Review Almost Orange - Hartbeespoort

Absolutely beautiful space that opens out onto a courtyard area. Reminds one of a little European restaurant in Summer. Great vibe and atmosphere surrounded by beautiful views and the orange orchards.

This was an interesting delight to happen across. The atmosphere of the local is sensational, with an immense Portugese/Mediterranean feel, with superb views and accompanying background music. The cocktails we indulged in were exquisite with an air of relaxation overcoming you. This is certainly a place where you can bring your SO for some relaxation and a pleasant cocktail lunch.

Easily one of my favourite places! Amazing place, service, delicious cocktails and great food. Only wish they allowed kids!

This place has the makings of a great weekend outing - a mini road trip, fantastic location with great scenery and a variety of drinks. I would highly recommend making a reservation. The service from staff was amazing. Although we waited a little while for our orders to be taken, the food and drinks arrived pretty quickly. We were seated outside and it was a beautiful warm day, sitting underneath a massive tree which provided ample shade and a great cooling breeze. The decor is great and this whole venue is instagrammable, pictures look great no matter where you take them. They also host parties so be prepared for increased noise levels in addition to the usual restaurant chatter. I would highly highly recommend making reservations because it got very full, very quickly - it would also help in cases where there are party bookings because seating space is not the biggest. The menu isn’t all that diverse, it’s platters and some finger foods called small plates. We had the almost orange platter and it was delicious, everything was cooked well. I enjoyed the zucchini, the samosas and the skewers. The fillet on the skewers was a little bit overcooked but there was still some flavour in it. I do wish they’d give steak knives because cutting into beef with a butter knife is quite the challenge. They have a great variety of drinks - alcoholic drinks ie brews, wines, a great variety of gins, cocktails and hard liquor. All the cocktails are available in the virgin option, according to what we were told. We had the almost orange cocktail and the kiwi blueberry mojito. They tasted amazing with the right amount of sweetness, the orange juice in the cocktail wasn’t too bitter which was great. We had the Belgian chocolate tart served with vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was perfection, just the right amount of sweetness and cocoa. Perfect way to end the day spent.

A great away-from-city experience with a scenic setup, aesthetically pleasing surroundings and interior design, and friendly staff! The prices are affordable and they have a loaded drinks menu! The platters were smaller than expected, and took some time to prepare (we were 5 people who ordered 3 platters and waited 30-40 minutes).

The 4 stars this restaurant is getting from me is mainly for the venue. The setting is stunning! We sat right in the orange orchard and it was beautiful. It was quite disappointing though how mediocre the food was. We had the Orchard Platter, which was around R330. For that price we expected quality, but sadly the items were quite lacklustre. The Basil Pesto had no basil flavour, the prawn cocktail was tiny shrimps in a mayo sauce, and the rissoles and riblets were underwhelming. The roasted “peppers” was one tiny, laughable sliver of a pepper. The saving grace of the platter was the delicious ciabatta bread. So definitely a great spot to try out, I just hope that the food improves!

This was a beautiful place. Well worth the drive out. The food was delicious and the drinks are done so well. Lovely for a couples getaway. Service was also just as good as the food and drinks. I'll definitely be back.

Arrived at a restaurant located in the middle of an orange plantation , seated under large trees where designer gins accompanied platters of foods , finished off with turkish delight ice creams and orange cake . The experience was great , definetly a place to take friends to for special celebrations . Will be back.

Loved the gin menu!! I think they have over 60 variations of Gin. The food was okay as well. The vibe was amazing, almost like we weren't in SA.

I’ve been meaning to visit this place for the longest time and it did not disappoint. First let me talk about the place itself, it’s so gorgeous , we were seated outside with such a great view of the amazing orchard. Now to the food we started off with the meat platter (Kudu & Springbok) which was quite the experience,it being my first trying kudu. We then followed up with the cheese platter and obviously you can’t go wrong with that, oooh before I forget I had the Aviation Gin ( Ryan Reynolds ) to drink yummy. A definite must try and I’ll be visiting it again.

Situated on the foot of the Magaliesberg with views of the Orange groves complimented by the rustic look and feel of the restaurant, all elements setting the stage for a fantastic dining and gin tasting experience. Friendly staff to help with selection of food and drink to the perfectly prepared platters of your choice. All in all, a perfect outing for the family.

