Ocean Baskets get a bad rep nowadays. Why is that? Is it because we've all become too cool to be seen at a franchise restaurant? Or is it because there are better seafood places out there, who have better quality and better prices? Whatever it is, I'm afraid I've fallen into the trap too.
However, THIS particular Ocean Basket is the exception to the rule. It's very cleverly situated, allowing you to look out on crashing waves and whales splashing in the bay. The service is always friendly and fast, and their food has never disappointed in terms of freshness or value for money. Just ignore the typical Ocean Basket decor and empty chairs surrounding you and focus on the sea for the optimal dining experience.
At the end of the day, it's still an Ocean Basket, and there's just something about that that won't ever get my taste buds tingling with excitement.
Best ocean basket I have been to. Was the most spectacular view for a date night. Our food was hot and fresh. The portions were great. And our order arrived so quickly. We didn't have to wait long at all. The fish was so tasty. The calamari and prawns were delightful. Will definitely return when in town.
Great views, good service and value for money seafood. We were there in August ordered the seafood platter for 2. The lobster special was sooooo delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection.

Had a platter for 2 with my girlfriend in lunch peak time while a festival was on and they still managed to bring our food out in less than 7 min. Good quality, good portions and good service. Will see me again

OB now situated in the mall - it's a pity they lost the beautiful sea view. We ordered the platter for two and a fish platter. We enjoyed our dishes. Service was good- but we felt rushed as they wanted to close up just after 21:30.
This was an interresting experience. Lovely people and super friendly service. It was quiet though. There was a howling wind outside....but inside was very cosy. The food was really good. All round this was a very pleasent dinner with great service.
We love the ocean basket. It's good value for money. Situated on the promenade of the beach front. Spectacular views of the bay and landscape. Here u can never go wrong with a value for money meal. Service was good and food great.

There are a few restaurants in this area, if you are looking for amazing seafood at a good price then this has to be your choice.

Haven't been to the new location, but the food was amazing
We were with 4 and had platter for 1's and 1 calamari & prawns combo. The food was brought to our table quite quickly and it was delicious. I couldn't finish my whole tray, so for those with a tiny appetite should maybe not order the platter for 1 (which includes 3 mussels, 6 prawns, chips or rice, hake, calamari, and heads)

We visited over a long weekend for a late lunch. I guess they had been busy as despite the numerous empty tables we were allocated one that had not been cleared or relaid. We were relaxed and were happy to go with the flow.
Once our starters arrived I realised there were squashed chips on the floor beneath our table.
Service was good, our servers were attentive. There was one glitch when our table salad was forgotten.
The food was delicious and fabulous value. That is one thing OB gets right, and this restaurant did a really good job of sending us excellently prepared dishes.
The desserts were also very good and I was very happy with the quality of my coffee.

Came for dinner with two elderly relatives. The team were flexible and put together meals to suit out tastes. Very reasonably priced and was of course tasty! Would recommend!

Ocean Basket service in hermanus Old harbour is phenomenal,the owners were very hands on with checking in on their guest & the food came piping hot with lots of flavour. We had the deep fried battered prawns,zucchini,calamari & hake. It is served with 2 dips & a refreshing tomato,red onion & feta salad & a side of chips .It's a meal for 2 and the portion size is quite generous. A definite must try!!
