Amazing food. Friendly service. Chicken livers were super tasty, chourico was divine. Prawns were massive, juicy and tasty. Ribs, the best marinade I've tasted in town. Super yum. And super reasonable prices. Well worth the drive.

A bustling little restaurant that is always well supported by the locals. Food is great, portion sizes are really good and daily specials are a surprise to your pocket. Definitely one not to miss.

What a delightful pleasure this was indeed! Authentic Portuguese cuisine.. to the T! Awesome vibe.... Food was cooked to perfection, spoilt with soo many flavors... what an enjoyment. And when they say hot is hot, it is hot hahaha yet tasty 😋 Death by chocolate... just yummy Well priced as well. Menu caters to everyone... something for everyone. Can't wait to go back!!!!! It's definitely a place to go to and try everything on the menu, and the staff is beyond friendly....

Depends what kind of vibe you looking for. Decent prices for the meals. They sometimes have really great affordable specials. In my experience, Always busy, but no need to book unless you a big table. Great location

My favourite Portuguese restaurant ever! Their pregos are out of this world, well actually the whole menu will make you crave for more! Amazing, hands on owners & friendly staff... Great for any occasion. The desserts are amazing & rich & there are always scrumptious specials on offer. Not only do you get to enjoy traditional Portuguese food but you have the option to have pizza & pasta which is out of this world! They have vegetarian options & a kiddies menu too. There is an option for smoking or non...

Feeling for some authentic Portuguese cuisine? O PERI PERI Edenvale has been around for many years and people keep going back for more. Did a quick stop for some Chicken and Milho Frito, and Chicken Fillets with veggies. Service was friendly and efficient from Tyla. Loved the quirky decor in the shop. Also couldn't believe my eyes how the Peri bottle separates and makes such a pretty vision also the big bottles they sell if you want to take it home. Not a bad idea. We didn't have dessert but just bought a 6pack of mini Pastei de Nata's My chicken was tasty and luckily not as hot, but the sauce gave it an extra kick. The milho frito was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely go check them out to heat things up a bit. 🌶 #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TFMOPeriPeri

I recommend this restaurant altogether. However, the volume can get a little overwhelming on busy nights.. bring earplugs. What a superb meal though. 😋 and the waitresses appears to be all models. (Interestingly pleasant touch).

We've yet to have a sit down meal there, but we've ordered take outs from them 3 times in the last month or so, and each time I was extremely impressed at the food and value for money. Honestly some of the best Portuguese food I have had.
Andrea Dawson
Friendly atmosphere, great vibe. Delicious food and attentive staff.

The place offers best service and great food. But the restaurant could use some renovations and a better clean up as sometimes they get too busy and the place is packed they can't avoid the place being dirty.
Ben Peters
It's not fancy, but the food is delicious. The grilled chicken is a must and the chorizo makes a great starter for the table. The chicken prego roll is one of the best I've had.

Fantastic! Celebrated a milestone birthday. Food was amazing, hospitality incredible. Best waitress ever. Thank you for making our table of 15 have the best impromptu celebration. We are still talking about it. Well done 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We love Peri Peri. I celebrated my 50th birthday party there and we had a fabulous time. The food as always was GREAT and the service from our waitress , Megan (Coco) was amazing. She managed our group of 32 like a star

Loved the food.loved the service. But I do think they need bouncers at night to control drunk individuals who are loud and make it unpleasant for others who just wana enjoy the evening and eat fantastic food
Marlene Pienaar
The best restaurant in the East Rand. The owners and staff treats everybody with the greatest respect. Would recommend Peri Peri anytime. You guys rock.
Andre Breytenbach
Very cozy atmosphere. Service is excellent food is well priced and drinks are plenty. Not the best tasting food bit budget friendly and plenty to chose from . Waitresses are very helpful

O' Peri Peri is a restaurant in Edenvale that serves both Portuguese and Mediterranean. The word and naming inspiration for the restaurant, 'Peri-Peri' (also known as the African Bird's Eye Chilli) is a natural preservative and grown in African soil.

Food:
On the food side, some mentionable O' Peri Peri's specialties: Bife a Portuguesa, Prego No Prato, Trinchado (300g rump cubes served with their delicious soft chips and a roll), and Entre Costos De Porco (pork ribs) to name just a few.

Service:
I can't complain as I have never actually sat in for a meal here.

Full review to follow..

