Review Kota Joe Roadhouse - Edenvale - Edenvale

Tebatso Maja
I had a last-minute take out date with my girlfriend, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The place is always busy but the staff is really fast in also attending to customers and orders are prepared fast and as per the order. I will definitely be going there at least once a week when I feel like "screw the diet" mood.😅😅

Must try their Kota, we love it. There are few selection for vegetarian, but you can ask them to do a special vegetarian kota. There is special for pizza on Monday and milkshake on Wednesday.

We are always going to Kota Joe and the service we are always getting is extremely amazing. Yesterday we were running a bit late so we called so that they can prepare our food while we on our way so that when we arrive it will be just sitting down and dig the food. We were delayed on traffic and guess they gave us a call to check if we're okay and if we are still on the way which was so amazing. When we arrived they served us so well. Shout out to William😁😁🙏. Thank you Team

Incredible food and milkshakes. Always enjoyable with our family from overseas or across South Africa. The team does a great job with their service. Food is consistent, innovative, well-prepared and presented. They always seem to be busy however their turn around time is still great and they manage this very well.

Great food 26/09/2023 Coming back here after 4years. The service is still excellent, Dennis served us so well. We had to arrive early so we can get our luch since they open at 11am. The food is amazing, I enjoyed my sweet chillie chicken and milkshake 😋 so filling. Will definitely come back..

Didn't know about this place until i decided to google kota places around me and out came this funny funky trendy place... 🙃 love the vibrant colors and youthfulness of this place. In a safe environment with good views for taking pictures whilst waiting for your order or sitting in. Quite and innovative modern design for a food outlet but i loved loved the innovative ways in which they have infused the traditional kota as well as their take on the new modern kota! Their milkshakes left me feeling like a young girl and wished i had more time to explore their menu and space.

I use to go there every Saturday afternoon for a good late lunch and milkshakes with my kids. The service is great and the food is great 👍.... today we had a horrible experience with their manager (short lady with tattoos). She was so rude and I could just tell that she was ready for a confrontation.....long story. You need to train your managers on how to handle customers....I was so angry that I even left and forgot to tip my waitress for her usual excellent service. Will never be going back there again!

First visit to a roadhouse in a long time. Found this gem of a place with an amazing vibe..Service and food is good quality. Make sure u order the house special..Kota..with which ever filling of your choice..Check menu for options. The milkshakes are definitely a favorite. My next visit..will definitely be milkshake first then food Ps..make sure you get a seat upstairs. The car park looks nice..but I preferred the view from the top

Tasty, decent portions, cozy sitting location upstairs.

a lovely fast food joint where don't have to leave your car to order or you can sit at the restaurant.

Amazing setup! Looks like those drive-in outdoor movie theatre. We ordered wings, Dagwood kotas, and a footlong super boerie. All the food tasted amazing. Too bad we were too full to try the milkshake or any of the desserts. We will definitely try the desserts next time. I wonder if it's possible to request a movie to play on the screen while we enjoy the food and drinks.

For an exclusive "road house" experience you have to try Kota Joe's. This is a truly American type set up with pricing that is affordable and portions that will fill you up. My waiter was William and we sat in, very professional, friendly and excellent service. The owner at Kota Joe's is Costa on one of my pics, also super friendly and makes sure that you get the best service ever. Awesome experience and will sure be back. Ps... dnt be turned away if there is a que as the service is quite fast.

Wow! What an awesome experience. It was our 1st time and we thought of trying it out after all the rave reviews. The service was quick and efficient. The retro milkshakes were delicious! We tried the chicken mayo with bacon as well as the sweet chilli chicken kotas. Both were amazing! We also tried the cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce loaded fries which were insanely good. Overall well worth a visit. We loved everything! We will definitely be back to try more of the menu! ❤

Stylish roadhouse, good value and great food, well presented even as takeaways. Kids loved their cool drinking bottle with straw to keep and reuse. Will definitely go again!
Paul Govender
Best milkshakes in town, hands down! Took the kids for a treat, Wednesdays are awesome. Buy one classic retro milkshake and get one free 🥰 Shared the large fully loaded chips, basicslly chicken strips and chips in and amazing delicious sauce, garnished and all! Sit in your car or inside, both give you an amazing experience of an old school roadhouse vibe. Don't forget, Mondays are half price on pizza as well. See you there!

Not the type to complain but wow I am so disappointed. Been here twice now.

First time, we waited over an hour and a half for two hotdogs and wings. When we got the food it was cold.

Second time, we got food posioning!

