My favorite Chinese place. We have the sushi special every Monday. Fresh, tasty. My no 1 take out

Best for Take Away, not really a nice place for sit down. Food is absolutely amazing and so bloody delicious. Order before you go to pickup, they are very fast but avoid placing orders between 6 and 7, they get very busy and orders will take long.

I spent the past 5 days in JHB, and ordered via the Mr D app, 3 TIMES in this week. Those starter spring rolls are absolutely to die for. Your fried rice was the best I’ve had in a while. Thank you for the good food.

Randomly landed up here & loved it. Quality food! Love that they have a Cantonese menu or a separate Thai menu to choose from, great flavours. Friendly waitress and owner, price is good and they sell cider. I'll definitely be back.

Food is always great. Just the wait that is so long it sometimes keeps me from going there.

The best Chinese food ever. You have to try the sweet and sour pork or chicken. Sushi is also done to perfection. Keep up the good work guys!

OMG, some of the BEST prawn chow mein I've ever had!!! It's super tasty, has ENOUGH prawn and it was still super hot when the guy delivered it to my house!! I would most definitely order from them again!! Totally surprised at how GOOD the food was

Tong Lai has now moved in next to Fat Cake City in the Karaglen Spar complex. From what I understand, the old man's kids have taken over and the I can honestly say, I am very glad that they have opened up again. The food is still good and still good portions. A mask is required in store.

The food is amazing. The chow mein has to be the best and sauciest chicken chow mein I had with vegetables. A absolute gem of a place😋😍

They are temporarily in the Karaglen Mall while they are revamping across the road. I can only vouch for the sushi and Chinese food but they also have a Thai menu. I have never eaten in the restaurant, only had takeaways. A bit of a wait so always fresh and hot.

Most disgusting sushi iv had. Sorry to say but it was rather disappointing. Nevertheless very nice special fried rice, still my favourite out of all the Chinese restaurants Iv been to.

Great food, speedy service...when you call in and ask how long they are accurate and haven't had a problem, spring rolls are awesome and crispy, everything I've ordered has been great and can't complain

I ordered the vegetable chow mein and was very disappointed when I got home and found the food to be like watered down soup. The noodles tasted like overcooked fatti's and monis spaghetti mixed with a minute amount of authentic noodles almost floating in what seemed like some type of packet soup. Not my best meal.

Biught take aways last night which were really good. Price and portion size were great an the beef chow ein was tasty with good proportions of ingredients. Spring rolls were big and tasty and could surfice as a small meal on there own.

Awesome food each time we have been there!

Love the choices between the Chinese and Thai menus.

Favourites include the ginger chicken or the cashew nut beef.

We ordered the spring rolls as a starter—one chicken and the other vegetable—and both were nice. They are pretty big and come cut into thirds so there is plenty to share. I ordered Szechuan chicken and my wife had the cashew nut chicken. She ordered medium but it came mild and she thought it was a little on the bland side. I enjoyed the spiciness of my dish. I have had better fried rice but it was okay. Our server was polite but the service was a little slow considering that the place wasn't busy at the time. Still, I will come back and try other things from the menu.

This is still the best Chinese restaurant in Johannesburg, just my opinion. Always such friendly service and the meals are superb. My go to is the Chicken Chow Mein or the Sweet and Sour Pork- either option is fantastic! Nothing like a Friday Night TakeOut!

I love Tong Lai. The quality of the food is always exceptional. The portion sizes are more than adequate, the vegetables are always fresh, never over cooked.

We had the sweet and sour vegetable, vegetable Chow Mein and the vegetable Chop Suey. Each one was perfect in its own right.

I have been to Tong Lai at least once a month for the last 6 months and every time, it's been very good.

And, the service is fast.

The restuarant has such awesome, delicious quality food. Great family setup and great service. The chop seuy is my favourite dish. For every day of the week.

A definite value for money of you get the set menu. Two in our party got the set menu and the amount of food for the cost is fantastic. The fried stuff is really oily but my won ton soup was great and everyone seemed to generally enjoy their meal. Even though my main, the salt and pepper squid, was tasty it was also chewy showing the cooking time is wrong. Overall I'd say average with a smile :).

When I feel like Chinese food this is the place. we always order from. I always order sweet and sour pork after that I love getting a fortune cookie. Love it. Best Chinese in the vale.

Even though I never sit down at this restsuatrnt, I always order the pineapple chicken dish which is delicious. Anytime I feel like Chinese food I always get my food from here.

My boyfriend and I decided to grab some takeout for dinner as we were not in the mood to cook. He opted for the beef chow mein and I opted for the vegetable chow mein.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere to it. The decor is plain yet chic. The fish tank definitely added to the atmosphere.

As for the food, it was made daily quickly. Ultimately, the food was amazing. The portion size was more than enough. :). The food was not too salty yet was very flavorful. #TasteJoburg

Best Chinese and Thai food in edenvale. This is the only one we go to. Love the prawn spring rolls and sweet and sour pork. We've eaten in the restaurant as well and got a nice experience. Take note when ordering portions are big.

Like most Chinese restaurants, Tong Lai is good for take aways and a quick meal. Sushi is decent although they sometimes seem to slice the wrong piece for their sashimi. My little one doesn't notice but the cut is tougher. Food is decent and I especially enjoy their sizzling plates. Their fried starters (spring rolls and wontons) tend to be very greasy. Food seems a bit on the expensive side but they do seem to have a very lengthy menu.