One of our ultimate favourite lunch spots must be Almost Orange in Hartbeespoort. This gem is on the same premises/part of the very well-known Silver Orange Bistro. We actually haven't visited Silver Orange Bistro before, because we just keep driving past to get to Almost Orange. This part of the premises used to be utilised as a function/wedding venue, but a couple of years ago the decision was made (yay!) to have a separate eatery here, and open it up to more foot traffic/customers It truly feels as if you are spending time "Under The Tuscan Sun" surrounded by an orange orchard. This time of the year the orchard is a beautiful sight of green and orange, so it makes the experience even more special. Almost Orange has got a concise menu, featuring mainly sharing platters. But don't fret, you will find a platter that will satisfy your cravings. Our standard order is the Mediterranean Platter (Marinated olives, Roasted peppers, Marinated artichokes, Hummus, Tapenade, Sun-dried tomato pesto, Greek feta and Ciabatta) with an order of the most delicious Panzanella salad you've ever tasted. Their wine list features a few wines that you probably won't find in the immediate vicinity , as well as a few imported Portuguese wines. This is the perfect spot for a long and lazy lunch with friends, we just keep going back for more. No children under 16 allowed.

Ambience: Relaxed outside seating, on the patio for the sunseekers or under the trees for people like me Service: Friendly, efficient Menu Variety: Mainly platters, but lots of vegetarian and banting options available if that is your vibe Food: Fresh, delicious, perfect for sharing Drinks: A good wine menu, as well as an extensive gin selection. Beer and cocktail lovers should find something to their taste.

Perfect restaurant for a relaxed Sunday lunch. The restaurant offers a great variety of craft beer, craft gin and food platters. Service was great! Be sure to book, they are quite popular. Perfect escape from the city for a quick break out in the countryside.

Great place for tasty Tapas, delicious drinks (Gin aplenty) and really “chilled cape wine estate” feel for a lazy weekend afternoon with friends.

Fine dining on the same property, at the Silver Orange.

This place is such a hidden gem! Incredible ambience, nestled away in an Orange farm, impressive Gin menu and tasty tapas sharing platters. Highly recommended.

We arrived at almost orange on heritage day as we have heard so much about it. We didn’t make a booking but the whole restaurant was empty, we asked to sit at a table and will leave when the booking arrives. We were then asked to leave our table because the people arrived even though there were 4 other tables open. In my mind I would always want to accommodate and keep my customers happy. Will never go there again as apparently they are too exclusive and not worried much about what their customers think.

Ambience:
I was absolutely blown away by this venue! It literally feels like you’re in a French countryside.

Food:
We loved the fact that you go here for platters rather than huge meals. We decided to have the almost orange platter and the orchard platter to share amongst us. The duck&fig samosas were delicious! We then had the creme brûlée and the chocolate tart which were both so delicious.

Service:
Our waiter was the best! Very friendly and attentive.

We will definitely be back.

Lovely spot! Quiet and stylish, situated inside an orange orchard. Great selection of gin, craft beer and wine with platter and tapas menu. There is a lovely area out back under the trees. The perfect escape from the city

This is such a gorgeous spot!
It’s the perfect place for a lazy afternoon with friends.
The venue is breathtaking!
The menu is small, but offers a nice variety.
Mostly platters, small plates and salads.
I only managed to swing past for a gin.
The wine list and gin selection is extensive.
I will definitely be back.

Almost Orange is situated behind the ever so popular Silver Orange. The decor is modern with a Spanish feel to it and overlooks the orange grove. The atmosphere is upbeat and you immediately want to order one of their signature gins. Food is served on platters and everything is delicious. The duck and fig samosas is a must, I would order extra just to make sure you don't have to share :)

An awesome addition to the phenomenal Silver Orange Bistro - a Cape inspired wine and gin bar that overlooks the orange orchid- perfect for an after lunch G&T or extra glass of wine. #KevFabFood loved the added extra special stop.

A group of us ended up at Almost Orange in Hartbeespoort quite by accident this past weekend as it really is hidden in the beautiful citrus orchards at Altyd Mooi Farm.

On their food menu you will find a combination of delicious platters (that serve two) or light meals and salads.

For me on the food side, the winner was a toss up between their:
1. Signature Orchard Platter: duck fig samoosas, Halloumi, riblets, boiled prawns, basil pesto & ciabatta AND
2. Cheese Platter: Boeren Kaas, Gorgonzola, smoked paprika goats cheese, camembert, mature cheddar and Brie.

On the drinks side, they have a huge selection of gins, premium liquor, craft beer and hand selected wines, but they seem to be best known for their gin collection!

I love the relaxed, laid back vibe in their gardens and loungers!

*Recommendation: Just a note that Almost Orange is only open on the weekends:
Saturday 11:00 – 18:00; Sunday 11:00 – 17:00

For more, find me on Instagram & Twitter: LaurasWorldza
