Review Dutton's Cove Restaurant - George

We stayed here for a week in October 2023. Great views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes. The restaurant is located conveniently close to the units, with amazing food and prices. We ate there almost every evening and can honestly recommend them. The food was excellent!

Lovely restaurant with an amazing view of Herold's Bay. They have a variety of options on their menu and not only seafood. They have outstanding service and they are quick with the food. We had burgers and it was arguably one of the best burgers in the Garden Route. Definitely recommend Dutton's Cove for a weekend lunch with the family or even a nice dinner. The restaurant is spacious and has different seating options available especially for large groups.

Absolutely love Dutton's Cove. The accommodation is perfect and beautiful. They can invest in better coffee plunger that dont let the coffee pieces through and maybe put milk in the fridge? Still awesome place to stay The restaurant food is superb and the atmosphere is very casual and homey. Will definitely recommend.

We have had many fantastic meals here with family and friends The staff is always professional and the kitchen very accommodating especially prepared my dishes separately due to seafood allergies Food always excellent well prepared tasty with decent portions The best location for a beautiful view of Heroldsbay while having a drink or enjoying a fabulous meal Nice outside seating for summer

Doggy-friendly, amazing view, and THE BEST fries I've had in my life. The burger I had was so yummy, although I wasn't thrilled with the texture of the meat patty - a little too finely minced for my taste. Overall a great experience.
Ink Pot
We discovered this gem by accident and decided to have a coctail there. Despite loadshedding at the time, the service was excellent, and the coctails yummy. We decided to go back two days later to try the food. It was so worth it. The food is delicious. We will definitely pay them a visit again when we're in the area. Well done. Great staff, food, cocktails, and view.

This is a review of the restaurant, not hotel as we stayed in an Air B&B. We ate here on our first and last night of our holiday with 2 young kids (8 & 6) and I have to say it was just wonderful. First time inside as we managed to get a reservation. The best mussel pot I've ever had, not sure I was meant to but I finished the sauce too! You have to try it. Last night, after a week of braaing/red meat I felt like a veg of sorts and had the Pasta (butternut, olive, tomoto, pesto) and this too was delicious (huge portion). We sat outside and they turned on the outdoor heaters so even in the middle of winter (July) we enjoyed our dinner legs wrapped in their soft blankets. We'll go back there for sure on our next visit to Herold's Bay.

Had the best stay at the guesthouse. The view is out of this world. The food from the restaurant is an 11/10. Truly didn't want to go home.

Lovely place with a great view. I was surprised they don't serve pizza though

Lovely restaurant overlooking Heroldts Bay. Good choice of dishes which are well prepared. Love their Chicken Livers and Sushi options. Cosy with fireplace on cold days. Great service!

It was our first time in Herold's Bay - Dutton's Cove came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Amazing view. Highly attentive service. Large portions of top-notch food at reasonable prices. Thank you for a memorable experience - can't wait to return for more!

One of my absolute favourite places. Fish is melting in the mouth. Burgers are really good. View is amazing. Friendly service. Highly recommend a visit.

The calamari was a huge disappointment. At R135 for a few strips, tasting like they were cooked in boiling water. No lemon, I had to ask for lemon.
The waiter was wonderful, offered to complain and offered another plate, which we refused.
Manager was nowhere to be seen.

I was extremely disappointed with the meal. Had two overseas guests, starters did not arrive together and steak was over cooked, prawn starter was soggy. So was very imbarrest and disappointed.

Loved this spot... Beautiful view! The waitors knew the menu and made great suggestions... The food was out quick and absolutely delicious! The burgers is the best. Will definitely visit this spot again...

From the time we booked at the restaurant to ordering our meal, the service was extremely friendly and efficient. We were given a table with a lovely view and a fire kept us nice and warm on a cold day. Wide choice of food and very well priced. Our table ordered hake, calamari and burgers- all delicious. Would definitely go again if in the area.

Amazing view and friendly staff. Delicious prawns, my husband had the Peri peri chicken livers. And yesterday I had the mussels. This restaurant is underrated. It is worth the visit on your trip to George.

This must be the most incredible gem hidden in the enclave of Harold’s Bay... the view is breathtaking... the ambiance is delightful.., the staff superb... and the food awesome

We had the chicken livers which were served with a sour dough bread that reminded me of grandmas baking.,, the livers were so tender and packed with flavor... their chef certainly knows how to combine spices... fantastic.... the calamari melted with every bite... don’t overlook the burgers on price... nothing comes close to the feast you will experience..., dynamic company on another culinary adventure..,

VIEWS and fooooood 😻 Dutton’s Cove - hidden gem on the coast with the prettiest ocean views. I ordered a burger that had figs, blue cheese and biltong shavings - delicious complimentary flavours! They had run out of buns but our waiter made a plan which I really appreciated. The portions were also very generous. The ambience was great with jazz music playing in the background. Fit for a Sunday afternoon.

Beautifully situated with a spectacular ocean view. Incredible succulent seafood. Calamari, Prawns and Mussels cooked to perfection. Excellent service from Christo, all staff polite, friendly with sense of humor. Would definitely recommend.

This spot has an amazing view of Heralds Bay. The calamari is tender and yummy, fish and ribs also great. Waiters are sharp, we come here every December!