We won't be coming in for a third time 👋👍
Nalinee Soobramoney
Phoned in our order to collect. An hour later - still waiting in the parking lot, while other vehicles that came in AFTER us, drive away with their orders. The manager’s response is that ‘order is next’ - that was 20 min ago.
The waitress, Busi, wasn’t interested in assisting us.

Left after an hour and ten minutes - no order, no apology, no care from the management.

Awful customer service!!

Will not be wasting our time at this establishment again.

Great service and the milkshakes are to die for ❤️ not forgetting their beautiful beautiful set up

Amaziiiing food, oh my goodness. Love their Kota and one liter milkshake. What a treat 😋😋😋😋😋

The service here could have definitely been better. The food was good as well but nothing amazing. I would return for a quick bite if I didn’t have better options.
Candice Carlson
Highly recommended. Delicious food and friendly staff. The music creates the vibe, ‘failarmy’ on the tv screen makes sure that you are kept in good spirits and laughing. Ive had the Calamari Kota numerous times and it never disappoints.

Looking at everyone else's reviews I am astounded. During the festive season in December 2018, I waited for food for over 45mins. All I ordered were waffles on a stick, one of each flavour to try. People that came after me and were served after me was given food quicker than I was. Eventually after the long wait. I cancelled my order. I have been here before the revamping of the premises. The service was acceptable and food was good.

I just died and went to milkshake HEAVEN. What an incredible roadhouse. Great service, they really got this concept right. I had a milktart milkshake and wrap. My partner had chips and a Mexican Kota. Everything was outstanding. I hardly give a 5/5 unless it’s really taken me to another place. Highly highly recommended.
Dirk
What can I say...great Roadhouse...service with a smile...delicious food...excellent quality. I have been to Kota Joe in Pretoria...first time in Edenvale. We had the Chicken Strip Kota and Halloumi wrap without the wrap as my Natalie is Gluten intolerant...but delicious. And of course we had milkshakes...Butter Caramel...mmmm yummm. We sat in the car and ate but there is space to sit down and eat. Come one come all for a great experience!

Hi. Love roadhouse's, tried Apple Bite but they were closed yesterday. Decided to give KJ a try. The good parts... My son ordered a milk tart milkshake, it was delicious. For food he ordered a quarter chicken mayo, he said it was good..... The bad... Had lots of people to feed so the rest ordered cheeseburgers. I asked for crispy chips but they were soggy. The patty was OK a but tough and dry. But the worst thing was that the tomato and lettuce were damp. So when eating the bottom side of the bun was soggy and wet and the roll just fell apart. One person ordered a pizza. Toppings were good but base tasted like frozen and heated
base. All in all they were expensive compared to other roadhouses and definitely didn't do it for us. I would recommend for milkshakes only
Patricia
With the new look its now definitely my favorite To-Go-Place for a quick but filling bite. Making it a mission to try everything on the menu.
Helen
Great atmosphere, very busy, slightly burnt chicken, chips that tasted like they'd been fried 5 times in old oil, salad nice and fresh. A bit disappointed but will give it another chance!
Kimberley Blunden
This revamp was well needed and well worth the wait. Amazing vibes at the new Kota Joe’s. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I had the Jalapeño Cheese Hotdog and I would definitely recommend it. Full of flavor and super satisfying. The only problem is that service is quite slow. I waited 35 minutes for my food, not great for a roadhouse.
Phatu Phanzu
Never heard a negative comment about Kota joe’s Kota. In fact, even ice cream or waffles.
The food is so nice. But I don’t understand why they don’t have a lot of outlets, whether in Joburg or Pretoria...
I strongly recommend you guys to give it. Try, you won’t regret it.
Theo Cheung
Food is quick and easy. There is a but. .. very oily. It is fast foods after all. Really great and quick service. Good management. Must try is their signature milkshakes!!!! Smooth and fantastic. So good i forgot to take a pic.

To start, my review is weighted in much appreciation for the level of detail and attention paid to the history and nostalgia of the classic drive in diner.Great concept and I am glad the experience exists with a South African touch.the food is great and affordable and they come right to your car window while you park and watch a big screen with strangely interesting content.I would suggest a bigger screen or at least a few more to cover the vast area and possibly faster service but otherwise a great idea! well done guys.
Michaela Leon
I love their pizzas and dessert menu. Their cookies and cream milkshakes are heaven. Staff is so awesomely friendly. We visit here at least once a week and to date I have not had any complaints.
Auriel Myburgh
The picture does no justice to show how amazing this food tastes!! The wait is so worth it! My taste buds are so happy with me. Pizza is so tasteful, milkshake tastes amazing! Their fries are perfect and their chilli kota is to die for! Yes I pigged out a little but I just couldn't have 1 thing when it tastes so good!

