Review Annapurna - Durbanville

Malcolm Wright
Very nice place. The owner was very involved and served us the whole night. Very friendly. We were a table of 13 and we had a set menu with the mince, chicken and, cheese and corn samosas for starters. We then had the lamb curry and butter chicken with naan bread and white rice for mains. I have had better samosas but they were full and light and crispy with some good flavour. I enjoyed the mains, not spicy at all, but we asked for mild... Just in case 😉. Some of the lamb pieces were a bit tough but mostly soft and tasty. Butter chicken was good and the naan bread was very yummy. The atmosphere was very cosy and welcoming. It is quite a small restaurant so book in advance. I would recommend going for the regular menu, but definitely worth the visit. I felt that it was a bit expensive for what we got. Very enjoyable though.

Excellent Indian food! A bit pricey, but worth it. Situated inside a little shopping precinct. Very friendly service. The food tastes out if this world. Seems to be very popular since there were constantly people ciming and going. Worth a visit.

I found the service excellent but was a bit disappointed with the lamb. Although very tasty it was a little tough. I will definitely recommend and will also go there again as I am sure this was just a once off

Dinner tonight. I really wanted to give the experience a 2 star, reason being we waited very very long for everything starter came 45mins after ordered, mains an hour plus. Drinks, ice, doggy bags, everything took long despite it being a tiny venue, seating less than 50. Our appetites almost lost. People getting fidgety with hunger in the eyes conversation lulled. Price heavy in relation to small portions And I hate waiting....

But, the food was phenomenal, we had the onion starter and meat platter as a first course. Mains were chicken korma, mushroom curry, prawn and chicken Gao, lamb vindaloo, beef madras. Every person agreed it was amazing.

And the manager/owner... Gosh he is wonderful, passionate about the food, welcoming, friendly, eager to make ur dinning good.

So yeah, I'd be back but maybe on a Monday or Tuesday instead of a busy Friday

Decided to take my parents for dinner.
Their magical hospitality started from the moment I called to make a reservation. We arrived and were greeted by the owner Ricky who also personally seated us and said he will give us a few minutes to settle in. We decided to select three main meals,
chicken beryani, butter chicken and Lamb Rogen Josh. Both the Butter Chicken and Chicken Beryani were the best I have ever eaten and I will be back.
The Paratha and Butter Naan were the perfect match

As usual an excellent meal. The ambiance is perfect with Ricky being a perfect host.

once you have experienced Ricky’s curry nothing can compare. By far our favorite place to eat out.

Good food, good service! Will definitely return for more! The masala fried fish starter and samoosas is a must! Lamb shanks cooked to perfection!

Ricky the owner makes you feel welcomed as soon as you step into the restaurant. You come here to relax and have delicious Indian food.

We shared mince samoosas and Masala fried fish for starters.. Wow this these were amazing.. Couldn't get many photos as we all gobbled these up.

I usually go for a butter chicken or Korma when I have Indian food, so thought I would try something different and had a Lamb Goa, it's a coconut milk based curry. It really was delicious, if you looking for a not spicy cream curry this is for you.
My mom had the butter chicken which she loved, my gran had a fish curry-it was really tasty. I might try a fish curry next time too.
My dad had a Lamb Shank with a hot curry sauce.

Honestly all amazing and tasty, can't wait to go back and try his other dishes.

Service: An owner managed restaurant - excellent service, very welcoming, and genuine

Food: Chicken Korma was absolutely divine and my mum had a lamb dish which was equally as amazing

Ambience: Cosy, no noise, would be ideal for a date night

Pricing: Extremely reasonable, dishes are of a perfect size as the cuisine is quite rich with all the lovely spices and warmth from the dishes

Would I come back?: DEFINITELY!

Thank you Ricky for a wonderful dining experience, you were a wonderful host with such compassion about your restaurant and such great interest in your fellow diners!

Great spot in heritage square that sells the most divine tikka chicken pieces and samoosas. Prices are reasonable and service is top notch. Dying to try out the curries soon.

I came to this location actually to try out the fresh pastries next door but found Annapurna and thought of trying out Indian food. I asked for a glass of white house wine. And to go with it some Masala fish. The wine was nice but the fish's batter was poorly prepared and was bland in fact. The green chutney which I got along with the fish was bad so I asked for some other chutney and got the tamarind chutney which was good. Then I ordered for a chicken briyani and found the rice to be slightly uncooked as it seems they took the rice off quickly to put on the dum. So the taste was good enough but the rice was crispy. The owner provided us with some nice company though. I explained him about the briyani and all. He took feedback too. Must go back once again to get some really nice briyani this time with the rice tender.

Always a pleasure coming here, I especially love it when an owner really tries to connect with his customers.

This restaurant is nicely tucked away from the busy and noisy places around it. Great intimate setting which is perfect for date night.

Their naan bread is some of the best that I have ever had!

What a lovely evening and great restaurant! We had a nice chat with the friendly owner, great service and the best and most flavourful meal. Such a great atmosphere and great food! 10 stars!!

Annapurna might not be the best Indian spot in Cape Town, but it does make some tasty food.

Their butter chicken is really good as is the Naan bread.

It's a great midweek, chilled dinner. Intimate setting and Rickie, the owner, made us feel really welcome.

Saw at least 3 couples come in for take-aways while we ate, so they are doing something right!

The question you always ask is, would you visit again? I'll definitely be back.
Sonja Myburgh
What an amazing experience! Thank you Ricky for guiding us through the menu and being the most excellent host. The food was so flavourful and i wish my belly was a bottomless pit so i can stuff it with all the dishes on the menu. We look forward to going back and even getting regular take-aways for movie nights!!

Had a fantastic dinner at this hidden gem in Heritage Square. Decor traditionally Indian, lovely ambiance and brilliant service by hands on owner and staff. Butter chicken was delicious, as was the chicken tikka masala and lamb bhuna ghost, packed with authentic flavours. Will definitely be back soon - pity only heard about this branch recently by word of mouth because it's hidden in the shopping centre, not visible from street. Highly recommended!

We went there to try their food etc., as I've only been to Moksh before (in Durbs).
The prices are very similar to Moksh. The menu was a bit difficult to read, but after a while you get the hang of it.
The service was very friendly, but the food took a bit longer than expected.
All good, they also do takeaways.
Will go there again.
Paul Pirie
We went to Annapurna after passing it on our way to a meeting one day. We love Indian food and have been impressed with the likes of Moksh, however I was let down this time. Starters were very small and pricey. Tikka was very dry, and the Kadhai a little bland. Vindaloo was admittedly very good and one of our guests said the butter chicken was good. Naan breads were a decent size but again a little bland. We will give it another try but not our first choice Indian in the area. There will be another opening in cape gate soon so the competition will only increase.

Best owner-run restaurant I've ever been to. And best butter chicken EVURRR.
The amazing food and outstanding service is love made visible. And edible.

Annapurna has been my favourite Indian restaurant for a long time now. It's fantastic to see the business expanding, and new branches popping up around the Northern Suburbs. Some may feel that the general ambiance is lacking, but I enjoy the minimalism and homely atmosphere. The curries are outstanding--definitely the most tasty I have encountered. I recommend the Goa Lamb, made with a creamy coconut and tamarind sauce. If you like to share, it is complemented beautifully by a hot Vindaloo. The only areas for improvement, for me, are the prices and the restaurant locations. Definitely worth visiting though.

Lovely dinner! Fantastic food and great service! We had starters, mains and deserts and all three were delicious. The restaurant is owner managed and they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
