I am in awe of this place!😊 We were greeted by Phillimon with such a friendly gesture and attitude😊 He was our waiter for the afternoon and the service he delivered was absolutely incredible! Everything about our visit was incredible. The food, drinks and vibe was amazing☺️ We will definitely be back! Well done Ocean Basket Montecasino!

Great place overlooking the open area outside. We visited in winter so sat inside but can see us sitting outside during the summer months. The food was fresh and well prepared, portions are always generous.

Our waitress was Patience, on the 13th of October 2023, and her service was impeccable! She was super friendly, attentive and patient. She made our night an enjoyable one…surprising my son with a birthday ice cream 😃. Five stars service for sure!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Always nice to be at Ocean Basket. I love the calamari and prawns in lemon butter sauce, cannot find them similar anywhere abroad. Food quality vary depending on the chef of the day, been here twice in 4 days and one time was perfect, another time it was way too salty

Value for money, good food and great atmosphere. Staff polite and very helpful. OB has moved from the fast food section to the outside section by the theatre which you could now classify as a restaurant and not associate it with a fast food outlet.

Great service from the staff with good options of seating areas from the top deck, ground floor to the balcony facing the Piaza an open-air square presided over by our landmark bell tower, was designed to be a place for our guests to enjoy Gauteng’s sunny climate.

Went out with the family to Ocean Basket and immediately recieved great service and delicious food. We had an incredible waitress named Pamela, who is the reason why my family and I will be back very soon. Pamela is hard working and knows how to make a good impression with her funny jokes and honest personality. Well done Pamela, you've received the liking of a very fussy family. We will see you soon!

Food was just bad. The lemon butter sauce was not good. Ordered Kingklip which was no better than my shoe sole. Baklava Cheescake was the worst I have eaten, maybe the worst on planrt earth. Considering the venue and the competition around, this place has some serious needs work.

My fiancé and I went to OB Montecasino late afternoon for an early dinner yesterday. We haven’t been to an OB in a while and I must say from the last time we were there till yesterday there’s been a drop in the quality of the food. They serve those warm rolls in a basket, and the last few times I had been to OB, the basket was always full with decent sized rolls. Didn’t matter if you’re a family table or just a table for two. Yesterday we got served these miniature rolls. And they only gave us three. We ordered the firecracker shrimp for a starter to share and got these 3 sad looking pieces in a pan. I wasn’t happy with my drink, i ordered a cocktail and it tasted like juice. Overall the waiter was really good, we sat in a nice spot outside. They accommodated us well. But I feel OB has become really stingy and I could rather cook seafood that’s worth spending at home. Need to get OB back to the quality it once was. Hoping when we try a different OB, that we will not be disappointed!

Had a meze platter to share. Really tasty platter and the batter was still nice and crspy. Good variety of things on the platter . The zucchini and squid heads was definitely a winner. Service was good.

Service was average. Food standards were met. The restaurant was buzzing due to the casino and entertainment at the Casino. Ocean Basket always serves affordable tasty quality seafood

In a nice location for the restaurant especially when it's nice outside. The food is delicious just wish you wouldn't have to wait long for the food to come. But otherwise nice.

What a disaster!!!!!!  <br/><br/>Ocean Basket should have stayed in the food court of Montecasino.  They were great then.<br/>On 8 June I decided to lunch at the newly positioned Ocean Basket on the plaza.  I ordered the Salmon Soup - they brought me 2 yummy-looking complimentary bread buns.  I COULDN'T touch it!  It burnt my fingers!!!!!!!!!  So hot!<br/>So I stuck my arm in the air, apparently it was the lady manageress who came to my table.  I told her these buns are scalding hot!  I cannot eat it.  She took it away.<br/>My waitress came and brought me a basket with other buns - THEY WERE STONE COLD!<br/>I mean -  IS IT ROCKET SCIENCE?  How pathetic is your kitchen and the staff that you cannot figure out how long these buns should be in the microwave - so that they are just the right temperature!<br/>I stood up to go ... the manageress came out and pleaded for me to give them another chance ...<br/>They've already had TWO CHANCES - and if they cannot even get the temperature right on the complimentary buns - HOW BAD will they prepare the rest of the menu????????

