Review Sanook Cafe - East London

Janine Herselman
I am awaiting a response from the owner via email regarding details of our experience yesterday. Update: I had a call from Alex and what a lovely human. You have handled yourself impeccably in response to my email. Mistakes happen but how it's managed is what will get me to go back or not. I highly recommend Sanook Cafe and have upgraded them to 5 star. Thank you Alex for your professional approach.

Sanook Cafe is centrally located in Berea. Perfect for work lunches or evenings out for dinner. The menu is amazing and there is no meal that ever disappoints. The staff are so friendly and professional.

Excellent experience overall - we didn’t book but the team were very accommodating and happily found us a table. The food was amazing (we had Buddha bowls) and the service was great. This wasn’t our first visit but every visit has been the same - excellent food and excellent service. One note to be aware of - the restaurant can be quite loud so if you are going with someone who is hard of hearing, maybe request a table outside or away from the entrance to the kitchen.

An unexpected (lunch)restaurant with European standards. A fancy and healthy menu with lots of yogurt and poke bowls. Leaving this place with a well filled and healthy feeling!

One of the best restaurants in town!

Sensational burger, great mince grind and cooked to perfection. Smokey flavour, juicy and ticked all my boxes. One of the best I have ever had. Can't wait to come back. Topped off with salted caramel cheesecake bit heavy but very delicious

Had the Big in Japan pizza. Probably the best pizza I've ever had! Service is amazing, atmosphere is lovely, just an all 'round great experience. Highly recommend 👌

Absolute gem of a place hidden a way in Berea, lovely tree-lined undercover entrance, smell of pizza and other lovely food smells as you enter, a bustling vibe, very attentative and welcoming staff and always obliging to ammend any errors with your food, definitely one if the best in East London and so well run by the managers especially Sheira deserves a mention as probably one of the best restaurants manager I have ever come across, if you haven't visited Sanook your missing out on a great dining experience.

This place was wonderful. Ludwe just pulled vibes on vibes with his service. The food was excellent, well priced and worth the wait. I had a Chardonnay Pinot Noir, which was beautiful. So, if you fancy a glass of white with a tinge of vibe, that's such a great choice. This gem in Berea is such a must visit

This spot offers incredible food and service that you find your self not wanting to leave. The food is fresh and colorful. The pizza's are made daily and I have never had a bad experience here. The staff are very friendly and are always happy to stop and chat.

Nice ambience and friendly staff. Though the burger falls short of my expectation but I think its cos of what I ordered... The waiters were very friendly and professional but I think it will be much better if a waiter is assigned to a certain number of customers at a time. The idea of being served by random waiter is not nice; It causes delay and also confusion on whom to tip... Overall its a nice place and will love to visit again for me to give a final verdict on their burger...

It is one of our favorite restaurants in East London. Some of the waiters recognize us now, and it's always such a great experience for our family to visit Sanook

The food was good, I had the Al Paccino burger. The onions were sautéed and not caramelised as stated on the menu. It would have been excellent if it was. Still tasty. Zucchini fries have a lot of dough and not a lot of zucchini - also tasty, but not ideal when trying to opt for lower carb options.

Good food, great atmosphere but unfortunately the service was not. We waited a long time to place our order and then over an hour to get our meal – we arrived 6.25pm and food arrived 7.50pm and only after we had finally enquired about it. I was with my elderly parents so this was not great, but we really enjoyed the meal once it finally arrived

I have been at Sanook at The Crossing in Beacon Bay as well as the one in Chamberlain Road Berea and both of them are just absolutely awesome and amazing with their service, food and location Well, after the morning I had on Thursday, 05th July, Sanook Berea was just the answer for lunch We just chilled in a very relaxing atmosphere and very friendly staff The staff is on the ball ....... The food was just perfect ...... as usual My steak was done perfection ...... Our plates were stack with food and took a doggy bag home ...... to much food to manage ..... And what a bargain ! ..... 2 meals at the reasonable price of one Even Shira, the Manageress came around to see if everything is fine and was nice to see each other in a long time, after being neighbours Thanks for your good service Sanook You rock guys

What an awesome experience! The food was great and the ambiance was awesome! The waiter was on top form ... he knew all the specials and we never had to look for him. I will definitely go back when I next visit East London. Think it would be great if they can expand to Cape Town area ... Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Wow. I must have driven past this unpretentious spot countless times. Reminds me a lot of Side Bar in Florida Rd Dbn, but better. Food, service, ambience all excellent but understated. If you're in Slummies, go there.

Whenever I come to East London it's must visit place for me. Ambiance is fantastic... Staff is friendly and manager at times help us to make to order pizza and burger as we come from India where we mostly prefer veg food. I visited both locations of East London and both have there own speciality... Will try to go one more time before I return back to India

I was there yesterday and my first time. Staff was very friendly. My pizza was delicious. We were a group of 5. Gift was our waiter. He was friendly but very slow. We had to repeat our requests several times. I ordered a Brutal Fruit strawberry...he gave me Strawberry juice which irritated me. After telling him this, he didn't apologize but just said it was a mix up. My friend ordered a certain type of wine, he gave her a different one and insisted it was the one to which my friend let it go. My friend ordered something that she had eaten at the Beacon Bay one, he said its not on the menu but its on the system, he didn't tell her you guys don't make pasta. She was unhappy. Our experience there was not the best. Maybe the Beacon Bay one will be better. I'll try there!