Recommendation: O' Peri Peri is my go-to for well-priced takeaways when in the area. Where else in Johannesburg can you have Caldo Verde, a steak Prego, Pork roll or Chourico for under R50?
If like me, you'd prefer to just grab a takeaway here, I'd recommend phoning ahead to ensure that you don't have a lengthy waiting time. O' Peri Peri's takeaway section can get very busy during the evenings for good reason.

For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

Stopped off here one evening to get some take Aways. Ordered a full chicken peri peri, chips, salad and rolls as well as chicken burgers. Must say price are reasonable and the portions are huge, especially the large portion of chips. Thanks guys.
Ingrid
We have always enjoyed the food here but the last 3 times we ordered take out, it was really bad. I did call the restaurant and complain directly to them previously and they were apologetic. This time I called after placing my order via Mr D. to ensure we did not have the same issues. The chicken was mild (we ordered hot) with a very thin watery sauce that was flavourless. The ribs were overcooked and burnt and had the consistency of biltong! Last time we ever order from here. Food quality is probably the worst I've ever had.
Dr Charmaine Young
Really good value for money! Family run restaurant and portions are very generous. The ribs and chips are my favourite. Place is always pumping... even the takeaways.

ADDRESS : Harris Road and Wagenaar Street, Edenglen

MON - THU: 9:00 - 20:30
FRI - SAT: 9:00 - 21:00
SUN: CLOSED
PUB. HOLIDAYS: Call

Contact number: 011 452 7371
Website : http://operiperi.co.za/

DRINKS:
There are several variations of alcohol. They also offer hot beverages, teas, juices and cold drinks.

MAINS:
Best Deal - MEAL for ONE – Price R45.00 - Quarter chicken, chips or rice, Portuguese salad or hot vegetables served with a Portuguese roll. This is one of my most requested dishes on their menu. Served with a large portion of chips thats perfectly seasoned, the hot vegetables served are delicious, and fresh. This restaurant is not shy with their portions. They affordable, with quality and quantity. Therefore my above rating. Best Deal.

P.S The Peri Peri sauces are amazing

AMBIENCE:
Buzzing, energy as you walk in through the doors. Weekdays, Weekends are always busy. The secrets out!!

SEATING: Some of the inside walls and outside doors have an adhesive stickon Portuguese tile motif. (Pretty gold, white and blue) Reminds me of Morrocan and Turkish tile motifs. Bold cartoon images of chilli people( peri peri) fill up the walls as well. There is an outside seating area as well.

HANDS: Ive been to this restaurant several times but the service is of constant excellent. Although these employees are handling several people, they are energetic, attentive and polite.

VERDICT: Try this restaurant if you in the area. A must for the local community. Affordability, personalised service and hearty meals!!! With everyone trying to save a few rands; this restaurant makes it easy for you!!

My absolute favourite, go to, easy dining, awesome atmosphere, authentic, GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY restaurant ever. It's in the neighbourhood but the neighbourhood is also in it. Family owned. Came along generations. Really tasty really inexpensive. Even should you (has never happened) have a bad meal here, it wouldn't matter it is so inexpensive. It's the original Portuguese chicken restaurant but it has a bit of everything else.

Food - 2.0/5.0
Service - 3.0/5.0
Atmosphere - 2.5/5.0

Heard of good reviews but food quality was the downside. The chicken had a very strong vinegar favoring. The calamari was over cooked and rubbery.
Kev0's Food Adventures!
I've had takeaway chicken from O'Peri Peri, which family members have brought me, but I had never eaten at the restaurant before. Very relaxed chilled atmosphere, with the takeaway on one side and sit down on the other. Service was a bit slow but they were very busy. I had a chicken and calamari combo. The portion size was generous, chicken was delicious and calamari very tasty! Prices are reasonable too
Vicki
Food is amazing...
down to earth POrtuguese home style food and ambiance. Chicken And Rice/Chips extremely yummy. Chicken Livers and traditional sweet potatoe bread just as yummy. Just Love it. Only thing lacking is a kiddies play area.
Mark Lahner
Excellent night out. Service was good and food even better. They offer outstanding value for money. Will definitely be back with the family.