Lovely spot with a spectacular view of Herold's bay. The portions are big so come hungry! We had the chicken schnitzel and calamari mains. The waiter unfortunately did not ask me what sauce and choice of starch I preferred, but the chicken schnitzel was very tender and came with a lovely, smokey cheese sauce. I will definitely be back!

We had the deep fried feta and ribs & prawns combo. Really enjoyed the food and felt quality above average. The service amazing and our waitress very friendly. Enjoyed the experience and definitely recommend to anyone looking for good food, good service with a great view

First time I've ever rated 1... tried forcing myself to rate you 1.5 but it wont do you any justice. Wave upon wave of disasterous experiences at this place. Waited 2 HOURS to get our food. Honestly 2 hours. Put our order in at 1 and had to wait till 3 only to receive the wrong order. Its a shame that a place with such a nice view has such horrific service. The worst thing was probably the waiters trying to avoid complaining customers because they were all out of excuses. What a joke.

On arriving at Dutton's Cove my first impression was that it looked nothing like the photographs on Zomato and was actually quite dingy and dirty but since first impressions are often wrong we still continued and asked for a table. We were taken upstairs where our table was quickly wiped down and we were seated. The view is breathtaking and is the only reason Dutton's Cove is receiving 1.5 from me.
Our waiter was very quick to take our orders and seemed friendly enough. Dutton's Cove has a few different craft beers that we were excited to try out. The Newlands Mountain Weiss was our favourite.
We ordered the prawns; ribs; calamari; and halloumi and vegetables. The first three dishes mentioned were okay but definitely not worth their hefty price. The halloumi and vegetables were appalling. I received two minuscule squares of cold, fried halloumi when the menu stated it would be grilled; the stir-fried vegetables were just chunks of cold, oily vegetables; the lettuce was dirty and full of grit; and when I told the waiter I was unhappy with my meal and if I could see the chef all I got was lip and I was told that's how they make it. Not once did he apologize or take my complaints seriously.
When we left we were all disappointed with how less than average our food was even though the bill came to over R1000-00 and how rude our waiter had been.
We definitely will not be returning and will be advising our friends to also give Dutton's Cove a miss. It's simply not worth it.

My fiance and I stopped off here for breakfast and it was a win. Ordered the excellent value for money Gatsby, and had some tea. The service was friendly but the biggest win was the beautiful view and sea breeze. A lovely spot for a meal

Really think this restaurant deserves better feedback. We are here before the massive December rush but the service and food here has been great! Recommend the Golfer's Platter for sure!

Great sea view and that was the only good thing about this restaurant. Upon our arrival we told the waiter we needed to go catch our flight and he said our order would be ready in 10 minutes. We ended up waiting for 30 minutes and had to request take aways. The surf 'n turf was charred and the fish was dry. No thanks.

The food is okay. It's quite pricey and all it has going for it is the view over Heroldbaai. The waiter was run off his feet serving both upstairs and downstairs and the cheesecake had too much gelatine in it.

Dutton's Cove has the most amazing view! The food is nice enough but nothing too exciting. Service is friendly and we had a nice lunch here :)

The food is good, but the service is not great. Investment in waiter training required. Ordered items never arrived. Reception was less than warm.

Stunning view and atmosphere. The view was a sight for sore eyes. Service was slow though and food a bit average. The staff were very friendly organized and helpful though, food just took very long to come out and was not mind blowing just average.

Friendly service. Beautiful location. Great view from the balcony for lunch. The servings are quite large. The bisque for the mussels was good but the mussels were powdery and rubbery. Calamari is nice but the oil wasn't quite hot enough so it has come out with a flour taste and a bit oily. We visited during the off season and it might be a bit difficult to have fresh seafood during this time. I think it would be better during peak season.
Edit: we both felt sick after the oily calamari

Lovely views and on a sunny day stunning outside...being winter the fire inside also cozy. Found service a bit slow. Ribs were tender, Calamari was crispy and fresh. Will visit again.

The view is really the attraction here. We had a lovely day out. Fabulous introduction to Hartenberg's Alchemy and okay calamari and prawn meals. Service was good but our waiter failed to inform us of the specials. The kitchen was a disaster running on over an hour delay preparing very simple food. Perhaps the menu is too large for them.

Great location very relaxed with good service. Hake and calamari was well cookwd and tasty. Good wine list with widw variety. Well worth a visit

Dutton's cove has an awesome view of Heroldsbay. Nice ambience. The food is ok, not great. I tried the Calamari which was so-so, and the ribs, which was ok. I do not like the cheap part of the ribs with the white cartilage, and lots of fat. From TripAdvisor I gathered that their ribs should be good. I was not really impressed. Fealt the meal was pricey for what we received. The Mrs had the prawns - garlic swamped. Good attentive service, maybe the chef had the night off. :-)

How I Rate an establishment :
1: Terrible, will never return will never recommend.
2: Ok, not worth special effort, I can make the food better at home...
3: Satisfied, restaurant offer good service and satisfactory food, the money paid is in line with quality of food received.
4: A gem, worth visiting for a treat or special occations and referring friends.
5: The very rare and best - fine dining, incredible food, presentation, and service. Honestly no more than 6 such places in South Africa !
