I just did another interesting taste test between 2 Butter Chicken Curries made at 2 of East London's leading curry shops (and both of them in Berea): Red Chillies in Chamerlain Road and Irana in Glaston Street. Both businesses are clean and presentable, both with friendly and professional staff and both of them give very good service. I had to compare apples with apples, so I decided on a regular sized Butter Chicken Currie with rice, to use as a common denominator. You will see in my picture that Red Chillies gives you more curry than Irana, as their curry take away container is bigger that Irana's, while the size of the rice is almost the same. Irana served a mixture of white and yellow rice and Red Chillies served white rice. The price at Irana was R109, while Red Chillies charged R90. Now for the most important part, THE CURRY COMPARISON: Irana's Butter Chicken Curry was yellowish in colour, the chicken breast was cut into larger cubes and it was dryer than that of Red Chillies. Still, the spices used was flavourful and delicious. The Butter Chicken Curry from Red Chillies was more orangy in colour, the chicken breast was cut into smaller cubes and the curry had a lot more gravy. It had a distinctly different and slightly sweeter taste that that of Irana, but also had a delicious blend of spices and lovely flavours. Both of these establishments serve a good quality and tasty Butter Chicken Curry and are well worth a visit. Well done guys!ππππ» I can't wait to compare both of your Beef Curries!ππ€€
A tiny restaurant tucked away in little corner β¦ this place has wonderful, delicious Indian food. The decor is simple and elegant. We tried the prawn tempura and the curries β¦ prawn curry as well as the lamb curry. Each cooked to perfection β¦ tasty. And you must have the garlic butter naans. They melt in your mouth. Wish we were living here in East London β¦ we would be back again and again.
Best Indian food in EL. I love their butter chicken and mutton curry π€€π€€
I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. The LAMB MADRAS (HOT) is unforgettable. Not to be missed. Ravin and his wife Tilly are warm and welcoming and my whole evening was wonderful.
P.S.:
So wonderful, in fact, that I went there a second time two days later, also for dinner. Again, a superb meal of LAMB MADRAS (yes, HOT) which makes me long to return to East London.
My thanks and best wishes to Ravin and Tilly. Meeting them both and the experience of their great hospitality, was fabulous.
Best Roti in South Africa , great service and exceptional family restaurant π§‘π§‘
Irana has THE BEST curry in East London. Wonderful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Small warm and cosy restaurant- seems like a family business. Very good service. The paratha a must try. The curries was average and the prawn curry is overpriced for the amount that is served.
Irana is my lunch spot whenever I'm in East London, great tasty Indian cuisine. Friendly service and great atmosphere.
Great food ,great service friendly staff makes you feel home
It was absolutely lovely and we enjoyed the meal.
We had a variety of bunny chows and curries here and they were delicious!
Good food, kind of home cooked with a Mauritian flare. A bit on the expensive side, but good for once in a while. The owners are kind and friendly.
I am from Pretoria and in East London on business. I always look for descent Indian Restaurants as I am crazy about Indian foods. I searched the internet and saw Irana and called them to make a reservation. Arriving there the reception by 3 people was very friendly and I felt extremely comfortable. They are the, Papa, Mama and daughter. Now for the food and beliefe me, I can be a very bad critic. What I ate was a starter and mains. It was WOW and AWSOME. I will HIGHLY recommend that curry lovers go there and that non spicy lovers also go there and put the heavenly Butter Chicken in there mouths. I thank you for spoiling me with Amazing Indian Delicious Delight. I WILL BE BACK.

Absolutely mouth-watering food. Definitely worth the price. Super friendly staff. The menu could use a few more items but all in all 10/10 would recommend.
Not a fancy place to eat, but the service and the food made up for it. Very attentive, owner cooked, authentic home made deliciousness.
Great curries that I have enjoyed on various occasions. Loved the new addition to the menu, Ramen ftw. Itadakimasu
Best Indian restaurant you can ever get love there good Exspecially there bunny chows they just yummy all there flavors of there food is melt in your mouth and that's what I love would recommend them to anyone any day
Always enjoy the food here. Delicious. Never disappoints.
I enjoyed the meal. Food was good and not overly spicy - Had the Butter Chicken, Lamb Gosht and Chicken + Prawn Curry - which I felt was the best one.
The place is cozy and there was parking place. I was happy with the service and even the owner had a chat with us. Seems very personable.
I do wish the portion sizes were a bit bigger and a slightly bigger menu. I'd really love to see some items like Laccha paratas and raita and perhaps indian grill items. East London desperately needs more variety (^_^).
