Review Ocean Basket Dainfern - Fourways

Absolutely one of the nicest OB I have been to. This seems to be a new theme in the franchise with its fresh decor and modern menu. It has updated the menu and added more variety of combo's. The atmosphere of the restaurant Is relaxing and invites a very Mediterranean vibe. One can only feel the ocean breeze and the steps of social beings around as you take in the flavours that dance around in your mouth. This is well worth the trip and effort to make. The service never disappoints and the food is always delicious.

All I can say is yummmmmmmy! 😋 I went there on a Saturday night at around 9pm to feed my craving. On Google they are the only Ocean Basket in my area to open up so late on a Saturday other than the one in Melrose. So I drove over and with only 30mins to spare, they managed to make me a platter for one I’ll never forget. Their service was exceptional! They treated me like they had all the time in the world to serve me even though they had a few minutes left til closing time. None of that ‘get out of here the kitchen is about to close’ stuff. They are located just behind 011 and across Annica’s Patisserie. I didn’t even know there was an Ocean Basket there until my craving struck. Thanks Google!

Great location, especially on a nice day. I would suggest you ask to be seated outside.

Can never go wrong with sea food 😜😜😜

We had a platter for two at 285zar October 2017. Food was good and service as well. Our little one enjoyed running outside and playing with other kids.

Great restaurant, especially with new manager from Potties. What a difference! Keep it up. Food served in under 10min, everything is perfect 👍🏼😎

Food was good. Service was very good. All in all a pleasant experience although one must bear in mind that a franchise is a franchise.

It's an Ocean Basket so the food is standard. But the service is always great. Pushed it above the rest. 👍

I mean, the restaurant is decorated as if it is in Dainfern; not your ordinary Basket of the Ocean. Pair that with proper service and you'll know this place - I would recommend.

I hate giving bad reviews but eating cold seafood isn't something that one can accept. Leonard tried his best to cheer us up but the food was cold. The food was tasty and I can't fault you on that. I would consider coming back, even if it will only be to sit and see how much pride Leonard takes in his work.

Service we received from our waitress was terrible. Sam the manager was very helpful and apologized for the poor service. The waiters and waitresses need to receive better training. Dont think I will be back.

The food is what can be expected, pretty decent with what we were looking for, but the place fell short on the service... we waited over an hour to get our food in a half empty restaurant. Shouldn’t take this long for food to arrive. We hope the kitchen speeds up a bit

We went to Dainfern for the festival that was not much of a festival and decided to go for sushi here.<br/>We had a variety of salmon sushi. It was fresh and really good.<br/>The food took forever to arrive and the waiters chopped and changed every time they came to our table and seemed to be preoccupied when you gave them food or drinks orders

Fresh well cooked seafood almost as good as the coast. Best Ocean basket by far and in jhb. The decor is better than you typical ocean basket. Very quiet thought could do with a bit more of a vibe.

Last week, I was pleasantly surprised by the healthy and affordable meal that I had at this upmarket OB so I thought I would share both my photos and experience.. I am a firm fan of a fine dining meal out, but Ocean Basket has a casual appeal that is evident in it being voted "South Africa's favorite chain of seafood restaurants". <br/><br/>Interiors:<br/>This OB has one of the most modern and upmarket interiors that I have seen in a long time and I loved the hanging fishing baskets, and comfortable booths. <br/><br/>Food:<br/>I started with fresh oysters (at only R18 each) with a healthy dash of green Tabasco and black pepper. These Namibian oysters were delicious! <br/>Artemis Meze Platter: battered mussels, firecracker squid, zucchini fritters, olives, feta, tarama, hummus, cucumber, tomato. A crunchy, healthier take on the normal comfort food that I like in Winter but it was well-presented! And last but not least..<br/>Smoked Snoek soup which arrived VERY yellow from the cumin that had been added to it but was tasty, creamy and exactly what my cold self was craving! <br/><br/>I am also pleased to see that Ocean Basket care about their impact on the environment, the sea and as such, are registered with SASSI (Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative) to protect our oceans. <br/><br/>Service:<br/>My service from start to finish wasn't altogether amazing, but I did enjoy the meal here and the restaurant staff levels had been affected severely on my visit by the striking happening on that day. <br/><br/>*Recommendation: For an affordable, family outing - you cannot go wrong with this little seafood chain in Dainfern. <br/><br/>For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

Have returned for a third time to try and "like" this establishment but will now quit! Today we ordered a very simple meal - 2 drinks and 2 plates of food. The waiter somehow managed to get 3 of 4 requests wrong!!! Spoke to a waitress ( very helpful) who could only apologize.

