Review Grand Slam Sports Diner - Edenvale

Gavin Hsiao-Ying Kung
Grand Slam has changed a bit since my last visiting a few years ago. We watched Springbok match, it is still amazing atmosphere so we enjoyed a lot. The food quality is great and portion is big, a bit pricey for the drink but worth it. There is new section for a modern coffee shop with delicious cake. It is a great place to watch sport with family and friends. Great service from our waitress Angelica đź‘Ť

We watched the Rugby semi final at Grandslam , as we arrived we found a table ,it wasn’t too busy . Food was great , their potato chips are massive but nothing to complain about . The service we received was top notch, will definitely be back

The Grand Slam diner has changed a fair bit since my last review a few years ago. The coffee shop section on the deck is now open to all and is an integral part of the main sections. The atmosphere is more pub like now, though early in the day it is still quiet and mainly coffee and snacks are served. Later, and over weekends, it is really busy and sports are shown on all the TV monitors. The food is good and service friendly and efficient. At busier times service is a little slow. I still enjoy going there.

The staff are friendly and attentive. The menu is constantly being reviewed and altered. There is a functional generator during load-shedding and always sports on the screens. No bias, no prejudice or favouritism between sports teams or competitors. Just pretty girls serving cold beers with a smile :-)

Love this place. Brand new modern and cozy coffee shop with amazing brew & delicious cake. If you are a sports fan, it's a great place to bring friends & family. Overlooks the park with a beautiful view & plenty secure parking. I personally ride my mountain bike to the pub, as not to drink and drive.

A lovely new option for just meeting with friends, great morning coffee, exciting breakfast options and a spot to work from. We were greeted and served by Donovan, who oversees the café, is the barista and a lovely young man, who loves what he does. He explains the food in detail and I suggest asking him for recommendations if you’re not sure what to eat. I had the Grande Flat White coffee, which I loved. My guests enjoyed the sweet hot chocolate, creamy latte, fresh scones and chocolate muffin. I opted for the Pulled Pork Baguette, which I really enjoyed. The fresh and tasty pulled pork meat in a lovely sauce, caramelized onions and the right hint of thyme in between a fresh crisp baguette was a treat for breakfast. They also have a lovely counter top area against the window where you can sip on your latte and bang away on your laptop keyboard. Or just chill on the comfy lounge area and catch up.

On a trip back to SA unfortunately not for a blast but sad times. To be truthful I enjoyed having a few cold ones and great food, service good this is one place that will always be in heart always thanks

Cold beer and a burger - is there a need to elaborate more?

Great hangout to watch sports or meet friends for a few drinks. The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable. Food is outstanding...I'm a huge fan of their chips!

My second home. The best people in the world along with the best food. And of course the hottest managers (Mr Raul himself)ďż˝ had the best experiences and memories working there. I will cherish them forever. Grandslam has my heart. I highly recommend paying them a visit.

It seems to have gone down a bit food wise but always a pleasure in the surroundings - staff are always attentive and service great!
Margaret Poipao Martins
I love the ambiance. It's so much fun. Makes me so proud to go watch the Portugal games there, because they play Portuguese music etc. the food is also great. The staff are friendly. Keep up the Good job.

Absolutely love Grand Slam, the owners are always lovely towards us. My fiancé and I's friends and family are regulars of the diner and will continue to be regulars. The waiters and waitresses are always lovely, despite one issue with a waitress, which Grand Slam handled professionally and efficiently. Thank you for such reliable service in such an unreliable industry.

I am a regular. Always love the food. But tonight I was serviced by a waitress Dani. What a brilliant waitress. Because of her I will continue being a regular. So polite and well spoken. I will definitely always ask for her section.

It's a great place to be ... love the food, drink and the vibe .... All staff are always ready to help ... wow Thank you Grand Slam

Johan. Time u found out how to organise a kitchen. To take more than 35 minutes to provide a plate of chips is apalling

Although we only drew yesterday and need a replay, we all had an awesome time watching City playing, together with the Gauteng Blues. The Grand Slam is a great venue with good food and simply nice being there

Very good memories at this place. Good food, great atmosphere. A must in my eyes.
Corne Van Zyl
Great service, Great vibe with the best food and coldest of beers.

Dovi Lipshitz
Great people, great staff, great food, what more could you ask for! I absolutely loved the experience

Always a great place to meet and catch up with mates over a few beers watching sport. Will highlight the one bad experience I have had in paying close to R350 for 8 of the smallest prawns. Was daylight robbery, but in saying that I'll always go back for the atmosphere.

One of those truly cool sports bars. Love the large bar and decor together with the large screen. Always able to watch whatever you need on the many screens around. Had the chicken trinchado and it was excellent. Service was great. Awesome spot to watch a game and have a meal.
Kevin Ross Munro
Love the venue very high class would reccomend it but Terrible waitressing by a lass named Nicola brings private affairs into a professional environment which is tangent especially considering the fact that the customer is always right. She tends to insult and use foul language toward customers.
Natalie Coker
One of the better pub-type places around. Great vibe and set up. Tons of screens showing all different games, good food and excellent service. Perfect for a group of friends looking for a good time.
Tamara De Kock
The best Trinchado in Johannesburg by far! I would love anyone to challenge me on this because I am always on the lookout for better :) it seems to be a very popular local with loads of banter and good vibes.
BMW Magic
The best chicken burger in the world!!!! And the HOT sauce...... you have to try it to know :)
The most perfect place to watch multiple sports simultaneously.