I’ve come here on multiple occasions and it’s always been great and tonight was no exception but there were a few flaws, such as for some reason tonight the food took a really long time to arrive, and it’s not like we ordered a huge amount either. They play the same music every night which gets tiring after while. Someone arrived and parked next to us and smoked their hubbly bubbly right through my car’s window, but besides that everything was good, the food was good, the service was good, the overall vibe was good. I do recommend Kota Joe.

Best chicken I’ve eaten , the flavor is amazing and it’s really juicy . The chips that come with it is a hit , really love this place and the size of the chicken is great.
Mario Jv Resnburg
Had a great meal 🥘 at Kota. Portion sizes are generous to large and value for money very fair. The milkshakes are to die for and my wife had the jelly and custard shake and wow really good. The waffle on a stick also did not disappoint. Go hungry !!! As portions are big. Will go back for sure as I want to try one of the foot long hot dogs 🌭.
Overall very please with the services and food.
Sasha De Oliveira
Come here for your junk food fix! The kota's are so tasty! It's rich and saucy and super filling, I usually can't finish the kota's - there is a lot of bread to get through :)) recommend the one with beef strips and tzatziki. Ditch some of the bread and rather leave space for one of their milkshakes: they are out of this world!
David Leite
Kota Joe is everything a roadhouse should be – noisy, colourful and vibrant. It reminds me in a way of the old classic roadhouses like The Dollhouse, The Casbah and Pure & Cool, but with an even better menu selection. The service is good, although it can get really busy at times. I’ve yet to actually try a kota as I normally go for a curry and rice or a dagwood, but next time I think I will try the dagwood kota, although there are so many menu options that it can be quite difficult to decide. The servings are generous and good value for money. My only complaint would be that the pizzas aren’t great but you shouldn’t really be ordering pizza from a roadhouse anyway. Overall a great option for a quick meal when you’re in a hurry or a relaxed stop on a lazy Sunday.

The best beef kota everrr! This kota is like a schawarma but instead of the classic pita, the flavorful filling is stuffed into a fresh kota roll 😊
They also make a mean waffle on a stick Damain Govender

Drove all the way from Fourways in my PJs because I haven't had a roadhouse meal in years and felt like it.
I got the footlong just like I used to get when I was a child, definitely brought back memories! The roll was fresh and the russian was great tasting and very filling! Proper high calorie meal done right 💪🏽 no regrets!

Also very cheap so don't have to spend a lot either and loud music playing so you can enjoy the vibe from your car or in their seated area outside.😁 Would give this place a try if you're keen to go on an adventure and experience a proper American Roadhouse meal and vibe.

Kota joe always hits the spot. I always grab the jozi kota and it tastes out of this world. Even the service from the staff is great and they're always quick to attend to customers. The prices are really affordable abd one is always left feeling fulla and satisfied.
Jose De Carvalho
If you want to load yourself with lots of carbs come here.. here you are guaranteed to find a sandwhich or kota of bread that is stuffed with fries.. I came here a few times as we were too lazy to make food.. the once i tried their steak roll with dried onions.. they actually ask you how you want your meat done.. that is so surprising even for a roadhouse.. their steakroll is a bunch of deliciousness in a roll.. their vanilla shake with fruit ks also very special.. like their slogan says.. forget the diet if you going there.. service is always on point and they give you chappies for change.. love it

This place is my sweet naughty getaway from all the conventional takeaway places.

You have a choice to eat in your car or sit at a table.

Their milkshakes are a must have and their variety is immense. I will stick to my Kotas. They offer great value for money and the portions are legendary!

All and all a great experience - from the music to the option of candy floss.

If you have a Speck appliance in your home, this place will be your wet dream.
Pinkshirlz
Kota's are huge oversized-not-complaining deliciousness!! Just a bit too much chips as a filler but otherwise awesome. Milkshakes are great but some are super sweet and rich. I prefer the basics. Definitely a quick fix when cooking is last on your mind.
Jay
Best place in Jhb for a sneaky milkshake and slap chips. Although their chips aren't as good as Doll House, the service and whole experience is heads and shoulders above other roadhouses. Their slogan is true, you're not going to find a diet-friendly option here but my word it's worth it!!!
My favorite item on the menu is the zoo biscuit milkshake. It comes with actual zoo biscuit pieces in the shake and a full biscuit on top of a dollop of cream!! The chips roll is also a winner if you're looking for something light but filling.
Service is incredible every time!