Went for dinner on valentines eve with a friend just to have a quick bite. Even though the restaurant never filled up through out the evening we where met at the entrance with a did you book cause we busy attitude from the manager. The waitress was very friendly and did a great job serving our table. The fish and calamari combo was a bit on the bland side and not what I am used to getting at OB. It rated on par with the managers attitude

What an experience. From the moment I sat down as a solitary diner I was treated with respect and courtesy. The food was good, the service was even better and the ambience was perfect. Will definitely be back. Well done. It's never ideal to go out as a single diner, but you sure made my experience memorable.

Needs lessons from the one in Fourways Mall and an urgent IV infusion of lustre into the Manager.<br/>We were one of only  3 tables of patrons in the entire restaurant this Saturday. <br/>Only 2 pieces of bread - because there are 2 of us. Very generous indeed.  I asked if I could perhaps get my side of vegetables split into a half portion of veggies and half rice.  (they do this quite easily at Fourways OB).  No, says the waiter - he will have to charge me extra for doing that. OOOOKAY - no worries. We will have it as it is.<br/><br/>As we ate waiters literally grabbed plates if you showed the slightest lapse in interest  - no asking if they may take it. You literally have to be ready to push the plate down to the table and say you are still busy. A real problem if you order a lot of tapas like accoutrements to all come at once and then have to fend off the waiters trying to grab the plates before you are done. Exhausting work this.<br/><br/>The cherry on top was my husband asking if they make Greek coffee. To which the waiter responds that they do but asks if  we will take milk with it. We both looked at each other perplexed. In retrospect we should have seen the problem coming. No, we said - no milk. <br/>A short while later coffee arrives in a tea-cup. To which we  ask if he is sure this is Greek coffee. He says he's not sure if it is actual RICOFFY, but it is coffee. We say we asked for GREEK coffee. He says he will ask the manager. The manager standing behind us the whole time as this absurd scene unfolds - waives him off with vague disinterest that there is no Greek coffee. The waiter returns, looks at the filter coffee we didn't ask for and presumes we will have it. We did ... because you just feel bad for staff that have not been trained adequately by a malaised manager who is twiddling his thumbs arbing about in  a near-empty restaurant but doesn't have time to come over and apologise for the mistake.

Took my kids for dinner today at Ocean Basket - The Dainfern one is lovely and fresh we absolutely loved it .<br/>My son absolutely loves Ocean Basket as I was writing this review I asked him what he thought about his meal today and here it goes " OMG I love the new ocean basket food is very good just like the appearance I think best fish 🐟 shop you can get go there when you have the chance" <br/><br/>We sure will be back 😅😅😍👌🏻

Absolutely love the new decor which is more modern. I enjoyed a battered hake that was cooked to perfection along with stir-fry vege that was very tasty! Great service & overall great time. Will be back!

I am definitely loving the new look ocean basket, its fresh and floaty with nice cane textures. Popped in for lunch, being the quite time now it joburg, our food was well prepared and delicious. Love the stir fry veg and that signature lemon butter sauce. We tried the litre cocktails and requested a remake as it seemed to lack alcohol which was gladly replaced. I have to date always been a take away option at this branch but I am willing to be there more often.

This Ocean Basket is by far our favorite and we visit it atleast once a week for a good meal after a long gym session, top quality food and service/ the waiters are always friendly and the management on top form

We decided to try the new rustic look Ocean Basket at Dainfern shopping and the experience was very pleasant, apparently it is the only Ocean Basket at the moment with the new look and feel. As Ocean Baskets go the food was very good as was the service snd a very attentive Manager. Our only criticism was the lemon butter sauce that wad mostly butter. We will certainly continue to support them from time to time and would encourage whoever reads this review to give them a try.
