Review Bayleaf Cafe - George

Catherine Williams
I finally grabbed the opportunity to visit Bayleaf Cafè, and wow, I'm glad I did!! From the moment of walking in, we were greeted with a welcoming smile (By the owner I think). I thought we would hear the cars from the busy road, but we seemed to have stepped into a blissful, tranquil haven, away from the hustle and bustle. Loved the decor, old worldy / chabby-chic / eclectic. Anyway...moving on. The staff were absolutely lovely, and the food....WOW!!! divine! Simple but perfect. I Had the French flapjacks, with Camebert cheese, creme fraiche, bacon, preserved figs, and a balsamic reduction. Each bite was heavenly. (And could definitely tell the flapjacks are homemade, fluffy and light). Highly recommend. (And on a side note, it would really be a stunning venue for small gatherings, or an intimate wedding. Hopefully one day I can plan my wedding there)

We ordered a variety of vegan and non vegan dishes to be shared and they didn't disappoint! Generous portions, GREAT flavour and friendly on top of that. Thoughtful for adding sauces separately. No spillage. Only one thing..the choc brownie was ultra sweet, so beware 😉 one bite was sufficient.

What an AMAZING place! Thank you to Hugo and the team at Bayleaf Café for the most amazing bridal shower. The tables were sooo beautiful and the food was just absolutely delicious and more-some. I was so stressed arranging all of this from Cape Town, but Hugo was so reassuring. 100/10 for your customer service and attentiveness. Everyone had a wonderful time.

We had a spontaneous brunch at the Bayleaf Café and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was incredible, slipping into my top brunch spot in George. I can imagine their other meals must be just as delicious and well-presented. The Bayleaf tree in the garden courtyard gives the restaurant a lovely sentimental touch. My Eggs Benedict was one of the best that I have had in years. I will definitely visit again.

The vegan and vegetarian food here is simply amazing! I have not had better vegetarian food anywhere in George. The food was fresh, not oily, not salty, healthy but full of flavour and taste. Absolutely wonderful.

Quality food, awesome ambiance, and service with a warm welcome. Staff friendly and attentive. Cheff Quinton very graciously prepared a splendid vegan and vegetarian meal for us even though there aren't any vegan option on the menu. It was The best lunch in George. I definitely recommend it.

What an absolute delight. The setting is beautiful (even on a cloudy day), the service is outstanding - warm, friendly and sincere, from the waitress who greeted us at the door to the barista who greeted us on our way out. The food is delicious - One of the few places in the area that serves healthy, thoughtfully crafted vegetarian / vegan friendly options (beyond a toasted cheese and tomato or a margherita pizza ;) Will definitely be back.

One of those unique places hidden in George! Don't be deterred by the outside look. Behind the unsophisticated entrance you find a unique experience. Plenty of indoor tables and the outdoor area has even more. Relax in the garden under the shade of the tree's. We had cupachinos with French Flapjacks. Visit them you will enjoy the meals and drinks on offer. Not your ordinary cafe that is for sure.

The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meals. Highly recommend! We will definitely visit a lot more!

One of the best venues for breakfast I have been to and most definately the best in the George area. Exceptionally prepared and well presented food. Excellent service.

My experience at Bayleaf Cafe was awesome...friendly/helpful staff, breakfast was lovely. They were very busy at that time of the day already, which to me says a lot. Noticed that people wait outside before opening time, to get in.

Awesome little spot in George.
Our flight was delayed so ventured in and were super happy with the Bayleaf, the salmon cream cheese bagel was amazing - staff & chef were warm and helpful too.

Amazing food, amazing personal service and great vegan options (which as I am vegan is very important). Please do not go to the Bay Leaf if you are in a hurry. This is a place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and the food of course :). Have visited many times now we are living in George and it is our favourite place for lunch.

Looked for the closest place for breakfast and actually found the best place.
Had a simple one with your standard bacon, egg and some toast really enjoyed it.
JoJo got the MJ omelet and trust me it was so good we will be coming here for another omelet when we are around George in the future.
Service was great the restaurant is a converted house and looks great with old wooden floors and a pretty outside area.
All and all they over delivered as far as I was expecting (prices are good as well)
Had a bran muffin as it sounded good on the menu and again it was delicious.
Beautiful old house converted into this lovely cafe. The food was good, unfortunately we didn't get to try any of their famous cakes but definitely next time. The only downside was the food did take a really long time for two sandwiches and a salad.

Fantastic Burger, Moroccan salad and Chicken Tikka. The quality of the ingredients is immediately apparent. Recommendation to anyone in George looking for a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

My favorite. Enough said. Beautifully presented, different items, well priced. Perfect for lunch. Service first class and the 'right' ambiance.

We joined The Bayleaf Cafe for lunch and enjoyed the Potted Beef & Red Wine Pie and the Moroccan Salad. The food was excitingly flavoured and very wholesome. Tranquil setting, relaxing music with friendly staff. The gardens are beautifully lush and one would not want to leave...
*Ideal for Kitchen Teas and Stork

A very cute spot for lunch. Menu is a little over priced for me, but the food tasted great and looked very appetizing. Loved the cozy feel they created in an old house, and the service was very friendly.

This little gem is absolutely gorgeously decorated with the friendliest staff. I popped in during a business trip, unfortunately it was in the late afternoon and the kitchen had closed. I decided to have coffee and scones anyway but the manager managed to organise a delicious feta, ham and mushroom quiche with salad. It was a fantastic light meal. They get 5 stars for friendliness and for making a plan depite the kitchen being closed.

A gorgeous house that has been converted into a cosy french style country restaurant with beautiful outdoor seating.

It's very relaxing sitting outside in the garden and you may be lucky to spot a chameleon or 2.

Service is very friendly and unobtrusive.

The bacon and banana flapjacks with maple syrup are the perfect start to the day if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.

Recommended by the local BMW dealership while we waited for our car repairs. An absolutely pleasurable dining experience. Menu is well crafted, food is delicious and staff are very attentive. Highly recommend. I had the breakfast tramazinni, Mrs had the sweet corn fritters topped with scrambled egg.
Laura Versfeld
This beautiful French/country cafe is nestled just off the main road running through George. Staff are always friendly, meals and ingredients well thought out and portions are just perfect. Make sure you try the corn fritter for breakfast/brunch!