We were slightly dissapointed and underwhelmed by this branch. Even though the food was ok, the portions and qaulity was not near what we are used to at the branch we frequent. Service was sub-par as well. Will rather opt for one of the many other restaurants Monte offers

Last minute decision after a little drinking @ 360 bar - best ever sea food I’ve had in a while!😍 I got the platter for one, everything was spectacular, freshly made, delicious flavors and my ultimate compliment goes to the waitron and the incredible service we received and on top of that we were seated outside on the patio with an amazing view of the fountains and lights. <br/><br/>I’m dying to go back! Thanks for the awesome food and service 💃🏽❤️

Amazing place. Great food. Even better atmosphere now that they are outside. Just wish the casino would put a notice letting people know where they have moved to.

Not the best OB around... the sushi seemed to be pre made and refrigerated... oh and the soy sauce seemed to be watered down, both seem odd for a restaurant ... was too caught up in conversation to bother complaining... my man had a platter and enjoyed every bite... so many eateries in one venue you would expect brilliant service from each of them competing for clients...

Horrible service, slow, waiters spend more time & effort chatting than taking orders , food looked horrendous, in a table beside me , client did not look impressed, after 45min wait to get a waiter to come over we decided to pick up & walk away. We were craving fish last night for dinner. The only one near us that would be open til late was the Montecasino one. Drinks came in good time but no bread was served for the table until we asked for me. However, our dinner arrived long before the bread. My sister and I ordered fish only, one grilled an one fried. Those got to our table in about 5 minutes which surprised us, we questioned whether it was for another table but the server was adamant it was ours. 10 minutes after our food arrived, bread for the table was served but the bread was fridge cold. The garlic, chilli and mayo was served with no spoons. Even though I asked for sushi as a starter it came to me long after my main was done and had been asking for it. The servers/waiters were not friendly at all and it felt like we were bothering them with our presence and business. We had planned to have dessert but the attitude put us off. What they were really quick with was our bill. On a separate note, this OB had signage about a discount if you were a Montecasino rewards member, our server told us the card reader for that was broken and she couldn't process it. That is a matter I'm taking up with Montecasino. Honestly, we've had better service and fish at the Spur in Montecasino, we'll be going there from now on.

I must applaud the kind service we received . <br/>The sushi was enjoyable and we had a very polite server. <br/>The ambience was very relaxed and quiet.

Bear in mind we have a couple of branches in fourways, standards didnt compare. Food was average and interestingly enough after we pointed out the differences our prawn curry was redone and requests was adhered to i.e. extra lemon butter, half chips, half rice, prawn platter slipt into half cajun and normal. Place is usually busy but just lacks that personal touch of other branches and also not keeping with the revamp look and feel.

Sushi was tasteless and had small pieces of i don't know what inside. Horrible place for sushi ,ocean basket should take it off the menu. Too many bad sushi experiences at ocean basket. This was the trial.<br/>Waiters were friendly,

Horrible experience! Grilled calamari was soooo oily. The Zeus meze platter picture on the menu is so deceiving. The quantity on the pic is definitely not what you get served. You see more....but get less. Food was cold. Service was poor.

Went in for lunch and I was impressed..the food come super quick and was delicious..i had a starter portion of Cajun calamari and it was perfectly seasoned..the complimentary bread was cold would have preferred it warm..also our waitress was over zealous to clear things away super quick..ghe lemon butter sauce was delish..

Not even sure why we went to Ocean Basket as we have had bad service at the Monte Branch before. Service was slow despite informing our waitress that we needed to get to a show. Ordered the combo Prawns and Fish. The prawns were good but the fish was so overcooked. How does a fish place get this so wrong? Had 2 bites of the fish and left the rest.

In a rush to go to The Great Moscow Circus on Friday, and decided it would a good idea to grab a bite to eat at Ocean Basket before the show. I ordered the prawn and mussel combo, with half chips and rice, and extra garlic sauce. The prawns and mussels were fresh and delicious, but overall the dish lacked a little seasoning. The service on the other hand wasn’t the greatest, especially after telling the waitress we were in a hurry.