It's one of Edenvale's hidden gems, the venue is elegant and spacious. I was treated with great hospitality by a friendly and engaging waitress. It's got both indoor & outdoor seating for whatever suits you best as a visitor. Although not a very diverse demographic you'll usually find there, it is still very accommodating to anyone who chooses to visit

Headed through to the East last night for a friends birthday dinner that they had organised there. Sport bar/pub type vibes, great selection of beers on tap, including Hunters Dry - which was a first for me - and really tasty.
Food was good, not exactly cheap - our pizza base which we then added on chicken and peppadews cost about R 80. Others at the table enjoyed burgers and massive potato wedges, which I would certainly have if I get to visit again.
Football on the telly, open deck with a great view and good service - not too bad :)

I think somebody put testosterone on the menu. Never seen so many angry people in my life, and for somebody who battles with anxiety and a short temper, it's quite a ride. By the time I left I didn't know what to do with myself. Cool place for sports, but not my vibe. Beer was cold- so extra point to you.
Michael Morton
I'm biased.. I'm a Liverpool supporter, so the fact that they have the games on a big screen along with plenty other tv's. It's pretty much a Liverpool fans dream in terms of sports watching...

Meals aren't great, but beers are cold and the sounds of 'you'll never walk alone' ringing out is enough to keep me coming back..
Benoit Le Roy
A pleasant watering hole with a good choice of reasonably priced beers. Watching sport on the big screen and myriad of TV's is a major draw card. Food quality has declined, although still generally good, and has become pricey. Signature burgers not really the local benchmark any longer but ribs and chips still the best locally.
Lucianrajah
Looks very pretty (not just for a sportsbar) and friendly, timely staff that make it a great venue to watch a sports match.

Tried their signature burger which after adding cheese, a sauce, chips (yes this is separate) and a soft drink will cost you around R120 - so, not cheap.

The burger is presented on a plate that is fills and is huge... Or is it? The oversized bun hides the normally sized patty, excessive lettuce and tomato are used to make it seem bigger and I suspect the cheese may be processed.

Altogether a decent experience but sadly the quality is far from the price. Better tasting (perhaps bigger) burgers can be had for half the money.

If after work drinks or a place to watch a sports game is what you're after; it's perfect. Unfortunately just too expensive for the food you actually recieve.

Go here for 2 things... Atmosphere and the Mannis Special. Perfectly cooked fillet in an unbelievable sauce. Definitely worth going out of your way for. Can't really rave about the rest of the menu, average at best. But the Mannis is a must!
Michele Cicognani
Great sports bar, atmosphere for the family or the rowdy. Drinks are well priced and the Portuguese food is great smoking areas and big bar area make it somewhere to go. Ordered the grand slam platter.
Clare Appleyard
Ever popular watering hole that serves some fairly decent food. Burgers are well sized and generally juices. Chips are amazing but the day we were there, service was awful. Had to head to the bar to ask for menus and to order our food. Took over an hour for a burger and a trinchado to arrive. Food was good when it did arrive, but don't expect anything to happen in a hurry.
Taniko Gough
The only fault in this place is the terrible Calamari , bland bland bland . The rest of the table had the Manni special and Portuguese steaks , smiles all round .

We had the most awesome waitress , never faulted once and as sweet as anything .
Will definitely give this place another try but stick to what they seem to be good at , pub grub .

The Grandslam is a great place to go if you are looking for a quick bite to eat or enjoy having a few drinks and watching the sport. The new look is great and there is a great atmosphere. The corn crumbed chicken with vegetables is great as well as Manny's special is delicious and the steak is cooked to perfection. The chicken livers for a starter is pretty average and the portion is rather large but the sauce is quite tasty.
Neal Feigin
Perfect venue for live sports, since they have revamped the place has reached a new level. Staff members are always friendly. Food is of a great quality, the chips are be best!!!

Awesome atmosphere. Very big and juicy burgers. Service is great. Beautiful sport bar. Quick service. Always busy with a great vibe. Food is amazing.