Been dying to come here since hearing about it.

Rolling up to it, Kota Joes looks like what you'd expect from a Roadhouse. We chose to be seated as we were in no hurry and wanted to get a proper feel for the place.

After squizzing through their epic menu of delicious food we were served by a gentleman by the name of Tebogo. He was very friendly and helped us to make up our minds with what to order.

My gut was craving a burger so I went for their Cheeseburger Kota accompanied by the infamous Zoo Biscuit Milkshake (double thick for double the goodness).

We put in our orders and after what felt like 5 minutes our shakes and food arrived, ready to be devoured.

The Cheeseburger Kota was pretty epic to say the least. Packed full of flavour and very filling I really enjoyed it. The Zoo Biscuit milkshake lived up to the expectation and was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend it and would suggest going for the double thick option.

Their motto is "Screw the Diet" which makes it the perfect destination for cheat meals but in all honesty if you're just in the mood for affordable tasty food then you should check it out.

We had a great time and will definitely be back. Shout out to Tebogo and the rest of the team for making our stay so pleasant and for delivering such good food and shakes.
Kota Joe - lives up to their slogan "screw the diet". I have Kota Joe on a regular basis. This establishment offers some amazing food choices :) Extremely filling, their milkshakes are delicious, the zoo biscuit will never let your taste buds down. Service however could be improved - it's really hard to get the attention of a waiter when sitting down to eat as they are all near the kitchen area very far away, at least have one waiter allocated to check if customers are satisfied at the seating area. Otherwise, really good food, their pricing is fair and reasonable for a good meal.

Although matric exams have been killing me insanely and I basically disappeared off the face of the earth. Definately doesn't mean I was not eating and thinking of you guys! So let's start with one of my biggest exam cheat meal places KOTA JOE! I discovered this place after spending hours at home affairs waiting for my passport and I was staaaaarving. Too lazy to get out of the car and get food but also with a lack of energy I pulled in here. I've been wanting to give them a try for a while and boy I wasn't disappointed! The food is great but what's even better are the milkshakes!! It's like drinking happiness.

After all the raving reviews and being someone who loves fast food, I was really excited to eat here. I was highly disappointed.

The service was painfully slow, very unfriendly and completely inefficient . The food itself was dry and lacking flavour. The milkshake was pretty good but still not the best I've ever had.

We recently came to Kota Joe for lunch. We had a really big order as it was for quite a few people from the office. We had a total of 9 milkshake orders and about 10 food orders. We phoned our order in and when we arrived 20 minutes later it was all ready for collection- we only had to wait about 5 minutes for the milkshakes. The food was very good, however there are practically no vegiterian options. I could only order the chips as basically everything else containd meat (This is the only reason I did not give them a higher rating). I had a salted caramel milkshake which was amazing! I would highly reccomend their milkshakes YUM!!!
Jani Du Toit
What a pleasant surprise, we ordered 9 milkshakes, and 5Kotas for us at the office, they took only 20min to have everything ready and the service was great. The milkshakes looked amazing, I had a chicken shwama Kota and it was delicious, was surprised to find chips in the bottom, but I realise now that's what a Kota is, so remember to have it on a cheat meal day!

I would definitely go there again , would love to go there one night for dinner and have the whole road house experience.
Janita Naidoo
I happened to see this pop up on Zomato while trying to find a place to eat at during a work trip. I read amazing things about the milkshakes, and who doesn't love anything deep fried, tucked into a bun?!

I pulled up to an open parking lot and one of the waiters came to the car to take my order. My chicken strip and chip Kota took about 10 minutes to arrive, whereas the salted caramel milkshake and lemon sorbet smoothie took about 5 (don't judge me, those are the two best flavored things in the entire world, and I had to have them both!)

I took the food back to the guesthouse to enjoy, and it lasted the 10 minute trip in the car. The chicken strips were still crunchy, the chips weren't too oily and the bun was thin, but substantial enough to provide a nice carrier for all of the goodness inside. My lemon sorbet smoothie was so refreshing alongside a carb loaded meal, it really cleansed the palate. The salted caramel milkshake was the best thing I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying! It wasn't sickly sweet or too thick, it was just the right consistency to sip on as a liquid dessert.