My first impression of this place is that looks like one of those local Portuguese restaurants. Service was good at first but slow as it got busy. Food wise, the starters was good but the mains was average. The beef espatada was worth mentioning as it was overcooked and chewy. Nonetheless, this is not really a bad place
Big Fat Italian
Nandos and all those other Portuguese wannabe restaurants can kiss my .......this is the real deal, home style cooking, great chicken just like Vovo makes it and all at a killer price makes this place a regular stop.
John Abrosie
Best Portuguese restaurant I've been to. The food and service was top class! The best Chicken I tasted, Giblets were top class, highly recommended....
Janis Godwin Spear
A decent place for chicken and chips with or without salad, yummy cashew salad, outstanding Gypsey pizza, excellent service, and those little round pizza loaves they have towards the end of the week are a winner.
Love it.
Dorea
service not to great stood around had to seat ourselves. Waitress has to be called all the time. Noisy and food average. Prices average. Not my cup of tea.
Greg Peake
I have never had a bad meal at O'Peri Peri and do go there often. Their specials are awesome as it gets me to try different dishes. A nice local spot to eat out and the owners are always there with a friendly greeting.

Ample seating, well themed (Portuguese) restaurant that looks like it get's busy on weekend evenings and reminds me of what the original Calisto's (in Turffontein) used to be. A generous menu and below market prices is a winning combination and a lot of people know that; all the locals rave about this place and it's not hard to see why. The only two issues are 1. Although the portion is generous, the chicken isn't what you build it up in your mind to be. It's good value but not the greatest tasting, genuine, authentic, Portuguese chicken. Some if it even tasted boiled and was masked by a hot sauce. 2. You wait FOREVER to get food, two 1/4 chicken meals took more than 45 mins from the point of order, so If you're extremely hungry you're going to have a problem. Overall - good (not great) peri-peri chicken at a good price. Not bad, but not great either.
Annie Hodes
Yummy hot chicken livers, chicken and veg nice, had to add more hot sauce (sauce on the table is great), very reasonably priced and lovely service from our waitress
Charmaine Young
Always a great place to eat! Real value for money and the food is amazing! The ribs are my all time favourite but I've tried everything on the menu and love it all.

O' Peri Peri is a nice spot for some delicious Portuguese cuisine. We had take out but the seated section isn't too bad (it does look a bit cramped but there's a nice atmosphere).

The prego rolls were delicious... The egg was cooked perfectly and the meat had an excellent flavour. My boyfriend ordered a mild and struggled a bit with the spiciness but I didn't mind the heat.

We also tried the beef trinchado which was a bit disappointing because the meat was super chewy. The sauce was delicious, but would have been so much better if the meat was nice and tender. Our orders also came with really nice chips, but unfortunately no rolls. It's a pity because I really love trinchado, but maybe next time I'll try the chicken.
Andy Shmeizer
I was really looking forward to eating at O'Peri Peri. What a disappointment. The grilled chicken was so dry and if you didn't use additional peri peri sauce it was exceptionally bland. The trinchado was tough. The only thing that was acceptable was the salad and the price of corkage. 2.

We are very happy to say that the food legend of Peri Main Str Rosettenville lives on at O Peri Peri in Edenvale. Well worth the visit will definitely be back. Well done on keeping your dad's recipes alive, they are legend.
Jonathan Starmer
Excellent restaurant and take-away popular with Edenvale locals. The best Beef Trinchado I have ever had. Service leaves one wanting but it is a very casual affair after all.
Jerusha
OMG! The best chicken I have ever had at a restaurant, it's not dry at all. I usually go for the quarter chicken and chips which always keeps me leaving happy but this time I tried the peri peri chicken strips and chips which had me smiling throughout dinner! Everything I have eaten here has always been amazing! The staff are super friendly and keep coming to check if everything is ok but not in the annoying way. This place is a must if you're ever in the east rand.
Sue Grant
One of my favourite places in the East Rand. A family owned authentic Portuguese joint. Chicken and chips, prawns, pork chops and everything you would expect on a Portuguese menu with a strange addition of pasta and pizza. I usually have a quarter chicken and salad for R40 and have never been disappointed . Last night I opted for the pork chops. They were okay. Someone else had the chicken kebabs which were drenched in sweet sugary sauce. And the prawn salad was different to our expectation. Nothing horribly wrong with the food. Would rather go back for my usual flame grilled chicken and salad though.
Luis
When in Edenvale, this is where I have lunch and some of my favourite Portuguese beer.
I often spend more than I intended, buying some portuguese products at the counter.
Their portuguese food is authentic and very well priced. If youre looking for good peri peri chicken. this is the place to be.
My only concern is the service can be a little slow sometimes.
Gary Greenberg
Visited here a few times in the past. It is quite deceiving from the outside. There is a good variety for vegetarians including a creamy oven baked macaroni and cheese. There is also a salad bar to choose from and as the name states peri peri meals such as chicken. The service is pretty good - a restaurant in the area worth visiting!
Alastair Waldeck
This is not a place I would have usually gone to due to its rather unassuming façade. However, I was asked to join a mate of mine here and was pleasantly surprised. This is a proper local joint and clearly has its regular clientele that frequent the place, but this is for a good reason. The food here seems consistently good and full of flavour, cooked in a proper home-style Portuguese fashion! So if that's your thing, give this place a try! It's not a place I will RUSH back to, but I will definitely give it a visit again in the future!
Pranel
They can never get your take away orders right! you ask for a Breast piece Chicken, they take it down, right on the box etc but when you get home its the wrong piece, wrong flavor, And it happens more then once, also twice the chicken was under cooked.
Epicurean Republic
Peri Peri has some of the best Portuguese fame grilled chicken you will ever find. The service is also always great and the owners / managers are always willing to assist you with any issue. I'd choose Peri Peri over any other Portuguese chicken restaurant.
Robbie Strobino
We came for the T - bone special which was sold out and as usual Chris did something special, an pizza oven roasted Rump, absolutely delicious. Thanks again guys

