Review Schwaben Butchery - Germiston

This is a rare gem in the industrial area for a nice breakfast or lunch if one has the time. The food was excellent and service was fast and friendly. I had a breakfast and my son a pie and chips

Great place for a quick lunch! Value for money and awesome food! Also a wide variety of meat, sauce and spices available from the deli!

We went here for a Friday lunch and what an experience. This is a butchery but with a twist. One can sitdown and order various German meals and beer. Here is a bar and they serve many German beers. The food of course is really fresh and well prepared. The portions is very big and the service is quick. After your meal you can walk into the butchery and buy various products at very good prices. I bought biltong and it was tasty. Like biltong should be. I will visit this place again for sure.

Holsteins has a great menu and many options, was there last before I went plant based so sadly for me the options were limited but my colleagues that were with me thoroughly enjoyed their meal and my sandwich and fries was also awesome. Maybe some plant based options would be a nice addition.

Great food had the eishbien and it was delicious will definitely be back again. The service was nice as well.

Food was good, was a bit of a challenge with the kids to keep them occupied. A childrens area or play area would be a welcome addition. Service from the staff was quick and the wait for the food was decent. Three german beers on tap if you feel like a cold one. Big screen all over if you want to watch a game. Averall a thumbs up from all of us !!

A great German butchery with everything you'ed expect to find, tasty, quality meats at reasonable prices and tables outside where you can sit and enjoy a scrumptious meal and cold beer on tap, I love the place.

You need to know that it's a German Processed Meats Factory. So they very much stick to that cuisine. They have fresh meat like a normal butchery too, but it's not a huge section. The food is traditional. They have take away and sit down options.
Fiona Rowe
My favourite deli. They sell these amazing eishbein and bacon pies. A treat for lunch. Beautiful meat products.

My favorite place for my Christmas Turkey and Gammon friendly staff is the 2nd year purchase online in store pickup. I wish they could deliver in Pretoria East, but its ok.

Best German food around! Authentic and tasty. Nice to have a quick bite but something needs to be done about the birds and the droppings around/on tables. Otherwise everything else is just great

What can you say?
I was confused about what to get and how to get it. The stuff i wanted was given to me wrapped to go but some was sent to a table where i wasn't sitting. I didn't know where or how to pay and the staff were particularly unhelpful. I'm not a local, and I'm not German and they made sure i knew it.
Apart from that, the food is wonderful. Traditional german pig products and pickled salads.
Place could be less hostile but I'll go again next time i need to go to builders.
Oh... they make ok coffee

Perfect place to grab a pork belly roll, the butchery is fantastic and it kinda overflowed to a great place to grab lunch, German food at its finest

Lunch on 2nd January 2018
Surprised but happy to find it open
Had bockwurst sauerkraut with roll
Cheese-grillers and bratwurst
Erdinger beer to wash it all down
Order at deli counter and then served at your table
Authentic German fare and efficiency

So, I have been to another Schwaben based in Randburg but this one has quite a unique twist. It felt like a food court where you order all the food in a counter, pay and then the food gets delivered. Well, in relation to the other outlet, the food was alright but lacking in variety. Other than that, there is a supermarket that sells a variety of cold cuts and of course different types of German sausages and meats. However, they appear to be pricey.

Eisbein and Chicken Schnitzel are delicious and gives you an authentic German experience! Relaxed atmosphere and same staff who have been there forever

A couple of colleagues and I decided to try it after we came across it by accident, although skeptical at first we were not dissapointed! The deli has that authentic German feel to it; meat and groceries to the side and the restaurant ordering counter at the back. The staff were all extremely friendly, the prices are reasonable, the food came quickly and was ever so scrumptious. It doesn't score a 5 because it could benefit from a greater variety - please add chips to the menu! That said - some of the best German food we've ever had, the end.

You can definitely tell it's a German shop. I've never been to Germany but walking into this deli/ restaurant I felt definitely gave me a sense of what Germany would be like. The smells automatically made me salivate and hungry for a nice hot meal. So I jumped in line and waited for my turn. Today was a cold day and they really lived up to my standards of fulfilling my desire for a nice warm meal. The food is traditional German food with a cute little cold meats and cheese deli as well. The only downfall was the service. They weren't very friendly or attentive. Otherwise, go and enjoy your near German experience.