Now that Grandslam re-opened after renovating we decided to give it a try. The new decor is alot better, definitely more modern looking and a better use of space! They have a great selection of drinks on offer including craft beers. Tv's located all around the resteraunt ensure everyone is able to watch whatever sport is on regardless of where you sit. I found the food dissapointing - i had a toasted chicken, the toasted bread had been caked in butter and the chips although delicious were dripping with oil! We ordered a full chicken - it was smokey and delicious. The prego was dry and extra prego sauce needed to be ordered. The service was excellent however the food could stand to be improved.
Kyle Paul Pretorius
Excellent pub / sports bar. Haven't been here in quite sometime and was surprised to see the subtle revamp. I think the place is brilliant with a welcoming vibe. Plenty screens to watch games all in HD! Will definitely be back here soon.
Lee-Anne Jacobs
Totally out of our comfort zone - went to watch the Springbok vs Scotland Game .
Place was jam packed with a very festive crowd.
The serving staff have to be commended for their quick amazing service - considering the crowd it was 20/10
The food was excellent - I had the Beef Tchinchada (sic) - rest had burgers - 8/10
Crowd was a bit odd ........happens when East meets West - all in all a great evening !!!
David Ferronha
I had a fantastic Prego steak roll at Grand Slam. It's a great place to enjoy live sport and the service is friendly. I'll definitely be back. They also have a very good selection of beers.
Genevieve Law
One of the well known landmarks of Edenvale. Always a great atmosphere when there's a sports game on. Since the revamp it looks a lot more classy. The food is ok. The same as what you'd expect from a sports pub. The ribs are delicious!

Grand Slam Sports Diner has recently gone under the butchers knife and had a well deserved face lift. The ambience is great. Food and service are both good.
Hendrik Van Den Berg
Place looks great! Went there for a game of footie and the atmosphere was excellent. I found a nice spot at the bar and the waiter was quick to serve me. I ordered the Chicken Trinchado with veg and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was cooked perfectly - juicy and tender and the jus was spicy and flavourful. The veg served with it was not your usual spinach and squash, which is also an upside. Will definitely be visiting Grand Slam again!
Charles Ferreira
Had burgers fish and chicken. Deck has been revamped very nicely just need sun umbrellas. Food was pretty good waiter Johny handled all well. Raul came to chat to us met all and made sure we looked after. Will definitely be back.
Jimmy Nicolaou
They've revamped this old popular place. Nicely done. We sat on the deck and there was a good lively vibe. Our waiter was laid back and had a good sense of humour which added to our fun afternoon lunch. We ordered a variety of meals. Mine was the Dagwood which was good and BIG. The others had saucy burgers, peri-peri chicken and hake with homemade chips and salads. All seemed happy with their meals. To sum it up, a great afternoon of indulging in food and beer by all at a Grand place.

Atmosphere is great but the food was terrible! Chicken prego with NO sauce and some onion and tomato rings. Tasteless. Mannys special also half the size it used to be
Sujay
This was a great place to watch the Wimbledon final. Big screen and HD tvs all round. The food was good and the service was great. Keep up the good work.

Recently refurbished, Grand Slam always delivers what it promises. Great pub food and vibe, and reasonable prices. Can take your kids if you go early in the evening before it's too busy or noisy. Stunning view of the sunset. Service has been good lately, but was a problem in the past. Hopefully they'll have Heineken on tap soon, my husbands major disappointment.
MelGeeZA
Newly redecorated, much more classy but still amazing sports bar. Menu been revamped too, simpler more sophisticated, but glad to see the old favorite, Manny's Special is still on the menu!
Allan Alkie Richts
Visited the new improved Grandslam on Saturday. Looking very nice, spacious and well revamped. Unfortunately the waiter either thought he was doing us a favour, or is a very unfriendly young man, but we were left feeling "rather unserved". I ordered a starter and got told it was not available, and neither were my next Two choices. The food we did receive was very nice, and we will return to get it another chance. Generally a very nice improvement, hopefully standards are kept up, and outages are limited.
Alexis Assimacopoulos
A great place to watch sport- good vibes and lots of noise (perfect combo to watch my gunners kick butt!) but the food is not even worth the meagre price. Great for watching Football, but little else I'm afraid
Derek Martin
What a horrible place, over crowded under staffed and just very poor in every aspect!

It all starts off with really expensive parking - R10 per hour! If you do not want safe and secure parking there is a field in the back where one can park - dodgy to say the least!

The actual venue is very dark and dingy with lots of strange characters hanging around the bar area - the food is not great at all and in general the prices that are charged on can go to a different sports bar and have a very enjoyable time for less money!
Eddie Chien
Big, generous portions of food. You can't expect a Class 5 wine and dine meal here, but it serves it's purpose- watching Footy while mindlessly feeding your face and chugging golden liquid. Awesome vibes game time!
Steven Franco
Terrible, went there on a Wednesday evening to watch the football and the waiter had to ask us 3 times to remind him what we wanted, the food arrived an hour late, when he did eventually bring the drinks he didn't bring all of them, we had to remind him again what we had ordered. Both tables in front and behind were also complaining about the terrible service.
VisZA
Grand Slam has to be one of the best places to watch live sport in Johannesburg.
The vibe during live events is phenomenal, although it does get very packed during such events.
The outside deck has a great view and their burgers and platters are fantastic.

Service is always spot on and the pricing is reasonable.

Loads of draught beers on tap and the sport memorabilia decor fits the restaurant well.
Vince Dalais
The slammer is the place to be when the Boks play, there is such a great vibe when a good game is on, if the Boks play you should be there early.
The beer is always cold and I'd say that the Grand slam burger is a winner.
Bruce
Good place to watch a sporting event while having good food and drink with friends. Highly recommended.
