Loved our lunch! Food was beautifully plated and fresh and delicious! Our waiter was very kind and friendly aswell.

OB now situated in the mall - it's a pity they lost the beautiful sea view. We ordered the platter for two and a fish platter. We enjoyed our dishes. Service was good- but we felt rushed as they wanted to close up just after 21:30.

This was an interresting experience. Lovely people and super friendly service. It was quiet though. There was a howling wind outside....but inside was very cosy. The food was really good. All round this was a very pleasent dinner with great service.

We love the ocean basket. It's good value for money. Situated on the promenade of the beach front. Spectacular views of the bay and landscape. Here u can never go wrong with a value for money meal. Service was good and food great.

There are a few restaurants in this area, if you are looking for amazing seafood at a good price then this has to be your choice. Excellent selection of fresh seafood, amazing flavors. The service could be a little more accommodating. The sea view is worth being seated at. Highly recommend this little gem

Haven't been to the new location, but the food was amazing We were with 4 and had platter for 1's and 1 calamari & prawns combo. The food was brought to our table quite quickly and it was delicious. I couldn't finish my whole tray, so for those with a tiny appetite should maybe not order the platter for 1 (which includes 3 mussels, 6 prawns, chips or rice, hake, calamari, and heads)

We visited over a long weekend for a late lunch. I guess they had been busy as despite the numerous empty tables we were allocated one that had not been cleared or relaid. We were relaxed and were happy to go with the flow. Once our starters arrived I realised there were squashed chips on the floor beneath our table. Service was good, our servers were attentive. There was one glitch when our table salad was forgotten. The food was delicious and fabulous value. That is one thing OB gets right, and this restaurant did a really good job of sending us excellently prepared dishes. The desserts were also very good and I was very happy with the quality of my coffee.

Just a bit expensive but Food was very good 👍

Came for dinner with two elderly relatives. The team were flexible and put together meals to suit out tastes. Very reasonably priced and was of course tasty! Would recommend!

Ocean Basket service in hermanus Old harbour is phenomenal,the owners were very hands on with checking in on their guest & the food came piping hot with lots of flavour. We had the deep fried battered prawns,zucchini,calamari & hake. It is served with 2 dips & a refreshing tomato,red onion & feta salad & a side of chips .It's a meal for 2 and the portion size is quite generous. A definite must try!!

On out way home from holiday we had a choice between Ocean Basket or Lemon Butter which is in the same building. Opted for Ocean Basket as they are better priced and you know what you getting.<br/><br/>We opted for the platter for 4 (myself, wife and 2 kids) and this was definitely sufficient. Wife was in the mood for mussels so ordered a starter portion. The platter is definitely value for money. Fish, prawns and calamari perfectly cooked (prawn not overcooked as they often are). And of course nothing beats that Ocean Basket long butter sauce.<br/><br/>On a slight negative, the service could have been a bit more enthusiastic and also the starter portion of mussels is quite small.

We are fans of the Ocean Basket's Platter for 2 and had it numerous times before at various Ocean Baskets in and around Cape Town. The experience we however made a few days ago in the Hermanus restaurant, made us decide not to go back to this branch.<br/>First of all, it had the atmosphere of a canteen. We placed our order, consisting of the Platter for 2, a glass of wine and a cool drink. Within 7 (!) minutes, 2 waiters brought the drinks, the complimentary bread with dips ...and our obviously pre-prepared platter. The good thing was that the food was at least hot but the chips were soggy, the grilled calamari tubes too salty and the prawns appeared to be not cooked properly. When we complained, the waiter said that he will call his manager and brought us immediately the bill though we didn't even ask for it as we were considering a dessert as we still felt like something after this unsatisfying meal which we didn't finish. We then paid the bill, the manager never came anywhere near us. We then approached the manager when we were leaving. She feigned interest and took down our details, creating the impression that we would be contacted which hasn't happened. Never again.

We had the most horrible experience in Hermanus Ocean Basket.<br/><br/>The owner was extremely rude, impolite, shooting and insulated us.<br/><br/>Some other complaints:<br/>1. Our waiters changed 3 times each time a different waiter.<br/>2. We were served with dirty ice.<br/>3. No spoon in the glass of ice, wife had to do it with her hand.<br/>4. Waiter made plenty of mistakes. Which is understandable after being rotated.<br/>5. We didn't eat the food after we were told to get out. Yet my father had to pay the entire bill.<br/>6. Waiter couldn't tell us what size the lobsters are on the lobster specials.<br/>7. Manager was totally unprofessional.<br/>

Worst Ocean Basket I have ever been. Rude waiters and manager with long hair couldn't care less. Even the owner of Ocean Basket doesn't lunch in his own restaurant.

Ocean Baskets get a bad rep nowadays. Why is that? Is it because we've all become too cool to be seen at a franchise restaurant? Or is it because there are better seafood places out there, who have better quality and better prices? Whatever it is, I'm afraid I've fallen into the trap too. <br/><br/>However, THIS particular Ocean Basket is the exception to the rule. It's very cleverly situated, allowing you to look out on crashing waves and whales splashing in the bay. The service is always friendly and fast, and their food has never disappointed in terms of freshness or value for money. Just ignore the typical Ocean Basket decor and empty chairs surrounding you and focus on the sea for the optimal dining experience. <br/><br/>At the end of the day, it's still an Ocean Basket, and there's just something about that that won't ever get my taste buds tingling with excitement.

For a small sea side town you'd expect the fish to be fresh but it wasn't. Not to say it was off but it tasted as if it might've when you eat fish in the landlocked provinces such as Gauteng. The sushi as well, the rice tasted as if it was either undercooked or left out for a while. But the service and the view are redeeming factors. Rather not come here if you're looking for fish in this town. I know familiar restaurants are generally the best pick in unfamiliar places but rather explore what Hermanus has to offer.

Best ocean basket I have been to. Was the most spectacular view for a date night. Our food was hot and fresh. The portions were great. And our order arrived so quickly. We didn't have to wait long at all. The fish was so tasty. The calamari and prawns were delightful. Will definitely return when in town.

Typically what you would expect from Ocean basket- good food- but with a fantastic view of the ocean and, sadly, far worse than average service.

Stock standard Ocean Basket. You know wherever you go, you will get the same consistency. The weather was a bit on the cold side and we wanted to go to Lemon Butta at 6.30 but was told they were full. This was the next choice available. Service is friendly but with the tourists around they were pretty busy.

If the manager wasn't such a lovely lady the whole experience would have been a train-smash. The waiter was beyond slow, not the best service ever.<br/>The meal was ok, disappointed with the quality of the prawns, when we brought it to the managers attention, we received prawns that did not even compare to the first batch (the first barch seemed to have been pre-cooked and terrible).<br/>Consistency was a bit of a let down (especially if you are an Ocean basket fan).<br/>Will visit again for the view, best view and when the food is done to standard, best place to have a meal.

Great views, good service and value for money seafood. We were there in August ordered the seafood platter for 2. The lobster special was sooooo delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection.

Had a platter for 2 with my girlfriend in lunch peak time while a festival was on and they still managed to bring our food out in less than 7 min. Good quality, good portions and good service. Will see me again

Best view of any Ocean Basket In the country. Service with a smile and food to die for. There is no better Ocean Basket out there. A must see!!!
