Review Fisherman's Cottage - Hermanus

Lovely experience at Fisherman's. Oysters were top shelf. My fiance loved the sardines. We really enjoyed our afternoon sitting in the sun with some drinks.

We enjoy good fresh local seafood and were looking for an authentic local experience in Hermanus that want too (tourist) pricey and found this gem. Beautifully cooked locally sourced seafood in a cosy atmosphere with great staff. Highly recommended!!

We were in a big group and service was not up to the mark. My food was great (Linefish of the day - monkfish). But some others were not extremely happy with their food. The atmosphere is nice and cosy inside.

Really lovely place, and they have really prioritized quality over quantity which is great. We had an amazing two dinners here and was worth every penny

Excellent Menu. The Sweet potato, stuffed with Date Cream Cheese, topped with curried courgettes & mixed seeds was out of this world.

We enjoyed our evening at this quaint restaurant. Seafood is of good quality. I had the hake & chiosi. Mussels were so good. The seafood curry pot is excellent. Friendly and efficient service. Parking is available at the square. Make a reservation to avoid disappointment as the restaurant has limited seating.

The seafood here is phenomenal 😋 the staff are friendly the prices are great and the atmosphere just amazing, if I ever pass through here again I will definitely be back. Every meal I had here was absolutely 💯 👌

Couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Food, service, and atmosphere were top notch! Maxwell the GM hosted us at the chefs table (bar area) which completely added to the experience. A must stop next time you're in the area!!!!

Lovely place! Dropped by with a few friends last night. We got recommended the catch of the day which was the seabream and the kabeljau. Both were served on a risotto that would have been good enough for a shandalone dish. The oysters were very decent as well. Staff is generally friendly.

Once every while they have an open mic night (in our case a Thursday); must attend. We had the privilege to be there at the right place and at the right time. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere. An absolute must, even for the short stays!

I didn't order food unfortunately, but I enjoyed their drinks and live band. The staff's service is exceptional. I highly recommend to spend your evening there.its soo beautiful and cozy at night...

Wow! Excellent. Monk fish was the catch of the day. Never tried it before and the waiter explained it so nicely. What a great experience. Thank you!!!

We were on our way to Wine per Glass and the amazing smell caught our attention. Greeted very friendly in a full seating, and great atmosphere inside. Our waiter was attentive and helped with menu and recommendations. The owner went out of his way to secure a specific bottle of red for us. Curry, sole was superb. Well done Anton and Nicole, be proud

We had a lovely dinner at fisherman’s cottage. Book in advance! <br/>The service was good. <br/>For starters I had the mussels in cream sauce to share with my husband and it was the fresh and favoursome! Delicious. <br/>For mains I had the seafood curry, it was a very generous portion and every part of the meal was enjoyable. My husband had the line fish which was beautifully presented kabeljou with vegetables and I can’t fault it- but the curry was the winner for me. <br/>

The food and service were really great, a few more options for vegetarians would be great, the current options were served well and the seafood options were enjoyed

Completely bamboozled by price of line of the day vs catch of the day. One R105, one R195. Feeling very shafted because of an accident of wording!!

So fast. These guys were absolutely pumping, turning tables like mad, i think it helps that there's not a lot on the menu, like have fish or mussels or seafood platter, that's about it. Food comes out of the kitchen like kramer into Jerry's apartment.... I'll have the what oh thanks do you great good and for dessert? We'll need a speed point thanks bye.<br/>Its not a bad thing but i felt a little hurried.<br/><br/>We weren't very hungry, i had a starter black mussels in cream, partner had bouillabaisse and a side house salad which is not the same as a small house salad... but still quite good. Shared a very good malva after.<br/><br/>Its fine. Would go.<br/>

Hands down best restaurant in the Hermanus region. Great food, great service, good wine, lovely & cozy atmosphere. Well priced for the quality tasty meals.

With so many restaurants to choose from in Hermanus, its become a bit of a challenge to identify a restaurant where the quality of the meal and the enjoyment of the overall dining experience justfies the price charged.<br/>The most satisfying dining experience that I enjoyed over our Christmas holiday was at Fishermans Cottage. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. Our waiter gave us the time and the space to enjoy our meals but was never out of reach when we needed his attention.<br/>I ordered the sardines starter and yellowtail mains while my wife ordered the bread, humus and olive tapenade starter with the Argentinian mussel mains. We washed it down with chilled Durbanville Hills Savignon Blanc sparkling wine. Two hours flew by as we savoured the fragrances and flavours of each dish. We found nothing to criticise. <br/>We will definitely return and can recommend Fishermans Cottage to anyone looking for immaculately prepared and tasty seafood dishes at reasonable prices.