I wish we had this in Cape Town!!
Siphiwe Tshabalala
Best roadhouse I have been to. Clean facilities, friendly staff, good food and overall good service. You have an option to dine in, sit in your car or takeaways. for the health freaks this is the place to visit when you have cheat days, The Bar One milkshake is out of this well. Food is fresh, I have tried their Kota(Jozi), Dagwood and beef Schwarma and I must say they were very filling.
Lerato Tseke
My favourite carb overload joint!!!!! Never been to the roadhouse so I was quite excited to visit this one. Waiter came immediately to our car and took our order. The order took some time to arrive despite being placed on the counter for collection. It wasn't even that busy. We paid and left. But as always, the food was DELISH!!!!!! Service needs work.
Akira Wing
Kota Joe has amazing milkshakes, and the rave reviews of them are definitely justified. The Bar One milkshake has been the best I've tried so far, and I plan on going back and trying the rest. However I was disappointed when I finally tried a Kota. I had the Beef Schwarma which had nice fresh ingredients, but it was a little bland and I found that the filling was overwhelmed by the amount of bread and chips involved. My boyfriend had the grilled chicken, and somehow got a piece of beef prego mixed into it. The chicken wasn't great. Overall it's a nice meal if you like your carbs, but I think next time I'll try a wrap with my milkshake.
Paula Dow
Great fun! Got to have a meal out without the inconvenience of actually going into a restaurant. Service is fantastic and friendly. My husband raved over the dagwood and the chips are tasty and hot. What more could you ask for from a roadhouse!
Genevieve Law
The best milkshakes in the east!

This is the first time I've ever tried a roadhouse - probably because I've never known what to expect from it.

Kota Joe has a huge variety - everything from their Kotas to pizza, ribs and fish&chips.

There's an old school vibe the the place, with sweet popcorn options, candy floss machines, loud music and chappies that come with the bill.

The service is friendly and prices are reasonable. The food is good - but all pretty heavy and definitely not aimed at the health conscience.

I recommend their toberlone milkshake! 😊
Lefa Noko
Best milkshakes in the East Rand. These guys are definitely making Roadhouses cool again, 1 kota at a time. Food is above average, nothing to write home about, but their milkshake (and other desserts) are top notch. 😋
Daphne
Stopped in quickly today had a decadent milkshake and a Kota. Brought back memories from my childhood, when we used to go to the roadhouse every weekend. Only one regret, wish there was one closer to home. #dietwhatdiet!
Yolisa
Typical roadhouse food. I am not too excited about their kotas... I know kotas are more delicious than that. I feel like somethings should be kept as they are, and their Kotas are too modernised.
Mike Dahbour
Lovley service easy food amazing atmosphere went there me me my wife and two kids we could not finish the food as its big meals and I paid less than R250 rand I think very good value for money and kids did love the milk shake and they loved the idea of ordering and eatting from the car well done for great concept
Clare Appleyard
Fabulous selection of delectable flavored milkshakes - flavours like the Toblerone, Lindt, Crunchy and Ferrero Rocher come packed with actual chocolate goodness.
We tend to stick to the whole chicken and chips which is pretty good value for money. The burgers/kotas are pretty heavy on the bread, but overall not too bad.
Slightly disappointed by the waffle on a stick - quite heavy and doughy rather than being light and crispy.
Laura Kapelari
Exactly what you want a roadhouse to be. Awesome staff and service. I had the Horlicks and Fudge Milkshake and Milano Pizza. Hands down best milkshake I've had (and that for R20). Very affordable, delicious food for when you want to pig out a little. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu items (Zoo biscuit milkshake and Dagwood kota - I'm looking at you!).
Lea Glass
I loved Kota Joe; it made me feel like a kid again! Is not exactly fine dining, but then one shouldn't expect that from a road house. What it is, is a fun place to stop at, and pick up some "wholesome" junk food, once in a while. The food came piping hot. The portions are huge and chips are spiced and yummy. The burger was really very good for food on the road.
The service was fast and friendly, and it was all in all a fun experience. I will definitely go back for the shake.
Serena Seunarain
The idea of a Road house always excited me and my first visit to Kota Joe was highly anticipated but I have to admit slightly disappointing. Their milkshakes were delicious but their cheese burger didn't really do it for me. It lacked taste and sauce. And that bun was way too dry.

My brother had the chicken burger though and said that was tasty so I guess now I know what to order should I ever go back.
Cameron Jody Robey
Very well done up . Really looks nice everything about this place is really cool , waiters and waitresses are all so friendly , milks shakes are s little bit to runny , food was great for a road house, will Defs go back .
Lucianrajah
Standard Kota Joe's fair; good food, a once-in-a-while indulgence, great pricing, friendly and a great amount of staff. A preferred destination for our car club meetups.
Alma Pretorius
The Jozi Restaurant Page on Facebook has numerous reviews on Kota Joe ... we drove to Fordsburg, everything were closed, so we drove to Kota Joe.