Definately recommend. Food is always fresh and tender. Very well spiced. Friendly service and didnt wait long to be served or even to receive our order.
Arne Swanepoel
The evening started off very promising. The focacia was amazing, dripping with delicious cheese and topped with my favourite type of feta, Danish. The prices are fantastically affordable. The waitress Nicola was helpfull, friendly and a scarce type of over all excellent waitress. Our drinks were never empty and plates did not linger dirty on the table. The main courses however were a bit disappointing. Both our dishes, the chicken giblets and the Trinchado's sauces were bland. Having had to resort to salt in order to get some taste is a pitty as this place has so much potential to top all other Edenvale restuarants. The meats were well cooked and tender. It has a great atmosphere inside as well as outside. We were recommended the Prego rolls, so we will try them next time.
Jeembabwe
Attentive staff, good food, reasonably priced. Be warned: the quarter chicken hot IS hot! But good. The chorizo starter I shared was also nice.
Blain Manickum
Being in search for the best Portuguese chicken this certainly comes close, hot, excellent value for money. We sat outside so service was a little slow however definitely worth a go.

I was at this restaurant recently and was very disappointed. My boyfriend and another guy at our table ordered the 'hot' peri-peri chicken dish (hoping it would be nice and spicy) and it was far from peri-peri. I cannot take any form of spicy food and I tasted a piece of his chicken and happily ate it, it tasted lemon and herb to me. Therefore, they opted to pour a generous amount of that oily spicy sauce that sits on the tables, onto their food.
And then not to mention my boyfriend was ill the entire night after his meal.
I ordered the main calamari dish, which came with about 6-7 calamari tubes on the plate and for R80 you would expect a slight amount more than that given on the plate. (Knowing that calamari is an expensive dish - 6/7 pieces is not classified a main dish to me.)
To add, it came ice cold to the table and I had to send it back to re heat.
I'm rating this place 2 as my vegetables and salad were good, and the Prego roll that the other lady at our table ate, was apparently good as well.
Not so sure I will be returning to this place any time soon.
Pakman
Slow to acknowledge because we were outside. Eventually got good service at the table, but they forgot to log my takeaway burger. Could have been better.
Clare Appleyard
Great casual lunch or dinner spot. Laid back with no frills, expect tasty Portuguese food at no frills prices. Prego rolls are always a winner, and the chicken and ribs combo is big enough for left-overs the next day. Service nothing exceptional, but now you know that 😉
Louis De Bruyn
What was Edenvale even like before these guys! Peri Peri is great and it comes as no surprise that they are always busy. Surely those of us living in the area would have seen this little restaurant in Harris Road. Well, they have expanded recently and its not so little anymore, but if at all possible, it has become an even better experience eating or drinking there.

Peri Peri is essentially an Portuguese restaurant but they have all kinds of cuisine there, even pasta. I can only vouch for the chicken though, that is all I ever eat there. I can tell you though that by glancing over to other tables, all I see is happy faces and good food. No matter what you order!

Peri Peri is also extremely pocket friendly and they run specials from Monday to Saturday. Some of the specials does not appear on the menu so every week there is something new to try. If you give them your phone number, they text you the weekly Specials every Monday. Otherwise like them on Facebook to not miss out.

The staff is very helpful and friendly although sometimes it does take long between drinks orders. That is to be expected though because it's always busy there! Which is testament to the fact that this is a fantastic restaurant and certainly the jewel in Edenvales crown!

