Review The Windmill Restaurant - Hartbeespoort

Not often that I do the 5 star thing, but this place has so much to be proud of. The staff are excellent. As we walked in we were greeted by a very young lad. He asked all the right questions and then found us a perfect table. JJ, our waiter was quick with the drinks and made a suggestion that was really tasty. While sitting we were attended to and check on to see if we were satisfied and if we needed anything. The location and atmosphere was perfect. The Gardens are well maintained and quite serene. I will definitely be visiting again.

We ordered some waffles and coffee when we visited the windmill restaurant. I thought I would try something fancy and ordered the apple custard waffle. I do feel like there's just way too much going on. I think just a normal waffle with ice cream would've been perfect. Otherwise, great place to relax, have something to eat and enjoy the view.

Toothsome, freshly baked waffles; they were airy and light 🤤. It was a nice Sunday treat after a long walk for grocery shopping in Jasmyn 🛒... Plenty of variety was offered, from the sweet ones to the savoury types 🧇🧇... You can pick your own favourite (ice cream or cream) toppings as well: coffee ☕, amarula, banana 🍌, cheesecake 🍰, rum and raisin, and many more

Food: From the first bite to the return trip, a resounding "YUMMMYYYYY!!!" echoed through our taste buds. While the GOOD Waffles were unfortunately out of stock on our second visit, the sugary treat that followed was still amazing. The sweetness prompted us to share the portion, and it was more than satisfying. Service: Jade and the staff continued to impress with their friendliness and warmth, making each visit memorable. They even graciously assisted us in capturing a lasting moment with a picture. Atmosphere/Environment: With spring/summer painting vibrant colors around us, the atmosphere was simply stunning. The blooming beauty of the surroundings added an extra layer of delight to our dining experience. Also the addition of a small market and a fruit and veg shop on-site adds to the charm, making every visit to Harties a delightful treat. Verdict: 🌼🍴 (Rating: 5/5 stars) The Windmill Restaurant consistently delivers delightful culinary experiences amidst picturesque surroundings. Despite the waffle mishap, the overall charm, friendly staff, and vibrant ambiance make it an irresistible stop in Harties.

We had lunch today. We sat outside in garden under the trees. The food was great. My mother and I ate the oxtail waffle with veggies - It was delicious! My wife & children enjoyed the chicken & cheese waffle. They were also very impressed. My daughter then ate as a desert - the bar one caramel waffle. She was also impressed with it.

It is a tranquil environment, really enjoyed my food and the sound of the different birds while eating. Would definitely recommend them.

For those of you who like Dutch food, this is your place. Nice place to stop if you are taking the family out for a drive around the dam. Their waffles are worth a try

What an awesome experience. The service is excellent! My hubby had the Windmill breakfast and I had a waffle with ice-cream. Both were fresh and absolutely delicious. We received our food a few minutes after ordering which was great as we were starving! The cappuccino and double espresso coffees were great too! So worth the drive for an awesome experience. We will definitely be back!

A fine establishment. My server was very friendly and gave us the best drink recommendations. The food was served faster than any other restaurant that I've ever visited. I wasn't even finished with my starter when the main course was served. The outside seating is not under a roof, instead the tables have umbrellas for shade. The food was tasty, nothing extraordinary though. The menu is quite small.

More than 10 year old. A must for n Sunday drive to the dam and treat yourself to something sweet or savoury. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were seated quickly and given menu. Drinks Oder was quick and the filter coffee was great. I ordered a banana waffle with ice cream. We’re given syrup’s with the waffles. Staff constantly asking if everything was good. Lovely views from any of the seating area in the garden. Jasmine freshly farmer market a mere 25 meters away for all your local produce. Lots of small stalls on Sunday that we were there. I believe there is a bookshop in the top area. Parking is safe and acces controlled. I can recommend Windmeul wafel house as a place to treat yourself or someone special

💜 9 January 2022 - Absolutely cute little market before you enter the actually restaurant. They have this big board to tell you all the activities in harties. Which is absolutely amazing considering if you love adventures. My partner and I went to the waffle restaurant and the waffles are to die for! The Windmill is also very cute. 💜 27 March 2022 - We went back here. I'm just coming back to write a second part to my experience coming here again. We went to the restaurant on the top this time and the view is absolutely amazing. The food came very fast and the waiter was always helping and serving us. Not really crazy over their food compared to the places I've been but it's convenient for a place like theirs otherwise coming here again was yet again nice.

Me and my parents had a wonderful lunch at this Dutch themed restaurant. The restaurant is situated inside, as the name implies, a windmill. It is very spacious and has a sophisticated atmosphere. The hake and chips was truly exquisite. Really worth the visit. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We went for a breakfast, but learned breakfast only served until 10:30. Friendly staff. Very busy over a Saturday. They have blankets for a windy and cool day. We were easily moved from outside to inside. The staff were helpful. We ordered the periperi chicken livers. Was a bit dull, but we spiced it up with their "boere tabasco". We also ordered the kruket. This was very nice!! Will be going back!

I love this place! The service was so awesome, it was family run so we could get extra good service from the waiter and the kitchen. The food is typical pub food and it’s great because the menu is different. How often do u see rollmop on the menu? Good job guys!

I just had the most amazing spinach and feta pancake at this restaurant. the service is awesome and the venue is so beautiful. it's a great place for a family to eat shop and browse the markets. I highly recommend it here

Wonderful service and great food especially on the Easter Monday holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and our waitress was excellent. Kroketten come highly recommended.

Our experience at the Windmill was unfortunately not great. Firstly the menu is very limited. But even then, I’d describe the food as basic and average. We were also unlucky to get poor service that day, probably because they were incredibly busy. Overall though we walked away with a poor experience.

Staff were unfriendly and food was mediocre at best. The description of your food vs what you get after waiting 40 minutes (and the restaurant was not busy) is a real disappointment.

My wife was serving with a big plate of chips, enough for five people, when she ordered a side portion with her food. The chips were also oily and you could taste old used oil. The chips cost R28 extra compare to her order of R34. The owner, Vikus and dad, Johan weren't interested to address or apologise to our complain and both followed an arrogant attitude. Johan want to explain to me how restaurants operate and Vikus suggest that we visit the other two restaurants on the premise if we are not happy with them. May this arrogance explode in your face!

Atmosphere - Breathtaking views taking your mind and soul to the streets of Amsterdam.

Food - Pretty average. Beautiful presentation however nothing special to the dish.

Service - Slow. Waited almost an hour for my pancakes.

First impression was great. The food was GREAT, however the service was that of a low standard... seems as if waitress didn't care about guest. Had to ask for silverware and sauces for burger and salad... the service from the bus boy outweighed the service of the head waiter...

On a daytrip to Harties we decided to stop for a quick coffee - and of course I had to try the waffles (although I must admit, I confused the Windmill Restaurant with the Windmeul Waffle House which is actually downstairs from this restaurant. The service was quite slow, we waited long for the bill, and the waffle was a little chewy, so it was quite an average experience....

29.04.2017 On our way we stopped here for a quick break and some breakfast. At the time we didn't realise this wasn't the waffle place we had planned on stopping at.

Nonetheless we enjoyed this even more. Our waiter John was an absolute pleasure, in fact all the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable on the menu items. We had the cheese burgers, the Chicken Cordon Bleu and the Krokettan. Everything was absolutely delicious. My mom said it was probably the best food she has had in a long time. The fries were crunchy and crispy and our burgers tasted like burgers.

They do have a limited menu during the various eating times, so it might not suit everyone. Definitely a great start to the morning to keep us going on our journey
