Thank you for such great hospitality.
Can’t wait to visit again!
Beautiful mountain views leading up to the Country kitchen, take a wrong turn to hotel and you see a helicopter parked, probably for Richard's direct access!
You can sit inside or enjoy the sunshine and views outside. A number of tasting options, we opted for the gourmet tasting which paired 3 wines with 3 tapas. You can also opt to do wine only and order from their menu. All 3 tapas were delicious, a smoked snoek with tortilla chips for the sauvignon blanc, fried crumbed goats cheese with leaks for the chardonnay and gorgonzola chorizo tortilla stack for the syrah. All delicious. Lovely friendly service.
Feel an appatite for wine??
This is the best place to visit
It has amazing big wine fields and their hospitality is up to the mark.
I tasted 4 type of wines and my love for red wine grew.
We also tasted their indian style butter chicken which was very close to that we get in india.
Loved the place
So we went here as part of Wine Tram, Mont Rochelle was one of the stops.
And this was our Lunch Time, so instead of wine tasting, we opted for Food, after been to 4 wineries.
And with the beautiful weather, we decided to have Indian Dishes in the middle of beautiful Wineyards.
So we ordered for Butter Chicken, so unexpected from them. And they prepared it really nicely. They served it with Rice and Bread. And it was great value for money, as Franschoek is famous for its Celebrity Restaurants with wine Pairings.
Food was ok! Unfortunately we had to set up the picnic ourselves (which wasn’t the impression given on their website) and there wasn’t really anything that stood out in the picnic basket... The wraps and desert are probably the best thing about the food. However, the grounds were stunning and made up for this! I would strongly recommend walking to the vineyard/restaurant if you are staying in town! The views are incredible!
Perfectly sunny day for a picnic at the Country Kitchen . We celebrated a special man's birthday and they were so accommodating with various types of requests per basket . They provided vegan and vegetarian baskets with the widest variety of treats and food. Absolutely delighted and the yummiest brownies ever baked !
We visited Mont Rochelle yesterday while on the Wine Tram and I was pleasantly surprised. I am absolutely inlove with the zucchini fries and the potato skins. They were so flavourful and enough to share between two people. We also had a great host!
We selected Mont Rochelle as had read that it is very beautiful. Also, the fact that it is owned by Richard Branson made it a must visit. One has to say that this is one has the most pretty views. The wines were good but the views and the ambience actually made everything irrelevant.
(NOTE: This review pertains to MIKO, which is somehow not on Zomato, but deserves a review).
Miko's outstanding feature is undoubtedly the setting, with an incredible view over Franschoek. For that reason alone, they're worth a lunchtime visit. Their food was not as punchy as I prefer, but pretty good - particularly the passion fruit tart. They're a level below some of the finer Cape restaurants for me, but a very pleasant experience. I wouldn't rush back, but I'd recommend a visit if in Franschoek.
A group of us went on the Franschhoek wine tram and along the route we booked lunch at The Country Kitchen- Mount Rochelle. It is a little pricey but the food was delicious and the service great. Everyone enjoyed their main courses but I do recommend to leave a little space for their decadent desserts and homemade ice-creams. The cheese and charcuterie platters also look fantastic paired with wine tasting. The decor has sculptural features made from wine corks which really enhances the ambiance and complements the wine estate location. It is a beautiful estate and The Country Kitchen has delicious and local cuisine - overall a lovely experience.
✅ starter of confit duck was delicious
✅ mains for Restaurant week 2016 and the Karoo chops was tasty and extremely well prepared
❤️️setting is wonderful with a view of the mountain
❤️ service is exact and quick
❤️free wifi but it was not working when we visited
⚠️ kids burger was burnt on the roll and the patty was charred beyond edible
We had an amazing afternoon at the Country Kitchen while on a recent trip to Franschoek😊 We decided to jump off the wine tram and do a quick wine tasting and the grab some lunch 🍷 The view was simply breathtaking and our experience was further enhanced by friendly service and wonderful food👍🏻
Best experience ever. Great food, wonderful staff, excellent views. Outstanding. Came for lunch but spent the whole afternoon. Food wonderfully integrated to local culture and producers. Staff great ambassadors for warmth of South Africa's people. We had Karoo Lamb, Rib eye and Linefish for mains. All of it excellent. Pity Richard Branson seldom visits - he is missing out on his own jewel.