Quite a usual/average general Ocean Basket experience. Food was goodish - tasty but nothing to really write home about - ordered the platter and the fish was the star of the plate-so yummy... The calamari and prawns tasted alright :) The service, however, was really good. Will be back.

Thank you Ocean Basket for singing happy birthday to me! I was brought a chocolate volcano (with sparklers), and my goodness was it delicious. All meals were generally good, one plate unfortunately had chips that were under cooked, but, over all, very good meals and vibe. The desserts are definitely worth a try, also had the cheesecake and baklava-just awesome. Our waiter was great and served us well. Love. Jambo.

If u can't keep the quality of food good until midnight why stay open and give people horrible food!!<br/>We ordered a starter salad and found an insect half way through, we waited for our mains which was very quick I must say but disappointing since they couldn't grill my food in peri peri(which all the other ocean baskets do for me) so I told him to make it Cajun and add lemon butter, they brought the lemon butter on the side and charged extra for it, they served my platter with angelfish, yes us is a tough fish but it shouldn't be as hard as chicken!<br/>In my wife's prawn platter they did not devein her prawns properly so there was still poop strings in them(totally terrible!!) she got upset and didn't eat at all after that!<br/>U guys need to jack up!!!

This is definitely of the best ocean baskets I have been to. The food is always good. Great place for a quick seafood lunch - love the rock shrimp tempura.

Definitely won't be visiting again... Floors were filthy, food was very average, asked for our king klip fillet to be done a certain way, only to be told the kitchen does it one way, pathetic portions of fish and salad, a Greek salad with a cucumber overload and one olive, really?? Seems the prices keep increasing and the portions keep decreasing... No value for money. However our waiter was very welcoming and his service was on point.

I have avoided reviewing this particular ocean basket for a while now, to keep giving them a chance to prove me  wrong, but sadly after 3 visits in the last few month i can say i have only been disappointed time after time! It should be a lovely place, because the restaurant in nice and big and spacious, but sadly, we have found it to not be super clean with our last experience being that someone had stuck a used plaster to the wall and it had never been removed. The food has been below the normal standard or the other ocean baskets we often go to, the sushi portions where significantly smaller and all the avo had gone brown by the time it was served to us, the chips we had with our fish and chips were so dry you couldn't eat them. So even though the waiters are friendly and the food arrives quickly each time, the food qualify has definitely let this branch down time and time.

They always seem to be out of stock of calamari heads, which my kids love. Was there over the weekend and the prince prawns should actually be called pauper prawns as they hardly had any meat on them. When the kids wanted crayons, 3 stubs were brought. They managed to get a 2 rating for the tasty calamari and stir fry veg.

I cannot say that Ocean Basket would be my first choice of restaurant at Monte, the placing of being in the food court does it a slight injustice as well. <br/><br/>The food has always been of a high standard in terms of Ocean Baskets. I have had sloppy service a couple of times but after a movie, or if you are wanting to have seafood with a budget in mind I would definitely suggest going here.

Wow! We were extremely impressed with this Ocean Basket. The waiters were so friendly and the service was efficient. Our food came very quickly and had been prepared just the way we enjoy it. We both had the grilled fish and chips, the fish was delicious! We will definitely be back again!

A quick dinner meet up that was accompanied with friendly and quick service. The food arrived shortly after we placed an order. The platter was delicious.

Another old faithful OB for fish and chips and prawns. I think most people overlook this branch as it's more by the takeaways section so it's almost forgotten. My last lunch trip here I tried the calamari 3 ways. Huge portion. All our food came out hot and together for a huge group of ladies before attending a show. Service was quick and friendly.

This can be a hit and miss. Sometimes it is great and other times really not. The sushi is at least always fresh and the calamari is very tasty.