My junior Chicken Schwarma was amazing!!!!! Quite a portion and just so delicious!

Hein had the Prego Kota. It was good, the sauce was okay.

Waiters and waitresses were neatly dressed and quick.

Looking at the variety of shakes, I had to have one ... I chose the Zoo Biscuit Shake. It's a big jar filled with this yummy shake, small pieces of Zoo biscuit all through the liquid, topped with whipped cream and a Zoo biscuit. It was utter deliciousness for R20!!!!
Jerusha
Best milkshakes ever! Apart from the amazing food and the lovely staff this place has the best chilled atmosphere- like you can go in your pjs and no one will judge lol. The milkshakes are to die for and they have such unusual flavors, the food is also very tasty and very very filling. Their chips are also good. Take a drive here with some friends on a Friday night or stop here after clubbing and you will have an extremely happy belly.
Dakota Murphy
There were three people in the car when we pulled up to the road house and we were greeted with a friendly smile by our waitress and served quickly as we were there for a short time waiting for our take a ways and you can't exactly find place where you have a fair sized meal for only R37 although special milkshakes are a bit more expensive still worth every penny and as we were leaving the manager waved us on with a big smile I will be going back without a doubt in my mind with my girlfriend Zoë Dorothy Brentano
Zoë Dorothy Brentano
Been here twice and loved it. Simple setup, waiters bring menus or there is a big menu in front. Service can be slow but its to be expected, if you looking for a quick order and go meal there is a KFC 50m away. Love the variety of milkshakes, would go back to try them all. Tried the new Salted Caramel shake from the summer collection. Excellent value for money, portion sizes are good. Ordered the mince and cheese, definitely a good combination with chips stuffed in. The right amount of spice. Will be back again
Krinisha Kara
Always the best milkshakes and freshest food! Such friendly staff and a hip atmosphere with the latest music. Definitely a great place to eat with friends and have a good and chilled night out! The menu has variety and every item is flavourful. Speedy service too!
Linguini
We went to Kota Joe due to the great reviews but we were not impressed. Yes, the milkshakes are good, but the service was incredibly slooooow. We ordered food as well and the chicken inside my sandwich was very hard to eat - I basically had to pull out most of the chicken because it was cartilage or hard parts you would normally discard and eating bread stuffed with fries doesn't qualify as lunch for me. The place is nice and will continue to grow, but it is overrated in my opinion... Perhaps going for a milkshake is a good, but I would rather go to a place that's nearby for that.
Roland Schwartz
With no power at home brought the family for a roadhouse meal with a twist. Haloumi wraps, schwarma kota & chicken strips n chips were enjoyed by all. Good vibe excellent service & tasty food - our goto roadhouse!
Jon Gericke
I miss the good old roadhouse.
I remember as a child, going to the Doll's House in Moulie Point in Cape Town and getting a footlong hot dog and a milkshake.
You can do that now, at Kota Joe!!!

I had a footlong hot dog with crispy chips on a lovely fresh roll. The food was fast and delicious.

Don;t expect five star food, but expect the best milkshakes in town.
Do yourself a favour and drive out to Kota Joes and experience just one of their amazing variety of shakes. You won't be sorry.
Miruthini Naiker
Kota Joe has some of the best milkshakes.... Tasted a few different flavours and it can be agreed that the Iced Zoo Biscuit Milkshake is the best! However some of the chocolate flavours taste a bit generic. The Kotas are huge and tasted ok. Not something I would crave.
Justine Taitz
This place reminded me of how road houses used to be. Great music with a fun vibe. The food is typical road house style. Milkshakes are great.
Epicurean Republic
Kota Joe has some of the best milkshakes around, the zoo biscuit milkshake is amazing. I usually order a Kota or a Chicken whenever I go there. Everytime I've eaten the food has been good but not great plus the service is always extremely slow at Kota Joe.
Elmay Swart
Great menu, wouldn't recommend it for a low calorie diet though. I've ordered the food before and there's nothing exceptional about it really. Great hangover food. My favourite part about Kota Joe's Menu are the Milkshakes. Man, oh man, they're out of this world and are filled to the brim! They're seriously generous wih toppings all round and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. This Kota Joe is a roadhouse style, which is great, but the service suffers a little. Oh! And there are fire dancers at night on the weekends :D
Dean Govindsamy
Screw the diet! Awesome establishment. Milkshakes are heavenly. Had the prego kota real value for money. I recommend go hungry. Coco pops milkshake in a retro jam jar. Hits the spot.
Peet Van Vuuren

The place looks cool and pumps out dance music set to sixties in a modern style mix, a backdrop of black tiles on the walls and huge billboards and smallish LCD TV playing cartoons at times.