My favourite dish and chips in Hermanus. <br/><br/>A quaint little building with the history plastered with the magnificent history of the place. Small, a lot fire place, blankets on offer and pet-friendly, it's the most intimate restaurant you'll find in the town. <br/><br/>The staff are ever so accomodating, the menu vast and the food authentic; the calamari comes served in a clam! <br/><br/>An amazing experience and we will return.

Very nice and cozy place. The have a fire going in winter time that help to beat the chill away. Food is very good. Had hake and salad and had to make a choice between the two because the salad was so different than your normal salad(exceptional).

Nestled behind the Old Harbour Museum in Hermanus, this quaint establishment offered both flavour and charm. I tried the Snoek and Patat off their chalkboard menu, I definitely recommend that you try it too!

Stopped in Hermanus for lunch and landed up at the Fisherman's Cottage. Glad we did! Good food and well presented in an eclectic restaurant. Happy to recommend

Worst dining experience ever, negative attitude from the manager, wont even try the food at a place where you treated badly...we were looking forward to dine at this establishment...and for this restaurant customers service is primal for recurring business....

Hermanus is always busy especially this long weekend with the Extreme Sports taking place. We wandered past this quaint authentic building and were immediately attracted. I then spied some food on the tables and we were sold. The small inside area looked full but there were still a few tables outside under the large awning which we preferred but this filled up soon after we were seated. The service was slick and professional and our drinks came promptly. I had the linefish which they called "Sea Bream" which I discovered was Steenbras, a popular local line fish not often seen on menus. I had a generous potion very well cooked, juicy and very tasty. It was served on sautéed potatoes with a delicious mushroom sauce. Michele had the Chicken schnitzel which was accompanied by a large green salad, plenty of peas and beans, not much tomato, topped with feta. The accompanying sauce was a mild blue cheese which was also yummy. The only strange part was the 2 slices of ham plonked on top of the chicken? Never had schnitzel which ham and it didn't really add to the otherwise delicious meal. They have good craft beers and local wines with strong coffee to finish off! What a lovely find in the heart of Hermanus. Must come back for the sardines.

What a quaint and authentic place!!!! I had the line fish Kabeljou.. they cooked it PERFECTLY! Velvety, light and tasty and served with a lovely smoked risotto! It paired so well with the local and fragrant Wynskool Sauvignon Blanc that we had! Our waiter was friendly and super helpful, always giving us special attention! We could resist sharing a lavender and honey creme brûlée which was out of this world and totally worth it!

Perfection!! It was a slightly chillier night than expected in the heart of summer in Hermanus and the cosy Fishermans Cottage hit the spot flawlessly!<br/>What could be better than snuggling up, in a quaint 200year old stone building, sipping red wine beside a crackling candle with the smells of all sorts of homemade culinary delights wafting out of the wooden-shuttered kitchen nook!? The food was just as gorgeous and I was so excited to see an actual "vegetarian section" on the menu!! 👏🏻 Highly recommended!

Full of character , we enjoyed a delicious bouillabaisse soup , fish curry and a snoek dish between us and they all came out tops.<br/><br/>Fairly priced and good service.<br/><br/>If you visiting Hermanus pop in for a visit, in the centre of town.

We popped in with our dog. Our lovely waitress offered her water & doggie was happy.<br/>Starters were extremely tasty.<br/>Mains were even more delicious. All round.<br/>Well worth a visit :)

Wonderful Vibe. Great Service. Wonderful Food. It's a must to try when you are here and possibly somewhere that would become a regular place to catch up and enjoy the wonderfully prepared meals.

Amazing place with a cozy vibe! The food was fresh and the portion sizes were great! Ideal for date night with the loved one. Humble people and the chef accommodated us with a special request. In the famous words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'll be back!

Very nice presented food and good quality. We had a very quiet Sunday afternoon, not sure if that will always be the case. Will come again.

Second time at this restaurant and still a very happy customer! Enjoyed our dinner, great food. My family found he place cosy and warm and we each loved our dishes. Will definitely recommend this whenever you make your way to Hermanus.

Nestled in one of the oldest buildings in town is the Fisherman’s Cottage, a family-owned restaurant where you can’t help but feel like you’ve been welcomed into their home. Seafood plays a decent part across the menu pages, as you’d expect, with good choices for meat lovers as well as a few things for non-carnivores.

The best!!!! This is a finely balanced seafood experience with a superb menu. We had the fish soup starter. Absolutely heavenly. Then we chose the simplest fish and chips main and were blown away. They have a selection of the best wines from the region like SUMA Ridge Maritimus and the personnel make sure that you enjoy the experience.