Very disappointing. My family comes here often and we generally well pleased with the food, but today was gross. I got pork belly with mixed vegetables and a potato type hash brown. The pork was half fat; half my slice had no pork meat what so ever, the other half's fat hadn't been rendered enough. The pork crackling was no crackling whatsoever, only a slab of rubber. The roasted vegetables were bland and not enjoyable and the hash brown was oily, and it's crispness gone from sitting too long

Looking for typical German food with an atmosphere ? This is the place for you. Traditional and tasty. Give the potato bake and steak roll a try

I finally got a chance to get my hands on some tasty German food at Schwaben and I was well impressed. The seating area outside is large and not too welcoming, and we didn't know you had to place your order inside (we saw the footnote on the menu poster eventually). However the food and the awesome people in the deli inside definitely make up for it.

It's quite confusing knowing what to order as the menu isn't that extensive and the counter at the deli has a whole bunch of things on display. I ordered the Pork Belly Roll which I didn't see on the menu but my boyfriend had had it here before. It was two thick slices of delicious (but quite fatty, dieters avoid) pieces of pork belly in a roll with mustard and pickles. It was really delicious, it only lacked maybe a nice gravy or sauce. My boyfriend ordered the Currywurst which was delectable , the sauce was just the right amount of orangey-sweetness. We also ordered some potato salad and I bought a bit of saurkraut from inside, both very good accompaniments to any meal.

Overall it's an awesome little spot to grab a quick bite and to peruse the various tasty looking things on display inside. It's just a pity it only opens till 2pm on Saturday so get there early if you don't have a chance during the week.

I f you are a fan of Pork or German cuisine then I suggest you try the place. Their Eisbein was well prepared and quite reasonable. Their meat is quite fresh and you can order or buy from the butchery as well.

Great German food that is seriously original. My favourite is the spaetzle with anything and fresh bread/roll and butter with a Weizen beer. The cold meats are little expensive but always a fantastic treat.

Been there a few years ago. About 5 year. Bought an Eishbein from them that was off. Never went back again. Maybe I must give it a try when I am in the area again.

This place is a treasure trove for foodies. They have a great deli section with imported German products. They produce all their sausage products on the premises. The veal loaf in a roll snd the currywurst with potato salad are my favourites. Great selection.
Bleedingears
German lunchtime eatery, where you get to pick exactly what you want from the food on display. Great steak and mince pies and the spezla isn't bad either.

If you are in the area and also looking forward to good Germen food this is the place to go. The food is good quality and also friendly staff.

Schwaben is the best place to go if you are looking for a delicious german lunch or are searching for different german products. Their food is fantastic- especially the chicken schnitzels, the pork kebabs and the potato salad that has bacon bits. All the products are high quality and worth every cent you are paying for it. The staff are really great and there is a lovely family atmosphere. A must if you are in the area and looking for some great food and drink.

Schwaben was one of my favourite places to go as a tween as I always knew I was going to get delicious food. A personal favourite of mine was the Eisbein and the meat was always really good from the butchery.

This is where I end up ordering when I forgot to pack lunch because it is close to my work. I would recommend against going between 12:00 and 13:00 if you are on a tight schedule as they are always full during the lunch time rush. I highly recommend the beef olive as it has never let me down. Their marinara sauce I believe should be bottled and sold in the shop. I adore their wide range of cold meat and cheese for sale as it is difficult to find such a variety in commercial shops. This family run restaurant has a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.

Biltong is damn decent. Also not a bad option for a quick lunch. Quality of food is also good buy variety of hot food never changes.
Good deli selection as well.

Chicken schnitzel for lunch today. Tender and full of flavour. Service is always good and staff are very friendly. Also ordered a variety of meats to take home which are always great as well. Definitely worth a visit!

The perfect place to satisfy your craving for German cuisine. I love the deli vibe and simple tables outside. Watch out for the local birds though..

Went to Schwaben for a quick lunch in between watching weightlifting :) we had to place the order inside before sitting. I ordered the chicken schnitzel. It was good just quite oily. A very pub style meal.
Best German comfort food in probably all South Africa. I cannot stress how delicious their scalloped potatoes are! I heard about this place from family, and stopped in today. Completely blow away. It's a great deli. Top 10 on my list.

I've been eating here for more than 14 years and in all that time they've never disappointed me. They make and then sell and serve traditional German foods. The quality of their foodstuffs is outstanding. From buying goodies for Christmas to eating a juicy sausage with cold potato salad to enjoying an excellent German beer, their produce is absolutely outstanding. The place is always packed with people either buying fresh sausages & various meats & salads & cheeses & beers & biscuits & chocolates to people sitting at the tables and tucking into a yummy German food meal.
The service is always great & on the ball.
The freshness, quality & tastiness of a meal eaten outside at the wooden tables is absolutely excellent.
I can't praise this wonderful little restaurant/deli/butchery enough. Definitely worth a visit & worth every cent.