We live close to this place so we support it
The atmosphere and food are great.
You can even chill at tables if you like.

The service in the middle isn't always great.
Recently I got 3 milkshakes instead of two I ordered.Just paid anyway. The waiters seem to change shift from when you order to when you get your bill. Happened twice to me.
Oreo milkshakes, chicken and halumi wraps are our favourites and the toasted sandwiches are great. Never had a Kota though. Looks to bready.
Pizzas in general are my favourite meal, theirs I don't order anymore, not because they are bad but because I don't think they are worth the price.
Card machines work when you want to pay and you get Chappies with the bill!!
Shweet bru

Always look forward to a milkshake or and take away from here! While you wait for you order there's some awesome beats going and the old cartoons playing on the flat screens in front! Without a doubt the best milkshakes ever! My personal favourite is the Zoo Biscuits one! #amazing!!! Food is always on point!

Prepare yourself for BIGGER everything. This is the the King of junk feel good food in South Africa. Its the first time I have eaten at Kota and it is different from a burger as they carbo-load it with chips. The milkshake I had was too sweet to finish and the waffle on a stick was drenched in chocolate. For me the key word to Kota Joe would be "TOO". Too sloppy, too much chips, too sweet. There was no balance. There is however a time and a place for "TOO" and when that mood strikes, his is the place to go.

My wife is a sucker for Kota Joe. I always have to drive by to get the Jozi Kota for her. The service is not bad and the food is well prepared. A typical roadhouse classic is the the Blondie. Big and wholesome.

The best roadhouse out there! Their milkshakes are out of this world! A definite must try! Skip McDonald's when you're on your way home from a night out and head straight to Kota Joe's for a much tastier quick drunken meal. You won't regret it!

Kota Joe's in van Riebeeck Road, Edenvale. I've been wanting to go for so long and seeing that Sunday's are my cheat day, off we went. We arrived ravenous after we decided to skip breakfast for the big pig out. The menu makes it difficult to decide but I settled on the prego kota and hubby on the chilli russian kota. For drinks we were told that you can't visit Kota Joe without having a milkshake and I went for the iced zoo milkshake and hubby for the Crunchie milkshake. Service was super fast and the milkshakes are indescribably good. Our food was just as good. I was defeated halfway through but hubby finished mine too. I will definitely go back to try their other milkshakes. I cannot fault anything as it was perfect! If you haven't been. Go.

Not having grown up in Joburg, roadhouses are a relatively foreign concept and typically places that are only visited when all else is closed. Having said that Kota Joe stands out head and shoulders above the rest with superbly friendly staff and good old roadhouse fare. I recommend the Haloumi Wrap!

I have not tasted the food, but their milkshakes are unbelievably delicious. Available in a range of contemporary and tempting flavours, such as Diddle Daddle, Tempo, Lindt, Zoo Biscuit and lots more, their serving sizes are generous and always have a garnish of the chosen flavour on top (with cream) and usually at the bottom as well.

Great for a delicious treat on the go!

When my friend told me about Kota Joe's, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm happy to say I was thoroughly excited about my experience there. My Kota was amazing and they've added a great twist to something so particular to South African culture. The Milkshakes are mind blowing - full of flavour and filling!! Try the Ferrero Roche favour - it will make your life!😊😊

I went to Kota Joe after a long day and visiting family nearby. I was looking for anything f pretty decent and filling. After a long negotiation with the lady serving me she understood that I wanted the grilled chicken (Kota or whatever).

Now Kota has always had my eye and looked pretty good on van riebeck road, they had good music, a TV playing cartoons, a spot for people to sit at and a guy flinging around flame ball things - not bad for a roadhouse in Edenvale.

I sat in wonder waiting for this relatively cheap and good looking food as the youngster flung around his flame balls. I also sat tapping my foot and nodding my head listening to some amazing chilled house music. I sat in wonder reading the menu....when I was done with the menu and the music and the flame guy got tired I recalled that I ordered a grilled chicken thing over 30 minutes before.