Good seafood and easy on the wallet. Read the reviews on this branch before eating here and had fairly low expectations.<br/><br/>In contrast to some of the other reviews my fish had not a single bone and was tasty as all hell!<br/><br/>The fish was cooked perfectly and the sushi was far better than I expected. The sushi rice was nice and sticky (still nice and moist. Not hard and compact at all) and held together well. Was a lot better than some sushi I've had at more upmarket establishments.<br/>

Sushi while I waited for a movie. Had the usual 4pc prawn California roll and 4 pc salmon fashion sandwich. Nothing to brag about but it was nice, the service was nice also. So nothing to complain about but nothing that stands out. It's just a normal ocean basket experience, what you can expect from a franchise.

This is a nice and spacious OB with lovely views. We usually have a good food and service experience here. We always have a side of fried calamari heads with our fish and chips, love the crunchy texture

I am not a good fan of sea food, but today i want give myself chance so we went to Ocean basket. When we entered we find this place good so we go ahead with order. Before that we have called waiter almost 2 times so u can think about service. As we don't have knowledge about sea food so we decided to select random and we select spicy tuna, as i eaten tuna before in subway back in india. When waiter bring that dish we though its very tasty as its decorated very well. But when we ate first bite of this dish then everyone gone crazy as it taste very very bad. So overall very bad experience. As i want to give less than 2 rating but they have very good ambience.

Ocean Basket Monte Casino is the perfect quick seafood fix restaurant. The service is normally ok and the food good. It is also normally quick enough to have before going to a movie, especially if you let your waiter know.<br/>This time, I tried the gluhwine, which they have introduced to their winter menu and can say I was impressed and really enjoyed it. Myself and my husband had 2 glasses each. <br/>I have always had good fresh and delicious seafood at Monte and this time was no different. I had prawns and calamari and enjoyed it.<br/>Cheap and cheerful is what you normally get an Ocean Basket

Piss poor. Do not give in to them if this is your last resort as their service delivery drops tenfold when it's busy. You'll end up with sub-sub-par standards.

I love my seafood and if I want a quick fix, I'll go to any of the Ocean Baskets that are nearest to where I am at the time. Since I go to Monte Casino quite often, I also ending up going to this branch quite often.<br/><br/>The waiters have always been very friendly and the food is served quite quickly. <br/><br/>While the food isn't fit for a prince, it will satisfy any seafood craving that you may have. Unfortunately I have had two bad experiences here where within 30 minutes of having my meal I've had to run to the bathroom to make sure that I don't mess all over the show. <br/><br/>After my latest experience I don't think I'm going to go back there.

So disappointing. Only once we'd all ordered did the waiter tell us that their fryer was broken so half the table had to change their order. The food came quickly but half the orders were incorrect (rice instead of chips, calamari prepared grilled instead of Cajun) and had to be sent back & the hake fillets had so many bones in - odd considering it was meant to be deboned. The mussel top up of 5 - had one very undercooked mussel, we just left it to the side instead of having to complain further or risk food poisoning. Disappointing for a franchise known for being not only good value for money but also good food.

The food here was delicious. Amazing prawns and fresh fish. The service was good and the bread served before your meal is fresh and tasty. will definitely be heading back to this branch, definitely a lot better than most of the seafood restaurants in Durban believe it or not.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of doing dinner at this branch of Ocean Basket. I actually do usually like the food at this chain but I do know that this changes between branches. I love the branch in Sunninghill but this branch, I think I will avoid it like the plague.<br/><br/>I ordered a combo meal with calamari, prawns and angelfish. All three of these were bad. I think it actually made me sick. The calamari seemed like it was marinated in salt for a year before being fried. The taste resembled something. But this something was not calamari. The prawns looked amazing but were just so boring and average that I can't even remember eating them. The fish was the only redeeming part of this meal but there it didn't need to be any good to be better than the rest. In normal terms, it was a very average fish. To top it all off, the tartare sauce was definitely the worst version I've tasted.<br/><br/>I didn't expect great things from this chain as it is in a high-traffic casino and will be heavily visited no matter what. But I didn't expect it to be this bad. If you want seafood, pay a little bit more and you will have probably the best seafood in Jozi at Beira Alta around the corner. Avoid this place like the plague.