We absolutely LOVE Mont Rochelle! It's definitely one of our top places to visit while in Franschhoek. We find the staff to be friendly and quick.
We ordered a range of nibbles to eat while we did our wine tasting. I really enjoyed the potato skins, they were very tasty. Definitely worth a visit in the future.
Set on the absolutely beautiful Mont Rochelle Wine Estate, the Country Kitchen is absolutely outstanding, the height of sophisticated yet casual dining, and warmth and hospitality.
We were graciously welcomed by the manageress of the restaurant, who showed us to our table on the outside patio, and introduced our waitron. On finding out that it was my birthday the following day, she quickly brought over a glass of sparkling wine... what a start!
My hubby had the catch of the day, which he said was delicious, and I opted for the two salads and a main option from the deli menu - butternut with basil pesto and shaved parmesan, a cous cous salad, and pork belly for the main. All of it was just superb.
I finished my meal off with a cappuccino, and a last gaze over the Franschhoek hills. The Country Kitchen needs to be on your bucket list, if you haven't been there already!
Beautiful setting, stunning views, great vibe, superb service. Everything was perfect here, the food was absolutely amazing, top class. Easily catered to big groups, there were 14 of us. The views were unbelievable and the service was top notch. Well done team.
I guess it is one of the best vineyard in SA, the ambience is too good to be true...the wines, just perfect! Staff, always ready to assist you with anything...even in taking pictures😄 will definately go back next year!
We had the picnic option from the restaurant...we choose the Miko basket offering which had a bit of everything...it was quite a bit & quite filling...the price was R680 for 2...this does not include any drinks so we had to buy our own water & drinks...which I think is not fare as the price is quite a bit then at least add a bottle of something like other wine estates...the food itself was ok... combination of fish, poultry, pork & beef dishes...there was also cheese, potatoes bake salad & pudding which was actually good...we had to order & prepay for the picnic basket...the views & setting are stunning...initially we were pointed to the area in front but I asked & the lady mentioned the lawns at the manor...but we we'nt told about the area at the lake as well for picnicing...would definitely recommend the area at the manor or better the area at the lake...you get the food basket & a blanket...
We chose this stop while on the local wine Tram. Great views and very clean grounds. It is owned by Sir Richard Branson. I'm sure this affects the quality of the products and services. The staff were very friendly and knew the wines we tasted.
We had lunch at this restaurant while exploring Franschoek on the tram's blue line. Although we were a big party and had not made a booking we were accommodated. The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious, and our server was very knowledgeable about the perfect wine pairings for each of our dishes. I would recommend booking in advance just in case you're not as lucky as we were in terms of space at the restaurant. All in all, it was a great experience.
Great good. Amazing service with beautiful views of Franschhoek. Lovely wine to compliment the food!
Great wine tasting. Great experience. The entire staff team was beyond knowledge and kind. One of our fav spot in the region. Highly recommend their tasting + food also on point!
Surprisingly family friendly place. Great playground and nice green space below the dining area for kids to run around. The general manager’s children’s even joined our kids to run around and play for a while which was a fun experience for them.
Food and service were great. Setting was spectacular as well. It was quiet on the weeknight we went. Recommend for dinner (or tasting) if in the area.
Loved it here! Beautiful setting, with a nice playground for the kids. Service was great, as they offered to serve us at the table next to the playground.
Beautiful gardens, and nice food.
Great wine pairing experience and food is amazing
Food was good, but note that the small plates are really small.Wines are also good if a little pricey. However, the views are unreal
The interior decoration here is something that women should like. Emotional props and white-collar wall decoration are calm. The carefully crafted decorations are also impressive. We tested the wine, and someone else bought the gift boxed wine.
We stopped at Mont Rochelle on the Wine Tram (blue line). We enjoyed their "Gourmet Tasting", 3 wines with 3 appetizer style small plates. Excellent! Wonderful setting, friendly service, delicious food and good wine.

We had an amazing reception from Simone who immediately made us feel welcome, she constantly checked on us to made we were well looked after. Douglas, our waiter was attentive and he made briljant suggestions when it came to ordering our food. Overall a pleasant experience!
Hands down the best overall wine tasting on our trip so far, which was made even better with the fantastic flavors of the amazing food on the garden grazer's platter!
The food and service was great. The views over Franschhoek is beautiful. If you want to have good food but not eat in town, this is a great option.