Food: 8/10
We shared a starter portion of Giblets which were very tasty and a good portion, but were served a bit cold. For mains we ordered their special of the day, grilled pork chops with a side of grilled veggies (carrots, spinach, baby marrow and green beans). It was well prepared and tasted great but a bit more care could have been given to the presentation of the plate as it looked a bit slap dash.
Service: 10/10
Fantastic service as always. They're definitely on top of their patrons....maybe even a bit too much :)
Ambience: 7/10
They have revamped the place recently to make it bigger and more comfortable, but somehow the decor or colour scheme does give it a bit of a take-away vibe.
VFM: 10/10
The food here is always very well-prices and great Value For Money. It's definitely a restaurant you can count on for good food and suitable portions, without leaving a hole in the wallet.
Bianca Sue Pohlmann
When these guys were in Main Street, Rosettenville, they were great... Now they are even better. Their chicken is a strong contender for top chicken on my charts.
Tamlin Son
Had the Prego roll and found it to be way too salty. My father had the kingklip- it was a slightly over cooked but still very delicious. Staff was seemed friendly.
Jason Michael Scruton
Nice cheap family restaurant that serves Portuguese comfort food i would say. Only reason i down voted it , is because the quality and quantity of the food varies and can get loud
Wendy Van Eyssen
We just love the place. The food is good, the atmosphere and service is great. Thursday and Friday nights are really popular, so book if you decide to eat in the restaurant.
Rae Nel
Delicious Pregos and Chicken! Does get busy but the wait is well worth it! Only negative, sometimes the mild can be more hot or nothing at all!
El Broide
This place is a hidden gem. While their seafood is questionable, they have the best pregos in town. They have also just renovated and have added some Italian flavor to their menu. A fantastic place.
Nadene Duvenhage
Love the food, from any take-away item, sit down meal & anything in-between, everything you order you will enjoy ? recommended for the whole family
Kelly Ansara
This has to be the best thing that happened to Edenvale! While they boast a great Portuguese chicken, I have to say it's the ribs that steal my heart. Service is great, food cheap. YES. YES. YES!
Paulo Gaspar
Had been meaning to visit this restaurant for a while now as I had heard some good reports, unfortunately I was a tad disappointed and can only describe it as a mediocre Portuguese diner. Unfortunately the waitress seemed a little inexperienced and we waited for our drinks for over 20 mins and food took about 45 mins. I had a Portuguese steak and cant say it was bad, but wont rave about it either. I believe their chicken is very good, so will give them a second chance and give that a try.
The place was quite busy which made the ambience of a Portuguese diner seem authentic.
Jose De Carvalho
Well well well... This might be the little Portugal on the East Rand. P and I both had work to do this evening and had little time to make dinner, I remembered driving pace Peri Peri a few times and thought that I should give it a try. Today was the day.

As I was there earlier in the day I opted for a prego roll to hit that hunger spot. Being Portuguese I can tell you that I know and understand Portuguese cuisine and they hit the nail on the head. The beef was soft and had the right amount of spice, garlic, peri peri stuck between a soft Portuguese roll. It must be in the top 5 pregos i have tried on the east rand.

for the month of March they had a family special which consisted of a whole grilled chicken with a large pack of chips (which can be swopped for veges or rice) salads and 4 Portuguese rolls for R89. The chicken comes in plan, mild, spicy and extra spicy and the mild is already spicy and P had her nose running and me in stitches. Her mum loved the food and gave her stamp of approval.
I checked their menu and they offer a variety of food for the not so hungry to the starving. They have authentic dishes from Prawn rissoles to the famous grilled Portuguese sausage called chouriço.
They offer weekly specials which are sent via text messages to clients. The restaurant has their own per peri sauce which apparently is amazing... that I am yet to try. you know it's a good sauce when it separates and you have to shake it to thicken.
This is certainly a hidden gem on the east rand. Their hours are strange, but I suppose as it borders on an industrial area there are municipal restrictions. But nevertheless, this place is certainly a good place to grab a bite to eat or you want to grab grub for the family. Give it a Try, you won't be sorry
Marc Forrest
This place is the business. Rather unassuming from the outside but the food is absolutely awesome. Don't forget to buy a bottle (or 3) of their famous peri peri sauce on the way out. Should keep you entertained for days ?
Maximillian Bajkay
A great place for a work lunch.
Has a wide variety on the menu which is pleasant to see and the revamp has made the place looks far more appetizing and it's possible to have a 'healthy' meal with chicken Peri peri and veg.