I'm not sure if I can write this review because I am still sitting in wonder, more 'wondering' when that thing actually arrived or if they ever actually made it. I kept asking where it was but even as I drove off after my third query I was still in wonder but more 'I wonder' what their food actually tastes like.

I have been hearing good things about Kota Joes for jonks.
I FINALLY had the opportunity to grab a bite here, being in the area.
My expectations were REALLY high, and they were met - but not exceeded.
The food was fairly average, I had a Prego Kota... but the Halloumi wrap (or styler as they call it) looked way yummier.
However, the reason I came was for the milkshakes. The variety and quality of the milkshakes are SUPERB. They may be the best in Joburg (although I'm yet to try the ones at Fire & Ice in Melrose Arch).
Overall it's a good experience, and I would go back again for sure.
Unfortunately (but maybe thankfully for my weight) there are none in JHB North, so I won't be a regular.

Having just moved to Edenvale and finding my surroundings i ended up at this really great ROADHOUSE. I had the best tasting spare ribs with chips and was good value for money!

Kota Joe Roadhouse is my ultimate guilty pleasure. I just love the variety of tasty grub on offer. The milkshakes are a must! Great for a quick bite on cheat day.

Good pricing. Very quick service and the food was great. The milkshakes are absolutely out of this world. Would definitely go back. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience

Nice food but they definitely have an operational issue in their kitchen! Be prepared to wait forever for your food and drinks to get to! Always the same issue I'm afraid. Perhaps staff should party less and work more!

Love their milkshakes, we just phone and order and they are always ready for us to stop and go. The whole family love the chocolate milkshakes and the vanilla is great too.

They keep us coming back for more, even late at night.

This place is great. The vibe is amazing. The milkshakes (zoo biscuits!!!!) are incredible and the food is great value for money. Sure, it's no gourmet meal, but it's definitely not choice to head out to! I was impressed!

I love the idea of parking your car, ordering your food and eating right there in the car. All we are missing is waitresses on roller skates :) the shakes are good. I ordered the pizza and a kota. Food was average but the experience was quick and fun. Would come again and order something different.

Awesome food, awesome vibe and really good value for money! The Kotas are really delicious and the milkshakes are to die for! Great roadhouse and is a must visit!

A roadhouse that just relax itself, thank goodness it was long overdue, looks quite funky. The food is okay, maybe not as good as other fast foodies, but it quite adequate. Service is as you'd expect fast
I only visited this place because my friends were horrified I'd never been to a) Edenvale and b) a roadhouse (American). It was interesting, I'd say.

People come to a roadhouse more for the convenience than the actual food, which was average. You are parked in long bays and the waitress comes to your window to take your order. The idea is that you are done and move forward by the time the cars fill in behind you.

We parked and got out. I have to say that the milkshakes were amazing! I had a Nutella milkshake - very rich but I eventually finished it. Our waitress took quite a while to come check on us and take our orders, which also took a while to arrive. If I have to guess, people parked in cars get priority.

Oh and the bill comes with chappies! CHAPPIES! Love that touch.

Every time I have visited the Kota Joe franchise, I have been pleasantly surprised. For a quick supper or naughty indulgence you have to try my 2 absolute favorites:
The Kota Shwarma with Tzatziki & Humous and my personal favorite, the Zoo Biscuit Milkshake. How clever!

The service is friendly and prompt and I have to tell you the ambience unlike other roadhouses with great lighting (not dingy at all) and background music.

Every time I ahve passed a Kota Joe they are packed. Must be their food!
Their branding presence is also top notch.

Seriously, Try it

I loooove Kota Joe!! But we were very upset to see them closed tonight? Does anybody have an idea what happened?
Gary Greenberg
If you want a quick bite at a roadhouse then pop into Kota Joe. Unfortunately there is not much for vegetarians on the menu however you can always just have a toasted sandwich with mozzarella cheese and you are good to go for the rest of the day. One thing that you can add to a meal is a quick soft serve (chocolate or caramel dipped) or a filling milkshake.

There are unfortunately not many roadhouses in the country to choose from but this one is better than quite a few out there.Their pricing is right (as there is a lot of carbs on the menu) and their branding is quite good. This roadhouse appears to be clean from the outside and not badly run. However, the food does take a little long to come to your car or table if you choose to sit outside on a nice sunny day.

Kota Joe is my local fast and easy eat out, it is not what you would call a fine dining experience but the food is good for the small price you pay, personal favourite the prego kota. The milkshakes are unbelievably good and pricing is great

The kotas need more sauce. The top is nice and juicy. But as you get to the middle its dry. Also not much of a chicken choice in the kotas
