beautiful, I honestly didn't expect the place to look this amazing! But one of the best parts was, every staff member we walked past greeted us, it made us feel very wanted! We were seated at the table and decided to start on cocktails, and have a bottle of wine with our mains. Us girls had the pimms jar, hubby had r&r jar and other hubby had a watermelon and basil cocktail (I had slight cocktail envy after tasting his) Drinks arrived quick, were delish and hit the spot after a long hot day in durbs! We decided to order 4 different starters, so we can all taste each other's. Mozam peri peri strips, beef carpaccio, deep fried camembert and calamari steaks. The strips were fiery, tender and succulent chicken, all round tasty. The camembert was crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, it's what cheese dreams of are made of! (We did feel it was a very small portion though, but maybe we are greedy) the beef carpaccio was the best of all the starters, so soft and melt in your mouth, and the salty pops of flavour from the capers, it was beyond delicious. Least favourite of the night, the calamari, it was rather chewy and the peri peri sauce it came in was hotter then the Sun! My mouth was on fire, couldn't even taste the calamari! (Mmmm seafood at a steakhouse?) Next up we ordered mains, we had to all go with steak, as this is a steakhouse. 2x fillets (med rare) with baked potatoes. 1x mushroom sauce 2 x rump steaks (med rare) with chips. Oh and a bottle of franschoek cellar shiraz to wash it down! Steaks were cooked to perfection, tender and drool worthy, the sides equally good. By this time, we were all in a food coma, but couldn't pass dessert, I mean come on deep fried Oreos.. yes you read right deep fried Oreos! We ordered 2 portions to share, oh my goodness they were tasty! Reminded me of little donuts, just found the 3 on a plate random, maybe it's the odd number, or my OCD! But seriously all in all our waitress Bulelo was great,So helpful, and always around when we needed her. Food great...drinks great...ambiance great, staff great and company even better! We will definitely be back! I highly recommend this restaurant

A few days ago, I was invited to like your Facebook page. I did so, and decided to give you a try for our anniversary dinner. I am SO HAPPY that we did! The trio of carpaccio will haunt my dreams as the best dish I have ever had. My fiance said it was the best meal he had ever had. Our waiter, Matthew, was impeccable, and we will definitely be back!

I had the opportunity of dining at the Butcher Block. I didn’t know what to expect. They’ve opened a new store in Hillcrest for about 6 months now and have brought something new to the Hillcrest restaurant scene. Upon arriving I didn’t really know what to expect but the waiters and manager on duty took good care of me. Really did a stellar job at making my dining experience enjoyable. Would I say that they went over and above what I wanted - not really. The food was honestly unbelievable! From their steaks to their monstrous burgers (even though they are a steak house). If you ever get a chance to visit Butcher Block, I highly recommend that you try their Honey and Dijon mustard sauce with their signature cuts of steak. I assure you, you won’t be disappointed! And the Deep Fried Oreos, yes, that’s right, Deep Fried Oreos with Vanilla ice cream - by far the best dessert I’ve had and I’m not even a sweet tooth. The coffee is also amazing. I would really like to have see more engagement and attentiveness from the waiters but that’s something that can be fixed. Other than that my dinning experience was enjoyable and I’ll gladly revisit them in the future.

Had my Birthday lunch at The Butcher Block yesterday. Both the food and the service were top notch. We'll be back...

3 meals brought home for the dogs. And no one asked us why? Sometimes there are off days and its acceptable! What's not is how the management deal with feedback. In this case exceptionally poor!

Opening night and the food was INCREDIBLE!!!!! The ambiance and decor is top class so glad we have a high end restaurant of this calibre on our doorstep. Well done to the team for an amazing experience.

I came over from England to celebrate my 70th birthday with my family who live here. They decided to treat me to dinner at this new restaurant for my birthday. The restaurant chain has a good reputation but Hillcrest certainly did not live up to that last night. My food was brought to me cold twice. It was sent for reheating a third time by which time it was inedible. I felt so sorry for my family, who were devastated. Five out of eight of us received sub standard meals and went home hungry. I appreciate that this is a new restaurant but they need to sort out these problems or the place will not last long. They spoiled what should have been a lovely celebration.

Our forays inland are rather occasional but with the lovely winter Durban weather, we decided to take the kidults for a scenic drive and late lunch before they wondered off to the hub of soccer frenzy... With the one kidult having enjoyed a few meals with friends at the Florida Road branch, we decided to try out the Hillcrest branch. This was a fantastic choice as the food, service, decor and ambiance was phenomenal. Our first time trying the chakalaka and pap and this really complemented the meals although next time I will be asking for a bit more chakalaka. Was a superb relaxed afternoon. This is fine dining without any pretentious nonsense.

Our first meal at Butcher Block a terrible disappointment! The management on duty were well aware of the issues but instead of taking our details (or reconfirming them as you had them already from our booking!), were trying to give us a card to email our complaint. Not acceptable. If customer service is a priority, we will expect a call on Monday - you have our details!
